07.07.23 | Berlin How people’s perception can get you arrested
Tumblr media
“What’s in a name?”, laments Juliet to her beloved Romeo in Shakespeare’s infamous play of the same name. That, if he were not a Montague and she a Capulet (in name), they would be perfect together. Unfortunately, the British Home Office does not agree. My aunt growing up as a teenager in the yuppie streets of Crouch End in the 1980s was investigated for a couple of months because of the greek (mis)spellings of her name. YEOPOULLA is not the same as GEORGINA. It seemed that the Home Office thought there might be two different people and that my grandparents had trafficked some rogue child, like out of the Greek film Eternity and a Day (there is a scene were the protagonist saves an Albanian child in Thessaloniki from being bought by people who want to illegally adopt children). She still lives in Crouch End where you can safely say that she is not being investigated at her grocery shop at M&S, but she did have to change her name via deed poll.
Likewise, in January this year, Seán Binder, a German Irish rescue diver, and Sarah Mardini, a Syrian refugee behind Netflix’s The Swimmers, stood trial in Greece with the rescue NGO they volunteered at. While the Greek court rejected charges of espionage, they are still being investigated for human trafficking, money laundering and fraud, with a prosecutor recently appealing to reinstate the espionage charges. Seán explained that, at the time of his arrest, an article from local Greek media read “a German spy had been arrested in a military jeep trying to infiltrate a naval base to steal state secrets”. Unfortunately, Greco-German relations are still quite bitter. The whole fiasco could be compared to Nikos Perakis’s Sirens in the Aegean, a Greek satire that follows army soldiers assigned to guard a small rock island from Turkish troops. In the film, a Turkish boat is sent there for a modelling photo shoot, which results in several comic situations. At one point, the soldiers think someone is pretending to be a Kurd to get political asylum or that he might be a spy. Oxford Anthropologist, Ruben Andersson, has traced how the roots of “border security works much like what Sigmund Freud would call projection, the process by which repressed feelings are expelled from the self and located in another person or thing (i.e. an irregular migrant or asylum seeker)”. Maybe Seán and Sarah will be inspiration for a sequel before Perakis’s dies.
Tumblr media
Many philosophers have tried to understand how one’s perception influences public policy. In the Phenomenology of Perception (1945), Maurice Merleau-Ponty defines phenomenology as a method of describing the nature of our perceptual contact with the world and argues that the ultimate source of meaning and value is lived experiencewith human consciousness always assigning meaning - true or false - to the world. Thus, there is always the intersubjectivity of a person (formed by their ‘cultural environment’) guiding every conscious action. For example, Journalist Anna Funder in her book Stasiland interviews former East Germans after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In Miriam’s story, who was arrested as a 16 year old for sticking up leaflets, she tried to escape to the West one night and got as far as the last wire at the border until the sirens set off. She was tortured via sleep deprivation because, although she had acted alone and decided to escape on a whim, the Stasi wanted to extract the name of the secret, underground organisation she was a part of. They simply could not understand how a “16 year old with no tools, training, or help could crawl across their anti-facist protective measure, including a dog, on her hands and knees”. So after 10 days on interrogation, Miriam cooked up a story using Goethe’s Faust as inspiration. Despite so many loopholes and inconsistencies, the Statsi believed it because they wanted a story. After sending his men to search for this organisation, the interrogator realised she was lying because she wanted to sleep. She got 1.5 years in Staurberg.
I’m still trying to figure out how to avoid the (mis)perceptions of others, while also working on my own. Turns out we cannot separate ourselves from our perceptions of the world and we’re all screwed.

Sleeping Tips For Babies - How To Seep Your Baby
Take http://www.sleep-tight.com.au/ to bed when he could be sleepy and does not sleep This is an excellent task, particularly for breastfeeding mothers, but master the second so you and baby will rest quicker. Babies who float alone learn to wind down, says Kim West, sleep consultant and author of Good Night, Sleep Tight. Try to take baby to bed while he calms down, prior to she nods. West suggests setting up a fatigue curve from 1 to 10 when baby is between 6 and 2 months old. (1 is fully awake and 10 features a cold.) Wait until your baby hits 7 or 8, then put him to rest. Wait a minute before going to your child If you better of the infant monitor with every squeak, you simply teach your kids to wake up more often. Wait a short while to present him time to nap alone. If she doesn't take action also it seems jane is getting up, attempt to reach it before it is a complete scream. If you surrender before a collapse, you'll catch it prior to it being too much to fall asleep again. Either way, it is good to cut back the sensitivity in your baby monitor. Adjust the quantity to alert you when you are desperate, but you are going to not hear each of the gurgles. Try not to look baby within the eyes Many babies can be stimulated. Watching the baby's eyes can draw your attention and signal that it must be playtime. Parents who've his full attention with drowsy babies inadvertently cause them to leave their sleep zone, says Claire Lerner, principal parent adviser at Zero to Three, a non-profit organization that promotes children's health. babies and small kids. "The more interaction you have with your child at night time, the harder motivated you will be." So, how to proceed? Lerner suggests keeping against each other of methods. If you head to your child during the night, do not look him within the eye, tend not to talk enthusiastically or take his favorite song. Keep your eyes to be with her belly and calm her again which has a soft and gentle voice. Relax the policies for layer changes Resist the temptation to improve baby every time you awaken: you do not always want it, and you also will shake it. Instead, place your child on the quality nighttime twig before you go to bed, says Pantley. When he wakes up, he smells to see if it's dirty, simply changes it if it's crap. To avoid being fully awake during nighttime changes, try using warm wipes on the cloth warmer. Give your infant a "dream food" If your child has sleep disorders, it can benefit him sleep longer if he wakes him up for any nightly dinner (for example, between 10 pm and midnight). Keep the lights dim and carefully lift your baby from the crib. Set it up to breastfeed or require a bottle. You can awaken good enough to start out feeding, but if you don't, gently pinch your lips while using nipple until it breaks. When finished, place him around the bed without disturbing him. Wait unless you are ready for sleep training By following these guidelines, you are able to develop healthy sleep habits and start the initial month of your child's life. As desperate while, your infant just isn't ready to nap formally until he could be at least 4 months old. Not only will you be well prepared to nap long distances, but you may also be more receptive on the techniques you will use. Prepare for sleep regressions If baby wakes up during the night, don't panic: it's probably only a temporary hiccup. Babies and small children are often subject to minor sleep regressions on major stages of development or alterations in routine, for example travel, illness or perhaps a new sibling. Many parents notice that sleeping problems begin around 4 months, as babies be mobile and sleep patterns change, and again around 9 months as depression increases. Final Words To survive, get back towards the basics: adhere to a predictable and constant schedule the whole day plus a relaxing routine at night. If your baby is old enough, choose a sleep training strategy and try it for a week. If you usually do not see any improvement, try again and try a new approach.

A Sleep Consultant in Northern Virginia | Interview with Susan's Sleep Solutions
Tumblr media
What's the one thing people always seem to associate with having a newborn? Lack of sleep, right? Sometimes the unsolicited advice can get a bit overwhelming. If you want to talk to a professional before your baby arrives (or after as well of course), check out this sleep consultant in Northern Virginia, Susan's Sleep Solutions. Take a look at how Susan can help you prepare for your newborn's arrival to set you up for sleep success from the start.
Interview with Susan's Sleep Solutions - Sleep Consultant in Northern Virginia
Q: As a sleep consultant in Northern Virginia, what exactly do you do for expecting families at Susan's Sleep Solutions? A: For expecting parents, I offer education about newborn needs in the form of a free guide as well as periodic webinars. For parents who want a plan of action on day one, I do offer a healthy habits plan that supports your newborn in learning healthy sleep skills from the start! I love this plan because it is really flexible, taking in consideration the incredible demands that are on new parents, and it spans over the entire 4th trimester (12-14 weeks) of life!   Q: What’s your background or training in sleep consulting? A: I am a certified sleep consultant via Sleep Sense. The component of training takes about 6 months to complete and includes an intensive 2-4 day training (appx 30 hours) pre and post trainings (appx 30 hours), and a year long mentorship. Part of my certification requirements was to have read all the leading books on child sleep and sleep training techniques. It’s quite extensive!  Beyond my certification, I am a mom who was at rock bottom and hired a consultant myself to help me with my then 6 month old’s sleep! Our experience was life changing and I knew I wanted to help families just like ours who need the specialized support! And, as a Kindergarten and PreK teacher for 14 years, I often had conversations with parents about their chip’s sleep and the impact we were seeing in the classroom. 9/10 behavior challenges were rectified with better sleep!!
Tumblr media
Q: What is your philosophy/methodology at Susan's Sleep Solutions? A: Every baby and family is different and working on your child’s sleep needs is not as simple as a cookie cutter approach. When I work with your family, I make sure the plan is a best fit for your family and takes into consideration your lifestyle and goals. I have a variety of methods I use to support you child usually based on age and family circumstances to be sure your family gets great sleep. We meet to go over everything I have proposed and I ensure that families are 100% comfortable with the method before actually putting it into practice - we can make any changes necessary to make sure you are comfortable with the plan. For newborns, since it’s not formal sleep training, we start with the pick-up/put-down method.     Q: How much support does Susan's Sleep Solutions include? A: I believe they my support is what sets me apart from other consultants. When we work together, we get to now each other very well and I don’t take it lightly that you have asked me to support your family in such an intimate way! My newborn plan is standardized and spans over 12-14 weeks of life. It includes follow up/troubleshooting phone calls and unlimited email amongst other support measures. Once baby reaches 14-16 weeks+, my support is tiered based on the perceived needs of the family. This ranges from “I just need the plan but not much support” to “I need unlimited text support to get me through this!”. I also offer in home overnight services for the DMV area. I believe that sleep is a necessity and not a luxury so I try to offer something for everyone. If there is something you need but don’t see, be sure to ask!   Q: When is the best time to start working with you at Susan's Sleep Solutions?
Tumblr media
A: This is a great question! For expecting parents, I find it’s best to come together for a consultation before baby comes so you are ready to go on birth day! Newborn sleep is chaotic and flexible so I think it’s important for new parents to know to just do the best you can!! After baby reaches 3/4 months+ and you find that you baby is needing a lot of support from you to fall asleep and/or you have heightened anxiety around your child’s sleep then it’s time to get in touch with me! Babies who don’t sleep well usually turn into toddlers who don’t sleep well and helping babies learn great sleep skills is just thaaaaat much easier than teaching toddlers good sleep habits. If you have a toddler who needs help, though, it most certainly can be done!!     Q: If you could give an expectant mother one piece of advice, what would it be? A: Do what works best for your family. Ignore Google and snuggle that new baby - there is no such thing as a spoiled newborn!     Thanks so much Susan for the great interview! I hope this has helped give you an idea of what you'll find with Susan's Sleep Solutions. If you're interested to find out more or check out her services for older babies and kids, take a look at her website.

