Metalsandwich + Food/Cooking Headcanons
Eddie can prepare anything that comes in a can or box. There is always baked beans and Shake N’ Bake in that boy’s cupboards. Eating cereal dry is no problem. Sometimes dinner is just whatever he can put on a stick over the fire pit. Sometimes he forgets to eat dinner because of the executive dysfunction and he’s been running on a big bag of skittles since noon. Eddie and food is chaos.
Steve is a big takeout guy. When his parents are around, they go out to eat. When they aren’t around, they leave a credit card behind for food to show they’re not that neglectful. Steve could try and figure out how to use the dozens of unused kitchen gadgets his parents have bought, but that would require regularly buying groceries in between school and work so delivery pizza and fried chicken it is.
Billy has very basic cooking skills, because he’s had to figure things out himself. He can maybe prepare a decent breakfast. He doesn’t eat a lot of junk food or take out, though, because he’s obsessed with his figure. He clutters the kitchen counter with protein powders and outright refuses to eat certain meals if they’re too fatty. Loves hot sauce. Sometimes survives off cigs and coffee.
When they start living together, there’s a lot of shit they gotta learn to navigate.
Do they need to put Eddie on a feeding schedule like a cat so he eats consistently? Perhaps. Will Steve try to learn how to use every single gadget in the kitchen with the ingredients Billy bought? Sure. Will Steve get frustrated and order a pizza instead even though Billy is lactose intolerant (and has told no one)? Absolutely. Will Eddie mistake Billy’s protein powders for Nesquik and eat it all? Yeah.
(TL;DR: They are all disasters.)

There seems to be a growing trend amongst the Encanto fanfic community where the steam is going out. Not for lack of original content from writers but more so the spark that keeps any of us writing, which is interaction. Might seem silly but when you are writing into the big void it's a lot like talking to your reflection in the mirror. It always agrees with you and doesn't push you forward with new ideas.
A few recent anons and private msgs have been from other writers asking for feedback on their fic or to use an idea/hc they've seen me talk about. And let me say it super duper loud that I welcome these messages. Please send me your fics to read and don't be shy. It might take me a minute to get through each but by damn I will do it.
We need to assemble the community with our own Encanto bat signal.

So today I am embarking on a new reading project that I’m very excited about
Back in the day, I used to read all the various Star Trek novels (with the exception of any Mirrorverse novels because I hate the Mirrorverse). I haven’t read any in a while and I heard that the storylines I followed (which are known as the Litverse) have come to a come to a conclusion
This is because of Picard and Lower Decks and some of the new TV that’s out there. New canon has come up, rending the old litverse to be an AU, so to speak. Like all of the Star Wars books once The Force Awakens was released
My plan, is to read the majority of the books in the litverse, in as close to chronological order as I can
I made a spreadsheet (because that’s who I am as a person) and thanks to some great references out there, figured out the order that I want to read
There are 130 books to read
Last year, I read about 70 books, so this will probably take me two years to do. I want to document my progress, so I’m going to write a quick review of each book after I’m done. They’ll be tagged, so you can skip the posts if you want
We’ll see how it goes! I’ll take breaks as I go as other books are released or my library holds come in, but this is going to be a very interesting project!
First up, The Good that Men Do, which is an Enterprise novel. Now technically, these novels aren’t really part of end game, but I’m a rare person who really loves Enterprise, so I’m reading them! :D

Just thinking with pencils again.
All the DnD I've been watching lately has gotten me on a fantasy mood, and I started to casually dig around in one of my numerous headworlds with the genre.
Nothing serious, as I still don't have things like "plot" or "story" to go with it, more just poking the worldbuilding with a stick, so to say. This is the one I dumped all my old WoW characters into years ago, and it's been long in the process of reshaping the character races to be, well, less WoW.
This time thinking of elves. This one's original incarnation was a blood elf, but I don't really think elves of this particular headworld have any reason to be pale. The setting has more of a spec evo flavor than the traditional wizard-did-it high fantasy, and since elves split from humans before the latter had populations evolve lighter skin tones for agriculture reasons (once people stopped getting enough vitamin D from their diet, they needed to evolve less pigment for their skin to manufacture more of it), I thought it might be fun to leave them with the ancestral default of darker pigment.
So this is basically just me playing with different flavours of elf skin color. I could just go the human route and leave them different shades of brown, but I kinda want to play with it a little more, to push it into less human direction. My first thought was going for whatever gray/black sphynx cats have with the kinda purpleish gray (which, note to self, that particular copic marker did not match). Another option would be to tip it right into grayscale range (did I just reinvent the drow? I might have just reinvented the drow. Dang) and with the last one, I still think quite fondly this one character design I did a while back of a half elf with point markings with temperature sensitive albinism, and I still kinda love that, so I added it to the line up (although I guess it should fade into a more pinkish than pale gray hue, but I'm just testing things).
Nothing substantial, really, just something small to play around with.

This is what I was losing my mind about on Friday only with less cursing and more well written.
The government pointed to laws in several colonies and states that disarmed classes of persons considered dangerous—namely, enslaved people and Indigenous people. The Fifth Circuit said that the domestic abusers’ restriction was insufficiently similar, because it disarms people after individualized findings of credible threats to other identified persons, whereas the historical laws disarmed classes of people deemed a threat to the political and social order. Put plainly, the law was held unconstitutional because it disarmed citizens for reasons other than the brazen enforcement of white supremacy.
I am still so angry about this, I can't even deal. But gosh, Madilba K. Dennie is such a good writer and she is so right:
The first drafters of the document articulated important, inclusive democratic ideals but did not yet know how to live up to them. The courts must stop rejecting everything we’ve learned over hundreds of years and calling doing so wisdom. Lives quite literally depend on it.
