I'm so sorry that people are once again missing the point of your spiderverse posts. You do not deserve to be called mean things for pointing out the inherent ableism in the art direction of those films. Thanks for your posts!
Aww thank you for your kind words!!!! I will say, I usually do not put these posts out there, unless I am willing and able to deal with people like this. I understand feeling adverse and riled up by reading "fuck your favourite movie that has brought you a lot of joy" as part of the first sentence, but also I think the rest of my post was fairly nuanced given it's opening line. Fun fact: I will also admit... I woke up, saturday morning and had angry eyebrows and thought "I wanna start shit" and I was fully ready to just post "fuck spiderverse because it has ableist art direction" - but as always re-reading the post I figured adding nuance and context may be more helpful to the conversation... so honestly, I think the post is mostly a calm statement with an attention-seeking Opening line. Thank you again for your kind words and support! Maybe i should do these posts on LinkedIn instead of tumblr, in the hopes that anyone at Sony may actually see this... Rest assured - i am more amazed and amused by people threatening me over an opinion on art and what makes a good consumer oriented product.

The new Spiderverse movie is coming out Friday (and I’ve seen that some theaters will be having afternoon showings on Thursday) so please keep in mind that this movie is completely inaccessible to people with photosensitivity issues.
Please hold Sony accountable for this inaccessibility. I’m not saying you’re not allowed to enjoy it but be vocal about how it would be better if it were more accessible. Do not call it perfection or say that everyone should strive to match its animation style, as the stylistic choices are why the movie is dangerous, even if any explicit flashing lights were taken out, the speed and high-contrast colors of the movie would still be an issue.
And please tag properly. Anything gifs or clips that could be dangerous, please tag with “flashing lights” and please tag any posts about the movie in general as “Spiderverse” because while you’re allowed to like it, a lot of us have very strong negative feelings about the first movie and by extension this movie due to a combination of its inaccessibility and the amount of uncritical praise the first movie got, and so would like to be able to avoid the topic.

Hello, hope you're having a good day/night
I was wondering if I could request the spiderverse characters (Miguel, Hobbie, Noir) meeting and reacting to male spider reader who abnormal tall (like 7 foot kinda abnormal) and morally grey for instance will kill if it means that it could be beneficial rather than having the villain go to jail???
(Also who would end up falling for reader?)
FIRST ATSV REQ LETS GO
I made Miguel so submissive and breedable real lmfaooo. Also ignore how many HCs are in Noir’s, I’ve actually never written for him before lol. Oh and since it’s not extremely clear, Hobie’s is platonic
**I do not own any characters or part of the franchise from marvel or sony**
Summary: go to req
Tw: cussing, death, discussion of murder, stuff like that
~Miguel~
Color Miguel intimidated bcc oh my god
You’re taller than him. With his same morals. He’s fucking reeling
When you stand next to him he’ll cross his arms and puff out his chest
You’ll notice and be like “What’re you doing…?” And he’ll act all ignorant like “hm? What? No I’m not doing anything…”
Once he gets over your sheer largeness he’ll become more comfortable and relaxed around you
He falls HARD and QUICK
Even doing missions with you becomes difficult for him, the first time he got choked up or distracted he immediately stopped doing any missions with you
It was like whiplash for you because you were doing all these high risk missions with Miguel regularly then he suddenly drops you with no explanation
You corner him one day and demand to know why he’s acting so weird
You literally corner him…
Standing over him and all angry
He’s feeling 5 different conflicting emotions all at once
He tried to web away from you and without thinking about it you grab him by his neck and shove him back against the wall
He whimpered. WHIMPERED.
You immediately know what’s up and laugh at him some then tell him you feel the same
And that’s how Miguel O’Hara got a shredded gigantic boyfriend
~Noir~
When he first glanced at you he couldn’t help but stare a bit.
I mean. DAMN. What’re they feeding you?
He couldn’t help but say something
“They make them big in your universe?”
The joke surprised you bcc a Spider-Man dressed in all black and a sick hat and coat just teased you.
You laugh some and respond.
“And they make ‘em cute in yours?”
He chokes some.
You smirk at him and introduce yourself
He collects himself quickly and introduces himself too
When you find out he’s from an older timeline
You can’t help but flirt a bit more
“Oh so I should take you to dinner first?” You say with a grin.
You came on so heavy he stayed silent for a bit, just blinking at you
He avoids you for a bit, not because he doesn’t like you or is weirded out. He’s just trying to learn how to respond to your flirting in a way that isn’t staring owlishly
You two are on a mission together and long story short the villain didn’t need to go back to his universe to restore the timeline and was beyond the standard villain evil
while he was fleeing from you two he flung a child into the air and let them drop, expecting them to distract the both of you
“Noir!” You yelled
“On it.” He immediately responded and caught the kid, taking them to safety and comforting them
When you caught the villain you couldn’t hold yourself back.
Needless to say Noir came back to find you covered in blood and dangerously quiet.
It was a sight to see and not one he’ll forget.
“If you’re gunna give me the whole ‘killing makes you as bad as them’ lecture you can save it. I don’t regret it now and I wont regret it ever.” You said firmly, still not meeting his gaze
He just walked over to you and rested a hand on your shoulder. “Good. You shouldn’t.” Was all he said. The return to the spider society was silent
There was a silent agreement between the two of you not to discuss that mission with anyone else. That it was something too personal, somehow.
A few weeks later he asks you out
“Do you want to go out for egg creams sometime?” He asked
“What the hell is an egg cream.”
It’s like the olive theory but with egg creams
He loves your size and secretly loves it when you rest your arm on his head/shoulder.
~Hobie~
He laughs when he sees you
“You been drinking your milk, mate?” He chuckled
You rolled your eyes at him.
You talk with him when you next see hi ma few days later
He just sort of appears around you and you don’t question it once so ever
Someone asks why you two are always seen together in a rude tone and Hobie just throws an arm around your shoulder and says “see this lad right here, he’s my best friend. We actually sleep in the same bed—“
You scoff at him and push his arm off
You know he’s being sarcastic and just trying to get the person to fuck off but calling you his best friend made something in your heart flutter
Protectiveness? Loyalty? Endearment? Who the hell knew.
All you know is from then on you started seeking him out more
You sort of became a older brother figure to him
You started checking in on him semi regularly
But one time he stopped responding and you hadn’t seen him for over a week
Obviously, you got worried
You decided to go visit his universe to see if something happened
When you got there your eyes were immediately violently assaulted with flashing images and constantly changing scenery
It threw you off mid-swing and you crashed to the ground
You had to shut your eyes so you wouldn’t get nauseous
Then you felt a hand on your shoulder and squint up to see Hobie who looked confused and concerned
He helps you back to his place and basically tosses you down on his beat up couch then asks why you’re there
You just grumble something about him not responding and not seeing anyone for over a week
He flops down next to you and lays his legs on your lap
“Aw you big bloke, you were worried ‘bout me.” He says smirking
You shove his legs off and stand up
“Don’t get used to it” you say with a grin

