Day 25: Your voice
Rated Teen, Jaxlim/Leshwi, post-RoW, Rhythm of War spoilers Cross posted on ao3
As Jaxlim finished her dinner alone in her new hut, a knock sounded behind her. She hummed to Amusement as she stood, then opened it to find the enormous Fused, Leshwi, at her door. A former god, she was terrifying simply by her existence. However, weeks of association had taught Jaxlim differently. She seemed to truly care about the listeners, and wished to respect and learn their traditions. And by abandoning the gods, she had already started learning the crushing loss, sacrifice, and freedom that defined being a listener.
“Do you want to hear it again?” Jaxlim asked her.
Leshwi hummed to Supplication. “I want to hear it until I know it by heart,” she answered. “Please, sing me again the Song of Histories.”
“All right, give me a measure of Peace,” Jaxlim said. She cleaned up, humming to Appreciation that she was once again capable of even such simple tasks, and her spren pulsed happily along with the rhythm, providing notes of Joy in bursts of harmony.
Leshwi was too large to join her inside comfortably, so she put on a shawl and went outside, where Leshwi had already started a songfire.
Jaxlim sat down at her usual seat and examined the fire. It was well crafted, set to burn in about the length of three songs. Leshwi sat close beside her.
“Is there anything I could do to improve the fire?” she asked to Supplication.
“Nothing, Leshwi, it’s very good,” Jaxlim said to Peace. Leshwi had been picking up the elements of the listener culture quickly and efficiently. Sometimes the thought brought Jaxlim great terror, and sometimes it brought her great joy. Today had been a stormless day, and tonight the sky was clear and filled with sparkling stars; Jaxlim’s heart was at peace. “You do not have to speak to Supplication with me, Leshwi. You are more than a student to me.”
Leshwi’s voice became attuned to Pleading. “I am used to speaking to Subservience to those I follow. Even Supplication feels too soft at times. I wish to eliminate the need to be given orders, but I wonder if it’s impossible for me to change.”
“You wish me to give you orders?” Jaxlim asked to Consideration. Leshwi had spoken about her life as part of the Fused army, and it had given Jaxlim nightmares, yet still she felt her imagination was a sorry replication of the horrors Leshwi had perpetrated and experienced.
“In a way,” Leshwi said. “There is no one else with the power you wield, and you are generous with it. I wish to have that kind of honour.”
Jaxlim leaned back to see Leshwi’s face towering above her, even sitting. “Are you saying you look up to me?”
They hummed Amusement together. “See, that is your power,” Leshwi said to Awe, and reached out to touch Jaxlim’s shoulder. “For too long I have followed orders, and given orders in turn. I find inspiration with you. You offer me freedom to choose my path. I find more and more, that I wish to have your power. The power to inspire others. Not to dictate paths but to offer them.”
“And that is why you wish to learn our songs and histories?” Jaxlim asked to Curiosity.
Leshwi hummed agreement.
"Very well." She started slowly, warming up her voice as she went, singing the Song of Histories in its entirety, perfectly. It was a joy to be able to pass on the knowledge just as it had been taught to her. Another gift from her spren.
When she was done, Jaxlim stared into the fire, humming Consideration as she thought about Leshwi's plea. How long had it been since Leshwi had been taught a new skill? Was it the teacher-student relationship she missed, or the companionship of a friend? For a while, she sat in thought, wondering how she could encourage her.
“Leshwi, do you know the Song of Growth?”
The large femalen hummed no.
Jaxlim got up. “Come with me, then. I have a gift for you.”
She checked the fire to make sure it was stable. She walked to her hut to grab a cut gem, aflame with Stormlight, and a small drum. Then, pulling her shawl tighter around her, she walked Leshwi a few minutes away into the deep night until she found a wild rockbud. She knelt in front of it, and gestured for Leshwi to do the same.
