Rose and Marigold Ch.4-Blessed Song
The year was getting close to the end, soon it would be 1772, marking the two years that Marigold had joined Oscar’s home. As promised, after several dance lessons and a word with princess Marie, Oscar informed Marigold she was going to take her to Versailles. Although there were still issues among the court ladies with Madame Du Barry, Oscar wanted to keep her promise and also introduce her to Marie. André was at first conflicted about bringing Marigold with them, but seeing the redhead so excited he couldn’t say no. The three had no trouble getting to Versailles and Marigold was surprised by the kingdom as they rode in on their horses. There was a sense of dread in her gut, seeing the slums and those that looked so thin, Marigold had a hard time looking away as if it was a horrendous monster. Oscar kept close to her to keep her from wandering off but overall stayed in front of Marigold and André, leading them to Versailles with her head up high in a regal manner. When they had arrived, Marigold slowly climbed down from her horse and followed Oscar while André took the horses to their stables, the steps of the two women echoed in the halls which made Marigold nervous.
“O-Oscar, are you sure I look alright? I mean, you always look great but-”
“Marigold, you look beautiful, try not to worry.” Oscar replied calmly and stopped walking to look at the redhead.
While Oscar was donned in her Royal Guard uniform of white, red, and gold, Marigold wore white pants, black shoes, a white shirt, and a beautiful green vest that complimented her stunning red hair. “That is easy for you to say Oscar, I’ve never been in front of royalty and it is clear I am common. I do not even have a family name to call myself by.”
“You introduce yourself as André’s brother all the time, why is this different?”
Marigold’s face went pink as she looked down with her hands clenched. “I don’t want to embarrass his name..”
Taking a moment to think, Oscar took hold of Marigold’s hand and led her to the ballroom that was currently empty, their steps rang loudly from the grand size of the room and quiet space. Marigold was shocked by all the gold chandeliers, paintings, and the view of the gardens from this one room, it was all she hoped for and somehow more. Oscar let go of her as they got to the center of the room, the commander spoke softly but with a determined voice. “You could never embarrass André, he is happy you consider him as a brother. No matter what anyone thinks, even if not related by blood, you will always be his sister to him. And I will be by your side when it comes to dance, I promise.”
Marigold smiled a little and feeling a bit more confident she spoke softly, ignoring how her voice slightly echoed in the large room. “Then I won’t be afraid.”
“Good, now stay here for a moment while I find her highness and my mother. I will be back shortly.”
As Oscar left, the redhead looked around happily and spun around to try and take in all the sights around her. She wanted to explore the garden and every room in Versailles, she wanted to dance and sing, this was a once in a lifetime chance. Her excitement stopped for a moment when she thought of the royal family and steeled her nerves to think about how to present herself, beginning to pace around she thought carefully on the lessons Oscar gave her. While she paced however she soon caught the glittering instruments just waiting to be used for the ballroom, Marigold could only imagine the kind of music they play here on a nightly basis, Oscar was terrible at describing melodies. Humming to herself, almost on a whim, Marigold began to transition to a song that resonated from within her.
“Aaahh~ Ohhaaahh~”
It was lyricless, purely notes from rising and falling pitches, but Marigold felt her heart swell happily from the way the notes echoed in the room to make her voice louder. Trying out different volumes, pitches, notes, she continued to sing to herself. Finally she added in words that were completely from her mind and heart, that would never be found on any parchment or in any known song. Marigold continued to sing and dance for herself when she turned and her voice choked seeing a surprised Oscar and a beautiful woman with big blue eyes waiting at the door to the ballroom. Instantly heat crawled up Marigold’s neck and she cleared her throat. “A-ah, hah, sorry about that. I guess I was a little careless-”
“Your voice is so beautiful!” The beautiful woman said, hurrying over to the redhead with excitement as she giggled like a child. “And your hair, and eyes! Oscar, you did not mention how beautiful she is!”
Oscar smiled a bit as she walked over to them, her eyes alight with pride at Marigold’s performance. “I did not think my words would do her justice.”
“U-uh, hello, I am Marigold Grandier.”
The woman giggled and graciously smiled at her. “I am Marie Antoniette!”
“T-the princess?!” Marigold stuttered and quickly bowed to her, her face redder than ever. “I’m sorry your highness, I should have given a proper greeting!”
