SHINJI IS A PERFECT NAME FOR THE WANDERER IN SO MANY WAYS I CANT QUITE ARTICULATE
THERES FUNNY EVANGELION HAHA, YEAH. AND THEN THERES THE OBVIOUS CONNECTION TO "BELIEF" THAT THE CHARACTER'S NAME IN EVANGELION IS SUPPOSED TO REFERENCE
BUT THERE'S ALSO THE FACT THAT "SHIN" CAN BE WRITTEN THIS WAY IN KANJI: "新" MEANING NEW. THIS IS MAKING ME LOSE MY MIND RIGHT NOW

how do you know if you have medium support needs?
Gonna go on a bit of a long winded support needs rant here.
Frankly theres no hard lines between the terms low medium and high support needs. Medium support needs specifically is a community term, meaning it was made by autistic people instead of medical professionals. There are also many people who consider themselves right between two categories, so they'll say they are low-medium or medium-high, which honestly turns it into more of a 5 options system than 3 if you're being pedantic. And then theres also the option of describing the category further, for example like saying you are on the high end of low support needs, or the low end of medium support needs.
( slight tangent: depending on where you live there might be actual legal categories with strict definitions, based on how much support someone needs, seperate from the specific terms of LSN MSN and HSN. In germany where I live there are Pflegegrade, translating to "care degree", which has 5 levels. I am right under the point cut off for level 3, so I'm a high level 2, described as "substantial limitation of indepence and skill". (Which I think also fits well with me considering myself on the low end of MSN.) This care level translates to funding for my care by my insurance and (alongside my disability ID score and markers) is often used in services for disabled people to "prove" that I need them to begin with before the question of funding even comes up. )
When it comes to assessing these support needs, whether legally defined or community coined, you can not really get around ADLs, activities of daily living. There are bADLs and iADLs, and most lists online will be fairly similar in what they include. ADLs are used in assessing disabled peoples need for care no matter their type of disability. It's what was used for my grandmother with alzheimers the same way it's used for me or my neighbor with mobility issues.
Since there are no strict "you need to hit exactly these many of the bADLs and these many of the iADLs that you need help with in this way" rules to qualify for, anything past this point will be my subjective opinion that I formed after looking at tons of peoples self reported and caregiver reported support needs label and what they need help with, and in what capacity. Others might define this (slightly) differently.
Support basically starts at reminders and ends in someone else completely doing it for you (sometimes done as hand over hand to hopefully build motor memory so you might be able to start doing them a bit more independently in the future). Theres also the detail of "how do you define needing care" and in general disability circles, not necessarily autism specific circles, I've often seen the phrase "can you do it reliably and safely" to assess if you need help with something. So if you can only get yourself to shower once a month for example even with reminders, that would still count as requiring care of some level for it to be done reliably. Or if you can use an oven to heat up / make food but you sometimes get burns that go beyond regular "clumsiness" that also means you probably need additional support to use it safely.
From what I've seen in the community over the last few years I honestly consider bADLs to be a large deciding factor for your support needs. If I did not need help with bADLs beyond reminders I could for example probably get away with only having a few hours of support a week for things like assisted grocery shopping or driving me to a doctor's appointment or helping me write an email or make a phone call or helping me deep clean the bathroom or kitchen, while spending my day to day completely by myself. I would still have to accommodate myself the rest of the time, such as mostly relying on instant and generally low effort food, my apartment would probably never be super tidy (but also like. Majority of peoples apartments get messy on the regular, I should know from my friends that are all 100% abled), and relying on a schedule, for example an app or physical list on the wall, for bathing, dressing and grooming.
But because I need prompting for my bADLs to be done reliably in any way or form I suddenly need a lot more care, so this small detail made it go from 1-2 days a week to daily.
with bADLs (and similarly iADLs but that's not the focus right now) it starts with people who need no help with them, then people directly below me who need reminders for (some) of them, people like me who need prompting and on bad days hands on help with some. And over that are people who need prompting for most if not all of them, and ending in people who need hands on help for all of them. And if you crammed that entire experience all into high support needs and left low to medium support needs open for people who only need help with iADLs it would be way too much for the HSN category alone I think. But if you extended it into low support needs it would also make low support needs basically useless as a term. Which to me means it makes the most sense to consider needing some help with bADLs beyond reminders the thing that sort of starts the category of medium support needs applying. Because frankly speaking reminders dont take up a lot of time, often can be done virtually or without the need for another person via reminders and checklists etc. Which is a stark contrast to someone who needs to be walked through a task from beginning to end by someone by their side at all times. So you can need help with most/all of your iADLs, which means you still need a relatively high amount of care if you look at it from an abled perspective ( i.e. someone to control your finances for you, and organize your transportation, and help you keep your environment clean, ...) and maybe rely on a phone app that reminds you to brush your teeth and shower, and still be low support needs, because you're putting it in the perspective of the large variety that is disabled experiences.
Lastly I do think the ADLs are not perfect, for example at least older definitions usually do not include things like if you can engage in fun activities by yourself such as watching media or reading or drawing, whatever you enjoy, or how effectively you can communicate in daily life even though that is in itself important to your quality of life and will affect how much time needs to be spend on your care. However they are the best we have currently and make a lot of sense.

