Thank you Turtles for yet another great piece on IFYLITA. I'm so excited that you picked up the novel. So having known the context, how would you have fixed the IFYLITA finale, if you were the director and didn't know if it was possible to have a S2 or not? Would you still have included all 3 Yais or do you think you would have tried to extend IFYLITA into a 16-18 episode series in order to adapt everything from start to finish? Is there anything from Part 1 of the novel that you are glad/happy that it wasn't adapted into the series or things you like that the series have done differently/taken different approach from the novel?

You must be so tired after your work trip and I'm really sorry for bothering you about IFYLITA even though you just wrote such a long post about it 😭

@clairedaring, I will take ANY EXCUSE to keep talking about I Feel You Linger In The Air -- I LOVE this extended conversation, thank you for engaging me in it! <3

Here's my thinking on how this first season shaped up, and a lot of this comes from conversation that I had with @lurkingshan and @neuroticbookworm before I read the novel last week into this week.

The material for the 1928 Chiang Mai era clearly fit a style and a tone that director Tee Bundit knew he could do a lot with. (@clairedaring, my recent history with Tee Bundit has been in watching many of his shows -- TharnType and Lovely Writer in particular -- for my Old GMMTV Challenge project, where I'm watching older Thai BLs to learn more about the genre. I also watched Step By Step -- TT and SBS are two of my most passionately hated shows, and I utterly LOVED Lovely Writer, so I have a real love-hate relationship with Tee Bundit, lmao.)

Since I've read the novel -- I'm glad he stuck with one era for the first season, and I really liked how he expanded it. We know that Eaung Peang and Robert have much more minor roles in the novel, and Tee Bundit greatly expanded EP's role to include a lesbian main couple, as well as a dialogue about women's reproductive health and freedom. There was Yai's arranged marriage in the drama that got extended, as well as the criminal downfall of Uncle Dech, Robert, and Yai's father by proxy. Yai's mother gaining power to run the family after that, etc., etc. -- these are all themes that Tee clearly glommed onto in expanding that era, and @clairedaring, to the point you made in the reblog tags of my previous piece from yesterday, I am SUPER glad we spent most of our time in this era. Tee also just made it GORGEOUS for us to watch, which was a treat.

I think if Tee had tried to include all three Yais, we would have felt short shrifted. The Seehasingkorn/Ayutthaya era of the novel is so lengthy. And there are HUGE behavioral change moments for both Jom and Commander Yai in that era. Especially for a Thai audience that's familiar with the novel, if that had gotten shortened, then there definitely would be public criticisms and outcries. (Plus? That era was so much FUN in the novel. Jom was SO SASSY and bold to start courting Commander Yai first!)

I think, if Tee Bundit gave a huge bunch of energy and attention to 1928 Chiang Mai, he'd want to do the same for an even older, more nomadic era. I cannot imagine how beautiful it would be to see that depicted.

And then Tee could fix the order of some scenes from the first season, and we could see more reveals in context, as well as the present day? A season 2 would just be ridiculously awesome for all of that.

The one thing I would have liked fixed was the redundancy from episode 11 to episode 12. I also would have liked more specific clarity about pieces of Jom being lost every time a drawing was made -- we saw that he froze and transcended himself, but that was illuminated pretty early on in the novel, and I think the same could have been done in the series without losing dramatic effect.

But these are minor quibbles. We got to center ourselves in the development of the incredible relationship between Khun Yai and Jom to start the dramatic introduction to this series, and the way Tee Bundit did it defied nearly all of my expectations about this work. He didn't miss any of the big themes of the novel, which I so appreciate, and I think he enriched our experience of the novel by expanding greatly the plight of women in that era. I'm glad we had mostly one Yai to deal with, because more of them would have been a lot!

