Ashton Greymoore we need to work on your charisma because there's only so many times I can mentally yell "KISS HER GODDAMMIT" at the screen

Shuffle your favourite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. Then copy/paste this ask to your favourite mutuals <3 (ps if there's not at least 2 Swift songs in there I will be shocked)
❤️ I shuffled my On Repeat Playlist (I don't really have a singular favorite) and only got one Taylor Swift song somehow 😆 Fitting that it's shaping up to be my favorite from her latest album though. I do have two Olivia songs for you, however 😌
1. My Favorite Mistake - Sheryl Crow
2. obsessed - Olivia Rodrigo
3. Song About You - The Band CAMINO
4. Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? - Taylor Swift
5. girl i've always been - Olivia Rodrigo

I’ve read one of your post recently and you were mentioning Annie Ernaux’s Les Années, and so I was wondering what you thought of her getting the Nobel Prize for Literature this year? Kinda curious if I should give her a go :)
She is so unworthy of a Nobel !! I enjoyed Les Années and La Femme gelée but the rest of her books range from “meh, ok” (Les Armoires vides, La Place) to banal navel-gazing (Passion simple, Mémoire de fille). She tends to rehash the same stuff in book after book—not just the themes and specific memories and scenes but phrasings as well; if you read all of her books in quick succession you'll notice the same phrases and descriptions popping up in different books and it's like mate, you've already used similar words to tell a similar story, why did this warrant a new book...?
(She writes about the same childhood memories in the same way in three or four different books, but the worst example of rehashing is Se perdre. Her book Passion simple is a shortened and very slightly re-written diary she kept while having a humiliatingly one-sided ‘passionate’ affair with some guy who didn’t care about her—and a few years later she published Se perdre which is the actual (nearly 400-page!) diary she’d used as the basis for Passion simple, without shortening or revising it this time. And it’s like... you’ve now published your diary TWICE, and your affair with a married guy who’s a selfish arsehole really wasn’t a new or interesting story to begin with...)
All in all I don't think her body of work brings something significant and unique to world literature and I'm baffled by this decision. Then again Modiano and Le Clézio didn't deserve the Nobel either so I’m not sure how it works. I heard that Houellebecq was considered this year and that was a horrifying prospect, I loathe him and his writing. Plus he's a man and I personally think the Nobel for Literature should be given only to women writers for the next 85 years so we can reach a laureate ratio that's less grotesquely imbalanced than 17 women vs. 102 men.
(But that’s not an excuse for giving it to Annie Ernaux.)

watched all the available episodes of sousou no frieren today and surprised myself with how much i enjoyed it so i want to leave my thoughts here before i forget them; i think it would've been a lot more enjoyable if i was catching it from the start, but i ended up crying more than several times anyway
it's such a good concept to begin with, the storytelling is so compelling, and i really enjoyed the atmosphere in every episode. the worldbuilding is very good, we never really get exposition dumped but we learn things as the characters do, which keeps things believable and easy to stomach... plus, we always see stories about the defeat of the demon king, and much less the story of the aftermath, which got me interested in it in the first place. and especially when you add in the factor of time as a matter of inconsequence to frieren in comparison to everyone else especially with her personality... it's so satisfying seeing the exploration of things like the delicate balance between memories of the past and their inability to be changed with how they have influenced and shaped growth (of both the characters and the world) into the present, the passing of time and its varying (in)significance to the characters caught in its flow, the transience of life and (the learning of) what it means to live...
even then the flow of time passing is animated so well; there's this relentlessness to its passing, but despite that it flows like a calm river, clear and constant and steady, never hurrying, never drying. and mage's comment about it showcasing perfectly how frieren stays the same despite time passing is really neat too. on the flip side seeing how things have changed over time (the borrowing, adaptation, improvement of spells from demons which then go on to be adopted by mages is something i really fucking liked!! and the way fern uses the magic so casually as a way to demonstrate the development of magic turning a death spell into 'ordinary offensive magic' is so so good. frieren using this to teach her a history lesson was Also really good.)
it's hard to dislike any of the main characters when they show such strong cohesion of their complex pasts and personalities, and their actions do so well to showcase who they are even in battle (fern's precision and blunt simplicity stands out here). you can even see how they have changed each other over the course of their journey... frieren wanting to give up on finding the lost ring so not to slow the party down but fern insisting they'll stay until she finds it contrasting with her impatience with frieren spending months trying to find the blue moon weed at the beginning of their journey is something that stuck with me a lot
the other thing that stuck with me is the rebuilding of the original party not only thematically within their roles but also in influence by the original heroes (fern being taught by frieren and their noted similarity in the earlier episodes with regards to magic, stark being taught by eisen and the same way they express and approach fear, sein's choice not to become an adventurer being directly influenced by heiter not to mention their obvious similarities in habits)... and of those it's really fitting how frieren represents himmel's hero role now after she was influenced by her journey with himmel, especially with his death giving immense meaning to her new journey and frieren copying his actions because it's what he would do
but i enjoyed it... will be back next week..... waha.............

So some of my friends have never seen Buffy and we're watching through it. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, so there's a lot I don't remember.
We're on season 6 right now and I'm just-- what the fuck yo???
I know the show was technically supposed to end after season 5, but still, holy hell season 6 is a nightmare. I'm mad about everything honestly but I specifically wanna call out how Spike gets treated???
Cause like. What. The. Fuck???
They call this dude for everything. Like the moment something goes down they call him to help and he comes running every time. Makes sure Dawn is safe, takes care of anyone injured and makes sure they get to safety, is the other strongest fighter, knows a shitload about the supernatural world and if not where to find it. He's generally super fucking useful, and he's usually pretty damn cool and friendly with them unless someone's a dick first.
So WHY do most of the characters treat him like hes still horrible?? He literally spent the entire last season helping them. He took a freakin torture session from a GOD and nearly got dusted to keep Dawn safe. He also helped take care of Dawn after Buffy died.
Yet most of the group act like he's only out for himself and like he's just fucking evil all the time!
I remember being pissed when he got frozen out of Joyce's funeral too. They clearly had a friendly relationship, they watched soap operas together ffs. Spike routinely got called in to protect her and Dawn and did so without hesitation. There were plenty of times he and Joyce just shot the shit because he actually genuinely liked her. And yet he's not allowed to mourn her???
I don't get how you can depend on someone so obviously but then act like they're not part of the group??
Especially since its pretty fuckin obvious when they hurt his feelings. Its not like he tries to come off as cool and unaffected, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's actually probably one of the only characters to routinely demonstrate actual emotional intelligence and empathy.
It just... irks me to see him get treated like dirt routinely when he's been doing his best to show them he's friendly for years now.
And like "he tried to kill them" isn't really a good enough reason in this story?? Anya tried to kill them, and is an ex-demon. She's still welcomed into the group. Angel too, tbh and he did FAR more emotional damage. But like even though he's not around for long after, they still talk about him fondly and Buffy keeps in contact with him over the years. Amy tried to kill them too and she got brought back with all the over looked just fine too.
It just feels massively unfair and it pisses me off because there's not a good basis for it based on how his character changed. Even Spuffy, as much as I adore the ship, went all kinds of sideways largely due to Buffy being deadset on the idea that Spike could only be bad for her and treating him like it.
Yes, he rose to the bait and he shouldn’t have. But like. Imagine how painful its gotta be to have someone you love telling you how awful you are and how they could never truly love you because you're wrong somewhere deep in your core, and then sleeping with you anyway because you're hot therefore good enough to fuck, just not to love. That's FUCKED my dude.
It don't know what the hell their beef was with Spike but I hate it.