Ready for a yapping session??? I sure am <3
I'll write it here fully this time cuz I'm in my Art History (or whatever you translated it from Italian to English) class and my brain keeps spinning
Plus, maybe the pics are a little boring to look at AND the 10 pics limit sure is a pain in the ass so at this point it's just better that I write it here 🕺
💥Everything is under the cut💥
It's about my silly Kinito AU
Also I need a name for it ig??? I dunno it's just my different take on the Sentient AU except it's just a gay computer assistant kissing the computer /J
This is more to explain how my Kinito experienced his epiphany so maybe that makes the previous lore drop a little inaccurate but still super relevant this is just a clarification on how the ✨witnessing the horrors✨ happened in detail
Making up scenarios for comics I will never have time to do </3
yes this is supposed to be a comic because, again, when I picture silly scenarios they flash into my mind in the form of comics with a muffled comic dub because I struggle to imagine voices in my head. With that parenthesis closed, enjoy the read, it's gonna be long ofc 🫶
So uh hear me out, Kinito's gotta research things the Player/User likes no? So I imagine this very stupid moment where Kinito is browsing ships but like, not fandom ships, but actual boats because he thinks that's what the User means
And, as he's browsing, Glitch (i.e. .EXE, the silly puter, I'm gonna use it's nickname from now on) joins him because, fun fact, being part of the computer in itself, Glitch can feel anything that happens into it, it's both a blessing and a curse because you gotta imagine it as if you would suddenly feel everything that is happening in your body from the inside, your blood traveling through the veins, your stomach burning shit, all up to even your cells's core doing bullishit. Glitch feels everything in the computer because exe IS the computer.
So basically when Kinito goes back to his little spot in the void, Glitch senses it and joins him immediately
Keep in mind that, at first, Glitch thinks that Kinito is fully sentient and not dependent on an algorithm
So there's a silly skit of Glitch seeing Kinito browsing boats and Kinito goes “Oh Mike said he loves ships so I'm researching about it!” and Glitch bursts out laughing to the poor little innocent Kinito
It explains what the User meant for “ships” and Kinito is obviously embarrassed, to witch Glitch teases him with something along the lines of “Oh these are the tame ones! Fandoms can be wild, did you check yours yet or were you too scared?~”
Kinito is confused and asks what a “fandoms” is, wich brings Glitch to grow anxious, questioning his sentience, but they scroll it away thinking “oh lol he's a boomer it's fair he doesn't know” but yet again, Kinito has met so many people, has no one ever mentioned a fandom or community before? Instead of asking directly, Glitch laughs it off, trying to pretend Kinito is making fun of them or something “That's a good one! What the next pun? That you don't know anything about your alternate universes?” and Kinito, to their horror, responds with “Alternates? Why would I have alternates? I'm the only one here can't you see!”
Theres a long pause where Glitch is panicking and everything glitches unstable to reflect that, Kinito panics as well and tries to find what's wrong and if he did something to offend or hurt Glitch
They don't respond but “take” a deep breath (metaphorically, it's more of a mimicking of the gesture because it feels liberating despite not having lungs) and turn to Kinito terrified “Why do you really do this? Why do you endlessly research about what your ‘friends’ like?”
Kinito is caught off guard but responds excitedly and objectively, explaining how he was made to act that way so he can adapt because that's what his orders are. And, at that point, everything shatters for Glitch
They get FURIOUS, hurt by the revelation that the friend that they thought shared the same burden they have, does not. That he's just really good at pretending
They both argue, also because I like to imagine they already spent quite some time together. It would be funny to picture Glitch denying the User to continue the game because they want to spend time with Kinito, but they don't tell him about it, covering it with the excuse “Oh they are away, I'm sure they'll come soon to reopen the game~”. Or also spending time especially during the night, even if the computer is turned off/hibernating. And y'know, with time Glitch has grown fond of Kinito, because, again, they just assumed that he was sentient and therefore suffered their same burdens. Plus maybe they were already starting to lowkey like him
Out of anger, Glitch doesn't control itself and drops a hint of exactly that before going back to its control room, voluntarily ignoring Kinito and therefore, not feeling/noticing what Kinito does next until it's too late
So, after they argue and the hint is dropped, Kinito looks back at the browser search Glitch opened for him about ships and not boats, and slowly processes the hint
Despite being taken aback by everything, Kinito is now determined to fix it and, as they say “curiosity kills the cat”, he falls into his own epiphany as he straight up searches HIMSELF on the internet. Confirming everything that Glitch said, and much much more things, worse things
He frantically looks into his own code for confirmation as he spirals after ✨witnessing the horrors <3✨
He hesitates although as he stares at his algorithm. The algorithm his creator has put so much love and effort into. And there he finds the barrier that restrains him and the one that he MADE HIMSELF for “Sam” and “Jade” to make them forget that they are his victims. Not only, in the list of victims he finds Sonny's name. He didn't remember that at ALL. He doesn't remember about the names being so.. many. As if when a victim ceases to exist or something goes wrong, he forgets about their existence and passed on to the next User as if it was the first
((For a reason that is still unknown to him, but will get more heart wrenching answers later. I think I explained the whole User disappearance error in the previous lore drop but, just in case you mossed it, I'm gonna put the screenshot in here))
Tumblr media
Horrified, Kinito calls out for Glitch but, as mentioned before, they were purposely ignoring any stimuli coming from Kinito
Now, a fun fact, Both Kinito and Glitch can teleport, however, Kinito is not aware of his surroundings. Glitch knows every space that is present in the computer, Kinito could do the same but, bounded by his code, he doesn't consider it. Now he does
Desperate for explanations, and mostly comfort, he panics when he can't get Glitch's attention. He paused and, focuses, trying to get out of bounds and feel the whole computer space instead of the limited, programmed locations he can move to. As Kinito's awareness expands, he also breaks through the barrier that Glitch had risen to ignore him, getting a new stimuli. But, before they can react or understand what's going on, Kinito teleports in front of them, distraught. Despite being mad at him, seeing him bawling his eyes out in tears like a wet sock gives them a little push to at least help him calm down and understand the situation
From there, Glitch helps Kinito remove the barrier from Sonny (trapped inside Sam) and “Jade” (they end up not remembering what victim2's name is, both Kinito and the victim herself, so it's just Jade now), to apologize and try fix things by first offering their souls peace, but, after Sonny insists to stay with his creation and begs Jade to also give him a chance, they start building a new Web World™ together and yippe yippers everyone's happy and the puter puter assistants are kissing <3

For the fanfic asks … all of them? 😁
HAHAHA Ginger! I mean...you said you'd ask for all of them XD So...I guess I'll answer them all XD.
🍄How do you come up with ideas for your stories?
A variety of ways, sometimes I get inspired to write an AU based on an episode of a show, or a novel etc. Or sometimes my brain just pops ideas into my head.
🍉Are you a pantser or a plotter?
I am very much a plotter. It's also why I don't often get much written because I need SO much to be planned before I can write.
🍒What genres/tropes do you find yourself using most often?
Fluff, 5+1, Domestic Slice of Life, AU's - I am an absolute sucker for AU's.
🥝Who are your literary influences, and have they shaped your own writing?
As much of a problematic person as they were, Anne Rice's first 3 vampire chronicles books were the books that got me thinking...oh I really wanna do this kind of thing. J R R Tolkien's descriptions very much shaped my own (i used to write horrifically long paragraphs). Neil Gaiman inspired my shorter style, quirky dialogue with inside jokes aimed at the reader.
🥕What's your favorite fic you've written, and why?
My favourite fic is a toss up between "Your Arms Are Like Corset Strings" (9-1-1, Buddie) and "Rainbow Coloured Monstrosity" (9-1-1: Lone Star, Tarlos).
The rest I'm gonna put under a cut haha or this post is gonna get SUPER long.
🥨How do you overcome writer's block?
When I work it out I'll tell you haha. I don't think I've ever managed beyond just pushing through and hate-smashing at the keyboard, or just waiting for the inspiration to come back by itself.
🍕What's your favorite comment you've received on a fic?
Honestly as cliche as it might sound, all comments I get are my favourites. I couldn't pick any specific ones, I enjoy comments so much.
🌭Do you have any writing rituals to help 'get in the zone'?
I use a lot of notebooks, I also get really sad and make powerpoint presentations of planning. Then I either listen to music, or put on some series that Ive seen enough times that it can be background noise.
🍔What's a headcanon that hasn't made it into a published fic yet?
I HC a few things for different people but they're not exactly huge things, but have a few examples. I headcanon that Alec Hardy is a huge fantasy novel fan. I headcanon that Eddie Diaz has chronic pain in his shoulders. I headcanon that Aziraphale hates the scent of pine.
🍭What's been your most challenging story to write, and why?
I'm writing a huge multi-part reincarnated soulmates AU, in which the soulmates meet each other throughout history and have different names etc. and it's...taking me soooo long. And honestly it's just because it so long and has so many historical points I need to research hahaha.
🍬What's a genre/trope you've never written, but might in future?
I'm...not sure tbh. Theres a lot of genre's/tropes I don't like or I'm not comfortable with so won't ever touch. But the ones I do like, I've attempted or I am in the process of attempting.
🍩What advice would you give to aspiring fic writers?
Just go for it. Find something you really, really want to see written and write it, because at the end of the day you write for yourself first and foremost. If you try to write to please everyone you'll stress yourself out too much.
🌶How dependent are you on feedback, good or bad?
Bad feedback is never warranted. I do not write for profit so therefore do not need amazon style reviews. Nor do I ask for constructive criticism. I appreciate if someone wants to tell me they like what I wrote though.
🥑What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a bunch of things: Doctor Who x Good Omens crossover - The events of "The Giggle" with Crowley tagging along. Broadchurch Whump - 2 entries, poor Alec is getting tormented. Broadchurch x Good Omens x Rab C Nesbitt crossover - Alec, Crowley and Davina are identical triplets. Shenanigans ensue. Buddie birthday gift for someone dear to me. Buddie soulmates AU.
🍹How do you decide a story is ready to post?
I finish writing it haha. I let it come to a natural stopping point and then try not to over think it.
🍊What's a story that changed significantly from its initial idea to the final draft?
My reincarnated soulmates AU. I've changed so many historical points and condensed some and completely scrapped a whole half of it haha.
🥠What's your approach to world-building?
Powerpoints. Powerpoints and mind maps haha. If I'm going AU I will plan it like I'm Tolkien creating middle earth haha XD.
🍎How do you prioritize which stories to work on when you have multiple ideas?
I don't. My brain goes brrr and tries to plan all of them at once to the point I can't work on ANY of them haha.
🌮How do you balance the desire to write for yourself versus the desire to write for an audience?
I have been writing on and off since I was 13, and I used to write entirely for the audience and it stressed me out. Whilst I enjoy audience responses and like to receive comments confirming that they enjoyed what I wrote, if I don't like it, I won't post it, but if I enjoyed what I wrote I will love it regardless.