Hello, hello!! It's me, your favorite graduate, back with a burning question! ;)

I am in the middle of episode 11 of Why R U? (literally paused in the middle of it because I am WAY too invested in FighterTutor and am seriously dreading what is coming) - what a messy, cringey show. There are so many freaking characters, and my question is inspired by one that I have come to love, Kae. He is Tutor's boss at the bakery, and after he (bravely, in IRL standards) confronts Fighter's dad I realized just how much I appreciated his character and how annoyed I am that the show couldn't cut down its cabal of unnecessary characters to focus on more interesting ones. Not only is he an astonishingly great example (for a BL!!) of a queer "elder" in the community - he protects Tutor from creepy customers, gives him a job when he needs one and looks for help when he needs more work, is working-class himself, and tries to give advice to this lonely queer kid he's taken under his wing - he also seems to be a rare less-stereotypical portrayal of a Thai person with darker skin (if not the only, honestly, in my limited experience watching these shows).

So! My question is, are there any side characters or even guest characters (like Kae is billed as) who you wish had been given more latitude or importance in the plot/story of a BL?

OMG what a great question. YES SO MANY. Let me see if I can come up with a top 10. Does it have to be individuals? Can I pick a few couples (I won’t go too far because therein lies madness)?

Top 10 Side Characters I Wish We Got More Screen Time

1. Touch & Daisy in Secret Crush On You

Is anyone surprised by this choice?

2. Choi Yu Na, JaeYeong’s bisexual bestie in Semantic Error

She was just... so effortlessly cool. Do I need to say more?

3. TulHin in Love By Chance 2

I LOVE THEM, OKAY. Classic whipping boy, my goddamn catnip. And these two actors had amazing chemistry. Ae’s whole arc and character should have been dropped from this script in favor of more time with these truly damaged goods. Yes, I said it. Sorry Perth.

AND ALSO

4. Keen in Love By Chance 2

Can’t believe I chose multiples from MAME trash but heh, whatever is necessary for the truth right? Basically this show needed a massive rewrite, but it could have been done.

That’s what’s so frustrating about MAME’s stuff, it’s so close to being amazing... It’s like this fantastic 5 course meal but you will be barfing at some point. Maybe the end? Maybe the middle? Maybe multiple times? It’s a regurgitation surprise!

5. Fong the Philosopher in Still 2gether

Khaotung is untaped genius at physical comedy. I love him in this role SO HARD. I think we got a lot from him in season one, but I wanted more in season 2.

6. PokeTongue in Gen Y 2 & What Zabb Man

Look we all know that during Gen Y 2 they were actually pretending to be in some other show. And frankly, we all would have rather been watching that show. Then they got given an actual other show and we STILL wanted more of them.

7. ChampDoc in TharnType 2

I take the 5th.

8. Beer in Oxygen

I just wanna look at James but he’s getting his own series (Bed Friends) so I’m okay now.

9. Sky & Pai in La Cuisine

Talk about crumbs. What? I mean WHAT WAS THAT? They had these two in their back pocket all along and DIDN’T use them? WHAT?

10. VegasPete in KinnPorsche

Oh I fucking said it. You were all thinking it from ep 10 on, weren’t you? Why the hell didn't this start in ep 5? Vegas was entirely unnecessary as a love interest for Porsche. It would have been fine, no BETTER, if Porsche & Vegas had developed as a friendship and Vegas had NOTICED Pete in a significant way much earlier.*

* Don’t comment on this. I’m not interested in this weird KP fandom imaginary-connection muck-wanking thing you’re all AO3ing all over Tumblr like a bad rash. And I could not care less about the original y-novel.

Honorable Mention

All the GLs that should have had more screen time like the cuties in Meow Ears Up, InkPa in Bad Buddy, and Friend Zone 2, and I could keep going.

The angry roommate ex lover in Love Class. I just really loved the actor and was very intrigued by the character. We could have spent much less time exploring the stalker story and more time with this boy and still kept the dumb sort KBL length. All in all, the weight of this narrative was all over the place but not using this character to the fullest was a problem.

The two besties of the seme in Mr Unlucky, SO CUTE.

