Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Vampire in the Garden (2022)
Very beautiful anime, very underrated.
Tumblr media
(Fine and Momo, playing music together.)
Vampire in the Garden is a five-episode Yuri anime on Netflix. It is set in a brutal world where humans and vampires fight a bitter war against one another. One of the anchor points in this fight is music, which humans have outlawed and vampires embrace. Having both lost their girlfriend in the fighting, fourteen year-old soldier-in-training Momo and vampire queen Fine get accidentally thrown together, and decide to run away, looking for an almost mythical place where, according to the promise, vampires and humans make music together.
Vampire in the Garden is a very beautiful, tragic story about hatred and trying to fight it in order to build something good together. While it is a show, it feels a lot like a movie cut into separate episodes for Reasons, so it can be watched as both. The relationship between Momo and Fine is a very beautiful and loving one, and can be read as either a romance or as an older lesbian mentoring a young one. Which is how I chose to see it, and I personally very much value this kind of queer relationship, as we don’t see it often in media.
The series is a closed story, and hasn’t been renewed, so it’s safe to assume that it was always meant to be a limited series. From what I gather in the Tumblr tag, it never gathered a very huge fandom, and the feelings on it are rather mixed. People who are interested in the very deep and serious themes seem to generally like it, while the more fanish group, who wanted to see a clear and explicit romance with a happy ending do not.
You can watch the trailer here, and stream the show on Netflix. I have also written a post about lesbian vampires as a subgenre before, if that’s something you’d like to read.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Bones of Green and Hearts of Gold by K.A. Cook
I must admit that I haven’t really read much aromantic fiction, but I will always remember this short story collection very fondly.
Tumblr media
(Two covers for the same book, the first is the old one I remember and is on Goodreads, the second the new one I found on Patreon)
Bones of Green and Hearts of Gold is a short story collection by writer K.A. Cook, @aroworlds here on Tumblr. It contains twenty short stories centring aromantic but not asexual characters in both fantasy and contemporary fiction. Because it is a short story collection, it allows for a variety of protagonists and a variety of experiences with being on the aromantic spectrum. Often, two or three stories revolve around the same character, allowing for glimpses in their lives at various points.
I have reblogged the original post here, with my review at the time. The link to a PDF in the original browser doesn’t work any more, but the Patreon link still stands, and you can get this book for free from there even now. And as I said above, @aroworlds is One Of Us, with a blog focussing on aromantic activism.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. tips for redditors joining tumblr
make sure you have a profile picture: otherwise people will think you're a bot. we currently have a bot infestation right now, so many people block on sight unless you look like a human
reblog stuff you like: reblogging is how this site operates. it's sorta like resharing the original post around, and it'll show up on your blog too so people who follow you will see it. sometimes you can add a comment or tags, but it's not necessary
make your experience better: if you're on desktop, download Firefox, ublock origin, shinmigami eyes, and xkit. these make the website usable, block ads, and let you know who you should murder on sight. if you're on moblie... uh, idk...
turn off tumblr live: literally no one uses it, and it probably steals your data. go to blog settings, dashboard preferences, snooze tumblr live. you'll have to do this every week, and we celebrate that on Snooze Tumblr Live Tuesday
we have lots of holidays: we have Out Of Touch Wednesday, Feliz Jueves, Kill A Cop With A Baseball Bat Monday, Get Lost In The Evil Forest Saturday, and Summon The Dark Lord To Bring About The Destruction Of The Earth Wednesday. some of these are real
don't go in the cave: don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave don't go in the cave
take lots of breaks: mental health is important. discourse is really stupid and dumb, and you can absolutely block whoever you want for any reason. be sure to log off if you feel tired or stressed
you have to be queer and a freak: this is the LGBT sjw website. to be accepted here, you need to act like a homosexual pervert. furries are really popular here. find a group of furries to be horny with. do it now!
most importantly, have fun: I never really used reddit much, but I know that it was like tumblr in that it was one of the social media sites that was most similar to the forums and message boards of yesteryear. as the internet is slowing being killed off by corporations and capitalism, it's important that we make the most of the small space we have left.

