Arcane Archer Conclave
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For day 19 of JanBrewary we had the task of remaking a subclass. So I elected to give magic archery to rangers. I got to mess around with a lot of different ideas here, I hope you like it.

Sanguine Seeker Ranger Archetype | Vampiric power to hunt your quarry
Tumblr media
PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here! You should also follow my new Kickstarter so you can be alerted when it goes live next year!
My gift to you is vampires. This will probably not be sanctioned by the church.
Life Sense
One of my favourite senses. I blame skyrim where it's broken as hell, but oh so good.
Drain Blood
What do you do with the blood when you find it? You drink it of course.
Blood Trail
But what if it gets away? Well, hunt it to the ends of the vampire-damned earth
Drink Deep
Once you catch it, give it the deep suck. Give your foes anemia.
Misty Rebuttal
And not directly blood flavoured, but quite handy regardless :)
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
Third Casters Revised
Undying Templates
Bone-Eaters
School of White Necromancy
I also have three classes, and a splatbook over on DriveThrueRPG to check out:
The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!

Vigilante
When evildoers run rampant and the city calls out for justice, vigilantes rise to the occasion. Clad in larger-than-life personas, capped off with capes, masks, pairs of tights, or some combination thereof, vigilantes embark on a crusade against villainy in all its forms. Many vigilantes are beacons of hope, dispatching foes with fighting prowess and dramatic flair, while others paint themselves as brooding antiheroes, out for themselves and seeking some kind of vengeance against the criminal underworld.
Tumblr media
HEROIC MAGIC Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Heroic Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you but doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.
MASKED PERSONA At 3rd level, you assume a costumed alter ego to conceal your identity as a crime fighter. While wearing a mask or costume, your AC equals 10 + your Wisdom modifier + your Dexterity modifier.
Tumblr media
HAND-TO-HAND At 3rd level, you have learned to fight using nothing but your bare hands and an array of “Pows” and “Blams.” You gain the following benefits while you are unarmored or wearing only light armor: • You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes. • Your unarmed strikes deal improved damage, and further improve as you gain levels in this class, as shown on the Unarmed Damage table below. • When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can use your bonus action to add an extra unarmed strike damage die to the damage roll.
UNARMED DAMAGE
Tumblr media
Starting at 7th level, your unarmed strikes are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
FLASHBANG Starting 7th level, you carry a number of flashpaper bombs for quick escapes and dramatic entrances. As a bonus action, you throw a concussive bomb at your feet, disorienting and distracting nearby foes. Each creature within 5 feet of you can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn.
BIFF! BAM! POW! Beginning at 11th level, you can unleash a barrage of punches in the name of justice! Whenever you make an unarmed strike on your turn, you can choose to make two unarmed strikes with disadvantage. These attacks always have  disadvantage, regardless of circumstance.
CATCHPHRASE! By 15th level, your personal catchphrase has gained supernatural levels of cultural cache. You can utter your catchphrase whenever you hit a creature with an attack roll, beat a creature in an opposed Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check, or when you succeed on a saving throw. Until the start of your next turn, you have resistance to all damage and can add your Wisdom modifier to damage rolls. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you score a critical hit or finish a short or long rest.

Team Kill-Dracula as a DnD Party
Van Helsing: Cleric, Grave Domain. Probably the easiest choice. As a doctor he’s the party’s principal healer, he’s the one who keeps whipping out holy symbols and prayers, and he has all the know-how on identifying and dealing with all things Undead. Also Van Helsing using Path to the Grave would be incredibly badass.
Arthur Holmwood: Ranger, Beast Master Conclave. This one’s a gimme. We already know he hunts regularly, it’s the pastime of choice for rich lordly types, and he spent one notable scene summoning and skillfully handling some dogs.
Quincey Morris: Fighter, Cavalier Archetype. I definitely knew he was the party’s fighter, but it wasn’t until I did some digging that I found out there was a fighter type with an emphasis on mounted combat. My man is a COWBOY. Admittedly Matt Mercer’s Gunslinger homebrew is also tempting, but since it has more emphasis on tinkering, I thought the Cavalier perks would fit Quincey a little more.
John Seward: Cleric, Mind Domain. This man gave me SO MUCH TROUBLE because everybody else slotted so neatly into their classes and I could not for the life of me figure out what fit him. I finally landed on cleric since he’s the second doctor in the party, and when I did a little more googling I found out that mind clerics were a thing, which is both incredibly cool and fitting for the guy who has given me psychic damage multiple times.
Jonathan Harker: Barbarian, Path of the Berserker. He’s just. He angy. When he swung a machete at Dracula and stole his lunch money I was like “Yeah that was a Reckless Attack. He definitely had advantage on that.” Once his wife got the chomp all bets were off. He Would Like To Rage.
Mina Harker: Bard, College of Eloquence. I debated between this and College of Lore, but I landed on eloquence because this woman’s charisma is high as fuck, she grants inspiration every time she opens her mouth, and she seems to know exactly what to say to whoever she talks to, from her husband to Lucy’s suitor squad to Renfield. Let’s be real, she united the whole group single-handed and probably would have charmed her way into being the face of the party if Van Helsing’s paternalistic Victorian sensibilities hadn’t kicked in. Unfortunately she also has one level in warlock with an undead patron she doesn’t want, but on the bright side she can cast Eldritch Blast now.

