i’ve been silently stalking the nope tag here and have been sitting on Something since i watched the film a few days ago. the digestion scene. how it relates back to spectacle and the inability for people to look away. i had seen a post stating how the digestion scene seemed almost “sexual”, in a non NSFW - way, like we were seeing something we weren’t Supposed to be seeing. how it seemed intimate. private. how, though it left so many uncomfortable and uneasy, it was made for us to see, to consume and digest ( no pun intended ). much akin to curiosity via social media, especially when disaster strikes, you can’t help but look. you can’t keep your eyes off of what you’re seeing, even if you know it’s bad. those forty viewers were made a spectacle, as jupe was trying to make of jean jacket, and we, as an audience, did what spectators do best. watch, and do nothing.