i’ve been thinking about black widow and the red room recently, as one does, and i’ve got a lot of thoughts about the effects of the red room on widows who’ve escaped. couple things, just before i begin: i would recommend having watched black widow before this because there are implied (?) spoilers, i use way too fancy language while i write and i don’t have an editor cause this is mainly to catch her off guard, so, uh, whoops sorry
trigger warnings: TW: child abuse TW: restricted eating/starving yourself TW: dehumanization TW: death of a child
so yeah, enjoy my list of 10 personal headcanons about how the red room fucks you up on all the levels.
1) black widows cannot sleep in. like, they wake up at 5:00 am every day. it’s not a physical thing, at least not as far as they know, because they can negate that by just going to bed two hours or less before 5:00 am just from their lack of sleep. if, however, they go to sleep at a fairly normal hour they will, like clockwork, wake up at 5:00. this stems from them doing it every single day of their life since they got indoctrinated in the red room. if they didn’t wake up at 5:00 am ready for more training or missions, for any reason, they would be tortured. sometimes physically, sometimes mentally. eventually, all the widows would get that message. they still can’t shake it. because of that, natasha will often refuse to go to sleep at a normal hour, trying to force her body into submission, trying to rid herself of the painful memories that accompanied sleep and waking up afterwards. only clint knows why, because each day in that vent, natasha would snap up at 4:00 am. she had to explain to him that she just wasn’t accustomed to budapest time, and that actually, it was 5:00 am in russia.
2) for months after escaping the red room, widows practically cannot eat. in the red room, they were fed mushy messes of meals, filled with only the necessary nutrients that they absolutely had to have to survive. most widows can only get down one meal, maybe even a snack if they push it, until they throw it all up. they have to slowly eat slightly more each day for weeks until they can get down a normal intake of food. even then, it’s hard to push that, and every widow relapses into throwing up in those early stages. however, this isn’t normally a problem for most widows until a couple weeks into their life with freedom. that’s about the time that they make an acquaintance, who will eventually pluck up the courage to ask them why every time said friend will eat near the widow, the widow will lean over and whisper: “careful, that’s your whole ration today and i don’t want to do extra training.”
3) each “class” of widows had an extra mentor teacher in their early red room years. this was an older widow, someone who’d been falling behind in her recent missions, and with a look that the red room deemed “motherly”. their sole purpose was to be the person each widow got attached too, the parental figure. they were nice, they were helpful, they taught many different basic techniques. then, one day, the red room would have another older widow, (one already introduced to the children as the metaphorical “bad cop” of this scenario) come in and inform the mentor that she had failed her latest mission and proceed to, in front of thirty eleven year-olds, shoot the mentor. the mentor widow would not die that day- the red room refused to waste such a weapon- but the class of up incoming widows would be informed that she had. the official purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate to both the trainees and the trainer the consequences of failing a mission. the unofficial purpose? that would be the last psychological effects the mentor’s “death” would have upon the class, making them learn what happened to attachments in the red room. the day natasha’s class experienced this was the day she cut off all contact with her sister. the day yelena experiences this is the day she first another widow- because yelena killed that mentor with her own bare hands before the informant ever finished the announcement.
4) towards the start of the red room’s history, there were several attacks on the red room. the first ever attack was from a local police station who had been getting complaints of loud wailing, and, upon further investigation, realized what they were dealing with. they brought several other police and militia groups from nearby towns. the immediate action that was taken was to throw the littlest girls they had at the attackers. it stopped the police in their tracks, obviously, because you really don’t expect to come across thirty little girls while searching through a building of highly trained assassins. the red room then sent their fully trained widows and killed everyone. including the girls. the red room then found that footage from their cameras (because of fucking course they have cameras) and then showed it to the next batch of widows, just to show them how disposable they were.
5) yelena and natasha almost caused a whole fucking mutiny within the red room just because of their names. in the red room, you see, widows do not get names. they instead are bestowed with numbers, and even those are a twisted class ranking. they all wore little name tags with the numbers on them until came natasha and yelena came in. yelena, having just seen her mother get shot, complied almost immediately and was addressed as number 42. on the other side of that coin you have natasha, who had already been in the red room and remembered every gruesome detail, and went “fuck you my name is natalia.” upon hearing of this (word gets around fast in the red room. every girl must know they are being listened to at all times, and no secrets can be kept from the red room,) yelena too announced her name to the class.
6) this was met with blanching from every child in that class, because how on earth can you be called by a word? no, they thought, we are numbers, we are weapons, we are not people and we cannot have our own words, for we are not worthy. but secretly, internally, they wished for a name. slowly, they began piecing syllables together until they formed a coherent name, and for the first time in the red room’s long history, they didn’t have weapons. not anymore. they have two full classes of human little girls. the red room officials heard of this, obviously, and took to the only method they had now. violence. the classes were rid of the named girls, yet natasha and yelena were kept alive. they were kept alive to be ostracized, to be the girl the others pointed at and said “she’s the reason all my friends died.” they were kept alive so they could watch the carnage they had unwittingly caused just by saying their own names. and the worst part? well, the worst part was when the teachers accounted for those kills, and made them top of the class. yelena will never forget the day the teachers stood her and her sister up in front of all the widows-in-traning and told them what a good job they had done, how those tactics were sure to help them graduate. i mean, you’re practically a shoo-in if they rest of your class was killed by your school.
7) the red room could never fully stop the names, and so they decided to make a system, and the names would be the highest reward. they told the young, impressionable girls that while maybe outsiders such as natasha and yelena got names at birth, you had to earn them here. if you are to become a spy, you will take on the name of you very first official alias. if, instead, you become an assassin, you will take on the name of your very first official kill. of course, in reality, the widows couldn’t actually address each other with their new earned names, and instead used “team leader” or other such titles. but it became a small comfort for them, thinking of themselves in third person, with their very own names. in some small part they weren’t fully weapons anymore, no, they were people again. natasha took on the name natalia, because in her mind that life in ohio had been her first mission, even if she hadn’t known it. yelena took on yelena as well, but in her mind that little girl in ohio who was sitting in the backseat, caring only about which song they played, that girl had to have been yelena’s first true kill.
8) the names system worked well in the red room, but when you escaped it caused some serious problems. most would have to announce themselves to the russian government, saying they had been flying under the radar their whole life and never became registered. then, they’d give a non-russian name, and their whole ruse would fall apart. unfortunately, this was the least of their problems, because many a widow would someday meet a relative of their very first kill, and when they introduced themselves as the person they had killed all those years ago, the families and friends would often figure them out.
9) one of the biggest parts of the red room’s brainwashing was their little catchphrases they used. ironically, a lot of them were eerily close to boy scout mottos- “be prepared,” an iconic scout motto, versus “there is no safety, only preparedness,” the most frequently used phrase within the red room. when widows then escaped, the most small phrase could set them off. some unknowing widows even adopted little boys in their new lives, who often became boy scouts. the ensuing misery is something you can imagine yourself.
10) after clint helped natasha to escape, she immediately died her hair blond.  clint asked why, of course, and she didn’t tell him. (what, you thought i’d have another cute clintasha moment? never.) this was partly because she hadn’t admitted it to herself, though, because natasha couldn’t remember her sister without remembering all the suffering that came with her.
11) when the widows were smaller, more susceptible to the conditioning, the red room would stage infiltrations. older widows, ones who were closer to retirement, would come in in different uniforms, sometimes the uniforms of UN officers or local police, sometimes different organizations, all different types. the most recent uniforms made yelena sick looking at them, because each time the older widows would pretend to be the avengers there would also be one pretending to be her sister. each time she saw the fake natasha she wanted to break that widow’s neck because that’s not how my sister tilts her head, you’re doing it all wrong. you should be doing it like this, you shouldn’t be doing it at all, i should be doing this, i know my sister. each time those exact thoughts went into her head, and each time all she really wanted was for her sister to be there, for natasha to do her little head tilt upon seeing yelena and take her hand and say “you’re safe now, i promise,” and for natasha to be telling the truth. the only problem was that deep down inside herself yelena knew that this could never actually happen while yelena was still in the red room, because while yelena was still in the red room she knew that she would look at natasha telling her she was safe and tell her in return that there was no safety, only preparedness, and then murder her sister in cold blood.

Group 4 Adult hc’s please 😭 they’re all precious! Thank you for loving Group 4
YES OMG! I love this! And you’re so right 😭 They are so precious and I adore them 💜
WAIT. I wasn’t sure if you meant individual hc’s or ones of them all together 😭 If I messed this up, lmk and I’ll do new hc’s!!
Karma Akabane
He’s a distinguished bureaucrat by day, a compete fucking disaster by night
No who am I kidding
He brings chaos no matter what time
Lives to drive his co-workers insane, even if he gets along with them. It’s just a habit of him being around anyone lmao
His apartment is really expensive and nice...except it’s also a fucking mess.
See when he was a kid and lived alone, there was still a maid around. He didn’t live like a slob.
But as an adult with no supervision whatsoever....well, he kinda lets loose. A lot.
Drops his $500 suits right onto his floor, has piles of clothing around, his official government papers are laying everywhere, like Karma, isn’t that illegal??? Lmao
Invites his co-workers out for drinks, or he happily goes along if someone else invites him. Actually makes more of an effort to be social as an adult, surprisingly.
Irritates Terasaka whenever he gets to see him...which is fairly often hehe
Also likes to barge into Group 4’s lives...literally. Like he’ll randomly show up to Nagisa’s classroom, sneak onto Kayano’s film set, invite himself into the nursing home Kanzaki is at and befriend elderly people, etc.
No matter what though, you can’t change Karma lmao. He will go to ridiculous and edgy methods in his job, even snoop on government officials outside of work
You DO NOT want him as an enemy. If any politician crosses him, Terasaka tears up on their behalf. “Just try to survive, man.” “Uh, what?” “You’ll see.”
Competent adult rating: 5/10
Manami Okuda
It’s not surprising of course, but she’s totally dedicated to her work and research. Her loved ones have to remind her to take breaks often.
Her apartment is generally tidy because she’s barely there.
Her work desk space on the other hand...is hella messy lol. She tends to throw papers around in the middle of stuff, and there are a few old food containers or takeout boxes from late night work.
She likes to tie her hair up in a braided bun often, to keep it out of the way. That’s mandatory for lab work anyways.
Dresses in a lot of casual but comfy attire, like blouses, jeans, skirts and boots, etc.
Gets along well with her colleagues, but she still has that habit of being a little reserved. Like she won’t jump right into hanging out with them, only if she’s invited to.
Her communication skills have improved so much omg, let’s all be proud of her <3
She has a pet chameleon!! It’s name is Rutherford, after the chemist lol
Tomohito Sugino
He actually lives by the strictest guidelines out of all of them
Since he’s a professional athlete, he really has to take care of his body and maintain his physique.
So like...a diet focusing on proteins, vitamins, nutrients, lean meats, vegetables, etc. All that good stuff.
And he works out twice a day. Once in the morning, he goes out for a jog as cardio. Then in the evening, he’ll do a more strength-based workout for his core and biceps.
As usual, he is very social and makes friends super easily UwU. When he’s not focusing on work (this is rare) he likes to make plans with people often.
Can’t handle being alone for too long
Gets confused/annoyed by finance matters a lot lmao. Hates filing taxes and doing paperwork, treats it like a chore rather a necessity for adulting
He has a really popular Instagram page actually, given that he’s a well-known baseball player. He posts mostly selfies, pics with friends, workout mirror selfie’s lmao, and of course pics of his dog
She’s a golden Labrador named Kimi, and he adores her so much. She’s a puppy still but she’s very active and loving.
He becomes a really popular meme for his very tired facial expression during a particularly rough game. Sugino takes great pride in this lmao
Credit to @assclass-dump for this amazing idea: Sugino being like Tony Hawke, and literally no one recognizes him outside of his baseball uniform lmaooooo. I love that.
Kaede Kayano
She has her shit together...for the most part
Kayano’s fame as an actress only grows more and more as she gets older. She has a ton of awesome big roles, even internationally.
This is canon: she does her own stunts and she always amazes the entire crew, especially if her co-star is new to meeting her and had no idea.
Kayano tends to not always take care of herself that well though. She exercises and maintains a strong physique daily, but her meals tend to consist of like...a flimsy salad and a pudding cup and that’s it.
Her apartment is pretty taken care of for the most part, especially when she’s filming and only comes back for sleep.
On her off-months though, best believe this girl tries to chill at home for as much as she can lol. She needs that well-deserved rest.
Kayano visits Aguri’s grave once every month. She brings her favorite flowers and gives kind of a life update on everything. She cries every time.
During her lowest moments, she’ll open up the yearbook that Korosensei left for her. She’ll read all his encouraging notes, laugh at the goofy memories they made...
She stays in contact with Kanzaki and Sugino the most. It’s harder with Karma and Okuda who have very demanding jobs too...and Nagisa who is hyper-focused on teaching
Gets involved in a couple dating scandals and such because the media is bored and nosy. But she shuts that shit down so fast and ruthlessly.
Yukiko Kanzaki
Adulting definitely comes the easiest for her, out of all of them
At the residence care facility she works at, she’s known for being the chillest and prettiest nurse
Bonds with most of her patients very easily. She especially has a sweet spot for elderly women, since they remind her of her beloved grandmother
She also had learned to be more open and comfortable with expressing herself. Unlike her junior high self, she isn’t envied or disliked or treated as an idol.
She actively communicates with her co-workers and has become better at making connections.
In true Kanzaki fashion, she absolutely will speak out if an injustice happens near her, and this sadly can be common in elderly care homes.
She doesn’t tolerate mistreatment at all. She voices her concerns and objections in her usual classy way, but if nothing changes, she’ll be persistent and more aggressive.
Kanzaki lives in a fairly modest apartment not too far from work. She walks every morning to get fresh air and enjoy being outside. She also stops by a cafe for breakfast and brings something for a co-worker she’s especially close to.
Even though her family could afford to get something way nicer and more expensive, Kanzaki insisted they don’t. She wants to work hard and achieve things through effort.
Besides she’s always been curious about a more humble lifestyle. She finds that she actually enjoys it immensely.
Nagisa Shiota
Hey hey hey, it’s our favorite new teacher <3
Seriously Nagisa is super dedicated to his job. He spends a good portion of his free time making more plans and ideas for future lessons.
He’s also just...such a spectacular teacher.
No matter how difficult his students may be, he never treats them like they’re problems. He always gives them a lot of kindness and respect, which sadly they don’t get a lot from others.
Disciplines in a really good way, like he’ll correct them but won’t sound condescending. He doesn’t sugarcoat, he’ll be honest but absolutely will give new chances.
Also can be totally fun and goofy if the time calls for it. Doesn’t want his students to ever fear him or feel like he’s unapproachable.
Makes learning to be fun and creative, also connects with each student one-on-one for sure.
He lives in a super tiny apartment. That teacher salary bro 😔
Takes a train everyday for a short commute to get to work.
His apartment also is prone to being littered around with a bunch of teaching stuff until he gets to organizing it.
Is generally very liked by his colleagues! Some of them don’t really agree with his teaching style and think he’s too lenient, Nagisa doesn’t pay them mind.
Can cook really well but is prone to buying convenience store meals often, because of his schedule.
Keeps a photo of 3-E on his nightstand.