“I would like to teach you something new. This is how we help things grow.” Jaxlim wondered if the knowledge might feel beneath Leshwi’s pride, but she knelt down on the stone beside her without complaint. Jaxlim looked up to see Leshwi’s eyes glittering with interest, and her body seemed to vibrate to Appreciation. She attuned Appreciation herself, grateful that she had her in her life. With her oncemate gone, Eshonai dead, and Venli often away, it could be lonely, especially at night. Sometimes she wondered whether Leshwi sought her out because she knew of Jaxlim’s loneliness, or whether she felt lonely at night, too.
She placed the gem at the base of the rockbud, took a breath of bracing night air, then started to drum. She knew she could use Stormlight to ward off the cold, but she wanted to use it for her demonstration. Leshwi must have seen her shiver, because she moved closer, then held Jaxlim tight against her side.
The rhythm did its work, attracting one green mote, then another. Leshwi’s voice followed the beat of the rhythm, and Jaxlim joined her, putting down the drum. Now that lifespren were bobbing around the rockbud, Jaxlim intensified the beats of her voice. The rockbud started to glow faintly, and she could hear pops and creaks as vines started to grow and plump, reaching upwards as if they had found rain.
Pressed against Leshwi’s warmth, sharing with her the Song of Growth, Jaxlim suddenly felt a pull deep inside, one she hadn’t felt in a long time. Perhaps it was her proximity to lifespren, or the fact that she had accidentally breathed in some Stormlight, but she felt vital in that moment. She felt more alive, like she was growing, too. A few years ago she’d have thought it impossible that she could feel this way again.
But here was a former enemy looking at her like she was the key to her hope. Holding her close, cherishing her.
“I am jealous of the rockbud,” Leshwi sang to Growth. “I wish to change, too. If only I could take the lifespren into my gemheart.”
Jaxlim attuned Amusement. “You’ve heard the Song of Listing. Can you remember what form a lifespren grants?”
“Mateform,” Leshwi said to Longing. She continued: “Mateform meek, for love to share Given to life, it brings us joy. To find this form, one must care. True empathy, one must employ. Jaxlim, I wish for that joy. I wish to show you I care for your people. For you.”
Jaxlim’s Rhythms faltered. “Surely I’m too old for you to even consider–”
Now Leshwi hummed Amusement. “I am thousands of years old. If anything, you are too young for me.”
There was nothing Jaxlim could say to argue with that, so she simply joined her in Amusement, and enjoyed the feeling of being alive, and aware, and warm, and loved.

Benefits of Regular Reflexology Sessions: A Comprehensive Overview
The ancient art of reflexology is second to none in a fast-paced world where stress and tension seem omnipresent. The holistic treatment offers a range of benefits that knit through the physical, mental, and emotional realms through specific pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, and ears. This comprehensive outline unveils the unique benefits awaiting those who embark on a journey of regular reflexology massage sessions.
1. Embarking on Stress-Free Sojourns:
At the heart of reflexology lies its incredible ability to usher individuals into relaxation and serenity. This technique articulates with the nervous system by rigorously targeting reflex points, releasing the grip of stress.
The healing touch comforts the mind and presents a sense of calm that trickles through the entire being, offering a reprieve from the daily hustle.
Tumblr media
2. The Benefits of Circulation:
Reflexology massage orchestrates the process of blood circulation, inviting improved blood flow to grace every nook and cranny of the body. As trained hands apply force to reflex points, blood vessels gracefully expand, improving the delivery of vital nutrients and oxygen.
It promotes cardiovascular health and serves as a symphony for cellular well-being, promoting an internal harmony that resonates with vitality.
3. Liberation from the Shackles of Pain:
For those ensnared by the clutches of chronic pain, reflexology emerges as a liberating force. The strategic pressure applied to reflex points becomes a beacon of relief, triggering the body's natural painkillers—endorphins.
Migraines, back pain, and arthritis find solace in the rhythmic dance of reflexology, offering a path towards a life less encumbered by discomfort.
4. Fortifying the Citadel of Immunity:
Reflexology massage stands as a stalwart guardian of immune function. This practice fortifies the body's defences against invaders by invigorating the lymphatic system through targeted stimulation.