“No, it’s alright, I loved your singing. I’ve never heard such a beautiful voice in my life!”
“You flatter me princess.” The redhead slowly looked up and tucked her hands behind her back to avoid letting Oscar or Marie see her shaky hands. “Now, I believe you both have business to attend to, so I’ll just go see what André is doing.”
“Oh Marigold, please walk with us!” Marie insisted, looking at Oscar with a giggle. “I’m sure a walk in the gardens would be perfect for all three of us.”
Oscar gave a smile to both the princess and her friend as she replied. “I did tell her you loved gardens, it would be rude to not accept.”
Marigold smiled at the invitation and reassurance, the three walked together to the gardens and the redhead could not have been more happy at the splendor around her. Oscar was politely staying quiet while the princess continued to ask questions to Marigold, who responded with nods and short answers and was delighted by how kind the princess was. However, as they continued walking there were more people starting to appear, lords and ladies of all kinds were in the gardens and enjoying chatter amongst themselves. Marigold started to feel self conscious when eyes started to look her way, while trying to convince herself they were all looking at Marie, Oscar pulled Marigold closer to herself and spoke with a neutral expression.
“Do not show your worry, otherwise rumors will start.”
“That’s funny coming from the commander who just pulled me closer.”
“I’m not concerned about what they say about me.”
Marigold nodded but decided to stay by Oscar’s side while the princess started to greet and talk to everyone, the redhead kept her gaze to the magical garden but occasionally would look at Oscar to reassure herself she was not alone. Minutes passed by slowly and Marigold was not sure how her friend could do this job constantly with nothing really happening, but there are the rare chances when something did go wrong. Soon the redhead was actually hoping something exciting would happen and decided to walk towards the glorious fountain that was basically its own lake. Marigold hummed to herself while walking around the rim and heard a gasp from the otherside of it, looking over she noticed a handkerchief in the fountain and two noble women looking distressed by it. Although it did not make much sense as to why they were upset by a cloth, Marigold stepped into the water and retrieved it with ease, handing it over to the ladies with a smile. “Here you are!”
Both looked scandalized by the redhead standing in the water and Marigold soon grew confused but set the handkerchief on the stone rim before stepping out and shaking the water off her boots. She started walking again when one of the noble men called out to her. “How dare you soil the fountain of Versailles like that!”
Hazel eyes looked around in confusion before looking at the noble with concern. “I’m sorry? It is just water, what is wrong with me trying to return something to its owner?”
The noble was much taller than her but bore a large stomach, he stormed over to her and said sharply. “No commoner should ever soil the water with disgusting boots, what are you doing here anyways?”
Now attention started to be grabbed from any nearby noble and Marigold became nervous, however she held her head up high and spat back. “I am here as a friend to Lady Oscar. And I am sorry but this is my first time to Versailles, I did not realize having a good heart was less than a shallow one.”
Gasps from several onlookers sounded and the noble man sputtered. “You insolent child!”
“Lord Moulin!” Both the lord and redhead looked over to see the princess and her guard walking to them, concern reflected in Oscar’s eyes as she silently gestured for Marigold to come over. The redhead hurried to the blonde’s side and the princess narrowed her eyes slightly at the man. “Please do not speak so crudely to my friend, she is new here and I plan to keep her around for a while.”
“I am sorry your highness,” The lord spoke with a bitter tone. “I was not aware she was a friend of yours.”
“You are forgiven, for you see, Marigold will be singing for all of us tonight.”
Ice shot through the redhead’s heart and her head felt light from the princess’s words, she nearly stumbled backwards if it was not for Oscar moving an arm around her back to keep her standing. “I-I beg your pardon?”
“Would that be alright, Marigold?” Marie asked with a smile, turning to her and exclaiming enthusiastically. “I know everyone would love your singing and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too!”
“U-uh well I-” Marigold looked at Oscar in hope for an answer but the commander kept a stone face, but thinking back to what she said earlier the redhead looked back at the princess with a soft smile. “Of course, your highness.”
“Wonderful! Please continue to enjoy the gardens!” She replied happily and started walking again, with Oscar helping Marigold to walk a couple feet behind the princess.
Fainting would have embarrassed her, but saved her from further embarrassment, Marigold has never sung for anyone other than Oscar and the eyes on her left her feeling dizzy. “O-Oscar, I can’t sing in front of everyone, I’ll surely faint!”
