Hear me out-- Whumpee getting a shave.

I was specifically thinking the old fashioned kind with a straight razor and a little bowl of shaving lather with a brush.

Maybe Whumpee isn't adjusting well to life After and their personal grooming habits haven't quite gotten back on track, which is significant because they used to be so immaculate and put together Before.

Caretaker probably knows this and after a few days carefully suggests that a shave might help to make Whumpee feel more like themself

Caretaker sits Whumpee on a stool, sharpens the blade on a strop (in my head this takes place in 1948 or something), and lathers the shaving soap.

Whumpee could be still and silent, perfectly pliable in Caretaker's hands as they lean Whumpee's head against their chest and hold the skin just so to keep the blade from knicking. And when Caretaker does accidentally knick Whumpee, Whumpee doesn't even flinch.

I drew these for the two actors who played Sweeney and Lovett at the production of Sweeney Todd I went to go see a few days ago. They were so so amazing and super fucking talented. I couldn't believe it when I was sitting in that audience. It was truly the best day of my entire life. I'm not even exaggerating. Watching my favorite show live and in person for the first time ever was incredibly life changing and I'm happy it was this cast.

I was able to give it to them via the stage manager, so I unfortunately didn't get to see their reactions first. However, a little bit later I had the stage manager find me and say that she had a few people who want to meet me. I got to meet the actors who played Sweeney and Lovett, and even Toby and the Beadle. I got to hug them and shower them in compliments etc. It was honestly a once in a lifetime experience. It was amazing.

To me, no production of Sweeney Todd will ever be as gut-wrenching as the 1982 production with George Hearn in Final Scene. How he holds Lucy so tightly, trying to bring her back to life, petting her, kisses her hoping it'll wake her, only having to accept what he's done as her head falls. Still he sings to her, wanting her back, wishing he wasn't so foolish. If only he found her sooner, if only he wasn't so blind by revenge, if only he was told the truth of her whereabouts. All he ever wanted was his family back in his arms. Not all this anger, all this blood, all this pain and sorrow. Just his Lucy and Johanna. George just portrays this pain so well.