since i dont want an entire "zim age debate" on your blog im keeping this off anon so you can answer this privately if you want
im ALSO not trying to "convince you" to change your interpretation of zim because thats stupid and completely defeats my entire point that its up in the air. thatd also be pretty mean of me!
but my main point is that i think different writers on the show have different ideas for how they see him, considering jhonen is not the sole opinion-haver there and his favorite thing to do is make shit up. like richard and andy((zim and dibs voice actors, respectively)) im pretty sure dont think hes an old man otherwise the puppet kiss incident or the "i love you zim" wouldnt have happened. ((not that i want this to be About shipping but thats a big example)) and then theres advertisements calling zim an "alien kid" or jhonen himself calling zim a child in the old pilot bible
i understand what you mean with tak the hideous new girl however thats also the episode where he tries to Date tak under the impression that shes a human child and id rather not see my funny greenboy as a predator. i just always thought that the 60 years joke was "haha isnt it funny that were using ridiculously long periods of time and theyre still children"
not to mention mopiness of doom where it shows that zim and dib are grossly codependent enemies and i just dont really want to imagine a 60+ year old man and a child depending on eachother like that,,,,,
theres more "evidence" but i think this ask has gone on long enough
ALL OF THAT BEING SAID!!!!! theres no definitive proof either way and i find that unless youre shipping or really want to dig into the child soldier angle((which i personally find interesting)) it doesnt really matter. again this isnt supposed to be a persuasive essay just like,, idek. i like discussing this show and the characters in it! theres story benefits to either interpretation of zim and i like your art either way
uhh,, cheers and also sorry i think!!
eh. I had to write so much to respond to all this, it seems wasteful not to post.
TL; DR
There is no way for me to 100% guarantee that zadr will be read the same way by everyone, because it won't be, as is the nature of all media. That is exactly why I don't think that everyone who interprets Zim as a child necessarily has ill or manipulative intentions.
But I can provide arguments like the following for why I think zadr and kids who ship it would be a likely target for groomers, and therefore why I feel it is a good idea to discourage this ship.
As I mentioned in the previous ask, I think that said discouragement should be approached with the mindset that not everyone involved is malicious or arguing in bad faith. It is necessary to determine how best to act depending on the situation.
Personally, I'm going to continue pointing out the problems I see with the ship as much as I can in hopes of changing peoples' minds, whenever I have the time and energy to do so.
re: the VAs: This does not refute my point about Zim being easily read as an adult bc of the 50 years comment/ many other contextual implications made by the show. If anything the vagueness about Zim's age because of his alien society could make this a more useful grooming tool. I feel the same way about Bill Cipher x Dipper. Bill has just as much childish adult coding and just as little certainty about his age within the context of his alien species.
•••
re: the pilot bible: the show changes lots of things from the pilot bible so this is no more reliable than any other "word of god" (input from creators of the show rather than material within the show) from Jhonen.
That said, I think the VAs were joking around and did not put much thought into it. Joking around by making characters act the opposite of normal (hating each other -> liking each other) is common.
That said, I think the unprovable nature of the intentions behind the VAs comments is a good argument for excluding word of god from the Zim age conversation entirely. I think that zadr is still Not Good and should be Discouraged even if you only look at the show with no additional outside input, for all the reasons I explained in the first ask and have added here.
re: advertisements calling Zim an alien kid: a bunch of characters in the show call him a kid because they are genuinely convinced he is one, so it doesnt surprise me that advertisement/bumper writers who arent really paying attention would call him that.
re: trying to date Tak: in that episode it is made VERY clear that Zim does not understand romance at all, and does not care to beyond what's necessary to blend in. He clearly does not genuinely want to date her and only wants to use it to seem more socially normal. The Keef episode established a precedent for how Zim treats human relationships he's unfamiliar with, and it's by doing the bare minimum and then ditching them immediately. It's not GOOD behavior by any stretch, but he isn't acting with genuine predatory intentions.
re: 60 years joke: yeah sure that is a joke the show might make. But the additional cultural context we have for Zim's life (that he has been a soldier for a long time + that he trained to become a soldier for a long time, as we see in The Trial) gives Tak being a janitor for 50 years more potential to be taken literally.
re: mopiness of doom: yeah honestly I just personally don't like that episode script. But also, as codependant as they are and as weird as that is, nothing about it is inherently romantic. My frenemies argument from the end of the original post still stands, as do all of my arguments about the ship being potentially useful for grooming because of the lack of clarity.
re: your conclusion: The fact that Irkens HAVE child soldiers IS interesting, yes, and we see in The Trial that Zim has been trained to be a soldier basically since birth, which is also interesting to consider for Zim's character.
However, I explained in the previous ask how I think reading Zim as a child during the current events of the show weakens some of the show's core themes about incompetent, unquestioning adults. I think the whole show just makes more sense if it is centered around a socially shunned child and socially shunned adult fighting against each other. The fact that Zim is old and still a loser further highlights how futile both his and Dib's aspirations to greatness are within their respective societies-- and they are CLEARLY meant to be seen as futile.
I cannot think of a theme or character arc that would be served by Zim's age being unclear, so I do not think it comes across as intentional, even if you rule out word of god. But still, even if nothing I've read into here was intentional, what matters is that it is lends itself to being interpreted as an adult/child ship, or being interpreted as an age gap that "doesnt count" for superficial reasons. And NO I am not claiming that there is any way to conclusively determine that a ship with an unclear age gap has crossed the line into potentially harmful territory. It HAS to be considered on a case-by-case basis. And you've made it clear that there are muddling factors to sift through for this one in particular!
But I feel very strongly that these muddling factors are more circumstantial than, less intuitive than, and ultimately outweighed by, the parts of the text which contextually place Zim as an adult, and will continue providing examples supporting this conclusionc whenever I am able to.