DnD classes? In MY Scum Villain?! It's more likely that you'd think
Or I decided to merge two of my hyperfixations for efficiency's sake
So, it all started with this post, where I got to think really hard about which DnD class would suit Binghe the best and, like a flash of lightning, my third eye opened wide with the realization that (at least to me) both Bingge and Bingmei are Paladins. Specifically, Bingge is an Oath of Vengeance Paladin and Bingmei is an Oath of Devotion Paladin.
Now, although I think Bingge is pretty self-explanatory, I think I have to elaborate a little more on Bingmei because at first glance having our dear protagonist be a Devotion Paladin sounds a little weird until you remember that a Paladin's Oath can be to anything or anyone and... you see where I'm going with this... you cannot convince me that Binghe wouldn't swear absolute devotion to his Shizun. All of his tenets would also revolve around Shen Qingqiu so if they are not expressed exactly as written on the rules, just know that it is our boy interpreting them in his own way.
And of course, after thinking about this for so long, I had to try and match some other character to DnD classes (although I won't expand on that too much, at least for now [may change my mind later and add more stuff])
SQH is a College of Whispers Bard pretending to be something else (now... what that something else is, I haven't gotten that far)
MBJ is a Storm Sorcerer (maybe homebrewed to be related to snowy climates rather than storms) (this is the one I have the least conviction about so if anyone has a better idea please do tell)
At first with LQG I was like "he is the fighterest fighter to ever fighter" but then I thought about it a little more and now I'm convinced he is a Hunter Conclave Ranger.
SHL is a Way of the Open Hand Monk
YQY is... and hear me out here... a Pact of Hexblade Warlock (of course his pact is with the Xuan Su sword, which is deeply cursed)
SJ!SQQ is an Inquisitive Rogue, though the general public thinks he is a College of Lore Bard
SY!SQQ is the College of Lore Bard, however he also has a single level in Warlock (his patron is the System) (after thinking about it, I believe the System aligns itself better as an Archfey patron, and SY's wifebeam is him using Fey Presence to charm everybody around him without even realizing what he's doing)
Anyways, if you think that a different class/subclass would fit a character better, or if you have ideas for characters that I didn't mention, you are more than welcome to add on!! I would love to hear different opinions on this!!

