Nightwing #113 is also the 300th issue of Nightwing. Interestingly, it’s not an oversized issue, but DC does promise something special:
Since the 1940’s, you’ve seen him go from acrobat to orphan; from Dick Grayson to Robin; from Robin to Nightwing. You’ve seen him work alongside the universe’s most powerful heroes, against existence’s most sinister villains. You have seen Dick Grayson do so many things, but now, in his 300th issue, you will see him…well, you’ll just have to pick up the issue and find out. Join us for this legacy 300 milestone!
The issue is written by Tom Taylor with art by a plethora of artists, along with a back-up tale by Michael Conrad and Howard Porter, and another brilliant cover by Bruno Redondo.

One year ago we got Batgirls #14 and my mind still thinks about the issue. Conrad, Cloonan, and Case delivered something truly special.

Michael W. Conrad's Gray Son back-up story would be such a good little arc if it weren't crammed into two back-ups. Incredible how stories pretty much used as storybording show more potential than Taylor's entire run has had.

So I picked up & read Wonder Woman #800 solely to read about Trinity. Some thoughts:
I love her.
I love Jon & Damian as her bickering big brothers and how she sasses them the way only a little sister would.
The art is fucking gorgeous.
It’s way too early to tell but from what I’ve seen so far, I think I like her personality and how it feels unique, like she’s not just a copy & paste of Diana, Donna, Artemis, Nubia, Yara or Cassie. That being said, I can see a couple possible paths for her to have a character arc and I’m intrigued. My thoughts on Tom King are for another time but whatever happens, I hope DC doesn’t interfere with this the way they did the end of his Batman run.
So…Trinity has a Father. On the one hand, I am disappointed. I’m not surprised; as much I want it, I highly doubt DC will ever give her a girlfriend in main continuity and I can live with that. Given that Trinity exists at all, her age and how far set in the future her story is, it was highly improbable that she came into being any other way. I just think it’s boring and wish she’d been sculpted from clay like her mother. If she has to have a dad, it has to be Steve Trevor. And if it’s Steve Trevor, I hope they make him interesting again or kill him off immediately. That may sound harsh but I’m tired of the mediocrity.

Out this week: Boris Karloff’s Gold Key Mysteries #1 (Gold Key, $5.99):
I spoke with several of the creators behind this resurrected Gold Key title earlier this year when it was on Kickstarter, and this week it’s making its way to comic shops. Michael Conrad, Steve Orlando, Craig Hurd-McKenny, Sergey Nazarov, Jok, Kelly Williams and more contribute to this new anthology spotlighting the horror icon.
See what other comics and graphic novels will arrive in stores this week.