The nerdy support boy who knows what it’s like to be gay and the artsy girl with serious self defense skills from Blueming.

The whole university friendship group that *almost* happened in Cherry Blossoms After Winter.

Tim in My Secret Love, preferably shirtless.

Nutch in Not Me.

Mew the ex boyfriend in Together With Me. I don’t know what they were doing with his character. And they didn’t either. But ho boy was he EASY on the eyes. So easy. I mean it takes work to pull attention away from MaxTul and he had ALL MY ATTENTION.

And (drum roll please) . . .

K.O. & HAO MEI (Love O2O)

I will die on this tiny hill of censored bromance. More of them would have substantially improved this show.

I'm not picking shows that couldn’t be saved.

So I love KhunKaow in Brothers and CopyNampu in Top Secret Together and SanAei in You’re My Sky, Saint in Our Days, Jun in Love Area 2, but I don't think more of them could have save their respective shows because then it would have been MORE terrible show to watch. I call these the "I'm your huckleberry" awards. I give one each year to the couple that was the only good thing in an otherwise irredeemable show. Like Val Kilmer in Tombstone (bite me).

Thank you my love @disaster-j for tagging me - This is extremely overdue I know; I had this whole post written out almost 2 weeks ago but then right when I was getting ready to publish this 💖lovely💖 website decided to refresh and my post was lost. I was so mad that I didn't want to re-write it, but here I am anyways.

Currently Watching (I'm extending this to shows that have juuust finished too)

Kinnporsche - It's so fresh in my mind. I have way too many thoughts about this show to put down here, so i'm going to make another post similar to my Not Me Retrospective - all the things that were right and the things that were not. It may not have stuck to the book, and it may not have fully lived up to all the hype and expectations, but it's still unlike any other BL i've seen so far. Gotta commend them for that. Also it's the VegasPete show now, sorry I didn't make the rules. 7/10 (i'm sorry pls don't @me just read my retrospective later)

To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories - talented brilliant incredible amazing show-stopping spectacular...I think she deserves a separate post for herself too. Maybe when i'm not drowning under the guilt of not working on my Dissertation. There wasn't too much angst, the ending wasn't rushed, it was honestly perfect. Imperfect can be perfect too, you know. 11/10

Old Fashion Cupcake - I had low expectations for this so it kind of blew me out of the water. Great acting, incredible chemistry, and that scene in Ep 4 lives rent free in my brain. It's amazing how they (mostly) managed to tell a story in just 5 episodes and still have it feel complete and not unnecessarily rushed. A teensy bit of beef with how the finale went, but there's always something isn't there. 8.5/10

My Secret Love - Pretty mid, like the standard GMMTV sort of fare, featuring My-ponytail-is-my-personality-trait Boy, Walmart Saint Suppapong, Why RU's too-many-couples disease, mildly problematic behavior and a thin excuse of a plot. Still, it's nice to get something banal and light-hearted after all the weekend angst of KP and TMS. The latest ep was surprisingly better and less superficial than all the others so far.

Star and Sky: Sky in my Heart - The sequel to JoongDunk's Star in my Mind, this is typical lighthearted GMMTV stuff ft. P'Mek and debut actor Mark. A series of mini-series' where new couples get to flex their acting muscles a bit and test out their chemistry on the screen. I don't have much to say except it's soft and cute, nothing too groundbreaking.

Watching Special Clip 11, with Tankhun + his bodyguard detail actors reacting to Ep 6, and I have 2 things to say:

1) All of you other guys move over, there is a new fave, and he is Tong Thanayut. Sorry Bible, sorry Build. They’ve played you guys too close to the vest, and meanwhile THIS GUY has snuck in and usurped your place in my heart. This motherfucker is SO adorable I just want to put him in my pocket and carry him around with me FOREVER. Don’t get me wrong, they’re ALL a picture when they get to the end of the episode, but istg watching Tong’s reaction, in particular, to those climactic moments with Kinn and Porsche is almost as good as watching the scene itself. He is SO into their relationship. I love him. I want to keep him forever. (UGH. Does this mean I’m going to have to watch Tharntype to see more of him? Is it worth it?)

