Idk why i expect charitability from ppl who probably listen to whatever their staple favorite left-leaning video essayists says about the Other Leftists they dont like and takes it to heart and doesnt form their own opinion with the information provided (or the information specifically and intentionally left out to make the person look the worst that they can) just kinda does whatever that persons says because Its Probably Correct
I mean, theyre "on the left" and uses all the words you like, nevermind what their intentions or long terms goals are or how thatd reasonably be practiced irl or if it'd actually hurt the general cause of progressives and make things even more divisive and worse bc they value being petty more than actually having any values.
#yall be like 'i better go watch this black person who believes in racial separatism and take everything they say to heart and not form my#own opinion because the Correct Thing To Do is to let every minority im not say shit that would only help nazis in the long run Because Im#Not That Minority So Clearly I Have No Stake In This'. like idk. its one thing to pretend you understand every thing about a certain#minorities experience that you dont have. its a whole other thing to actually challenge people on their beliefs. and if the person you#are challenging cant give you a good enough answer or dodges or gets MAD at you for even asking - you should probably avoid them or at the#very least not just believe every fucking thing they say and never come to your own conclusions on shit.#people are supposed to have the critical thinking ability to have their beliefs challenged and give you an actual answer#theyre supposed to want you to understand. theyre supposed ro be able to explain it to people who dont understand#and arent in the same spaces enough to understand. if you cant explain to me why racial separatism is somehow Ideal then why should#i listen to you. just to do whatever you say no questions asked or else im bad and very problematic?#like how am i supposed to take this kinda person seriously when they go around calling shark3ozero the c word and other#racist shit. like you're not serious lol. you have no issue just acting like the people who disagree with you on something are just purely#bigots.#when the people you attack are far more on your side than the fucking republicans who yall barely even mention. which is interesting.#anyways if you believe in dividing everyone by race understand that thats LITERALLY what white supremacists want. that is Not the ideal#world for me. idk about you. and if you understand this and still follow me gtfo of here#you're a dipshit and prolly an accelerationist and i dont have time for your bullshit and likely nihilism.#you're gonna end up killing yourself thinking the world is only ever against you and everyone who disagrees w you is a bigot.#and i dont mean necessarily actually putting up a noose i just mean you're gonna isolate yourself SO MUCH from other ppl and stay only in#your one little space. that if you ever lose that space for whatever reason you'll be left alone w no help.#or you'll isolate yourself so much and stay inside forever and be hella paranoid in grocery stores thinkin everyone there Wants To Kill You#and im not gonna act like ik whats in the mind of someone who believes in racial separatism. that was more of an example. but i can try#to understand and i can tell that someone has to go through a lot of bs to think thats the only solution. im not trying to downplay why ppl#might think thats the best option. but really its the same shit w terfs and cis men and it kinda seems like its a solution born from trauma#with convoluted justifications for why its Fine actually#thats how it looks from my angle rn. if thats not the case and you feel like its different im always willing to hear different angles on#stuff. im never married to my positions as im not exactly a static person who never changes.#id say thats quite the opposite of my Whole Thing

Soap Alphabet; G= Goofy, K=Kinks, L=Locations, 18+, MINORS DNI, | insp by this.
Pairing: John Soap Mactavish x male reader
content tags: handjobs, exhibitionism, glove fetishism (I think that's the word idk Soap likes getting u off with his gloves on)
Stand alone/ part of a series
A/N: I've been seeing this a-z alphabet thing going around here and on tiktok and wanted to give it a shot, this is meant to be a blurb of some sort, I just dont know how to shut up thats why its a wee bit long.
“You want head ?” Soap asks as he nudges you with his shoulder.
You turn your head to the side to look at him, and despite the mask that you’re wearing he knows you’re raising a brow at him. “We’re literally at a stake out”
“So ?” He asks with a shrug, not really seeing any issue with having his mouth on your cock while on the clock “You’ll keep watch while I do all the work. Well technically we both will be doing the work” he says, chuckling at his own joke.
You turn your head straight forward, gaze falling upon the soldier stationed a bit further away from the two of you “What about him?
Soap turns his head to the soldier as well (what’s his name again? Marvin something?) only to see him being as oblivious as ever to the pairs of eyes burning into the back of his neck. “What about him?” Soap asks as if nothing could deter him from this side quest, not even the presence of someone else.
“He’ll see” you try to explain, as if he’s somehow forgotten about the potential consequences while forming this great plan.
“That’s what we got this bad boy for” he says and gestures to the rock laying in front of you. It’s rather large in size and manages to hide two grown soldiers pretty easily. The only thing is that it has a large opening in the middle of it but as long as one lays low (which the two of you have been doing) onlookers are only able to see your heads and shoulders. Technically he’d be able to suck-
You can't believe that you’re actually considering this.
But once you realize there’s really not much to do here anyway other than lay around in the dirt (something you’ve been doing for a good hour or so), you agree to his suggestion.
“Hell yeah “ he cheers once you agree to do it. You roll your eyes but can’t help but smile at his enthusiasm as you roll over to lay on your back, while the other man stays laying on his stomach. Once you’re laying on your back and your head’s propped up on the heavy stone, he scoots down to be eye level with your lower half. His hands are quick to find their way to the waistband of your pants, wrestling with the belt and fumbling with the buttons.
“Fucking gear- can’t take it off- why are these things so heavy- oh thank fuck “ he says once he manages to take them off and before you know it you’re stripped down to your underwear, cold air caressing your exposing skin and sending goosebumps through your entire body.
“Oh you’re really into this idea” he says, taking note of the way your half hard cock presses against the fabric of your underwear.
“Can I tell you something?” He says as he starts trailing kisses up the expanses of your thigh “been thinking about this for a long time now” he explains as he runs his hands down the sides of your body“ you know getting to suck you off on a mission, I’d make sure we’re safe off course but you get the gist of it no?” he continues to say , and fucking nuzzles up against your dick.
“Wait” he almost shouts ”can I use gloves for this?” he asks and it almost looks like he’s fucking giving you puppy eyes.
“Yes yes, just get on with it Mactavish “ you say, annoyance clearly showing on your face as you tug at his hair in warning.
“Oh-oh-alright geez just thought I’d ask for consent, it’s important you know “ he says, clearly still teasing and clearly enjoying himself.
“And I really appreciate it babe but I really need your mouth on my co-“
All of sudden gloved hands pry at the waistband of your underwear, tugging your boxers down to your knees, and freeing your dick.
The cold air is rather unkind to your sensitive skin, raising goosebumps all over your body every time the wind caresses it.
“Will get u all warm real soon give me a minute yeah?” He says, noticing the goosebumps that rises on your skin as he spits onto your dick and on the glove he’s wearing. “What? Need lots of it” he says and shrugs innocently once he takes notice of the look you give him.
At last he wraps a gloved hand around your dick, warmth emanating from his palm as he starts stroking root to tip.
Your head hits the rock with a soft thud, eyes squeezing shut, heavy breaths escaping your lips, as you allow yourself to relax in his grip.
His pace is slow and gentle at first, as to not hurt you with the rough material of the glove. The spit does aid in making the movements much more fluid but you can still feel the fabric tugging and taunting sensitive skin, leaving you hissing every time it grazes your sensitive tip. Apologetic fingers are quick to soothe the sting, slicked with spit and thumbing at the tip. But despite the slight pain that comes with each and every stroke, you find yourself welcoming it, hips bucking into the palm of his hand.
“Oh fuck yes, you look so hot right now, Can’t believe you’re letting me do this, dear god” his hand settles on a slow and gentle pace, but it quickly turns careless and eager once your cock’s fully hard and weeping. A curious thumb goes to collect the precum dribbling from the tip, smearing it all around the head before he continues stroking your dick.
You’re twitching in his grasp, hips bucking into the palm of his hand and boots digging into the muddy ground “please, please, please ”
He ignores your pleas, solely focused on the sight in front him. “I have been thinking about this so much, you don’t even know, wanted to see my gloved hand wrapped around your cock, can’t believe you let me do it, love you so much”
He soon settles for a steady pace, occasionally he’ll twist his hand close to the tip, making you furiously buck up against him.
“Fuck fuck fuck” you moan as you continually thrust up into the palm of his hand. You’re sure by this point the soldier must’ve heard something, but you’re far gone to care, heels digging further into the floor as he speeds up the pace of his hand.
“Shh he’ll hear” he says with a chuckle as he presses his lips against yours in an attempt to suppress your moans.
“Fuck him” you whine out against his lips, hands burying in his hair to keep him close to you.
“Actually I was hoping you’d fuck me” he says with a wolfish grin on his face as he quickens his pace.
Another moan, much louder than the previous one escapes your lips.
“As much as I like hearing the pretty noises you make, we need to be quiet for the next part or else we’ll blow our cover” he says, once again reminding you of the soldier who’s still very much present.
