Reverse Hallmark Christmas movie. A young woman from a small town winds up in the big city just in time for the holidays, and has to unlearn all of her preconceived notions about "those uppity city folk" she's always heard about. Helping change those notions is the young successful CEO who helps out at the homeless shelter downtown, and wants to use his business to improve the lives of underprivileged kids in his city.

Meanwhile, back in the small town, the young women's strapping hunk of a flannel-wearing boyfriend, who is also the town baker, is trying to convince her to leave the big city and come back home where she belongs. Those city folk don't know nothing about how "real people" live, after all.

Over the course of the movie, the young woman realizes that the lives of city people are every bit as real and important as the small town folk she's grown up with, and her boyfriend back home is a narrow-minded jerk with a sense of superiority over people who live in cities. She breaks up with him and chooses to stay in the city, and the CEO takes her to a big tree-lighting ceremony downtown, where they share their first kiss.

End with a montage of the young woman becoming involved in and helping to expand the CEO's philanthropic efforts all over the city.

I'm always bewildered by fictional relationships where an ex is characterized in such a way that is clearly framed in a way that wants you to side with the POV character, but the circumstances are like, "Honestly, your ex is fully valid in this situation and I hope they find someone who deserves them because you sure didn't."

i've spent the past couple days outlining a couple different long-fic ideas so i have something to build off on when i go on christmas holidays and the reiner/reader fic i have plotted feels like a hallmark movie 💀💀

#big city girl goes back to her small town for a funeral and reconnects with her high school sweetheart #who just so happens to be the community organizer and local project coordinator #and reader's current job as (some corporate bs) becomes a valuable asset in helping reiner with a big community event #strong themes of grief and the transformative power of shared experiences in healing #blah blah blah oh and it's christmas #there's probably 30 hallmark movies with this exact plot #although im suffering from writers block i've been outlining like crazy #ive written four whole fics in point form!! start to finish!! plus themes and foreshadowing!! #i just gotta turn these bullet points into chapters 💀

We just assumed you knew and weren't drawing attention to it. The city council definitely did not authorize the booth of that old man who sold it to you, and shortly after you left it fully disappeared. We were talking about that for days, where were you?? Probably having sex with a nutcracker I guess. Please open the bakery back up. We have so little and your moping is really bumming out the gazebo.

A reverse Hallmark christmas movie, where a simple small-town guy has to go to the big city in order to do a thing, and encounters a serious no-nonsense businesswoman who has never celebrated christmas, not once in her life. And spending time with her makes him realise that it's not that he hates christmas, what he really hates is his family. So he calls his family back home to let them know that he ain't coming back, he's just discovered that "family" isn't about people you're related to, it's about having people in your life that don't make you want to shoot yourself in the head.

So he stays there and lives happily ever after with her, never celebrating Christmas again.
