Hey friends! I have some downtime today so I thought it might be fun to share my "Jessica" playlist with all of you.
My brain has been curating themed playlists for just about everything since I was in elementary school--back when a "mixtape" was a literal cassette tape that featured songs scratchily copied-and-pasted from other sources (other tapes, CDs, the radio) and presented to your friends with handwritten notes in the inside sleeve. Some of my old homemade mixtapes and CDs are still among the most cherished albums in my collection. One that especially stands out in my mind was a party favor from my friend Ilana's bat mitzvah--a mix of Broadway show tunes that was responsible for introducing me to Rent. Ain't no party like a millennial theatre kid party.
I also have certain sets of songs that I associate very heavily with certain times of the year and can only listen to at that time of year under very specific circumstances. You know how it feels bizarre to play Christmas music when it isn't Christmas time? That's me with MOST music.
The dawn of Spotify and other streaming services that allow for hours of meticulous playlist curation and customization has only intensified the autistic urge to find the PERFECT music for EVERY situation and overthink my listening experience. But it's also been an amazing tool for me as an actress, because just like music can instantly take me back to a specific time and place in my own life, it can also be a gateway into a character's head, helping me find ways for me to identify more deeply with that character's journey.
The hardest part of curating the Jessica playlist was trying to determine where "Ashley" ended and "Jessica, the character" began, because I've put SO much of myself into creating this role and I've spent so much time in her head that it's sometimes easy to forget that I'm not representing myself up there. I'm telling a story about a person who is not me, and even though she's influenced by me, she is first and foremost based on a real (awesome) human being with a personality and agency of her own. Hopefully she likes this playlist too--or at least appreciates the inclusion of Selena Gomez, who was apparently her first choice to play Jessica 😂
Who knows, maybe if we make an official Ohio Mixtape we can call up Selena Gomez to sing on it.

I was tagged by @milk-wood to create a 10 song playlist!
Here is my chaotic collection of songs I've put together as a spotify playlist for said challenge, its a collection of songs I am currently enjoying or have enjoyed extensively over the last year or so. It starts with a chilled out vibe, then flows through some synths right into the heavier aspects of my taste, a pretty varied collection if I must say myself!
I tag @sowhatifiliveinkyushu, @novimnet, @withnailrules if you wish to give it a go, and anyone else who wants to partake after viewing this post!
I don't know many people on this site anymore, so mutuals, please feel free to tag me in any future challenges you come across!

I'm making a joyful folkpunk playlist, does anyone have any suggestions?
I've got Bill Collectors' Theme Song, Your Heart Is A Muscle The Size Of Your Fist (the Ramshackle Glory version), Goodbye Lulu pt. 2, On To The Next One, and You Are Loved so far.
I've been trying to find more angry-happy music in general (music that is angry about the world but very fiercely loves community). I'm kinda iffy on some of the songs but ya know fuck it we ball.

some day i’ll update that massive playlist post again but every time i think about i’m reminded the characters i choose to make playlists for are sporadic at best so a giant post about half-life playlists conveniently excluding barney would be weird