He goes to take off the glove on his other hand, successfully pulling it off by just using his mouth before he palms the thing and gestures for you to take it.
“This isn’t part of your fantasy is it?” You pant, eyeing him suspiciously.
“Maybe” he shrugs innocently but there’s no missing his devious grin. “But you’ll still need this “
“Then get to it” is all you say , as you bite down on the glove, tasting leather on your tongue.
“With pleasure” he says before he goes to bury his head between your legs.
[Once it’s all over and done you hear the Scotsman say to himself “Saving this as a souvenir “ before he pockets the two gloves he’d been using.
“You’re one strange man, Mactavish, you know?”]

[tv review] ds9 3x06 "the abandoned" (1994)
this is a well-structured episode that sets up two main plots that have drastically different stakes & scale but have very coherent themes that dovetail effortlessly with each other. one of those times when it’s very clear what the show is saying without it being remotely forced.
the problem is that what the show has to say in both of these plotlines fucking sucks.
(cw: this episode depicts an adult dating a minor, and does not condemn it. i am about to rip it to shreds for this, but yeah, didn't want to spring that on anyone.)
in one corner, we have a rapidly-aging jem’hadar that was recovered from some gamma quadrant salvage and became the station’s problem. odo takes the boy under his wing, and it’s all very sweet until it isn’t? but we’ll come back to that. in the other corner, jake sisko, a 16-year-old boy, is dating a 20-year-old girl. his father is, rightly, really fucking upset about that, but the whole plot is about making him okay with that and just. fucking. can we not?
in main, serious plot land, we actually get off to a pretty great start. sisko oohs & ahhs over the infant in sickbay, and i just fucking love how much he lights up in this scene. one of the many things i love about sisko is that he’s consistently portrayed as a kind, nurturing father, and this scene is just such a wonderful concentrated form of that. and when odo takes the boy under his wing, he’s uncomfortable & awkward as hell but clearly has the boy’s best interests at heart.
for like maybe 50% of the episode things are going swimmingly, and then odo boots up a combat program to give the boy a healthy outlet for the aggressive urges he’s having trouble regulating, and kira barges in & pulls odo aside to tell him she violently disagrees with this? and the episode totally bears her point of view out? the only way odo is able to defuse the situation is by taking the boy to the gamma quadrant and turning him over to the dominion to be a soldier-slave, and worse the episode literally ends with him sitting down & telling kira, “you were right.” BARF!
so if you’re keeping score at home, this episode spends most of its runtime asking interesting questions about nature vs. nurture and head-fakes at breaking down prejudice, and then ends up coming down decisively on the side of “nature” & justifying a prejudiced view of the jem’hadar, a race of people that is literally enslaved. COOL.
over in subplot land, there’s some goalpost shifting where sisko’s objections to jake’s relationship with mardah is framed as being about her being a dabo girl rather than JAKE BEING A LITERAL CHILD AND HER BEING A LITERAL ADULT???
they have this family dinner and sisko finds out that she’s actually very smart & pursuing an education, which like, NO SHIT? a lot of people are in demeaning service industry jobs to support something like this, and those of us who are stuck there and have no path out are oftentimes also well-educated? like, that’s his objection? really??? so yeah, that whole thing is just immediately off the rails and at the end of the episode he’s like… still got his misgivings, but not like “this is probably illegal & definitely not okay, STOP”-shaped misgivings?
i just. this whole thing is SO fucking weird & irresponsible, and i cannot believe that it got written, performed, edited, and aired without anyone with the power to stop it doing so? like, i know that plenty of skeevy shit ends up on the air, but this is fucking star trek staking out an “idk, maybe it’s fine actually?” position on adults dating minors????? fucking… HOW is that a thing that happened???
you know what, i don’t care that parts of this episode were good, both of its plotlines are morally bankrupt in ways that are inextricable from the very nature of the episode, i’m not giving this one a pass. it dealt me psychic damage. d-rank

Was sick today and watched one of my absolute favorite comfort films to distract myself. And now, an editorial for you all:
Reasons Tangled is one of the best animated Disney movies (in no particular order):
It is very focused and story/character-driven. There are no wasted scenes or useless characters who are clearly only there to sell merch. And no, I don’t want to hear that Pascal was useless, he was literally Rapunzel’s only source of genuine, selfless love before Flynn stumbled into her life, and he spends the entire movie just making sure she’s safe and happy. Also even if he was useless, at least he’s quiet.
Nothing irritating or cringey, like fart jokes, whiney voices, or meme references.
That being said, holy flip, this movie is hilarious. It uses slapstick comedy in such an effective way, along with punchy dialogue, witty one-liners, and unexpected visual gags. But at no point does the comedy ever overstay its welcome.
The story is very self-contained and intimate--it’s only interested in the fate of its two main characters, and it doesn’t try to convince you that there’s anything more at stake than their personal wellbeing. It is also a very smart re-telling of a classic fairy tale with some much needed updates to the story that don’t detract from the original vibe or appeal of said fairy tale.
It takes a good hard look at the nature of manipulation and abuse, and doesn’t shy away from showing just how subtle those things can be--which is not something you usually get from a “kids’ movie.”
Rapunzel is not a superpowered Mary Sue who gets everything done by herself. She’s smart and goal-oriented, but is not ashamed to ask for (or demand, as is the case with Flynn) help when she knows she needs it. She is timid and naïve, but also kindhearted and sweet. She improves the lives of everyone she comes into contact with simply by being polite and accepting of others’ flaws. So no, she’s not a girl-power fantasy heroine, she’s a relatable and realistic young woman, and I personally like that a lot better.
Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert isn’t a stereotypical Disney Prince. He has depth and complexity, a muddled sense of morality that comes from being exposed to the cruelty and unfairness of the world from far too young an age. BUT HE IS NOT A FATALISTIC CYNIC WHO TRIES TO FORCE HIS BAD EXPERIENCES ON RAPUNZEL, IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT SHE IS AN EASY TARGET FOR THAT KIND OF THING. Once they become friends, he’s even eager to show her the nicer parts of the world, and does his best to make sure she has the happy birthday she deserves.
Also on the subject of Eugene, even though he initially has no interest in helping Rapunzel achieve her dream, he is still respectful towards her and protects her when the situation becomes genuinely dangerous. Yes, he’s a self-centered prat at the start of the movie, and absolutely tries to manipulate her into letting him out of the bargain, but he’s not a heartless monster, and at no point does he ever entertain the thought of actually threatening or harming her in order to get the crown back.
One more thing on Eugene: him rediscovering the self he left in his childhood through Rapunzel’s enthusiasm and kindheartedness is a good arc, and it makes him falling in love with her even more believable.
Eugunzel is one of the best examples of a healthy couple in any Disney movie. There’s no imbalanced power dynamic between them, they are very much a team from very early on, working together as equals. And once they realize how much they truly care for each other, they are both willing to sacrifice anything and everything to keep the other safe. Tangled doesn’t give you that “Oh, love is a flittery feeling in your stomach, it’s the starry eyes and romantic gestures, it’s a feeling” nonsense. Tangled straight-up says “Yo. True love means you’re willing to put yourself and your desires aside in order to help the other person--and I don’t just mean accepting minor inconveniences, I mean actually dying to protect them, if necessary. Love ain’t for pansies, y’all.”
Unlike other movies (cough! Frozen! cough!), which just had to spell everything out for us in easy-to-remember one-liners that summed up all the major messages in the movie, Tangled never shoves its themes down your throat. It’s most concerned with telling a good story first and foremost, and everything else is woven in there with subtlety and nuance.
The film doesn’t shy away from the fact that the world is messy. It’s not the dark, soul-sucking void that Gothel tried to tell Rapunzel it was, but it’s still unfair and sometimes cruel. But you can always find good, even in the most unexpected places, and that’s why you can’t close yourself off to experiencing the outside world and its inhabitants, even those you might initially write off as “bad.”
This movie is flipping gorgeous, alright? Like, if I had the choice to visit any world from any Disney movie, I would pick Corona, hands-down. Every environment is so beautifully crafted, with intricate, artistic detail. The Lantern Scene is one of my absolute favorite animated sequences from any movie. And the character expressions are so real and evocative, it makes you feel those emotions right down to your bones.
The voice acting is incredible, and it is the standard to which I’ve held all voice acting ever since I first saw this movie. And no, Mandy Moore isn’t just “another celebrity voice” here. Her voice is actually perfect for Rapunzel because it captures that sweet, youthful enthusiasm that is the core of her character.
The music is good, idk what y’all are talking about. No, there’s no Broadway power ballads or anything, but it serves the movie well. Also Tangled was more interested in being a good story than having a soundtrack that would be touted and overshared so much and blared in so many grocery stores and waiting rooms that eventually people would become embittered towards it.
And finally, this is not an objective reason why the movie is good, but I had to include it: Tangled is one of the most influential movies in my life. I first saw it when I was 13 years old, and it has shaped my creative style and taste in media more than any other film or book. If you read any of my fanfics, I can easily point out some small element of it that connects back to this movie. If you look at any of my doodles, they are very heavily inspired by the lush colors and expressive faces that defined Tangled.
