L’actrice des Amours imaginaires (de Xavier Dolan), Monia Chokri, sort son premier film, “La femme de mon frère”. Présenté à Cannes cette année, dans la catégorie “un certain regard”, il obtient le prix coup de coeur du jury. Quand j’ai vu la bande-annonce, j’ai forcément voulu voir le film. Elle laissait présager un film frais, drôle, joyeux. Frais, drôle et joyeux (non, ce ne sont pas des noms de nains), le film l’est en partie, mais ce n’est jamais que la face visible de la lune. Sophia (Anne-Elisabeth Bossé, qui a comme Monia Chokri participé aux Amours imaginaires et à Laurence anyways) est une trentenaire intelligente et cultivée qui vient de finir une thèse de philo qui ne lui sert à rien, puisqu’elle n’a pas obtenu le poste universitaire qu’elle convoitait. Heureusement, elle a un frère avec qui elle a une sorte de relation fusionnelle, au point qu’on pourrait parfois les prendre pour un couple. C’est d’ailleurs ce que pense la gynécologue qui doit avorter Sophia. Sophia a donc 30 ans, est sans emploi, se trouve trop grosse, n’a plus de mec et vient de se faire avorter. La lose, autrement dit. Quand son frère s’éprend d’une femme et qu’elle doit renoncer quelque part à leur complicité, elle tombe dans une sorte de dépression hystérique. Le film est ainsi à l’image de sa protagoniste, tantôt drôle, tantôt hystérique, avec un montage un peu foutraque, mais aussi quelques chouettes scènes et chouettes dialogues. On a du mal à ressentir de l’empathie en fait et c’est sans doute là que le film nous perd à un moment donné, quand le nombrilisme et l’hystérie deviennent un poil indigestes. Cette auto fiction de Monia Choukri est donc pleine de promesses qui ne parviennent pas à être tenues sur la longueur du film. Dommage.