Nimona! *spoilers*
*WARNING! Major spoilers for Nimona follow.*
It's colorful, queer, and finally here. Trials and tribulations can make the victories all the sweeter, or so we are told. Only it seems there is some proverbial proof in the pudding: #nimona has finally made its way to Netflix after something of a bumpy ride, to put it lightly—and we are here for it. It's been a long time coming, too, with years and years spent in development hell.
Since its inception in June 2015, the film has survived a mega media merger between The Walt Disney Corporation and 20th Century Fox Animation (and delayed twice); in February 2021, one year before its projected release, Disney announced it was shutting down Blue Sky Studios, and production of the film was canceled entirely; it was then revived by Annapurna and Netflix; experienced several changes in creative leadership and a global pandemic (you may have heard of it) and a studio shutdown just as the film was finally coming together.
Now, the story that started life in ND Stevenson's beloved webcomic finally has made its way into silver screen heaven with its arrival on Netflix these past days. And it seems the dashboard's faultlessly loyal, long-time fandom can't get enough of this wild, wonderful, and life-affirming adaption.

four days ago on monday my (radical queer black) therapist told me they were an adult when 9/11 happened, and not only is the current zionist propaganda being pushed by the united states the exact same playbook, but they said it was "hundreds of times more intense" due to social media. they said it was surreal to experience it again. i said being overwhelmed with feeling makes me feel like i'm making it about me, someone with no ties to the middle east. they said it's the most natural, human thing to experience horror and grief when being made to witnesses a holocaust of innocent people.
three months from turning 30 i thought i knew everything there is to know about the evils of the world, and yet i find myself surprised to realize there was still a last sliver of innocence within me left to lose. history will remember the short-lived american empire as the single most sadistic, brutal, barbaric, monstruous and bloodthirsty sovereign state to ever plague our species, and i can only hope to live long enough to see it burn to the ground. هي فلسطين من النهر إلى البحر

Reading your posts, and I see you talk about, you know, creating mutual aid networks, or affinity groups. It interested me especially when you talked about relationship anarchy and building such a queer community in resistance to capitalism and exploring open love. How... how does one create such a group/community? Everything sounds great, but what are the practical steps? Especially for someone living in a rather middle big Sweden city.
If you live in a middle-big city, there's a good chance that an anarchist community and/or a radical queer community already exists and that there's a good deal of overlap between the two. Especially anarchist trans people seem like soooo abundant in the trans community. (Because they state screws us over so much.)
Anyway, communities tend to form around a space, like an anarchist cafe or a queer club house or a non-permanent space like a recurring event. When looking for an existing community I tend to frequent those spaces. When I see queer anarchists at protests I try to make friends, invite them to the spaces I know and ask what spaces they're recommend.
This takes one skill you'll need to practice: walking up to strangers and having that awkward first conversation with someone you don't know. This is an essential skill in any form of community building and the only way to learn it is to throw yourself in and to experience that being very awkward for a bit is not the end of the world. Where spaces are lacking, I try to create them. Creating a space sounds hard and if you want a permanent autonomous space then yes, it is hard. But creating a non-permanent space doesn't take a huge amount of work.
It's basically a matter of finding a venue that's okay with you hosting an event and then spreading the message "There's a queer/trans/anarchist/whatever hang out here every first monday of the month." and then just consistently show up there so there's always at least one person to warmly greet new people. (which again takes the 'talking to strangers' skill). The start of building a community can be as simple as that.
In a while, the people in that community will start to care about it and at that point you might want to talk about sharing the monday greeter shifts so you no longer have to always show up for the space to exist. Another step you might want to take is to build communication channels to announce events, like a website and social media channels. Discord is quite useful as an in-group channel to allow people to chat after the events, plan new events, etc.
The big, difficult, but super valuable step that will make your space a permanent space. I wouldn't recommend trying that alone and I don't have a lot of experience with that, so I'm going to leave that step to someone else.