15. Happy Friggin’ Valentine’s Day - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 22,771 (2010)
SLASH. It all started with Dean's perfectly healthy hatred of frivilous holidays and a much-coveted sack of dust. Poor Castiel doesn't fully understand 'romance' to begin with, and this crash course is most unwelcome.

20. The Shattered One - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 94,021 *grace mpreg* (2012)
When it struck Castiel, it dropped him out of the sky. He set down the first place he could find. He stood in a field in Switzerland, swaying on his feet and staring down at his body, dazed by what it had just done.
21. This Cupid Isn’t Stupid - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 41,572 (2012)
Dean receives a shock when he wakes up to discover Castiel has returned. Why is the angel suddenly back? Why have his powers dimmed? And.. Why are he and Dean joined together by an invisible rope!
22. Wild Horses, Cas - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 23,505 (2013)
(S8 Spoilers (story is set in S9), Sickfic! Destiel, Minor Sabriel). When Cas comes down with a bad case of Pneumonia it leaves Dean feeling more protective over his friend than ever, but will it also lead to Dean's admittance of his feelings towards his friend?
23. Wrong - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 51,384 (2010)
Angels are not supposed to drop out of the sky into motel rooms, broken and beaten. They're not supposed to bleed like that. It was all wrong.
24. The Reluctant Contestant - RATING: PG-13 | LENGTH: 50,502 (2012)

When You’re Close to Me w/ Katsuki Bakugou
Tumblr media
Warnings: some tears from characters, but still just a bunch of fluff
A/N: I love this song so much. (Go listen to it now). I feel like I didn’t do it justice but whatever. This has been in my drafts forever. Idk how it turned out but here we go. Also ik it’s kinda long, don’t come after me lmao
Are you here with me? Just looking out on the day of another dream
Bakugou just started to stir awake, the sun slowly starting to beam in the window. His blurry vision came to focus on the digital clock next to him that said 5:45 AM. He sighed and flopped his spiky head back onto his pillow. He opened his eyes again slightly as he turned to face his partner next to him. God, he still can’t believe how lucky he is. Every morning he gets a little wave of relief when he sees you by his side. He’s got a little smile on his face as he holds back from just cupping your cheek and pecking you on the forehead to tell you how much he loves you. But he thinks you’re so cute and peaceful when you sleep and knows you need rest otherwise you’ll be a little brat. Instead he wraps his arm around you, closes his eyes, and hopes he falls back asleep as his mind still focuses on you.
Well, you can’t get what you want, but you can get me. So let’s set out to sea.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry, baby. I couldn’t get out of it. They needed all the help they could get.” Bakugou pleaded to you while holding your hands in his. It was your 3 year anniversary and he had to cancel your plans for the evening due to a villain attack downtown.
You sniffled and looked towards the ground, limply holding his hands back. “I understand. I knew what this was going to be like, being with a hero. It’s just hard sometimes you know? I miss the days where we would spend all day together. We would go to class together, eat lunch together, visit each other’s dorms whenever we wanted. I miss you, Katsuki.”
He pulled you into a hug where he ran his hand through your hair as you buried your face into his chest. “I know. I miss you so much. Being a hero is amazing, but it’s damn exhausting, especially not having you there with me. I love you, Y/N.” He said softly as he kissed the top of your head and then rested his chin on it.
“I love you too, ‘Suki. We’ll figure things out.”
“Of course, we will. We always do. You and I are a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.”
“Huh, you really think so?” You looked up to meet his gaze. He just nodded and hummed in reply. “Well, I do too.” You then pulled him into a sweet kiss. Something you guys had done a thousand times, but it still brought butterflies to your stomach every time. You guys remained in each other’s arms for a bit longer, just swaying slightly despite the quiet.
“You know, I may have a way to bring back the old days.” Bakugou said breaking the silence.
You looked up at him. “Oh yea? Do tell, pretty boy.”
“Well..” he cleared his throat and continued in a low tone, “I was thinking maybe we could move in together. Like when we lived in the dorms, but with no Aizawa on our backs. It’s not perfect but at least I’ll get to see my beautiful idiot more often” You thought for a few seconds just staring into space. “Nevermind, it was stu-“.
“It’s perfect.” You kissed him again. “I would love that, babe.”
“Tch- well yea, of course you would it was a great idea.” He said with a shit-eating grin on his face after getting an ego boost from you agreeing with him. You just rolled your eyes back. “I would too, though.”
Cause you are my medicine when you’re close to me. When you’re close to me
Katsuki had no idea where he was. He was lying down on a bed, staring at the stark white ceiling as his vision began to clear. When he finally regained consciousness, he jolted up realizing he didn’t know was was going on. Then, you got up from your chair that was beside him in order to calm him down. He suddenly felt a sharp pain on his side. He winced and quickly put his hand on the wound.
“Oof, honey. I was trying to prevent you from doing that. Are you okay?” You said as you softly rubbed his arm.
He listened and lied back facing toward you this time. In a low, gruff voice he responded, “Yeah, I’m fine. Where the hell are we?”
“We’re in Recovery Girl’s office. After training today you ended up getting pretty beat up and passing out.”
It was all coming back to him. It was him versus Deku. One of their last days at UA and everyone was going all out. The two were moving quickly, jumping around each other trying to dodge and land hits. Eventually they started to wear down, but you know them, they will never stop. So after a while, Midoriya was able to use a little more than 10% of One for All, causing Bakugou to crash into a wall and fall to the ground. It wasn’t over yet though. He stumbled back up while doing his signature yelling. He was setting off explosions to fly up to his opponent and land a huge hit, but midway he just passed out and ended up falling on the concrete.
“Oh, yea I remember now. THAT FUCKING DEKU!! I’M GONNA MAKE HIM PAY!!” He yelled while trying to get out of bed. You then had to get up and set him back down.
“No, no, no. Katsuki, you can’t do anything right now. You need to just relax.” You said softly while pushing him back down by his shoulders.
“But I can’t lose to him! No fucking way!” He was still attempting to get up.
“You have to let it go, Suki.” You sat back down next to him and held his hands in yours. “I understand you wanting to get even, but you can’t right now. You’ve already gone way too far today.” You take a deep breath and continue, “You’ve been worrying me. Recently you’ve exhausted yourself so many times just in training alone. I get we’re close to graduating, but you need to relax, take it easy. Exerting so much energy in an emergency, I understand, but you’re just fighting ‘stupid’ Deku. You’re not going to be doing much hero work if you’re always in the hospital.” You sighed and put your head down, “I’m sorry, Suki. I just hate seeing you hurt.”
He knew what you meant. A couple months ago you were also injured badly and had to stay in the hospital for a few days after fighting a tough villain during your internship. He could barely take it. He couldn’t do anything except be by your side. All he wanted was to see you back to being the badass you usually are.
He sat up and rubbed his thumbs on your knuckles as you continued to hold hands. “Don’t worry about me, dumbass,” he said at almost a whisper, showing how ‘dumbass’ is just his way of saying he loves you. “I can take care of myself just fine…. But as much as I hate to admit it, I know you’re right.” He said with a smug grin which didn’t go away after you hit his shoulder. “Jeez, babe I’m just kidding. Point is you’re right. I can’t just go in ready to kill some people. I need to be smart about it. I need to be able to prove myself.”
“But you already have proven yourself. In more ways than one. You can show how great you are using methods that aren’t beating the shit out of Izuku, you know?”
“But those ways aren’t as fun.” You ended up slapping him on the shoulder again as he almost died laughing.
“Can you just promise me that you won’t end up in the nurses office again?”
“Alright, I’ll try my best.” He pulled you over and gave you a kiss on the forehead, “Thanks for putting up with me. I love you.”
“I love you too, even though you give me migraines.”
And surprisingly Bakugou kept up his promise, saving himself a whole lot of pain and saving yourself a whole lot of stress.
Just looking out for the day when you’re close to me.
The heat was rising as the your second year of UA was coming to a close. For the last half of the year Bakugou was slowly accepting his feelings for you and couldn’t hold back any longer. Somehow he tolerated you more than all the other extras. Hell, he even liked spending time with you and would go out of his way to do so. He didn’t want to spend the summer without you, but he didn’t know how to approach the situation. He couldn’t risk looking soft, but then again he “doesn’t care” what other extras think. It was a position he’d never been in before and he didn’t know how to handle it.
You were in the same boat. You may have had crushes before, but not like this, and definitely not like Bakugou. It didn’t take much to notice that he was somewhat nicer to you. He did schoolwork with you and didn’t smack you upside the head. He started choosing you as his partner more often in training. And never exploded when he got he annoyed with you. Maybe he was just nice to you because you were nice to him? You didn’t want to take things the wrong way and upset him. He was so predictably unpredictable. A literal ticking bomb, but somehow he was a lovable one.
The two of you were becoming unbearable. Your friends had all been planning to get together before summer break anyway, so they decided to do some meddling.
You had just joined the Bakusquad in the common room waiting to have some fun. You and Bakugou were sitting next to each other on the couch while Sero, Kaminari, and Kirishima all were chilling on the floor around the coffee table. Meanwhile, Mina was nowhere to be found.
“Ugh! Where the hell is stupid Pinkie?! I wanna get this shit over with?”
“We love you too, Kacchan.” Kaminari replies and you can head Bakugou growl next to you and you try not to laugh. “I’m sure she’ll be here any sec. She had to grab something for the super special thing she planned.” He said while wiggling his eyebrows and Bakugou just rolled his eyes. Kirishima then kicked Kaminari and whisper-yelled “Dude!” Then he turned back to you guys and said with a nervous smile, “What he means is that Mina wanted this to be the perfect hang out before we have to go back home, so she has some stuff for us.”
“I sure do!” Mina yelled as she burst in the room with her arms up.
“tch- finally” Bakugou mumbled under his breath.
“We just gotta set up and then we can do the super special thing. Sero and Kirishima wanna help me grab some stuff from the kitchen? And then the rest of you can you check to make sure we have enough room in my dorm? Great!” She gave no one time to respond and everyone just got up and followed suit.
“Wait can I use the bathroom first?! I totally gotta take a whiz!” Kaminari whined.
“Yea, just hurry up! I wouldn’t want you to miss anything! Y/N and Bakugou we’ll all meet you up there in a sec!”
Sero, Kirishima, and Mina shuffled into the kitchen while Human Pikachu bolted (lol) to the bathroom. You and Bakugou weren’t as frantic as the others but you still went with it.
When you both arrived you found Mina’s room to be totally clean. “OI, PINKIE YOU’RE RO-!” Bakugou was on the way his way out but then you saw a flash of yellow and the door slamming on Bakugou’s face.
“What the-?” Bakugou tried to turned the handle but it didn’t budge. “I SWEAR IF YOUR PLAN WAS TO PRANK US IM GONNA BURN YOUR DUMBASSES ALL TO HELL!! NOW LET US OUT!!” He banged on the door, still attempting to get out, but all he heard back was some snickers and the sound of something being put in front of the door. The Pomeranian, now angered, was still aimlessly attacking the door until he heard you sigh and flop on the bed.
Sprawled out with your hands covering your face you muttered, “Ugh, I’m sorry.”
Bakugou stopped and turned around to face you being the most confused you’ve ever seen him, “Wait... you knew about this!” He started stomping over.
You quickly sat up anticipating something to happen. “No, no I didn’t. I just.. I think I know what this is about. I think this is all because of something I said to Mina.”
You move your eyes around the room afraid to make contact with the ruby eyes of the man standing above you.
“And what’s that?”
You sigh and fidget with your fingers, “Well, I may as well say it because I don’t think we’ll get out of here otherwise. I like you, Bakugou. I have for a bit now and didn’t know what to do. So I asked Mina, and this is definitely not how I wanted to handle it so I’m sorry and-“ you were interrupted by Bakugou tilting your head up which was staring at the floor while you rambled. He quickly leaned down and pressed his lips against yours. You sat there wide-eyed. Not that it wasn’t good (it was), you were just thinking holy shit, my crush is on my face right now.
“Shit, I’m sorry I should’ve asked first. I just wanted to stop you because you don’t need to apologize. And I’m pretty sure you know this now but I like you too I guess. I don’t find you as annoying as I probably should. I haven’t for a while now.” He now was stood back up with a blush spread across his face and his one hand in this pocket with the other one rubbing the back of his neck. You stand up next to him and place your arms on his shoulders.
You giggle and say, “It’s okay. I enjoyed it. I was just surprised because I didn’t expect it from you. I actually think we should do it again.”
“Really?” He looked up as you nodded in response while biting your lip. You both then leaned in and kissed each other once more. It was definitely not as awkward as the first one. The kiss was sweet and passionate. When Bakugou feels something, he feels it wholeheartedly and it was evident in the way he was kissing you. He treated you as if you were an illusion that could shatter at any moment and he wasn’t going to take any of his time with you for granted.
You were suddenly interrupted by a loud banging on the door, “YOU LOVEBIRDS DONE IN THERE YET?!!! I ACTUALLY WANTED TO DO STUFF TONIGHT!!” Mina yelled through the door.
When you’re close to me
Bakugou woke up again but this time due to you booping his nose. “Good morning, Sunshine.” You whispered as you placed a kiss where had previously booped him. He just groaned and looked over to see the clock reading 8:30 AM. When he looked back your head was on his chest while you held onto him. He smiled a bit and pulled you in closer.
“Can we just stay like this all day, babe?” He said with his cheek pressed on the top of your head.
“Did I hear that correctly? Katsuki Bakugou said he wanted to stay in bed?! I must be dreaming still.”
“Tch, you’re such an idiot.” He chuckled and pressed a kiss onto the top of your head. “I love you though, you know that right?”
“Enough to help me make us some breakfast in bed?” You looked up at him with puppy eyes. He just sighed loudly and started to dramatically get out of bed. You soon followed and caught up to give him a hug as he grabbed stuff from the fridge. “I love you too, ‘Suki.”

