Gosh, I’m sorry because I know this is gonna be an unpopular opinion (and please remember it’s just my opinion), but... ProZD was NOT a good voice casting choice for Holst. There’s such a weird discrepancy between Holst’s physical appearance and his weird voice. He looks more like he’d have a voice like Patrick Seitz, or Jake Eberle, or Kirk Thornton, or Mick Wingert, or Raymond K. Essel... Sorry, I’m just listing off gruff or deep-voiced actors from Heroes that I can think of, but this casting choice was a miss for me. He sounds like he’s trying to imitate Cam Clarke’s Arthur voice.

Apparently the most recent Three Houses daily banner was extremely blessed, because I got both characters I needed off of it (Lysithea and Hilda), + a merge for Claude My Beloved and a Constance that came in out of nowhere like she knew she was the only Ashen Wolf I was missing (Hapi actually came home a little while back I just forgot to mark her off in my catalogue)

Also not pictured is Ascended Ishtar coming home. I didn’t even know ascended heroes were in the standard pool but Ishtar has always been very kind to me about coming home and I appreciate that so much about her cause I think she’s neat. I once again have all currently available Ishtars.

Making Some Book VIII New Heroes Predictions

Now that we've gotten the trailer for the final New Heroes banner of Book VII, it's time to look ahead to what the next year may bring in terms of new characters to be added to FEH. Two years back I made an entire video out of this topic on my channel...but that's a lot of work and I'm about to dive into the Super Mario RPG remake over there, so I'm doing this the easy way this time.

*When I refer to "premium" units in this post, I'm talking about ascended, rearmed, or attuned heroes. Also legendaries and mythics, if it's outside the context of New Heroes banners.

Guaranteed banners

Engage

Definitely one, possibly two again this year. IS is breaking up the cast by country, so an Elusian banner with the royal sisters, Goldmary, and whichever of the guys polls highest is an easy prediction. I'd say Solm as well, but it's already such a natural fit for the January special banner theme that we may have to wait for then to see those characters all together. 2024 is doubtful there for that, considering we just got a special Timerra. It's possible we may see a DLC-focused banner, like what happened with the Wolves - and IS will absolutely push Zelestia as a new character even though Zephia's already in the game.

Everyone's also predicting that Engage will sweep the next CYL with at least three of the four slots, so that in combination with a standard array of seasonals, a likely appearance on the fallen banner, and the odd legendary or mythic (legendary m!Alear at some point is all but assured) will lead to complaints of Engage fatigue.

Thracia

Unless you count ascended Ced or Sara backpacking for desert Linde (I don't), we haven't had a new FE5 unit in Heroes since March of 2022. The poor game is long overdue, especially because aside from Engage it's the title with the most potential new units to add. Granted that those characters aren't exactly popular, but with a whopping nine women still missing from its roster FE5 can lock down the key headlining waifu demographic in a way that almost every other game would struggle to at this point. There's a plot-relevant magical waif (Linoan), a loli (Tina), a dancer (Lara), a wyvern rider (Eda), or a pegasus knight to follow up on 2022's Karin (Misha). Again, none of them are especially popular, but Thracia could make up a viable banner easily even without help from Heroes fanservice. I'd expect one sometime between January and April, when the New Heroes events lack OCs.

Path of Radiance

The Tellius games alternate books, likely because of the significant roster overlap. Book VII got a Radiant Dawn banner, so here we are. Since FE10 poached Lucia though, FE9's only got Calill for a new female addition. Prediction for the banner would be Calill, a premium female character (one of Mia, Ilyana, or Nephenee, maybe Mist?), a Heroes OC, and some male unit. Largo would be logical, but I could see a more random pick like Zihark or Tauroneo.

Three Houses

A surprising number of Fódlan characters are still stuck in alt hell despite the years of fatigue. There's enough of them in fact for two or possibly three more New Heroes banners without significant help from OC padding. We've already seen multiple examples of IS using characters' Hopes designs for lazy premium alts, so I'd also expect more of that.