(Part 2)
Venom x OC Period Sex Smut
Summary: Shannon unexpectedly starts her period, Venom has a creative solution.
Warnings: Period sex, blood play, oral sex, rough sex, rough penetration
———
Shannon, Eddie, and Venom had formed a much more intimate bond since their first night together. The initial lust was strong, and Shannon’s chemistry with Venom was substantial. There were moments when Eddie felt like he’d been sidelined by his own Symbiote.
He tried to remember that he fronted most of the time, Venom had little time and space to be free. Perhaps he owed Venom this.
That evening, Eddie invited Shannon over to cook. He was not an excellent chef, but he was eager to try. Anne had done most of the cooking during their relationship, and he was ready to prove himself as a partner.
Eddie was pan frying sausage while Venom mixed pancake batter. Shannon rang the doorbell, and Venom dropped the bowl on the counter, and extended himself to answer the door.
“Hello Darling.” Venom greeted her.
Shannon moved smoothly past Venom, “Hey, sorry I have to use the restroom. Give me a sec.”
Venom was caught off guard. Eddie had to remind him to close and lock the door. Venom’s wide white eyes watched Shannon as she headed to the bathroom. Eddie continued cooking, shaking the pan to flip the sausages.
“There is something wrong, can’t you feel it?” Venom asked Eddie, his head floating next to him.
Eddie dismissed him, “What’re you talking about? She just had to use the bathroom.”
“Listen to me Eddie, I smell blood.” Venom ground out.
That got Eddie’s attention. He killed the heat on the pan, and turned his attention towards Shannon. He rushed down the hall and knocked on the door.
“Hey, are you okay in there?” Eddie asked. Venom pressed his head against the door to listen.
Shannon sighed, “Yes, I’m fine.”
Eddie didn’t want to drop this issue, he pressed on, “Venom said he smelled blood.”
Shannon was irritated, “Could I get a little privacy please?”
Eddie held his tongue, he didn’t want to piss her off, but he needed to know what was going on.
“Just tell me, are you hurt? Should I be worried?” Eddie’s voice was laced with concern.
Suddenly Shannon pulled open the door, her underwear and pants were around her ankles. On the crotch of the pants there was a puddle of red. She had fresh red blood dripping down her legs. Her brows were drawn together in frustration.
Shannon’s voice was frantic, “I started my fucking period 3 days early, I don’t have any spare clothes, and I’m bleeding everywhere!”
Eddie couldn’t hold back his laugh. He hunched forward and gripped his stomach. The laughter burst from him.
“Oh shit,” Eddie exclaimed, “I thought it was something serious.”
Shannon’s mouth formed a dangerous looking frown.
“This is serious for me Eddie.” She said between clenched teeth, “It’s humiliating. I’m a grown woman.”
Eddie realized his reaction was less than ideal, “Sorry, sorry. Let me run down to the store and grab you some stuff alright? I did it for Annie all the time. You can borrow some of my clothes.”
Before Shannon could respond, Venom consumed him. Enveloping his form, and growing around Eddie.
“What a waste. Why not let me solve your problem?” Venom purred.
His tongue lashed out, flicking through the air. Saliva dripped from it and landed on the vinyl floor beneath them.
Shannon’s brows hit the ceiling. She had not expected this kind of reaction. She stumbled back, her hand grabbing the sink for support.
“What–what do you mean, Venom?” Her voice, a moment ago so full of anger, had faded down to a meek whimper.
Venom’s enormous black arms wrapped around her, forcing her down on top of the toilet. Her bare ass shivered against the cold porcelain. Her pants and underwear were still around her ankles.
“Sit back, relaaaaaaax…” Venom’s voice was equal parts hypnotic and eerie.
His hands were so large they easily closed around her biceps. His huge body was crammed between the wall and the toilet. He got onto his knees, his head hovered right above her bleeding cunt.
Her flow had just started, the blood was fresh, and quickly pooling inside of her. It leaked out of her hole just a bit.
Venom smiled, his teeth bared, enormous and terrifying. The tip of his tongue traced his lips like he was about to devour his favorite meal. His wide white eyes looked up at Shannon’s face for a moment. There was lust there, so much lust it frightened her.
All at once his tongue dove into her. The blood inside of her made a noticeable SQUELCH. It didn’t stop Venom from digging the fat muscle futher inside. He was moaning, growling. He withdrew for just a moment, her blood coated his tongue. He swallowed it, sighing contentedly.
“What a treat!” Venom said, “I want more.”
Before Shannon could respond, his tongue was back inside of her. Exploring her folds, and lapping up all of the blood. She couldn’t hold back her own moans. Her voice was foreign to her, full of meekness and hesitation.
It did feel good. Extremely good. But all the same it was strange, this was not what she’d been expecting. She knew that Venom had eaten people before, but she didn’t know about his affinity for blood drinking. It was entirely new to her, she’d never had a guy fetishize something like that. She wondered for a moment how Eddie felt about this, if he was enjoying himself, or just allowing Venom to indulge himself. Either way, it felt too good for her to risk stopping it. Venom was fronting, so she had to trust him.
Venom’s grip on her tightened, he was truly ravenous. The blood continued to flow from her hole, and Venom drank it like it was the sweetest thing he’d ever tasted. Shannon writhed and moaned as his tongue played with her cunt. The tip traced along her folds, leaving no part untouched.
Shannon was shivering, her body unable to resist but struggling to find comfort or purchase on the seat.
“The taste of fresh blood,” Venom’s voice was deep, “There is nothing like it. Eddie does not want to scare you, but you’re not scared, are you?”
Shannon cried out, “No, no, please, keep going!”
“Yes, yes, this is all mine. There is no shame, I want all of it.”
Venom lifted her up, holding her hips and ass in his enormous hands. He buried his face in her cunt. She grasped his head for support, nearly hitting the wall. She could barely register the sensation of his tongue lapping at her pussy. He was moving so fast, she was afraid his teeth would puncture her. She wrapped her arms around his head, trying to keep herself upright.
Venom’s pace was torturous. The sounds he made were primal and deep. Eddie was in there somewhere, but now, there was only Venom.
Venom pulled his tongue out of her. She let out a held breath, tears coming to her eyes. She was shivering, her heart racing beneath her breast.
“I want more. I’ll have to speed things along.”
Venom’s hands ran up her ass, along her back, until he held her upright entirely with his own hands. He slid her down onto the floor carefully, making sure she didn’t hit the door or the counter. When Shannon was about to get her bearings, Venom’s tentacles slithered out. His tentacles wrapped around his midsection, lifting her from the ground once again. Just enough that she could be flipped over onto her knees. Her hands came up to support herself, but one of Venom’s hands pushed her down.
Her ass was prone in the air, her cheek pressed against the fuzzy rug on the floor. Her arms were tucked under her form, no space to move, she was trapped. Before fear could overcome her, Venom used one of his thick long tentacles to prepare her cunt for him. It pressed in and out of her, stretching further, going deeper. The friction on the inside of her walls was maddening, she ground against him. The tentacle suddenly swelled, pushing the limits of what her cunt could take.
“Venom, please don’t break me!” She begged.
Venom purred, the appendage stretching her did not let up, but he did slow the pace down. He gently entered, and pulled out, dragging out the sensation. His form fell over her like a shadow. His mouth was by her ear.
“I will not break you, but I will make you bleed. Again and again for me.” His voice was a promise.
The tentacle slid out of her entrance, and was quickly replaced with the tip of his cock. The head was so much larger from the back, she knew that in this position she would be the most vulnerable. She tried to take a deep breath, and steady herself. But when his dark head pressed into her heat, she whimpered.
It hurt. It hurt so much. His girth was inhuman. There was nothing that could soften this. She knew by now that enduring was the best she could do until her walls adjusted. Her cunt would learn to take him eventually.
Venom let out a dark laugh. The sound rumbled in his chest, and vibrated against her back. She wondered what had caused him to laugh, but in a moment she felt it. When his tip hit her cervix, he had caused another wave of fresh blood to flow. She was bleeding on in, because of him. It lubricated her tight hole, and provided some relief.
Venom teased, “You’re coating my cock with your sweet red juices. Such a filthy Human.”
His hips drove into her, forcing her tits to drag across the small bathroom rug. Her pelvis strained from the effort of Venom slamming into her. Venom was primal now. Growing and drooling and using all of his strength to hurt her, just enough to make her bleed once again for him.
She wondered if Venom could keep this up all night.