I notice he’s also very touchy-feely with Build during the whole thing, which is again adorable and also makes me think of the bts clip I’ve seen a couple of times floating around where it looks like Tong and Build are lying on a bed together, talking, and Bible comes up and blankets Build as if to re-assert his territory. lol

2) I know they can’t include a full hour-long reaction, but I notice they DID NOT include the segment in which Kinn wonders out loud if Tankhun is playing up his eccentricities and mental issues to avoid having to act as Mafia Heir, along with Porsche’s discussion of his own trauma to bolster Tankhun’s response, and I dunno. I guess I just would have expected them to get a bunch of actors to react to other scenes from other actors that explicitly talk about their own storylines when they’re not there? I’d be interested in what they had to say, in that situation? Am I reading too much into the fact that the clip avoids this segment, like Tong in particular and maybe Build, Job and Bas, too, might know more/too much than what the show has revealed so far?

This Week In BL

May 2021 Part 1

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Second Chance Ep 6 fin - Chris & Jeno were TOO CUTE we got ALL the tropes: parental passing on the torch of care (a rare one), hair drying, hair touching, the prom with everyone was in adorable suits (Tang Yi approves), GOOD kisses, confessions galore, boop (+ bonus pool boop), tumblr now thinks they’re lesbians (new trope I’ve just decided on), claiming, rooftop assignation. Conclusion? This is one of the best BL pulps I’ve seen in a really long time. We are PLEASED!

Y-Destiny Ep 7 - a pretty classic take on the “reformed player/rake” romance trope plus a ton of BL visuals like back hug, messy eater, rooftop assignation, and pillow clutch (a Cheewin signature). Cheewin sure knows his tropes (he should, he started a lot of them and his YYY Special is nothing but a trope parody pastiche, it’s Absolute BL before Absolute BL and A LOT weirder).

Lovely Writer Ep 11 - The casting closet has come to play. I really like that LW is taking the industry and fans to task. It’s hard to watch sometimes, but it SHOULD be a little squirmy and uncomfortable. This was an excellent Episode 11 and we all suffered for it. I hope they can resolve it well in the finale. They’ve done great work so far, I trust them.

Close Friend Ep 3: (Willing or Not) - sports kinda romance, it was cute because MaxNat are cute together, but it reminded me a lot of their arc in Why R U, which is to say, short and somewhat forgettable.

Fish Upon The Sky Ep 5 - am I over this? I think I might be over it. Not into the punching down humor in terms of femme or Sikhs, I don’t like Pi, and found myself fast-forwarding through most of this ep. Mostly I only watch when Mork is on screen. I wanna know why Mork likes Pi so much, but that’s all I’m interested in. Tons of tropes but I’m not even motivated to screen cap, which is saying something. Look, the characters pretty much lack motivation and so I’m losing sympathy.

Nitiman Ep 1 - oh I like it. This is the standard Thai BL delicious trash I know and love. 2 Moons university setting pastiche, check! Engineering students = gay, check! Instant hate vrs instant love, check! Seme vrs tsundere uke, check! Plus the side dishes are tasty. I’m disposed to be pleased, especially as Fish is disappointing. Sadly they insisted on singing, but you can’t have everything.

Love Area Ep 1 - I’m not holding this post just for one BL that I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how it is next week.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korea) Ep 7-8 fin - so flipping cute, their little smiles, just GAH. Bit of a dead fish kiss but I don’t care because I loved this tiny show full of soft bois and no one saying anything directly (except our man with the poetry, I hope he finds his true love). Adorable.

