There were definite perks and draw backs of working at Richmond. On one hand as a receptionist, you got paid to do honestly not very much. However, on the other hand you had to deal with a weird amount of prank calls from football fans.
One recently developing perk was the free coffee you received every morning. No, it wasn't a company thing or from your boss or other colleagues. Every morning this week Jan Maas walked in with a black coffee in one hand and an iced caramel mocha latte with an extra shot of expresso in the other.
It all started when you happened to walk into work at the same time and he noticed the Starbucks cup in your hand. "Is that even coffee at this point?" He half teased half seriously wondered.
"It is coffee," you said, drawing out the words as you defended yourself as Jan opened the front door for you, "caffeine not enough for me. I need that sugar high to deal with you lot,"
Jan chuckled at you, walking you over to the desk where your coworker pretended not to be listening in. "Funny. I thought you were sweet enough. See you later," he said, walking away to leave you a blushing mess.
However as soon as he got out of sight Jan became equally as flustered as he realised what he'd said. What was worse was Sam hearing him muttering under his breath about it resulting in Sam telling all the guys who then set up a plan to teach Jan how to flirt.
The issue was he wasn't very good at it. Instead, every morning without fail he got your coffee for you. "Hey Jan," you called, rolling down your car window as you slowed down. It was 7am and he was walking to Richmond with two coffees in hand, "need a lift?"
Jan preferred to walk. He'd never really seen the big deal around cars. However, he was quick to accept your offer. "My coffees will bankrupt you," you joked as you accepted the drink before resuming your drive.
"Don’t worry about it," he laughed, "your worth the money,"
"Think you can buy my affection? “you teased as you were pulling into Richmond.
"Maybe," he said it quietly, his eyes darting away before back to yours. "Is it working?" He asked.
You turned the car off, taking a long sip out your coffee while pretending to think about it, "I think it might be," you finally said, a smile on your lips and a large grin on his. "Throw in a pastry next time and I'm yours,"
When people saw you get out the same car there were some rumours to say the least. Another drawback of the job. However, another perk was walking in right now with a coffee and a suspiciously sweet-smelling brown bag.
"I wasn't sure which to get so I picked whichever looked the sweetest," he said as he placed the bag down.
"You know me so well," you grinned, "thanks though. Take it you don't have time to have one before practise?" You asked despite knowing he didn’t, but you couldn't help but try.
Your smile plus the way your eyelashes batted had Jan Maas willing to pay the late fee. "I suppose one wouldn't hurt," he said as he moved to sit on the edge of the reception desk as you offered him a pastry, "You should make Stroopkoeken with me one day. You'd like them,"
"What are they?" You asked, not realising how adorable Jan thought your head tilt was in your confusion.
"They're like a Carmel biscuit. My mum would make them for me growing up. Better than any Starbucks pastry," he joked, “But you have to make them from scratch to get the best experience,”
“You’ll have to teach me some time,” you smiled back and is if on queue his phone began ringing.
Jan deflated when he saw his teammates call, “I’ll need to go now. I’ll see you later,”
As he began to walk away you cringed before taking a deep breath, “Wait!” you called making him stop in his tracks. “Are you free tomorrow night? Maybe we could try making those biscuits,” you offered with an awkward smile that he found insanely endearing.
A wide grin broke onto his face, “I’d love to. It’s a date,” he said before actually turning to go to practise, leaving you a grinning mess.
-
“A baking date is perfect!”
“Nah man you should go out to a restaurant for the first date,”
“Oh, what if you take her to Sam’s place for dinner first?”
“There’s a new bar up the street you could go to after,”
“What you gonna wear bruv?”
“Make sure you actually clean up. Chicks notice that kinda stuff,”
“Oh, you should get her flowers. Birds dig flowers,”
“And make sure when you go to kiss her- “
“Woah woah guys!” Jan said, standing up from the bench and pushing past his teammates who’d essentially jumped on him after practise when they found out why he was late, “It’s just a first date. Well, I think it’s a date. I said it’s a date, but people here don’t always mean date, oh god what if she doesn’t realise it’s a date?” Jan began to panic, turning to his equally clueless mates.
They were all panicking till a loud, “Oi,” stopped them, “Don’t listen to these pricks,” Roy told him after pretending not to care the whole time, “Shower, shave, tidy up, and calm down. She’ll know it’s a date since all you two do is flirt like some snot nosed teens,” he said, rolling his eyes.
“Roy’s right,” Sam said, standing to put a hand on Jan’s shoulder, “You’ve got nothing to worry about,”
“Not what I said but alright,” Roy shrugged but this time he got ignored.
Well apart from Jamie who rolled his eyes before adding his own words of wisdom. “Yeah, mate just be yourself,”
-
The kitchen was now a mess, sugar spilt everywhere, and a pot that looked like it would never be clean again and of course a plate of perfectly made biscuits. “I don’t know how my mum made it look so easy,” Jan said.
You laughed as you reached up to wipe the flour off his forehead, “Yeah but they taste good so who cares,” you said, noticing the way his cheeks tinged pink whenever you touched him.
“They’re almost as sweet as you,” he smiled softly, brushing your hair out of your face making your own skin flush.
Enough was enough you thought, “So tell me something,” you said, Jan humming as he waited for you to ask, “Why haven’t you kissed me yet?” you nearly whispered.
“I thought you’d never ask,”

Help (Miguel O'Hara x reader)
Summary: After his sabotaged attempt to fix things, Miguel is on the run. He goes to you for a night, just until he makes a plan to make things right.
Note: Just a short something I wanted to write. This is an “x reader” story despite both of them being idiots in love who just won't be honest with each other.
Tumblr media
Your phone began to ring and vibrate on your desk, and when you looked at the screen, you saw it was your neighbor, a middle-aged man who loved to complain about everything. When you turned off the music you'd been listening to, your ears picked up another sound, a loud banging that came from your front door. Was he already there? This man was a nightmare.
“Hello, James,” you said into the phone in the sweetest tone you could manage. “Was the music too loud?”
“No, not this time. But I guess you couldn't hear that loud noise coming from the hallway. There's this creepy guy who's been trying to get you to open your door for the past five minutes. Be careful, he looks like some drug addict,” he added, sounding genuinely worried about your safety.
Who the hell could that be? “Thanks for the warning. I'll peek out to see who it could be. Thanks for the warning. Have a good evening.”
With a sigh, you picked up a pair of scissors and made your way to the door with your phone in your other hand in case you had to call the police. You cautiously looked out the peephole and the man you saw standing there made you gasp.
“Jesus, Miguel,” you said once you opened the door and faced your colleague with a worried look on your face. He looked disheveled, distressed, and generally in a bad shape. You grabbed his arm and pulled him inside, putting the items in your hands on the small table beside the door before turning back to him. “What the hell happened to you?”
Instead of answering, he went to the wall in the living room to push a few buttons and roll down the blind of the window. You didn't understand why he did that, but once they were down, he took off his sunglasses and revealed a pair of red eyes. You wondered if he had suddenly decided to wear colored contacts, but then he opened his mouth a little as if he was about to say something, and you noticed he had fangs.
“My eyes have been really sensitive to light,” he explained in the end as he sat down on the couch. “I know I've changed a lot, but it's… I don't… You're the only one I can trust right now.”
Nodding, you sat on the edge of the coffee table in front of him and took his hands in yours. “Why don't you go back to the beginning and tell me what the hell is going on with you?”
“I wanted to resign from the project I've been working on, but Stone didn't let me, instead he tricked me into taking Rapture,” he explained hurriedly.
“You're joking, right? That thing is highly–”
“Trust me, I know,” Miguel cut in as he buried his face in his hands. “I tried to fix things, but they didn't let me. Delgado found out and sabotaged the process. My DNA changed, and now here I am with fangs, talons, and light-sensitive red eyes, and other abilities I don't even fully understand yet. I think they're looking for me, I hoped you could let me hide here for a day or two.”
You sat on the couch next to him and put a hand on his back supportively. “You can stay here as long as you want,” you assured him.
“I need to do something, I can't just sit back and hope it will go away. It won't, I know that.”
He sounded sad and confused, and it broke your heart. The two of you had been close at Alchemax, with you bringing him late lunch when you heard he hadn't eaten anything all day, or with him keeping you company when you were among the last people in the building late at night.
But you barely met outside of work, you didn't even know he knew where you lived. And now here he was, asking for your help. Who were you to make him leave? He had been nothing but kind to you in the past, pushing him away now would have been the cruelest thing to do.
And in all honesty, you didn't want to hurt him. You liked him, maybe a little too much, but you weren’t about to take advantage of the situation. The best you could do now was being a supportive friend. “Just make sure you have a plan, okay?” you asked him. When he looked at you, you pulled your lower lip between your teeth. Damn, those red eyes saw right through you. “Don’t do anything in a rush. Like I said, you can stay as long as you want. Tell me how I can help and I will.”
Miguel was watching you with wide eyes, and you didn’t really understand it at first. But then he pulled you into a hug and placed a soft kiss on the crown of your head. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you,” he said quietly. “But I don’t want you to be involved in this, I’ll be gone in the morning.”
“I’ll get the spare room ready for you. But first, we order food because I’m starving,” you said with a smile as you began to stand up.
“Thank you,” Miguel said when he caught your hand and kept you back. “I don’t know how I’ll repay it. I show up out of nowhere and you help me without asking questions.”
You nodded with a warm smile. “That’s what friends are for, right?”
He gulped as he thought about your words. “Right. Friends,” he said, and you couldn’t really understand why he said it like that.
But you didn’t waste your time trying to figure it out, instead you ordered some food and went to the spare room to make his bed. Miguel seemed to be lost in his thoughts so you didn’t want to bother him, and he also seemed like he could use some sleep. The two of you quickly ate the dinner when it arrived, then you said goodnight and went to your bedroom to sleep.
By the time you woke up the next morning, Miguel was already gone. The only trace of him ever being there was a message he left for you, in which he thanked you for your help and promised to stay away until he fixed things. You knew it would be hard to be in the dark about him, but if he thought it would be for the best, you had no choice but to respect his decision.

The Chaos Squad
[Part Two]
Penny is holding a charity event at the bar, but needs help raising money. The Chaos Squad take that into their own hands, wanting to help her out and knowing exactly what to do.
They just have to convince their boys it's a good idea.
Time to put on the show of a lifetime.
Warnings: Mentions of stripping. Read at your own risk 😉

Penny puts the phone down and sighs softly. Not out of disappointment, but out of relief to finally have ended the call. The Hard Deck was a hot spot Navy bar. Hosting the fundraiser won't be a problem, but there will be lots to do in such little time.
Spicy, who was taking a few minutes out of the kitchen, was sitting at the bar. On the bar top sat a newspaper. Spicy had turned to the puzzle page and was giving them a go to pass some time. At the sound of Penny's sigh, she looks up.
"Everything alright?" She asks.