TL;DR: Tangled is good, and I want more people to understand that, and not dismiss it as “just another Disney Princess movie.”

Fandom racism anon here and yeah absolutely (I didn't realise I had anon on lol)
Because while LOTR has problems within its themes (ie the orcs can be seen as to be coded as people of colour, especially since they ride elephants) the explicit message of the book is evil bad
Because the only people who work for sauron are evil. There are no morally grey people, they aren't misguided or tricked they just are evil and want to take over the world
And yeah I totally agree that this is more of a literal take on like empirical war (is that the word) and that makes total sense considering Tolkiens history
Whereas I would say that the allegories in shaowhunters is way more based on racial conflict within a country itself especially slavery, I can't remember if this is show Canon but is it that they have the warlock tropheys? I remember that in the books magnus talks about shadowhunters hanging warlock marks on their walls? (sorry to bring the books up)
Idk it's very hollow to me, unlike with LOTR though it's a different allegory it's totally irritating to show many of these supremecists as morally misled. LOTR says bad guys are bad guys, shadowhunters says well yeah they did follow a guy which thinks that downworlders are subhuman and should be eradicated but they just made a mistake
I want to compare this to tfatws which while it isn't really fantasy I just feel like it shows how the priorities of the writer can impact the message of the show so powerfully (I know u aren't up to date so I'm gonna be pretty vague)
There's a scene in tfatws where the new white perfect captain America does something bad and doesn't pay for the consequences - done to comment on white privelege and how America condones white supremacy and how Sam is in comparison to that
Mayrse and Robert revealed to be part of the circle! And paid no consequences Shock horror my parents were the bad guys (even rho they were either implicitly or explicitly extremely racist the entire time) also I haven't finished the seires but do the lightwoods ever try to get their parents to face the consequences?)
Only one actual really critiques the situation and the reality behind it whereas the other one is just to centre the white characters once again and present them in a further sympathetic light
AND ANOTHER THING! I was mostly talking about show Canon here and I'm sorry to bring up the books but I literally can't believe I hadn't picked up in this before.
So like downworlders = people of colour, Simon is a vampire so is coded as a person of colour. However in the books in the last one he stops being a vampire and becomes a shadowhunters instead, coincidentally that's also when he starts dating Izzy HOW IS THIS ABLE TO HAPPEN!!????
I mean I know cassandra clare is lazy right? The original seires is by far the worst of all her writings but come ON!!!!! By the allegory has he become the white man!????? These books made no fuckin sense when I read them at 15 and they make no sense now I'm digressing anyways
I don't know man I wrote this ask because I was trying to find some fantasy book recommendations on booktube and SO MANY of them were about slavery or general ly extrême préjudice with à White protagonist to save this 'poor souls'.
Also I was watching guardians of the galexy the other day and realised nearly every movie set in space is just bigger stakes imperialism - planets instead of countries. Literally star wars, star trek, guardians of the galexy 2, avengers infinity war - all are facing genocidal imperialistic villains without actually paying much, if any attention to those effected
Just writing this ask made me exhausted I'm so tired of lazy writing and exploiting other people's struggle. I'm white and I'm trying to be more critical about the movies, shows and books I watch and read but let me know if I said something off here❤️❤️ you gotta get up to date with tfatws man, Sambucky nation is THRIVING!!!!
i'm not sure i agree that the whole "the evil people are evil" thing is a good thing, because i feel like more often than not making the bad characters just like... unidimensionally evil just means that the reader will be like "lol i could NEVER be that guy" and when it comes to racism that is a dangerous road to take because white people already believe that racism is something that Only The Most Evil People, Ergo, Not Me, Can Do, which makes discussions of stuff like subconscious racial bias and active antiracist work become more difficult because people don't believe they CAN be racist unless they're like, Lord Voldemort
which is not to say that racism should be treated as morally ambiguous, just that the workings of racism should be represented as something that is not done only by the Most Hardcore And Evil, but rather as a part of a system of oppression that affects the way everyone sees the world and interacts with it and lives in it
yes the warlock trophies are mentioned in the show, albeit very quickly (there is a circle member who tells magnus that his cat eyes will make "a nice addition to his collection" and then it's never mentioned again because this is sh and we love using racism for shock value but then not actually treating it as a serious plot point or something that affects oppressed ppl). and you are absolutely right, shadowhunters (and hp, and most fantasy books) has genocide as its core conflict and treats it, like you said, in a very hollow way, treating racism as both not a big deal and not something that is part of a system of oppression, but really the actions of a few Very Bad People. it's almost impressive how they manage to do both at the same time tbh
i think you hit the nail right on the head with this comment, actually. for most of these works, racism is SHOCK VALUE. it's just like "lol isn't it bad that this bad guy wants to kill a gazillion people just because they are muggles? now that is fucked up" but it's not actually an issue. in fact, when this guy is defeated, the whole problem is over! racism is not something that is embedded into that world, it's not a systemic issue, it's not even actually part of what drives the plot. the things that led to this person not only existing but rising to power and gathering enough followers to be a real threat to the whole world are never mentioned. it's like racists are born out of thin air, which is dangerously close to implying that racism is just a natural part of life, tbh
anyway my point is, it is never supposed to be questioned, it is never part of a deeper plot or story, its implications are barely addressed except for a few fleeting comments them and there; so, it's not a critique, it's shock value, even though it is frequently disguised as a critique (which is always empty and shallow anyway. like what is the REAL critique in works like hp or sh/tsc other than "genocide is bad"? wow such a groundbreaking take evelyn)
about simon and the book thing: i actually knew about this and the weird thing about this is that, like... simon is jewish, and he's implied to be ashkenazi (calls his grandma bubbe which is yiddish, which is a language spoken by the ashkenazi ppl), and it seems like cc is always toeing the line between him being accepted by shadowhunters and then not accepted by them, which sounds a lot like antisemitic tropes and history of swinging between (ashkenazi) jewish ppl being seen as the model minority myth and thus used as an example by white christians, and being hated and persecuted. i'm not super qualified to talk about this since i'm not jewish and i'm still learning about/unlearning antisemitism and its tropes, and i don't really have a fully formed thought on that, tbh; it just reminds me of the whole "model minority" swinging, where one second simon is part of the majority, the other he's not, but always he is supposed to give up a part of himself and his identity in other to be "assimilated" by shadowhunter culture. this article (link) covers a book on jewish people and assimilationism into USan culture, this article (link) covers british jews' relationship with being considered an ethnic group, and this article (link) talks a bit about the model minority myth from the perspective of an asian jewish woman
it just really calls to my attention that cc chose to make her ashkenazi jewish character start off as a downworlder and then become a shadowhunter. i don't think she made that decision as a conscious nod to this history, because it would require being informed on antisemitism lol but it's incredible how you can always see bigoted stereotypes shining through her narrative choices completely by accident. it just really shows how ingrained it is in our collective minds and culture
and anyway, making a character go from the oppressed group to just suddenly become the oppressor is just. wtf. not how oppression works, but most of all, really disrespectful, especially because she clearly treats it as an "upgrade"/"glowup" that earns him the Love Of His Life
also, out of curiosity, are you french? it seems like your autocorrect changed a few words and i'm pretty sure extrême and préjudice are the french versions of these words, and since u said ur white, that's where my money would be lol

In my opinion Oh-aew had some sort of crush on Tay (I have to write it this way the dyslexia jumps OUT if I spell it Teh) or like affection whatever even if he didn’t know it which you can see when it manifests now.
(I mean ok I know it’s been one episode but I’m always right)
It’s interesting that he said he can’t handle the pain of losing a friend like that again. I was surprised when he said no to being that close again and that’s when I think it was made clear just how much it meant in retrospect.
The argument was so stupid and I’m not gonna make this explicitly about living in a Society but the idea of choosing and being jealous as if you can’t exist at once. What happens if art is fun? What happens when we realize we all have the lights in us.
When Tay was like I just want him to do poorly there was no basis besides insecurity. It’s such a stupid way of looking at things but human and immature. There’s no explicit guarantee one is better than the other but “nobody can replace anybody else so it would be a shame to make a comparison” (this is a fiona apple lyric) comes to mind. We can’t get to where we’re going together? And obviously that’s not true since they all have their friends that they grew up with.
I also like how it’s not outright opulence. Rich ppl suck and i dont want that in my eyes. I don’t feel bombarded with wealth and a fairytale. As if this would be the sole key to tbe happy ending that all media proposes is a victory in their laziness to ensure and please capital.
But that’s also clearly because this show was taken with immense care at least on the crew’s side. But for the cast yea that too I mean everyone’s so dramatic but it has its flair, very Thai, and they use the vibrancy and the landscape.
But this is what happens when things aren’t made at a constant rate and you try to churn out many episodes.