Regular sessions become a shield, empowering individuals to ward off illnesses and infections, a testament to the preventive prowess embedded in the very essence of reflexology.
5. Qi Symphony: Harmonizing Energy:
The therapy orchestrates a symphony of Qi, the vital life force, by drawing inspiration from Chinese medicine. Balance is restored by unblocking energy pathways, enhancing energy levels and banishing the spectre of fatigue. In this harmonious dance, reflexology emerges as a custodian of equilibrium, encouraging a vigour-filled life.
6. Sweet Slumbers, Deep and Restful :
As the world grapples with sleep-related challenges, reflexology massage emerges as a gentle lullaby for those seeking restful nights. The relaxation induced by targeted pressure acts as a natural sedative, guiding individuals into a realm of serene sleep.
Insomnia and sleep disorders find a compassionate companion in reflexology, offering a non-invasive and drug-free alternative for those yearning for peaceful slumbers.
7. Clarity's Embrace: Mental Focus:
Amidst the chaos of modern existence, reflexology massage becomes a haven for mental clarity and focus. This ancient practice becomes a conduit for improved concentration by dismantling stress and ushering in relaxation.
Mental fatigue dissipates, anxiety reprises, and a clear path opens for those seeking sharper focus, making reflexology a sanctuary for the wandering mind.
Frequency of Reflexology:
Reflexology massage frequency differs based on personal needs and health goals. Many people profit from routine sessions scheduled once a week or bi-weekly. For those addressing specific issues, more frequent sessions may be suggested initially, gradually tapering off as improvements occur.
Consistency plays a crucial role in maximising the therapeutic effects of reflexology, promoting general well-being and stress relief. It's advisable to consult with a certified reflexologist to decide a suitable frequency tailored to unique health conditions and preferences.
Regular reflexology sessions emerge as a brushstroke of holistic rejuvenation in the grand tapestry of well-being. From stress-free benefits to improved blood circulation, each session becomes a unique melody, weaving balance and vitality. Embark on this journey, and let the ancient art of reflexology guide you to a revitalised and harmonious life. Contact New Begonia Therapy for professional reflexology massage services.

Embracing Greens and Grains: Your Guide to a Vibrant Gluten-Free Vegetarian Diet
Tumblr media
Imagine a world where lush, gluten-free landscapes meet the vibrant gardens of vegetarian delights. This is the fertile ground your journey begins – embarking on a gluten-free vegetarian diet rich in flavor, nourishment, and the freedom to explore a universe of delicious possibilities. Whether you're motivated by celiac disease, personal health goals, or simply a love for plant-powered goodness, this guide will equip you with the tools and inspiration to navigate this exciting path with confidence.
Unveiling the Harmony of Gluten-Free and Vegetarian:
Combining a gluten-free diet with vegetarianism isn't just about eliminating options, it's about amplifying and embracing a new level of culinary creativity. Forget bland restrictions and cardboard substitutes. This journey welcomes an abundance of naturally gluten-free grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables, ready to be transformed into nourishing and soul-satisfying dishes.
Building Your Gluten-Free Vegetarian Pantry:
Let's transform your pantry into a haven of plant-powered potential:
Grains galore: Embrace quinoa, brown rice, buckwheat, millet, and amaranth as your new carbohydrate champions. These naturally gluten-free grains offer complex carbohydrates, essential nutrients, and endless culinary possibilities.
Legume love: Beans, lentils, chickpeas, and tofu become protein and fiber superstars. Experiment with lentil soups, chickpea curries, tofu scramble, and bean burgers – the possibilities are endless!
Veggie vibrance: Fill your refrigerator with a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. They burst with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, forming the foundation of your healthy and delicious meals.
Nuts and seeds: Sprinkle chia seeds on your smoothies, snack on almonds, or create creamy cashew cheese. These nutritional powerhouses offer healthy fats, protein, and fiber, elevating your dishes to new heights.
Healthy fats: Embrace heart-healthy options like avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, and flaxseeds. They enhance flavor, promote satiety, and contribute to overall well-being.