Penny smiles at her friend and colleague. She takes a seat beside Spicy.
"I've been asked to host a fundraiser here for veterans. Which is fine by me, I'm happy to help. It's just a lot of work. Lots to do in a short time."
"Oh! Sounds like fun to me. How long have you got?"
"Two weeks."
Spicy puts away her puzzle and turns her body to face Penny. She places her hands over Penny's and smiles.
"I'll give the girls a call and see if they're able to help. With a few extra hands, you'll be ready in no time."
Penny smiles.
"You don't have to do that."
"Nonsense. We will all be happy to help! The guys can help too. As far as I know, no one has a deployment coming up that soon."
Penny is grateful.
"Then we should hold a meeting and get everything sorted out. There will be a lot of work to do."
Spicy nods.
"I'll get in touch with everyone."
While Penny tends to the bar once more, Spicy makes a couple of calls. One to Bradley to tell him Penny was in need of help and to spread the word that everyone should come and pitch in. One to the girls to update them on the same news, needing all hands on the Hard Deck for this one.
When all is sorted to meet up the following morning, Spicy tells Penny. Penny thanks her with a hug and promises drinks on the house for both her and Bradley tomorrow.
The rest still have to pay. No complaints.
Spicy and Penny carry on with business for the rest of the evening and shut up when it's time to close.
The next morning Penny arrives nice and early, setting up for the meeting. There will be lots to discuss regarding hosting a fundraiser. Though, she isn't worried. There will be plenty of help.
Spicy and Rooster are the first to arrive. That isn't surprising to Penny. Spicy was willing to help out, so she half expected them to appear first. Bradley greets Penny fondly and he helps set up some tables for the meeting.
Spicy grabs a notepad and pen from behind the bar so she can take notes on the meeting. Penny puts of some soft drinks and some hot drinks, along with some snacks, to keep everyone happy. Penny looks out for her dear ones.
Just as the table is done been put together, the door opens and a few familiar faces walk in. Hangman with his arm around Cinco. Bob trailing in with them. Lucky and Fanboy smiling as they come in too.
"Make yourselves comfortable!" Penny smiles at them.
The little group all sit around the table. Fanboy pulls out the chair for Lucky and she chuckles softly as she sits down. Cinco looks at Hangman, but he's already sitting down so she pulls out her own chair. Bob sits on the other side of her.
While they help themselves to some of the goodies on the table, and Hangman catches up with Rooster, a few more faces appear.
Cupcake and Coyote are laughing about something as they come through the door. Maverick comes in and smiles when he sees Penny. He makes his way over to her. Goose and Scarlet have arrived too, having tagged along behind Maverick when he went by to pick them up earlier.
"You're holding a fundraiser?" Pete asks Penny.
"I am. As of yesterday. I could use all the help I could get," she smiles at him.
"Trust me, you'll have plenty of it. EVERYONE is coming to this meeting."
"Everyone?" Penny asks.
Mav nods. "Word got around. Everyone wants to help Penny."
Penny is touched to hear that.
Maverick smiles fondly at her and then turns to the door as another group enters. Penny turns to see more friendly faces. She makes sure there are plenty of seats for everyone.
Slider is lead by Whiskey, who is busy talking to Dragon and Venom as they come in. Cyclone and Ice follow behind. Ice greets Maverick as he nears the table, and Maverick greets him back. The two catch up. Dragon and Whiskey, still chatting, make their way to the tables and sit down. Cupcake shuffles into Coyote's lap as Dragon take a seat, leaving room for Ice to sit next to her. Rooster fetches them both something to drink while Spicy takes note of who is here so far. Meanwhile, Cyclone and Venom find their own seats. Cyclone questions quietly why he is even here to begin with, but if not for Venom, he would be at home now.
It's not too long before Phoenix, Baby and Chipper, Payback, and Wolfman all arrive.
Once Spicy has checked everyone off her list, she goes over to Penny. The room is full of chatter as everyone talks. It's not often everyone is gathered together like this.
Penny thanks Spicy and goes over to the bar. She smiles as she rings the bell and everyone falls silent, turning to her.
"Everyone is here, please, take your seats. Help yourself to anything on the table."
Everyone moves around the table and finds their seats. Slider and Ice head over to Whiskey and Dragon and claim the seats that had been saved for them. Wolfman greets Cupcake as he walks past her and takes a seat on the other side. Penny sits at the head of the table and watches every chair fill up with someone.
There's a couple of minutes of people grabbing tea, coffee, snacks. Once everyone has settled they turn to Penny.
"As you have probably heard, I am hosting a fundraiser for veterans in 2 weeks time. It's not a lot of time and I could use all the help I can get. That's why Spicy has asked you all here today," Penny explains.
Spicy stands from her seat and takes a look though her list.
"I have a list of jobs that will need doing, so everyone should be able to pitch in, but there is one big thing we want to discuss with you all."
Everyone looks at Spicy listening closely.
"Holding a buffet and offering room to dance and meet is great and all, but we need something to really bring in donations. We need something to really bring the people in and want to help."
Penny looks at Spicy.
Earlier that morning, Spicy had a private word with Penny. She had an idea and though Penny loved that idea, as it would certainly bring in donations, she was also worried about the reaction.
"I had an idea on what to do," Spicy says, looking at everyone.
"What is it?" Maverick asks, slightly concerned about the hesitation.
"Well, what if... um."
Rooster reaches out and places a comforting hand on her arm. Spicy smiles at him, but it's still uncertain. After all, even her husband didn't know of her idea.
"Go on," Penny whispers.
Spicy takes a deep breath. When she had thought of it, she was going to instantly forget about it, but the more she thought about it, the better it sounded. People would definitely come if they put on a show. Not just any show either.
"I was thinking we could have the guys strip."
Spicy just spits it out.
There is a slight pause before those words register in everyone's mind.
Then chaos.
Slider chokes on his coffee. Maverick is staring at Penny with wide eyes. Whiskey and Dragon look far too happy at the idea. Venom is already looking at Cyclone, and he just shakes his head at her with a stern look, though she doesn't seem phased. Cupcake grins at Coyote. Hangman sits there looking smug, that is until Cinco smacks him round the back of the head. Lucky is biting her lip at the thought of Fanboy stripping. Scarlet blushes as she turns her eyes to Goose. Baby smiles as she thinks about Chipper undressing.
Bradley stares at his wife in shock.
"Strip? As in-?"
"Taking off all your clothes. Yeah," Spicy smiles at him awkwardly.
Maverick stands up.
"Hold on a second!"
Penny turns to him.
"Pete, it's for a good cause. You'd all do it together, so no one is singled out. It would just be a bit of fun for a few songs and everyone will get a good laugh out of it."
Pete chuckles softly.
"Penny, you're asking respected pilots of the Navy to get up and take their clothes off in front of a crowd of people."
"For a good cause," she states again.
Whiskey turns her sight to Slider. "You are definitely stripping for me. Be it here or at home," she grins.
Ron chuckles after cleaning up his coffee and leans close to her. "Count on it, babe."
Hangman stands up from the table and walks over to the bar. The coffee isn't cutting it any more, and he doesn't care if it's not noon yet. He grabs some beers from behind the bar and opens them, holding them up.
"I think it's a great idea!"
Cinco turns in her seat to look at him. "Of course you do! You like parading around like a peacock anyway. It's just this way you'll be getting your cock out in front of everyone!"
Slider chokes on air as he grins the table upon hearing Cinco's words. Bob is blushing in his seat, while Cupcakes cracks up laughing. Her sides hurt as she gasps for air. Coyote has to pat her on the back.
Dragon glances at Hangman over her shoulder. "Don't worry though, I doubt many people will be looking at you."
"Ha. Ha," Jake rolls his eyes and hands out the beers to some of the guys.
"Well, I suppose they'll bring in money," Maverick says, looking at the younger men at the table.
Penny looks at him confused.
"I'm sure you will too, you're pretty fit under that uniform, Captain."
Maverick has to do a double take at Penny to realise she's talking to him.
"Me?"
Penny nods.
Mav turns around to make eye contact with Dragon.
"What are you looking at me for?" She asks. "You'd all have to do it!"
Maverick goes to argue, but he catches Ice's gaze from behind Dragon. Ice is staring at him with a stern look, eyes unblinking, mouth drawn into a thin line.
"Me?" Maverick asks again. Both Ice and Dragon just nod. "What about him?" Mav asks, nodding at Ice.
Ice scoffs slightly. Dragon turns her head slightly to him. His expression falls when he sees the stern look his wife is giving him.
"Me too?"
"All. Of. You."
Ice and Mav now share a look as they realise they're trapped in this situation.
Fanboy leans back in his chair with a grin on his face. He's actually quite taken to the idea. It would be a bit of fun for one night, and they would be helping Penny out.
"What is it?" Lucky asks him.
"I'm game," he replies.
Lucky grins. "Really?"
Fanboy grin back and leans across to be a little closer to her face.
"For you, anything. Just keep your eyes on me," he says.
Lucky chuckles softly.
Scarlet, unable to shake the thought of Goose taking his clothes off in a routine, makes her way to the bar. She picks up one of the bottles and tries to distract herself by making a cocktail. Penny is busy arguing with Maverick, so she doesn't notice. Goose follows Scarlet over to the bar and leans against it.
"You okay?" He asks.
"Mmhm," she nods her head.
Goose chuckled as her sees her face tinted pink. He knows exactly what she's thinking about.
"I won't do it if you don't want me to."
Scarlet shakes her head quickly.
"It's not that I don't want you to do it. Not like I haven't seen you naked before," she chuckles. "It's just that there will be other people there. I might stare..."
Nick grins as he watches her.
"Stare all you want, honey. I'll only be looking at you anyway."
Scarlet chuckles and attempts to impress him with her bar skills.... of which she has none. The bottle falls from her hand falls to the floor, smashing and making a mess. Scarlet stares at the mess and Goose laughs.
"You're paying for that!" Penny calls out.
Goose gingerly places some dollars on the bar and helps Scarlet scoot away from the mess.
Maverick smiles at her.
"I know how to do that you know. I'll teach some time."
Cupcake runs her hands up Javy's chest as she on his lap. She smiles at him with a big grin, eyes sparkling at the thought of seeing him strip for her in a room full of people.
"You'll do it, won't you?" He asks.
Javy grins.
"Sounds like fun to me. If Jake is game, so am I."
Cupcake grins a little more. She's practically drooling at the thought.
Ice stands next to Dragon while she grabs some snacks.
"You're okay with this?" He asks, needing a little reassurance that she's onboard with this idea.
"Yeah," she looks up at him. "If you don't want to do it, you don't have to. I'm never going to ask you to do something you don't want to," she smiles softly at him.
Ice smiles as he leans in a little closer.
"I'll do it. I'll do it for you. It's just there will be other people in the room staring," he whispers.
Dragon smiles as she places a hand on his chest.