2023's banner was all Lions (and Rhea), so next year's will focus on a different house. If it's the Deer, I'd guess Lorenz, Leonie, premium Lysithea or Marianne, and either a Heroes OC or whichever of Raphael or Ignatz polls better. If it's the Eagles, Dorothea and Caspar are locks as well as premium Bernadetta most likely, along with Heroes fanservice or possibly regular Manuela. After those two ideas have been used up, the few remaining members of the roster are very likely doomed to something like the recent Echoes banner where they've got to split it with multiple OCs. The handful of male non-student characters who got dropped from the Hopes roster (and also Rodrigue from Hopes itself) are probably out of luck entirely bar the odd GHB like Cyril got a few months ago.

Oh, and fallen m!Shez possessed by Arval is pretty much a lock next year too. Fódlan is amazing for those wanky fallen banners.

(New) Mystery of the Emblem

Archanea closed out Book VI a year ago and hasn't been seen since, so a comeback in 2024 is reasonable. Complicating matters is that despite the abundance of missing units, most of them are 1) male and/or 2) utterly forgettable. The waifu picks are Midia, Cecil, Marisha, and Yuliya...not exactly inspiring options. As 2022's banner was ostensibly taken from FE1/11 owing to pre-corruption Hardin and as FE3/12 have more options for new units, that would be the more likely play. Will we finally see a banner that forces IS to turn an earlygame cleric into a headliner? Historically those characters have fared poorly in Heroes (we're still missing all of Edain, Lana, Safy, Elen, and Laura), but half of the options for new women are just that.

Fates

Last we saw FE14 New Heroes they were opening this book, so it's a reasonable expectation later on in Book VIII. Even though Fates still holds the largest percentage of Heroes's total roster, it surprisingly has a handful of characters it can still offer. That's especially true for the second generation, although because that was the focus of the last banner IS may be alternating them. The waifu options in Gen 1 - Mozu, Scarlet, and technically Fates Anna - aren't inspiring, but it's not like Sophie and Mitama left over in Gen 2 are much better. Throw in a premium royal or two and/or a Heroes OC and call it a banner.

Assuming two Engage banners, that's seven of the ten New Heroes slots. Those below are ones I'm less certain of - but something's got to fill out the holes in the schedule.

Wild Cards

Genealogy and Binding Blade

Both reasonable options although they're kind of running low at this point. FE4's banners alternate, so the next one should be Gen 1...which has only Edain and an assortment of men that even fans of the game are hard-pressed to care about. FE6 has, uh...Elen? I did say IS hates earlygame clerics.

The one thing that would certainly bolster the prospects of either of these games would be a remake announcement, which would offer tons of options for premium alts and potentially drum up interest in missing early picks like both games' Christmas knights and such. It would be odd if we didn't get any kind of development announcement for FE in 2024, and a remake would be perfect filler while IS works on whatever the next big release is planned to be.

Sacred Stones

Seems to be a favorite among the FEH staff considering how often it shows up on summer banners despite its age and low level of waifu bait potential, and the last time it got a New Heroes banner was near the start of this year. Too bad it's down to Ismaire as far as new female characters go.

Blazing Blade

Unlikely as it's just now getting a new banner, and it too is running out of viable options. With Isadora getting added, Vaida's the only female character from the game left.

Awakening

Technically overdue since it last showed up in October of 2022, but it's been running on fumes for years. We're talking just Vaike and Laurent here. Even Kellam got a seasonal! I expect that FE13 will be the next victim of a double OC banner. Speaking of which...

Echoes

...Not happening. We all saw that travesty last month. Jesse and/or Nomah might be added sometime in 2025, if IS even bothers.

Yeah Sothis was so cruel and selfish that when she won the war against the humans/agarthans she.. restored the land back to its original self before it was ravaged and then screwed off to Zanado. And when she saves Billy's live from getting axed by Kostas or that time when they were stuck in Zaharas and she sacrificed her existence to fuse with Billy so that she could save their class and the people, or when she woke Billy up after the timeskip. I swear Nopes ruined discourse lmao.

Small correction, Sothis didn't "screwed off" to Zanado, she fell asleep.

Just like her granddaughter, Sothis expanded all of her forces and then fell in a restorative sleep, but Nemesis popped up and the rest is history. And let it be from FEH or FE16, we know Sothis enjoys, uh, having a body, being able to move around, party in festivals, etc etc. But she choose to forego this to fall in "sleep mode" to restore the land (and its people? It's still unclear what "humans" like Raphael are, for Agarthans they're not humans, but to Nabateans, they are, so...)

