My One Determined Purpose
Once upon a time, my one determined purpose was to be the best daughter, mom, wife, Bible teacher/leader, employee, and friend. I would like to say that my best was accomplished, but I fell short in many ways. Now, I’m in the season of desiring to know my Lord like the Apostle Paul expressed: “For my determined purpose is that I may . . . progressively become more deeply and intimately…

“Keeping In Step with Christ” This 1-minute devotion explains why Christ told us to take His YOKE and 4 ways we can make sure we're doing it:
We always get out of step when we try to bear our own burdens, solve our own problems, and operate in our own power.
We need a yoke* that connects us with Christ so we can move in step with Him:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Yoked to Christ, we walk where He walks:
1. Dwelling on His Word:
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly” (Colossians 3:16a).
2. Rejecting popular worldly philosophies:
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
3. Following His purposes:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).
4. Walking in His power and strength:
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
Jesus says, "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be" (John 12:26).
Best of all, when we move in step with Christ, we find rest for our souls.
-----------------
*Yoke: "zygós – properly, a yoke; a wooden bar placed over the neck of a pair of animals so they can pull together; (figuratively) what unites (joins) two people to move (work) together as one."
For a deeper understanding of taking Christ's yoke:
•Which yoke
•Yoked but unburdened
•Learn from Him
•Jesus invites us to come take and learn
•Come
(All Bible verses in the NIV.)

[As Christians, we must be] focused on ridding ourselves of something that has become increasingly more common in today’s world: selfishness. What we do, not just in church, but outside of church cannot be done with a spirit of selfish ambition or conceit. Whether we are at work, at school, with friends, with family, in the marketplace, or serving in our place of leadership, our motives matter. The question we should be asking ourselves is not, “What is best for me?” Instead, we should be asking ourselves, “What is best for the Kingdom of God?” Our [overriding] ambition should be to find the best way to do the perfect will of God.
In Philippians 2:3-4 it says to do nothing in selfish-ambition or conceit. Nothing means nothing. When we’re doing everything for the good of the Kingdom of God instead of ourselves, how different will our lives look? 1 Corinthians 10:24 mirrors this principle, stating that nobody should seek their own good, but the good of others. How different would the church look if everyone operated with the good of others in mind? How different would the world look if no one operated from selfish ambition but for the good of others?
The next time we attempt to do anything for others, or for the Lord, let’s ask Him to reveal if our motivation is selfish. [Only He can rightly discern the true intentions of our hearts.]

As I’m writing this devotional, it’s the beginning of 2022. A new year means new goals, new plans for achieving them, and the absolute confidence that this is the start of a new me. It is tempting to believe that once we have achieved this one thing, we will finally be happy...

Remembrance
Maundy Thursday! What was it like to be with Jesus at the Last Supper and what relevance does it have for us today? Do you Remember? Think On This Today! God bless ya.
As they ate, Jesus took the bread and blessed it and broke it and gave it to his disciples. He said to them, “This is my body. Eat it.” Then taking the cup of wine, he gave thanks to the Father, he entered into covenant with them, saying, “This is my blood. Each of you must drink it in fulfillment of the covenant. For this is the blood that seals the new covenant. It will be poured out for many…

"DON'T LET THE PRESSURE STOP YOUR PRESS!"
“I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience His resurrection power, be a partner in His suffering, and go all the way with Him to death itself. If there was any way to get in on the resurrection from the dead, I wanted to do it.” (Philippians 3:10-11 MSG) While John was a prisoner on the Isle of Patmos, far from his loved ones and surrounded by the cries of…

Verse of the Day 8-8-22
Verse of the Day 8-8-22
I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11 In the Old Testament, to know God involved both a covenant relationship and, at its fullest, intimacy with God. The new covenant provides this for all God’s people. This language…

It's Sizzlin' in the South
I read that more than 30 million people remain under heat advisories across much of the southern and central U.S. Officials have linked at least 13 deaths to the heat wave. The near-record temperatures are being driven by a weather phenomenon known as a heat dome — when pockets of hot air become trapped in place for days or weeks by variations in the jet stream. Temperatures are expected to…