"They can stare. You'll be coming home with me anyway. I get the most out of this," she chuckles.
Ice kisses her.
Hangman throws his arm around Cinco and grins. So far he is the most taken with the idea of a strip show.
"Don't look so happy about it," Cinco says, smiling.
"What?" He chuckles. "I think it's a fabulous idea. It will just be a bit of fun to raise some money. If we are going to do this, we might as well enjoy it. Hey! You girls should join us. One big strip show."
Cinco smacks him round the back of the head again.
Spicy faces the group.
"So, is everyone onboard?" She asks.
A few glances are shared around the room, but ultimately everyone agrees. Some nod, some verbally agree, and some just sit there grinning.
"If anyone wants out, say so now." Spicy offers them an out, just in case.
No one speaks up.
Spicy smiles.
"So, that's the main event sorted. We'll work out the details later. Other things we'll need is, help in the kitchen, people to help decorate the bar for the fundraiser, music, and Penny will need to do a speech as host."
Penny nods.
"We can help in the kitchen," Whiskey offers.
Dragon nods from beside her.
Spicy turns to Rooster.
"Will you play the piano as well?" She asks, giving him an innocent look as of she didn't come up with stripping idea herself earlier.
Bradley sighs softly. He can't resist that look his wife gives him.
"Sure thing, sweetheart."
Spicy smiles triumphantly and notes that down for the schedule.
"Right, I think we have everything sorted. Everyone has mine and Penny's number. Contact for us anything. Remember, we only have 2 weeks to get this all done!"
Everyone nods.
Penny thanks everyone and tells them they can help themselves to anything left on the table. She parts from the group, Maverick follows her.
Spicy dismissed the meeting and stands with Rooster.
No one really departs yet.
Maverick follows Penny into the back questioning the stripping idea. Wolfman whistles as he adjusts his hat and leans back in his chair. Slider smile smugly as he wiggles his eyebrows at Whiskey. Hangman attempts to do the same to Cinco, but she just rolls her eyes with a smile. Goose and Scarlet make their leave quietly, all the while he's whispering in her ear making her blush. Ice leans into Dragon's side and makes her smile. She makes a teasing comment about him stripping and he chuckles softly. Fanboy is already practicing is moved on a chair next to Lucky. She doesn't know if she wants to laugh or scream as the moves he's making.
Overall, the response to the idea was pretty good. Everyone will have to work hard to make this the best damn show anyone has ever seen, but there is no doubt in Penny's mind that they'll do it.
The fundraiser will be a success!

Answering: Sexuality, Marriage, Children, Drugs.
One. Sexuality: They're all bi.
Marc: Got some real internalized biphobia. Pre-Layla, men were mostly because he was Around Lots of Men. He had crushes but there wasn't a lot of Romance. And he's as usual oblivious to people crushing on him. Lots of fucking tho.
Steven: Likes men and women. He kinda treats them both the same. Gentle, romantic, but he's also so focused on his inner world, he misses cues.
Jake: He's very good at reading people. He loves to hang out with people. Dance. Enjoy the moment, whether it's platonic or something different. Sex is enjoyable to him, though his libido adapts to whatever scale his partner is on.
Six. Marriage: WIFE WIFE WIFE WIFE WI-
Marc and Jake did sleep around a lot in the Pre-Layla days. Port in any storm. Steven did have a few days and makeout sessions. a former girlfriend sabatoged him from anything more. So Layla was Steven's first (and Marc was Layla's).
If we have to generalize...
Marc took a long time to say "I love you." He still uses it sparingly. One can see his love through his hands clenched in protection, laced with Layla's, or in building.
Steven says it a lot. Either the three words in English, Arabic, French. Or in their favorite quotes.
Jake will use one bazillion terms of endearment, clever hand, and gift giving.
Layla and the System's marriage is incredibly strong. They've had great struggles and will continue to face it together. Whether or not Marc feels like they can. It's a difficult thing, loving someone who does not see the good in himself. To Marc, Steven and Jake are the good parts of him. At several points, he feels like he should disappear and nothing would be lost.
Of course, that's not true. Layla and Marc were together first. She's stuck with him through thick and thin. They navigate white people bs, antisemitism, racism, Khonshu's manipulations, and Marc's own mistakes. Yknow, being part of the mercenary group responsible for killing Layla's father and his colleagues. Marc did try to save them. Yet, to Marc, it's like he pulled the trigger himself.
Steven's memory is incredibly dicey. When his narrative is thrown off by waves of grief and trauma, his recent memories are tossed out. It's not a deliberate thing. He is distraught every time that he can forget the best parts of his life (such as Layla when Marc's father passed). Like, of course his mother is alive, of course his father is alive. They're both very busy people.
Layla appreciates the interests Steven is interested in and vis versa. They have in-depth, romantic conversations about their favorite poets, artists, and yknow. Archeology. He loves spending time with her. Getting fancy and going out on the town. Staying in and enjoying each other's company. While people making comments about him aren't on his radar (being a vegan, for example), Layla definitely picks up on that and reads em for filth.
Our favorite legend Jake doesn't need being called in (Marc) or particulars (Steven). He's everyone's best guy. Friendly, charming, flexible. He's the one Layla can lean on, speak her mind to.
The System and Layla open the Midnight Mission together. It's the biggest sign of their love and lifetime project. They support their community by fist and by mutual aid.
Uh. Anyway.
Seven. Children:
The System and Layla have 2 older kids that are not of their blood.
Unlike 616, the System and Layla remain together, married, and raise their Beam. Like everything else, they struggle with conceiving. (Thanks Khonshu). Layla had an extremely difficult pregnancy. Marc was focused, trying to keep her and the baby alive. So!
Marc fucking struggles with baby Beam. He goes dormant. Steven and Jake take to fatherhood well. Steven is an educator and is very focused on Beam's milestones and health. Jake is used to helping out with cousins and Gena's boys.
Once Marc gets his head out of his head, he does enjoy fatherhood. Beyond grateful he has a wife and daughter. He loves spending time with Beam. Usually he's quiet.
As in the rest of their lives, Layla and the system are a team!
Nine. Drugs.
Steven and Jake do not have Substance Use Disorder. Both (and Marc) enjoy cigarettes, cannabis, and alcohol in social situations. Cannabis does help with some of their physical and mental health.
Marc does have SUD from using alcohol, Vicodin, and oxycodone to self-medicate chronic pain and trauma (losing Layla to The Snap is the straw that broke the camel's back). Khonshu does heal the body and handle the physical effects. But it does take Marc a long time to actually get treatment from not the bird god.

The beach case
Find chapter 21 on AO3.
I want to dedicate this chapter to @ahtohallan-calling. I recently read your fabulous work "Don't read the last page" (I highly recommend it to everyone), and I loved it, so I didn't want to miss the opportunity to give a little sign to her movie star Anna.
Thanks for that great story!
(And to @annaofthenorthernlights for recommending it to me 😚)
Chapter 21
“Do you think tomorrow will be our last day of work?”
Kristoff answered my apocalyptic question with a shrug of uncertainty.
“I think we'll do whatever to avoid it,” he added as he gently stroked the back of my hand with his thumb.
“Whatever?”
“Well, almost whatever. I'm not going away from you.”
“Don't worry. If I get fired, I will become a movie star, get rich, and start my own publishing company.”
“Doesn't sound ambitious at all.”
“No more ambitious than wanting to have you, and I've done it.”
“I'll be preparing the tailcoat for the awards ceremonies and stuff, then.”
“You should.”
The sea was calm, and, for some mysterious reason, despite the tricky moment, my heart was too. Until Kristoff’s cell phone rang bringing my liver up to my ears.
“It's a message from Sam. She's spoken with Yelena. She says that we got the morning off tomorrow and that we must show up again in the director's office at three in the afternoon.”
“What for?” I asked knowing perfectly the answer.
“It seems that our time to think about it ends at that moment.”
“Seriously, what do you think we should do?”
“I will look for another job. I've done it before and can do it again.”
“But I don't… I'm not going to stay there without you. We both have the same responsibility in this.”
“Then get behind your acting career,” he said with a playful smirk just before I elbowed his ribs.
“Ow! Why do you always hit me when we are on the beach?!”
“I have to take advantage now, when I am rich and famous I won't be able to do it in public.”
“Speaking of doing things in public… Do you think I can give you our first kiss without fearing that someone is seeing us together?”
“You kissed me just a moment ago.”
“Okay, and it was necessary for you to ruin the magic?”
“Fine, I said nothing. I want my kiss.”
“I knew that all this chaos had to have a good side.”
I threw myself on him making him fall on his back in the sand and I kissed his lips with enthusiasm and force. I was terrified of losing my job, but there was no job in the world that made losing those lips worth it.
The next morning we calmly woke up and took our time. After all, we still had a few hours to go before we had to go to our potential last day of work.
We were already finishing breakfast when Kristoff's phone started ringing again.
“It’s Yelena.”
“Yelena?! Pick it up!!”
Kristoff took a deep breath, straightened his back as if he were getting defensive, and pressed the hands-free button.
“Yes? Kristoff on the phone,” he replied with a tone as serene as he could give.
“Get your ass here right now and put order between your team, Bjorgman!”
“Excuse me?”
“I want you and Anna to come to my office as quickly as possible. I'm calling her now from the other line too.”
Indeed, my phone started ringing too.
“I knew it…” Yelena growled directly hanging up the call to my cell. “I want you here now, do you both understand?”
“Yes, Yelena…” we both answered indecisively just before hearing her hang up with a huff.
“Ehrm… I think we should get dressed…” Kristoff said dropping the cell phone with slightly trembling hands.
“Yes, let's get this over.”
In a matter of twenty minutes, we both walked into the magazine building, finally without the need to pretend a chance meeting, and we were met with the knowing smiles of many of our colleagues and with some looks of anger and disappointment from the succubus club.
“I told you! Now they're going to come after me…!”
“Who is going to go after you?”
“How can you not notice?!”
“What do I have to notice?”
“Nevermind… You’reokay this way.”
We both walked the corridors until we reached the door of Yelena's office.
“You ready?”
“Never.”
Kristoff and I shared a smile and nodded just before entering. It was the moment of the truth.
“Here we are, Yelena, what hap…?”
But Yelena didn't let him finish his sentence.
“Is it that you have resolved to sink my magazine?!”
“What?”
“What are you talking about, Yelena?” I asked showing myself as firm as I could in the face of that intimidating woman.
“What am I supposed to do with this?!”
Yelena grabbed a mountain of letters from her desk and threw them at us unceremoniously.
“What are these?” Kristoff asked, patiently picking them up off the floor as I opened the one that my face had abruptly stopped.
“No!” I gasped realizing what I had in hand. “Why do you have a resignation letter from Honeymaren?!”
“Resignation?” Kristoff asked not understanding.
“Not just hers. Absolutely the entire team under Kristoff's command has resigned from their job this morning.”