Project CHIMERA Pt.1: A New Age
Hey everyone. I’ve had this little project stewing for a long while. I’m experimenting with the writing style and such so please give me any feedback you have! (Also formatting this thing has been a nightmare so if anything comes off as difficult to read please lmk and ill fix it)
TW: Dehumanization. Themes of imperialism. Descriptions of blood and injury.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dr. Yarru’s Personal Log
Entry 1
Date: Celendor 3, 991
It is a glorious day. Truly it is. Today marks the beginning of project CHIMERA. I have been assigned to lead this project by Emperor Vystlat himself, an honor I intend to prove myself worthy of. The equipment is still being set up and the facility brought to full function, but within the week we will be able to begin the production of the first batch of clones. All going well we will have our first subjects by the end of Celendor. This will be a new age for the empire.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Yarru’s Personal Log
Entry 4
Date: Celendor 12, 991
The first batch of clones are growing better than anticipated. Within two days they have already passed the embryonic stages and have reached infancy. If this rate continues they will be juveniles within three days at most, and we will be able to begin the initial stages of CHIMERA ahead of schedule. This is better than I ever could have hoped for. Soon the need for the empire’s children to die in order to spread our prosperity will be gone. Soon, the glory of the empire will go uncontested.

My glorious Emperor Vystalt,I am more than pleased to report that project CHIMERA’s progress has been greater than I ever anticipated. The first batch of clones have reached the juvenile stage and are being awoken as I write this report. After a day of acclimation we will be able to begin their training. Initial physiological tests have revealed that cell growth rates and immune system responses are greatly enhanced compared to the average human’s. With further research we may be able to adapt these properties to other medical fields. While I do not wish to get ahead of myself, the prospective avenues of research are truly promising.
I shall personally inform you of any and all major developments.
May our glory shine upon the world,

It appears that our genetic manipulation has worked a bit...too well. These clones are not the blank slates that we had anticipated, but have managed to develop personalities during their time in incubation. The good news is that the information we imprinted them with during the incubation phase has stuck as well. We won’t need to teach them the basics. In theory their training can continue as normal, but some issues have reared their ugly heads. We are already receiving resistance to the idea of training from some of the subjects, and an alarming amount of them have developed dispositions that aren’t exactly compatible with being a soldier. Still, this is a minor setback at most and I have been assured by the training staff that things will progress as intended. I hope they know what they’re doing, but the emperor chose them personally so they must be good at their job.
Despite this hiccup I can’t help but be hopeful for the future. Every other aspect of CHIMERA has gone off without a hitch. I’m already seeing promising results from my initial tests of the clone’s blood and muscle cells. I will have to study them closer to get better results, but that will come in time.
Damn it's been 22 hours since I last slept. I should probably do that now.

Subject: Plans going forward and clarification of CHIMERA details
It has come to my attention that there has been some confusion throughout the staff, both due to the unforeseen personalities of the clones and with general project protocol. Allow me to rectify these issues here.
[1] The classification of all subjects are as follows. Please remember this to avoid any failures of communication in the future.
Stage gamma: Subjects in the initial stages of testing. They will physically resemble adolescents, generally ages 12-15.
Stage beta: Subjects that are through initial training stages and have been curated into specified roles to receive specialized training. They will also reach physical maturity, resembling 20-22 year olds before their biological development and aging slows.
Stage alpha: Subjects that have finished training and are capable of being sent into the field.
Note: The ages attached to each stage are to provide a reference point to help identify subjects at a glance. Subject’s early rapid aging and the subsequent cessation of said aging makes any attempts at estimating age past a certain point futile. Please refrain from doing so
Addendum: This also means that there will be no attempts at assigning or recognizing birthdays. Yes Arthur, we mean you. Sate your addiction to cake on your own time
[2] Despite the unintended development of personality within subjects all current training protocols and methods will be utilized. The head of the training staff has asked that I pass along this message
*[While I understand that these new developments may be difficult to handle for some of you, it is imperative to remember that these clones are not people. They are more akin to automatons or even puppets. There will likely be many attempts to resist our training, do not waver. These clones are meant to be the bulwark of the empire. They need to be forged and tempered into weapons of war. If that requires us to break them first we must accept that. Use a heavy hand, accept not disobedience, and do whatever it takes to ensure the compliance of the clones.
                                                                                            Taskmaster Grestin]
[3] Remember that project CHIMERA is still in experimental phases. The genetic makeup, physiology, and even mental development and reception to training will vary from batch to batch and even subject to subject. Adapting to such differences will be crucial to ensuring progress of the project. If you happen to notice any abnormal physiological phenomena or behavioral anomalies please report to me. While these subjects are meant to be made into soldiers for the empire they also provide a plethora of opportunities for other fields of research. Within that vein, please refrain from killing the subjects. I understand that taskmaster Grestin’s previous statement emphasizes the importance of discipline but please, do show some restraint when possible. Creating these subjects is currently an expensive and, quite frankly, unreliable process despite our initial success. There is a reason this first batch only consists of 10 subjects. Please do not lower that number.

Well Grestin has definitely earned the title taskmaster. I get that any training intended to produce super soldiers is going to be intense but, damn. I’m almost worried that she’ll kill the subjects long before they get into stage beta. Hopefully I’m just being overly anxious. I trust that Grestin won’t push them too harshly too quickly.

Medical Report: Subject Gamma-A-8
Date of Admission: Celendor-20-991
Subject Gamma-A-8 was submitted to the facility infirmary at 8:26 AM on the 20th of month Celendor, year 991 by staff member Jules Armidin. Subject Gamma-A-8 was admitted due to severe injury and physical exhaustion. A complete list of afflictions has been attached to the report.
After initial treatments Subject Gamma-A-8 has been stabilized and is currently recovering. It is estimated the subject will be fully recovered within 10-14 days with no long term injuries or afflictions.

Well if anything at least I have been able to study how the subject’s body responds to physiological trauma. The results are nothing short of remarkable. Almost all of the major injuries have been healed to the point of not impairing the body's functions, including bone fractures. I was as shocked as the doctors when a compound fracture seemingly mended itself overnight. It hasn’t fully healed, but the subject is capable of moving the leg to a degree, which is still nothing short of amazing. Accelerated Healing was something that was coded into their base genetics but this is more than what we could have ever expected.
I wonder if this trait is shared by all subjects or if Gamma-A-8 is a special case. Perhaps Grestin’s methods will prove fruitful in more ways than one.

Entry 14
Date: Celendor 28, 991
It has been less than one month since the beginning of project CHIMERA and the results are already beyond my wildest dreams. Despite my initial reservations almost every subject has taken to the training regimen, no doubt due to Grestin’s expertise.
Note to self: Don’t piss her off
Subject Gamma-A-8 has had a difficult time keeping up with the other subjects. Despite the subject’s remarkable natural healing it seems unable to match the raw strength and speed the other subjects possess. I am hopeful that it will be able to catch up, or at least be able to function adequately in whatever role it is assigned. If not, well, 90% success rate is still more than acceptable given the circumstances.
I feel as if I have gathered as much data as I can working on the peripheries. Blood samples and medical reports are all well and good but they can only get me so far. I haven’t had a chance to interact with any of the subjects thus far. I think it's about time that I change that.