Sothis also shows care, albeit in a tsun tsun mode, for Billy and Billy's students. In Nopes's voiced lines - especially in the jp script - she feels delighted to see Cethleann, calling her a "wonder", seems proud of her children having grown up, worries about Cichol underperforming and shows grief and anger at relics.

IIRC @fantasyinvader already explained it in an earlier post, when FE16 is supposed to follow the Nabatean/Sothis narrative, Nopes is supposed to be the inverse, following an Agarthan narrative/agenda - the endings are reversed, in FE16 only one route ends with the Nabateans having disappeared from the surface of Fodlan, in Nopes, it's the 2/3rds. There's also the sky during the endgames - when Tru Piss was the only route that ended at night, when the others were at dawn or showed some light (Dimitri moving towards the light at the end of AM, Rhea's falling during the sunset in SS, Claude being likened to a new dawn in VW) in Nopes only AG, iirc, ends during the night - most likely because AG is the "bad ending" route for your faction (Agartha), aka Nabateans are still alive, and they return home.

This more or less explains why Sothis is seen in bad light, or supposed to be seen in a bad light, in Nopes - after all we side with Larva.

There's also the tidbit from the developers who wanted to show a more "terrifying" side of Sothis, which would only make sense in that optic, we're Larva'n'pals, Sothis won't save out butts this time, but scorch them since we're trying to erase her and anything related to her... (excepted for AG, again, but the plot follows the same beats because the Fodlan games are nothing but half-assed projects).

I won't say Nopes ruined discourse, but rather the same group of people who ring at your door to sell you flyers for their newest party, and refuse to go until you go to their party and tell them it was the best thing ever.

All jokes aside, I think the Fodlan games have a very interesting subtext, but the devs didn't believe in it, or rather, in its potential and prefered to go with low hanging fruit - make a new waifu, "uwu alone b4u", raise steaks, build parasocial relationships up to 11, jpop music and dialogue that sounds intelligent - to make their game(s?) sell.

And it's unfuriating because deciphering all this subtext and making weird fan theories is still bajillion times funnier than playing those damn games, but even at one point, I guess I'll stop honeypotting because the source material, the one I'm supposed to care about, is just so dry.

Few thoughts on engage:

Really did not expect to adore Pandreo as much as I do. Like i went in with eyes on Diamant,and don't get me wrong I like the guy,but Pandreo is where my loyalties lie.

Not really sure how I feel about Ike's voice this time around. Like I know it's still Greg but it's very different from FEH Ike. And I kinds liked that Ike was this big muscle dude with a soft voice. It's nothing awful really,just different is all. Mostly I imagine Emblem Ike is just Ike in work mode,since Mercs gotta be big and scary and stuff and his natural voice is just his softer voice.

Engage has managed to not make me dislike any of the characters so far,unlike 3 Houses which trauma dumped on you in ever support and either made me hate them entirely(Ingrid/Hilda/Bernadetta) or made me forget they exist (Annette/Petra/Raphael)

Claude x Male reader “Sunny beach smiles”

A claude x reader oneshot since his beach design on FEH is just stunning to me.

You hadn't expected Lady Rhea to announce that the Golden Deer house would be free to have a free day since you all had won the battle of the Eagle and Lion.  Your professor had kindly asked Seteth if there was any good places to go, and when seteth had mentioned a beach not too far from Garrech Mach, your professor knew she couldn't pass that up.  So now here you were, sitting in the shade of a few umbrellas that were set up to shade some of the students who didn't want to be in the blistering heat. You were one of those students. You, (Name) Eisner, the younger sibling of byleth, was hiding under one of the bigger umbrellas to hide from the heat. Or so you told yourself. In all reality you were hiding from one person. Claude Von Reigan. Your house leader. 