Sony's PlayStation 5 Presents Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (the third game in the series)
Tumblr media
I beat the main story and have enjoyed my time with the game overall! I want to talk about spoilers and things that I liked and disliked in the story, so here's a post with some scattered thoughts.
(Hello! I haven't forgotten that this blog exists! Like I said, no update schedule, I will read more of the Lee/Ditko comics whenever I make time for it. I've actually been sitting on a mostly-complete version of this post since I beat the game in October, thinking that I'd finish the rest of the side quests so I could throw in thoughts on those. But... eh, I'll do that whenever the inevitable DLC rolls around. I just wanna get these thoughts posted.)
Spider-Cop No More
First off: they downplayed the cop shit!!! This was the first thing that really struck me about the game, and I'm stunned that they actually listened to criticism on this. I thought we'd just be stuck with it forever.
It'll never be completely gone, of course. Spider-Man is always going to leave criminals webbed up for the police to take to prison, hoping that they'll do their time and come out the other side as Productive Members of Society. That's just a thing I begrudgingly accept as part of the genre that will probably never go away. But Spider-Man is no longer repairing police surveillance networks. You're no longer beating the shit out of random drug dealers. Gangs of escaped convicts still wearing their orange jumpsuits are no longer terrorizing the streets of New York.
Instead, Peter and Miles are played more as firefighters. Sometimes very literally! They work with firefighters, they rescue people from collapsing buildings, they rush injured people to the hospital. In general there's a huge increase in the number of random onlookers present during the big action setpieces, and the Spider-Men frequently have to save them from harm. One of the major side quest lines is even literally about a cult of arsonists, and you'll routinely find burning fuel tanker trucks you have to extinguish with your webs. It's great! Love this for them.
I also generally liked the side missions in this. There's a lot of good stuff with the Spider-Men being neighborhood heroes willing to help out anyone in need, no matter the problem. Some of them can get corny, sure, but that street level stuff has always been the real heart of Spider-Man to me.
Gameplay
The gameplay's as fun as ever. That probably goes without saying. I will not be spending a thousand words explaining that swinging is fun.
In particular, I really liked the changes to the Focus mechanic. I never loved the way Miles' game made you choose between healing and doing your special attacks, but here your four specials have their own cooldowns, and the Focus meter is spent on either healing or finishers. It still offers that risk/reward element, but those vicious cycles where you can't do any real damage because you keep needing to heal aren't nearly as bad as they were before.
Personally I didn't turn off the swing assist or turn on fall damage, because the streamlined swinging never bothered me in these games, but I'm glad the options are there for people who want them.
Kraven
I liked Kraven in this! I liked the way they leaned into his Hunters being this weird death cult, and him wanting to go down in a blaze of glory against a worthy foe, to the point that he's actually disappointed anytime a foe can't kill him. It riffs on things people liked in Kraven's Last Hunt without being the exact same story. I like that Kraven's gang is renting out this manor or whatever and just being a complete terror to the wait staff. I liked the way Kraven hunting Peter's rogues' gallery clashed with Peter's belief in giving his villains second chances. I liked that they were willing to have Kraven kill off a couple of the minor villains from the first game to sell how dangerous he is. (I know some people hated this, but like, come on. We already fought the Sinister Six. They don't need to do that again.) I like the way Kraven pushed Peter to the absolute brink, turning him more and more aggressive with the Black Suit. Good stuff all around, even if the Hunter enemy types did wear out their welcome a little bit by the end.
The Black Suit arc
I think I liked the way Insomniac handled Peter's Black Suit arc overall, but there's a tradeoff here.
They REALLY lean into the body horror tentacle stuff, with Black Suit Peter basically just being a skinny Venom by the end. The sequence where you play as Mary Jane while the symbiote puppets an unconscious Peter's body around and goes on a rampage against the Hunters was REALLY great at selling how scary Peter is becoming, and it made me completely change my tune on the inclusion of the MJ stealth missions in the sequel. Having to beat an out-of-control Peter as Miles immediately after Peter beats Kraven was also really good. This is all cool!
BUT, the thing is... with the symbiote powers being so freaky from the start, it really pushes my suspension of disbelief when Peter and co. take so long to become wary of it. I guess when you've been bitten by a radioactive spider and given superpowers, and when you live in the same universe as the Avengers and the X-Men, your perception of what's "normal" is going to be pretty warped. But they buy the whole "organic exosuit created to treat Harry's illness" story WAY too easily lmao. How do the self-aware slime tentacles help with his illness, exactly?
And I'm not sure how I feel about giving Peter Anti-Venom powers in the last act. It feels like it's primarily a concession so that they can give players that branch of their skill tree back, but honestly, the designer in me thinks it would be really cool (if risky) to just permanently lock players out of Peter's most powerful skills past a certain point. Yeah, it'd definitely piss people off, but it drives home the idea that Peter's given up greater power because it's the right thing to do. It'd put you in his shoes! Instead he just gets the symbiote powers back, but it's fine because the Venom voice in his head is gone and also the slime tendrils that explode out of his body are white now, which means they're good.
Tumblr media
I have to say it. I'm sorry. The glistening white goo... they turned Peter into the Amazing Cum-Man. I changed back to the Classic Suit after rolling the credits and forgot I still had the Anti-Venom skills equipped, so I just saw regular old Spider-Man exploding his white goo everywhere. Terrible.
Assuming Peter is just stepping into more of a supporting role to Miles and not fully retiring after the events of this game, I really hope the Anti-Venom stuff is gone. I get that he needed it to counter Venom, but that's not what I want for Peter Parker.
Miles
Miles is good in this, and I really like his arc where he struggles with whether or not he should avenge his dad by killing Martin Li. I like how all that plays out. Unfortunately, they don't quite stick the landing when it comes to making him and Peter feel like equals in terms of narrative focus. His arc is definitely the B-plot to Peter's for the middle chunk of the story, which I guess was kind of inevitable since they decided to do the Black Suit arc. But Miles does at least get a lot of moments to shine, and by the end he's very much taking the lead as the main Spider-Man.
Becoming the main Spider-Man also gets Miles a new, wholly original suit that ended up being super controversial, and honestly... I kinda like it? Or at least I like what it's going for, even if the actual design could still use some work. It's something totally unique for Miles, and I like spandex/streetwear combo suits like what the Spider-Verse movies have popularized. But showing his hair is really pushing the limits of his secret identity. He hangs around Brooklyn Visions WAY too much for his classmates to not recognize his voice and haircut. And I understand why people would be wary about it becoming his "canon" look moving forward. But I think it's got potential.
On the subject of Miles, though, I will say that while I liked Miles' side missions, it feels like he's often saddled with the game's broad, kinda touristy, kinda token attempts at Showcasing The Diversity Of New York, in a way that Peter isn't.
I like that Miles has a deaf graffiti artist girlfriend that he and Ganke sign with, and I like that there's a series of side missions that explore some local jazz history, and I like that there's a mission where Miles helps a gay classmate ask his crush to prom. I like all these things! I like Spider-Man being involved with his community, and that said community includes such a wide variety of people! I like that this game slows down to savor these types of moments instead of just being all action all the time! But when I step back, I notice some patterns.
Hailey doesn't have a big role in the main plot, especially when compared to MJ, but Miles gets a side mission where you briefly play as her with muffled audio to teach you what being deaf is like. There are no major queer characters in the story - unless you count Felicia showing up for exactly one mission to mention she has an unseen, unnamed girlfriend in Paris now - but you get a side mission where Miles helps out a gay couple at his school, who then never come up again. To put it very uncharitably, they can feel like Very Special Episode missions. It's like the devs going: we're going to give Miles a Gay Mission, and an Impaired Hearing Mission, and a Cultural History Mission, so that we can say we touched on these things, but we're gonna make them all optional and keep them far away from the full-blown Superhero Stuff like fighting costumed villains. Those flavors cannot mix. Meanwhile, Peter gets to have a whole elaborate subplot about teaming up with Wraith to track down fucking Cletus Kasady. There's an imbalance here, and I think it's part of the reason why Peter still feels like the "main" Spider-Man for so much of the story.
I think this was all written with admirable intentions, but as others have pointed out, you can kinda tell that this game was mainly written by some white guys based in California. These attempts at depicting various marginalized groups can feel kind of detached in the same way that Insomniac's map of New York doesn't quite line up with the real thing. But I dunno. I'm not really the one to dig deep into some of this stuff as a white woman from Florida. I would be curious to read others' takes on this.
Maybe I'm just being overly cynical about the writers' well-meaning but corny and kinda out of touch liberal politics because of the podcasts.
The podcasters
I wish Jameson was in this more! They psyched us out by giving him a full character model for, like, two scenes. I like him being MJ's boss, but I wish we saw inside the Daily Bugle offices to get more Jameson.
At least his podcasts are better than the ones in the Miles game, though. Him completely trusting in Roxxon was just too much for me. Here he condemns Oscorp for the symbiote shit, and he also gets some moments where he takes the ongoing crises seriously and isn't just ranting about the Spider-Men. He isn't just a conspiracy theorist crackpot here. Shit like his "fuck Spider-Man, we have a justice system for a reason" speech makes him feel more like a human being with a point of view, rather than just a caricature. Definitely an improvement.
Unfortunately, I still find The Danikast grating. I'm sorry, Ashly Burch. It's not your fault. The quirky heckin' wholesome millennial podcaster lady who catches you up on current events and then reminds you to drink 64 ounces of water a day in the same breath is just too much for me. At least she doesn't have any lines as bad as her throwing in a "damn" and then going (direct quote here) "That's right - no censoring! That's how REAL I'm being right now!" like in Miles' game. Instead they give her this, like, almost psychic insight into the main plot to try and make her the angel on Peter's shoulder. The second Peter gets the symbiote she's like "Wow, y'all. Have you seen Spider-Man's new black suit? Something's different about him. He's been giving me such bad vibes lately. #NotMySpiderMan" Also she's supposed to be this, like, underdog independent podcaster who started her show on a whim and has become the voice of the people... but she's got billboards plastered all over the fucking city. Which makes her feel like an industry plant lmao
Again, there's a detachment with the writing. This is, like, some middle aged white liberal game dev guys' idea of what a modern leftist teenager would think is a Cool Activism Podcast. Unfortunately, because Insomniac thinks Danika's a hero, Mary Jane's triumphant ending is that she quits her job at the Bugle to become a podcaster, too, delivering a thinly veiled monologue about the pandemic to kick off her new podcast literally titled "The New Normal." She's going to save the world with podcasting, because that's the highest form of activism, I guess.
Venom
So! Venom! Venom was... okay.
Surprising no one, Harry Osborn is Venom. Harry's okay both as himself and as Venom, but I'm not sure his arc is a smooth one. He starts out as Peter's comically perfect best friend who returns to reminisce about the good ol' days and hand him his dream job on a silver platter, and then later he becomes a little ball of rage over the fact that Peter gets his symbiote and can't/won't give it back. I'm not sure that pivot is handled the most convincingly. You kind of have to write it off as the symbiote messing with their heads, I guess.
When he actually becomes Venom, I'm... mixed on the execution. On the one hand, the cool factor is absolutely there. He's a very cool big monster, and Tony Todd is great in the role. But he also wants to take over the world and make everyone a symbiote, and aside from any lingering resentment towards Peter, that's really all there is to him. It makes for a good video game to have a bunch of symbiote enemies and creepy symbiote nests and symbiote tentacles climbing up the sides of buildings in the last act... but is that really what I want out of Venom? Probably not. But he sure does look cool as a big monster guy to fight, and I was happy he was briefly playable.
Suits
Part of me feels like there's something lacking about the suit selection here, but almost every suit I liked in the previous games is back, and also I'm the type of person to give Peter the Classic Suit the second I unlock it and use that for most of the game. So does it really matter for me?
Peter's selection feels dominated by the various live action movie suits, but I get that those are going to be some of the suits people want to wear the most. I wish he had the Peter B. Parker skin to go with Miles' Spider-Verse alts, though. No idea why it's missing. Really I think I mainly just want more of the Spider-Verse designs.
Also I've complained about how most of the original suits designed for these games make Peter and Miles look like they were bitten by radioactive Alienware products, but I can just, you know. Wear other suits.