I find a lot of these shows to be unbearable and I have a high threshold for “good” acting because I’m overly critical and terrible but it was nice seeing them even if it was so much crying. I really love things that capture youth since a lot of mine wasn’t pleasant. The ups and downs are natural for them and it will be ok. They have friends and their city.
Usually I abhor the editing on most of these dramas (these = overwhelmingly the BL genre tho that recent japanese show...love...something idk they meet walking a line was very pretty and digestible) but, if I remember correctly, it’s really good here. In fact I am positive—it does absolute justice to the story. And the writing underlines the subtlety. So much of the show is about being young and exploration and I love it. Honestly, when he was trying to imitate the instagram picture it was just...wow that’s so teenage. I was so embarrassed.
That brings me to something else wrt editing. So a lot of asian dramas are very dramatic which isn’t my favorite thing but it has a clear cultural place so it means a viewer has to adjust to differences and see the merits within an alternate scope. I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever like the dramatic music they put in. I hate those musical cues like no other. This is just my preference and it will always be. I don’t know why it’s so allurin from a creative standpoint; we know the stakes! But it wasn’t so distracting that I couldn’t continue. I think I found the whole thing extremely cinematic so the hyped up musical cues kinda threw me off.
All in all it was very enjoyable and further critiques are minor and something that time can work out like some acting but seriously thag’s mostly nothing and I saw that they had acting coaches in the credit. I think they may have been on set—I haven’t watched the doc—but that’s something people take for granted and I respect it. Seriously. Or if other shows do these ones actually understand how to get their characters from point a to b.
Acting is such a cool art and comes in different atyles but I feel like our responses to it are so intuitive so the deliveryno matter what method has to embody life qualities. I could go on about this but I won’t cause ambien but even if there’s a political approach to acting (Brecht) it is stil rooted in life. For ONCE the cast and crew fix things accordingly (this isn’t just a BL problem but I also wouldn’t classify this as BL I guess gorl IDK im going thru it)
I’m more critical than usual and I’m going through a major artistic crises lol so it was nice. There’s a lot of unrest in Thailand so I won’t forget that people are struggling. I think something that moght get people to look mght is how beautiful it looks and that brings attention to artists. Artists who represent their country, or believe in something, or care and maybe introducing people to Thai film. Art can give us access to whole radical landscapes.
Even tho i’m in favor of pirating always I feel that contributing monetarily means support and it’s a big thing for me (which is why I so often opt out because I don’t support something but should have access to it bc LIFE) and the point is yo contribut and encourage, right? Which is why I believe in sharing, it isn’t capital that drives us to something, we get attracted to the merits and contribute with capital but that means a level if absolute respect back. This means that while I can’t really pay a bunch for the episodes I think I will buy two. Which never happens.
Lastly this is probably one of the worst yrs in existence. I break down crying when I think of lives lost and black people abd being inside and just the pressure of it all. I wouldn’t say escapism tho that has merit but we get to see a fun youthful world that is just missing. It’s missing. As much as I love contemplating on the absurd, theres solace in watching people go about without external pain cementing them

hey idk if you’re still taking drabble requests, but if so how about sakura from dr desperate during a class trial (since she’s always picked to spend the entire investigation time guarding the body she probably wouldn’t have time to go the bathroom beforehand, and the trials can get really long)
((Thank you anon, you knew the girl after my own heart! 💛 I hope you enjoy this! My memory's a bit hazy on the order of the early trials and I didn't want to get bogged down with extra details, so I kept it vague. I enjoyed writing it though! Also once again, it broke my under 1,000 goal. I guess I should have made it 2,000 since that's what all of these keep hitting lmao ))
A body's strength is only half the battle. Strength of the mind is just as important. My mind is strong, and my willpower nearly unmatched. I will get through this.
Yes, this was merely another test of her abilities, and she refused to fail. She wouldn't lose when there was so much more at stake.
When her core was already so tight, so firm, any minor distension was noticeable. The waistband of her skirt was crushing her bladder in its coil, every breath tightening the cinch. She was grateful that the podium hid her abdomen from view, spare the peers on her left and right. Luckily, those few were also too busy to pay her any heed, each focused on the ongoing debate in front of them.
The debate. Yes, she had to focus on that. One of their peers, their friends had died today, and she could not allow her soul to rest without finding out who the killer was. If they didn't choose correctly, they were all doomed. Her swollen abdomen may be screaming at her, but her righteous anger at the injustice of this situation screamed even louder, and she held her stance, peering at Naegi as he kept speaking.
He has been quite skilled in our past debates. Surely this will not take too much time, as long as he has a decent hunch.
She herself had her own hunch, but there was no point in interrupting now. All who stood on this floor deserved an equal chance to speak. Listening calmly was far more productive than shouting over one another and delaying the process.
Another wave of pressure rammed through her, and she felt herself begin to sweat from the strain of remaining in position. Tickling beads of liquid, rolling slowly down her back, or dampening her hairline. Her thighs were still apart in her usual stance, and that distance didn't help ease the desperate throbbing between her legs. Delaying the process. This whole incident today had delayed her...
She had never exactly asked to be appointed bodyguard (in the most literal sense). It had just been the duty expected of her. Yes, she was arguably the most capable, and with her strength and strong moral compass nothing would happen to their fallen comrades, but it...wasn't the most convenient job. Standing in one place for hours at a time, especially when she was called into action suddenly, without any prior warning, could make for some unfortunate circumstances. The fact that she was always stuck next to Mondo as well only made things worse.
Yes, on some levels she respected him, but he was also hot-headed and had far too large of an ego. He loved to tease his peers, especially for needs he considered 'weak.' So she'd had no plans of giving him the satisfaction, even if it would have given her the chance to leave before the trial had started.
Besides, leaving her post, betraying her duty of protecting their fallen comrades, who were often mutilated enough already, would have been a disgrace, spitting on her very honour. If anything had happened to their sacred corpses while she was gone, she couldn't have forgiven herse-
"Hey, why are you pointing at me, Naegi?!? Sakura looks pretty suspicious!"
She'd been too lost in her thoughts to place the voice, but now she was all too aware of the cluster of eyes set on her. She wasn't usually the type to feel flustered under pressure, but in this moment, it was difficult to shrug off the scrutinizing attention.
"Wh-What?" She shouldn't have stuttered. She never stuttered. Fighting to summon a glare, she cast it over everyone in the room. "What exactly are you accusing me of?"
"I said you look suspicious!" Naegi tried to interrupt their peer, but they brushed the puny boy off and continued. "See, look how badly she's sweating! I think she's shaking too! She has to be the killer!"
The same moment that the accusatory finger lunged to point at her, all of the water and protein shakes in her bladder seemed to lunge for the exit, plummeting with such a vicious sensation that she found herself gasping and flinching to press her hands against the podium. Adding pressure against the wood and ducking her head was the only way to ride out the wave without grasping herself, every muscle tensed as tightly as they would go.
I have the strength of a dam. I can hold an ocean back.
That thought didn't ease the throbbing pain, and she had to force herself to straighten back up, even as she moved her legs to finally press together behind the podium. Her accuser was right, her body was trembling. A structure that should have been solid, unshakeable, and she was quivering like cherry blossoms in a storm.
"I'm not...not..." Damn it, she could barely think clearly enough to speak in her own defense, every ounce of her mind occupied with keeping a different kind of defense up. One that was rapidly weakening. Every breath brought fresh, burning waves through her, forcing her to pant. All of those years training, and they hadn't prepared her for this...
"Naegi's right, she's not the killer! Sakura would never do that!" Aoi's voice cut through the chatter for a few seconds, the only sound that could distract her. "Sakura, what's wrong?" It was then that she was aware Aoi had turned her focus directly towards her, and her own face blazed hotter than the sun.
"I..." How could she make such a shameful admission in front of everyone? She would rather d-
No. That is no longer a simple expression here.
It could be a very real consequence of her actions. Not just for her, but for Hina, and the others. With that perspective, it would be even more shameful to hold her pride as of higher importance than their safety...
"Sakura? Come on, work with me here! Naegi and I can't defend your good name if we don't kno-"
"My apologies, dear Hina...I should not be keeping secrets from you, from all of you, during such dire circumstances." It was extremely difficult to keep her voice steady while her body waged a war, but she was determined not to whimper, not to stutter again. If she was going to lose her dignity here, then she would. With dignity. "The truth is...I am in dire need of a restroom." She couldn't bring herself to look anyone else in the eyes, only glancing at Hina with the slightest smile she could muster. It vanished a moment later, when she was forced to grip the podium against another wave.
"I apologize for the interruption. Please continue the debate, Naegi." It was hissed through gritted teeth, and she couldn't see his reaction as her hair fell into her eyes, clinging to her face in sweaty strands.
"Hold on!" Aoi piped up, raising her hand. "Monokuma, if it's this bad, can she take one of those court recesses real quick!?! Just, like, a couple minutes tops!"
