Today I celebrate six months of my sobriety 🎉🥳 It's been a difficult experience at times, yet one that's enriched my life in ways I hadn't expected. I was terrified during the first few weeks of giving up the booze, but as the days progressed, I slowly begun to realise just how much alcohol had been jeopardizing the my overall quality of life. Year after year, I'd been drowning my sorrows, growing forevermore miserable as a result. So many forgotten evenings, so many shameful faux pas, so many wasted weekends, so many regretful nights, and so many years of trying to hide away from my underlying problems. Although things still remain far from perfect in my world, I can confidently say I now feel more in control of my life than I've felt in decades, not to mention happier than I have been for a long time. The marvellous Utrecht brewery has been killing it in the low-alcohol scene in The Netherlands. And for good reason, it’s one of the best ones I’ve tried. The Playground IPA is a dark amber, citrusy ale with hints of grapefruit, apricot and herbal notes of pine on the nose. And only 0.5%! Luckily for me, this one of the most widely available low-alcohol beers. Seriously, I should have shared about this beer about 10 bottles ago. being authentic can be difficult at times- it’s a scary feeling to continuously put yourself in a position of vulnerability . for myself, admitting that i was an alcoholic was extremely difficult. i was afraid of the judgement, shame, & stigma that came along with it. i feared that people would tell me i’m too young to be an alcoholic & try to convince me otherwise . one day i made the decision to face my fears head on. i opened up about my disease. it was empowering to walk through my fears & insecurities- i was finally owning who i was . some of my fears panned out to be true, but it was worth it. next thing i knew, people were reaching out to me. i was able to help support them through their fears, insecurities, & adversities & it was a remarkable feeling! . today i am grateful for who i am. i have a new found love for myself- defects & all. & it all started by owning who i was & am. #recovery #alcoholic #sobriety #bossbabes #sobrietyrules

Yesterday I celebrated two years of freedom from drugs and alcohol. On that day two years ago, I learned there was a way out of the darkness I'd been shrouded by for so long. I learned that I no longer had to pretend "I'm fine." I learned that I wasn't that person who I became when I was possessed by drugs and alcohol - that person who I was ashamed of and drank to get away from. I learned that in order for me to become the greatest version of myself, I had to let go of the things I was a slave to. In admitting I had no control, I reclaimed my power, and I began a new life. A little over two years ago, I didn't care if I woke up in the morning. I hated every tomorrow, and I could never live for today. Now I know I never have to feel that way again. Today I am so, so grateful for my life. It is a miracle that I am still here. And because of that, I know that all things are possible. In the past two years I've made more strides than in the previous 7-10. I have faced incalculable fears - including standing up for myself and TRUSTING myself over everybody else. I have learned that I DO NOT have to be what the world tells me I should be. I have learned how to own all the parts of me, and, too, that them parts is poppin 💁🏽‍♀️ I have learned to love me. And that is the greatest gift I have ever known. I share this because I know there is someone who needs to hear this. I know there is someone who feels the way that I did when I was stuck in the insanity of drinking, and the convoluted rationalization of everything being "fine." I am here for you. I love you.