Why were you hiding from him? well, a few days before you had ended up accidentally telling Hilda and Dorothea that you had a crush on him. The two ended up spilling it to some others “accidentally” and later it spread that Claude had heard. You had gotten to know Claude over the few months that you had been at the monastery with your father and sister, and found that you could trust him and he could do the same for you. When you first met you piqued each others interest and grew from there. He had sought you out many a time when he was curious about you and throughout many battles had now found that you were trustworthy enough to hold little of his secrets. He would never be ready to share everything but you never minded, enjoying his company enough. But back to now, you were still hiding. If you weren't at the beach you would rather be shut in your room like Bernadetta, trying to forget that you existed to relieve embarrassment. But now luck was not on your side as Ignatz came to sit near you under the umbrella. “Hey (name)? you under here?” Ignatz bent down to see if you were under there. He had a concerned look on his face as he turned to look behind him before looking back to you. “sorry to bother, but our professor and Claude have been searching for you. Our professor is concerned about you and Claude wanted to talk to you.” 

You sighed and told Ignatz that you would go out of hiding in a minute and he left to go over to Lysithea and Raphael. Raphael was hoisting up lysithea while walking into the ocean as she nagged at him to put her down before laughing. you smiled at the scene before turning to look to your right where Claude and your older sister were chatting before they looked over to where you were. farther beyond them was Leonie and Lorenz bickering over something while Cyril tried to break them up. You saw Hilda and Marianne sitting on the beach talking and seeming to collect seashells. Flayn seemed to be fishing with Seteth as the two waited for any new catch. You saw the Ashen wolves, who are now golden deer, chatting with each other and just enjoying being at the beach, the laughing of Constance and Balthus showing how much they were enjoying the beach. 

Getting up, you slowly and anxiously made your way over to Claude and Byleth. Your sister immediately perked up when she heard you coming over, giving a small smile and pat on the shoulder which you knew as an “Glad to see you, are you ok?” you nodded at her and she nodded back, heading over to where Flayn and Seteth were.Claude turned to wave at byleth before side eyeing you. Your eyes darted to look everywhere but him, he took notice immediately and grabbed your wrist to drag you away. Byleth gave you a knowing smile and waved. You cursed how evil your sister could be. You felt the pull on your wrist as Claude dragged you away from everyone on the beach, going farther down the sandy walkway to the eastern side of the beach. 

You tried to ask where he was taking you, but he gave you a look that made you stop speaking. When he finally stopped, he let go of your wrist but then intertwined your hand with his. “So...you've been avoiding me. I think I know why, but that really hurt me ya’know.” Claude gave you a small smirk, but it was one that never truly reached his eyes. You thought that he could see through you at that moment with how much his eyes glared at you. “I'm sorry It was stupid of me to avoid you-” you were stopped as Claude let out a sigh. “You avoided me for three days. Three days of me worrying if I did something wrong. Three days of me wondering if you didn't want to be near me anymore, but then I heard Hilda and Dorothea talking and I realized. But you didn't have to ignore and avoid me, you could have talked to me.” Claude gave you a hurt look. You spoke quickly, “I avoided you because I cant handle rejection and I was embarrassed that our friendship and trust would be thrown down the drain and I couldn't let that happen.” Claude looked at you then the hand that was still intertwined with his, giving a small smile. “That wasn't the way to do it you know. You could have talked to me and heard about my feelings before rushing off to hide.”  Claude gave you a smile as you gave him a shocked and confused look. He rolled his eyes with a smirk before bringing your hand to his lips. Your face flushed and he laughed, “Do you see it now? No matter what people might have said, I love you, and i'm a bit shocked you haven't seen it. But if this was the way to show you then I don't mind.” He smiled at you and turned out to the ocean. My general thoughts & opinions on them - Marianne is one of the best characters in 3H imo, the character growth over the timeskip, the beautiful design, a good unit, interesting character. I do still wish the game had beast or dragon units though and she was one of them

Favorite moment of theirs - The Raphael support where she is just talking to birds "This bird just happened to be… speaking human." I love her... disney princess!

My general thoughts & opinions on them - my little guy.... my little dude... Idk they really just packed EVERYTHING into this guy. He's got the dead parents, he's lived his whole life stuck in a war, he's got a bit of the imposter syndrome. He's not the only FE lord to get sad over killing some of the enemies but I just... in the world of fe4 which feels so dark and tragic compared to the other games he is such a shining light !