The Comprehensive Gluten-free Diet Plan
Label Savvy and Kitchen Confidence:
Remember, navigating a gluten-free vegetarian diet requires vigilance:
Scrutinize labels: Be alert for hidden gluten in sauces, dressings, processed foods, and even some seemingly safe items like soy sauce. Look for certified gluten-free products for added peace of mind.
Embrace kitchen confidence: Experiment with spices, herbs, and bold flavors to transform your dishes. Learn to cook grains, legumes, and vegetables in exciting ways, and master the art of gluten-free baking with healthy alternatives.
Planning your meals: Weekly meal planning prevents impulsive choices and ensures you have healthy options readily available. Get creative with leftovers, pack nutritious snacks for on-the-go convenience, and don't hesitate to modify recipes to suit your preferences.
Sample Gluten-Free Vegetarian Meal Plan:
Breakfast: Quinoa bowl with berries, nuts, and chia seeds
Lunch: Lentil soup with whole-wheat (gluten-free option) bread and a side salad
Dinner: Tofu stir-fry with brown rice and vegetables
Snacks: Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, hummus with gluten-free crackers, yogurt with berries
Beyond the Plate: Nurturing Body and Mind:
Remember, a holistic approach is key to thriving on your gluten-free vegetarian journey:
Stay hydrated: Water is essential for optimal health. Aim for eight glasses daily to keep your body functioning at its best.
Move your body: Regular physical activity is crucial for overall well-being. Find activities you enjoy, like walking, running, yoga, or swimming, and aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.
Manage stress: Chronic stress can impact your health in various ways. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or spending time in nature to manage stress effectively.
Seek support: Connect with other people on the gluten-free vegetarian journey. Online communities and support groups can provide encouragement, tips, and a sense of belonging.
Celebrating Every Bite, Every Milestone:
Embrace the joy of discovery as you explore new flavors, textures, and culinary horizons. Celebrate non-scale victories like increased energy, improved digestion, and the satisfaction of cooking delicious and nourishing meals. This journey is not about perfection, but about progress, personal growth, and the empowerment that comes with taking control of your health through mindful choices.
So, step into the vibrant world of a gluten-free vegetarian diet with an open heart and a curious palate. Let this guide be your compass, but remember to personalize it with your own culinary adventures, cultural influences, and unique preferences. With every bite, you'll experience the joy of nourishment, the thrill of discovery, and the freedom to thrive on a plate brimming with possibilities.

I know what you’re thinking… you wanna renegade. But you need some stealth and gains. 🤔
Here comes the “In the Right Way” Push-Ups Program (Part 1)
(don’t worry, we’ve all been there). What gives?
Gains require sacrifices.
And nobody wants to hear that truth.
This workout program will empower you to train your discipline yourself.
After 6 months of each step, if this doesn’t work for you, you are allowed to break the rules and go back to an old habit. In fact, it can be good to do so to truly see that the same things hold less power over you.
I'm so convinced that this will work for you, though, that you won’t want to go back to your same old habits after the 6 months are up for each step in the same way.
There is a method to this madness, trust me. And I’m about to break it down for you:
Spend each step for 6 months. Between each of these steps, wait 4 weeks to get used to it before moving on to the next one, still replacing the old habit with the new one: push-ups to purge the absolute frack out of your demons.
So you’ll start the first step and hold that for a month before moving to the next step. The idea is that the steps will compound. You are not to let go of ANY step before 6 months.
The full version is not available yet, but once you’ve arrived at the sixth one, keep holding each step for 6 months until the continued version of this is released. There are 6 more hellish steps to go through after these 6. They're all free.
The reward? Freakin’ earning it. You’ll never be so happy to do a push-up in your life once all is said and done.
And more: more mindfulness, a personal sense of accomplishment, more focus, more intention, and more connection.
The Steps to Death by Push-Ups:
No Deceptions, no escapism
Focus on work and daily routines. Your dreams are not a reality unless you make them work.