“What?! It can’t be!” he exclaimed clearly worried. “There must be a mistake!”
“There is no mistake, it's blackmail! They have all comehere saying that they do not want to work in a family magazine that does not take care of its workers as the family they are.”
“I am sure they are not serious,” I said trying to excuse my crazy and incredibly wonderful coworkers.
“They are serious, and so am I.”
We all looked toward the door following the voice that had just interrupted our talk and we came face to face with a smirking Sam. I knew that smirk. It was the same one I saw on her face the night we got rid of Hans… And, behind her, there were all my companions with a smile from ear to ear.
“Samantha, what are you doing here?” Yelena asked rubbing her temples.
“Submit my resignation, of course.”
“You must be kidding…” Yelena and Kristoff said at the same time.
“Well, unless you fire me sooner for spreading the news through the magazine. I could use the severance money, you know?”
“I'm not firing you, Samantha. You are the most efficient worker I have ever had. And I'm not going to accept your resignations either,” she said addressing the entire troop waiting behind Sam.
“A pity that you have no alternative,” Olaf said entering the office and sitting down cheekily on Yelena's desk. “Unless you agree to keep these two in their jobs, obviously. So, maybe, in addition to saving their jobs, you will save your magazine.”
“I'm not going to agree to your blackmail. It would be sad, but I can find a replacement for you.”
“Are you sure?” Sam asked crossed arms. “I bet it's not going to be easy to find a team as competent as this one, but… most of all, I doubt that you can do it until you find someone willing to sacrifice most of their free time to carry out the work I do.”
Yelena bit her lip feeling cornered and I realized that I couldn't handle it anymore.
“I…” I said breaking the tense silence that was flooding the room. “I love this magazine. I love writing my section, but not only that. I adore the values that it transmits and I adore the fabulous team that carries it out. And I would never forgive myself if all that went wrong because of me. I beg you guys, do not do this.” Tears of grief and excitement began to flow from my eyes and Kristoff came over to me and tenderly stroked my back. “I… I quit my job. Don't worry about me, I have a plan B.”
A chorus of various protests was heard until Kristoff broke it with his laugh probably remembering what my impossible plan B was. Then, he took my hand and spoke as well.
“I resign too.”
“What?! No!” I exclaimed pulling his arm.
Kristoff didn't look at me, he just squeezed my hand tightly and fixed his gaze on Yelena.
“I believed that I started to work in a magazine that looked for family values, among which, if I have not misunderstood, love is an essential element. I like my job, but I won't give up my own family for it,” he said slightly raising my hand with his and filling my soul with his words. “I can find another job, but I could not find another woman like Anna. So, my last order before my resign,” he said, turning to his team. “is that you withdraw all your resignations.”
“You can't give me orders,” Sam argued amid the new commotion that had been built.
“No, I can only beg you as a friend.”
“That's playing dirty, blondie.”
“I think it's become quite clear that I am tired of playing fair.”
Sam stared defiantly at Kristoff until Mattias walked over to Yelena and prepared her chair for her to sit on. Yelena sat down and looked at all of us carefully, in absolute silence, for a long time. Finally, she looked up to meet Mattias's understanding gaze and nodded.
“You are going to be my ruin.”

Part 6: Girls’ Night
Soft lofi beats play softly in the background. Steam in the air gives the bathroom lights a glowing halo around each lightbulb. Bathtub filled with hot water, a thick layer of bubbles on top. Phone resting in one hand as Y/n relaxed in her bath, unwinding for the evening.
With a sigh, she sunk further into the tub, water splashing her chest. Another night that Mizuki’s plans were canceled. Another night Y/n would likely be the backup plan. Not that she minded being second choice. Mizuki is a major social butterfly, more than Y/n can handle on her own all of the time. So she welcomed not being the first choice every time.
She rested her head back and closed her eyes, hand with the phone hanging over the edge of the tub. Her friend’s night may need to be rescued, but it's not like it's an emergency or anything. She could take some time to enjoy her bubble bath first, right?
Sudden ringing jerked her from her relaxed state.
Or not..
Glancing at her phone she could see Mizuki was trying to video call her. With a groan she denied the call and sat up, quickly texting before her friend could call again.
>> To ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “not now in the bath”
>> From ‘My Best Bitch <3’: “so?”
Her phone started ringing again and with another groan Y/n shifted lower into the tub once more, fishing bubbles to her chest before answering the call. With a tap, Mizuki was now looking right at her through the screen. “Can’t a girl enjoy her bath?”
“Don't sound so grumpy! Anyway, like I was saying, A-“
Checking in the little box in the corner that displayed her own face, she made sure she was covered enough.
“Are you even listening? Ugh, you’re acting like I’ve never seen you naked before.” The aggravated woman snarled through her screen.
“Sorry, sorry! And yes, he’s at the gym with Sakusa tonight. I already knew that.”
“But our plans!” The video shook as Mizuki moved about.
“No, your plans, Mizu’. Girl, I love you to death, but making plans with someone’s gotta go both ways. He didn't even know about your plans before he planned to go with ‘Kusa, did he?” She spoke calm but sternly. “I can’t say that’s his fault, dove.”
Mizuki was frowning, “Sigh! I guess you’re right, okay? But I was really hoping we could have gone out tonight, but he’s too busy with Sakusa.” Her frown faded to curiosity. “Say.. Do you think there’s anything go-”
“Mizu’!”
“Yeah yeah. They just spend a lot of time together is all.”
“They’re friends, colleagues, and neighbors and only one of them has a car. Of course they're together a lot. Besides, you spend every day with someone and yet you’re single, right?  That doesn’t mean anything.” She slipped further into the bath, knees poking out of the water and popping some bubbles with her free hand.
“Unfortunately, I am single! Otherwise I’d be spending my time with my date!”
“Uh huh,” emotionless she brought her attention back to her friend.
“Anyway..” Mizuki squinted at her. “How’s your love life going, huh? Pretty sure you’re married to your work.” She wiggled her eyebrows. “Have any cute guys or gals around.”
“Mizuki,” she whined.
“What? We can’t all four be lonely and starving for intimacy,” she sang, batting her eyelashes.
“I’m not sure that any of us could possibly be lonely as much as we are around each other,” she said dryly, earning a whine from her friend. “And as far as I know, you’re the only one searching for.. intimacy.”
“Uh huh. Didn’t you spend your time with someone like two nights ago? Or did you just forget to let Sakusa know when you got home.”
Y/n looked away from her phone as if she was messing with something off screen so Mizuki didn't see her blush.
I messaged ‘Kusa that morn-.
Oh. Right.
“Mhmm. So who is this guy that you left me all alone for in my time of need?”
“You weren't alone,” she eyed her friend.
“I may as well have been without my sweet, dear Y/n.”
She tapped the side of the tub in annoyance. “So are you coming over or not?”
“Duh, I’m on my way already. Have you even been paying attention? I’ll see you in five!” She flashed her hand to the screen displaying five fingers.
“What!” Y/n lurched forward.
She cackles loudly. “So much not seeing you naked.”
Covering her chest with her available arm, she stood and pulled her phone close to her face. Scowling at the realization, “Really, Mizuki?!”
Tumblr media
Throwing on shorts and a baggy sweater just in time for Mizuki to bang on the front door, Y/n raced over and let her in. She quickly locks the door again before rushing back to her bedroom. “Come on, Mizu’.”
“Yeah, I’m coming.” She chased after Y/n after removing her shoes and coat.
Mizuki walked in the bedroom to find her friend laying across her bed. And of course she flopped down beside her. “Can we get takeout?”
“You just got here!”
She whined, “But Y/n! You don't want to go out and I was hoping to go out to eat!”
“Ugh, okay.” She rolled to her side. “You order the takeout and pick something to watch, okay?”
“Okay! I have the app for that yummy noodle place down the road.”
“Cool. I just hate calling places.” She rolled again, this time onto her stomach and locked a leg around one of Mizuki’s.
Mizuki laughed. “Girl, don't you call places for work?”
“Yeah, but that’s different.”
“I don't see how ordering food over the phone is worse than that.” She tossed her phone next to Y/n’s head. “Put what you want on there.”
She orders from that noodle place enough to enter her order in a few swift clicks. “Here.” She handed the phone back then unhooked her leg from Mizuki and crawled across the bed to get her own phone.
“Aight, it's in!”
There was a sudden blaring for all of two seconds. “Oh look, if it isn’t your bestie.” She brought the phone to her ear, “Hey, shithead.. What?”
At least she didn't put him on speaker. Together they were always so loud.
Unlocking her own phone, she opened her messages.
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “you ratted me out to MIZUKI??”
A text from Iwaizumi popped up before Sakusa had even read her message. So she went back and forth between the two chats to talk to each of them.
>> From ‘zumi’: “Oikawa is on the plane. Idk if you planned to still talk to him but there's a major time distance where he lives. Just a heads up.”
>> From ‘zumi’: “Sorry if he freaked you out earlier”
>> From ‘zumi’: “He can be loud”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “Punishment for not letting me know that you didn't get murdered.”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “I did text you yesterday!”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “Not when you got home.”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “I did forget.. But to be fair I wasn’t home until almost noon”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “I’m sure Mizuki is asking plenty of questions and loving that.”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “I just like to know you’re safe when you start check-in texts like that. It’s not like I care what you do.”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’)’: “Well as long as you aren’t being careless on your runs again.”
Internally moaning, she looked over her shoulder. Mizuki was still on the phone walking laps around the room.
>> To ‘zumi’: “no no he’s great! And thanks for the heads up. Let me know when he's back safe?”
>> To ‘zumi’: “Sorry to run out i really did need to get going and i wanted to let you have time with Oikawa before he left”
Suddenly, Mizuki jumped onto the bed. “So anyway. What were we talking about?”
“Uhh.. I don’t know.” Y/n kicked at her playfully. “How long until the food is here?”
>> From ‘zumi’: “Will do”
>> To ‘zumi’: “maybe I’ll see you again”
Mizuki grabbed her legs to avoid getting hit. “It’ll be quick. Who ya texting?”
“Just Sakusa,” she lied.
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “So here’s the thing.”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “I didnt get spotted or anything! I’ve learned my lesson”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “That will never happen again!”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “But the guy I met at the bar may have been the guy that might have spotted me that night I was with you.”
Mizuki moaned, “Why’d he steal my dinner buddy?”
She snorted. “Maybe you should ask him.”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “Y/n what the hell”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “It’s fine!”
She clapped. “Done. Maybe he’ll feel bad and let me go next time.”
“You? At the gym?” She laughed.
Mizuki threw a pillow which whacked the back of Y/n’s head and bounced to the floor. They both laughed. “Yeah, you’re right. I don't wanna work out or be around some stinky guys.” She got up and walked up to the window, picking up the pillow and tossing it back on the bed. “Man, I really need to move. My window just faces a parking garage. Boring!”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “Is it?”