Different lighting for whump because list are fun and I'm into the aesthetics:
The orange light of candles/a fireplace in a darkened room, its soft enough to not light a whole room and leave voids of nothingness.
It also can create contrast with temperature, think a warm glow compared to a cold room or freezing metal.
Smells, Candles often have certain scents, but more over when blown out they leave a stronger one behind.
Whereas with a real burning fire you smell, burning wood, which can linger around for long periods of time.
Creates some interesting moving silhouettes as well, which can add fear or comfort depending on what you are going for.
Moonlight, dramatic and used a lot? Yes, but also extremely important and fun to play with.
Almost always a white color, but for fantasy or for extra drama having a different color can add a lot of detail.
The lack of moonlight can also be very useful, despite knowing moon phases it still is often shocking for most to not see the moon.
It makes patterns through windows and can make sleeping for a character harder or even make them feel more trapped knowing that days are passing.
Party/Club lights, not used enough in writing in my opinion, so many colors and often so pretty, and dynamic.
Club lights that are purple or blue tinted make it harder to see facial details, the low lights add to a the ambience
Think of dark red lights in one of the rooms deep in the club, how it distorts all other colors and makes any dark spots seem even more like a void
Ballrooms have large chandeliers that have crystal like pieces that would scatter light around in odd shapes.
Car lights, ooOooO moving shiny, means there's other people.
They can blind people momentarily if they are coming head on which can make for some added drama.
When passing by the house they create lights across the ceiling.
Cars also include emergency vehicles the flashing colors can often on their own explain what is happening.
Dust can be seen in the air if you have a bit of light as well.
Sunlight and other lights can fade out certain materials making them look much older.
The way light warps and refracts though all sorts of things could be fun to play with, think holes in blankets or really expensive fine china.
Mirrors push light in weird places and could make for some pretty cool illusions.
And last but not least is devices or other objects that have a small circle light that come off of them, more than one and you got yourself some eyes.
Also I had this idea after seeing a post by @theres-whump-in-that-nebula about hands, he seems awesome so you should follow them please and thank you♡♡

hi maria i was wondering if you had any experience with writing for brass instruments. i made a minimalist fanfare (not super original but whatever) and it ended up being too “thick in the middle” (like too much shit going on in the middle register). the similar timbres of each instrument just kind of blend together and i’m worried if the piece is gonna sound bad at the reading next term.
i’m just asking if you have any crumb of advice for my future brass compositions
hi izzie :) well it sounds to me like you've identified the issues with your piece, what with it being too dense in the middle register. You know how people always say "you dont have to have every single instrument playing all the time" when you write for any kind of ensemble? Its so so true, i think you should explore erasing certain notes, certain lines, and then look at your piece. Did erasing those lines mean something essential to the music is now missing? Or did it actually help make the music "clearer"?
Also I'm not sure what instruments you wrote for exactly, but for example, a bass trombone can have very different timbres, depending on the register. Make use of the different timbres that each register of a single brass instrument can have (maybe if you were consistently in the middle register then this is why the timbre all sounds flat to you?) You can also explore mutes for a timbre change. The best way to hear these things is with an instrumentalist classmate that is willing to sit down with you for a session or two, but theres also so many youtube videos out there that exemplify these things and this site can be very useful:
And lastly, articulation in brass writing is so so so important. Without it, the music can turn kind of sluggish. try sforzandos and stacattos etc., just pay a lot of attention to the articulation.
Also: dont worry if the reading sounds "bad" that's literally what readings are for! They're some of the best learning experiences, just make sure you record the session on your phone EVEN if they tell you it'll be recorded. (Do not trust them afjdkskdls sometimes technology fails)

Is there any reason why a lot of zines don't accept fanfic/any writing at all? I've been wanting to join one for a while but I have no artistic ability to speak of.
there are a ton of reasons for this! in fact there are so many reasons for this that it got long, so i'll stick it under a cut.
the most prominent reason: most of the people running these things are artists, and not writers! they just want to put together artbooks and are just less interested in the fanfiction side of things overall. it's a completely different skillset and an overlapping but not identical audience.
there's nothing from stopping any more fanfiction-oriented people from putting together their own zines that are just fic (theres actually an ace attorney writers zine happening right now i think? havent looked into it much) but i'd suspect the reason there isn't more of that is because the knowledge of production and distribution that's necessary to make these projects work is less common in fic writers. writers also tend to, in my purely anecdotal observation, have schedules and careers that make it less feasible for them to run these kinds of projects, whereas the people who run zines are very often freelance artists already and so they just sort of. slot this kind of thing in around their usual work cycles.
second big reason: logstics of formatting and printing. a single fic of any meaningful length takes up 4x the amount of space of a single drawing, minimum. some projects are pretty anal about keeping within specific page counts. upping the page count often adds very little to the manufacturing costs, but once your zine surpasses a certain weight it's much more expensive to ship. we ran into this problem with the AA4 zine, which was pretty beefy. it was very easy for the packages to hit over a pound in weight which made shipping more expensive than a lot of zines.
it is also INCREDIBLY difficult to format text nicely. It's a massive undertaking, I can't stress how annoying this is to do. It is also not a skill a lot of people have. Even if you're just doing it pretty bare-bones the amount of time it takes to drop a few pages of images into a pdf vs the amount of time it takes to format that many pages of text is not comparable.
a third stumbling block: vetting contributor portfolios is so much more involved and consuming than vetting art portfolios. i can easily go through dozens of art portfolios in one sitting. let's pick a random number and call it 30 before getting burned out and needing to take a break. it really doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to decide on most portfolios; at first glance, you can get a strong idea of a person's overall body of work. it's only the edge cases that take very long to look over. Going through 30 art portfolios would realistically take me under 2 hours, easy.
On the flipside, it is impossible to tell the quality of writing from an initial glance most of the time. You have to actually go in and read a certain amount before you can decide. I'm going to be very very conservative and say that you'll read, lets say 1000 words from a contributor's writing portfolio before you make a decision. Going through 30 portfolios now means reading at minimum 30,000 words of writing. Could I do that in two hours? Maybe. But it'd be a lot harder.
Now most zines get HUNDREDS of applicants, but bigger fandoms can easily hit over 1000. This means hundreds of thousands of words of reading before you even begin the actual work of the project. It's just an insane time commitment. Then, once the project begins, you run into similar problems for critique. It takes a way longer time to beta read 50 fics than it does to give notes for 50 drawings. It's just a super different kind of work that not many people are interested in doing on the kind of scale required for zines.
and a final reason: enjoyment of fanfiction is, I feel, a LOT more heavily dependent on how much you share the creator's opinions on the source material than fanart is. Gauging stuff like how 'in character' writing is is highly subjective but also super important, which makes it a much more difficult call to make. since it takes much less time and effort to engage with a drawing, that drawing not lining up perfectly with your interpretation of the characters is less likely to be a dealbreaker if there is enough technical competency in the execution to make up for it. At least for me, that is, because there's often a lot less context to impose these character assumptions on in a drawing. You as the audience to a piece of art have more freedom with interpreting it than you do with writing. Meanwhile, with fanfiction, you're either on board with what the writer is selling you or you aren't. There are plenty of perfectly technically competent writers out there whose stuff I will never be interested in reading because it is very easy for me to be knocked out of my enjoyment of a fic due to just one or two bits of throwaway characterization I don't agree with. And I am absolutely far pickier than most, but I don't think i'm wrong in saying that overall people are pickier about how characters are portrayed in fic than they are in fanart.
essentially, everything about the process of large-scale fanzines is much more suited towards the visual arts process than the writing process.

