his projects:  npc/wc - message me! he loves to take on petty criminals who were dealt a bad hand and help them remarket themselves, get jobs (usually within the jade dragon crime syndicate but not always) and take on a fatherly role for them, just as his uncle did for him. these were troubled kids who he intervened with, helped set on a different path. either for organized crime, or a more wholesome route, its utp.

backstory:

tw: death/loss/grief, drug use/dealing, illegal activity, gang violence.

life had a different plan for tony, early on, and he found himself learning quick how to fend for himself. there was little 'family' to count on when he came to be - his mother was young, and passed in childbirth due to a heart defect. it's the one thing he says she ever gave him, since he had the same murmur.

it didn't prove to be much of a problem, in reality, for tony growing up; but everything else did. he was mainly homeschooled, since he was between houses at any given moment. his grandparents were travelers, retired and often never home, leaving him to go with his uncle, who worked in construction and was never in one place for long, either. tony grew up on the road, between cousins and extended relatives, friends of friends, always finding his way back to lima every time.

after his 12th birthday, it was his uncle who decided enough was enough, and he officially took guardianship of tony, and they moved from his home city and his grandparents to cusco, where tony finally experienced a true home life, and had his first real bedroom. he grew up with his cousins, who were older and moved out slowly, one by one, eager to move on with their lives.

tragedy struck when he was 17, working on online studies, trying to catch up still from the years missed while bouncing around. something happened, and his aunt who had raised him from age 12, was murdered. the secrets that had been hidden finally came out, and tony came to realize that the construction company that his uncle worked for, that he traveled with, was a front for a crime organization. a smuggling deal, and something went wrong, and it was his uncle's fault. they had to leave, and tony was the last in the home, lucky to be alive, apparently - so they left, landing in florida.

they worked honest jobs, the two of them. tony never got the chance to graduate, but turns out, it didn't matter. he was scrawny, and everyone doubted him. quick on his feet, clever and witty with a hint of sarcasm, and absolutely fearless, it was proven there was little that tony wouldn't do to succeed in life.

his early 20s took place in a place of dangerous times, running with the wrong crowds between miami and florida, once again a nomad with little purpose, he and his uncle just riding the wave as it would take them. his later 20s tried to make it right; he went clean, off the drugs and off the crime, quit the fast life, and bought a small homestead in kentucky. he suffered, he went broke, he went mad, he gave up.

that was when he fell in new york city, with a new fire for life, and a desperate to succeed. his uncle remarried, moved on, and found peace in the kentucky countryside. they raise horses now, and tony is happy for them. but he wanted more. he needed more. life had to amount to more that what he had. and tony was ruthless in his ambition, and he set off with intention to weave into the world of crime, to snake && claw && climb wherever he needed to be.

love hadn't been part of the equation, but it became the best part. he fell for his boss almost the first day on the job of guarding her, and an affair was something he spent a long time hoping to achieve in succeeding in. eventually, she left her husband for him, and they were wed. he would move mountains for her - and in return, she granted his every wish, his every dream, and he now shares with her, a genuine throne. it was bought with blood and tears and effort and sex, and he owns it, every bit.

now that he has achieved his dreams, tony has slowed down in a way, trying to avoid heart surgery as his murmur worsens (in secret), and he watches his daughter enter her 20s. some may mistake him for having gone soft, but do not be fooled. he is the same man of ruthless ambition and passion and he would kill for his family without hesitation.

this article does a good job of summing it up and a GREATTTT job of critiquing it. also has a great analysis of the “black israel” or liberia, which gets too often ignored in contemporary discussions on separatist/nationalist black politics. theres a great comparison between israel and liberia as settler colonial projects and the ethnic/racial nationalism behind both. sobering imo. although i don’t think sanchez is very fair to orlando patterson’s work on slavery because he was not only talking about transatlantic chattel slavery but sanchez makes it seem like he was in order to debunk AP’s bastardization of patterson’s theory. but yeah

God’s Own Country (2017) - Farm boy meets migrant falls in love

Happy Together (1997) - Starring Leslie Cheung (a favourite OF Tae's) about the dysfunctional love between two men

Hegwig and the Angry Inch (2001) - A musical about trans person with an inch of a penis

My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) - Interracial love set against the backdrop of 1980s England

Milk (2008) - Chronicles the assassination of the first openly gay politician in the US

We don’t have a natural first round pick next year, we gave it up for Syd 🫠🫠🫠 (still a horrible trade imo- we gave up so much for a player who isn’t that good even when healthy).
