MTG was interviewed on Fox News by Larry Kudlow. She explained why she was pleased that Tom Emmer had dropped out of the race for Speaker:

"His voting record, he voted against President Trump's transgender ban in the military. He voted for the Democrats’ gay marriage bill that allows churches to be sued if they don't support gay marriages. He also, you know, once had supported the voting rights, the national voting movement that was completely against what we stand for [sic] so that we can't have that for a speaker of the House." (x)

And there you have it--voting rights are anathema to the right-wing Republicans in the House.

The GOP would probably love to restrict voting just to white people over 55 who wear MAGA caps and attend Christian fundamentalist churches.

A Texas GOP state legislator wishes to ban public colleges and universities from serving as polling places. It just so happens that a large public university exists in her legislative district. 🤨

Republican Rep. Carrie Isaac recently introduced a bill which would ban polling locations at public universities.

This would make it more difficult for students to vote.

Isaac represents Hays County just south of Austin, where Texas State University is located.

While her bill would make it more difficult for college students to vote, Texas A&M Kingsville Associate Professor of political science Travis Braidwood said college campuses tend to have a lot of people live near them who aren't students.

"Potentially shutting them down anyway could also deprive other voters access to those voting places," he said. "It's really unfortunate. If anything, you want to expand the franchise of voting, not restrict it."

3NEWS received recent voting statistics from the Nueces County Clerk's Office that gave an account of the number of voters at area universities.

Last November, 2,364 people voted at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi while 3,204 voted at Del Mar College.

"So really, this raises the other question, if it isn't voter fraud, is this an attempt to suppress certain voters, particularly young voters?" Braidwood said.

Yep, it’s pretty blatant. Private universities (especially Christian ones) would not be covered by Rep. Isaac’s bill.

Assistant Professor of political science for TAMU-CC Sanne Rikhoff said that colleges have long been at the center of discussion when it comes to polling locations.

Rikhoff said counties normally have the deciding say in where polling locations are placed.

"The counties are ultimately the ones who decide where polling places will be in an election. And most often they choose public places with good parking, availability. And also a space in which these elections can take place throughout early voting and election days," she said.

So many deeply stupid arguments are emerging from people who are supposed to be more enlightened than conservatives and tankies like it's genuinely brain breaking.

It's "Support the lesser evil" when it comes to American politics and voting a man complicit in funding and aiding genocide against someone who would continue to do so but with more open racism, but it's ignore the lesser evil argument when it comes to Hamas or the Houthis. You have to call them evil terrorists and if you acknowledge any context or even analyse their motives you are evil and support them because they only exist to hurt me personally and they want nothing but western blood. Ignore how Israeli leaders have more blood on their hands than all of Hamas combined. Ignore the active genocide. Ignore the Houthis (who yes are evil) explicitly saying why they chose to do a blockade and how the west can stop it. You can't acknowledge a lesser evil in this situation because they're brown and not part of our civilised western democracies. It's evil vs evil but one is actively committing a genocide and one is trying to push governments into stopping it.

"But the Houthis are evil! They don't care about Gaza!" The West did not bomb the Houthis because they're evil. They don't care about the Houthis antisemitism or anything else they do to Yemen. They bombed them because the Houthis hijacked ships in order to disrupt trade, and have stated that they have done so in order to stop the genocide in Gaza. Because all the West cares about is it's capitalist system and violently enforcing it. Bombing them instead of trying to stop the genocide means that in this situation you have handed the moral high ground to the fucking Houthis. In this specific situation aka the genocide of Palestinians, the Houthis are the lesser evil to the democratic west's Trump. Congrats to the governments who took part in that. Great look.

"You can't afford to play purity politics against Trump!" You are demanding that people who are having their family murdered as we speak shut up and vote for the man who is arming and supporting the fascist who is doing the killing. You are saying their families are acceptable sacrifices to save your own skin. There is no good option here but the smug righteousness makes you disgusting to me. At least acknowledge what you're actually asking for instead of being a complete moral coward.

"Silly leftists, Bibi hates Biden!" Yes! He does! And yet Biden will still grovel and tank his own support and bypass congress to send arms to a fascist who hates him and wishes he was Trump, because Biden's support for western imperialism is stronger than his own dignity as well as his concern for his voters. How is this an actual argument I've seen people make. Netanyahu hating Biden doesn't mean shit if Biden won't stop licking his boots and trying to prove he can be just as supportive of fascists as Trump!

Biden did a lot of good with domestic policy and with Ukraine. He and his government are also supporting a genocide and if you deny that at this point there is no hope for you to be considered a serious person. People understand why Trump supporters insist he did nothing wrong and people understand why you do the same for Biden.

Like just. Cop on.

I swear to fucking god I've tried not to rant about this because a) there are far better read people than me debating this shit and honestly I don't have anything meaningful to add and b) I can't believe we're making it about the fucking US yet again. but also if I see one more fucking post acting like people refusing to vote for Joe Biden because of his involvement in the ongoing Gaza genocide are doing so out of a sense of abstract self righteousness and an unwillingness to violate the ~purity of their morals~ I'm going to lose my actual mind. It's a genocide. It's a fucking genocide. At LEAST 30k+ people are dead and the only reason the count's that low is because those people included the ones counting the dead. These people were killed with Biden's bombs, money, and protection. Biden has killed AT LEAST 30k+ innocent people. Jesus fucking Christ why are you acting like drawing a line at 30k+ dead civilians is bad. "Oh Trump would be worse" fucking maybe but also if the 'lesser evil' is still 30k+ dead civilians than maybe this is the time where you admit both sides of the Western political spectrum have a vested interest in destroying and subjugating the global south and that your vote will not protect them. If you are voting for Joe Biden because of harm reduction just fucking admit you are doing so on the corpses of 30k+ dead Palestinians as well as every other innocent person in the global south who was killed because of our politics. bestie the only thing different about me compared to other trans people is youve actually met me and decided I'm a human person deserving of courtesy, and not a fox news headline boogeyman. I have a few issues with "Vote blue no matter who" but I think if you sincerely believe it you have GOT to keep that shit quiet and out of the ears of Democratic politicians. Not to be a cynic but like 90% of the time when Democrats do good things it's because they want to get reelected and if Democrats become convinced that they don't have to try to build voter enthusiasm they're just gonna stop
