That's What She Said
MTG was interviewed on Fox News by Larry Kudlow. She explained why she was pleased that Tom Emmer had dropped out of the race for Speaker:
"His voting record, he voted against President Trump's transgender ban in the military. He voted for the Democrats’ gay marriage bill that allows churches to be sued if they don't support gay marriages. He also, you know, once had supported the voting rights, the national voting movement that was completely against what we stand for [sic] so that we can't have that for a speaker of the House." (x)
And there you have it--voting rights are anathema to the right-wing Republicans in the House.

“jaime did it mostly for self preservation” “he did it bc he was ordered to kill his father” are not only blatantly incorrect and borderline illiterate reads of what is in the text but idk why people find it unfathomable that someone like jaime would want to prevent thousands of people from violently burning alive. like it is not actually a difficult moral equation which is why it is at the center of jaime’s arc and his relationship to his society because he realizes that the ethical constructs of westeros seem to be in opposition to this very obvious moral choice as seen by how the situation could even escalate to the point that it does through the enablement of the tyrant by the respected institution of the kingsguard and the uncritical upholding of the honor system over an actual coherent moral code. same with the scorn he receives for killing what everybody acknowledges as an objectively horrid tyrant who harmed innocents and violated law that knights are also sworn to protect and uphold and actually contradict by not acting against.

At this point, the MAGA Republicans have an agenda on education. It's focused on defunding and destroying higher education (since the college educated don't vote MAGA Republican, they are in a sense the focal enemy) and destroying confidence in and defunding primary and secondary education. All funding from primary and secondary education would then be shifted to institutions which in fact engage in political indoctrination to support MAGA Republican through, these are Catholic schools and white Evangelical schools. Hillsdale College in Michigan, a fundamentalist church-affiliated academy for production of the Stepford Wives or the Republic of Gilead, provides the model for the small quantum of higher education that can be tolerated.

I’ve been having the terrible thought that the texts I get from political groups are kind of like a hydra. Every time I text Stop to unsubscribe, I get subscribed to three more (because they now know it’s a valid phone number and someone IS on the other end)

Thank you for what you said on that post about Usopp and Zoro’s post-water 7 relationship; I hate when Usopp’s actions in water 7 are treated like he was just being a brat. While I agree an apology was necessary, personally I think the way Zoro went about obtaining it would cause more problems in the long run if the narrative didn’t back him up. Giving your friend the cold shoulder and demonstrating that you’re fully willing to leave him without even trying to talk things out? That whole sequence left a very bad taste in my mouth. Sorry for going off in your inbox but tldr I appreciate what you said
ok ok listen, i get what you mean, ive been there as well, i too thought in the past what zoro did was wrong and unfair, and i still partially think so, but what really cured this conflict for me was that zoro said all that, thinking he's so damn rational and mature about it all, saying if the first thing usopp says isn't an apology he won't accept him back, and then usopp comes and ofc the first thing he says isn't an apology bc it's usopp, usopp who's always a little slow, usopp who always needs that extra shove to be honest, and while we probably all agree that this is a highly emotional distressing situation for an insecure guy that could have been avoided, zoro too is under a lot of stress, torn between staying true to his words or staying true to himself and the crew, the whole crew including usopp, and he too decides to not hear what usopp says, just like luffy, bc no matter how much zoro values loyalty and discipline, he breaks his own vows here for others, for usopp, bc he ofc wants usopp back on the crew as well, he said so himself that having usopp back is the best possible outcome for them (and as i like to argue, it's the only outcome for them as a crew in a long run), and they are all so young, "playing pirates" including zoro, bc they're not pirates first no matter what any of them says, they are nakama and nakama don't leave one behind
also can you imagine the dwelling anger zoro had to face from the others? nami and chopper are obvious bc they both think that this whole thing is stupid from the beginning and they are already very emotional about this, it probably feels weird to zoro that sanji is agreeing with him which kinda makes zoro wrong by default (what's up with sanji is an entirely different story but that's for another day), robin doesn't have the full picture while franky has a very one-sided picture that nearly none of the others seem to be aware of, and luffy... well luffy tries to be a good captain since being a bad captain had led to this situation in the first place, so he tries to be nonchalant about this, and im pretty sure he is to some extent, truly believing that if usopp doesn't want to return to them, he can accept that, all while stressing over so much on the tje inside bc the way he breaks once usopp apologizes speaks for itself imo
i also kinda think zoro is actively trying to be the bad guy here, but that's also for another day lol

side note about last days: i say it’s detective noir-inspired in the tags. to elaborate, it’s not detective noir—it’s an urban fantasy thriller and for one thing it’s not nearly bleak enough to truly be noir fiction lol. but it is inspired by a lot of the noir tropes i know. it has vibes. class is a thing here. corrupt institutions leave our heroes with few places to turn. our heroes are willing to do some not-so-morally-upright things for their ultimate goals. it’s set in a dirty city filled with dirty secrets. but largely, i think, i’ve taken from my favorite piece of noir writing advice i’ve ever seen: “you need a dame with a past and a man with no future”. pearl is probably the single most detective-noir inspired character here; she’s not a femme fatale, sure, but a dame with a past…?
anyway make of this whatever you will fic’s not done yet and as i said it’s merely inspired by noir i wouldn’t even begin to claim that’s the genre it’s actually in. like I said. urban fantasy thriller/detective story thats a bit too bright and fun for that, and with protagonists who are probably way too likable and have a bit too much hope to be noir protagonists, lol. just wanted to elaborate a little bit about that one tag,

what if baji is actually shinichiro’s trigger and not sanzu?? the desire to save mikey, baji always being present for the accidents, the hallucination when he starts seeing shin instead of takemichi when he’s dying.. this could also be how shinichiro is still alive/trapped in another time line?? because baji was there so if he were the trigger and he shook his hand when he was about to die it could’ve worked like how it did for takemichi and naoto????

love it when i look at anti trans/terf/otherwise transphobic posts that are “receipts” of trans people being harmful/stupid/“crazy” and it’s just. trans people being confident. or making jokes. or having confusing relationships with gender or sexuality. or literally just talking about themselves. it’s very funny and depressing

Honestly, with the “queer can’t be reclaimed because it’s too bad of a slur” discourse conveniently happening right before any time there’s a rise in anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and hate crimes, I’m almost at the point of wanting to just reclaim and put f-g on everything and everywhere to make a point
I’m tired of the huge waves of respectability politics and sanitized purity culture suspiciously happening every single time the entire community is under attack or at risk more so than usual
Y’all gotta know when people are trying to sell y’all an obviously conservative created distraction from the actively violent and harmful reality they’re trying to recreate, maintain, or reenforce.

I got to talk briefly about the history of punk (music) today in an English as a Second Language class (TOTALLY UNPLANNED; the teacher just invited me to talk about what kind of music I like since I mentioned it to a couple of students I participated in a communication exercise with, and then a student asked "What's punk?" so I got to explain) and man, oh man, I was trying not to vibrate five feet off the ground with how happy it made me to talk about punk! And the teacher was going to let me choose a punk song to show the kids at the end of class but unfortunately she forgot. (I was trying to wrack my brain with what songs might be appropriate to show them, anyway, and since I talked about the history of punk mostly, I wanted to show them - particularly a class full of mostly Indigenous and/Mexican students - "Survive" by The Bags because obviously if I'm gonna represent punk in any manner, Alice Bag and The Bags is my top priority! :') Though I considered "We Don't Need the English" but then I thought that might set a bad example in an ESL class, lmaoooooo BUT I WAS STILL TEMPTED).