The ursine demon only cackled, clapping his paws together. "Hell no! No one leaves this room under any circumstances, no matter how silly! You think I would actually trust you kids with the oldest excuse in the book!?! I'm not that stupid, ho-ho-ho!"
"But-"
"No buts! Those are the rules! And if you break them, you know what happens...~"
The swimmer was too good to her. Much too good, considering they barely knew each other...Fighting back a grimace, she glanced over at Aoi again, hoping she sounded less grim than she felt. "It's alright, Hina. Don't concern yourself with my fate. Our...ah!-priority is finding the killer. Focus on that."
"Hhh...I guess you're right..." Aoi mumbled, tapping her fingers together. "But don't worry! We'll finish this trial super fast, and then you can-"
"No!" She'd meant to object to Hina's statement, but at that very moment, a wave of pain finally broke her control, the first squirt of urine gushing out to wet her underwear. Cringing, she squeezed her thighs together and hunched over, although it barely relieved the pain. "Hina, do not rush this for my sake! The fate that befalls me is nowhere near the risk that will befall you if we get the vote wrong." It was growing even more difficult to speak, every word plagued by the agony overtaking her body. But she had to make the girl understand. She had to be clear.
I will not let my own needs overtake the needs of the class.
There was only one course of action. One that was about to happen any moment anyway. Her control was already slipping further, tiny leaks filling her undergarments no matter how tightly she clenched. Feeling her eyes begin to water from both shame and pain, she closed them, hunching against the podium and slowly parting her legs to gain a more balanced stance. Her body was already weak, and it needed no further coaxing to relax completely, her shoulders slumping as she laid her head against the wooden surface.
It started like the warm summer creeks she used to see in the woods, flowing into her clothes and running along the skirt to caress her legs in slow, meandering paths. But within mere moments, it picked up speed, and soon the very waterfall she used to sit under was gushing between her legs, pattering and splattering onto the floor. The sound was akin to thunder in the otherwise silent room (or perhaps it wasn't silent. She only knew that she was trying to block out her surroundings with meditation). The puddle was surely growing, seeping towards her shoes, and when she opened her eyes to check, Hina was stepping back, trying to avoid the flood reaching her own podium. That inconvenience only made her skin burn hotter, and she glanced away, choosing to stare at the floor as ragged pants choked out any attempt at an apology.
As humbling as this experience was though, she couldn't ignore the blooming relief in her chest. Denial often resulted in the most fulfilling rewards, and this event was no exception. To finally empty her bladder after all of that suffering, even in such an inconvenient place, was nearly a high. Being a beacon of strength all the time was exhausting and tense. The chance to unwind, to revel in weakness for just a moment, was almost relaxing, and she found a long sigh escaped her lips as the stream began slowing down. Without the additional force propelling it, the weakest streams once again chose to cling to her legs, a comforting heat in the cold courtroom.
Like most heat though, the warmth was fleeting, and as she finally finished relieving herself, that chill began to seep into her bones, accompanied by the stunned murmurs around the room. Shock. Open disgust. Judgement. Confusion.
Mocking laughter, barking and loud, from the beast in the chair. A gavel pounding the surface in unbridled glee. "You actually pissed yourself! I thought I'd seen it all, but here we are, fwupupu!!!" More laughter. When the creature spoke again, he was nearly wheezing. "Well, I guess when urine trouble, there's only one way out! Get it! Didj'ya'll get it!?! Ho-ho-ho!!! Hee-hee-hee!!!"
"Sakura..." Hina stepped around the podium and the puddle, navigating until she could put a slender hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay? Don't worry, it's not a big deal! Why, just last year, I was at a swim meet, and the locker rooms were, well, locked! And I totally-"
"HEY!!! GET YOUR BUTT BACK IN YOUR OWN SPOT, OR ALL OF YOU WILL HAVE HELL TO PAY!" Monokuma screeched, bashing the gavel against wood until she could feel a headache begin to form. "JUST BECAUSE THAT ONE AMUSED ME DOESN'T MEAN WE AREN'T STILL IN A TRIAL! DON'T WASTE TIME!!!"
Clenching her fist at the nuisance's words, she forced a thin smile, nodding her head for the girl to leave. "It's alright, dear Hina. Let us finish the debate."
"Okay..."
With Aoi back in her place, and the urgency of their mission back in the forefront of their minds, she took a deep breath, crossing her arms back over her chest. It was difficult not to shudder at the sopping texture clinging to her thighs and bunching up under her skirt, but her focus couldn't be spared right now. She had to give all of her attention to Naegi as he began speaking again, listen carefully to the interruptions from other peers. They had to find the killer, and soon, before Monokuma became bored again.
Aoi was still looking at her, she noticed. Every few minutes, when the girl thought she wasn't paying attention. There was...such pity in those glimmering eyes...
You need not pity me, dear Hina. When it comes to your safety, and everyone else's, I would make any sacrifice necessary. Whatever is needed to protect those kinder and stronger than me...

Full musings on Infinity War
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: I'm just waiting for your thoughts on Thanos. I know there will be thoughts.
Ha, there are thoughts indeed. I was thinking of recording a video about it, but my mic seems to be messed up from the journey, and Griffin’s mic picks up everything...
Alright, fuck it, I’ll just write everything I was thinking about Infinity War, because overall I’d call it a frustrating viewing experience.
FULL MOVIE SPOILERS are below the cut, so you have been warned.
Very warned.
Okay then, let’s get into it.
I want to be able to have a neatly packaged thesis statement of “I did/didn’t like it,” but I do think my dissatisfaction with it is a bit more nuanced? Like, I was viscerally annoyed sitting through Ragnarok, and a lot of that were thanks to the expectations I had going into it. Here, I kind of didn’t care that much and didn’t read spoilers for that reason. Griffin was super hype to see it, I knew Lindsay Ellis didn’t react favorably to it on Twitter, and those two things alone were my only basis for any expectations.
I tend to have my mind wander think, “am I liking this?” during a movie screening. Had I been asked during this one, I couldn’t have clearly answered at all, at least not until the very end. There were some jokes and dialogue I laughed at, the action pieces always felt earned by the context, though not necessarily incredibly engaging. It was a mixed bag, maybe, but it was more just me kind of nodding along at the direction. Not in a “cool” way, but more a, “okay here’s what they’re doing now.” It became very obvious Thanos was going to get the all stones this movie, and equally obvious that it was not going to be fully resolved, so it was really the question of how and where the final action piece would fall.
Gamora’s death was some bullshit. I sort of felt like it sucked out the emotional tension, since this is just big purple dude from space beaming in with stones who doesn’t have any direct connection to 98% of the characters. But even more than that, I was having trouble understanding what they were going for there at all.
I didn’t see GOTG2, though I want to. However, I do know about the familial dynamics with Gamora and Nebula and Thanos. I think Gamora giving up the soul stone location to save her was seeded, at least from what I understand went down. And frankly, I can even track Gamora kissing Peter given the stakes, given she asked him to kill her, and so on. What loses me was why they painted her death as a sacrifice of Thanos’s, because it’s 100% clear this guy is an abuser to her and Nebula, and then even backing out of this, he’s 100% incapable of empathy, which is why his solution to ~famine~ is a glove that can literally do anything (like...you know...make resources more plentiful or increase education about birth control or something), and his solution is still “equal opportunity genocide.”
So that Gamora was explicitly shown to us to be someone he loved to get the soul stone sends all kinds of really dangerous messages, and also does it banking on the believability of his philosophical commitment to thinning the herd. Except that philosophy itself falls apart with minor scrutiny. His planet fell apart because of thin resources, so he can extrapolate that to the universe? And he really believes just arbitrarily murdering half the population would do anything, without addressing birth rates, or power structions, or anything at all?
It was just so, so, so weak as a motivation for him. And I’m absolutely flabbergasted critics are seriously comparing Thanos to Killmonger as two villains with “understandable” motivations. These are two massively different scales of understandability, right?? How is there any basis for comparison other than to say, “wow Thanos is a shitty villain after Killmonger.”?
The problem is, Thanos was the closest thing we had to a movie protagonist, since it was his journey. But there’s nothing remotely sympathetic about what he’s trying to accomplish, or particularly logical, and to have him be the one to “sacrifice” to get there was like...for what? Otherwise we wouldn’t have believed how hardcore he was?
I think how much this movie lands for someone is going to fall entirely on their view of Thanos. I wasn’t impressed and I don’t understand why this is the guy they built towards, and specifically him and the infinity gauntlet.
Because yeah, that damned gauntlet. I really can’t stand unclear power scaling like that. The gauntlet can do anything with all the stones in it, but minus two of them, Dr. Strange can go toe-to-toe with Thanos? It’s just...the fights became increasingly irrelevant because Stones of Random Power so things happen that need to happen just because. They are one of the most profoundly uninteresting plot devices I can think of.