The bad habit: escapism.
Any time you dip into escapism (thoughts of self-sabotage, falling prey to patterns of personal addiction to what numbs your thought-processes like mindless scrolling, thoughts of escaping your comfort zone), you are to do 9 push-ups right away.
2. No ego, no self
Focus on how you can foster healthy and well-balanced relationships. Take into consideration your partner's needs or whoever falls on your intimate path. Work on a balanced perspective and on compromise. Consider your true values to foster peace and harmony with others.
The bad habit: narcissism, excess vanity, and unjust selfishness. 🪞
Any time you catch yourself staring at a mirror for looking at a mirror to check yourself out or flex, any time you redirect conversations back to yourself, and any time you seek validation, you need to do 9 push-ups right away. Your gains won’t be a show-stopper unless your face is imperceptible from blood, sweat, and tears. 😤🩸
3. No false security, no new material possessions
Focus on transformation. Investigate what’s suspicious in your life. Now’s the time to destroy what you don’t need.
The bad habit: buying things you don’t really need, just to fill up a void inside you. 🫠
Any time you make a frivolous purchase on some material item, big or small, you gotta do 9 push-ups right away.
4. No environmental audience, no short journeys
Realize that the path to long-term success is a long one. That’s how this whole thing is going to feel like. 😴 Find religious verses for the inspiration that you need. Transcend simple communication and seek something higher. You will probably need this after the above steps. 😏
The bad habit: gossiping and having scattered focus.
Any time you engage in gossip or try to do too many things at once, do 9 push-ups right away.
5. No emotional instability, no overattachment to the past
Overidentification to your family and traditions can hinder your soul’s development. Now’s the time to focus on your career and what it is that YOU want for yourself.
The bad habit: letting other people define your needs and wants.
Any time you experience emotional turmoil or emotional outbursts, especially in your home environment, do 9 push-ups right away.
6. No external validation, no fear of self-expression
Let’s face it, when we need external validation, we are more afraid to express who it is we really are. Well, in this step, we’re throwing that need out the window so that we can express who it is we truly are. 🥹
The bad habit: caring what other people think.
Any time you stalk someone on social media, any time you check your phone to see if your gym crush texted you back, do 9 push-ups right away.
You may start off by doing several push-ups a day. That’s exactly great. That means you’re really mindful. Don’t give up! Keep building those gains. 💪🏼Are you ready? If you said no, you’re totally ready. 😈If you said yes, I think you may be underestimating this… either way, after 6 months of each, you’ll be unrecognizable in a very good way.

A Vision of Unity: Together for a Peaceful World"
Amidst the journey on the German autobahn, as Marcus gazed out of the bus window, his eyes fell upon a small calf being transported in a livestock truck headed for the slaughterhouse. The scene touched him deep within, and he felt a painful pang in his heart. As he continued to look out at the road, the sounds of John Lennon's famous song "Imagine" suddenly emanated from the bus speakers.
The words and melody penetrated deep into Marcus's soul. They reminded him of how the world could be - a world without heaven or hell, without borders, hatred, or religions dividing people. It was a vision of peace and love that moved Marcus to tears amidst the bleak reality he was witnessing.
The sounds of "Imagine" accompanied Marcus on his journey to Amsterdam, but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't forget the image of the frightened calf, traveling amidst the urban hustle towards its sorrowful fate. However, the song also gave him hope - hope for change and the possibility of creating a better world.
Upon arriving in Amsterdam, Marcus sought distraction from the heavy thoughts. He wandered through the picturesque streets and canals of the city, encountering people from different countries and cultures. He noticed how each individual walked their own path, yet remained interconnected. The words of "Imagine" came to his mind again, and he pondered on how this vision seemed alive in the diversity and unity of the city.
In the evening, Marcus visited a small bar with live music. There, he met a young woman named Lea, who was a talented musician. She, too, had been inspired by the song "Imagine" and shared her own version of it with Marcus, reflecting her deep desire for a harmonious world.