Favorite moment of theirs - The hidden scene in the final chapter where he gets to talk to his parents for the first and last time :,)

My wife is posting hers, and it will likely go up before mine: I found a tier list for the Three Hopes designs and goddamn do I have opinions.  The wolves weren’t in the tier list, but I’ll make a note of where I’d put them.  Also, this is intra-tier ranked, at least until C-tier, where I kinda lost the thread and was like “Man, I don’t know.”

S: Look at me.  Look me dead in the eye, and tell me that this is not Peak Raphael.  If you can, you are wrong.  This is what Raphael was destined to look like.  It is perfection.  Mercedes always looked good, but I’m gonna be honest, this is my favorite design for her.  It keeps a superior outfit to her pre-timeskip appearance, but keeps longer hair than the post-timeskip, effectively giving the ideal traits of both.  Lysithea is also just the idea.  Again, always looked good, but something about this design just really works for her well above the post-timeskip.  My wife says it’s the veil, but I dunno.  I think this just feels more her taste.

A: Hilda always looked good, but I really like this outfit and the ponytail.  It’s good shit.  Similarly, Dorothea always looks good, but I like this one better than the post-timeskip one.  These are, however, more minor improvements than the S-tiers.  Petra, by contrast, it purely better.  I really like this design a lot better.  Annette and Marianne are back to “always look good,” but I’d kinda argue I like them slightly less than post-timeskip?  Annette’s timeskip design was perfect, and you can’t really build on perfection, so they went a different direction and it works but it’s not as perfect.  The only thing this Marianne has over timeskip is her hair being down, and it looks really good.

B: I do not like Ignatz, but I feel like this is the better design for him.  I can’t say I have stronger feelings than that.  Felix...a part of me wants to now put this in A, but I dunno I think the wilder hair in timeskip worked for him.  Ponytail is solid, though.  Speaking of, Linhardt looks solid but much like Ignatz, no strong opinions.  Ashe is...the same.  I’m sorry, he always looks the same.  Same with Claude.  At least Claude got rid of the facial hair, which is an improvement.  Ferdinand I think looks worse than timeskip, it’s the shorter hair, but it’s fine.  Dimitri I feel looks slightly better, but I think that has to do with not looking like he’s been going around the countryside scavenging for a couple years, and with FEH releasing Embla, I am sympathetic to enjoyment of the drowned rat look being to some people’s taste, so B it is.

All the wolves go in B for now.  It’s fine.  They’re fine.  Balthus looks good, but I feel this is actually a step down from Savage Mountain Man he had going on in timeskip.  Yuri’s fine, and Hapi’s fine, but neither were my favorites to begin with.  Constance should be an S, because Constance, but look, I can’t.  I cannot accept this design.  She doesn’t have the curls!  Where are the ojou-sama curls?!  That is an integral part of her design, and you have nerfed her

C: Hey, remember when Claude got facial hair and it didn’t really work for him?  Sorry, Dedue.  I’m skipping that one for now.  Ingrid’s hair is weirdly geometrical to me, but I will admit my preference for long, toxic-masculinity hair means I like it better.  Hubert looks worse off than his timeskip.  It’s not full vampire vibes yet.  Lorenz similarly doesn’t look as good.  Leonie...is fine?  It’s an appropriate midpoint, but again with the hair.

Now, Edelgard.  Listen.  On balance, I like the hair, and it’s far from the worst design.  But I really needed to fight the urge for bottom of D-tier on knee-jerk response.  I do not like this nearly as much as either of her other outfits.  I feel like the borderline magical girl outfit would be fine in a vacuum, but this is Emperor Edelgard here.  I can’t get behind this as much as her timeskip design, which is an 11/10.  So while I am being permissive here and trying to appreciate it on its independent merits, know that it’s asking a lot of me.

D: I think we can all kinda agree Caspar looks noticeably worse, yes?  I don’t think he looked great before, but it was better than this.  Sylvain is maybe just me taking a useless stance, but I feel like this just looks wrong for him.  On the same kinda tier as Magical Girl Edelgard, but less “it’d be fine if.”  Something about it just bugs me.

F: Her outfit is fine, but her hair is so stupid that I can’t stand it.  I’m glad these games are so fast-paced I don’t have time to look at the characters, or I’d never be able to play as her.