Oh also? Hands down the worst moment was when Starlord was so full of Manpain about Gamora that he ruined Peter Parker and Tony Stark almost getting the gauntlet off Thanos. Just utter horseshit there. Not to mention even going with the mapain, he could have just shot him in the face or slit his throat instead of punching him, and then boom, movie over.
Idk, that moment, along with Gamora’s death earned heavy eyerolls. There are so many more inventive ways to have those guys lose a fight to him, or to have Thanos obtain the soul stone, and I don’t see her dead body being the necessity for any of them. Especially with the soul stone. Maybe Thanos creates some kind of illusion using the reality stone where Gamora thinks she has to get the soul stone in her possession to save Nebula, and then Thanos is able to take it. Idfk. Just...why this?
(Also the Guardians felt super off to me. I know stuff happened in GOTG2, but it seemed obvious they weren’t being penned by their usual writer.)
I do want to address the darkness of this movie. I got one ask saying it was acedia at its finest, and another saying that no, the thesis of the movie was that every life is important (Steve says this to Vision) and we fight for something saving or whatever. I lean more with the acedia anon.
If anyone is reading this and doesn’t know the spoilers, the movie ends with Thanos, having assembled all of the stones, snapping his fingers and killing half of the universe. The finger snap itself is mentioned as the threat and how easy it’d be fore him to do it at least 5 times, so it was certainly seeded. Then, we get a lovely sequence where we watch half the Wakandaans turn to dust, T’Challa among them, along with half the Avengers: bye bye Sam, Bucky, Elizabeth Olsen, every Guardian of the Galaxy except Rocket, Dr. Strange, and Peter Parker. That’s after already watching Vision, Gamora, Loki, and Heimdall get killed by Thanos.
Like yes, everyone knows this is not going to stand. We are shown about two minutes before this charming sequences Thanos going back in time because he has the time infinity plot device, and we also know Avengers 4, GOTG 3, Black Panther 2, the next Spiderman follow-up, and so on are in the works.
Oh except children in the audience. There was a BAWLING 7-year-old outside the theater, and what do you tell them? “Don’t worry, it’s just the Russo brothers doing it because they can, and they want to seem edgy and bold”? It’s not bold. It’s kind of the biggest cop-out possible, because we know nothing is permanent now, it’s probable everyone who died in this is brought back (...maybe Loki or Heimdall or all of the Asgardians are exceptions? maybe?), and it was basically just an exercise in the limitations of the movie medium for comic narratives.
But thank god we got to watch all of our heroes horrifically die with everyone reacting to them. Like good god, the very young Peter Parker had to be given time to freak out about how he feels sick and doesn’t want to go? What was the point of that? Or was that the reserved take, and in the full cut there was actually a death scene for Princess Shuri too or something.
Speaking of Shuri and Wakanda, I do want to say that I think there’s an element of this that’s in poor taste. Black Panther is *still* airing in theaters, and there have been how many pieces coming out about the importance of representation and what Wakanda meant to so many viewers. So the fact that it was in Wakanda when we see half the population dying... Like, I do like that Wakandans were given an instrumental role in end-of-the-world stakes. But then that meant that yeah, you’d watch half of them crumble to dust in that sequence. Yes, you know that half of San Diego is also crumbling to dust, but it’s a little more viscerally upsetting to see it.
And honestly, why couldn’t T’Challa have been a living Avenger in this? Why was his death particularly necessary? The body count of black characters was kind of high across the board when you take into account Heimdall and Sam (and out-of-universe Zoe Saldana as Gamora. Oh and then Nick Fury in the post-credits. Also is Valkyrie implied to have been with the half of the Asgardians that lived, or did she die off-screen? Cause I’m not sure I imagine her *not* fighting back.). I’m not sure if this is a point of contention with viewers for the most part, but there was just something about T’Challa’s unceremonious death alongside half his country where you’re like, “seriously, why is this what they’re showing now?”
Because guess what? It wasn’t an effective ending! We KNOW it’s being turned back, especially given the utterly ridiculous volume of deaths with key characters who we know have movies. You know what would have been a better ending for this? Just...Thanos snapping. That’s it. “You should have aimed for my head. *Snap*.” Cut to black.
There was no reason I can think of to have been this explicit about everyone’s deaths when they’re just temporary anyway. “Hey kids, enjoy your horror-free entertainment!” Especially Peter Parker’s death. That really, really felt like acedia at its finest.
Because part of the thing with acedia, as Gretchen has so eloquently explained, is that it’s a dark kind of writing where nothing really matters, bad shit just happens. And boy if *that* wasn’t the actual thesis statement of the movie.
Steve said that no, you save every life because that’s what you fight for. But that point was heavily undercut multiple times in the film. There seemed to be countless situations where a character had to either kill or consider killing someone they loved for the greater good (or not saving someone they loved, or giving Thanos keys to something really bad). It was utilitarianism vs. the power of emotional connection, and it was constant. Frankly, it was pretty cohesive.
Except magic man got magic gauntlet and did magic thing, so choice was rendered completely useless.
All told, once this movie is put together with Avengers 4, it’s possible there is some message that works to this end. But right now we essentially got half a movie based around an incredibly weak motivation that we know is all going to be back-dialed anyway. But thank god we got to traumatize kids in the name of ~boldness~ in the process.
Loki gave over the Tesseract but tried to kill Thanos, and got punished for it. Peter pulled the trigger to kill Gamora like she asked and got punished for it. Gamora tried to stab herself and got punished for it. Gamora tried to save Nebula at the cost of an infinity stone and got punished for it. Trying to save Vision didn’t work. Trying to not save Vision didn’t work.
Nothing mattered. Except apparently Thanos “sacrificing” Gamora. Wow, what commitment to bullshit philosophy and a laughable “solution” to a problem that is at best, temporary in nature.
This was a downer of a film, and not in a way that made me interested to see the resolution. I just want this out of Marvel’s system. It was event comics writing at its worst, and using an event that never could have really worked for this medium with this schedule of releases.
So okay, fine, my thesis statement is: I really didn’t like it. The longer I think about it the more annoyed I am. Had it ended five minutes earlier, I would have had major issues with it, but it would have been more of an “...okay then” kind of thing. Gamora got the shortest end of the stick, from what I can see. But nothing really came together, and the climax with the RANDOM EVIL ARMY was just going through the motions.
Honestly? If I had to sit through this or Dark World again, I’d choose the latter in a heartbeat. That was a mess and often boring in places, but at least the climax was inventive and fun, and there was lip-service to character development. This was just...an event. Can’t wait for it to not matter at all!

DCOM Rankings #55: Buffalo Dreams
I’m going to consider this movie the OFFICIAL halfway point of my DCOM review journey. I cannot believe I have this many more to go....but at least it’s overall a fun ride!
So I’ve never seen this movie but I have heard about it, and I’ve heard that people overall love it. So here’s what I think.
I really liked it too! Now...it has some minor problems and one big problem, so it MIGHT not be A level, idk we’ll see. But I just wanna say that this movie really reminded me of my trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon severa years ago, because there were a lot of Native American descendants and tribes selling gorgeous turquoise and beaded and other hand-made items. I ended up buying a really neat bracelet and a backpack, which I still use to this day. It’s been so great on hikes and walking trips! If I’m not using technical terms here, I apologize. I don’t mean to offend anybody.
Anyway, I want to get the problems of this movie out of the way first, as always. The BIGGEST problem is the main character Josh. He’s not the best actor in the world (although better than some) and his character isn’t really exciting or interesting. I’m honestly much more invested in the side characters. BUT I can see how the interaction between Thomas and Josh became more interesting over time. It’s just that the only thing somewhat interesting about Josh was the fact that he likes to bike.
The minor problems are more just continuity and minor details. We didn’t get to see the antagonist get what he deserves at the end. I wanted to see him “win” the race, only to realize that no one cared anymore, not even his friends. I know they did this but I wish we could actually see him win first.
Lastly, I don’t really like when a movie shoves a particular message in your face, even if it’s a great message. I want the message to come secondary to the characters and the story. Otherwise it just feels like a giant PSA, which would be completely fine if that’s what I wanted to watch! But I want to watch an entertaining movie. I hope this doesn’t make it seem like I hate the message of the movie. I honestly believe that protecting what’s left of the original land used by native Americans is extremely important, especially when we white folks just waltzed in and stole everything. Like my god.
Anyway, these are just minor faults and don’t have a huge bearing on the movie’s score.
So, the good things. Like I said, I love the movie’s message, and I love the representation in this movie. I cannot comment on its accuracy unfortunately. So...I hope that at least most of it is. I know the grandpa may seem a bit stereotypical at least to me. But I also appreciate Thomas as a side character who didn’t want to believe in that stuff and didn’t really care. That’s what made him interesting to me, because he was working on the Buffalo preserve and still protecting sacred land even though he said he didn’t care. Clearly he cared about something.
