The Spiderband are such accurate representation for the minority groups they're a part of.Miles is an afrolatino boy who's soft and dosen't conform to gender roles in a way that gives him dignity and makes him heroic so he gets masculinized into a black male stereotype and insisted that's what he's actually like,Gwen's a trans girl who's dad is a cop that assaulted her after he found out she was doing activism and developed bad coping mechanisms and self-destructive tendencies because of it so she gets victim blamed for 'not being strong enough to stand up to him' and her interactions with other kids taken out of context to make her look like a manipulative bigot,Hobie is a super darkskin and strong featured black kid who's got tons of trauma including adultification and is canonically the baby of his bio siblings and flirts with only two people he's already friends with so he gets called 'obviously a grown man' and his crushes dismissed as sibling-like and sexual assumptions thrown at him for being femme and alt,Pavitr is a goofy but super masculine in both looks and personality south asian boy so he gets woobified and twinkified,Margo is a black girl who's as relatable and kind as can be so she gets made out to be a desperate annoying femcel who dosen't know how to be smart or cool,Peni is a japanese girl that's part of their friend group so she gets cut out of it since they've already filled their diversity quouta with just boys of color + white girl and Miles G has about 6 minutes of screentime tops and they all showed him as just a darker version of Miles but he has braids so everybody jumped to call him a thug and chauvinist.It's exactly like in real life

I got a comment on Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, which made me think about that fic. and then I went back to writing the original thing I was working on and had a moment like

misunderstood villain.

prepare for an onslaught of both the most dehumanizing and hateful takes, and flood of thirst comments. you are chronically misunderstood. whether or not you're actually evil is debatable. you may be acting out for revenge, to defend someone you love, or even just to protect yourself. you're a pretty jaded person. you don't trust or even really like most people. maybe you did at one point. but that part of you is gone, and you don't go a single day without grieving it. you think a lot about what your life could have been. you're stuck in the past. you're angry and maybe you don't even want to be, but this is the only way you can see to survive. you're open, but less in a trusting way and more like a wound. you don't like to let people see you, but the hurt spills out of you before you can stop it. you're impulsive, even as you try hard to plan and prepare. maybe someday your side of the story will finally be heard. until then, you can convince yourself that being hated is safer anyway.

This is a very mean thing to say but idc,Hobie being Miles' bi awakening is a stupid ass trope in the context of trans boy Miles because logically as an afab person he would've thought of liking guys before girls and we don't see him interacting with other guys his age enough to debunk him already knowing he's mlm so if anything it should GWEN being Miles' trans girl awakening but Spiderman fans don't care about women as anything but props or antagonists.And i am aware that it's often irl transmascs having the first take so they can't relate to Gwen's transfem experiences but sorry to tell you this,by virtue of being nonblack,you're not the same kind of queer as trans boy Miles either lol