Everyone's already made this joke, but it's extremely funny that the Avengers didn't help with the symbiote invasion. Took one look at that and decided it wasn't their problem
On the subject of other superheroes, I do wish these games would acknowledge the Fantastic Four more. Peter's close relationship with that team feels woefully underutilized in his various adaptations
I like the trope of a boss fight that's a heightened version of a personal conflict between two people who are close, where throughout the fight the boss is airing out their grievances while the hero tries to get through to them emotionally. That especially works for Spider-Man! But WOW has Insomniac played that card a lot of times by the end of Spider-Man 2 lol
They're teasing the addition of Silk, I guess? I'm gonna be honest, I don't know shit about Silk, but I guess it was inevitable that they'd give us some form of Spider-Woman at some point. Gotta work all those costumes in somehow, and they're not brave enough to let one of the boys cosplay as Spider-Gwen.
They WERE, however, brave enough to let Harry say he loves Peter. I liked that little moment. They presumably meant it platonically, but clearly ol' Yaoi Lowenthal knows what's up
Tumblr media
Post-leak addendum
So, obviously, by the time I got around to finishing this post the big Insomniac leak happened. I wish the game industry wasn't so secretive that it took a massive, dangerous data breach just to get our hands on some very basic info that would be public knowledge if Insomniac was a film studio, but here we are.
We now know that Insomniac spent somewhere around $315 million making Spider-Man 2 - triple what the first Spider-Man game cost to make. A quote about this from a leaked presentation has been stuck in my head ever since I first saw it on Twitter. “Is 3x the investment in [Spider-Man 2] evident to anyone who plays the game?”
To be honest, I'm not sure it is.
I liked Spider-Man 2, but I'd probably say that overall I liked it about as much as the first game. It's certainly a somewhat bigger game, with marginally more realistic looking graphics thanks to the power of the PS5. But I think I could do without ray tracing and more realistic hair rendering and whatnot if it meant that these games didn't take like five years and hundreds of millions of dollars to make. I could not give less of a shit if the swinging animations were recycled between games. I'd be fine with them being shorter, too.
I like these games, but as we look at that leaked project lineup and realize that Insomniac is turning into The Marvel Game Studio, I think about how many smaller, more original games that those resources could go towards if they scaled back the Marvel stuff just a bit. How many Ape Escapes or Patapons or Gravity Rushes could get made for the budget of just one of these massive AAA tentpole games of Sony's, which are apparently barely even breaking even? How many could be made for the budget of the "smaller, cheaper" Miles Morales game, which somehow cost $156 million to make despite using an updated version of the same Manhattan map from the first game? Hell, how many smaller games could have been made with the $39 million that went into remastering the first Spider-Man game for PS5 a mere two years after launch? How many people will lose their jobs if any one of Insomniac's upcoming Marvel games underperforms - which, in this case, could mean selling "only" 5 million copies? And would hardcore PlayStation fans even accept those smaller games at this point, now that they've been trained to only appreciate mega-budget Prestige Games with cutting edge graphics and treat everything else with disdain? How much worse will this get as the graphical arms race continues?
I think I just miss Japan Studio. Fuck Sony. Uhh but anyway the Spider-Man game this post was supposed to be about was good, some writing complaints aside. 8/10

did you like puss in boots: the last wish?
Yes, more than I expected to enjoy a...sequel of a spinoff of a series of sequels?
Visually, it was more interesting than anything I can remember Dreamworks doing in the past while. Even if it seemed to be borrowing some visual flourish from Sony Animation (Spider-Verse, Mitchells Vs. the Machines), it did so effectively. The painterly strokes where once were awkward attempts at a sort of photo-realism, and the snappy frame rate and camera focal length changes in action scenes set it apart from that mainstay, over-polished Pixar wannabe-ism that haunts a lot of 3d animated feature films.
Both villains were pretty fantastic as character designs go. They complemented each other well too - one to carry the humorous tone throughout and one to provide an actually palpable menace. You often don’t get the sense of danger from villains in these types of movies because they’re tasked with being funny and threatening at once.
Most importantly, I think the story was well told.