==RenewAsACrew Farewell==
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr / Twitter / IG
Alright lovelies, we're gonna have a little chat for a moment here. Please take a moment to read this part. I know a lot of you are feeling ansy and uncomfortable right now. It feels like something that we were hanging on to for a long time for support has suddenly fallen out from under us. That's a valid feeling. Feel it. It's good to feel it. We got this far with #RenewAsACrew, and it's scary to think that support isn't there anymore. I want to point out though, the most important part of that sentence, and that is "WE". #RenewAsACrew was a leadership team that steered us in a direction so that WE could hone our creativity, tenacity, love, support, and unhinged-ness towards our common goal, and you know what? We FUCKING DID IT. WE DID. ALL OF US. This campaign is not just #RenewAsACrew it really is ALL OF YOU. Every single one of you has stepped up and done something to support this campaign, stepped out of your comfort zones, supported each other, and you have accomplished SO MUCH in so little time. We can appreciate #RenewAsACrew, and all they did to help steer us, but we can and we WILL keep going. I know a lot of you have already heard and have even joined the #SaveOFMDCrew that is now stepping up as our navigator. I joined their discord last night, and I have to say, their organisation, passion, communication, problem-solving, is all top notch. They listen to us, the crew, they help provide support, and I have every confidence that they're going to keep us headed in the right direction. So please remember, this is not an end. Take some time tonight, vent your frustrations and fears, and feel them, and then come back tomorrow knowing we're all still here. I'll say it again-- we are not losing ground, we are not losing speed, or momentum, we are pivoting. We are changing course so that we can keep doing what we do best, and that is kicking ass, supporting one another, and fighting for our show and for queer and diverse representation in media. We will get our joy back in some form or another, even if that form is just this amazing found family we've all stumbled into. We got this. Now. Onto the fun stuff.
==Cast & Crew Sightings==
So I just have to say.. it could be the whole end of the social media strike thing, or just new week new stuff, but the cast and crew SURE does seem to be a lot more active today. Take that as you will, but I'm using it to fuel the "good stuffs happening" vibe many of us have been feeling. They really are watching what we're doing if Lindsey's comments are any indication

I'm in the process of compiling as many resources as possible into a documentation repository I use. It'll take a couple days to catch up with them so I'll be a bit scarce while that's happening because it's a lot of information! Also, FYI: I am taking Saturday the 4th off -- it'll be my first day off in 5 years and I'm going to the hotsprings nearby with some friends, and that night we're going to drink and watch OFMD and GO! So there won't be a recap for Saturday from me at least (pending if I get sick again), you're all welcome obviously to put one up if you'd like!
== Love Notes ==
It's been a very long day lovelies. You did an amazing job. Just know whatever you did today, we are proud of you, and you could never disappoint us here on the crew. You're exceptional, and we see the ever wonderful you! Bonus: A little love note I found on IG I thought you might like:

Happy 4th December - No, we are not there yet
Sorry in advance, this is a bit of rant, which is not something I usually post. But it's a wet Monday morning and I've had a really frustrating weekend, and today, on this anniversary of maybe the biggest piece of gaylor lore, the pictures and headlines I'm seeing just tipped me over the edge into a rant.
So, on this 4th December 2023 it is 9 years to the day that the world woke up to grainy pictures and videos of Taylor Swift, the world's most famous popstar and America's ultimate good girl, allegedly kissing a woman at a 1975 concert. And the tabloids and social media went crazy over it. And not in a good way. I remember the way I felt, so very nauseated about reading words like 'lesbian affair', 'shocking' and 'fling', not just on Taylor and Karlie's behalf, but the way it made me feel about myself, too. I was brutally reminded that 'lesbian' in 2014 was still seen as a dirty word and society's default was to see sapphic relationships as something scandalous and a fall from grace, rather than something beautiful. To this day I look at this photo and can't help but feel awed by the love and intimacy that their body language exudes, but the world didn't see it that way, they were just obsessing over whether they kissed or not and how to spin that into a dirty story.
Tumblr media
That was almost a decade ago. So, have we made progress? Is it all fixed and every queer person (especially artists and celebrities) can live authentically and freely? Well, no, of course not, as was possibly proven again this weekend by Billie Eilish, who confirmed that she is gay (more or less unplanned) in an interview. Nobody should be surprised as she was never subtle about her queerness, yet it cost her over 100,000 social media followers in just 24 hours after explicitly coming out. Being gay, especially for women, is only acceptable when mainstream society don't have to see it. Don't talk about it and God forbid, don't kiss in public. Never mind that straight people do it all the time. The very same tabloid paper that printed kissgate pictures with the word 'shocking' next to them, put Taylor on the cover two years later and described her romance with Tom Hiddleston as 'exciting' and 'sexy'. And on the very morning I see the tweet about Billie, I find this message in my inbox:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why indeed...? And I was of course expecting Taylor to show up at another football game, but to see her looking somber in a Carol-esque red fur coat, while her partner and all her friends are having a lovely time in LA... it just makes me angry today. Yes, maybe we've made progress in same ways, but we are still so far from where we need to be for everyone to be able to come out without repercussion. In a better world, Taylor would have been in a gorgeous dress next to her wife, rather than sitting next to the girl who would have bullied us in High School.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And btw, not only was Rebel Wilson blackmailed into coming out by the Sydney Morning Herold, she has lost thousands of followers and has pretty much focused on film making rather than acting since coming out. Maybe this was always her plan, but also, maybe not. Interesting, that film making is also seemingly becoming Taylor's second career leg...)
So, anon who sent me the question above, take this as my answer. Why is the most famous popstar in the world not out in 2023? Most likely because it would cost her so much of what she's worked hard for over the last 17 years. Not withstanding that the answer may also be 🛴 and what he did in 2019 that prevented her from coming out then, the world is just not a very good place for a celebrity to be anything other than straight, white and cisgender. And after 10 years of activism in LGBTQ+ organisations, today I feel a bit deflated by that. But with every single person who feels brave enough to shout their truth from the rooftops, we break down the walls a little more each time. 🌈

