“Sorry, I’m babbling again…” Regulus muttered, trailing off. James smiled at him.

“I like it when you babble. I always learn so much. Like, I never knew that we blink 20 times a minute, or ants don’t have lungs, or that there’s a soup made from bird nests!” James exclaimed, sounding genuinely interested.

Regulus’s brows furrowed, his lips parted slightly in a little ‘o’. James found it rather endearing.

“You mean you… listened to all that stuff? You actually listened to what I was saying?” Regulus questioned, his tone surprised.

“Well o’ course. Who wouldn’t?” James asked, cocking his head to the side rather like a puppy.

“Quite a lot of people, actually. I can tell when they’re spacing out or not paying attention. People think I babble.” Regulus said with a shrug, but James could see that it bothered him.

“Well, clearly they’re just daft.” James sniffed, and Regulus smiled.

“You think?”

“Absolutely!” James assured him, his expression firm. “I could listen to you talk all day.” He added, his face softening into a gentle smile as he gazed at Regulus. The younger boy blinked, turning away to stare at his books, willing away the blush that threatened to stain his cheeks. He cleared his throat.

“I’m sure you’d get bored just like the rest of them soon enough.”

James frowned. 

“I most certainly would not.” He protested, chin raised to show how serious he was. Regulus scoffed.

“You want to put that theory to the test, Potter?” The young Slytherin asked, and James grinned.

“You’re on, Black.”

Over the next few weeks, they met up in the library, every day, and would start talking. Or, in most cases, Regulus would start talking, and James would watch that little spark pop into his eyes as his passion for the topic grew, a content smile on his face as he listened.

Regulus was flabbergasted. This man, who seemed to have the attention span of a puppy (not to mention the eyes, personality, and charm of a puppy), had his focus on Regulus the entire time he talked. Every single day.

And he looked so happy while he did it. Like he was genuinely taking in and enjoying each and every word. Like he couldn’t wait to hear the next thing out of Regulus’s mouth.

It was incredibly endearing. And intoxicating. Regulus had never found someone who loved to listen to him before, and he didn’t plan on letting this one go.

Luckily for him, James planned on listening to Regulus for the rest of his life.

Jermie (22) : “where do I get those rollerblades?” Also “That little girl is kinda mean. It’s not Barbie’s fault the world sucks. She should punch a president instead of yelling at Barbie.”

Jalen (19) : “now I’m upset that horses don’t run the world.”

Carson : “I don’t think I understood it. Why was Barbieland supposed to be better than the real world if the Kens were treated like objects.” [we all kinda explain it] “Wait. Maggie. You feel like a Ken every day? I’m so sorry.”

Jermie : “Why did the old lady not tell Barbie she could be real? Is that something I was supposed to understand?”

Jalen : “Was that Dua Lipa? Was she a mermaid? Also, Ryan Gosling? Margot Robbie? Kate McKinnon? Dude. I thought this was gunna be bad just because it had so many big Hollywood people. But it was - god. Greta Gerwig will definitely be mentioned in my next therapy session. Can we come back next week?”

Ken : “Did you cry? I didn’t cry. It was alright.” (he definitely cried. Twice. I sat next to him.)

Caleb : “Can we get matching I Am Kenough shirts?”

Nathan : “Can I write a letter to Greta Gerwig to both thank her and ask her to never make a movie again? I don’t think I’ll survive another Greta movie.” (He has seen Little Women (2019) and Lady Bird (2017). He claims to have not recovered from either of them as well.)

I gather - legitimately - from the timing of you sending me stuff and your struggle with proper grammar that you are a child. I do not know if you are in the United States or another country but I want to take a moment to make you (and other people) aware of a ruling that just happened in the United States today.

There was already precedent for this (albeit with suicide and not school shootings) with the case of Conrad Roy back in 2014. In both of these incidences people were found guilty of manslaughter (unpremeditated killing of someone) and sentenced to jail. These two cases mean that if someone is found to have been negligent with their actions and it leads to someone’s death that person - even if they haven’t actually killed the person - will still be held accountable.

Now. You’re incredibly lucky that I am - as you called me - a hag. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I have been in fandom for many, many years. I’ve been harassed before in fandom. Hell I got harassed on my old LJ by a school mates online friend for daring to not like the person. What this means is I look at your messages and roll your eyes. I do not think I can explain to you how much I don’t give a shit about what you are saying. I - unlike I assume you (and that isn’t meant to be a zetz this is just a statement based on the fact you are spending your free time sending death threats to some random on the internet) - have an incredibly INCREDIBLY strong support system. I have been to therapy. I have so many people I can lean on if for a SECOND I feel bad. Did you see how quickly people responded to my posts? I am incredibly well liked and I know that.

But someone else might not be as lucky as I am. And you may think that you are invincible as an anon but that is an incredibly naive assumption to make - especially if your words end up do killing someone.

I have a feeling this will not reach your ears and I will wake up tomorrow, or maybe later tonight if you’re allowed more Internet time by your parents, with more messages telling me to kill myself. And I will diligently report you to tumblr and eventually block you yet again because you are not mature enough to understand yet that your actions have consequences. That not a skill humans truly will master until 15 or 16, if they care enough to learn.

So yeah. I know this is going to fall on deaf ears. I have a feeling if you are an American teen you won’t actually be able to comprehend all the words strung together because Covid stole two years of your education on top of our already broken public education programs (sorry all the teachers I know, y’all are great and I know you’re trying your best) but yeah. Maybe if it doesn’t reach this specific anon maybe there will be other teens and young adults who end up seeing this as it’s reblogged.

Your words have consequences and in the United States now that means potential jail time if your cries for someone to kill themselves end up causing an ACTUAL suicide.