The movie I think did get better as it went on, and it gave more and more insight to the culture of the Navajo tribes specifically. Which I can really appreciate. Seeing the main character learn and grow was pretty neat, even for a boring character, so I’ll give it props. From the moment the grandpa made the two boys spend a night in the woods, the tone of the movie shifted for the better.
I like the added drama with Thomas’ parents and sister. I think it gave us a different reason to sympathize with the family and see that people of all cultures can have differences like the ability to use sign language. The antagonists, while also boring, did raise the stakes very well and gave us yet another reason to sympathize with the Navajo characters. I’m sure there are people who think and act just like those biker boys.
Overall the story was about one boy who learned to respect and embrace an unknown culture, and about another boy who learned to accept where he came from and be proud of it. At first I honestly wanted Josh out of the movie but as the movie went ok I could see how Josh and Thomas’ interactions and their partnership became very important and a symbol for unity and collaboration. Is it the best DCOM I’ve ever seen? Definitely not, but it has a lot of good elements to it and it got my full attention by the end! It’s hard to make a movie with a message this big, and I think they pulled it off as well as they could.
I think this movie deserves to be an A level but not an A+, maybe on the lower end of the A list. If nothing else, this is an important movie to watch for its message.
Now onto one of my faves...and the first animated DCOM. See you then!

Episode 5 - “someone literally thought the word rocks and you switched your vote” - Trent
After nuObor killed Kenny, the two tribes merged onto a one world beach, where they learned they would reward a member of the other tribe individual immunity. Upon the merge, the Cahaya kumbaya continued (or so it seemed) with the returnees engineering the challenge results in their favour. Otherwise they compared notes on all the newbies, making the season seem as if it was going to be a returnee steamroll.
When Matt & Isaac won immunity, it was revealed that they would in fact attend the opposite tribe’s tribal council as infiltrators. On NuCahaya, the returnees quickly got on the same page, and given Anabel & Trent’s success in ingratiating themselves with the returnees, Dylan became the easy scapegoat vote and was unanimously sent out.
On NuObor... people were cracking. Owen, who had been sceptical of Foxx since round one, when faced with an alternative of voting out Canadian queen Lorelei, rallied the troops to get Foxx out. Though the plan almost hit a snag when Foxx accidentally made it seem like he had heard of the plan, Foxx (and the entire nuCahaya tribe) were blindsided, with Foxx being sent out the door.
OLIVIA
Kenny was literally the one I wanted to leave so woohoo! No offense Kenny but you just seemed like the biggest threat!! Whew what a relief now we outnumber them on both tribes hehe
Why y’all gotta do Cahaya dirty like that with this twist we were ROLLING
TRENT
Well this twist really sucks. I am really hoping there is 2 different tribals and not one big one. Because if theres one big one i might be screwed. If there are two and only 7 vote, then i can work with that. I just gotta put on my social hat and be everyones friends but not toooo friendly or then ill be a target. but again. i really hate this twist.
FOXX
How...how did we convince a tribe I was a minority in to unanimously vote off one of their own?  And all three of them specifically want to work with me?? These newbies gave away their chance of gaining a majority. AND I connect back with my old tribemates in the One World twist. I got to meet Anabel, Dylan, & Trent. I got drunk af on call (not really) and apparently Trent is smart but would turn on his tribemates and Dylan is nice but inactive. With this weird twist I’m thinking the person who gets voted for the most from the other tribe is an Infiltrator. With merge approaching we’ll see.
MATT
Alright so leading up to tribal council, it became kinda obvious Kenny would be going home.  Not because i put in effort to stay, but because the newbies were scared to go to rocks.  So they caved in and voted out Kenny with us unanimously. Kenny voted for me which is whatever.  It didn’t phase me at all since i knew it was coming. But It was a nice feeling knowing the other three gave up on their tribe so quickly.  With them doing so, Stoner joins our tribe and we now hold a 4-3 majority on both tribes.  So effectively we could do anything we wanted to.  I think the four of us on NuObor can work really well together. So hopefully moving forward, we can win immunity and stay strong.
OLIVIA
Upset I didn’t get immunity but we did it the fair way, terrified of the twists and whats to come
OWEN
Last tribal went rlly well, I got what I wanted, it was Gucci. I set myself up so well on this tribe to be between Leigh/Chris/Lorelei and Stoner/Foxx/Matt. I rlly worked to build trust with the newbies and it clearly paid off since they gave up the numbers and took one of their own. The only thing bothering me is that foxx, who I would want to flip on, got put in the alliance with me Leigh and chris..... But now this twist kind of comes and fucks with everything bc the original returnees tribe is working closely together ahhhh and they wanna do what they can to protect all 8 of us. I’m starting to feel torn because on the one hand I rlly like talking to olivia jess and Isaac. And matt. Like we had a ton of fun on call last night and I don’t wanna turn on those people. But on the other hand I really want to prove loyalty to chris O, Leigh and Lorelei. And I don’t rlly mind Trent and anabel either.,,, so it’s tough. I agreed to give Isaac and Matt the top positions on the lists, but then I went and told chris o and Leigh that the returnees were working together and that Matt would probably be immune. Leigh mentioned that ‘it would probably have to be lorelei’ then.... which got me rllll shook :( I don’t want any of those three out this round and I have no clue how to do this. To be honest, I’m hoping that the top two vote getters leave and we can send out Dylan and the newbies can take out a returner, hopefully michael or something. That’s best case scenario for me rn.... but I have no idea what to expect with the twist I spread myself too thin again :((( like always. But the difference this time is I generally like almost everyone and pretty soon I’m going to have to make some choices. What I need to focus on is, once merge come, where will I have the most options? I don’t want to stay returnee strong forever. I won’t!!!!! But I will protect olivia jess stoner Isaac and matt for as long as I can....
JESS
So this whole twist has been a wild ride. I REALLY wanted to be safe so I could set myself up a little bit here with the newbies and such. However, I also didn't want to be the one who pushed for my safety when no one else was. It's just a bad look and it's messy. I just HATE that i'm going to be forced to show my hands here. It's way too early to make a move against the vets. I'd be out-numbered and I'd lose Michael's trust. On top of it all..... I don't have a solid enough relationship with the newbies to fall back on. All of my interactions with them have been very surface level. PLUS, attempting to murder one of my "own kind" will give them an excuse to come after me before any of these newbies. It's almost USELESS for me to vote with Trent and the gang when both Anabel and Dylan RARELY talk game to me. I do feel bad for Trent though because I do want to work with him. I do also see how this move would help me in the long run. The vets are dangerous and there are a few REALLY dangerous vets in this game. I just don't know if I'm willing to shake things up at my expense this early in the game... BUT I may never get as good as a chance to get someone like Olivia again.
OLIVIA
Trent came to me and said he thinks we have a really strong relationship and it’s like oh honey I’m so sorry I did not mean to lead you on but we’re just friendly we’re not ride or dies and now he’s sorta bagging on Jess TO MY FACE who is my number one in this game and ahsjshsjab. But maybe I should keep Trent around as a side piece if he trusts me 👀🧐 but I gotta tell my alliance what he’s saying bc I don’t trust him whatsoever so I’m just copying and pasting everything he sent to me to my alliance with Foxx, stoner, and Jess lmao and I’ll probably tell Isaac later
OWEN
honestly/???? this twist turned out to make things a liiiil better for me than I was expecting. first of all, matt is safe which is good af and so is isaac. instead of having to deal with 8 votes due to infiltrator, there are only 7, which means my vote has more power bc majority is 4 instead of 5 yeehaw. but the fact that it is one world raises this complexity a shit ton and also the stakes. i know i need to be more careful with what I say. that being said, i was in no way careful with what I said tonight and basically told chris o. everything sakdfjhdskj i told him that the old cahaya's worked together for the challenge, and that I wanted foxx out over lorelei but if I had to vote stoner instead i'd do that too nnnn why am i a messy bitch. I rlly REALLY dont want stoner gone, its like not beneficial for my game at all. but really lorelei leaving doesnt help me either???? voting lorelei unanimously is the easy move without a doubt, and I'm sure that's what foxx is gonna want to push for because he is in the alliacne with me+leigh+chris and is in that other foursome with (side note - i stopped mid confessional to literally go and text chris o and tell him about the jess/foxx/stoner alliance oops1!1!) stoner. so that leaves lorelei as the only person he isn't aligned with as far as i know. technically im aligned with all five of my vote options butttt fuck it i feel like stoner would help me make a move against foxx honestly. if I could get leigh on board, it'd be set bc I feel like chris o would do it based on what he told me tonight and lorelei would want to save herself. its tricky as fuck right now.... because basically all chris o has to do is run to foxx/stoner and tell them I exposed everything and I'm gone. but honestly? idc!!!!!1 :) im here to have fun and do what I want. that's whaat I keep telling myself anyways lmao but the things I want hurt people I like, so where does that leave meeeee idk. if i can get stoner, chris o. AND lorelei on board for foxx and somehow keep it a secret + convince leigh??? then i'm rockin and rollin. ill do damage control with the vets later.... lolol i dont rlly care if michael is mad at me but jess/olivia/matt/isaac i dont wanna do dirty :((( WHYYYYY is this so hard for me?