As the star witnesses in Touka Shiromajyo’s murder trial, both Natsu and Lucy weren’t allowed to sit through the trial. It was fine with them, considering just the idea of testifying was becoming more than Lucy could handle. She’d made a lot of progress with Natsu and the therapists help, but facing the woman who tried to kill her... in the flesh? Knowing Touka, she’ll be staring them down from the defense table with some stupid smug grin. It made Lucy’s skin crawl just thinking about it. Frankly, it wasn’t fair that they were having to go through this in the first place because the prosecutor offered Touka a deal. If she was remorseful and plead guilty to attempted murder and stalking, they would recommend only an in-house psychiatric treatment at a hospital versus jail time. But she’d refused the deal. As far as Touka was concerned this was all Natsu and Lucy’s fault for driving her to commit the act.
The defense really had very little they could do to argue against the facts of the case. Gajeel and his team did an excellent job tracing all the events of stalking from the beginning, so their best chances were to show Touka was completely mentally unstable, suffering from a disorder that made her incapable of knowing right from wrong or gain sympathy by attacking Natsu and Lucy’s roles. It wouldn’t get her off completely, but it might mitigate or shave time off her sentence.
The prosecution began by carefully laying out the timeline of events. In a stalking case that spanned years, this would be crucial as they moved through all the evidence to show when and the possible why’s that would establish Touka’s motives for kidnapping Lucy. It showed the buildup, the prosecutor pointed out, like an old coal train that slowly moved forward inch by inch, picking up momentum until it had reached its top speed, and unless someone pulled the breaks, there was no stopping it now. In order to provide a visual for the jury, they created a long board with all the points plotted out to use during the duration of their case. They kept it facing the jurors the entire time, a strategy to keep them focused on it.
In keeping with the strategy, witnesses and evidence were also presented in chronological order starting with Natsu, Gray, and a few other former students of Meguro Nihon. Both Natsu and Gray both testified that they didn’t remember or even interacted with Touka. The others were there as former club mates of the woman who testified they remembered her making comments about Natsu back then, but they also testified that they never saw or heard of him interacting with Touka.
“So, is it your testimony miss Fumiko that as far as you remember, there was never any interactions between the two?”
“Yes. Back then Touka and I were good friends, well at least I thought we were. I know she had a crush on him,” the woman blushed, “so did I, but Natsu was out of our league. Neither of us ever tried to approach him.”
“Thank you, miss Fumiko.”
The defense attorney then stood up to cross-examine the woman. “Miss Fumiko. How do you know that Ms. Shiromajyo never tried to talk to Mr. Dragneel? Isn’t it possible that she may have done so when you weren’t around?”
“Maybe... but I’m pretty sure Touka would have said something, if not before, after of what the outcome was. And I never saw her distraught about him.”
“Judge,” the defense objected. “Move to strike miss Fumiko’s testimony. It’s impossible for her to know the operation of another’s mind.”
“Objection!” The prosecutor fired back! “Miss Fumiko is just stating an observation.”
“Sustained,” the judge sided with the prosecution.
Undeterred the defense attorney pressed on. “Alright then, miss Fumiko. Did you ever observe Ms. Shiromajyo behave in any manner that concerned you?”
“I don’t understand...”
“Did Ms. Shiromajyo do anything that appeared as if she was obsessed with Mr. Dragneel?”
“No.”
“No further questions.”
The prosecutor stood back up. “Redirect your honor, I’d like to clarify what this witness understood ‘obsessed’ to mean.”
“Go ahead,” the judge granted.
“Miss Fumiko, how often would Ms. Shiromajyo talk about Mr. Dragneel?”
“Oh, daily! She kept a journal and would write things in it about what he did, what he wore, clippings from the school newspaper if he was in it, stuff like that. Sometimes we’d both talk about it, especially when he did something really cool.”
“I see. So, you actually saw the contents of the journal?”
“Yes. I remember it had a pink cover, and there were doodles and hearts with their names in it.”
“Daily chronicles, could that have been seen as obsessive miss Fumiko?”
“Objection!” The defense attorney decried.
But before the judge could respond, the prosecutor waived his hand with a smirk. “That’s okay. I’m done with this witness.”
“You’re free to leave Miss Fumiko,” the judge instructed the witness.
For the first three days of the trial, witness and evidence covered the time leading up to the Main event. Lisanna and Bixlow testified about their experience with Touka, along with two other college students who had a class with Natsu and had been approached by the woman. The manager and an employee of the movie theater testified about the assault incident in their establishment. The person Touka had tried to pay to kill Lisanna testified about that event. The doctor that performed the plastic surgeries was brought in to cover all the work she’d had done to transform herself, and other witnesses were brought in to testify about behaviors they’d witnessed showing her growing obsession. As the lead investigator, Gajeel testified about the police evidence, the methods they used to obtain what, how, etc. The defense attorney did his best to undermine Gajeel’s credibility due to his personal relationship to Lucy’s best friend. But the burly detective had been ready for it and proved to be undeniably unshakable in that regard. Nothing the man did through the investigation could be deemed biased.
Finally on day four, it was Lucy’s turn to testify. As they waited her turn in a soundproof side room, Natsu did his best to keep her calm. “Remember the affirmations,” he held her hands in his, staring up as he kneeled in front of her. “If you need a moment to breathe or you need a moment to calm down, signal the prosecutor.”
Lucy nodded. “Okay.”
“I’ll be sitting in the gallery with Levy during your testimony because the judge is allowing it. Just look at me, keep your eyes on me the whole time. Don’t look at Touka.”
“Natsu— I-I can’t do this...”
“Yes, you can, you can do this. Just remember what we talked about. She can’t hurt you anymore, so don’t give her any more power to.”
Tears pooled in Lucy’s eyes. “I’m scared, Natsu.”
He leaned up, cradled her face in his palms, and kissed Lucy’s forehead. “It’s okay to be scared, but you’re stronger then you know. We survived because you’re strong, Luce, remember that.”
“O-Okay.”
A woman from the prosecutor’s office walked Lucy to the stand while Natsu and Levy went and sat in the gallery. It was a win for them that the judges allowed there to be a psychiatrist present as well during her testimony, just in case a panic attack was triggered. The defense of course had fought the motion, citing the inflammatory appearance to the jury, but the judge overruled them. Lucy did her best not to look in the direction of the defense and kept her eyes glued on Natsu as a grounding point.
It wasn’t always easy. Her body was visibly shaking the entire time along with tears trickling down her face through the hardest portions. They’d warned Lucy that her time on the stand could take at least two days, more if the defense’s cross-examinations stretched out. She prayed they wouldn’t. Lucy knew they would try to trip her up but hoped they wouldn’t push it too far because as the victim, badgering would actually be counter effective for the defense. That first day the prosecutor took her through the beginning, how she’d met Natsu, when Touka entered the picture, the day at the cafe. Having to bare her life like this to the public was humiliating even if some of it wasn’t a big deal. Like meeting Natsu, their whole story about meeting on the train, was it really relevant? According to the prosecution, it was meant to establish that Natsu was a single male when they met, and not as the defense asserted, in a relationship with Touka.
Lucy took the jurors through the weeks and months, how at first Touka seemed harmless, including the conversations she’d had with the woman as she tried to convince Lucy not to date Natsu. She was forced to explain what caused her to reject Touka’s beliefs in deciding to date Natsu, how hearing about the woman through the eyes of others like Gray changed her mind. Next, they covered the escalating behaviors, being followed and approached by Touka everywhere they went. Lucy spoke of her growing fears, and the creepy feeling of being watched along with corroborating dated photo evidence from her phone of pictures she’d taken of Touka during some of the following incidents. By the end of the first day of testimony, they managed to reach the movie theater incident without many objections by the defense attorney. Lucy didn’t know if that meant he planned to leave her alone or was simply waiting to reserve his cross for later. The unknown left her even more anxious and that night, Lucy struggled to get a decent night’s sleep.
“I hate her even more,” Lucy snapped. “Why couldn’t she just take the damn deal so we could all move on?!”
Natsu pulled his girlfriend close. “I don’t think we’ll ever know the answer to that. All we can do, is our best to move forward.”
“I know...” Lucy sighed.
“Look on the bright side.”
“There’s a bright side?!”
Natsu chuckled. Lucy might be angry at the moment, but it was better she was letting it out instead of holding her emotions in. “You did really great on the stand today.” He kissed her lips. “I’m very proud of you Luce.”
That made Lucy blush, and her anger fade a little. “Thanks. But the hardest part will be tomorrow.”
“And you’ll do fine tomorrow too, just do what you did today. Stick to the truth, ignore the defense side, and just stare at your handsome boyfriend.”
“Pfft,” Lucy snorted a laugh, but he was right, and his humor was a pleasant medicine to take in. “You’re such a weirdo. But thank you. I don’t think I could do this without you.”
“Forever, right?” Natsu kissed her again. “Imma stick by you no matter what.” He smiled and cuddled her against him, “now go to sleep.”
And she did try her best to get enough sleep. Lucy even took extra melatonin to assist, but she still ended up waking up in a cold sweat from a nightmare. Even though the prosecutor had gone over her testimony more than once in preparation, the idea of reliving the kidnapping left a sinking feeling in her stomach when faced against the defendant. Whereas day one she’d done well to avoid it, Lucy made the mistake of looking at Touka as soon as she’d sat down on the witness stand. Strangely, instead of fear, seeing the smug look on the woman’s face made her angry instead. So, Lucy steeled back her resolve to get this whole damn nightmare over with.