A couple of days I had this overwhelming urge to talk about shit, so that happened. It was a good thing, maybe, and I’m #thankful for all your love and support. Anyone who said, “Things you wrote have helped me”—that’s why I write about personal things, like mental health and being bipolar as well. That’s entirely why. I truly believe that I am not alone in any human experience I have had, and I hope you can feel like that, too.
I realized that I did, in fact, talk about being bi here in 2015. I have no memory of this at all; I think it says a lot about the last 6-7 years that I didn’t even remember a time when I felt like I could say that.
So the post on Monday might have been superfluous after all, but I cried while writing it, so I guess that tells you I needed it. I’m not a crier, is the worst of it. I cry like three times a year. My backed-up Tear Concentrate burns like xenomorph acid. I don’t care for that shit at all. But it was kind of a good cry? Emotions, why do we have them.
As a point of interest, I still didn’t know I was sapphic bi when I was angry about the LGBT storylines in NBC’s 2013 Dracula series, which I recapped for a while. I was especially furious about Lucy’s bisexual “let me come out to Mina so she can throw me out into the street” arc, and I’m seeing some things about myself in the rearview mirror there. Also I will never forgive the show writer who was congratulating himself for having “real” storylines about how difficult it is to be LGBT, which included the horrible deaths of a gay male couple. Fuck off. We don’t need your “help.”
I absolutely did know when I was raging about The Magicians (when was this, 2019?). I believe I even said I was bi in the post about that, but talking about myself wasn’t the point there, and I don’t know how many people saw it. Those show writers, also, can fuck off into the sun, and I hope the sun tells them to fuck off as well.
I don’t know that I’ve ever been this blunt, this harsh about how angry I am. I’m usually very diplomatic. But this shit has consequences. I don’t cry often, but I cried in 2014 at the realization that I “couldn’t” be “normal” and straight, in the year before I came to love being normal and queer. Stories like Lucy’s are, subconsciously, why I would cry like that, why I would feel horrified at the idea of being myself. (Which I will write about later.) And that’s just the small way media effects me. We are seeing, in real time in the US now, the rippling consequences of insisting ever more hatefully that LGBTQIA people don’t get to be happy. As far as I can tell, media is crawling towards being better in the last few years. I wouldn’t know; I don’t invest much of myself in TV anymore.
I did not intend for this to be an angry post, but here we are. Maybe that’s why it feels different and even necessary to go through all of the “did I mention I’m queer” business again seven years later. I’m here and I’ve gone feral about it. Being angry right now feels like community. Wrath Month.
I am going to keep writing about some of the things I thought and went through during the year(s) I was figuring this out, because I think these experiences were weird and absurd—and recognizable. This is my blog now, welcome to hell. And happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: I Dream In Another Language (2017)
I watched this movie a few weeks ago, and it STUCK.
Tumblr media
(Don Evaristo and Don Isauro just before their first interview to record Zikril together.)
I Dream in Another Language is a Mexican magic realism movie about the death of a culture. It documents the efforts of a linguist trying to save the (fictional) language Zikril, spoken only by three old indigenous people. When one of them dies, the studies come to a halt, as the other two, Don Evaristo and Don Isauro, have not spoken to each other in over fifty years and categorically refuse to have anything to do with each other. As he looks further into this, the linguist discovers that the real reason for this feud is their past relationship and an awful lot of internalized homophobia.
Zkril is an artificial language, created specially for this movie out of respect for the people who still speak the endangered and disappearing languages today. The fact that it has seemingly magic powers, and that its speakers appear to be living on after their death, clearly puts the story into the magic realism genre.
This is NOT a happy movie. The internalized homophobia part is no joke, and the main theme of course is the loss of a language, and the culture that comes with it.
But it damn sure is leaving an emotional impact.
I strongly suggest that everyone who is even vaguely interested in this subject read up about languages and language conservation. The Wikipedia page of this movie is as a good place to start as any, since there are related articles linked in the references list. I also would like to thank @celluloidrainbow for bringing this film to my attention.