Oscar whispered to Marigold, hoping to soothe her. “When you sing, just close your eyes, I know you’ll do well.”
The long day passed slowly and Marigold had already had enough of Versailles, wanting to go home and get away from the awkward stares and put-downs from a few of the ladies and lords that she had run into. In all cases, Oscar was there to calm her down, but she was still unnerved by the environment. When night began to fall and the ballroom was filled with music and people, Marigold had barricaded herself in a guest room, hiding in the bed sheets while Oscar was changing and trying to coax her out.
“Marigold, I know you are scared, but there is no reason to be. I will be with you for the night.”
“Oscar, I cannot sing to those people, even if you are with me I will feel helpless alone.”
There was nothing said for a few minutes before the covers were ripped off suddenly and Marigold was shocked by the formal uniform her friend wore. It practically glittered in white and silver, the sword still attached to her hip and Oscar’s hair was brushed to make it look like golden fabric. “O-oscar-”
“Marigold, please, do not let me dance alone. Tonight, I want you to be the only person I dance with.”
Entranced, the redhead sat up and got to her feet, looking at Oscar with wonder as the blonde gently cupped Marigold’s cheeks in her hands again. Hazel eyes stared at the blue pools and it was a mutual look of longing and pleading, and Marigold was not strong enough to deny what she wanted. “I understand, thank you Oscar.”
A moment later, Marigold was given a white rose that Oscar had taken moments before coming to the room, placing it carefully in the rivers of red hair that Marigold possessed. While the smaller woman was not in a beautiful gown or uniform, to Oscar she was just the way she should be, a natural beauty. They both made their way to the ballroom, standing side by side as they walked through the parting crowd. Marigold could hear the envious mutters of Oscar’s beauty and the shame that she was a woman, but mostly they commented on how her clothes meant she was going to dance. While the redhead didn’t understand it she showed no care, for after they bowed to Marie the princess let out a delighted giggle.
“Oscar! Are you actually going to dance tonight?”
“Yes, but only after Marigold has sung her song.”
Marigold once again hid her hands behind her back to try and hide their trembling, but the princess paid no attention and giddily replied. “Oh wonderful! Please Marigold sing us a wonderful song!”
Eyes and ears were open to Marigold, the band was ready with their instruments and all the redhead could do was gulp. She took slow steps to the band members and encouraged them to play whatever they wanted and she would sing. Taking a deep breath she turned to the crowds of her onlookers and waited as the band began to play, after a couple seconds she began to sing to the music in perfect harmony, despite never hearing this song before. The people around her watched in shock, while there was yet to be lyrics she sang loud and proud to the music, and upon seeing the pride Oscar showed Marigold began to sing words. May it only be a secret between Marigold and Oscar, but the song was of their meeting and how a warrior saved a woman lost to the world, how everyday became a blessing the the presence of the warrior of the sun.
All Marigold was tempted to do beforehand was close her eyes and pretend no one was there, but seeing the sapphire eyes from across the way she couldn’t help but keep her eyes open. When the song came to a close there were several people who began to clap, to which Marigold had respectfully bowed and walked towards the cheerful princess. “Oh Marigold, that was spectacular!”
“Thank you, your highness. Although I will admit I was pretty nervous.”
“Not by what I saw, thank you for the entertainment, please enjoy the ball to your heart’s content.”
Marigold smiled and the second she turned, Oscar was waiting, bent on one knee in front of the redhead with a smile. “Are you ready?”
“Always.” Marigold’s hand rested on Oscar’s as the blonde stood up, they brought each other close and Oscar took the lead just like the times they had practiced.
Neither of them could tear their gazes from each other, dancing perfectly to the music and Marigold found herself stuck in this dream, she never wanted to break away from Oscar no matter what danger or interruption there might be. Oscar’s eyes continued to watch the hazel ones as she held the smaller woman closer, there was barely any room between them as the dance continued on. Words were drowned by music and the gold in the room could not compare to Oscar in Marigold’s mind, she no longer cared if she ever came to Versailles again, she just wanted Oscar with her. They continued to dance the entire night, only pausing a few times when they needed a small break, but overall they never stopped to even talk. It was close to midnight when the party was starting to become filled with more alcohol and gossip rather than polite talk and friendly smiles, Marigold insisted that Oscar should help the princess to her room and that she would meet the commander in hers. Although Oscar seemed a little concerned, she eventually relented and took Marie to her room, while Marigold was walking to Oscar’s room there was a loud cough that caught her attention and she noticed it was Lord Moulin.