Papa & Daddy (Taiwan) Ep 3 - HOW IS THIS SHOW SO WHOLESOME? This is possibly the cutest thing on air right now (and I don’t actually like children). Just GAH! The actual Taipei pride footage. I didn’t even mind all the product placement (I happen to like that bubbly myself). It’s just so cute. Everyone should be watching this. It will make you feel so good and happy. Not gonna lie, this ep is ALL about queer found family and I might have ugly cried over the teddy bear at the end - in a good way. *** Quick note because I think it’s super important: in 2020 Taiwan Pride was called March for the World. Why? Because Taiwan managed to control C19 better than any other country, they were the only country able to hold pride safely, so they did it for all of us. I don’t feel like they got enough recognition for this.

Word of Honor (China) Ep 34-36 fin - In the end, WoH turned out to be a morality tale about the superiority of agrarian society over semi-nomadic tribes combined with a message about enduring love profoundly undermined by Chinese censorship. It’s like this amazing meal. I ate my fill, and enjoyed every bite, but had a bit too much, and now I have heart burn. Am I upset about the ending? Sure am. Good for them for manipulating my emotions! Was this a great drama? Yes. Did I expect this from China? Sure did. Do i feel betrayed anyway? Sure do. I guess these things are going to have to coexist in my psyche. Along with heart burn. Here have the actual-not-really-epilogue-ending. It's wafer thin. I’m putting this one to bed. I feel like I’ve said my piece and I want to move on from 36 courses of pretty men in pretty robes full of pretty innuendoes and deadly peanuts. I’ll miss the big fuck off white fan, tho.

My Lascivious Boss (Vietnam) Ep 5 - still very much enjoying it, the secret identity lies are beginning to unravel, tension is increasing. I don’t see how they can resolve this in just one episode tho, so this series might go longer than 6 episodes (rare for Vietnam).

HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 8 - I demand Boxiang & Zhigang (repping for the healthy LTR and marriage equality) show up in every HIStory installment henceforth. This was a cute ep, lots of good communication & tropes. Still not sure how I feel about the stepbrothers, but can’t complain about their chemistry (waves at TharnType). Speaking of, how awesome that Yongjie caught the man he always wanted, that man is a SUPER bossy bottom, and Yongjie is like ...

Gossip

Crazy rumor that Singto has a new BL in the works (totally unsubstantiated). It’s Still Just Us (frankly, the biggest strike against this being true is how grammatically correct the title is).

Vietnam is messing with our heads and hearts by putting the leads from Nation’s Brother and Most Peaceful Place together into a delightful little love triangle of... something or other. Honestly, I’ve no idea what this is. The actors playing around? A new series? An advertisement? What?

Breaking News

Mandee (of Why R U fame) dropped a “mini intro” for something that they’re calling Bed Friend series. HI BEER! But I thought these two (James & Net) were the side dishes for Middle Love AKA Middleman's Love. I am so confused. (Get your titles together Thailand, no one wants you going down the Taiwanese rabbit hole, mm’kay?)

Taiwan would call it: Middleman’s Middle Love: Bed Friend.

Top Secret Together got a full trailer with subs. I’m kinda over ensemble pulp pieces (like Close Friend, Bothers, Y-Destiny) but the presence of Newyear makes this one I’m still going to watch. It starts this Friday on Line TV.

Cutie Pie the series got a teaser (fundraising trailer). Arranged marriage, home/office set, Thai BL staring Zee? Sign me tf up! I am so excited, I hope they can make this happen. Deets here. (Thanks @heretherebedork for the tip.)

I’ve actually not seen many BLs, I started a bit before BB came out and made this blog just to have a little archive of nice moments, but now look at me. This will probably turn into a BB love letter.