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Gay Fairy Tales retold by Peter Cashorali
New blog, and we're starting with a strong one!
Tumblr media
(The two fairy tale collections. The first is a physical copy I found in my local queer library, the second is on the Internet Archive.)
Fairy tales : traditional tales retold for gay men and Gay fairy & folk tales : more traditional stories retold for gay men are two collections published by US American writer and performer Peter Cashorali in 1995 and 1997 respectively. They contain educational fairy tales based on existing stories, with the explicit goal to pass on life experience within the gay (men) community. The stories are all based on existing fairy tales, aimed at adults, and deal with topics such as self-acceptance, body image issues, love, sexuality, aging, mortality and the AIDS crisis.
Cashorali’s work is interesting for two reasons: From a literature / fairy tale retelling perspective, the stories are truly unique. His tales are aimed at adults, and the gay lens is changing the plot just enough for it to feel completely different from the tales it’s based on. Also, the setting is this unique mix between fairy tale (talking animals, kings bestowing favours, magic beings and quests into the unknown) and modern city life (setting is a big city, jokes are made about medical expenses, characters have modern jobs like fitness trainer…).
It is also terribly valuable as a queer historical document: The stories are written with the unique goal of using fairy tales as a medium to passing down knowledge within a community that otherwise struggles with intergenerational exchange - being gay is not something you learn from your parents. At the time of writing, the first of the two books is twenty-nine years old. We are in the next generation of gay people, and most of us today definitely could use the wisdom in these tales, regardless of sexual orientation.
Both books are available to borrow from the Internet Archive (link in the titles above).
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

Happy Pride month to the……Non-men, Gays and Bi-sexuals. 🤦🏻‍♀️ But of course gay men are still men. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Outrage has been expressed online at Johns Hopkins University over its non-binary-inclusive definition of "lesbian" in its glossary of LGBTQ+ terms.
The Baltimore-based university, a major hub of medical research in the U.S., maintains an extensive glossary of definitions for terms relevant to the broad LGBTQ+ community, which is updated as the subject of gender and sexual identity changes.
On Monday, the glossary's new definition of "lesbian" came under attack as the university defined the term as "a non-man attracted to non-men." The update is meant to be inclusive of non-binary individuals who might still identify as lesbians.
Social media users accused Johns Hopkins of attempting to "erase" women. They also pointed to the glossary's listing for "gay man," which does not use similarly non-binary-inclusive language.
The flare-up comes amid a broader backlash to LGBTQ+ rights and the embrace of queer communities by society. Numerous state legislatures across the U.S. have begun passing laws that target transgender communities, taking particular aim at the ability to get gender-affirming care for trans children. There has also been a vocal, if not definitively widespread, lashing out against companies and brands that market to LGBTQ+ communities or hold Pride Month events.
Newsweek has reached out to Johns Hopkins via email for comment.
The definition prompted a backlash on social media. LGBTQ+ influencer and lesbian vlogger Arielle Scarcella tweeted: "Why is a lesbian a non-man but a gay person isn't a non-woman? Progressive misogyny."
Tumblr media
Twitter user Amy Curtis added: "What is this absolute nonsense... We are women."
Tumblr media
Oli London, who is a critic of "gender ideology," also waded in, as did British TV talk show presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer, who tweeted: "What the actual f....? So now we're not just reduced to being body parts or bleeders or a mere subset of women, we're now 'non-men'."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gay rights activist Fred Sargeant added: "Inarguably, modern times are now the stupidest time and universities are leading the way.."
Tumblr media
The definition provided by Johns Hopkins is notably distinct from those in similar LGBTQ+ glossaries maintained by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).
The HRC's first sentence in its definition of lesbian reads: "A woman who is emotionally, romantically or sexually attracted to other women." There is a second sentence adding that non-binary people may use the term to describe themselves.
The ADL's glossary defines lesbian as a "woman who is emotionally, physically and/or romantically attracted to some other women."