The upstairs hall was empty besides her and the Lord, which only made anxiety grow in Marigold as she asked. “Lord Moulin, can I help you?”
“I believe you can, I realize now I was perhaps too harsh, after all it’s clear you are a consort to Lady Oscar.”
Marigold was stunned by the man’s words, especially since she could tell he had been drinking.“Consort? Oh no, sir that’s-”
“It’s clear by the way you danced with her.” He chuckled, giving a dark grin in Marigold’s direction that made her shudder. “So, how much do you want for one night?”
“Want what?”
“You cannot be this innocent, then again that is better for me~”
As he took a step closer Marigold backed up, she hastily replied. “Wait, I’m not interested in such activities! Excuse me!”
She turned to run but he caught her arm and pulled her to him, she immediately struggled but was unsure if she was allowed to hurt him and claim self defense. “Let go of me!”
“How about this, you and I spend the night together and I won’t tell others about your whorish habits with Lady Oscar.”
“You speak of nonsense!” She hissed back and elbowed him hard to get him to let go, turning around again she ran before he could grab her.
He bellowed loudly and ran after her, but to Marigold’s fortune she ran into Oscar, who looked surprised at the redhead’s panicked state and held her close. The lord noticed Oscar and clicked his tongue in annoyance before stumbling back towards the stairs. Oscar waited until he was gone to question Marigold. “Marigold? What happened?”
“H-he kept insisting I sleep with him to keep your reputation!”
“What?” The blonde’s eyes narrowed in disgust and anger, but before she could storm off after the man, Marigold latched around her left arm and spoke quickly.
“Oscar no! It’s ok he did not do anything else..please let’s just return to the guest room?”
The sapphire eyes still burned with anger but it was less-so than before, she took Marigold’s hand and hurried to the bedroom before slamming the door closed behind them. The redhead was shocked when Oscar pulled her to the bed and pulled her to the commander’s chest, without any exchange of words soft lips descended onto Marigold’s and the redhead’s logic vanished. Both of their lips melded together perfectly and a gentle moan escaped Marigold as Oscar was more firm to the kiss. It’s true they are still young, being that of only 17 years, but both of them knew this feeling was something they could not stop. When they broke the kiss, Marigold watched Oscar with worry and asked softly. “Oscar..do you really..”
“Love you? I believe so..” Oscar replied, but even she seemed unsure. “I just know I cannot stand the idea of you being with someone else.”
“I assure you Oscar, that won’t happen. And I understand if we need to do this slowly and carefully.”
Oscar nodded in agreement and started to remove her uniform for the night, Marigold followed in suit to remove her clothes. They both soon were cuddled up under the sheets and returned to kissing, not bothering to explore each other's bodies or even be nude together, the only touch they engaged in was holding each other and kissing. The moonlight that shined through the window graced Oscar’s hair with a gold shine and reflected off the hazel eyes Marigold had, both looking beautiful to the other. It was not long before their lips were swollen from their kisses and both were ready to sleep. Marigold fell faster than Oscar did but she did not mind and stroked the red hair of the woman she cared about. It worried the commander that this secret may cause her or Marigold to get hurt, but she knew that they would work things out together, no matter what trails came their way.

Whit-ty Headcanons: Whitley Is Punished by Tyrian Callows?
Tumblr media
In light of the upcoming Schnee Dinner episode, I find myself concocting more and more headcanons of how things could play out for this event. Particularly when it comes to Jacques and Whitley. It truly makes me wonder just how far Jacques is willing to go just to get his own way.
Not to mention how much it will take for Whitley remove the blindfold from his eyes and realize that his father isn’t the man he pegs him to be. With this thought in mind, I’ve been pondering ways in which the episode might play out for these two men in particular and then a very chilling thought came to mind.
What if…Whitley is caught snooping around Jacques’ office by Tyrian Callows when he’s having another meeting with Watts and as punishment for disobeying him, Jacques just lets Tyrian beat up Whitley as a means of teaching him a firm lesson in discipline?