This is probably a bad question, but who is Kraven the Hunter, why is he getting a movie, and what did they get wrong about him?
Kraven the Hunter is a Spider-Man villain: his whole schtick is that he is a Russian big game hunter who is so good that he started hunting animals with his bare hands because it was the only way to make it hard enough to be interesting, who decides that the "most dangerous game" is Spider-Man and proceeds to hunt him like an animal, because somehow that's legal in J. Jonah Jameson's New York.
Tumblr media
You might notice that, along with hunting and killing animals with his bare hands, Kraven's schtick is wearing their skins from head-to-mid-calf (capris pants and ballet shoes, what can you do?). Doesn't exactly mesh well with soulful emo with daddy issues who doesn't believe in hurting animals. (The daddy issues thing is particularly funny, because Kraven in the comics is relentlessly awful to his many children.)
As for why he's getting a movie, it's the same reason that Morbius got a movie - Sony has the rights to Spider-Man's rogues gallery, but under the deal they worked out with Marvel, they can't do their own Spider-Man solo films at the moment. So instead of having the villains be villains, Sony is turning them into anti-heroes, with decidedly mixed results.

Hi! Why do you think BG is still going? I see a lot of people saying that it is an alternative to Louis having to have a beard but in my opinion it's much worse to use a child who has no say in the matter and will probably grow up damaged than a beard who has signed up for the job and is getting paid well. A child is not needed to maintain a closet. So with that in mind, why do you think Louis is stuck with Freddie?
Okay you are like the fourth or fifth anon who has insisted that a child is not a way to maintain a closet and while I... guess I get where you are coming from I feel like everyone asking this seems to be forgetting that this isn't just... a decision Louis made in 2022.
Here lemme just include a portion of this ask and then I'll ramble behind a cut
Tumblr media
That anon is 100% right btw. This decision was made in 2015 (tbh I think it was probably made in late 2014 but that's a whole separate talk) by music execs who wanted something flash in the pan for their boyband that was about to lose one of their most well known members (Zayn - and no this isn't blaming Zayn for BG I am lying the guilt very FIRMLY on the feet of Sony/Syco/Modest/Simon for this one). What happened after has just been... a shit show.
I don't think Louis knew there was going to be an actual fucking baby involved until October when Belfast happened and when the baby was born I don't think anyone knew how long this was supposed to last. They took almost two weeks to file the birth certificate. I think they were trying to figure out something else to go forward with it, and they were trying to muddle all of what was coming out so fandom didn't know top from bottom.
They ultimately decided to file the birth certificate and go the paternity route and everything was then meant to lead up to a paternity test denial. And then Jay got diagnosed with cancer in March 2016 and everything went off the rails.
I think decisions were made back in 2016 because of that so Louis could have the privacy he wanted for his mother and BG was put on the back burner of his mind. I think Louis did two years of hard pap work for BG before he decided "okay I'll move back to London and let this baby thing die off, I'll focus on making music I want to make and I'll figure it all out later." He did Xfactor like Simon wanted in 2018, he avoided LA like a plague, and he tried to get Walls made.
I think he might have felt he found a good balance ignoring everything by 2020 and not mentioning it and then Briana had to go and get fucking sued because she scammed some dude for fake boobs. I'm not expecting anyone to remember this but I went on a VERY LONG RANT about how dangerous of a position that put Louis and his business companies in because it involved taxes and the IRS. I would not be surprised that that moment basically made Louis go "okay well I can't just let things lie because then I'll have a bigger mess on my hand and stuff will creep up that I can't control that involves my closet" and so he has taken back over the stunt so he can have control over his closet.
Here's basically where I'm at and you can agree or disagree but this is what it is: Louis ending BG without coming out would be very difficult. Someone asked me "what do you mean babies are part of the closet" and it's kinda like... a baby is like the ultimate proof to the heterosexual world that you are heterosexual. You have had verifiable sex with the opposite sex. The nuance of how that all happens is lost in part of the bigger heterosexual picture. If you remove the baby from the equation you are now left with "Turns out Louis Tomlinson isn't the dad of the baby his fans never thought was his because they think he's gay and in a relationship with Harry Styles." And the fact that they have let it go on longer and longer just makes the fact you can't end it without forcing him out of the closet very difficult.
Especially if they don't have another section of the closet to fill that piece. AKA... he gets engaged or married to his long term girlfriend. Because what most people try to accomplish with their closets is that people don't go snooping around it. And losing BG would cause people to do that with Louis. "oh that baby was fake what about your relationship? oh you and this girlfriend have been together for how long and you guys never post anything normal or have gotten married/engaged? huh... weird"
And if he is trying to remove having a public girlfriend from his public persona, which I think he is, the only piece of the closet he has left is BG. Because if he removes BG he has to do SOMETHING to re-enforce the heterosexuality. He'd need to up the girlfriend side of things. He might need to get "engaged" so that way people don't go poking around at his closet.
TL;DR: BG is being used because it has been here. They missed the boat of ending the stunt at a time where it wouldn't have immediately outted Louis and now they have to use BG as part of his closet until Louis is able to come out. Which is his right to choose when he wants to come out. Does it suck for the kid? Verdicts out tbh but I'm not someone who thinks the kid really knows what's going on at this point outside of "oh hey I know this famous dude and go to Christmas with these people who are nice to me" and I also think when he's not with Louis - which is a lot - he's probably living his little six year old life with his mom and dad.