As Marcus and Lea spoke about their dreams and visions, they felt a strong connection to one another. Together, they sensed the power of music and art, capable of uniting people across boundaries. Marcus decided to take action to change the fate of the little calf and inspire others to contemplate.
Marcus and Lea jointly organized an animal rights demonstration in Amsterdam. People from different parts of the world gathered to express their support for a better future. The sounds of "Imagine" filled the air as Marcus and Lea performed together, sharing their message of hope and unity.
The event touched the hearts of many, and the message spread through social media and news platforms. Awareness of animal rights and the pursuit of a peaceful world expanded.
In the following weeks, Marcus and Lea collaborated to protect animals and the environment. They joined the Animal Rights Party, an organization advocating for ethical agriculture and respect for all living beings. Their dedication led to positive changes by reinforcing the awareness of the connection between peace, justice, and the environment.
The story of Marcus and Lea became a shining example of how a simple moment and a song can ignite a spark and become a movement that changes the world. Inspired by the vision described in John Lennon's "Imagine," they crafted a touching tale of compassion, interconnectedness, and the belief in a world where animals and humans can coexist in harmony.
And so, they continued to live, always aware that each individual possesses the power to bring about change if they have the courage to fight for what they believe in - a world where people and animals live side by side in peace, collectively savoring the precious gift of life.
You can listen to the song again at the following link: https://youtu.be/VOgFZfRVaww

Music in Nature Interpretation
Where is music in nature? Where is nature in music?
So many thoughts went through my head when I first read this prompt. All about my experiences with nature, practicing being quiet and listening to the sounds of trees in the wind, or the chorus of crickets and frogs at nighttime. I thought about my understanding of music, with instruments and tempo and harmony and notes. And I think about how music and nature are so connected, that once we've been prompted to reflect on this connection, it's hard to find where they are separate or different.
When I think of music in nature, it's there in the sounds of the animals: the songs of birds and whales, the grunts of moose and bears. It's in the plants and physical landscape: the whooshing of trees brushing together and the trickles of water. In nature, the different seasons, the different times of day, and the different biomes all contribute to producing unique music from nature.
I read more into the article "The Music of Nature and The Nature of Music" that was quoted in this week's content (Gray et al., 2001). The article talks about comparing the music made between species, like birds, whales, elephants, and humans, and asking the question: is music universal?
"The fact that whale and human music have so much in common even though our evolutionary paths have not intersected for 60 million years, suggests that music may predate humans" (Gray et al., 2001)
I thought this quote was interesting because it made me think back to the quote from Edward Hyams in our history unit when he made the point about the train station existing for longer than our train passes through it. I think both are a good reminder that there was nature before us and will be nature after us, just like how there was music before us with the whales and how music will exist after us.
That leads me into the topic of nature in music. I think a lot of people can find inspiration through nature. Whether it's like the DJ Ben Mirin physically sampling natural sounds to use in music, lyrics inspired by nature, or the tranquillity and peacefulness of just being in nature allowing an artist to be alone and think. A quick search for artists inspired by nature brought me upon this article of classical composers that were inspired in various ways by nature. Here is one particular piece that I enjoyed listening to while writing this blog! :)
youtube
"The story goes that Chopin was dreaming while playing the piano during a rainstorm. He was alone when his lover and her son returned home. He exclaimed that he dreamed of himself being drowned in a lake, with heavy drops of water dripping rhythmically on his chest."
As well, here is the link for the article of other composers like Vivaldi and Debussy:
Which song takes me immediately back to a natural landscape?
I love this question a lot, and I'm excited to read my peer's responses and create more connections with music and nature. I had two that came to mind, the first being a very important topic and touches on incorporating Indigenous knowledge and storytelling together. This song is from a multimedia project by Gord Downie telling the story of a boy named Chanie Wenjack who died while trying to escape the residential schools in Canada. Below is a link to the project's website, I would link a simple Youtube video but I like the animation that goes with the song.