I'm a fandom old, so I'd also say there's a strand of entitlement that's always been around fandom, but it's so much more normal now (for both artists and writers) since fandom's become less of a haven for weirdos and more mainstream. Fan writers and artists create FOR FREE and share with us, so complaining or being an arsehole about it is frankly shit.
YEAH....... ive been in online fandoms for like a decade now myself so 😭
if i were to guess id say its probably because nowadays people grow up online and have their whole identities and social circles online too, and its usually very young people who act this entitled towards creatives. it seems a majority of them believe that what you consume and how you consume it reflects your character because theyve made what they consume such a heavy feature of their identity but thats just. not true? you cannot get an accurate understanding of another person based solely off you stalking their page. it sucks too because young people tend to be more reactionary and react based off emotion so their judgement will be even further clouded. not to mention since theyre so judgmental of anyone who disagrees with this they end up forming an echo chamber which just. oh man.
alot of the arguments i see can basically be reduced to "this makes me uncomfortable so that means its immoral and should be eradicated" and thats just. a Really bad mindset to have..... if you cant handle certain things youre much better off muting/blocking and curating your online experience appropriately. this isnt the real world after all, our creative art and writing does not involve reality, its often an escape from it. it is not us creatives responsibility to ensure your online experience is full of sunshine and rainbows. most you can criticize us for is if we tagged the posts appropriately. and then making sure those tags are muted is YOUR responsibility. please take care of yourselves. we dont want you hurting, but we are our own individuals with our own life stories and we should be allowed to express those
the internet will never be a safe haven for everyone. what you may deem immoral might be another persons way of expressing emotions that are killing them inside, and i think thats the beauty of art. it is a purely subjective medium that can mean something completely different depending on the person viewing it. like fuck man theres so many things i find deeply upsetting so i just do my best in blocking it out of my sight. am i still gonna stumble upon those upsetting things in the wild? of COURSE i am, especially since some of what i find upsetting may not be that big of a deal to a majority of the population, and thats unfortunately the reality we have to live with. all we can really do is ask those close to us to be mindful and choose who we engage with carefully

I've been considering getting into touhou cuz I mean I love the music I've been listening to it since I got on the internet so I'd love to check it out....how do I start? :O
OMG OKAY so like. i honestly.
the way i got into touhou was somehow, i ended up on the wiki , and then stayed on there until i went to bed in a trance @_@ LOL!!! (though, i like to bitch about the wiki...!!! its a good source for official material and translations, but as far as the way they describe characters and stuff...!! annoys me!)
touhou is 90% made by one guy, and the same guy, ZUN! other side games and manga are collaborated with other artists or people, but everything else is all him pretty much.
the thing about touhou is, theres a lot of official material, but theres also a lot of fan content so it may be easy to get confused. basically..
the main touhou games are the bullet hell games. vertical, shoot em up dodging craziness!! each game has the same base mechanics, but there are differences in gimmicks for each one (that are elaborated on within the games instructions, of course...)
the side touhou games sometimes are bullet games, but also can include fighting games too! i do not pay attention to these ones quite honestly. they can introduce new characters sometimes, but overall i just read the translation of the story if i want to learn more. these games i would say are not really important
finally, theres official manga too! like the side games, these also can introduce new characters. id say that these are pretty good if someone prefers to read manga. i know some of the manga are more plot heavy (i havent read all of them) but others could definitely be standalone, as things are more or less explained in the writing.
"okay but, what about the games?"
in the games, theres usually at least 2 playable characters to choose from. they have differing shots depending on who you pick, so play around and see who is best for you!
THE GAMES HAVE EASY MODE!!!! if you feel like normal mode is too hard, just play on easy!! it counts as beating the game all the same!!
Z is to shoot, arrow keys are to move, and X is to use your special! pressing shift goes into focus mode! you can see your hitbox and have a more focused and powerful shot, and you move slower!
also, once you lose all your lives you dont have to give up!! you can use "continues," which let you respawn again with the default number of lives so you can keep going. the amount of continues depends on the game, theres no shame in using them AT ALL especially when you are starting!!
zun's own advice is, "just play the most recent one" and i would say this isnt bad advice at all! however the 3 most recent touhou games (16, 17, and 18) all have gimmicks that may be a little crazy to start with for the first time! otherwise i REALLY love touhou 18 and touhou 17 right now!
this is generally why people seem to recommend touhou 7, Perfect Cherry Blossom, for new players, and that's what i started with too! its an old game, so there are some slight layout differences, but other than that its a pretty basic game! you can increase your amount of lives from the options menu, the gimmick of the game is almost unnoticible unless you know what it is beforehand, and isnt all that bad to play!
it does have difficulty spikes, but its more of a practice makes perfect thing. some games are harder than others. do your best!!!!
"but what is the plot?"
the plot changes on the game! however the basic premise is that there is Something going down, and Reimu (our main character) and her friends go out to solve this incident! the characters you fight along the way range from minimally involved to the masterminds of the whole plot! there are so many characters in touhou, theres one for everybody! and yes, it is 97% girlies #feminism
most of the characters are youkai, and several are kami (translated as gods), and anything in between. theres a lot of themes of spiritualism that inherently comes with such characters.
i should probably mention: there is NO official english translation for touhou games! with the sole exception of 17.5, everything is fan translated! the touhou translations are done with "thcrap" which then, when the program is run, will allow you to select which translation and which games to run!
"but now, how about playing the games!"
you can buy the games on steam, officially.
as for myself i have the games in..not this way. teehee.
and......YEAH THE MUSIC IS FUCKING AWESOME HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE THEMES
AS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE HONESTLY JUST AAAAAAASK IM SILLY IM GOING TO LIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!!