OLIVIA
What’ll I do once the newbies are gone. I don’t want any returnees to leave. That’s assuming I make it that far which is never good to do but you do wanna think ahead. Aghhhh
MATT
woo so after tribal led to to a twist of One World.  Both tribes came together on one beach and we had to rank the other tribe in terms of who we want to get immunity.  So the 8 of us Cahaya members came together in our old tribe chat and started strategizing on who to give immunity to.  Because we both have 4 members on both tribes, we can easily submit the same list which leads to two of us getting immunity.  For the NuObor tribe, it quickly was between Stoner and myself (Stoner for being the newest member  on the tribe, me for getting voted last time/beef with leigh. ). I obviously wanted immunity but couldn’t outright say it because i don’t think it would’ve sat well with the tribe.  for NuCahaya, none of them seemed to want to give any kind of info up or who might need it.  Eventually on sunday, Olivia and owen kinda took charge of the situation and said Matt (me) was gonna get immunity and we randomize it for the NuCahaya tribe, which ended up being Issac. And another twist which we expected, is that the both of us are the infiltrators for the round.  So I’m voting with NuCahaya and Issac is voting with NuObor. As for the vote, we were discussing what would be best, and i suggested Lorelei but others thought she could be more useful later down the line.  Which means it would be left between Leigh and Chris.  And as right now, i think everyone knows i prefer Leigh to go.  I don’t care if she overreacted and apologized and whatever.  She made the big scene in the tribe chat.  She put a target on my back.  She snapped.  She needs to go.  Hopefully I can talk to Owen and make sure she could go home.   As for NuCahaya, it seems they aren’t too fond of Anabel, so it’s likely she will be voted out.  Anabel was one of the few people i knew coming into this game, but i wasn’t actually looking towards using that pre-existing relationship.  She’s a nice girl and a good player, but i came into this game hoping to make bonds and move further with new friends and faces.  So if she needs to be voted out, then so be it.
OLIVIA (this is five confessionals in a row)
I no longer go by Olivia I am now only Idol Queen
I told Isaac I had an idol and I deeply regret it he didn’t react maybe the way I thought he would but we also like cemented our friendship and ally ship tonight and he was the first one to actually talk about Cahaya members for real with me and not just like super sunshine. No one know my alliance with Matt and Owen is a thing like it’s something very unexpected and that’s kinda cool, also i don’t think anyone would expect fox stoner Jess and I to be together? And same with Isaac and I being close like I know the newbies know Cahaya are close knit for now but I don’t think any of my alliances are obvious which is cool. I’m just very paranoid and anxious this time around when I said I wouldn’t be lmao. But it’s weird like I feel that anxiety through the whole tribe like normally waiting for results isn’t too big a deal and you’d think we’d be excited about it but MAN we were buggggging out today it’s a really weird collective anxiety
https://youtu.be/9nIMZVmSrlY
Why can’t I keep my mouth shut I’m such a fucking moron like I’ve never known a dumber player than myself
WHEW but anyways I still have the idol which is WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
LEIGH
So I just used a random list generator for the immunity challenge. I figured it didnt matter what I did anyway. Them giving it to matt was no surprise for us. Ostensibly it is Lorelei or Chris S going due to me/owen/foxx/chris o. But I would feel better about splitting up Owen and Foxx. And considering I voted out Foxx in our last game I would like to keep him this time. The problem is Owen seems protective of Lorelei which may go both ways. So it may have to be Foxx.. we will see.
FOXX
There was like...a religious Coming to God experience about my being a furry last night. Like...Lorelei legit did NOT KNOW. I’m beginning to think these people did not watch my bio. My goal today is to try and take Lorelei out. I really don’t want to. It’s exhausting as hell to put so much energy in people I like to talk to just to watch them go. Lorelei is sweet and funny but I can’t sign away my chance to win this game. Chris O.  apparently is trying to get Stoner to target us but tbh I don’t take it personally bc he knows he’s in a rough spot. These newbies are being pagonged on two separate tribes and I don’t blame them for being desperate. I’m gonna need them coming along though in order to secure a better spot in the sea of Cahayas come merge time. We’ll see.
ISAAC
So I won immunity!!! We shittin' lads! This round has gone so well for me so far like? I'm nervous that this is about to go down so quickly. In other news I forged a Final 2 with Olivia and I genuinely like her so that's cool and in response to our call last night she told me she had an idol? Thas power luv xx. As for tribal these freaks wanna take out Lorelei as of right now? Like? What the fuck? Leigh is super smart and Chris is.......dead but like I don't quite understand how getting rid of Lorelei is in our best interests? But whatever - it's too early to make waves so - if that's who they want that's who I'll do. I'm trying to play this game and make myself look more aloof and/or dumber than I actually am because in the past I've shown how observant I can be and that got me sent packing but as of right now (even before I had immunity) It seems as if I'm not on anyone's radar. Which is how I obviously wanna keep it but I'm super nervous of the other vets (and Trevor/Anabel) as I know they're capable of striking first - which is fine as long as it's not on me or someone I'm working with - at the moment. But the risks of flipping right now - far outweighs the benefits because everyone on the favorites tribe has been holding their breath for so long and the first person to turn is going to get destroyed because they are (we are) looking for any reason to get rid of anyone.
OLIVIA
https://youtu.be/IrOqnZdvI6M This is how I feel about Anabel right now
If Trent idols me out honestly he deserves it
OWEN
I was freaking out lst night about what to do, then today it was like nobody even freaking TALKINNNGGGG which is so frustrating. I want to make things happen but I need other people to put in the work and rn chris stoner is NOT doing that. He's moved down a lot in terms of who I trust literally just bc he stopped paying attention the last few days. So now it seems like saving Lorelei comes with two options.... getting foxx to do stoner, or just grabbing the newbies and doing foxx. I wasnt sure if it would work bc I was beating around the bush but FINALLY chris o came to me and said leigh would be down but she wanted me to bring it up to her. So I did.... now it seems like lorelei, chris o and leigh will all be doing foxx, and my vote would make it a majority. Do I trust them all? i do. i really hope I can. I'm paranoid as fuck because if I pull off this move I get what I've wanted the whole game ever since he got into that alliance LMAOOO but.... if this blows up in my face I'm going home. It's all in now :(( and hopefully we dont swap/merge after this so I have a round to pick up the pieces. im basically saying fuck playing safe, i want what I want and I'm gonna get it!!!! i WILL be the furryslayer tonight yall, so grab the popcorn :)))) lmao watch me be corinne kaplan'd and im the one being blindsided instead. oh well, either way, someone will be shocked tonight
OLIVIA
On call with Matt and Jess and they’re talking about where idols could be and I’m just here like 👀
OWEN
KJFADHDSKJFHSDKJFSD OMG FOXX IS MESSAGING ME "oof" and I said some emojis and he said "come on dude" so literally someone told him the plan IM SCREAMING?????????? WHY DOES NOTHING GO RIGHT FOR ME AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
FOXX
I’m trying to check in with Isaac and this dude *will not* respond. I’m absolutely nervous af. I’m hoping he didn’t go rogue but it’d be a death sentence of he did. My main concern is trying to get Lorelei (RIP) to be locked in as a target. I’m panicking. Stoner’s panicking. Owen’s panicking. It’s a regular panic session.
I hope this goes as planned
OWEN
I talked to chris stoner and he said it would be better if he votes foxx so we can make it seem like foxx was being sketchy and we were more unified which I agree with and appreciate. Lorelei and Chris know that stoner wants to do that I’ve been talking to foxx s little and he’s worried about Isaac but that seems it. If he knows he’s getting votes then he’s being a good liar. I guess if he doesn’t know then it’s me who is bein the good liar oop hskshsj I just want this tribal to be doooooone with ! I’m ready to move on!!!!!!! Pre tribal stress is so so so bad :( This is kind of boring confesh lmaoooo hm idk probably after this vote my closest-least trusted: 1. Chris O 2. Chris Stoner 3. Lorelei 4. Olivia 5. Leigh 6. Jess 7. Matt 8. Isaac 9. Anabel 10. Trent 11. Michael 12. Dylan 13.  Foxx Pls Carly Rae Jensen watch over me tonight
OLIVIA
Goss? IM NERVOUS AS FUCK
LORELEI
I'm very stressed Abt this tribal. Me going is very high possibility. Owen said he would vote with me , chris and Leigh but there is a chance that he could be lying. We agreed to vote foxx out but what if he found the idol and has immunity? Or what if it's his and Owens plan and I go home anyway? I'm very scared. And I know that Owen being at the ranking isn't a mistake, he's planning sth.