Hello friends and history lovers!
Another year of Carry On Through The Ages is over and done! I am so happy with success this year has had. Every year, I am blown away by how amazing this little community is. We are a small event, but we are so supportive and loving of each other.
It has been an absolute joy to watch the Discord server so active every single day, with people talking about their research and their projects. Watching as they gained support and encouragement from other history nerds. It was everything I could have hoped for when I first started this fest four years ago. So, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, everyone who participated, whether it was as a creator, or support, or researcher. You all helped to make COTTA 2023 a continued success.
Under the page break, you will find individual links to the fics and art that were created this year for COTTA. They are INCREDIBLE, and I highly encourage you all to read them.
Here is the link to the AO3 Collection: Carry On Through The Ages 2023!
Until next year, love you all!

Blood, Salt & Hummingbirds (T) - @hushed-chorus : AO3 // tumblr
Simon is lucky to survive when his ship is wrecked, even if it left him stranded on a desert island. But he's not the only one who escaped. The ship's mysterious cargo, the creature in the box, also made it to shore. What hope does Simon have when a vampire is lurking in the island's wooded interior? But the monster is not what it seems, and if they are to survive, they need to work together. And maybe they can do more than survive. Maybe they can thrive.
Fifty Names For A Cat (T) - @hushed-chorus : AO3 // tumblr
Simon and Baz are settling into their new life, getting Pitch Manor in working order and preparing to move to their cottage on the moor. Meanwhile, a certain cat is adjusting to his new life.

The Trails We Blaze (M) - @j-nipper-95 : AO3 // tumblr
Simon and Baz have been through a lot together. Growing up as criminals on London's streets; surviving the Great War; dealing with a lot of repressed feelings. But after their latest con goes wrong, they're left with nothing but an ancient map, a signet ring of unknown provenance or value, and promises of a city that doesn't even exist. Thrust into a world of adventure with danger at every turn, they're forced to decide how far they're willing to go for a myth, a fortune, and a chance at love.
The Snow Fox (E) - @aristocratic-otter : AO3 // tumblr
Simon "Snow" Salisbury is the most wanted patriot in the American Revolution. Wanted by the British army, who want to see him hanged. Wanted by the Tories, who'd shoot him on sight, given the chance. And wanted by Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch.

America, 1950s. Queer people are fired left and right, friends lose their jobs daily--and sometimes, their lives. Simon and Baz are caught in the middle of it all with a homophobic father and an unconventional (in more than one way) relationship, terrified out of their minds but unwilling to give up the fight. They'll fight for years if they have to. They'll fight for decades. But even the strongest wills can be broken with the hardest of blows.

Shoulder To Shoulder, Hand To Hand (M) - @wellbelesbian : AO3 // tumblr
Britain, 1984. Across the country, miners go on strike against pit closures. With the government, police and media set against them and no end in sight, they and their families begin to feel the strain. In London, Simon Snow recognises a familiar struggle, and decides to do something, while closeted Baz Pitch just wants to get out of the house and be among his community for a day. What starts as a few collection buckets at a pride march soon becomes an organisation, and a bond is forged between the lesbians and gay men of London and a village of miners and their families in South Wales. But Simon has a past he's trying to outrun, and Baz is trying to live a double life. Both boys have secrets and shame, but if they want to make it through together, they'll have to find their pride.

Safe Harbour (M) - @snowbaz-parentis : AO3 // tumblr
It all started on an island... It's 1956, and Baz Pitch is existentially lost in New York City. After graduating from Columbia, he's working for a wedding photographer with no taste as he avoids his inevitable fall attendance at Yale Law School, his father's alma mater. All Baz wants to do is be a fashion photographer, and when an opportunity to assist a famous photographer out on Fire Island falls in his lap, it just may be the key to helping unlock him from the closet of his family's expectations. It's 1956, and Simon Snow is wondering if there's more to life than this or if this is as good as it gets. He's been working in construction with his foster father, David Cadwallader, practically ever since he was taken in at age 13, but there's something beyond the water that's calling for him. When Davy offers Simon a chance to manage his family's rental properties for the summer in Cherry Grove on Fire Island, Simon jumps at the chance to finally take charge of something. What Baz and Simon didn't expect: the sense of freedom that comes from being able to absolutely surrender to the truest version of yourself, and the choices you have to make when it happens.
Costly Colours - A Precious Bane AU (M) - twigs_in_my_hair : AO3
In the aftermath of the Napoleonic wars Baz is being groomed by his aunt to be a physician. Tired of the farming life, Fiona would like to set up shop in town with her sister’s herbal remedies and her nephew settled down with his mentor’s lovely daughter and a fine degree hung on the wall. But first the family must toil and scrimp and save to raise the funds. And what if this is not the future Baz longs for? And what if the townsfolk won’t let go of their superstitions and petty grudges towards this family marked by tragedy? Does the handsome young weaver have all the answers?