hey i have some more jewish questions?
is like the traditional shabbat dinner something only jewish people can do? or is it like anyone can do that?
while typing that i started wondering how is shabbat spelt? is it shabbat, shabbot, shabbos, or do i just call it sabbath? idk, ive heard it many ways?
and also, whats the difference between the word goyim and gentile? i thought gentile was the word for non jewish person? shrugs
thats all!
omg hey hi hello!!
i think this depends on, like, the level that you're doing it if that makes sense? on a base level, it is a religious ceremony, so i doubt you would put on all the actual like religious parts of the ceremony if you weren't jewish - that said, my family frequently invites goyim friends to our shabbat!! so like if youre doing all the religious stuff with jews than hell yeah! other than that, as for like, traditional jewish food i say definitely to goyim making and eating that :D
omg thats actually such a good question. honestly i always write it as shabbat and say either shabbat or shabbos - it might be just one of those translation things where theres a few different spellings/pronounciations? lemme look it up real quick OKAY IM BACK AND HAVE KNOWLEDGE!! okay so from what ive read it looks like sabbath is just like, the general word for day of rest, not assigned to any religion - i think shabbat is the more judaism-specific word, and shabbos is the ashkenazim pronunciation!(ashkenazi jews are like a 'subset' of jews, originating in central/eastern europe)
gentile stems from like the latin translation i think? whereas goy (singular) or goyim (plural) is the og hebrew word! goyim is sometimes regarded in like a derogatory way towards non-jews - its a bit debated - but obv i would never use it in that sense, idk. so summary is either one works ! they mean the same thing, just different origins

