Ari I'm Sokhak (Արի, իմ սոխակ)
Come hither, my nightingale
Come hither, my nightingale, leave our garden and come,
With your psalms bring slumber to the eyes of my son.
But oh, he’s crying! Nightingale, don’t come,
Tis not a deacon he wants to become.
Come hither, skylark, leave your pastures and fields,
Rock my baby gently, he’s longing for sleep.
But oh, he’s crying! Baby bird, don’t come,
It is not a monk he wants to become.
Leave your hunt and come, you brave-hearted hawk!
Tis your song, perhaps, that my son shall want.
As the hawk drew near, my baby grew quiet,
Fell asleep to war songs, his own silent riot.
I don't know about the book, but show Hawk is such a good main character and that is because of how complex and real he is. So it annoys me when people try to act like he's not complex and they try to view him through the most dense lense possible. It's more complicated than just "he's hurt Tim so therefore he's evil and deserves nothing good." You're not supposed to watch this show and walk away with the impression that Hawk is the bad guy. Because Hawk IS NOT the bad guy. That becomes even more obvious if you have read any of the interviews from the cast/creators where they discuss Hawk's character.
Hawk is a man with layers, both good and bad, just like the rest of us and just like the rest of these characters. He's definitely not a saint and YES his tactics aren't kind and they need work, but people need to stop acting like he's not also a victim who is just trying his best to survive and protect not only himself, but the people he loves too (because yes, even if you guys don't think it looks like it, he does the stuff he does to protect others too, not just himself. But that's a post for another day).
You can criticize the WAY in which he goes about protecting himself and others and recognize that it's harsh and mean without completely disregarding WHY he even needs to protect himself to begin with and erase him being a victim too. I highly recommend you guys read some more of Matt's interviews because he has given some wonderful insight into Hawk as a character.
#TalkieTuesday Howard Hawks on Buster Keaton, part of the late Peter Bogdanovich’s “One Handshake Away” podcast - thanks to Karen Katz for pointing us in that direction!
who was going to tell me theres apparently a theory that mihawk himself is a sword. i am sooooo normal about living weapons oh my god i am not weird at all about sapient weapons.
i'm gonna be so sad if they get on my case about absence but i'm not gonna risk it. i can't keep my head vertical without my vision blacking out and i can tell you what will happen to my bag and wallet if that happens on the metro