Before my fellow Whits come at me with pitchforks for having the chaps to even suggest such a heinous thing to happen to our boy, as always, hear this squiggly Whit out. I know the notion of Jacques having Tyrian---a homicidal mass murder from Anima with sadistic tendencies--- punish Whitley---a more or less innocent child; Jacques’ child and current heir--- just for snooping around will be an all-time low even for the likes of Jacques Schnee. But y’know what? Weirdly enough, I can actually see this being a possibility given the kind of malicious man Jacques is shaping up to be.
As RWBY has highlighted many times, Jacques cares very little for anyone but himself and would more than willingly sacrifice his entire family’s happiness if it brought him a crumb of financial fortune. Not to mention that I think Whitley’s super sleuth luck has to run out at some point. Presumably sooner than I think.
We’ve seen Whitley successfully snoop on his father in the past as evidenced by his first appearance back in V4. But as mentioned, that luck will run out. I have a feeling that CH8 could potentially begin with Jacques having another meeting in person with Watts at Schnee Manor; only this time Tyrian joins him. Since the Military are still keeping Tyrian’s identity under wraps from the general public, Tyrian is free to walk into Schnee Manor and not stir any suspicions at all with the staff; particularly the ones incredibly loyal to Jacques.
I’m picturing Tyrian just standing menacingly in the background; waiting patiently for Watts to finish going over the next stage of their plan with Jacques. It is Tyrian who ends up outing Whitley after finding him…I dunno listening in from a hidden space in Jacques office or…listening in at the door when he’s not supposed to be near it?
To Whitley’s horror, Tyrian drags him into the office and kind of stands over Whitley in a sort of preying position. Terrified, Whitley looks to his father to help him. However, instead of telling Watts off or advising him to call off Tyrian from harming his son, Jacques does the unthinkable.
All the Schnee Man says is “Don’t hurt him too much and keep away from his face. I need him to look his best for the dinner tonight.”
So basically, Jacques allows Tyrian to hurt Whitley as a form of punishment. So Whitley ends up being forced to attend the Schnee Dinner anyways in spite of nursing some pretty bad injuries from his encounter with Tyrian inclusive of a few broken bones.
Remember my theory from yesterday about Whit knowing the truth about his father’s plans for Ironwood and his sisters with him behaving funny all night?
Well here’s an alternative version of that concept. Let’s say…Whitley reunites with his sisters for the first time at their father’s celebratory dinner. However Weiss is the one to notice something rather off about her brother’s behaviour. According to Weiss, Whitley was quieter than usual and seemed rather unwell at the party and she even makes a comment to Whit about his rather sickly demeanour to which he denies.
Let’s say…it’s the first time Weiss has ever seen her brother behave so strangely---at least since their time together back in V4 and even then he didn’t act this oddly reserved.
Let’s say…because Whitley was in so much pain from his “earlier punishment”, he even refused to eat anything at the party---not even to enjoy a plate of his favourite crepes dessert. This action especially throws Weiss off as she’d been low-key observing Whit since she and the others got to the party.
Long story short, Weiss ends up pulling Whitley aside so the two siblings could “catch up”. During this time, Weiss grills Whitley for information on their father---asking if he knew anything. Of course, Whitley tries to act all aloof as he did back in V4 but his bravado fails as he kept suspiciously hugging his chest.
Noticing this, Weiss turns her interrogation on questioning Whitley about himself---how he’s been doing since he’s all alone with Jacques.
This question seems to somewhat trigger Whitley as he responds in anger; lambasting Weiss for daring to ask him such a thing since, from Whitley’s perspective, she’s never once cared about him in the sixteen years he’s been alive (I’d like to think that Whit is closer to Ruby’s age than Oscar’s).
Weiss flinches at this accusation. She then switches to a more sympathetic tone of voice. Whitley goes to storm off but Weiss immediately reaches out and grabs his arm, stopping him. Gently, Weiss reveals her suspicions to Whitley about her father being up to something that could result in no-good for everyone; especially Mama Schnee and even Whit who were still with Jacques.
In the end, Weiss expresses her worry for the fate of their family. Her worry for their mother. Her worry for Whitley. Basically it ends in Weiss practically begging Whitley for his help. She knows she hasn’t always been the ‘best big sister’ to him or even the warmest person in general. However Weiss has changed a lot since Whitley last saw her; growing even more into a kind-hearted person.