Mystery Inc as a DnD Party
Tumblr media
I figured as long as we're still in the vicinity of spooky season, I'd build everyone's favorite gang of teenage mystery solvers as a collective unit. Pulling from their group dynamic to come up with a party roster that will give everyone in the party a designated role.
Tumblr media
FRED JONES
PALADIN || OATH OF THE CROWN
INVESTIGATOR BACKGROUND
Skills: Athletics, Insight, Investigation, Persuasion
Freddie is the dimwitted but lovable himbo leader of the team. He's also the muscle, except in moments of athletic skill, when he's outshined by Daphne. His backstory isn't always consistent, but he's usually a jock of some sort. He's not usually all that book smart, but he has a good heart, and inspires his team to success. Paladins who swear an Oath to the Crown hold law and justice above all else, and Fred usually enjoys catching the bad guys and seeing justice served.
Tumblr media
DAPHNE BLAKE
BARD || COLLEGE OF LORE
NOBLE BACKGROUND
Skills: Athletics, Acrobatics, Deception, Insight, Investigation, Persuasion, Sleight of Hand, Performance
As surprising a choice as this might seem, Bard is actually a very appropriate choice for Daphne. Modern Daphne is the most supportive and emotionally intelligent member of the group. From What’s New Scooby-Doo? to Be Cool, Scooby-Doo, Daphne has become the emotional powerhouse of the group. Sensing when her friends are off their game, and offering sage advice to her friends when they need it. She’s also become a very creative girl, skilled in singing, dancing, fashion, design, and more. She’s grown to be the group’s resident skill monkey, almost on par with Velma’s uncanny encyclopedic knowledge on all brainy subjects. If a lock needs picking or the gang needs to get out of a trap, you can count on Daphne to have a nail file, bobby pin, or something else on her person to save the day. She's typically also the face of the group when it's not Fred, meaning she's going to want high Dexterity and Charisma. I chose Lore because Daphne is a reporter in Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and this is the only real career she's ever had. A lore bard is basically a more magical reporter, and singing the tale of her group's mysterious endeavors.
Tumblr media
VELMA DINKLEY
ARTIFICER || ARTILLERIST
SAGE BACKGROUND
Skills: Arcana, History, Investigation, Nature
Velma was the most debatable one for me, as she could be a wizard or an artificer. And I was really leaning toward Wizard, but I had to stay true to Velma's character. She's been a tinkerer and a gadgeteer for a long time now. Velma is absolutely fascinated by robotics. But while Velma in our world can handwave superstitious nonsense, in a world with gods, demons, and real ghosts, I could absolutely see Velma using her knowledge to become a powerful wizard. I even considered the Knowledge Domain Cleric because it's basically designed to be a magical detective, and if Velma was going to worship a deity, it'd be a god of knowledge and reading. Ultimately, I did choose Artificer as it was more in-line with her base character as a skeptic and a scientist, but she would work as a Wizard. Plus, as is, Daphne is the only full-caster in the party.
Tumblr media
NORVILLE "SHAGGY" ROGERS
RANGER || CONCLAVE OF THE BEAST MASTER
GUILD ARTISAN BACKGROUND || COOKS & BAKERS
Skills: Animal Handling, Investigation, Stealth, Survival
No surprises here, Shaggy and Scooby are a bonded pair, and the two were going to be joined to each other one way or another. Scooby is technically a Beast of the Land, and there's no Great Dane stat block, so call him a Mastiff if you need to. You can't really build Scooby by himself per se. There's no dog race unless you go Custom Lineage or something, and even then, I'd struggle to assign Scooby a class as he's mostly an animal sidekick. Make sure Shaggy picks up Cooks Untensils and proficiency with them so he can become the party's designated camp chef.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, I'm happy with how the team turned out. Fred's the tanky and bulky frontliner, Velma can use her robotics to help solve mysteries, Daphne is the face on top of having so many skills, and Shaggy works with Scooby. Inadvertently, they're also all classes with access to healing spells. So, while I suspect Daphne being the sole full caster will probably assume primary role of group healer, everyone is capable of healing each other up. Making this a great group of supportive friends taking care of each other.

Subclasseptember Day 29: Wild
The Deadeye Conclave - Homebrew Ranger Subclass
For something that's treated as Ranger's equivalent of Divine Smite, Hunter's Mark really doesn't get treated like Ranger's Divine Smite. There's Banishing Smite, Searing Smite, Blinding Smite... Why no Hunter's Mark variants?
We'll have to put that project on the shelf for now. Until then, here's this.
We're almost done with Subclasseptember. Let's finish strong!
Playing around with image formatting around text. You'd think there'd be a better way than manually adjusting every single line, but I haven't heard of it.
... Hey, what happened to Aloy's arrow? Are arrows usually headless?

Idk if you play DnD, but if you do, how would you build Finbarr and Olivier?
Finbarr is a kind of shrinking violet/heartless killing machine guy (in the least cool way possible- no, worse than that), I think he'd make an awful player character in dnd lmao but I think if his pact with esk can be used creatively it could be fun. so:
human, folk hero, ranger (fey wanderer) x warlock (archfey), sharpshooter feat. all skill points into dex and con, absolutely nothing in cha (multiclass was against his will), and equipped with 'silvered' arrows.
Olivier, who famously ate his own father's still beating heart as a way to take control of their sect & claim it imbued him with enough Male Energy that he was no longer considered a woman, would be an amazing character to play imo because he's so intense about everything. Physically beefy but his main talent is charisma and a magnetic personality
shifter/werewolf, gladiator, paladin (oath of conquest) x bard (college of eloquence), inspiring leader feat. he'd be a cha & str beast
I made those up on the spot but in case u were wondering about other characters, behold their actual character sheets I have made: (and played) in dnd. They were antagonist npcs so were allowed to be kind of broken lmao
Tumblr media
He was a ranger (hunter conclave) x fighter (arcane archer) and because Bowman is technically a bow and a man, he gets two sets of saving throw proficiencies - esk got int and wis, bman got the other three, and nobody got cha because the version of him in dnd was set up to be kind of a loser (even moreso than usual!!). he got two extra attacks (one for being a ranger, one for being a fighter) and, if sufficiently buffed by his party, could make a stealth roll of 35 lmao
his two pals were more basic cleric & warlock/druid builds
Tumblr media
Erica was a secondary player character for a while, originally I wanted him to have a more interesting class but to be perfectly honest, thief is so badly broken at high levels that anything else would be a downgrade and i wanted him to be good at what he does
