Der "Schweigepapst"

Aus den Geheimarchiven von Papst Pius XII

Gemeint damit ist Papst Pius XII, der sich bis zum Kriegsende nie öffentlich zu den Verbrechen der Nazis geäußert hatte, was der Dramatiker Rolf Hochhut in seinem Stück "Der Stellvertreter" thematisierte. Nun hat der Archivar Giovanni Coco, einer der offiziellen Forscher, die damit beauftragt sind, die Bestände des Vatikanischen Archivs aus der Zeit des Pontifikats von Pius XII. zu sichten und zu ordnen, einen vergilbten Brief vom 14. Dezember 1942 gefunden.

Es war ein Schreiben des deutschen Jesuiten und Nazi-Gegners Lothar König an Robert Leiber, einen deutschstämmigen persönlichen Assistenten von Papst Pius XII. Vor einer Woche wurde der Inhalt des Briefs in der Literaturbeilage des «Corriere della Sera» publiziert. Das Dokument belegt, dass der Papst über die Kriegsverbrechen der Nazis in den Vernichtungslagern Kenntnis hatte.

Nzz.ch zitiert aus dem Brief: «Lieber Freund!», schreibt König, «die letzten Angaben über Rawa Russka mit seinem SS-Hochofen, wo täglich bis zu 6000 Menschen, vor allem Polen und Juden, umgelegt wurden, habe ich erneut über andere Quellen bestätigt gefunden. Auch der Bericht über Oschwitz (Auschwitz) bei Kattowitz stimmt.» Mit «Rawa Russka» (eigentlich Rawa-Ruska) ist eine Stadt im Westen der Ukraine gemeint, vor deren Toren das 1942 fertiggestellte Vernichtungslager Belzec lag.

Da der gefundene Brief nur Teil einer längeren Korrespondenz zwischen den beiden Deutschen war, wird es noch weitere Beweise geben. Dass König den Papst über den Inhalt informierte, ist aufgrund seiner Stellung als persönlicher Assistent des Papstes sicher. Einen Hinweis darauf gibt auch die Weihnachtsansprache des Papstes vom 24. Dezember 1942, in der er erstmals deutlicher von den "Hunderttausenden" sprach, "die ohne eigenes Verschulden, bisweilen nur aufgrund ihrer Nationalität oder Rasse dem Tod oder fortschreitender Vernichtung preisgegeben sind" - ohne die Mörder beim Namen zu nennen.

Erst 2019 hatte Papst Franziskus  beschlossen, dass die Geheimarchive aus der Zeit des Pontifikats von Pius XII. geöffnet werden dürfen. Vielleicht wird man dann auch "irgendwann" mal mehr erfahren über die "Rattenlinien" (auch Klosterrouten genannt), die Organisation der Fluchtrouten für führende Nazis, SS- und Ustascha-Leute nach Kriegende in die Staaten Südamerikas.

Poland-Ukraine relations deteriorate amid protest by Polish hauliers

About 20,000 Ukrainian trucks are stuck at three crossings after Polish transport workers started protests under the slogan “Committee for Defence of Truckers and Employers in Logistics.”

Previously unknown to the public, the group is organising demonstrations without any official support from politicians or political parties.

The protest is blocking traffic in both directions at the Dorohusk and Hrebenne-Rawa Ruska crossings, as well as exit traffic through Korczowa.

Demonstrators are demanding to restrict the entry of Ukrainian trucks into Poland by introducing permits and prohibiting the establishment of trucking companies in Poland with capital from outside the European Union. Both demands are aimed at protecting the interests of Polish truckers while potentially affecting Polish consumers.

Polish hauliers are facing competition from Ukrainian truckers after sanctions led to the loss of substantial business in delivering goods to Russia and Belarus.