1. Your all time favourite bl and why: Bad Buddy man, this is possibly my favourite TV show overall at this point. I guess it pulled me in with the whole rivals to lovers thing but I just loved it more with every episode and I went just absolutely crazy over it. It’s the way it dives into solving a conflict immediately instead of dragging it out for dramatic effect (like Pran straight up asking Ink if she likes Pat instead of agonizing over it), it’s the even relationship between Pat and Pran, it’s the chemistry, it’s Pran crying at the end of ep 4, it’s Pat saying “no” in episode 5, it’s the play fights, it’s the unashamed unhinged queerness of it all… I’ll stop now… I just love this show so much

2. That one bl that scarred you for life: Bad Buddy 😐 will never get over ep4 and ep11

3. Is there any bl that made you feel very single: I’m not single so not really 😅

4. If you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be? Since everyone’s got the big ones covered, I’ll play along and chose only one: the obsession with men’s boobs and groping them. Personal pet peeve, I hate it.

5. That one bl you detest (don’t hold back): Again, didn’t see a lot of BLs and none that I really hate. I guess TharnType? I gave it a shot but couldn’t get past the first couple of episodes. Miss me with the weird rape shit and jealousy and toxicity :/

6. Your top 5: heck... I’ve seen so few 1) Bad Buddy 2) We Best Love: No. 1 For You 3) To My Star 4) really digging Not Me so far 5) Light On Me I think... it was so cute

7. That trashy bl that you lowkey like: I only watch high class BL. Standards my beloved (no but really, I don’t know what would be considered trashy?)

11. A bunch of dramas will air soon. Which ones are you most excited for? To My Star 2, KinnPorsche, Between Us (I was a little underwhelmed by the special episodes because the Team was suddenly extra baby??? Didn’t vibe with that dynamic. But I’m still excited for the show, I hope it will be more like UWMA instead), maybe Cutie Pie? I’m waiting to see if we’ll get more badass drummer or meek rich boy Kuea (hoping for badass, come on, don’t let me down)

Tbh, especially after watching lovely writer ep 11, Thai BL no longer needs the 'ep 11 curse' to be a thing. I understand they need the angst factor, but some BL couples end up breaking up for stupid reasons.

Like, the couple will have pretty good communication, and then a misunderstanding that could easily be talked over ends up causing them to break up and you just go "what the actual fuck is wrong with you two?"

Eg: Tharntype s2 (ik it's not the best example, but ehh) . Type straight up says he's never looked at another man the way he looks at Tharn, and s2 is 7 years after s1. So whyyy does Tharn blow the hell up and accuse Type of cheating?

Look tharntype is the series where I’m on both sides lol. Tharn was ridiculous for accusing Type of cheating, but I don’t think he actually thought he did. I think Tharn just said the most hurtful thing he could to Type because he felt hurt.

ANYWAYS! I do agree that some of these couples break up for dumb shit that always boils down to miscommunications and misunderstandings. I’ve only seen a handful of series where the angst comes from outside forces. That’s the angst I appreciate because it’s not just a couple being unstable and not trusting each other, it adds a more realistic layer when it’s something else forcing them to be apart.

Lovely Writer def did the ep 11 curse on purpose and used it to bring awareness to how BL stans are. I’ve said it many times, but Lovely Writer has a level of satire about the BL world that I’m enjoying. Like the way the series is exposing toxic tropes, fandoms, stans, and production is INSANE!

Gene and Sib’s breakup makes me think about 2 very real things.

1. When MewGulf first started with TT, Gulf had a girlfriend. She was a pretty model(?) and toxic MewGulf/TharnType stans attacked and bullied her for a long time until she and Gulf broke up. People were talking about not watching the series anymore and how disappointed they were that Gulf had a girlfriend and was cheating on her because he was kissing Mew in the series.

2. Sam Lin, the actor from We Best Love, also has a girlfriend, but he chooses not to talk about her because he likes to keep his personal life separate from work. I don’t know her name or what she looks like and that’s on purpose. Sam chooses not to reveal who she is because he KNOWS how toxic some stans are and he wants to keep a happy relationship. Some stans still ask about her and others respect his privacy about his relationship.

I just think Lovely Writer reminds me of real life situations way too frequently in the BL world.

1. Your all-time favourite BL and why: There’s no way I could ever pick between Bad Buddy and Manner Of Death. I could ramble on about both of these for days but simply put: Bad Buddy is the ultimate love story and Manner Of Death is a murder mystery BL. Need I say more?