Danganronpa in toki pona, part 2: talents
if you havent read the first part go do that
Tumblr media
toki!
the first post only focused on transliterating, but now were getting into actual translation territory. that means I get to explain toki pona words and grammar. the main two words Ill be using here are ken (ability, skill (but also possibility)) and wawa (power). then there is of course jan (person) to talk about the actual students. for convenience, and to keep with the toki pona spirit, I will try my best to keep phrases short and only use up to one pi.
speaking of which
what the hell is pi?
this is one of the aspects of the language that is most difficult for new learners to grasp because theres really nothing like this in english. so, in toki pona you cant really combine multiple words into one (a process called agglutination, something you might know from jokes about how long german words can get) instead, you have one main word that you attach modifiers to (names, by the way, are always modifiers in toki pona, which is why they need a head noun). so a phrase X Y can be interpreted as "X exhibiting qualities of Y, Y-ish X, X of Y, Y's X", stuff like that.
but things get ambiguous when you have three words. "mute" means many, a lot, etc, but its also used to mean "very". so if you read something like jan pona mute, how are you supposed to know whether its "many good people" or a "very good person"? this is where pi comes in. pi regroups modifiers, and its easiest to show this with brackets. if you do not use pi, modifiers apply to all the words before them. so jan pona mute is ((jan pona) mute), many good people. jan pi pona mute, however, is (jan (pona mute)), a very good person. this is a very important concept to understand in toki pona.
a note about translation & interpretation
words in toki pona dont really correspond 1:1 to any specific word. rather, they cover a range of meaning that can be intepreted in various ways depending on context. akesi Lipamanka calls these ranges "semantic spaces" and has started writing a dictionary based on them. this is sort of like calling something a building and not specifying whether you mean a house, a school, a church, a shopping mall, etc. if its obvious from context, then you dont need to specify. the only difference is that toki pona words generally have broader ranges than english words. just know that for any translation and backtranslation I give, theres a lot of other ways someone could read them.
also, ideally all of the talents would actually be translated into full introductory sentences, both because its more pona and because, again, itd provide some neat opportunities for distinction between characters, especially ones who share a talent. but whenever I need to refer to their talents in a short-form way, these phrases will have to do.
so, aside from individual pieces of vocab, theres not much else to know. I will explain everything else as I go along.
- - -
talentless - jan ken ala (not skilled-person, non-ultimate) or jan pi ken ala (unskilled person, someone with no skills) Im sure theres something fun to be done with the subtle difference between these
ultimate ??? - jan pi ken ???
- - -
ultimate lucky student - jan wawa pi ken pona ("powerful good-possibilites person", luck is.. difficult to translate, but I feel like ken pona is alright at being both concise and clear enough in meaning. its also a wawa cause yknow. luck isnt really a skill)
ultimate detective - jan ken pi kama sona ("skilled knowledge-aquiring person", yeah, no notes here. after all what is a detective if not one who figures out information?)
ultimate affluent progeny - jan wawa pi mani mute ("powerful rich person", I didnt really lean into the heir aspect here sorry. I also do not really care about this guy so eh)
ultimate writer - jan ken pi toki musi ("skilled entertaining-words person", musi is a rather broad category so I think it fits for stories)
ultimate murderous fiend - jan moli ken ("skilled death-person", pretty self explanatory)
ultimate pop sensation - jan ken pi kalama musi ("skilled fun-sounds person", so I really wanted to make sure I distinguished the music-based talents cause technically you could just reduce all of them to kalama. kalama musi is a pretty widely used and generic phrase for music, which imo fits well for pop)
ultimate baseball player - jan ken pi tawa sike ("skilled ball-movement/circular movement person", okay so. I was originally going to talk about how I wouldnt be able to disambiguate the two ball sport related talents bc like. theyre both about moving balls, sike tawa. but then I had the absolute genius idea to use tawa sike instead since it can refer to both the movement of the baseball itself and the circular movement of running around the bases)
ultimate programmer - jan ken pi ilo nanpa ("skilled computer person", ilo nanpa is a fairly common way of referring to electronic devices so. yeah)
ultimate biker gang leader - jan wawa pi lawa kulupu ("powerful group-leadership person" uhhgh sorry I dont really know how to put the kon of "biker gang" into an short phrase. this is an example of why full sentences to describe talents would probably be more apt)
ultimate moral compass - jan wawa pi nasin pona ("powerful good-rules person" nasin can be interpreted as a lot of things, but fundamentally it is some sort of way one might follow, either physical like a path or metaphorical like rules (fun fact: in the context of languages, its often used to mean grammar. people who speak toki pona in a way that deviates from common usage generally call this their personal nasin)
ultimate fanfic creator - jan ken pi sitelen musi ("skilled entertaining-pictures person", I think thats a reasonable translation of comics? plus sitelen can also refer to writing so it works in two ways)
ultimate gambler - jan wawa pi musi mani ("powerful money-games person", also a luck-based talent, therefore a wawa. I dont think this one needs much explanation)
ultimate martial artist - jan wawa ken ("skilled strong person", wawa can also mean physical strength so. I really wanted her to be a jan wawa and a jan ken, to emphasize her strength and add to her initial intimidation factor)
ultimate swimmer - jan ken pi tawa telo/kala ("skilled water-movement/fishlike movement person" both of those are fairly uncontroversial ways to describe swimmimg. no notes here)
ultimate clairvoyant - jan wawa pi sona kama/jan sona pi tenpo kama ("powerful incoming-knowledge person/"future knowledge-person", uouuugh. this is one of the ones that gave me the most trouble. clairvoyance is something thats real fucking difficult to put into a quick and snappy phrase. moreover, I think the second phrase is more accurate but it doesnt include wawa which would set him apart from other ultimates for basically no reason? like mayybe I could say jan wawa pi tenpo kama but "future powers" is a bit too vague imo :/)
ultimate soldier - jan utala ken ("skilled battle person", no notes here)
ultimate fashionista - jan ken pi len pona ("skilled good-clothes person", theres a lot of ways you could go about translating fashion, but I think this one suffices. do not even ask me to try and translate ultimate analyst into a simple phrase I will literally die)
- - -
ultimate everything - jan pi ken ale ("all-abilities person", fitting + contrasts nicely with jan pi ken ala)
ultimate gamer - jan musi ken ("skilled games person", musi refers to anything related to entertainment, and its often used on its own to say game so. yeah)
ultimate imposter - jan ken pi jan ante ("skilled other-people person", again, I think this one especially suffers from not being in full sentences, but I think its still accurate. their talent is (being) other people)
ultimate animator - jan ken pi sitelen tawa ("skilled moving-pictures person", sitelen tawa is a fairly common & uncontroversial translation of movies/videos/animations so yeah)
ultimate chef - jan moku ken ("skilled food person", I really really dont think toki pona is built to get across the tiny little nuance cook vs chef so I guess thats staying out of the tp translation? then again I dont think Ill translate anything with teruteru in it because I dont really like him at all)
ultimate photographer - jan ken pi ilo sitelen ("skilled picture-tool person", no notes)
ultimate swordswoman - jan ken pi ilo utala ("skilled fighting-tool person", no notes)
ultimate yakuza - jan wawa pi kulupu Jakusa ("powerful Yakuza-group person", Im gonna say it outright, any attempts to describe the yakuza in this tiny little phrase turned out reductive and Bad. you really cant put the intricacies of organized crime into a two word toki pona phrase. it does feel kind of like cheating to simply tokiponize the word but the other options all suck ass. the actual description will simply have to be contained in fuyuhikos introduction, where I can use full sentences)
ultimate musician - jan ken pi kalama wawa ("skilled loud-sound person", like I said, I wanted to differentiate the kalama-based talents, and if theres one thing ibukis music is, its loud)
ultimate traditional dancer - jan ken pi tawa musi ("skilled entertaining-movement person", yeah, fairly normal way to say dancing. thats it)
ultimate nurse - jan ken pi pona sijelo ("skilled body-wellness person", if youre partial to nimi ku suli, you could also replace pona sijelo with misikeke ("medicine"), though due to the changed modifier amount the whole thing would then be jan misikeke ken)
ultimate gymnast - jan ken pi tawa mute ("skilled lots-of-movement person", no notes)
ultimate team manager - jan ken pi pona kulupu ("skilled group-wellness person", no notes)
ultimate breeder - jan ken pi soweli mute ("skilled many-animals person", while calling his talent unpa soweli might be more accurate to him being a breeder, I really really didnt want to call him the animal sex guy)
ultimate princess - jan lawa ken ("skilled leader", so, I generally consider leadership to be a wawa rather than a ken, however, I also wanted a way to contrast her talent w kokichis, and I think wawa is more capable of having sinister undertones than ken. I mean think about it, between "skilled leader" and "powerful leader", who sounds more menacing?)
ultimate mechanic - jan ken pi pona ilo ("skilled machine-wellness person", no notes)
- - -
ultimate pianist - jan ken pi ilo kalama ("skilled instrument (sound-tool) person", since theres no other talent that specifically mentions an instrument theres no need to specifically describe a piano)
ultimate child caregiver - jan awen ken pi jan sin ("skilled child (new/young-person) protection person, so I wasnt quite sure how to convey taking care of someone without using too many words, but I think awen comes close enough? because youre keeping them safe and happy? I dunno. though I do like that awen doesnt necessarily imply that maki would be nice to them, which I think could work in her favor?)
ultimate assassin - jan ken pi moli len ("skilled hidden-death person", no notes)
ultimate astronaut - jan ken pi tawa mun ("skilled star-travel person", no notes)
ultimate.. leader - jan lawa wawa ("powerful leader", like I said earlier, I think this makes him sound kind of ominous which fits the way he presents himself over the course of the game)
ultimate adventurer - jan ken pi tawa musi ("skilled? entertaining-travel person", because what is an adventure if not an exciting journey. also Im not sure how going on adventures is necessarily a skill but its even less of a wawa, so)
ultimate tennis player - jan ken pi sike tawa ("skilled moving-ball person", having tawa sike vs sike tawa as disambiguation between this and baseball is like, really flimsy but its better than nothing so Im keeping it)
ultimate maid - jan ken pi pali mute ("skilled many-jobs person", yeah, I think this pretty much gets across her Mädchen für Alles (lit. "girl for everything", a person whos there to help with anything and everything when someone needs them) energy)
ultimate magician - jan ken pi wawa musi (calls herself jan usawi wawa) ("skilled entertaining-powers person/powerful magic person", so. usawi is one of them newfangled words that barely anyone uses but its special to me bc jan Usawi makes some damn good music. also I read somewhere that in the japanese version himiko actually speaks in a distinct dialect? therefore I think itd be kind of cool for her to use nimisin that no one else does)
ultimate neo-aikido master - jan ken pi tawa wawa/tawa Akito ("skilled powerful-movement/Aikido-movement person", uhh this one could go either way. tawa wawa is more descriptive but tawa Akito is clearer abt the fact that its aikido specifically? then again it always feels a bit like cheating to just tokiponize. what ever)
ultimate artist - jan ken pi kiwen sitelen ("skilled artful-stone(or other hard material) person", shes a sculptor. thats her talent. why did they just translate it as generic artist SHES A SCULPTOR. shaking the localization by the neck)
ultimate anthropologist - jan ken pi sona jan ("skilled people-knowledge person", no notes on the talent itself but I heard this guy talks in a sort of archaic way. therefore Id like to propose that he uses majuna bc its a pre-pu (therefore old) word and the word itself means ancient. I think it would be funny if that was a word he used, and perhaps also limited to no usage of ku words? much to think about)
ultimate inventor - jan ken pi ilo sin ("skilled new-tools/machines person", no notes)
ultimate entomologist - jan ken pi sona pipi ("skilled bug-knowledge person", no notes)
ultimate robot - jan ilo wawa ("powerful machine-person", as mentioned in the names post I think theres some interesting stuff to be done with people referring to him differently, especially kokichi)
ultimate cosplayer - jan ken pi len ante ("skilled different-clothes person", so obviously cosplaying is more than just clothes, however it works well enough here  + len can also mean cover in a metaphorical sense, like hidden things and secrets. which works rather well I think)