>> From ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “Is it still a ‘maybe’ seen you?”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa): “I think it’s fine.”
“Girl, you have the money. When’s your lease up?”
>> From ‘zumi’: “Hopefully not by accident next time.”
Oh?
“Ugh! Not for like six more months,” Mizuki complained.
“Well, I can help keep an eye out for available units here. But why don’t you make a list of places you think you’d like.”
“Yeah, that sounds real fun.”
“Funner than waking up to the slight of a parking garage?”
“Oh you ass!” She balled up a shirt from the floor to chuck at Y/n, but a knock at the front door caught her attention. “Food is here! I’ll go get it.”
“Thank you, Mizu’.”
>> To ‘Emergency Contact (‘Kusa’): “It’s fine. I was just keeping an eye on him is all.”
>> From ‘zumi’: “Do you go to the park during daylight hours or is that strictly an after hours thing for you?”
“Hey girly!” Mizuki popped her head through the doorway. “I've got the goods and Netflix is ready. Come on!”
Y/n rolled out of bed. “Alright, alright. Let’s get this girls’ night started, yeah?”
>> To ‘zumi’: “depends..”
>> To ‘zumi’: “are you asking to go with me next time?”

You finally had finished your board meeting and were heading out of the office building with your co-workers to retire to your humble abode.
"It's 7:37 pm ladies and gentlemen, and we are finally free for the night.", said Sarah, one of your close colleagues.
"Aaaand we're leaving 2 hours later than the designated office hours. This is over time!", exclaimed Kyunghwan, your senior, and sales manager. It was totally unusual but justified for everyone to feel this way. After such a heated discussion about the proposals everyone was exhausted and acted dramatically. Even though they were your seniors, almost everybody still treated each other without the honorifics outside of work; albeit they could seem eccentric given the time and place. You yourself had experienced it first hand and maybe tonight had just a little bit more in store for you.
" Everyone, I totally understand how you must feel.....", stated Mr. Yoon-ho, the team director. "We, are not getting paid enough. Let's go to a restaurant and give ourselves a well deserved treat. The person who is wearing blue today will be the ones to pay up!", came his suggestion.
Hearing his sudden offer, each person constituting the 8 people group cheered and hooted but started checking their dress colours as the realization hit in. 'Oh thank god, I'm wearing anything but blue today' , everyone thought simultaneously.
However everyone's eyes landed on you as you were the only one wearing a turquoise blue ruffle shirt with beige coloured cigarette pants. And everybody knew exactly where that suggestion in the director's mind had come up.
' Oh lord, it's Yeseul again.'
Firstly, Yoon-ho was a huge-ass spend-thrift. Even if he knows he wont eat or use something, he would still spend money on it. Especially when it's someone else's money.
And secondly, he despised you. You and your intelligence. And the fact that you were humble made it even worse for him.
Atleast one can hate on arrogant people for their arrogance. As for humble people, we can't even hate them for anything, much less like. Tch.
Sarah, concerned for you asked if you were okay with that. Not that you really had a choice in the first place.
But you had stopped listening-in to their conversation, midway. Because your eyes were solely fixated on this unexpected visitor, standing right across the road, leaning against his car and looking right at you.
Im Jaebeom, your soon-to-be fiancè, in all his glory was right in front of you and you had no idea what he was doing there.
"Sarah, I'll see you later."
Coming to your senses after 3.57 seconds, you waved back at him and quickly crossed the road to reach him.
" Yeseul, hey" started Jaebeom.
"Uh, hi! I didn't know you were here. How have you been?", unsure, you asked him.
"I've been good. I got off work early today so I decided to pick you up like a responsible boyfriend", smirked Jaebeom.
He had his hands in his pant pockets the whole time, was wearing a suit with his hair gelled up and looked like the epitome of a perfectly successful banker.
"How long had you been waiting?", you questioned. "Not too long, about 20 minutes? .... Yeah. Don't worry though, I was busy on my phone." He lied. He knew you'd feel even worse about the truth because in reality he had been waiting for you since two hours thirty-seven minutes and sixteen seconds.
But even then you insisted, " Now this makes me look really bad. You didn't have to come all the way here. Why didn't you call me?"
"I wanted to be here", he replied cheekily and pat your head. "And it was a good surprise, wasn't it?"
(Sighing) "what if I already went home or I was staying in late?"
"Well then lets just say I got lucky" he smiled.
You were about to say something further, but he cut you in, " By the way, your...... colleagues, they seem... expectant?" Looking back at them you see them all wide-eyed and smiley-faces as if they just didn't come out of an exhausting office day. Realizing their expressions , you turned and asked Jaebeom, " oh, um, Jaebeom-shi, you're not too tired, right? Have you eaten something?"
"No, not really, why?"
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
" HA, HA, HA, HA, HA! WHAT A NIGHT MAN, WHOO!!" roared a drunk Mr. Yoon. "Wow, Yeseul, you have such a nice boyfriend, he's a keeper, hahahaha. Everyone! say, 'THANKYOU IM JAEBEOM-SSI!'.
Bashfully, everyone complied, giving you sorry smiles and yet enjoying the food and drinks in front of them as if it was their first time eating.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Since the time the talks of you about to being engaged rounded up in the halls of your office, everybody had been eager and curious to meet this Mr. Perfect who they had only seen in photos. Everyday not only the women but also your male coworkers would come over at your desk asking you to set up a get together with him.
They all wanted to know who this mysterious person was, taking a liking for someone as stoic as you. They never imagined you being in a relationship with anyone- always holding the title of 'Fashion Femme Fatale'.
So now here you were- with Jaebeom- and a gang of 8 people who were doing nothing but wasting Jaebeom's hard earned money.
Yes, he offered to pay up in your stead.
Ah! So chic!
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
You were getting really uncomfortable because you felt bad for Jaebeom who was nothing but sweet to everyone all this time. You were barely starting off in a relationship and now he had to witness all of ....... this.
You wanted to just take your bag and run away with him.
"Hmm, Yeseul , how long has it been since you guys started dating?" Asked Yoon-ho.
Huh?
" uh, it's been about...... 2 months?" you replied looking at Jaebeom for confirmation. After getting his nod of approval you continued, "why do you ask though, sunbae-nim?"
"Ah! I didn't get to congratulate you. First of all....... let me pour you a drink!"
"What, out of nowhere?"you retaliated.
"Ahem! I'm your superior."he countered. "You didn't even touch anything yet, Drink~ bottoms up~~".
In the midst of his coercions, you contemplated- 'Why... do I get intimidated by Yoon-ho ssi? .... Soju's too strong ...... Jaebeom won't be able to drive if he drinks it.... house is far tooo. *sighs* it's over for me if I get drunk and act like an idiot in front of them.... hhnnngg. But if I refuse, the mood will get cold.... last time I was fine for the first few drinks, right?-"
"Give it to me."interceded Jaebeom.
"Huh?"
Turning towards the crowd, he stated, "Yeseul's bad with alcohol. I'll drink for her."
"Ooo~ hahahaha~~"
"playing the knight for your girlfriend ? ~~ "
"so cool!! Whoa~"
Sighing you looked at him, starting to get a little worried. But suddenly everyone chimed in- "still! We're not satisfied with one drink!"
"Let's get Yeseul-ah drunk~!"
"Me too!"
"You cant resist our drink! We're your superiors!"
"Aah~ now, let's not push her too hard. Take it slow. Slow~" said Yoon-ho, giving you his ever so sweet smile.
'It is you I hate the most!' You thought.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
"Aah~ Jaebeom-ssi drank them all"
"~Food is great here!"
"Heard this is the hidden place for gourmets."
After a while things seemed to settle down, your thoughts again wandered towards Jaebeom-
'He keeps on tapping his fingers and feet.... all the while maintaining his smile. I wonder if he's getting bothered by them..... ' -
"Hey~ she cant take her eyes off her BOYFRIEND!" chirped Yujin( colleague, same age as you). Following suit everyone got started off- "He's good looking right?" " you didn't even glance at the others ~" "what ? No, when did I.. " you tried to defend yourself. Sarah who was sitting next to you all this time whispered, "don't take them too seriously 'seul- ah, they're only teasing you, and you know everyone is as good as drunk."
Suddenly Kyunghwan, who was sitting opposite to you, waiting for the right opportunity slipped in~ " You can take mild Brandy right?"
"Ah yes, I can"
"NO." Jaebeom interceded. Again.
He took the glass from his hand and drank it.
"Aish intercepting it all, gosh!"he exclaimed.
But leaving no stone unturned, he kept pressing, "hey! You guys are a couple, atleast show us a kiss!" And everyone started hooted demanding such a public display of affection.
Hearing this, your ears flared up, " oof, what's with you all? Dont you think it's too much? ..... please stop it already. I dont really want to do it. ........Why do we have to do it in front of you?"
Now this... was just too much. Right when you were about to give them a piece of your mind-
"Okay."Jaebeom announced.
" ...... "
" ....... "
" ....... "
What.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
The truth is that both of you had never really kissed before, the closest form of affection you were able to showcase for now was simply a hug, that too only when you were alone. You had no idea what went through his mind when he agreed to everyone's plea. Was he finally drunk? You had never seen him drunk before, all though a few of his friends that you had met told you he had a strong temperance. Maybe this was okay for him?.... Did he probably hear it wrong? Not being able to make head or tail of the situation you questioned him, "Jaebeom-"
"You....... and you." Cutting you off, said person pointed at Kyunghwan and then at Yujin.
"If you two do it, we'll do it too. In fact, it doesn't matter if any other two do it either." explained Jaebeom with a smile.
And then you realised what he was actually doing.
"Don't want to, right?..... I stink of alcohol and 'seul said she doesn't want it. Moreover, it won't look good, if a lady's colleagues at work would act like this, much less her seniors."
"Uh. . . . " a flustered Yujin tried to speak.
" Well I wasn't going to force her to do that" resigned Kyunghwan with a pout.
"Yeah let's just forget about it, okay guys? ", Sarah spoke.
"Wow~ get married already Yeseul, reqally" Said Yoon-ho.
"Such a perfect couple. Tch" mumbled Yujin.
However, when everyone went back to their own, Kyunghwan caught Jaebeom giving him a side glance with a poker face who then turned to look at you. Even though such a gesture unnerved him, the alcohol immediately brushed off that feeling.
You on the other hand were getting more and more worried about Jaebeom, you lost count of how many glasses he must've had on your account, and tried one more time to check up on him- " are you alright? You've been really drinking a lot." But he only gave you a smile in return.
(Sighing) 'He drank way too mu-' *plop*
His head suddenly on your shoulder now, he spoke, " I want to rest."
Looking at you Sarah whispered," He must be tired, you should go home now, don't worry, I'll take care of it here."
"Okay. Jaebeom-ssi ....... Jaebeom? Let's go home now, ok?" You asked.
"Seul."
"Yes?"