People I wanna know better tag meme
Thanks for tagging me @my-rose-tinted-glasses and enabling my I-don't-wanna-deal-with-this Monday! 💕
Last song?
Perusing my Spotify recs between meetings this morning and this, Adiós by I Segreti, is an immediate new like (guess the payola worked):
youtube
Favorite color?
Anything blue-green. Teal, aquamarine, turquoise, cyan, robin's egg, etc etc. If I had to choose a specific single colour? #33b3cc. Most of my closet is that colour or the complimentary #cc3366.
Tumblr media
Currently watching?
Ongoing watch list (in order of when they air in the week because I'm too lazy to reorder them from my spreadsheet; top 5 in blue + * in case that doesn't render for everyone):

7 Days Before Valentine
Cherry Magic anime
Playboyy the series
For Him the series
Sahara Sensei to Tori Kun
Sukiyaken kedo dou yaroka?*

Just finished: VIP Only, Twins the series, Rebel Princess/Monarch Industries [binge], Taskmaster Champion of Champions 3; Ossan's Love original 2016 short (had no idea GagaOOLala had gotten their hands on that one too, I'm so happy to have finally seen the original!)
Last movie?
Monster (2023). It was incredible. Watched it twice in the same week.
Tumblr media
Sweet/Spicy/Savory?
Savoury all the way.
Relationship status?
I'm somewhere on the aromantic spectrum; happily single for over a decade. A little over a year ago I was on a deserted beach on the Atlantic ocean and found a wedding ring that perfectly fits my ring finger, so I consider myself married to the sea.
Current obsessions?
In addition to the obvious BL/GL/Queer media obsession I have going on, I sometimes throw on live dives of ocean exploration when they have them (fave is Schmidt Ocean Institute, they have a YouTube channel here). The scientists live stream and offer commentary, and it's such a cool way of seeing parts of the world never before seen while learning something about both our world and how they undergo the science to inform what we know about it. And the camera quality has gotten incredible. My favourite thing I've seen is baby octopuses born live on camera at ~9k feet below the surface! It's a little addicting even though there are hours of nothing between the cool moments.
Last thing you googled?
Whether there's a difference between mayak eggs [Korean] and ajitama eggs [Japanese] (slightly different recipes but very similar in essentials).
Selfie or another pic you took?
Have another photo of my parents' dog, the bud in my avatar, Princess Patch aka Patches:
Tumblr media
Tagging but as always no pressure: @sorry-bonebag, @solitarywandering, @hyeoni-comb, @he-is-lightning-in-a-bottle, @imminentinertia also @lurkingshan you mentioned me in yours so tagging so that you see this even though you've done it already! No good omens spoilers just talking about the queer rep in the show !!!! (I do talk about Maggie and Nina though)
Idk something about just Maggie being out right with her being in love with Nina really hit me as woman whose grown up in a very conservative place; where any queer rep in shows is either considered “brainwashing” or is just the butt of the joke. I’ve grown up about these false ideas of women hood where a vast majority of it is centered around men, and I didn’t even know that it was Possible for a girl to like another girl until Highschool.
Idk to see a woman so openly admit her feelings for another woman really just makes me want to cry (of happiness) because seeing it just put so simply in a show makes it more real I guess?? Like it’s something I can do. There’s plenty of wlw rep in media but just this being so simply a love story and theyre just so simply two women makes me so happy because when I was younger I never got that. I’m an adult now, but I know some fans of the show are younger than me and I’m just happy they get to see that being a woman and being in love with another woman is something that’s not only beautiful but perfectly valid.
Idk I’m kinda rambling basically I love this show so much even though I haven’t finished the new season yet, I can’t wait to see where it goes on Monday !!!
I say this now as a woman who is partially in love with a non man person, and I have never been happier before in my life.