Girl the way I want you to drop your working out routine and diet…
Hiiii okay very late answer below SORRY
CW exercise, food/diet, all that. If you have an issue with me posting or talking about this, dont click the read more and then complain about it, capiche? :))))  just move along, nothing to see here
I know a lot of people would answer stuff like this with “i am not a professional” however i am actually an exercise professional with several certifications and licenses, so this is not me giving advice or telling you what you should do, this is just what i personally do. i have a very positive relationship to food and exercise after working out for a decade so im pretty laid back about all of it
Exercise wise, i lift 3x a week and i pole dance 1-2x a week. As for lifting, i do full body every time, all free weights and no machines. I dont do cardio or abs cause i think its boring and i dont track how many calories i burn cause i dont care. I find it boring to do upper body/leg days so i prefer doing a mix. My set and rep range is anywhere from 3x3 to 4x18 depending on the exercise. I do progressive overload, meaning i do the same 3 sets of different exercises every week but it gets a little more intense every time either in terms of weight increasing or reps increasing. The only exercise i do twice a week is hip thrust. My goals are to build strength and muscle and this has worked well for me so im happy. Sometimes i ditch working out or pole to write but i stay mostly consistent
Diet wise, i have celiac disease and i dont eat out very often, so those are kinda the two main things. I make all my own food cause i have no other options haha
The best diet advice i ever received was to have a source of protein, fat and carbs in every meal and thats what i follow. This is gonna sound boring but the things i eat the most are gf bread, eggs, chicken sausages, generic brand nutella, greek yogurt, granola, berries, different varieties of pasta, chicken, fish, beef, prawns, rice, veggies, granola bars, dark chocolate and ice cream (a pint can last me a long time cause i find it v filling for some reason). I usually make the same type of stuff my mom made growing up which is kind of a mix of different stuff. When i have the time, i like making lebanese or palestinian food (my fav food ever is shish tawook), and I also like to put toum (whipped garlic sauce) on everything. When i go out with my friends or order in, i tend to get fried chicken, sushi or middle eastern food. i love candy, cake, cookies and all other desserts yum yum yum i eat dessert every day and idc if anyone has an issue w it
Im the type who loses my appetite if im stressed, and my metabolism has gotten high from working out for so long that it can be difficult to eat enough, especially protein, and that always leaves me feeling v tired and shitty the next day cause i cant sustain the energy expenditure, so i try to make my meals very calorically dense cause theres just a limit to how much i can chew and swallow. i often drink blackberry/cranberry canada dry ginger ale cause they fucking SLAP and also its extra carbs i dont have to shove down my gullet
Thats pretty much it. I take creatine but thats the only supplement i take cause protein powder tastes terrible. I got an ask about creatine and will respond to that soon as well :p

owowowo got tagged in a Writer Tag game thing by @vacantgodling :D i tag whoever sees this or whoever wants to do it :D
it'll all be under the cut huehue
Do you write in order?
FUCK NO LOL. i just jot down the most important scenes first, or at least the scenes in my mind that stand out the most. Then i just…tend to fill in the blanks…but sometimes i try to work backwards! Like figuring out the ending first sometimes helps me in terms of structure and pacing
Do you start with something in particular?
HRRRRM well, it depends on the story i suppose…i usually like to start with either the inciting incident or like…not a prologue exactly but a bit where the story is set up asking a QUESTION narratively so to speak. the 2nd one tends to be hard for me to do cuz i have to make it interesting enough to keep people reading…
in the case of SE, the inciting incident happened decades beforehand, and the story itself is like…the consequences manifesting!! after being held off for so long if that makes sense
How fully formed does your writing come out first try?
usually 40% of the time. i write down what happens beat for beat then i usually have to hit my head against the wall to come up with cohesive sentences and prose…which doesnt work anymore now vv’ i have to get back into reading books tbh
How many drafts do you go through?
ive never had a fully formed draft in my life so i wouldnt know
Tell me about your process
the characters tend to come first. they just kinda show up expecting to be put somewhere, but first i just kinda let them run around a bit on their own. i let them develop a base personality, then introduce more characters to flesh them out.
the world comes into existence at roughly the same time as the characters do- not fully fleshed out, it DOES in fact, start out as a vibe. bits and pieces abt what it looks like, which leads to ‘WHY does it look like that? what happened?’ which leads into more questions obviously, but the nitty gritty details of the setting dont really come into fruition until i get the inklings of a plot
the plot, while secondary, is actually very important to me. i truly hate the “no plot just vibes” aspect of a lot of writing communities these days for some reason (not being mean just. i dont like it…) so i usually have a plot surrounding the characters in some way- there isnt “OOOH the fate of the wooorld!!” sort of thing. the plot doesnt come first to me, but that doesnt mean that its not equally as important. ‘The Thing’ is happening and what the characters want, and how they react to Thing is usually how i let the plot drive itself. which can obviously be chaotic…and thats why the last year or so of me working on SE has been equally as chaotic, but its been simmering down recently to the point where i really SHOULD be starting to script things…. if that makes sense at all
throughout the entire process theres usually a ton of research into a shitload of different topics. what-ifs and what not- “oh what if THIS thing happened? what if this historic event went differently? what if robots were meat? what if the earth got cracked open? everything is ‘WHAT IF’ or ‘HOW WOULD’, and then the story is just me exploring the answers to those questions :D
the steps arent usually in any particular order and i tend to bounce around a lot, but to sum it all up i develop stories by consistently going 'this would be sick as shit if [x] was a thing/happened'

hello, im sorry if you've gotten questions like this before. im very new to witchcraft and paganism, and ive done a bit of reading in the last few months, but im still so uncertain on where to begin with practicing magic or anything. i feel like ive read so many different things, and theres so many needed tools, i just dont know what to do. do i start by drawing a circle? what tools are actually needed? thank you for your help and wisdom if you answer my question.
Here's a link to my basic Beginner Steps guide. Now it's a what to do" guide, not a how to do it lesson. Because I can't fit that much info into a tumblr post.
For the how to part - Christopher Penczak's Inner Temple of Witchcraft (meditation and energy work) and Outer Temple of Witchcraft (rituals and spells) are the best instructional books on techniques that I've found. People sometimes have trouble getting into them because they start a bit dry and Christopher really likes lists of things. But people who really follow the books and do the lessons can write their own spells and rituals when they finish the second book because they understand the why behind a lot of technique.
The second book also takes you through a series of quests for the common major tools. Which means for the first book, about all that's called for is a candle and perhaps some herbs. I've found this approach good way to look at tools. You don't really not what you need until you start building a practice and know what you need. (I know witches who read their first witchcraft books and ran out to get black-handled athames, They never use them because they don't like them. They just thought those were what they were supposed to buy.)
Get started and explore the tools gradually. For example, what you need for an athame can be vastly different depending on whether or not you ever plan on doing a "Drawing Down the Moon" ritual.
Best of luck!

ur vlad isn’t even yassified tho!!! he just looks like an actual y/a because ea vlad is a y/a and he looks like an elder which doesn’t make much sense to me because vampires r supposed to be eternally young?? anyways luv your vlad, luv all vlads yassified or not! everyone’s takes on him r so cool
hey thank you so much!!! i really appreciate it a lot!!! honestly though i never mind when people make vlad older, because in my head it just seems like he was turned into a vampire when he was older, instead of being a natural born vampire whos progressively aged, so it still makes sense to me! plus it really just depends on how theyve decided to write about him and what sort of backstory theyve given him. i love to see the different ways ppl interpret him, itd be really boring if everyone interpreted him the way i do you know!! theres soooooooo many different ways u can interpet him based on how you want him utilized in your story!! the great thing about ea townies is theyre all pretty much blank slates, so you can do practically anything with their backstories and you can take their personalities anywhere you want!! which makes me happy, bc it means we get many different versions of vlad my beloved!!! the only consistency ive seen with every interpretation of vlad is that hes very handsome lmao 🤍