How long is “forever”? When it comes to digital media, forever could be as close as a couple of months away.
Funimation, a Sony-owned streaming service for anime, recently announced that subscribers’ digital libraries on the platform will be unavailable after April 2. For years, Funimation had been telling subscribers that they could keep streaming these digital copies of purchased movies and shows, but qualifying it: “Forever, but there are some restrictions.”
Funimation’s parent company, Sony, bought rival anime streaming service Crunchyroll in 2021. Since then, it was suspected that Sony would merge the offerings together somehow. This week, we learned how, as Funimation announced that its app and website would close on April 2, and Funimation accounts will become Crunchyroll accounts. Most of Funimation’s catalog is already on Crunchyroll, Funimation’s announcement claimed.
But in addition to offering video streaming, Funimation also dubbed and released anime as physical media, and sometimes those DVDs or Blu-rays would feature a digital code. Subscribers to the Funimation streaming service could add those digital codes to Funimation and then stream the content from the platform.
With Funimation claiming that customers could access these digital copies “forever,” I could see why someone might have thought this was a reliable way to access their purchased media. For people lacking the space, resources, or interest in maintaining a library of physical media, this was a good way to preserve treasured shows and movies without spending more money. It also provided a simple way to access purchased media online if you were, for example, away on a trip and had a hankering to watch some anime DVDs you bought.
But soon, people who may have discarded or lost their physical media or lack a way to play DVDs and Blu-rays won’t have a way to access the digital copies that they were entitled to through their physical copy purchase.
Funimation’s announcement says:
Please note that Crunchyroll does not currently support Funimation Digital copies, which means that access to previously available digital copies will not be supported. However, we are continuously working to enhance our content offerings and provide you with an exceptional anime streaming experience. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to explore the extensive anime library available on Crunchyroll.
Regarding refunds, Funimation’s announcement directed customers to its support team “to see the available options based on your payment method,” but there’s no mention of getting money back for a DVD or Blu-ray that you might not have purchased had you known you couldn’t stream it “forever.”
The Meaning of “Forever” in the World of Streaming
Funimation’s support page for digital copies (which, as of this writing, says it hasn’t been updated in four years) notes that Funimation’s idea of forever includes restrictions and links to Funimation’s Terms of Use. Those terms state that Funimation can “without advance notice … immediately suspend or terminate the availability of the Service and/or content (and any elements and features of them), in whole or in part, for any reason.” It also says that the Funimation website, apps, service, and all of its content are owned by Funimation and its partners.
So even if you, understandably, thought you were buying a “forever” digital copy, the wordy truth is that you never really owned it. Yet, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that someone relying on digital copies to preserve their purchased media didn’t properly understand (or read) those terms before discarding their physical copies.
The news is a tough pill to swallow for Funimation users but another reminder of the dangers of relying on streaming services as a permanent way to access shows and movies that you’ve paid for. Streaming services continuously remove things that people have already purchased. And with the streaming world still evolving, we may have only seen the beginning of mergers like that of Crunchyroll and Funimation, which are upending longtime subscriber experiences.
In December, Sony’s PlayStation announced that people who bought Discovery content from the PlayStation Store would lose access to it “due to our content licensing arrangements.” Sony’s curt notice to customers noted that the changes would take effect at the end of that month. A few weeks later, and 10 days ahead of the expected disruption, PlayStation said that it would no longer remove the content “due to updated licensing arrangements.” It’s unclear how exactly things changed, but the tug-of-war that customers are experiencing is just one more example of how provisional digital copies of media can be, even when you pay for them.
With further consolidation, app launches, and licensing debates likely to continue rocking streaming services, it’s a good time to reconsider total reliance on streaming media.

Y'ALL, LOOK WHAT CAME IN A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO!!! :3
Tumblr media
It might not look like much, but...
☆(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ* MAGICAL TRANSFORMATION!
Tumblr media
As you can see, the box is actually a collector's box with 4 CDs + a bonus case with a few alternative covers!! ((o(*>ω<*)o)) The included CDs are the Persona 3 Original Soundtrack, the Persona 3 FES Original Soundtrack, Burn My Dread -Reincarnation Persona 3- and the Persona 4 Original Soundtrack! This collector's box was limited to Amazon and Sony Music Shop in Japan, so it's a rare item! Ever since discovering it, I had been stalking it on Surugaya and lost a previous chance... When I got that e-mail a month ago, I started tapping at the speed of light to make sure I would get it this time (and I did uwu)! This is the Amazon version of the box; the Sony Music Shop version is a black box with white letters. I would have been okay with either one, but this was the one I preferred!! \(^o^)/
The other two CDs, which I bought separately, are Persona 3 Original Desktop Accessory (an enhanced CD that, in addition to two music tracks, has wallpapers, a screensaver, and a few voice clips for most of the characters in the game and was given out as a pre-order bonus for Persona 3 in Japan) and the Persona 3 Portable Original Soundtrack! I've already messed around with Persona 3 Original Desktop Accessory, and let me tell you, it is a PAIN IN THE ASS on Windows 10! (•ˋ _ ˊ•) I guess I should have expected as much from a 2006 CD meant to run on the Japanese version of Windows XP, but all I could get copied was the two tracks and most, not all of the voice clips. The wallpapers just straight up refused to copy. I went as far as to download a Windows XP virtual machine... only for the CD to not even be recognized by the VM??? So, I— gracefully— give the fuck up.
I won't be sharing these CDs because, except for Persona 3 Original Desktop Accessory, they are by no means hard to get (or just download elsewhere xD). If you don't want to deal with importing, they're on Amazon, CDJapan, eBay, the English Suruga-ya website, and Goods Republic, among others. If you're familiar with importing, these CDs pop up on any Japanese website you can get CDs from. They're not doujin, and DEFINITELY not in any danger of being lost.
THAT SAID, I'M SO HAPPYYYYY!!! ^^ Gonna go rip the tracks from the rest of the CDs now!

I don't have an opinion that's solid enough to be formed into a proper law (seeing as laws you don't really get to put nuance or shades of grey in since it'll be down to what some random asshole judge decides so you gotta write it right), but this is generally my opinion on copyright
Basically I think copyright is important for smaller creators and is the right thing to do, but once you get up to these massive corporations I feel like it just holds back the public good (literally the stated goal of US copyright is something along the lines of to serve the public good)
Small creators 100% need mechanisms to keep control of their work and keep pricks from reposting it with the watermarks cropped out
Massive ass music companies lose nothing if someone plays some song in the background of their lets play or whatever (in fact they stand to gain, I've bought an album because of that before), and they kinda just make everything worse for everyone
Sadly I don't have the legalese to phrase where the cut off is, nor do I have the foresight or mind of a loophole finding lawyer to close every loophole (Like how do we keep sony from just hiring every artist as an independent contractor in what I'm proposing? Gotta hash that out in clear terms if you're making a law)
Still, that's my stance. Individuals and small groups deserve protections cause they need it, big ass companies like disney and sony can get fucked in part because they are in zero danger of someone displacing them in the market by selling Spider-Man merch or whatever
(This is also my feelings on piracy. Don't pirate from small groups, pirate like hell from big places)

With the new Across the Spiderverse trailer that just came out and the discussions that the epilepsy community has been trying to have for years about the dangers presented by Into the Spiderverse, I want to put a challenge out there for Spiderverse fans, which is to speak out against the use of strobes in the Spiderverse movies. I’m not calling for a boycott here or anything, but I do want to see people trying to get Sony to feel that putting out a movie that literally endangers people’s lives will get them criticized instead of just praised. Let them know that you think the movie would be better if you could watch it with people who are currently excluded from the audience.
And I know that I’m going to get people on this post saying that Spiderverse is fine the way it is and that I’m being too sensitive just because I can’t see it, because I always get those kinds of comments on posts that are critical of flashing lights, especially in Spiderverse. But I feel that this is incredibly important, because Spiderverse has proved to Sony and other movie studios that they can put out movies with dangerous amounts of flashing lights and get nothing but praise so far. And this is contributing to a culture where photosensitive people and finding it harder and harder to find any media that is safe for them to watch.
Sony is a large company, someone along the line most likely knew that Spiderverse was dangerous before it was released, and I’d be even more surprised if someone at Sony didn’t know now how dangerous it was, but they haven’t made any adjustments. They’re not going to listen to the concerns of those of us who can’t see the movie because they’ve already made it clear they don’t consider us part of the “anyone can wear the mask” message. But they might listen to disapproval from the fans, even without an immediate threat of profit loss.
Just please consider speaking up about this incredibly important issue.