***Best of the 1st Half of 2021: SONG EDITION***
Six months into 2021 and since 2020 wrapped up...some things in the world have changed, while other things remain the same (for better or worse). Folks, it’s time to talk about rap music in 2021...
Tumblr media
One trend definitely has continued well into 2021: the underground rap world - I’m talking the artists, the aesthetic, the sound, the full projects, every box you can think of - continues to kick the mainstream rap world’s ass. There are already signs of the two imaginary separate worlds intermingling more and more, and we will have to deal with the pros and cons of that down the line...but one thing is for sure: rap music runs deeper, and more sonically diverse than ever before, and as long as there is an internet to enlist the ears and talents of artists from all over the world, the art form will continue to divide, change shape, borrow from the old and add some new, again and again. And we will all be better for it.
So let’s dive right in. As usual there are about 1,000 more songs that I would love to cram into this list, but there are only so many spots...and I’m married with a toddler, so even though I am listening to rap music for a concerningly large portion of my day, it takes a lot of extra coffee and less sleep to keep these posts going (but it’s still worth it, I love connecting with folks over the same under-discussed but ridiculously dope songs and artists).
There are many lists but none quite like this one, here is THE RAP PUNDIT’S LIST OF THE BEST RAP SONGS FROM THE FIRST HALF OF 2021....hope you find some joints you never heard before and really enjoy.  And to all of the MCs, Producers, mixers, singers, curators, readers, writers, critics - anyone that contributes something to this music I love....thank you, as always. 🙏
[Bonus joint] 55. “GANG GANG” - Polo G feat. Lil Wayne
https://soundcloud.com/polo-g/polo-g-lil-wayne-gang-gang?in=polo-g/sets/hall-of-fame-675200176
[Bonus joint] 54. “Furious Styles” - Illa Styles feat. Nickelus F https://illastyles.bandcamp.com/track/furious-styles-ft-nickelus-f
[Bonus joint] 53. “Box of Churches” - Pooh Sheisty feat. 21 Savage
https://soundcloud.com/ceo-mrpooh/box-of-churches-feat-21-savage
[Bonus joint] 52. “Beating Down Yo Block” - Monaleo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnMPEfV0bSA
[Bonus joint] 51. “BUZZERBEATER” - Rahiem Supreme feat. Al.Divino & Estee Nack
https://franksvinylrecords.bandcamp.com/track/buzzerbeater-feat-al-divino-estee-nack
50. "A Man Apart” - Rx Papi
https://soundcloud.com/rxpapi/a-man-apart-prod-by-noisy?in=rxpapi/sets/100-miles-walkin
(Face it: you’re either feelin’ the Rx flow or you’re not. The endlessly quotable MC is not always taken seriously, but similar to how the saddest clowns are most adept at masking their pain behind a smile, Papi needs to be taken seriously as a talented rap artist.)
49. “Moving On Up” - Evidence feat. Conway The Machine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F35OOXvQ4c
(Evidence, Babu, Daringer and Conway all joining forces on a record feels like a timeline altering reach between two completely different generations of elite underground hip-hop artists, but in the case of “Moving On Up”, it’s not just a “hey wouldn’t it be dope if” fantasy, it’s a sweet reality. Ev has connected with the Griselda camp before and of course the results are dope. Add this one to the list, one of the many fine moments off of Unlearning Vol. 1.)
48. “Gordon Ramsay Freestyle” - Remble
https://soundcloud.com/remble2/gordon-ramsay-freestyle-prod-by-laudiano
(An attention grabbing MC if ever I heard one, Remble clearly hails from the same camp as Drakeo The Ruler - Stinc Team - but with that flow and sense of humor, he may develop a lot more than just a strong following out on the West Coast. Look out for Remble, he is knocking on the door of blowing, he’s just one key feature away...)
47. “The Shifts” - maassai feat. AKAI SOLO
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/the-shifts-feat-akai-solo
(If you haven’t checked out one of 2021′s most quietly impressive albums, I cannot recommend With The Shifts enough.)
46. “BOXINABACK” - Bris feat. Alphie Blood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ai7WYivGo
(The career of Sacramento’s Bris was really beginning to pick up momentum in 2020...sadly, he was killed the same year. I cannot pretend to be an expert in the Sscramento rap scene, I just know that it’s been bubbling for a while, and this song really captured my attention as soon as I heard it. RIP, Bris.)
45. “Last Day Out” - Rio Da Yung OG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB51CUUod1w
(Right before Rio Da Yung OG entered the penitentiary, he dropped “Last Day Out”, a song that perfectly captures what the rap game will be missing while he’s gone - and more brutal honesty than we are accustomed to hearing from Flint, Michigan’s punchline killer.)
44. “Thousand Miles” - MAVI
https://mavi.bandcamp.com/track/thousand-miles
(The whole EP is impressive, but I think this joint most actually captures MAVI’s rhyme skills, flow and song writing ability. With young talent like this bubbling up from the underground scene, the future of rap music is as strong as ever.)
43. “Appletree” - Valee & KiltKarter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPO2AXgZMSc
(Not necessarily a vibe that everyone will be into...but one that if you are into it, you will reap the rewards in abundance. It’s so enjoyable to hear Valee applying his unpredictable cadence to new music once again, made that much more enjoyable by the fact that he has already dropped THREE mixtapes in 2021 and it’s only July!)
42. “Next Chamber” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Method Man, Raekwon & Willie The Kid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1amHQefki98
(Admit it: this is the type of production we have all been wanting on Wu-Tang albums for years. We won’t get it, but this is closer to the sound that they represented....and of course let’s not forget about the always welcome WTK feature, who does more than hold his own over the NY legends.)
41. “St. James Liquor” - Skyzoo feat. Aaria
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWC_tFzqUz8
(Pen game’s don’t come much finer than Skyzoo’s. The Brooklyn MC put a lot of work into All The Brilliant Things, and the final result was a collection of thoughtful rap songs like this one: descriptive, autobiographical rhymes over beautiful instrumentation that conjures memories of classic Roots records, and the headspace that only the greatest early 90′s East Coast lyricism could provide. Great song, great album.)
40. “10″ - Drakeo the Ruler
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIRJoQFyS6c
(One of the best stories in 2020 rap music was when Drakeo hit the street once again, after a painfully long stretch of time in prison. He really hit the ground running in 2021, dropping one quality track after another...but then again, he never really stopped making dope rap in the first place, be it in the studio or over prison phone.)
39. “MASSA” - Tyler, The Creator feat. DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vGz0bFutZs
(When folks were saying that Tyler was RAPPING rapping on his new album, this is what they were talking about. Not since Kanye West has a polarizing rapper-producer excelled so well at spilling his guts all over a track, and moments like this "MASSA” make Call Me If You Get Lost the standout project that it is.)
38. "DARTGUNZ” - Chuck Strangers
https://soundcloud.com/chuckstrangers/dartgunz-produced-by-samiyam
(Chuck Strangers remains low-key one of the best MC / Producers in the game, but Chuck is merely flexing his bar-work on this Samiyam produced gem.)
37. “Messy” - Nappy Nina & JWords
https://nappynina.bandcamp.com/track/messy
(Big shout-out to Pitchfork for putting me on to Nappy Nina within their rap song of the day section, The Ones. I love her music, and when paired with the incredibly gifted producer JWords - who I was only somewhat familar with thanks to previous terrific collaborations with MIKE and maassai - the result is a dope ass album like Double Down.)
36. “Nobles” - The Alchemist feat. Earl Sweatshirt & Navy Blue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQoKO_v93g0
(The instrumental sounds as a triumphant as you could expect music from this trio to sound. My only complaint about This Things Of Ours was that it wasn’t 10-50 songs longer.)
35. “Nothing Like The Sun” - Tree feat. Roc Marciano
https://mctreeg.bandcamp.com/track/nothing-like-the-sun-feat-roc-marciano
(Okay so for the past few years, I had been pressing Tree, Closed Sessions, and just about anyone that would listen that a less than a minute clip from an old Tree promo featured an unreleased Tree & Roc Marciano joint. So finding out that this joint would *finally* being released on Tree’s Soul Trap album, it felt like Christmas morning. Now the world finally gets to hear two of the finest rap artists from the past decade plus!)
34. “nine lives” - maassai
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/nine-lives
(A great example of a song that seems to get better and better as it goes on, maassai & that horn sample are undeniably good on here.)
33. “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” - Drake feat. Rick Ross
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-lemon-pepper-freestyle?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(This one really radiates, “YES, you have heard this before”...but when it works so well, that’s not such a bad thing. Drake came ready to rap, and it will propel this joint to the top of many lists you will find on those other web sites.)
32. “triboro.” - Remy Banks feat. Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Wiki & A-Trak
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwSJ-DtZRBk
(I dig this in a big way. A few of NYC’s finest, flexing over what feels like blasting Kraftwerk out of a boombox on the L Train? I’m so on board.)
31. “Safe To Say” - Good Gas, Fki 1st & Band Gang Lonnie Bands feat. Band Gang Biggs & Glockboyz Teejaee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aykhcv625u0
(Of all my favorite projects that dropped in 2021 thus far, I don’t know if any have been as inexplicably under-discussed as the Good Gas, Fki 1st & Band Gang Lonnie Bands banger, Street Dream Team. I stumbled upon the project completely by accident one week while thumbing through all of the new joints that dropped from Detroit MCs one week, and I have kept it in heavy rotation ever sense. While not necessarily a spot-on snapshot of Band Gang Lonnie Bands’ typical sound, for a Michigan outsider like me, it makes for a great entry level intro to one of my favorite rappers out of the Motor City right now.)
30. "Early Exit” - Lloyd Banks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BUofKVrb-A
(Yeah the Roc Marciano verse sounds like it was recorded over an old radio on cassette tape, but as someone from the real mixtape era, I’m not going to let shaky sound quality distract from the fact that every other part of the song is fantastic. The bars are there of course, but the beat and hook are all spot-on, and sound quality be damed it’s just great to hear Banks & Roc together.)
29. "Yonkers” - Wiki & NAH
https://wiksetnyc.bandcamp.com/track/yonkers
(Rife with experimentation and half-freestyles, and sonically living somewhere between Company Flow and Ratking, the subterranean metro sounds of Wiki and NAH’s Telephonebooth might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you have been checking for Wiki’s music prior to this point, chances are you are going to be feeling this collaboration with NAH, a producer that I was previously not familiar with, but became a huge fan over night thanks to cuts like “Yonkers”.)
28. “John Wick” - AKAI SOLO & Navy Blue
(Whether you still believe “lo-fi” rap is a legitimate sub-genre or not, there’s no denying the abilities of these two gifted writers/artists. The wind is blowing in this direction my friends, I just hope you get on board soon and stop neglecting all of the great rap music rising from this corner of the underground.)
https://akaisolo.bandcamp.com/track/john-wick-prod-navy-blue
27. “Let It Roll Interlude” by IAMNOBODI feat. Phonte & BeMyFiasco
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVA1hXEnwnE
(Hard to believe that arguably the strongest rap verse of 2021 would be so under the radar, but here we are...)
26. "Taylor Made Suit” - Evidence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qLIuc3z7KQ
(Perhaps the thing I love most about this new Ev - both the song itself, as well as the entire album - is how incredibly effective he sounds over minimalist production throughout. “Funeral suit, same as my wedding suit”...shout-out to the legendary MC and producer, both for everything that has has endured in his personal life and his ability to turn his pain into art.)
25. “GOOFIEZ” - Mother Nature and Boathouse feat. Valee
https://mothernaturebarz.bandcamp.com/track/goofiez-featuring-valee
(When Chicago talent gets busy on a record, not many can hang with them. Be on the lookout for more and more big things from the likes of Mother Nature, Valee, and Boathouse.)
24. “Peach Cobbler” - Navy Blue
https://navybluethetruest.com/
(I’m not sure if there is a “chosen one” right now, someone destined to reach such levels of success and/or respect that Drake & Kendrick-esque waves are felt over a generation...but if there is, the mega-talented producer/MC/skater/whatever he wants to be Navy Blue might fit the bill.)
23. “Rose Gold” - 42 Dugg feat. EST Gee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhmKfKZr-PQ
(There are more than a few songs off of 42 Dugg’s Free Dem Boyz that belong in my Top 50, but “Rose Gold” gets the nod off the strength of the menacing beat paired with 42 and one of the most scorching hot rappers walking the earth right now, EST Gee)
22. "MANIFESTO” - Tyler, The Creator feat. Domo Genesis & DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnDXCoHRl4o
(The Selena Gomez/Justin Bieber bar will garner most of the hype around this joint, but don’t let it distract from the fact that this song is one of the best collaborations between former Odd Future members since the collective’s creative peak.)
21. “What’s Next” - Drake
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-whats-next?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(Pay attention to this Drake guy, I think he has a shot of making it. He makes it seem so easy, yet he has no peers at his level right now. There’s the growing underground elite...then there’s Drake, and little competition to duke it out with him when it comes to smash rap hits....assuming that is still supposed to be a thing?)
20. “MOMENTZ” - Mother Nature and Boathouse
https://mothernaturebarz.bandcamp.com/track/momentz-2
(You would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable, high quality tape than SZNZ. The Chicago MCs rock a beat that sounds like a Camp Lo leftover - and I mean that in the best way possible - and show a natural penchant for earwormy choruses that should serve them very well in this biz.)
19. “Grace Jones”  - maassai
https://maassai.bandcamp.com/track/grace-jones
(Somewhere between spoken word and where Lyricist Lounge-era Rawkus resides, you can find the warrior poet that is maassai: quite simply one of the most impressive MCs in rap right now.)
18. “How It Feels” - Lil Baby & Lil Durk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAsRTTO8L2k
(I know how it feels to care relatively little about a collaboration project between two of the game’s more revered Lil’s, then be blown away by both of them rapping their asses off for like 20 songs.)
17. “Falling Out the Sky” - Armand Hammer & The Alchemist feat. Earl Sweatshirt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctmTme9cG74
(There’s wavy, and then there’s wavy in the hands of The Alchemist, Earl Sweatshirt and Armand Hammer. One of Haram’s many standouts, this one is probably not what fans expected when they first saw the album’s tracklist, but it might actually be more special than we expected.)
16. “Capitol 1″ - EST Gee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ng7Sg1_RTM
(Mark my words: by the time we reach the end of 2021, EST Gee will be in the top 10 of every reputable rap site’s best MC list. At least I know that he will most likely be on mine.)
15. “LUMBERJACK” - Tyler, the Creator feat. DJ Drama
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WOjaYotX1c
(Who knew we needed Tyler to join forces with DJ Drama to rap over a Gravediggaz joint? Never one to do what everyone expects, when this cut dropped about a week before his new album was released, it was clear that he was ready to pick up where he left off with his impressive bar-work on a flurry of features in 2020. Now that I think about it, after “Something To Talk About” and “327″ maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that Tyler dropped one of the hardest joints of the year.)
14. “The Stellar Ray Theory” - Mach-Hommy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3GWJrL2ht0
(The single that Mach & Griselda stans were terrified to hear, at the risk of revealing their no-longer-a-secret project to be a painful example of how far the parties had drifted since their over-publicized fallout, only to find the opposite: Mach & Gunn didn’t just find their chemistry once again, they improved upon it.)
13. “Sandra” - MIKE
https://mikelikesrap.bandcamp.com/track/sandra
(With his new Disco! album, MIKE managed to step outside of his typical lane of delivery, showing how nimble he truly is as a MC, and even takes his skills to another level as a producer, delivering what might be the most enjoyable album of his career thus far.)
12. "No Time” - Your Old Droog feat. Wiki
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y8Ozq9tMLE
(The new YOD album sounds so painstakingly written and executed, you would never believe it just casually dropped out of the blue one evening. Few are better at crafting themes without compromising the joy of listening to the music, Droog delivered once again.)
11. "What The Money Taught Us” - Skyzoo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV2QEbxMYgU
(This new Skyzoo album has so much beauty to unpack, please dig in if you have been keeping it on the back-burner for some reason.)
And now the Top 10...
10. “Folie Á Deux” - Mach-Hommy feat. Westside Gunn & Keisha Plum
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF1-VvJsbqI
(Conductor Williams does it again, putting his own unique touch to one of Pray For Haiti’s standout cuts. The song is almost beautiful sound if it wasn’t for Westside Gunn, Mach and Keisha Plum pumping their own unique rawness into the beat. This one represents everything going right with Griselda right now.)
Tumblr media
9. “Hallways” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Roc Marciano & Flee Lord
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrDrvozDzo4
(Superior to anything on last year’s Mt. Marci, Disco Vietnam really blessed Flee Lord and Roc Marciano with the type of late night loungin’ in New York banger that Roc knows how to knock out the park better than anyone. “Hallways” screams late night underground radio in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresher than just about anything out right now.)
Tumblr media
8. "Seeing Green” - Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne & Drake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diUcHDlCqMo
(Many have tried to recapture the skill, swagger, and star power of The Roc in the early 00′s, but most have not been able to come close. Leave it to the diamonds in Young Money’s crown to come through and capture the pomp and circumstance so successfully, it’s amazing that Just Blaze wasn’t somehow involved. If you aren’t feelin’ at least one of these verses, time to join a hater support group.)
Tumblr media
7. “Prayers Over Packages” - DJ Muggs & Rome Streetz & DJ Muggs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r2AYxN20ZI
(Most underground artists must be so excited to have the legendary DJ Muggs lace them with a full project, and I’m sure Rome Streetz was honored. But while Muggs delivered another strong performance on Death & The Magician, it’s Rome that elevates the material to truly masterful levels.)
Tumblr media
6. “Wants and Needs” - Drake feat. Lil Baby
https://soundcloud.com/octobersveryown/drake-wants-and-needs-feat-lil?in=octobersveryown/sets/scary-hours-2-1
(Yes Drake still has the touch, one of rap music’s few legitimate hitmakers left....but hot damn, it’s Lil Baby coming through to turn the joint to ashes that carries “Wants and Needs” to song of the year caliber levels.)
Tumblr media
5. “S.R.D.” - Peter Rosenberg feat. Styles P, Ransom & Smok DZA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tzSrIZ8tso
(Don’t overthink it: the watery boom-bap backdrop provided by Buck Dudley is exquisite, and all three MCs go in. I think it’s time to admit that if it wasn’t for the like him or passionately hate him aura around Peter Rosenberg, a lot more folks would. be praising this compilation as one of the finest since peak DJ street tape era.)
Tumblr media
4. “Black Sunlight” - Armand Hammer & The Alchemist feat. KAYANA
https://armandhammer.bandcamp.com/track/black-sunlight-featuring-kayana
(What more can I say about this union by now? Al dipping into his breezy bag to bless the lyrical onslaught of billy woods and ELUCID was not something that I thought I needed, but after hearing them cook together I don’t know if I ever want Armand Hammer to go back to the bleak soundscapes they’re often know for. The contract in style was so effective throughout Haram, bringing out the best from all parties, in my not-so-humble opinion...hopefully even more to come from this alliance.)
Tumblr media
3. “TV Dinners” - The Alchemist feat. Sideshow & Boldy James
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuUGrlVivic
(A slick, seemingly harmless little head nodder from The Alchemist, Boldy and the rapidly ascending main-stage level Sideshow. I felt this one right from the jump the day Al’s This Thing of Ours EP dropped, and it’s remained high on my list of 2021 favorites ever since. Give me a bunch of chill MCs doing deceptively slick pen-work over a jazzy but simple loop, and I’m set.)
Tumblr media
2. “The 26th Letter” - Mach-Hommy feat. Westside Gunn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7jcjW8h230
(Forget the albums that go for thousand of dollars. Forget the mysterious aura around him, forget the Twitter stan-dom and those that loathe them, and forget the flames of Griselda gossip that are fanned by both fans and doubters....and just imagine you never heard this MC rap before and you have just pressed play on “The 26th Letter”. )
Tumblr media
1. “Kill All Rats” - Conway & Big Ghost LTD. feat. Ransom & Rome Streetz
https://bigghostlimited.bandcamp.com/track/kill-all-rats-ft-ransom-rome-streetz
(Whenever attempting to wrangle my favorite songs into one tidy list, there is one ex-factor that can elevate a collection of bars to an elite song: execution. You already know that when punchlines kings the caliber of Ransom, Rome Streetz, and Conway The Machine get on a record together, it’s bound to be a bar-fest....but to the extent of “Kill All Rats”??? Not expected. The name of the song itself invites a certain degree of redundancy, but when three great MCs jump on a track and write verses near the top of their skill level - and when a producer like Big Ghost sounds equally incensed with the instrumental that he brought to the table - even a straight-forward posse cut can end up being the best rap song of the year thus far.)