"My head aches."
"What? Headache?"
"Its too noisy here..... my head aches.....". Alarmed by this sight you wondered ' 'why's he like this ? Since the start he seemed a bit off. Is his head hurting from being drunk? This was such a bad idea."
You see him gently lift his head up and stare at his hands. Or the table. Or the plate? You see jaebeom blink.
"..."
And he blinked again.
'Ohmygod,he's definitely drunk.'
" uhh, hey- let's go get some fresh air, okay?" You asked holding him by the shoulders. You never witnessed something like this before. But he just stared at you.
'Answer me already.' You thought. Helping him stand up you took your bag, "okay, Sarah, we'll be leaving now, I'll catch you tomorrow, take care!"
"Yeah, you too, goodnight~" returned Sarah.
Once outside you tried to remember where the car was, since the restaurant didn't have a parking lot. You walked a few meters and then stopped. Due to him leaning on you, your back and neck hurt a little, so you decided to sit on the nearby bench. 'Ah, I'm out of strength.'
You both just sat next to each other like that for a while and then you asked him where the car was kept.
But he just smiled at you.
Heaving a sigh, you stood up and started searching around. "Just sit here, and dont move Jaebeom- ssi, I'll be right back." He saw your retreating figure as you left.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
After about 10 min you find the car at the backside of the building and return to where Jaebeon was.
"I found the car, give me the keys and I'll drop you off home" you said.
"Yeseul."
"Yes?"
He smiled. Again.
"Seems like you won't get up for a while." So you sat down. Did he even listen to a word you said? And no sooner than you did, he reached his hand out to touch your face, whereas you instinctively moved back. He paused for a moment, mid air, and then touched your cheek. "You look tired", he said thoughtfully.
Well he wasn't completely wrong.
He let his head drop on your shoulder, and again with the same sweet, mellow voice recited you name," Ye.seul.ah."
"Yes, yes I hear you." You laughed.
"I should've just left with you after work was over rather than come here. Everyone just wanted to meet you so bad. I'm sorry."
" . . . "
"Plus I didn't want you to pay for those guys." You confessed.
"Pay?", queried Jaebeom. "seeing how they sat and behaved with you , it's obvious that they were trying to leech off." He finally spoke.
" Yeseul, I want you to be very cautious and smart about who you associate yourself with in that work place and any where else. I won't always be around you, so you must be wary of people like Kyunghwan. Got it?" And then he lifted his head up to stare straight ahead.
So that's what was bothering him.
Trying to lift the strange tense atmosphere you spoke in childish wonder, "how dare they think of you as a pushover! In fact, why did you even drink whatever came my way, I could've handled-"
"What would you have done?" Cut in Jabeom.
You fell silent.
"Those two men and that woman, those three were your seniors. And anyone could notice how they exploited their position. I understood you couldn't do much from where you stand", he reprimanded you.
After a pause he continued, now in a smaller voice- "I dont think I can drive, how will you get back home?"
" Well thanx to a certain someone, I'm completely sober. So I'll drive your car to your house and drop you off. Then I'll take a cab to mine."
" 'seul?"
"Hmm?"
"You like me right?"
"Huh", you sat up straight, taken off guard by his question.
"You're sincere to me right? Whatever I do, I have always been sincere towards you."
Suddenly flustered by this uncharacteristic side of him you just tried to avoid his question, staring straight ahead.
"Just give me the car keys, let's go home now..." you said in a daze.
'Its definitely the alcohol in his brain.'
"Yeseul!"
"Ah, yes-"
chu!~~
"Wha..."
Chu!~~~
Jaebeom kissed you.
And the realization hit in.
Huh.
Huh???!!
" #$%@&**?! Jaebeom-!!! "
" ? "
"What are you ?! Why did you?!-"
"Hm? What? No one's around."
And he kissed you again. This time properly. Making you feel nothing like ever before.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Sadly, he ended up passing-out right after and you drove him back to his house, aided the house-helper lay him on bed, took a cab, went back to your home, changed into your night clothes, slipped in your bed and you laughed. You laughed until sleep graced you with her presence.
Except she never came. You were awake the whole night, rewinding and playing the scene again and again with the thought that would nag any other girl in your shoes- 'How do I see him after tonight! '.

New Family - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Genre: Poly!AU; Hybrid!AU; Fluff; Angst
Pairing: Hybrid BTS x Female! Reader; Human!Reader, Wolf!Namjoon, Alpaca!Seokjin, Black Panther!Yoongi, Red Fox!Jhope, Corgi Dog!Jimin, Tiger!Taehyung, Bunny!Jungkook.
Summary: After receiving a promotion at work Y/N realizes that she has more free time so she decides to use this time usefully and ends up volunteering in an organization that rescues abused hybrids. What she doesn't know is that this will completely change her life!
***********************❤*********************
I got home after a day's work, today I received the news that I won the promotion, which means that now I have more free time to do what I want, the problem is what to do, maybe I could occupy that time with something useful and help someone. I remember seeing a pamphlet about an organization that helps Hybrids.
"What was the name of the organization? Haaaa! I should have read it more carefully! I might be able to find it on the computer!" I thought while making a cup of coffee and starting the computer.
I start looking for something and I eventually find the organization, it seems that this organization rescues hybrids that suffers from abuses, they are then delivered to temporary houses of the volunteers until they have a permanent place for them.
"I don't think it's a bad idea, it wouldn't hurt to have company either. Hmm, I think I'm going to volunteer!" I thought after carefully reading the information. I fill in the form. After that I drinking the rest of my coffee still wondering if it was a good idea or not.
"Hybrids nowadays need all the help they can get, they're raised below animals, I think I did good by volunteering, they should have as much right as we do!" I think knowing that what I am doing is the most correct. With that decision, I turn off the computer, wash the cup and go to sleep, eventually dreaming about what is likely to happen without knowing that everything that is going to happen is what I least expect.
A week's work is over, I wake up Saturday morning for a quiet day to watch the movies I planned to see. I walk down the stairs still yawning thinking of what to do to eat when on the way to the kitchen I almost jump with fright as I hear my cell phone ring.
"Hello?" I pick up the cell phone. "Good morning is from the hybrids help organization we saw your application and we need a residence right away to host a hybrid!" a man on the other line said.
"Ok! I'm available now you can bring him here!" I replied without much time to think about it. "Okay, we'll be there in an hour." the man turns off after speaking. I stay looking at the cell phone in shock.
"1 HOUR!!!" I scream running to the bedroom to dress properly and try to clean the house as fast as I can.
After I got the house clean and presentable, the doorbell rings. I eagerly open the door and see two men, a tall dark haired man with a happy expression and soft eyes, behind him is a short still taller than me man with a empty expression and I can see several injuries in his face and body accompanied with a long black tail wagging behind him and his black ears twitching.
I let them in and I notice that the short one begins to limp, I tell them to sit down and the short one doesn't think twice and sits down, I'm looking at him trying to figure it out what kind of hybrid he is meanwhile the taller one refuses to sit.
"No thank you, I don't have much time! My name is Jackson, one of the owners of the organization. Thank you for helping us! This is Yoongi, he is a black panther, we found him in a rough situation, please take care of him!" the tallest of them said introducing himself.
"No problem! I'm happy to help! Don't worry, his in good hands!" I told him. "Thank you very much, I have to go now. Goodbye Yoongi behave yourself! Goodbye miss and he may have a bit of a temper but he is docile." Jackson said starting to leave."Bye have a nice day!" I say after I led him to the door.
I look at Yoongi and I suddenly think that he may be in pain so before I introduce myself I went to get a glass of water and some painkillers, I stand beside him on the couch and I see that his eyes are closed.
"Yoongi?" I ask softly and carefully. He opens his eyes and looks at me with cold eyes making me almost shiver and fearfully I gave him the painkillers.
After he smells them Yoongi takes the pills knowing it's safe. I celebrate in my head trying not to look at his cute ears and start petting them.
I pick up a cushion to put under his foot, I look at him silently asking for permission and he realizes it because he started to lie down on the couch letting me raise his foot.I sit down on the other couch thinking how I introduce myself.
"I'm Y/N! I'll take care of you in the next few days! How about we get to know each other better?" I start nervous. "I'm Yoongi." he says without elaborating.
"Oh ...." I say knowing I shouldn't ask any more. "Are you hungry? Do you want something?" I ask him. "No." he says, closing his eyes. I let him sleep knowing he needs it and that he will not say anything else.
"Man of few words." I say quietly leaving the room and going to the kitchen to eat breakfast that I had planned without noticing his ears twitching, Yoongi listening to what I said.
"I have to do grocery's, I don't have enough for both of us." I think while eating the few cereals I had. I look at Yoongi laying on the couch, wondering if I should woke him up to say that I was leaving. I decide it's best to warn him and I get up start walking to him, kneeling beside him I start to go to caress his cute ears but I think better and just shake his shoulder.
"Yoongi ......Yoongi!" I call his name softly. He wakes up suddenly scared and grips my wrist tightly but painlessly. "Yoongi, it's me! You're safe, don't worry!" I said to him calmly and a little worried. He looks at me breathlessly and when he recognizes me he releases my wrist and uses his hand to comb his hair.
"Sorry." he says low and without looking at me. "It's okay, you didn't hurt me Yoongi. Don't worry! I woke you up to tell you that I'm leaving. I need to go get some grocery's, do you need anything?" I ask him. He looks at me worried but tries to disguise. "Don't worry, it will be fine!" I told him. He keeps looking at me but he answers, "Hn. I need some clothes and meat, a lot of meat."
"Okay ..... then. I'll be back! If you need anything here, your free to do it!" I answer rising from the side of the couch. Preparing to leave I say goodbye to Yoongi who just nods going back to sleep.
Walking to the supermarket I start thinking about Yoongi, he being a black panther must need a lot of meat, thank god I love meat and hate fish otherwise it would be a disaster. Suddenly I start to smile knowing that even if he only knows me for few hours he showed me he was worried with me, haaaa so cute! But I can't think like that! He's leaving in a few days!
I arrive at the supermarket and start looking for comfortable clothes with his size then I start to go get the part of the food knowing that he being an exotic hybrid should eat a lot of food. I put in the cart several variations of food. After I paid for everything I start to pick up the bags and realize that they are many and very heavy.
"I knew I should have brought the car." I think coming out of the supermarket knowing that even being close to home it was going to be a long and painful trip.
Halfway I hear someone calling my name. I look back and see a colleague of mine from work waving and walking towards me.
"Y/n! Hello!" said coming near me. "Hello Mark, what are you doing here?" I ask him. "I came to visit a friend then I saw you here. I heard you got the promotion, congratulations! Those look heavy! Here, I'll help you carry them!" he says to me happy and looking at the bags. Mark and I started out in the company at the same time but different departments but we kept talking from time to time.