How do *you* feel about the Activision-Microsoft merger?
Tumblr media
Mergers and acquisitions are normal in business. Over the course of my career, I've seen several large industry publishers merge or acquire other publishers, and dozens of independent studios get purchased by publishers.
Sega merged with Sammy Corp. in 2004 to form Sega-Sammy. Later they bought Atlus.
EA merged with Pandemic Studios + Bioware in 2007
Bandai and Namco merged in 2007
Activision merged with Vivendi Universal's games division in 2008 to form Activision-Blizzard
Bungie was purchased by Microsoft in 2000, bought itself out to go independent again in 2007, and was recently acquired by Sony in 2022.
Activision-Blizzard merged with King in 2015
Microsoft acquired ZeniMax in 2020
EA acquired Glu Mobile in 2021
Embracer Group bought Gearbox in 2021
Take Two bought Zynga in 2022
These kinds of behaviors are fairly normal in any major industry. Smaller companies fall on hard times and a larger company offers a rescue. Old leadership grows weary of running the company and someone offers them a big payday. Two like-minded sets of leadership decide that they would work better together.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, the danger comes when too much consolidation happens and, instead of a market with plenty of competition, you end up with a cartel. It's not quite a monopoly with a single controlling company, but it's pretty close - a cartel is a handful of enormous organizations/companies that control the vast majority of the market and collude with each other in order to keep competition down and enrich themselves. In such a situation, they don't have to compete as hard anymore because they can take turns and help each other out. Any rising competition either gets bought or sabotaged by the combined might of the cartel.
Tumblr media
Usually this happens because the cost for entering the market is really high - it's really risky to take that chance to compete with the cartel, which makes the newcomers much more vulnerable to cartel countermeasures. You can see this kind of corporate nonsense at work in many fields here in the US - there are only a handful of telecom companies, internet service providers, meat packing companies, train companies, cloud computing services, and so on. A big sign you're dealing with a cartel is when there aren't many options and none of them are particularly appealing.
Tumblr media
I don't think that's happened in video games yet - we still have large independent publishers like Take Two, Steam, and EA, and we have medium-sized independent publishers like Capcom, Sega-Sammy, Bandai-Namco, Epic, and so on. But if the mega-corps keep buying up the bigger publishers, we'll probably end up in cartel territory and everything will suck.

What The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Could Have Been
(All the deleted scenes, cut concepts and studio notes that could've saved this movie)
(Sequel to this post on TASM deleted scenes)
COMPILED FROM:
deleted scene compilation
Comparison to a rough cut
An analysis of an earlier draft, from the International Business Times
Badass Digest’s look at the earlier script
Kevin Feige’s notes on the movie for Sony
BTS footage of Mary Jane scenes
OPENING
“There are too many story lines and we need to choose which ones we are focusing on and lift out the other ones, ie; could reduce father arc to just Roosevelt?
"Could cut out plane crash and Richard destroying spiders”
Young Peter and Harry play chess at the Parkers’ Wake, mentioned in the director’s commentary:
“Peter was this lonely child in this room of adults, and he snuck off to his Dad’s study, and in walked Harry … They started playing chess, it was kind of a metaphor and I can’t remember the exact dialogue, but it was this lovely moment of these boys connecting and finding each-other. [Before this] Their relationship had been all about going to their fathers’ labs … They turn and there’s this silhouetted man in the beginning of his degenerative disease holding onto his cane.”
Starting the movie in Richard Parker’s study (just like hide and seek in TASM) creates a thematic through-line with the first film
Much stronger setup of Harry and Peter’s friendship
Better setup of the disease and Norman’s shadow over Harry and Peter
Ties into Fiege’s recommendation:
“If you cut Richard from the opening and the plane crash maybe you could instead do Harry coming home and seeing Norman at the top of the movie as a cold open.”
TRUCK CHASE
MJ is waitressing at a café during the opening truck chase
“Don’t start with Spider-Man….let the danger/stakes to NYC build first and then have Spider-Man enter the scene heroically.”
“Tone down Paul Giamatti performance, so he seems a bit more menacing and less cartoonish.”
“There could be a better way to reveal that Peter is missing graduation – maybe when you cut Gwen you cut to the wide shot?”
“Tiny note – don’t think Peter would lie to Gwen about sirens --- maybe he just downplays it…”
“Stan Lee Cameo – maybe need a little more emphasis on Peter here trying to get out of his costume and not be in seen…set up a little more the pressure of the principal getting closer and closer to calling his name.”
“Instead of seeing the ghost of Captain Stacy, can just here the voice in Peter’s head and maybe flash back to the last movie?  Don’t think we should add Cap Stacy back into car chase.”
Flash at Graduation
Just a cute little character moment, and more continuity from TASM. Webb does these so well
“There is too much back and forth with Peter and Gwen – can we recut the Dim Sum scene so that it doesn’t feel so repetitive of their break-up in the last movie – Can Peter be more honorable and definitive and less wishy-washy?”
TIME JUMP
“There’s an entire year gap between the high school graduation and most of the rest of the film. This year gap makes Peter’s forlorn attitude towards Gwen cute instead of creepy, and it establishes that they’re college students. Gwen’s application to Oxford make more sense – in the finished film it’s like she decided to go to college at the last minute.”
Max’s Mother
Max is looking after his bed-bound mother, who is emotionally abusive - she doesn’t remember or care about her own son’s birthday
Stronger setup of Max’s isolation, more personal than just his rejection by Spider-Man
His freakout here plays better than the one at Oscorp for ‘disrespecting’ Spider-Man
Links to an important deleted scene later on
Gwen and Max in the elevator
“It must be pretty cool, to have the whole world see you like that. I wish I was like him.”
J Jonah Jameson
Peter, now a student at Empire State University, brings his first Spider-Man pictures to JJJ, who gives him a tour of the Daily Bugle offices in Times Square.
We meet Robbie Robertson and JJJ complains that the internet is killing print media
Electro in the Subway / wandering New York
Electro returns home
He finds his supposedly bedridden mother walking, and cashing in on his death
Much stronger, personal reason for Max’s psychotic break as he heads to Times Square
Extended Times Square Battle
“Spidey and Electro’s first fight send them crashing through the Daily Bugle offices and the printing presses-”
JJJ gets his scoop
This could’ve fed into the city treating Max like a freak
Peter Meets MJ while working on his Electro-proof webbing
Tumblr media
MJ and her drunkard father have just moved in next door. She builds motorcycles as a hobby and has a spider tattoo on her wrist; she’s a Spidey fan and has a crush on Peter
Peter and Gwen angst in their rooms after Times Square
Harry tells Peter Oscorp is watching him
Cool introduction of the Goblin suit, and we establish the power plant for the finale
More Felicia. Another moment showing Harry’s disease
“He spent more time watching you than me.”
The boys are united in their quest for answers about their dads
“Surveillance scene should be about following Harry not Peter…no one should be following Peter.”
“Harry story feels like the main plot of the movie – Peter should look into the past b/c of Harry – maybe find some photos of them together as kids…use obsession wall more to set up this part of his past not just what happened to parents.”
Feige seems to want the order to go:
Gwen and Peter angst in their rooms
Surveillance scene (focusing on Harry)
Obsession Wall (focusing on Harry)
Spidey vs Copycat
Just a cute Friendly Neighbourhood scene, this movie did them so well
Spidey Confronts MJ's Father
Tumblr media
Something we never got from the Raimi version, fitting for this version of Peter. Another cool Neighbourhood moment
DR RATHA
“[In TASM] Dr. Ratha seems to have been killed in deleted scenes, but the actual movie leaves him alive … He shows up in the script for TASM2, filling the same role as Donald Menken... the Oscorp stooge who engineers Harry’s dismissal from the company.
Nice continuity [from TASM]. All of the basic elements of Ratha’s role are in the finished movie, there’s just a different name attached.”
ALTERNATE GOBLIN SUIT BACKSTORY
“In the original script the Goblin suit isn’t for military use but was specifically built in secret to heal/help Norman Osborn [After] Richard Parker wouldn’t give his blood to Osborn (the Parker DNA still being the key to it all). The suit went into Norman’s boathouse where Harry finds it.”
Harry finding the Boathouse parallels Peter finding Roosevelt
Norman making the Goblin suit emphasizes how Harry is being manipulated by his father from beyond the grave
“Don’t like the idea that May tells Peter his parents were spies b/c two seconds later he finds out they are not.”
Gwen is accepted into Oxford
This is such a brief moment, why didn’t we actually see it?
Gwen Writes a Letter to Peter
Replacing the voicemail she leaves him in the Theatrical cut
After escaping Ravencroft, Max meets Harry at his father’s grave
Max considers killing Harry as revenge for his accident
They consolidate their partnership. Doing this at Norman’s grave foregrounds his influence on Harry
Spreading Max and Harry’s union across two scenes is just better pacing, considering they’ve never met before Max’s escape
Gwen visits Aunt May as she’s leaving for Oxford
Gwen meets MJ:
Tumblr media
MJ asks how she can find someone like Peter, all the guys she attracts are “dickheads”. Gwen replies “date a nerd”
Aunt May encourages Peter to go after Gwen
MAY: Peter, what is the matter with you? You love this girl with all your heart and soul. Does she know that? Have you told her?
PETER: No.
MAY: Then give her that. The rest of it’s up to her. And you don’t have forever, none of us ever do.
Great character beat alluding to the loss of Ben, foreshadowing Gwen’s death, and setting up “I love you” on the bridge
Another mirror to TASM, where May encourages Peter to pursue his relationship with Gwen (“If there’s one thing you are, Peter Parker, it’s good.”)
Extended birth of the Goblin/ Harry attacks Oscorp
Tumblr media
Love the body-horror here
Pumpkin bomb!
Menken's [or Ratha’s] death. Plus it just gives Harry more to do
Alternate final Electro battle
Spidey cocoons Max in his new webbing.
Instead of blowing up,  Max is drained and ends up in the river- I prefer Spider-Man not outright murdering his villains
“Spider-Man needs to feel more directly responsible for preventing the planes from crashing.”
“Don’t show New Yorkers looting.”
Peter nearly kills Harry
Tumblr media
Harry is still conscious and laughing after Gwen’s death. Peter beats him and nearly impales him with his own Glider
we hear Uncle Ben's words from the first film. He doesn't kill him and tells Harry the serum did it to him.
“Need to underscore capture of goblin…more sirens as you linger on the clock 1;21, 1:22 am (nice touch)”
Peter asks for forgiveness at Captain Stacy’s grave
Much better expression of Peter’s guilt than the ghost
“Like the idea that May finds out he’s Spider-Man – finds his costume instead of just the rosemary harris wink-wink all the time.”
“Maybe intercut the ending montage and hearing Gwen’s speech with someone going into special projects and revealing more easter eggs and see that the rhino case has been broke into and the suit is missing…great way to transition to rhino ending.”
Other stuff that isn’t better:
Peter gives Harry his blood
Although this makes Peter a better friend, it also makes him directly responsible for the creation of the Goblin
Extended Goblin Fight
Harry keeps chasing Peter as Gwen falls and breaks her neck with his own hands
Gwen’s last words encouraging Peter
I prefer her instantaneous death, also Peter quitting for months immediately after she says this makes him a huge dick
Richard Parker approaches Peter in the graveyard:
I’m torn on this one. On one hand it finally gives closure to the ‘Untold Story’ subplot Webb allegedly originally envisioned finishing in Film 1
“With great power comes great responsibility”
Andrew acts the shit out of this scene
However you’d need to keep the opening plane crash to properly pay this off and the Parker Blood Destiny gimmick is bad
Post-credit scene: Norman’s Head
An extension of the 'Special Projects' Easter-Egg vault, Michael Massee's Gustav Fiers visits Oscorp Vault #3. There we see Norman Osborn's disembodied, frozen head. Fiers ends the scene with "wake up, old friend"
Tumblr media
Norman actor Chris Cooper said:
“We shot the scene -- it's so weird -- but it didn't make it into 'Spider-Man 2.' I’m sure it would probably have been one of the opening scenes in 'Spider-Man 3' if they had gone ahead. But he was coming back. It's very bizarre, what they came up with.”
TLDR; We could've got a more cohesive, character-focused film driven by Peter's relationship with Harry. A better-developed Electro, more continuity from TASM to stop the film feeling like a reboot, expansion on Harry's illness and Norman's manipulation. MJ could've been our representation of Spider-Man's 'Friendly Neighbourhood' impact, and the worst of the Super Spy Parents would be gone.
It's just a massive, massive shame, man.