As I said, in this version of my headcanon, just as how Snow White begged the Huntsmen sent to kill her by the Wicked Queen to spare her life---Weiss asks Whitley to help her with unveiling whatever wicked scheme she feared their father was planning. And just like the Huntsman from the fairy-tale, Whitley does help Weiss. But not before collapsing before her, finally succumbing to her injuries.
Previously, I’ve heard one or two RWBY theorists---inclusive of RWBY Youtuber: EruptionFang theorize that Whitley has secretly been abused by Jacques for years without his sisters’ knowledge. An intriguing theory and while I’m unsure if we’ll see it rationalized into the canon, I’m going to add my own spin on that longstanding Whit theory.
Basically Whitley collapses before Weiss complaining of pain in his chest. Immediately…Weiss reacts to help her brother but as Weiss inspects Whitley, to her dismay, she is stunned to discover several bruises across his chest and abdomen including an open slash across his stomach that was being held together by several sloppily tied bandages which were now soaked in a bit of blood.
Let’s say…Weiss asks Klein to bring Jaune but advises him to be discreet as a means of not attracting the attention of their father. So Klein brings Jaune to Weiss and with her permission, Jaune uses his semblance to heal Whitley.
All the while, Weiss stayed by Whitley’s side, cradling his unconscious body. Even Klein is horrified to see the state of the “young master”. Weiss then questioned Klein if he knew about what happened to Whitley only for Klein to sadly inform Weiss that since her departure, Jacques hasn’t allowed him to set foot near Whitley; designating him to other duties while Jacques himself saw to Whit’s development.
Let’s say…while healing Whitley, Jaune discovers other injuries on his body---ones that weren’t recent and seemed to have been healing for months. Thus indicating to Weiss the truth of what he brother had been going through since she left.
Eventually in a nutshell, Whitley regains consciousness and from here, he proceeds to help Weiss by firstly warning her of what Jacques was truly up to. But…not before one small exchange of dialogue.
Whitley: What… happened to me?
Weiss: You passed out but don’t worry; Jaune is going to take good care of you.
Whitley: …Who…is Jaune?
Weiss: He’s a friend of mine so you’re in great hands.
Whitley: Another…huntsman? A huntsman saved my life? Well…that’s annoying!
Jaune: Wow. He really is your brother.
This doesn’t have to happen but…I think this could’ve been a cute way to show that Whit is more like his sister than she realized. Not to mention, it’s a cheeky call back to both V4 and V5. The irony of Whitley saying huntsmen were “barbaric” and “beneath people like him and his father”; only for his snooty ass to be saved by one. Such poetic satire.
Anyways, if something like this were to somehow happen in the canon for the new episode, I want a few things to come out of it:
Similar to how Weiss finally addressed her team as her family in front of her father, I think it’d be pretty sweet for Weiss to acknowledge Jaune as her friend in front of another family member of hers like Whitley.
As much as I like White Knight as a ship, I don’t necessarily need them to end up together romantically. For now, this squiggle meister is more interested in Weiss and Jaune have a solid friendship built on mutual trust and knowing each other better than they ever did in the past.
After all, we all know how big of a rocky start these two had in the beginning. This is why I’m excited for the Dinner Party setting. To me, RWBY V7CH8 is a chance for the CRWBY to make a parallel to RWBY V2CH7: Dance, Dance Infiltration.
If I recall correctly, Jaune never got the opportunity to tell Weiss what he truly thought about her. Personally I’d like for this small plot point to be revisited. As a matter of fact, since we got May Marigold, I’m kind of banking on Henry Marigold making a comeback too. I know some folks think that May might be a sex-changed Henry and while I myself did ponder that a bit too, I’m more leaning towards the more simpler idea that Henry and May are just related. Probably siblings or cousins.
Speaking of, I have a feeling like CH8 will also harken back to the V4 episode where Henry made his debut. My hunch is that Henry and his family will also be invited to Jacques’ Dinner again. Perhaps the Marigolds are a Council Family with one of Henry and May’s close relatives holding a seat on the Atlesian Council. I like the idea of May coming from a family who help govern the Kingdom of Atlas yet she instead chooses to use her influence to work with the representative of Mantle for the betterment of Mantle. Now that could be a cool detail for May.
Anyways, as I was saying, Henry returns in CH8 and he and Weiss meet again for the first time since V4. However, unlike like last time, Henry isn’t as gentlemanly with Weiss. As a matter of fact, he’s a complete asshat to her.