"No, no! There's no need! Don't worry!" I replied shaking my head several times. "No problem! I don't mind! Show me the way!" he said without listening to me , taking the bags and waiting for me to indicate the way.
Unable to convince him otherwise, we start walking to my house talking all the way and forgetting about the hybrid at home that has a bigger sense of smell than normal people.
Note: Hi it's the author! This is my first Hybrid! AU! Please be gentle! If you liked it do not be shy and sent me asks !!! What do you think it will be Yoongi reaction even if he only knows her for a few hours? Thank you for reading it! 🙈😊💜💜💜

I've spent some time wondering if coming back here to write something was too self indulgent at a time like this. But I'm going to start writing and if you're reading it then I got to the end, thought it was ok, and posted it.
I think it's fair to say that the nation's mental health, as a whole, is in somewhat of a state of flux at the minute. Our life as we have come to know it has been entirely disrupted, albeit temporarily. I've come back to this space to share some of my musings and offer support to anyone who's mental well-being has been affected since the threat of coronavirus has appeared. For many of us this may just be the most recent trigger in a series of major episodes of anxiety, low mood, etc. For others this may be the first experience of anxiety or any form of negative mental health. I hope this makes sense. Maybe even some of it may resonate.
I'm more than familiar with how isolated our thoughts can make us feel when we're in the midst of a low point. Add to that the very literal isolation that has been placed upon us through social distancing measures, and we have the recipe for a mental health crisis. But it isn't as bad as it sounds. In every new scenario and environment there is opportunity. We just have to be willing to see past the fear, and seize it.
There are some of us adept at change. There are some of us that aren't. I most certainly am not. I'm analytical and need order. I need time to digest my new environment, figure out how to exist within it, and then consciously marry up my strengths to this new situation, while guarding my vulnerabilities, until I establish a comfort zone. For those of us who aren't as fast paced as others when dealing with change, the entire situation is a wall of anxiety that seems insurmountable. We are paralysed by the overwhelming barrage of "what ifs" leading to "I can'ts" that lead to "I'm a failure" and there we have ourselves back on the edge of The Abyss, thinking that this is no way to live and pleading with the universe to make tomorrow better.
The insurmountable wall right now is made up of a combination of catastrophic thoughts that has the potential to cripple us. From worrying about the health of ourselves, our friends and families, to worrying how long this will last, and when we can see each other again, each question is a potential doorway to a 'corridor of catastrophising'. It's very easy to end up at very scary and upsetting conclusions, such as "I'm never going to see xyz again" or "I'm next". Very dark thoughts in an already dark time.
The process of breaking the cycle of worry is a lot greater than anything I can outline in this blog. There's a reason that forms of therapy last many sessions. But I'll try to pass on a few tips that have helped me over the years.
I like to think there's two places you can tackle your worry. If we use the analogy of the 'corridor of catastrophising', the door you walk through and into the corridor is the initial worry, the end of the corridor is the final conclusion you reach: a dead end is a total overwhelming negative thought, taking another door out of the corridor is us reaching a better conclusion.
The first way you can try to tackle your worry is at the start, by nipping it in the bud. When you open the door and see that "what if" worry, you can ask yourself is this normal worry, or excessive worry. If what you're thinking is something like "I'm worried about the wellbeing of my grandparents because they're vulnerable and isolating for 12 weeks" then this is a perfectly normal worry. Any human being would think this. You then need to make sure you follow up this thought with positive action and find one way to make the situation better. Using the grandparents example, can you set them up with video calling? Can you send them voice notes? Can you get them involved in distanced activities like a video chat quiz or look for events to take part in like the virtual grand national? Taking positive action will help remove the mental isolation and bring about a positive shift in mindset. And much like a negative mindset can spiral, a positive mindset can also gain momentum.
For some of us though this may be to little too late. We might have already walked down the dark corridor to it's gloomy and seemingly absolute end. And also for anyone who hasn't had to work at challenging their thought processes before, simply trying to nip it in the bud is a a lot to get to grips with straight away, and you could actually end up in a strange state of denial where you're pushing the thought away, only for it to come back with a vengeance. So we have to look at reframing our negative thoughts to help us back track and take another turn off the corridor.
The idea is to challenge the thought by asking yourself can I bring any evidence to back that thought up? Can I prove without any shadow of doubt that the thought I have is true? Using the example of grandparents again, it's easy to bring in evidence like "they're old and therefore high risk", "there's already been thousands of deaths". These are natural worries, but they're not concrete evidence to support a worst case scenario. If we try re-framing our thoughts more positively then the thoughts become less consuming and therefore allow us to think more rationally. "They're vulnerable" - correct, but they're shielding for 12 weeks in isolation to ensure the chances of infection are minimal. "There's already been thousands of deaths" - could be challenged by "yes but there's also plenty of cases of recovery and also so many that haven't been infected or shown symptoms. As long as we're all doing our part to stop the spread, we reduce the risk".
By challenging each negative thought we give ourselves chance to minimise their detrimental impact and make them more manageable and easy to digest. It takes a lot of practice but eventually you get quicker at managing these thoughts and you're quickly volleying them away before they can take hold.
Another problem many of us are now facing is the concept of managing our time in isolation so we're not climbing the walls. Not an easy task at all, but one the more analytical of us may find a bit easier. Iregardless it will take practice. It's easy to fall into bad habits when we have too much time to kill. For some of us we'll naturally fall into good habits because we're disciplined. For others amongst us structure and good routine maybe don't come so naturally. The best way to ensure we're getting the most out of our day is to spend up to a week documenting your activities and the mood you experienced while doing it, correlating what our mood was like to the activity and looking for patterns in the day to day, so that we can then start planning more activities that elevate our mood whilst balancing our necessary tasks that may not bring us so much comfort or joy. Sounds simple on paper but I can definitely attest to the fact that challenging your own behaviour and embedding change is never easy.
There are also so many of us who have anxious brains who've suddenly found that we're calmer than usual. That people around us seem more anxious than we are. It's an interesting phenomenon that I've recently found myself in and mused over this somewhat. Having pondered on it a while, I can only draw the conclusion that my mind is used to living in a state of abstract worry. By that I mean I'm worrying about what MIGHT happen, or rumenating on an incident that happened a week ago. None of this worry is in the present. And when you're suffering from a period of mental ill-health it feels almost possible to be present, grounded, and in the moment. But in this pandemic lies a very real, very present threat. One that means our lives are changing by the day. A threat that is very much making us exist in the present. Anyone who's ever been stuck in the rut if anxious thinking knows that when you snap out of it into the present moment, you're capable of thinking and rationalising and lightning speed. So if you're one of us who's found yourself much calmer than ever, make sure you're continuing to keep those positive actions going to build a positive resilience. Think about what you can do to help friends, family, colleagues and your community to keep us all afloat. Sometimes the people who've experienced the darkest of thoughts are the ones who can bring light to others dark times. If this is you, now's your time to shine.
The final key to it all is my age old advice. KEEP TALKING. The second you feel in a slump, pick up the phone and call someone. Video call them. Start a House Party. Never impose further isolation on yourself by withdrawing. On the opposite side, if you haven't heard from someone in a while then call them. Make whatever plans you can in this difficult time.
I think I've meandered on long enough. If you've made it this far, thank you. If you've found any of this thought provoking or even helpful please let me know. I've attached a link to some further reading on covid-19 and anxiety (if you have any reading left in you) I think it's pretty useful

Wow, why did I just find out about all your Yousana works, they're amazing! I love your writing so much that I decided to send you a prompt: two times they comfort each other. - Sana has had a really bad day at school + Yousef has had a really bad day at work The other comforts the one who had the bad day + forehead kisses (it could be the first time Yousef kisses her on the forehead or something) I hope you decide to write it! 💜
Hey :) Thank you so much!
I hope you like it. Please let me know what you think :)
——————————————————————————————-
“Hey, is itokay if we postpone our basketball date and do something more chillinstead?”, Sana hears Yousef say on the other end of the line. She’sholding her phone in between her ear and shoulder while she was packing a smallbag for said date.
Now she takes the phone in her hand andgets worried. Yousef doesn’t sound good, even though he tries to hide that.
“Of course. Not a problem. Are youokay?”, Sana asks and tries not to panic. Yousef is one of the few peopleshe knows who are almost never so down that it would affect how they talk andact.
She hears him sigh. “I’ll tell youwhen I get there. Five minutes.”
They hang up and until the doorbellrings Sana walks up and down the hall, nervously and afraid of what it might bethat made her boyfriend so upset.
Sana opens the door and is faced withYousef. He shows Sana a small smile to which she immediately wraps her armsaround his neck. Yousef doesn’t waste any time and hugs her back.
“Are you okay?”, Sanawhispers.
“Been better.”, Yousefanswers.
They part from the hug but Sana’s handtravels down his arm and finally finds its place in his hand.
“Okay, what do you want to do? Comein or go out? Let’s do something you want to do. Anything, really!”, Sanasuggests and is more bubbly than she usually is but she feels like she needs tobalance it out. It’s usually Yousef who is super energetic and can’t standstill but he’s the complete opposite now.
“Can I come in?”, he asks.
Sana quickly nods and pulls him inside, closing the door behind them. Once he takes off his shoes, Sana leads the wayto the living room. Only her mother is at home besides the two of them so Sanacalls out to her mother: “Mamma, Yousef is here. Alright?”
A minute later Mamma Bakkoush comes intothe living room and has a short conversation with Yousef. Since Sana and Yousefstarted dating, those two got even closer than they were before.
Sana’s mother trusts her and Yousefenough to leave them alone in the house while she does some gardening.  Yousef sits down on the couch but Sana doesn’t. He tries to not show how downhe is but it’s really obvious to Sana. He’s very quiet and only smiles when hethinks Sana is looking.
Sana crouches in front of him and takeshis hand in hers. She looks up at him and he meets her gaze with a smile.
“Do you want some tea? It’ll begood for you to relax and while I prepare that you can choose a movie or somethingto watch. Or maybe a TV show. We still need to finish Teen Wolf.” Most ofthe time it’s Yousef that comforts her. Now, Sana feels like she has to do everythingshe can to make him feel better. She doesn’t know what’s bothering him yet butshe knows he’ll tell her if he feels like it. She’s not one to push him to tellher. She just really doesn’t want to see Yousef so upset.
When Sana stands up and wants to go tothe kitchen, Yousef lightly holds on to her hand and makes Sana turn around tohim.
She sees him looking at her with so muchlove in his eyes that she doesn’t know what to say to that.
“Sana, you don’t have to doanything. Just being next to you makes me feel a whole lot better.”
Sana furrows her eyebrows and shakes herhead. “I’ll bring you your tea and then I’ll be by your side the wholerest of the day. Sounds good?”
Yousef smiles at her and it really seemsgenuine. “Sounds good.”
While she is gone to make the tea,Yousef thinks to himself how lucky he is to have someone like Sana in his life. She didn’t immediately bomb him with questions about what made his day soawful, she lets him be until he is ready to talk.