A Sunday mushing adventure
Tumblr media
One of the first questions I got from friends about being at a folkehøgskole was what we do on a day off. Often I'll take the opportunity to sleep in; living with a chronic illness means I need to make the most of the time I can rest. However, sometimes I use a free day to go on an adventure!
*** Sunday 17.1.21 – Sledding with Mailin
Sunday is always a free day, so we get to do whatever we want! Normally I have a long lie in, but one of my friends isn’t feeling well, so I’m taking his feeding shift today, so I’m up at 9 to get dressed and head to the dog yard. It’s a balmy -4ºC today, so I’m just wearing one layer of wool underwear under my thick hiking pants and wool sweater, snow boots, hat and gloves. Now that it’s too cold to leave water in the bowls all day, we feed the dogs a soup in the morning to make sure they stay hydrated enough; equal amounts of meat and kibble, mixed in with lots of warm water and left to soak for about 15 minutes while we scoop poop. Tequila and Tibia both pick the kibble out of their soup and then tip their bowls over, and spend the rest of the morning licking at the snow where the meat water spilled over (weirdos). Ami doesn’t like her soup, but happily chews on a ‘meatsicle’– the disk of now-frozen soup that was accidentally left in her bowl overnight.
After plenty of cuddles, the three of us who fed today head back to our dorms to change out of our “dog clothes” before breakfast. I realise this is possibly only the second time ever that I’ve been to breakfast on a Sunday! It’s 2 hours later than on a weekday, at 10am, and I am normally always either already out doing something or still asleep, depending on the weekend.
Today I’m heading over to my friend Mailin’s to run dogs with her at 11, so I change back into my dog clothes, putting on an extra layer of wool. Between the wind and the fact you’re mostly either sitting as a passenger or standing quite still on the runners, it’s always colder when you’re out mushing. For Christmas I got myself a new pair of felted wool boots and overshoes to wear when I mush, because my old snow boots weren’t warm enough for my feet– I have terrible circulation– so I’m excited to try them out for the first time! Mailin is a friend of a friend, and has become an unofficial mentor to me in the past few months. She’s a seasoned musher who lives directly across the road from the school, and most weekends and some weekday afternoons I go over to train the dogs with her. All of last semester we were using either her car or ATV because there wasn’t enough snow, so today is going to be my first sled trip with her! I’m also taking with me several bottles of coca cola and some chocolate, as a thank you for the four bags of mushing gear that no longer fits her that she gave me last week. There were some real gems in there, and I know she won’t accept any money for them, so payment in sugar it is.
Tumblr media
Geizzi in her tshirt being used as a chin-rest by Uvja
This morning Mailin wants to take out the puppies on a run; she has 5 pups who are 10 months old now, so they can run shorter distances than the adult dogs. We harness up pups Rajapää and Sorbme along with adult dogs Geizzi, Uvja, Timo, Hulda and Lelu, and Mailin show’s me how to tie a slipknot– her way of securing the sled to a post before we start. At school we use a different system involving pulling a short, thick stick out of two interconnected loops, and I have to say I prefer the slipknot method. One of the incredibly valuable things about training with Mailin has been seeing alternative ways of doing things with the dogs, as it means I have some familiarity wider variety of techniques. Mailin trains her dogs to stay quiet while we harness them up, which means things take a little longer, as every time one of the puppies starts barking, we stop what we’re doing and wait for them to stop again before we continue. Once all the dogs have their harnesses on, we start bringing them up to the line, and that’s when the full force of excited barking is allowed to start. Even after 5 months of mushing, that sound still fills me with a rush of joy and adrenaline.
I settle myself in the sled– I’ve only driven one three times before, so I assume I’ll be a passenger today, though Mailin has said I might be able to drive in the future, which is an absolute honour, considering the standard she has for her dogs, and the trust involved. She pulls the rope to undo the slipknot, and we’re off! I always love training with her dogs, but it is vastly different being a passenger in the sled than sitting in her car with her as we trained the dogs last year. The trail out of her dog yard is bumpy and windy, including a part where we both have to lean as hard as we can to the left, to try not to tip the sled into a ditch as we go up a slope; she wanted to fill it in earlier in the season, but there hasn’t been enough snow to do so. We make it through the bend, and suddenly we are out on the frozen river which marks the border between Norway and Russia. The sun came back yesterday; it rose above the horizon for the first time since November, putting an end to ‘mørketid’ (dark time), and Mailin tells me it’s traditional to make a wish when you see the sun again for the first time. I wish I’d known that yesterday, I would have wished for more snow!
Tumblr media
The stunning view from the sled, out on the Pasvik river
Mushing is always beautiful, but today is particularly gorgeous: the dogs running smoothly out on the frozen river, with the most spectacular sunrise/set happening in front of us. I honestly can’t believe this is my life now. Then, as if I wasn’t already feeling like the luckiest person in the world, Mailin asks me if I want to mush. I’m incredulous– she trusts me with this already?! But the trail is smooth and mostly straight, so it’s great for a relative beginner like me. I jump out of the sled, hop on the runners, and off we go again. Immediately, I’m struck by how much better my new boots are than my old ones: they’re wider, so I have more surface area to grip the runners, and thinner and more flexible in the soles, so I can feel what’s under my feet better. My toes stay toasty warm the whole four hours I’m out with Mailin, which is a record.
We mush down the river, past the house of the friend who introduced us, Anne. If I wasn’t terrified of letting go of the sled, I would have taken a picture to send to her, but I settle for just telling her later. Soon, we get to the point where we need to turn the team, which is where things get difficult. I assume Mailin will want to take over again, but she lets me keep driving. We are trying to get the dogs to turn to the left and loop around so we can go back, but our leaders, Geizzi and Uvja, are not having it. Tiny superstar Geizzi pushes Uvja over to the left when Mailin gives her ‘haw’ command, but Uvja just runs over to the next parallel trail, so I have to break, stop the team, and give the command again. We repeat this several times, until eventually Geizzi drags the team around by turning to the right– not what we wanted them to do, but at least we managed to turn the dogs finally! I then add to the slight chaos by not turning the sled fast enough– Mailin’s sled is longer than the ones we use at school– so I crash us into a tussock, and flip the sled for the first time. I’m mortified, both because I have tipped Mailin onto the ice, and because I instinctively let go of the sled when it tipped, something you should never ever do; if you’re alone and you let go, the team will just run off without you. Luckily everyone is fine, and Mailin doesn’t mind: “every musher tips the sled sometimes!”. I’m glad she is nonchalant about this, because a few kilometres later, as we head back towards her dog yard, I tip the sled again into the ditch she navigated so smoothly on the way out. Nevertheless, we make it back to the dog yard in one piece, and Mailin asks me if I want to go out again. I still have 2 hours until dinner, so obviously the answer is yes!
We unhook the dogs, take the two puppies out of their harnesses, and then harness up Roavvi and Koru. The third pup, Biekhan, and adults Toivo, Vandre and Storm had dog chiropractic sessions yesterday (yes, that is a thing!), so they aren’t going to run today, and neither is Ella, who is in heat. I wolf down a square of peanut butter flapjack and half a bottle of soda, then hop back into the sled to head back out onto the river. We take the same route out of the dog yard, and Mailin shows me up again by navigating the ditch perfectly, but she does have more than a decade of experience on me, so I don’t take it too hard. One we make it out onto the river, we turn left instead of right, taking the trail up towards where the river gets narrower, hugging the Norwegian edge of the ice. Just after the 5km turning point, Mailin lets me switch places and drive again, which results in me accidentally letting the team start before I have given them the command to; not a great habit for them to get into, but it is so beautiful out on the river that neither of us can be too annoyed. Mailin takes some pictures of me grinning like a loon while driving, and then I complete the hat trick of sled tips with a third and final plunge into that damned ditch. I really need to practice not letting go when I fall, which means I have to tip the sled more to practice, so at least today was a useful lesson in that!
Tumblr media
For some reason, Mailin insisted on hiding under the sled bag while taking a photo of me driving the team
Back at the dog yard, we unharness the puppies, and move the adults back to their houses for a brief snack break of some tasty frozen horse meat. Mailin is going to take the adults out again for another 30km or so after she has a quick lunch, to try and get them up to about 60km today. If she was racing this year she would be doing 300km over the weekend, but with so many young dogs, and no Finnmarksløpet ambitions until 2022, a short 60km is just fine for today. After giving the dogs one last cuddle, we head into the garage for Mailin to find her old mountain skis, which I’m going to borrow for the next couple of months, since skis are so expensive to buy new, and she doesn’t use hers very often. Norwegians don’t really do politeness in the same way Brits do, so I try to reel in my instinct to offer profuse thanks, and just say one short sincere thank you instead.
Skis in hand, I walk back across the road to school, change back into normal clothes, and head to dinner. We have 4 meals a day at school: breakfast, lunch at 11:30, middag (a hot dinner) at 3pm, and kveldsmat (supper) at 7:30. I got used to it last semester, but now that I’ve been back in the UK for Christmas, it feels weird to be eating the biggest meal of the day in the middle of the afternoon. Food at school can be a bit hit and miss, but today it is finbif, one of my favourites! I have kitchen duty this week, so after dinner I head into the kitchen to help with the dishes, which takes me right back to working as a waitress. Finally I have a couple of hours of down time before I need to feed the dogs in the evening, so I re-shave my undercut, shower, call my grandma, and chill out with a book for a bit. Then it’s back to the dog yard, where we feed with just meat in the evening. It snows a little bit, which is sorely needed, as it’s been a bad winter so far. I go back to my dorm, change, head to dinner, do my kitchen duty, and collapse into bed to watch the US men’s nationals figure skating with a couple of friends before I head to sleep, ready for my first normal school day back after Christmas tomorrow!

Baby its Cold Outside (PART 8)