Let’s say, Henry harasses Weiss at the dinner which then leads into two things:
Firstly, Jaune, to Weiss’ surprise, coming to her defence against Henry and secondly, May showing up to put a lid on her baby brother.
May then makes Henry apologize to Weiss before dragging him off by the ear back to their family table for daring to disrespect a woman (especially when his sister was nearby). Currently there’s a wee bit of tension between our heroes and the Happy Huntresses given how things went down at Robyn’s Watch Party. Not to mention that of all the Huntresses, May has somewhat been the most seemingly aggressive one.
So it’d be kind of sweet if we got a scene where has a gentler side; more understanding side to her that isn’t as hardened. Who knows? Perhaps that’s why she became a huntress in the first place and joined up with Robyn? Maybe May comes from a family where as a woman, she felt disrespected because she often treated as if she wasn’t tough enough to go toe-to-toe with the men of her family. That was part of her motive for becaming a huntress---to prove to all who doubted her strength that they clearly misjudged her…or something like that. Mostly speculating here.
Anyways, after a scene like this, Jaune stays in Weiss’ company and the two actually have a pretty decent chat in which Jaune confesses how he really thinks of Weiss. It’s not meant to be interpreted as romantic but more as a step in the right direction of Jaune and Weiss becoming legit good friends.
Who knows? Maybe we might even get a little nod back to their untold movie lime with Oscar with the two sharing a laugh over that night’s crazy shenanigans with a possible promise to do it again; even if it’s just the two of them this time. As friends, of course.
I dunno. I just really, really would like to see Jaune and Weiss alone together, talking as friends since we’ve honestly never gotten that with the two of them. It could be a wholesome thing but this is just my opinion.
A theory like this can also show Weiss showing concern for Whitley. In the past, the impression I got from Weiss’ interactions with her brother was that Whit seemed more like an annoyance to Weiss…or rather he was someone she clearly didn’t trust most likely due to his similarities to their father in terms of appearance. So basically Weiss believed that Whitley was going to turn out more like Jacques. It wouldn’t surprise me if Weiss and Whit used to be close when they were toddlers until Jacques started grooming Whit to be more like him.
I think CH8 could be a good chance to touch a bit more on Weiss’ relationship with her brother, as well as Mama Schnee.
Again, as much as I like the Schnee-sisters’ dynamic---I’ve frankly seen enough of their interactions to gage their bond. Basically, I get it. Weiss and Winter are close.
The same can be said for Weiss and Jacques. Yes, I get that too! Weiss suffered a very overwrought relationship with her father due to his ways for most of her life.
This has been Weiss’ song and dance since her first character trailer. Basically what I’m trying to say here is that I hope that CH8 highlights Weiss focusing not on her sister and father but on her relationship with her mother and brother for a nice change. Even more interesting if all of that is tied in with the narrative of the episode fleshing out her budding friendship with Jaune. Maybe?
I understand some folks are probably banking on this dinner being all about our young heroes being little fishes out of water attending their first cordial party at Schnee Manor. However for this squiggle meister, I’m more looking forward to the conversations, man.
I think this season has been building up to a few much needed chats between certain characters or certain groups of characters and I’d like to think that a more seemingly “relaxed” atmosphere could be provide the perfect setting to jumpstart some of those longstanding conversations. For CH8, I’m expecting the following interactions to be focal point of the episode:
Ironwood talking to Jacques Weiss talking to Willow (Mama Schnee) Weiss talking to Whitley Weiss talking to Jaune  (possibly)
Blake and Yang talking to Robyn (I have a feeling she’s going to be at the dinner too so there’s that follow up from CH7) Ren talking to Nora (because for Pete’s sake,  that NEEDS to happen at this point, for REAL)
And last but certainly not least, Oscar talking to Ruby (because that also needs to happen at this point too. I haven’t forgotten V7CH3).
I know that CH8 is only 15:37 mins long. Nevertheless, V2CH7 (the OG dance party episode) was 15:05 mins long and that episode managed to pull off a lot in a surprisingly short space of time.
So you could say I have full faith that we can get a lot of really great character interactions for this upcoming new episode.
But y’know this is only me. Hears to hopefully getting my wish with that. At least for the Weiss and Whitley part of it.
