Okay I’m late to this as it has already been out a year but I just discovered the series A Better Story on the TJLCExplained YouTube channel by the always lovely @victorianpining and I cannot scream loudly enough when I say that if you haven’t watched it, stop whatever you are doing and watch it now.
Rebecca’s analysis is as piercing and intelligent as it is open-minded and thoughtful and at every step there is so much heart.
If you were hurt by season four, it is time to heal and A Better Story is exactly the medicine you need. You will be held with complete compassion and understanding as you come to terms with it all
Even if you never want to come back to BBC Sherlock, consider taking the time to heal anyway. I’ve seen the old Sherlock pain rise from the deep like a monster in other fandoms and it really does spoil things— sucks out all the fun and corrupts the interpretation. We need to heal.
And if you don’t have any lingering trauma, damn watch it anyway. It’s joyful and intelligent and brilliant. The game is on.

Oh man I was also caught up in the BBC Sherlock drama.
You want the behind the scenes intense drama stuff? Well a large group of us were called TJLC tinfoil hats. It was madness.
This youtube channel...
https://youtube.com/@TJLCExplained?si=5ymS4k3hqVuvFoYh
Went super deep. They also have all the books. It was a super deep dive. So start from the first episode to now so you can be a part of the train to. It's all there so you can know what it was for us caught in the drama.
You should totally write a thing to add to the fandom. It's never too late lol heck I'm writing for a dead fandom right now just because, so you should totally throw your hat in there.
I’m very tempted. I’ve already got short stories outlined for ep 1 and 2 (using phone google docs to frantically type as I’m watching the ep lmaooo)
I just love Martin Freeman in EVERYTHING and other than RDJ who played a fantastic Sherlock, Benedict is my favorite in the role. They’re literally beautiful together, effortless chemistry
I guess it’s good I missed the drama if only for my own mental health, I did the same with the MCU, I didn’t get into the fandom until mid 2017 so it was post the worst of CACW stuff. I felt like I missed the Golden Age of marvel fandom and I absolutely missed the Golden Age of Sherlock fandom but yeahhh I’m extremely tempted to toss a few things out.

Can you say why you like TEH so much? I hated it but I wonder if I missed something.
it's not the Best but you hated it?? oh dear lord i don't know how to describe why i love it. I mean, yeah it's sad, but there's a lot to love.
We really start seeing things from Sherlock's pov and that's the best part, point blank period.
the humor! the opening scenes to this episode? unparalleled. Fu-Cough. Does yours rub off too? "I helped him put up some shelves" 💀
the Train Car metaphor. SUMATRA ROAD! Appointment in "Sumatra" foreshadowing. The Giant Rat of Sumatra "a story for which the world is not yet prepared."
Donde estás yolanda? the femme fatale-mary foreshadowing. the stairs + the perfume of the lady in black both set up.
the guy fawkes burning scene which is emotional and exciting to watch, but also that taking place in st. james the less church's park makes it loaded. you can read my thoughts on that here
before it's revealed to be a "prank" :/ i do like the first train car scene
How I did it by Jack the Ripper means a lot to me personally though it's hard to explain why without the meta.
"Interesting thing a tuxedo. Lends distinction to friends and anonymity to waiters" is a line from a gay novel though I forget the name.
If you want to know more or understand why i love it, (if you haven't already) you could watch the TJLCexplained video on that episode it'd do a more thorough job of explaining most of the above.

Hi Steph! I've just finished watching TJLCExplained's video on romantic tropes on Sherlock and I was wondering if you knew any metas that talked about them too. Rebekah said that she had a link with them, but it doesn't work anymore, so I thought you may knew any metas. Thank you so much!
Hey Nonny!
Yeah, it used to be the The Unabridged Dictionary of Johnlock Tropes: 157 Romantic Tropes Used in the Gayest Show on TV but my link is actually broken too as are all the google Links, so I don’t know if anyone still has this list somewhere. It was a very good read, and I am sad it is gone :(

me taking the tjlc survey: I crawled out of the womb with full knowledge of drink code while clarinet soloing the TJLCExplained intro song
not surprisingly, the Google image search results for “baby drinking tea” is just full of cliche babies-in-teacups photo shoots and pregnant women with mugs.

So something happened today. I was talking to a friend who had just seen TFP. He did know I ship Johnlock, but he didn’t know about TJLC. He told me he didn’t like the ending of the series. We talked about plotholes for a bit and we started to talk about the first three seasons.
I told him about TJLC at first he laughed about it but the more I told him the more I liked the idea.
He’s now watching all of the TJLCExplained videos by @pearlrebs. He says he wants to be able to see the real story. He doesn’t accept TFP as the ending anymore. He said he should have seen it from the beginning. He HAD that rug pull moment that Moffat was talking about. But not because of TFP but because of TJLC.
I convinced someone of TJLC after he saw TFP.
Because we are right and TFP is wrong.

Based on one of the most amazing people that I've ever had the pleasure of founding on YouTube, I like to call her the gay and awesome version of The Game Theory, but she's most know as Rebeka, from TJLC Explained, I know, have a time that the videos stopped, but, I couldn't resist, I had to do a draw, so I did it And I hope you liked it #Englishpost #Tjlc #sorry #tjlcexplained #Artist #digitalilustrations https://www.instagram.com/p/BxLS2ytpeKe/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12fxk095gbo5j

ok so anon from a few days ago who’s been rewatching. hadn’t planned on rewatching s4 but i did anyway. was wondering how you felt about? i think the first two episode are ok, but i really can’t find anything redeemable in “the final problem.” i just do not like that whole storyline. i find the plot and the writing to be pretty awful (sorry mark gatiss) besides that, the whole season for me confirms that they really were queerbaiting which is just a punch in the gut
Oh boy you are new around here huh...
It’s hard to have this conversation without establishing how much you know about tjlc. If you are just a casual viewer than I can see where you’re coming from. But either way, how you feel about it is how I felt about it the first time around. HOWEVER, I know this show too well so I stuck around. One does not simply write a rich, layered and perfectly plotted 5 act show and then tank it as bad as tfp without it being on purpose. Now (when I’m not crying over john) I can watch tfp and laugh my ass off. I highly suggest reading this article first before anything else.
Then I would brush up on tjlc lore if you’re not wellversed? I assume not. If you’re completely new I suggest watching tjlcexplained (it’s pre-s4 analysis so it’s a little out of date but still really accurate) and watching primarily eps 1-4, 11, 12, 17, 20, 21, then 35-42 (the episode deep dives I’d skip/save for later cause they’re hella long but do come back to them). THEN keep reading the article I mentioned above: part 2, part 3, and part 4 if you do nothing else above at least do these, but also they were written with a base knowledge of tjlc in mind. If these don’t convince you then idk dude 🤷‍♀️
Overall, I think TFP should be considered its own thing separate from the rest of the series. It’s so bad it’s so good imo. The rest of s4 we could be here all day. I’m sure you could search my ‘mine’ tag or search blog theory or s4 on my blog to figure out what I feel about it but ultimately! I hold on to the concept of the Great Game. This is not a show for the faint of heart and it is meant to be solved. A lot of people complain that the show became less about the cases and there was less mystery but I disagree. The show ITSELF especially s4 is meant as a riddle to be solved, you have to work for it.
Form your own opinion but the above is the gist of what I think about it. The show will definitely have a 5th season one day or I’ll eat my hat, and if so, can it really be considered queerbaiting if it isn’t over??