Two of Us leaves a bad taste in my mouth these days. The more the other writers talk about the development process the clearer it becomes that they were complicit with Sony in pushing Louis to release a song he wasn’t lyrically or sonically up for writing. All so Sony could milk tearjerker dollars from 1D fans. I know the music industry is a shitty business but I can’t wrap my head around how cold you would have to be to add to the burden of someone you knew was already struggling.
That’s not how I took it, tbh.
It felt to me, at the time, that Louis did have some insecurity or anxiety about continuing his career without his mother. Jay had been Louis’ bedrock who guided his life in every aspect, up until she became ill and subsequently passed away. Jay was 100% in Louis’ corner. Her confidence in Louis’ ability never wavered. In difficult times, under difficult conditions, Louis could always consult her to help him make the right choice.
When we look at the entirety of Louis’ career and life, we realize that there is really no one else with the loyalty and wisdom that Jay had. No matter what One Direction or the media or fans were doing, and no matter the vicissitudes of pop culture, Louis could count on Jay’s steady, supportive, and astute nature to love him unconditionally and give him an honest yet fair opinion. Suddenly she wasn’t there anymore, and Louis had to both process his own grief, and to be the head of his family, the spokesperson and the role model.
Even today, you can see the conflict in Louis’ nature. He is the leader in so many ways (“I was always the boss,” as he said), the decision-maker of expensive, risky, high profile projects, the face of fame for his sisters’ careers, the father who must protect his son from the dangers of fame and keep his own name out of rude headlines. Yet Louis is also a man who never really lived a normal late-adolescence. He “skipped” the freedom of being able to do stupid things out of the limelight, to form normal young adult friendships and romances, to educate himself on relationships, culture, and history, to have a loose day or two online just shit-texting. He tries to have a normal life, but friends and family can also be young, immature, or plain unreliable. Sometimes (nowadays) Louis does stuff just for the adrenaline and you can understand why.
Writing a song about Jay seemed to me (at the time) like a gate that Louis had to pass through, to process what was happening to him mentally and emotionally, and it was seriously challenging for him. He didn’t feel up to doing it for many reasons.
Also, as the rest of the songs from Walls demonstrated, Louis felt like the album had to tell his entire life story up to that point (he even said he had envisioned the songs in chronological order), and Two Of Us was the touchstone in his story that he could not allow himself to get wrong. During the lead-up to the album, Louis had a habit of saying he was “a perfectionist,” which I interpreted to mean that he had both very high expectations of the creative work but also an anxiety about getting the details right.
I think it’s pretty tough to read a few lines from Bryn Christopher about the songwriting on Two Of Us and understand it from Louis’ perspective, his motivation. The music videos— the performance video and the video with Richard Green— give us a better idea of what Louis aimed to do with that song. He has almost a compulsion to share his compassion and generosity with the world; this is the other side of the coin of his private, intense sadness. I think this duality allows him to be a steadier person, and it’s also something he learned from Jay.