Un jour j'irai en Ukraine

En 2000 j'ai fait un grand voyage en Europe de l'Est, République Tchèque, Pologne, Slovaquie, Hongrie, en voiture, sac au dos. Et en Pologne je me sentais très proche de l'Ukraine où se situe aujourd'hui ce qui était le camp de Rawa-Ruska, où mon oncle a été envoyé par les Nazis pendant la dernière guerre mondiale. Churchill le surnommait le "camp de la goutte d'eau et de la mort lente". Mon grand oncle en est revenu, contrairement à tous ses codétenus juifs qui ont tous été envoyés à Auschwitz, Dachau etc. C'était un camp de représailles pour enfermer les soldats récalcitrants, saboteurs, les résistants. Mon grand oncle et mon grand père (que je n'ai pas connu, il est mort deux ans avant ma naissance) s'étaient évadés plusieurs fois. Mon grand oncle était la personne au monde que j'aimais le plus. C'était un monsieur seul, humble, simple. Il n'a jamais été marié. Il vivait avec ses deux chiens de chasse. Ma maman n'aimait pas qu'il parle de la guerre et de sa détention dans ce camps, pour le ménager, mais je pense qu'il sentait que j'étais à l'écoute et il était content de nous en parler, et si ce que racontait les adultes m'ennuyaient, j'ai toujours éprouvé de l'admiration et de l'empathie pour son expérience là bas, le froid, l'arbitraire, la solidarité, la fraternité, la résistance. Il ne possédait rien, il n'avait rien. Pas même la maison qu'il habitait. Il avait quelques bons au trésor qu'il nous a légué à ma sœur et à moi car personne d'autre de la famille ne venait le voir. Il a aussi laissé une canne qu'il a gravé là bas, et une photo de ses camarades prisonniers là bas, avec au dos une inscription cryptée pour ne pas être déchiffrée par les Allemands. C'est l'énigme la plus fascinante que je connaisse. La chose la plus précieuse que j'ai eu entre les mains. Il m'avait aussi donné son blouson de cuir. Il me serrait mais je n'en voulais pas d'autre. Quand je suis arrivé à Paris, il faisait très froid mais je n'aurais quitté pour rien au monde ce blouson qui ne me tenait pas chaud. Même quand il a été déchiré, j'ai continué de le porter. C'était au delà du fétichisme. Quelques années après sa mort, je suis donc allé en Pologne, j'ai "visité" plusieurs camps de concentration. Mais ça faisait un peu loin Rawa Ruska. Maintenant, la perspective de m'y rendre est encore plus éloigné, je ne désespère pas d'y aller. Je veux y croire. Et cette "nouvelle" guerre ranime beaucoup de sensations mêlées chez moi. Nouvelle guerre... les guerres se ressemblent beaucoup. Même les soldats russes et ukrainiens se ressemblent. Ils se ressemblent tant que pour se distinguer, ils sont contraints de porter un brassard blanc pour les russes, jaune pour les ukrainiens. Ils sont frères. Les jouets sacrifiés d'un homme dérangé, isolé et paranoïaque. La paranoia est le mal de notre époque. Les hommes d'aujourd'hui sont les marionnettes de leur paranoia qui les égare et leur fait perdre tout discernement. Toute logique est emportée comme un sol balayé par la dévastation.

Polish hauliers block border checkpoints with Ukraine over loss of business

Polish hauliers have started a blockade of Ukrainian freight transport at border checkpoints.

The protesters disagree with Brussels’ decision to simplify trade rules for Kyiv. Ukraine’s ambassador to Warsaw accused the demonstrators of acting in Russia’s interests.

The Polish Committee for the Protection of Carriers and Transport Companies reports that blockades have started at Polish-Ukrainian border crossings. According to the Polish and Ukrainian border services, with the start of the protest action, the movement of freight transport on the border was almost completely stopped. Major problems arise at the following crossings: Grebenne-Rawa-Ruska, Korczewa-Krakovec and Dorohusk-Jahodyn. A report published by the Ukrainian Border Guard Service said:

“The protest organisers allow to pass one truck per hour through, as well as vehicles carrying humanitarian aid, animals and perishables. We ask citizens to take this information into consideration.”