Tumblr media
*****************************************************************************************************
Okay today is the day. It’s been three months since the accident and you were eager to get back in the saddle. Sure you still had the occasional jump scare, but it was manageable.
Technically you were on call for back up duty. Which means a couple days a week you go hang out at the agency and wait to see if anyone needs backup. Sure it’s not glamorous but its a step in the right direction.
The best part about getting to hang out at the agency all day was you were assigned a personal trainer that was ready to work with you whenever you wanted to. And you definitely wanted to.
You didn't waste any time going up to the front desk of the state of the art training facility in the basement level of your agency. You used to come here with Bakugo when you first started working together. But you never got to utilize the trainer because he insisted that no extra could possibly teach him something he didn't already know. You almost felt like you were cheating on him.
Your trainer’s name was Dylan. She was a small petite women who specialized in quirk training. She was an expert in taking someones quirk and helping them find new ways to use it or helping them make it stronger. And that’s exactly what you wanted to do. You wanted her to help you figure out how the hell you teleported 15 miles.
You would be lying if you said you weren't nervous. All the stories you've heard made her seem pretty intense. But then you remember who you were dating and there’s no way she could be worse than that. Hopefully.
You saw her across the training facility over by an obstacle course, it looked like she was reading a file. Probably your file. You wondered what was in there. Was it good stuff? Did it mention you were shot? Was she already judging you based off a few pieces of paper? Get it together Y/n you’ll be fine.
You couldn't help but notice her stern posture and long black hair that hung in a perfectly in place pony tail. You gulped and wiped your now sweaty hands on your training pants. Good thing you don’t have Bakugo’s quirk, you may have set off an explosion by now.
“Hi I’m Y/n! It’s very nice to meet you. I’m really excited to get to work with you. I’ve heard you’re the bes-”
Dylan’s eyes snapped to yours and you felt a chill go down your spine. Yeah intense is probably the best way to describe her. She didn't say anything just held eye contact for a few seconds before squinting and cocking her head as if she was trying to understand a abstract painting, “Interesting.”
You almost flinched at how sweet her voice sounded. A stark contrast to the heavy glare in her eyes. She hadn't even blinked yet. “Uh... is something wrong?”
Her shook her head as if trying wake herself up and blinked rapidly, “Oh no sorry about that I was just assessing your quirk. You see my quirk allows me to see the limits to others ability as long as I can maintain eye contact. So I can see how far they can go, their greatest strengths, their weaknesses, their potential. It’s what allows me to be a great trainer. I always know what needs to be worked on and how far I can push my heros.”
Your jaw dropped, “That’s a super impressive quirk! Why aren't you a hero? It would be amazing to know all the villains weakness just by looking at them.”
She just laughed, “Oh no! I’d just be a liability in the field. I’m tiny and not very strong. Besides it only works as long as I maintain eye contact, and I don't know many villains who willingly just stare into heros eyes.” She just shrugged as if this were old news. She must have to explain it to everyone. She threw your file over in the direction of a nearby bench, “Now we've wasted enough time let’s get started shall well? I want you to start by getting through this obstacle course but only by teleporting.”
You bit your lip, “Uh I don't know if I can. I have to be able to visualize where I’m going. There’s too many things blocking my view...”
Dylan gave you a bored look, “You think I don't know that? Much like everything else in this course its just another obstacle for you to overcome. Now you only have me for two hours. Lets make it count.”
And thats how you ended up going home that night covered in bruises from running into things. But as sore as you were you were also excited. Dylan had been right. The harder you pushed yourself the easier it got. By the end of your session you had managed to teleport past two obstacles perfectly fine. You were over the moon but Dylan still looked bored. “Good, now tomorrow we’ll do it again but I’ll have cementoss change the set up and I’ll blindfold you.” And like that she was off to her next client, her ponytail swaying like a pendulum. She was either going to be the death of you or the best teacher you ever had. Only time will tell.
You were snuggled up with Zuko watching tv when Bakugo came home. He looked exhausted. He dragged his feet all the way to the couch, “Oi Zuko.. get down it’s my turn. You know the drill.”
Bakugo had spent a lot of time training Zuko and you could tell that although Zuko loved you more, he definitely respected Katsuki as the alpha. He hopped off the couch leaving room for Katsuki to plop down on top of you.
You groaned in protest because you were still super sore from training. But he was already half asleep meaning his day must have been really hard. So instead of scolding him you just ran your fingers through his hair while he snuggled in to you, his head using your boobs as a pillow. He was so adorable like this.
You stayed like that for a an hour or so until your stomach started to rumble with hunger. Apparently it was loud enough for your boyfriend to hear because he started to stir, “I swear sometimes I don't know who I have to take care of more... Zuko or you.” He slowly sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “What do you want for dinner?”
It was only then that he really looked at you since coming home, “Oi... what happened to you? I thought you were on call today? Did you get pulled to duty?” You could see the concern in is his eyes, “It was your first fucking day back and you’re covered in bruises.”
You rubbed your thumb between his pinched eyebrows, “No I didn't get pulled, but I did some training with my new trainer Dylan. I was trying to learn how to teleport to places I cant see. So naturally I ended up running into a lot of stuff.”
“.... Dylan? Who the fuck is Dylan?”
“Yes Dylan. And before you get yourself all worked up, Dylan is a girl and she is awesome.”
He narrowed his eyes at you, “How awesome can she be if you end up covered in bruises?”
“Her methods might be harsh but they work. Within our two hour session I was able to do something I’ve never been able to do before. I teleported somewhere I couldn't see and had never seen before! She said our quirks are like muscles, they only work in ways that we practice using them. If we don't exercise them in other ways then we won't ever reach our full potential.”
He scoffed, “Sounds like a load of horse shit to me. Every quirk has its limits.”
“True but her quirk actually allows her to see those limits. So she always knows exactly what buttons to push to help you maximize your abilities.”
He was in the kitchen now already bored with the conversation, “Well have fun with that. Just please don’t push yourself too hard alright? And don't forget who your favorite trainer is either!”
You sighed at your jealous boyfriend, “No need to be jealous Katsu, you’ll always be my number one. Even if you did catch my hair on fire our second year at UA.”
His laugh echoed through the apartment, “It’s not my fault you tried to sneak up on me.You’re lucky it was just your hair!”
The next day you practically skipped on the way to training. Excited to push the limits once again. True to her word Dylan blindfolded you and would walk around the obstacle corse and yell. Your job was to listen and try to teleport to her based on hearing alone. It was so difficult. You were soaked with sweat and exhausted but she wasn't done with you. She kept pushing and pushing. You felt like a rubber band about to snap. By then end, it was easier but not by much. It was something that was likely going to take a while to master. But hey just two days ago you didn’t even know it was possible, so small victories.
You worked on it again the next day and every day after. It became almost like a warm up, then you would move on to other things. Today you were trying to teleport objects without going with it, which proved to be the most mentally challenging thing you had tried yet. It took immense focus and even then the best you had done was teleport a marble from your hand to Dylans hand when she was standing about three feet away. It left you dizzy and with a nasty headache. Your eyeballs felt like they were about to pop out of their sockets and your shoulders were so sore from you tensing up so hard.
“Will this ever get any easier? My head is killing me...”
Dylan handed you a water bottle, “Of course it will. Everything does with enough practice. It may not be today, tomorrow, or next week. But it’ll come as long as you keep up with it.” She took a sip of her own water bottle, “I’ll tell you, you are probably one of the most motivated clients I’ve ever had. I can see it in your body language. You’re determined to get better.”
You gave a soft laugh, “Yeah well that’s because for the last five and a half years I’ve had Ground Zero kicking my ass and he doesn't except excuses. You either give it 110 percent or you get the fuck out.”
Her eyes widened, “Pshhhh and people say I’m intense. I’ve met Ground Zero a time or two. He’s got a mouth on him and attitude to match... but he’s a great hero and from what I hear he’s actually a pretty decent guy.”
You blushed as you smiled into your water bottle, “Yeah he’s the best once you really get to know him. It might take a few years but he’s definitely the kind of guy you want in your corner when shit goes down.”
She gave you a knowing smile, “You two are lucky to have each other. You know usually I don’t do this kind of thing but between you and I, you’re my favorite client and Ground Zero is kind of my kid’s favorite hero... so what do you say you guys come over for dinner sometime?”
You tried to hide your surprise at the fact she had a child, “Oh that sounds excellent! We definitely will!”
That night you decided to take a bath to soak your sore muscles. You had your eyes closed and were listening very intently to all the noises around you. Trying to map where these sounds might be coming from like Dylan taught you. The water was still hot when you heard Katsuki come in and quietly close the door behind him. You didn't open your eyes but your smile gave you away. You heard his clothes hitting the floor and him step up to the tub, “Scoot forward a bit will ya? Make room for me.”
You chuckled as you did what he asked, “Since when do you like baths?”
“Since I walked in and saw my incredibly hot girlfriend taking one.”
He started to rub your tense shoulders and you couldn't help but moan in response. “Well as long as you promise to do that you won't hear me complaining.”
He kissed the side of you neck, “Is that all you want me to do?” You could almost hear the smirk in his voice, “All those workouts you’ve been doing have you all tense.” His voice dropped to the delicious bedroom voice he only reserves for you, “Lets see what I can do to help.”
His hands moved from your shoulders to your chest, massaging lightly the area above your breasts. His thumbs continued to rub small circles into your neck and it felt heavenly.
You slowly eased into his touch, letting your head rest on on his shoulder. You just closed your eyes and hummed in contentment. You loved simple moments like these.
His hands traveled down your arms and rubbed the sore muscles there, before returning his hands to your hair and started to massage your scalp. “mmmm your truly are the best boyfriend ever.”
You could feel his dick start to get hard as it pushed into your back. “What have I said about making noises like that? You know what it does to me.” His hands traveled back to your chest except this time it was to grope your breasts. He nibbled your ear as he started rolling your nipples between his expert fingers. You arched your back pushing your breasts into his hands. Desperate for his touch. “Oh baby girl, you look so beautiful. How did I ever get so lucky?”
One of his hands stayed on your breast while the other trailed south until it found the area truly craving his attention. Without any hesitation he pushed a finger into you, quickly followed by another. It was sweet, and slow, and it was driving you insane.
You squirmed beneath him trying to get more friction. “Always so impatient aren't you baby?”
You huffed, “I’d say I’m more than patient considering I had to wait over five years for you to make a move. And even then I believe I was the one who kissed you.”
You knew that would get a rise out of him in more ways than one, and you were not disappointed. He pulled his fingers out and with firm hands pushed you up. “Turn around and get in my lap.”
Your eyes lit up with excitement. His hand coming down with a hard smack on your ass as you briefly waved it in his face as you turned around. His hands found your waist as soon as you were straddling his lap and pushed you into his erection. “That’s right. I had to wait over five years. I had to watch as guys drooled after you. I had to sit behind you in class every day and listen to your goofy laugh. I listened to you complain about all the assholes you ever went on dates with. I watched and I waited until the perfect time...”
He thrust himself into you, “And baby, I’d do it all again if it meant we’d end up right here, right now.”
Your nails dug into his shoulder. The water started sloshing around as his thrusts became more intense and sloppy. He latched on to your neck sucking hard. It was definitely going to leave a mark and you would try to remember to scold him for it later. But right now you were too blissed out.
You were grinding into him to meet his thrusts. You really were making a mess now but you didn't care.
It wasn't long before you felt that familiar coil in you start to tighten, ready to burst any second. He pulled you into a tight hug, lifted his hips and really pounded into you. You felt your walls flutter and your vision blurred as you came for what felt like forever.
Katsuki gave you a couple more sloppy thrusts before he emptied himself inside of you.
You were both laying there panting, your head on his shoulder, his hands rubbing softly up and down your back, “So what do you say? Was I worth the wait?”
His hand froze, “What kind of dumb ass question is that?”
You giggled as you sat up and pulled the drain from the tub letting what was left of the water drain out.
He was handing you a towel when an idea came to you.
“Oh babe I want to show you something!”
“Huh? What are talking about?”
You grabbed a sleep mask out from a bathroom drawer and walked back to him. He smirked, “Oh kinky...”
You rolled your eyed and gave his chest a smack. “Oh stop it I’m serious watch this!” You put the mask over your eyes, “Okay now I want you to go hide somewhere in the apartment and when you’re ready whisper my name.”
He gave you a bored look but because he’s a good boyfriend he would go along with your shenanigans.
Not long after you heard him whisper your name, you focused really hard and *Pop* you teleported right into him knocking him over.
“What the? How did you? THATS AWESOME!”
And that’s how you ended up playing the most intense game of naked marco polo ever.... like the two adults that you are.

LOOK: FALL  TV FORECAST
September 17, 1957
Tumblr media
Look Magazine (volume 21, #19) featured the 1957 Fall TV Forecast on the cover, including a photograph of Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, and Richard Keith (aka Keith Thibodeaux) by Bob Vose.
Tumblr media
At the time of publication, “I Love Lucy” had ended its half-hour format and was about to launch an hour-long show airing every other month. It would become known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”  Fred, Ethel, and Little Ricky would be back for the new iteration, including the first one, “Lucy Takes A Cruise To Havana” (LDCH S1;E1) in November 1957.
Tumblr media
The trio previously appeared on the cover of Look in December 1956, just ten months earlier, also photographed by Bob Vose. Vose was a regular contributor to the magazine.
Tumblr media
The article (page 72) was titled Fall TV Forecast: New Labels...Old Ideas.

On page 52, there is question and answer column with Norman Vincent Peale. It is well known that Lucille Ball was an inveterate disciple of Peale’s and strongly believed in his philosophy of living. Lucille and Gary Morton were even married by Dr. Peale (author of the best-seller The Power of Positive Thinking) in an intimate ceremony at his Marble Collegiate Church in November 1961.
Others On The Cover:

Clint Walker and Venetia Stevenson (photo by Maurice Terrell) ~ Walker played the title character in “Cheyenne” a western then entering its third season on ABC. The series continued for seven seasons, ending in 1963. Stevenson did only one episode of the series, in October 1957. The series returned on September 24, 1957.

In 1965 Clint Walker played Frank Winslow, Lucy’s hunky boyfriend, in “Lucy and the Sleeping Beauty” (TLS S4;E9) and “Lucy and Clint Walker” (TLS S4;E24).
Tumblr media
Alfred Hitchcock (photo by Maurice Terrell) ~ was also entering his third season on television, as host of the anthology series “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” (1955-62).
Tumblr media
In “Lucy Meets the Mustache” (LDCH S3;E3) Lucy wants to open a sealed letter Ricky has written to his Uncle Carlos in Cuba, so she tries a inserting a knitting needle under the flap, a method she says she saw in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The scene is underscored with “Funeral March of a Marionette” by Charles Gounod, which served as the theme tune of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents”.
Tumblr media
Gisele MacKenzie (photo by Philip Harrington) ~ was a Canadian-American singer best known for her appearances on “Your Hit Parade.” She made her last appearance on the show ten days before this issue was published. She premiered “The Gisele MacKenzie Show” on September 28, 1957. The live show ran only one season on NBC.
Tumblr media
In November 1952, Gisele MacKenzie and Lucille Ball were both part of “Stars in the Eye” a televised celebration of the opening of CBS Television City in Hollywood. At the time, MacKenzie was a newcomer and Ball was representing “I Love Lucy.” A year before this magazine was published, Lucy, Desi, and MacKenzie were guests on the same “Toast of the Town” with Ed Sullivan.
Tumblr media
Perry Como (photo by Philip Harrington) - hosted a weekly hour-long variety show called “The Perry Como Show”, which premiered in September 1955. It was so popular that in the 1956-57 television season it reached ninth in the Nielsen ratings, the only show on NBC that season to land in the top ten. It was then entering its third season and would end in 1959.
Tumblr media
In a 1972 episode of “Here’s Lucy” starring pregnant Petula Clark, Lucy insists that that the British songbird be allowed to sit during her recording session, saying that Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Frank Sinatra all sat down when singing!  Early in his career, Como was a spokesman for Chesterfields, Lucille Ball’s favorite brand of cigarettes. The only time they were seen on the same screen was at the 1987 Kennedy Center Honors induction of Como, although Ball was there to introduce fellow honoree Sammy Davis Jr.