Tumblr media
I know this is probably a grim and unexpected song and background compared to the normal campfire and road trip songs. But looking at the lyrics and listening to the surprisingly upbeat music, I'm sure you can see why this came to mind. It was the overall journey of Chanie that I recalled, and all of the animals and landscapes he passed that immediately take me back to a natural landscape when I listen.
And just for fun to brighten the mood of my blog before I close out, here's a song I listen to a ton right now because I'm feeling nostalgic and it's also applicable: This is Where I Belong by Bryan Adams (yes from the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron). Of course, the lyrics are literally talking about nature, but it always reminds me of the need to keep nature where it is, and not interfere with it.

book club ~*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These books are due and I have a little flu. I extended them two weeks and now on the night they needed to be returned to their HQ, crisis struck. So I am going to reflect a little on mine and then bring them back and pay my small fine.
I had about a month with these books and thoroughly skimmed them all. I just had a big move to a new house and wanted some books to settle in with during the transition period. Poetry seemed like an avenue to feel and experience small stories quickly and really meditate on the feelings. The Feng Shui book was chosen because when I moved a friend knew some of the elements of Feng Shui and helped me put my bed in the ideal spot. The Subtle Energy Body looked too cool to not select.
Maya Angelou’s Complete Collected Poems
‘Alone’ resonated with me. To me it highlights the fact that nobody can make it in life alone and that our souls need each other. This is a really nice sentiment to remember when doing spiritual work when the focus can be on you and yourself a lot of the time. Maya Angelou has such an incredible range of topics to read.
What Have I Ever Lost by Dying?
I was in the poetry section and was drawn to the title of the book. Then when looking at the table of contents I saw there was an entire section that was just meditating on a specific object. The poet describes an oyster as ‘impenetrable and thuggy’ and a peeled orange as ‘scared and naked’. It has inspired me to look at objects more mindfully, as vision is maybe my most used and most favorite sense. There are dark themes weaved throughout the poetry as well, positioning death against this grounding practice of object observation. A true lesson in mindfulness and presence - written in such beautiful form!
Feng Shui: Arranging Your Home To Change Your Life
The authors present a method called ‘practical feng shui’ which combines different schools of thought. Oldest school of feng shui is from 618-907 AD
Traditional Tools of Feng Shui: Colors, Numbers, Animals, Symbols, Elements
Things to Consider in a Space: Color, Furniture, Artwork, Plants, Room Shape, Location
Feng Shui means “wind and water” or “natural surroundings”
Can use a compass to orient things in the home like how it has been done traditionally or you can use the front door as a starting point (like used in Black Hat Sect Tantric Tibetan Buddhism
Goal is to reach a balance between yin and yang. The ‘interaction’ between these ‘creates the changes that keep the world turning’. Think: seasons, passing of days, perception and energy around us
Yin = female, dark, passive, the earth, the moon, receptivity, darkness, cold, death
Yang = male, light, active, dragon, fierce, strong, hot, moving, living, heaven and the sun, life
Yin, Yang, and Chi are ‘knitted together’ by the ‘principle’ of the Tao in all things (the way or the path - seeking harmony and balance)
Focus: I will use the colors on the Ba Gua to reflect on what I want to bring into my life (mostly work & inner peace) maybe black, purple, and yellow! My room faces the West, so I will think about what is associated with that and what I keep by the window. My South Window is where red might go, and I like that it is associated with birds and summer. On my dresser on the North side is where I could burn black candles, keep water, or a tortoise lol. We have 7s in our address and the front of the house where the numbers are faces the West. Our back yard faces the East and has wood and lots of green. Yellow links heaven and earth, governs motherhood (makes sense). What can I put that is Red in the South? Everything in my room is pink... a shade of red
The Subtle Energy Body
The pictures in this book were so beautiful to look at - all of the symbolism of energy and connection! And so much of the book was concepts I have read about since my ‘spiritual awakening’ in my youth but never really understood in a deep way. So it was really grounding to hear these things again (like gunas and auras) and feel it in a new way and actually feel like I can apply it to my life. This book I wish I could keep forever