2. The one BL that scarred you for life: Okay wait, there’s a story behind this one! When I started watching BLs and GLs, I researched and scoured blogs so that I could build up a massive watchlist and just binge through them. But like. I didn’t want spoilers. So I never checked warnings or reviews or plot summaries. Point is that I ended up watching Tharntype with no idea what I was going into and being absolutely horrified (I think I made it to… Ep 2 or 3?). This is probably funny for me to say, considering the number of BLs I’ve watched and how dub con is kind of an unfortunate staple of the genre, but I despise noncon and dub con with a passion and nothing will get me to DNF a show faster. (Also, I know Baker Boys isn’t a BL but Punn’s cake nightmares really creeped me out too. And the child sexual harassment in Ep 1. Anyway.)

3. Is there any BL that made you feel very single? Bad Buddy 1000%. It’s the way their relationship was built on such a strong foundation of friendship and devotion, the way they would oppose the world to be together, the way they never even consider breaking up, the way they’re a team and face every obstacle together. Just. Patpran. They made me feel single before they were even dating. And as if they weren’t perfect enough, Inkpa is the final nail in the coffin. Bad Buddy knows how to do romance best, no two ways about it.

4. If you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be? Oh man, I can only pick one thing from one show? Gaya Sa Pelikula’s ending (I made a point to only watch up to the point where they got together and everything was good and happy, because I heard that it didn’t have a happy ending and I’m a big sucker 👍🏻), the entire second half of 2Gether, I would make Ace less horrible at the beginning of #My Day, I would get rid of Bohn and Duen (the only thing I didn’t like about My Engineer) or drastically alter their personalities and dynamic, Soo Hee’s entire arc in Light On Me, any BL that ever had a character force their ex to date them by threatening to kill themselves (not naming names but I’ve seen two now and that’s a big personal trigger and it’s never handled well), etc etc. I could go on. Name any BL I’ve watched, even Bad Buddy or Manner of Death, and I guarantee I can come up with a list of minimum five things that I would change. Picking just one thing in one show is impossible. Have I uhh… have I ever mentioned that I’m ridiculously nitpicky?

5. That one bl you detest (don’t hold back): Like I said, I can’t stand Tharntype. (No offence to any stans out there, you do you.)

6. Your top 5: Manner of Death, Bad Buddy, A Tale of a Thousand Stars, Cherry Magic, History 3: Trapped. Not Me and Keita Hatsukoi might make the list though, once I finish them.

7. That trashy bl that you lowkey like: 2Gether. It’s one of my favourites, a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it’s also kind of a mess.

8. Your favorite Korean bl (it’s important we know): Definitely Light On Me.

9. But also your top 3 for kbls: Light On Me… err, maybe To My Star and My Sweet Dear? (Sorry, I tend to prefer Thai BLs. Except Korea, for some reason, makes the better cooking dramas. *glares at Bite Me*)

10. Season 2? Which one? My Engineer! I think it’s the only BL drama that’s ever had me desperate for a second season (GLs and Kdramas, on the other hand…). Luckily a second season is supposedly in the works! (Unluckily they had to recast some of the actors. But you win some, you lose some, right? I just want Ramking canon.)

11. A bunch of dramas will air soon. Which ones are you most excited for? Oh! So many! For BLs, there’s Something In My Room (aired three days ago), Physical Therapy (tomorrow!), Enchanté (next Friday), My Ride (Jan 27), Cutie Pie (Feb 12), Kinnporsche (supposedly April), Fahlanruk (TBD), and Dear Doctor (TBD). I’m most excited for Kinnporsche (I’m absolute trash for crime shows), really hoping it lives up to the hype and the trailers! For GLs, there’s Gap The Series, The Girlfriend Planner, Girl Love Girlfriend, and Reverse 4 You, none of which have scheduled air dates yet (as far as I’m aware)!