“Okay, what are we watching?”,Sana asks, coming back with snacks and tea for the both of them.
She sits down next to him and looks athim with so much affection in her eyes that Yousef can’t help himself andembraces her in hug. He rests his chin on top of her head and she leans herhead on his shoulder.
“Do you need to rant? I’ll listenwithout giving any comments.”, Sana says with a cute smile and makesYousef smile, as well. He is very aware that she is trying to make him laugh orsmile any way possible without being too pushy.
They’re sitting knee to knee and Sanajust watches him with big eyes. She is worried about what happened but shedoesn’t have to show him that. He obviously has had a bad enough day. Yousefnods lightly and lets his eyes wander over Sana’s face. She waits patiently forhim to say something.
“Okay. But Ijust want to have said it out loud once and then we don’t have to talk about itanymore. It’s not that big of a deal, honestly.”, Yousef finally says towhich Sana nods . He pushes his hair back again and thinks he’ll sound like ababy complaining about this. But the way Sana looks at him, like she will neverjudge whatever he will talk about, makes it so easy for him to open up.Generally, Yousef is very open about things that are not too important to himbut with Sana he can talk about everything.
“I’m just ..honestly, I’m pissed about what happened at work today. This kid, Lucas, was onthe swing and so many of the teachers there told him to not jump whileswinging. You know, like we do. And usually they listen. But no, today heapparently didn’t feel like listening. He jumped and guess what happened?”Yousef stops talking and looks at Sana. She has her eyebrows raised and waitsfor him to continue, “He broke his arm.”
Sana doesn’t know how to react. This isprobably not why Yousef is so angry. Children hurt themselves while playing, ithappens. Sana doesn’t know how many times she ended up with wounds when she wasa child because she couldn’t sit still.
“And as if that is not bad enough, his mother came to pick him up when we called her and she went off on us sayingwe wouldn’t pay enough attention to the kids. We should be more careful. Weshould not let the kids do stuff like that. What does she think we’re doingwith the kids? We can’t make them sit around all day, can we? And accidentshappen. But she just started shouting, wanting to file a complaint anywhere shecan and her shouting made the other kids nervous and some of them startedcrying."
Sana doesn’t even know what to say tothat. No, that’s a lie. She has a lot to say but nothing that would help thissituation. As a mother that woman should know that stuff like that can happen. She keeps quiet and looks at Yousef while he rants more. She can see that heneeded to let it all out.
"The best part? I’m not even Lucas’teacher. It was not me who was responsible for him in that moment but the womanwas sure it was all my fault. And I’m not saying I would want her to shout atone of my colleagues. She shouldn’t have been so rude at all. And you know whenshe stopped being a b.. being so loud and insufferable? When my boss came andtold her the same thing I did before: that things like that unfortunately canhappen and that we can’t have every single child under close supervision allday. It’s not good for them either.”
After he finishes this last sentence hetakes a deep breath and sighs. Then he looks at Sana, who just looks at himwith a very small smile. She is just happy that he got all of that off his chest. He obviously needed it. She knows that bottling things up is not the way to go.
Yousef laughs for a moment and Sanalooks at him confused.
“I just feel a lot better aftersaying it out loud.”, Yousef confesses.
“I’m glad it helped.”, Sanasays with a happy smile of her own. Seeing Yousef smile makes her smile too.
“No comments?”, Yousef asksSana. He is amused by how she tries to not show a big reaction but once ortwice while he was speaking he could see that she had something to say.
However, she shakes her head: “Itold you I would listen without commenting anything.”
With a content smile, and feeling a lotbetter than when he came here, Yousef leans back and rests his head on thebackrest of the couch.
He tilts his head towards Sana.“Thank you for listening.”
Sana smiles at him, showing her dimples, and nods. “Of course. The next thing she does neither of themexpected.
Seeing Yousef smile like this aftercoming here looking very upset makes Sana unbelievably happy. She would havenever thought that a boy being happy would make her this happy.
She turns to him again and in a quickmotion she kisses him on the cheek. It happens really fast and is over justlike that. But once Sana turns away from him she can feel her cheeks grow red.
Yousef’s eyes widen and his lips part alittle. He didn’t expect this but he couldn’t mind it less.
A few moments later, after both of themjust smile to themselves, Sana turns to Yousef and with a shy smile tells him:“Your tea is going to get cold.”, and hands it to him.
-
Three days later it’s Yousef’s free dayand as per usual he goes to pick Sana up from school. It has quickly become atradition for them to do something together after Sana leaves school onMondays. They don’t even need to talk about it anymore.
Yousef immediately sees Sana in herblack hijab when she comes out of the school. She’s looking down on her phone, with a frown, and doesn’t look up at all while walking. He knows how busy shealways is but he has a feeling that it’s not just that.
His suspicion gets confirmed secondslater. Sana walks straight up to Yousef but she still hasn’t looked up and thisway doesn’t see Yousef standing there. Her shoulder crashes against his and shemumbles a Sorry and keeps walking. Yousef catches up to her and gently holdsher arm to stop her.
Sana turns around and seems reallysurprised to see Yousef. Which is weird because he has been waiting for heroutside of her school ever Monday for a lot of weeks now.
“Yousef, hi.”, Sana says witha very small smile.
Yousef furrows his eyebrows at her tone. She doesn’t seem very happy.
“Did you forget about me?”,Yousef jokes and hopes to get at least a short laugh from her but she justshakes her head.
“Sorry. Just had a …veryinteresting day.”
Sana feels so exhausted that she forgotthat Yousef would be waiting outside. She never forgets that. It’s the onething she can look forward to every Monday. She doesn’t give Yousef a chance toask what happened. Instead she takes his hand and starts walking. He justfollows her, stroking the back of her hand with his thumb in a soothing manner.
“Do you want to get a coffee andjust sit somewhere? In the park or something?”, Sana asks him and he nods.
They go to the next coffee shop, closeto Sana’s school. Yousef orders for the both of them and Sana finds herselfsmile that he knows exactly what her order is. He even orders a chocolatemuffin for her because he knows she likes them and hopes that it might cheerher up a bit. Sana realizes that and can’t do anything but look at him and bevery grateful. He is so great, so caring. How she managed to end up with him isa big puzzle to her but she is glad she did. He can make her smile even whenshe is feeling very down.
Not much later they’re sitting in thepark. To be very precise: Sana is sitting on Yousef’s jacket. He insisted thatshe should sit on it because he didn’t want the grass to ruin her light-washjeans. They watch people walk by, jog by, play football or have a picnic.
“So, want to tell me what happened?I’ll listen without giving any comments.”, Yousef asks his girlfriend witha cute grin. Sana realizes that he just quoted her to her and rolls her eyes athim but can’t help but smile a little.
Yousef knows why she reacts the way shedoes and bumps his shoulder lightly into hers and tilts his head, watching her.
Sana sighs and starts talking. She can’tbe a hypocrite. She knows that talking about it will help ease the uneasyfeeling in her chest. That’s what she thought would help Yousef a few days agoand it had.
“School was just very exhaustingtoday. My school basketball team is probably not going to exist next yearbecause so many are quitting because they need to concentrate on the last yearof school. My biology teacher hates us, I’m sure of it, because she gave usthree projects to finish by the end of the month. All of them are meant to bedone with a partner and you know my partner is Isak and we work well togetherbut there is no way we’ll be able to meet so often to get three projects done. And as if that is not enough already, I had an argument with Vilde. We stoppedfighting about small stuff a long time ago but I don’t know what it was todaybut she exploded on me and I reacted too harshly I think. The worst part isthat I think she’s going through something but I can’t help her without askingbut I don’t want to make her uncomfortable.”
Then she laughs humourlessly and looksback at Yousef again who has been looking at her the whole time. He has hislegs propped up and his head resting on them, turned to look at Sana.
“I’m sure you don’t want to hearanything about high school stress. You’re done with it already, afterall.”
To that Yousef sits up straight andturns his whole body to face Sana. He quickly shakes his head. “No, that’snot true. I’ll gladly listen to whatever is bothering you and try to find a wayto make it better.”, he stops for a second and realizes something,“Okay, I said I wouldn’t comment anything and I won’t if you don’t want meto.”
Sana raises her eyebrows at him andwonders what he could be thinking. Honestly, just expressing her worries madeher feel a little better. Especially after seeing how Yousef looks at her, paying so much attention to what she has to say.
“Go ahead.”
Yousef nods eagerly. “I just wantto say one thing. I love how you always find time to think about your friends.I’m honestly not worried about you being able to get your projects done intime. I’ll help as much as I can, if you want me to. But you’re so smart thatthere is no doubt for me that you would be able to get it all done in time. Andwhile you worry about that plus your Basketball team you also worry about yourfriend after fighting with her. You could have just been bitter that you had abad day but you weren’t and I don’t know how you do it but I admire you forthat.”
Sana’s heart melts at his words and shedoesn’t know what to say to that. He is such an amazing boyfriend, alwaysmaking her feel better. She doesn’t even notice that tears come to her eyesuntil Yousef’s smile changes into a concerned frown and he cups her face in hishands, after waiting a few seconds to give Sana the chance to back away, whichshe doesn’t.
“O God. What did I say?”,Yousef asks, obviously worried.
Sana shakes her head and laughs.“You said all the right things. I’m just happy to have you.”, Sanaconfesses. “Thank you."
She is feeling very emotional today andhis cute speech didn’t help that. Neither does the look he gives her, full ofaffection.
"Then, maybe I’m not sorry that Icouldn’t keep myself from commenting something.”
“You shouldn’t be.”
They stare into each other’s eyes andget lost in them. Sana doesn’t understand how she got so lucky to have Yousefin her life as her boyfriend. She never met anyone like him before, she’s sograteful that she met him and that they are in a position like this.
Yousef could sit there, having Sanaright next to him, just looking into her eyes, forever. Seeing her sad isnothing he wants to ever see and that he was able to make it a little betterfor her is a huge achievement to him.
He has Sana’s face in his hands. Withoutthinking much, he leans forward and kisses her forehead. It just feelsright in that moment.
Sana closes her eyes at his touch on herforehead. The warmth coming from his lips, him being so close, it all makesSana’s stomach do a backflip and her lips curl into a very happy smile.
It’s the first time Yousef kisses herlike this. She has kissed him on his cheek before, and he has placed a kiss onher hands in a comforting manner before but this is the first kiss on herforehead.
Somehow both of them know that this isdifferent from anything else. They both know that this represents how muchYousef cares for her. Not that either of them needed this to know but it’s niceto Sana to be reminded and it’s important to Yousef to remind Sana of that.
A few moments later they sit next toeach other, shoulders touching, looking at each other.
“Let’s hope this week goes betterfor both of us.”, Yousef says with a small grin.
Sana nods but also says: “Even ifdoesn’t. We have each other to make it better.”
