I watched Goncharov 2 so you wouldn't have to

I love seeing Goncharov have this weird renaissance on tumblr. It’s like when we all decided to get collectively obsessed with Dracula and the Epic of Gilgamesh. but did you know there's a sequel??

granted it's pretty obscure, like Eighties Bulgarian Treasure Planet levels of obscure, but you can actually watch the whole thing on YouTube for free. I can't even find the original poster, just this shitty DVD cover from Amazon:

the movie starts with a weird, pointless nightclub scene with a ton of characters who get shot dead and are never seen again. it went on for so long I genuinely started thinking this was a Troll 2 situation, where somebody slapped completely unrelated movie's name on this for free clout; but no, this is actually supposed to be a sequel! the plot is that Goncharov's brother, who is also called Goncharov, just wants to sell flowers in Milan but his uncle Vladimir Espinoza (lmao) finds him and drags him off to fight a Galician crime lord named Iago for reasons that aren't clearly explained (and shamelessly rip off the Rocky training montage while they're at it). His Designated Love Interest™ is “Marina”, (imagine a Costco knockoff of Sofia with way more cleavage), whose job is to get kidnapped a lot. She sadly doesn’t get any sapphic undertones aside from a couple weirdly horny scenes with a nameless assassin masseuse who is inexplicably called “the Algerian” despite being portrayed by a Japanese actress (yikes).

The dialogue is so truly awful I strongly suspect English was not the writer's first language. At one point Uncle Vladimir tells his nephew to “gouge out their livers like a beak of the mad kestrel”. I'm 100% certain the guy playing him was hired for his weird resemblance to Al Pacino and not any acting talent; he delivers every line like there's a gun to his head but he also swallowed 30 Ambien. Iago is supposedly Spanish(?) but played by one of the whitest guys I've ever seen (Xander Crane, who has an objectively cooler name than his actual character — dude sounds like a Bond villain). He does a godawful fake accent and keeps accenting the wrong syllables. The part where he screams GON-CHAAAAAA-ROV!! has to be seen to be believed. The mangled English also makes the torture scene unintentionally hilarious, especially when Iago asks “Are you trying to f**k me?” and creates 20x more gay vibes than every Andrey/Goncharov scene combined.

some moments (ex. not-Sofia and Uncle Vlad keep mentioning Katya, but they talk about her like she was this Goncharov's lover) makes me wonder if they started the screenplay before watching Goncharov 1 all the way through, and it was supposed to be about OG Goncharov but they had to quickly rewrite it to be his brother instead. I really hope that's true cuz it would be hilarious and explain why they made a sequel to a movie where most of the characters die at the end.

Aside from (holy shit) Val Kilmer as one of Iago's bodyguards, no one involved with this film has worked on anything else you've ever heard of. The writer isn't even listed on IMDb, and Giuseppe Stromboli's entire filmography consists of this, a kids' cartoon called Spaghetti Briefcase and a bunch of weird Italian chewing gum commercials (which are also on YouTube btw). Matteo JWHJ pops up in the credits as a producer so I can only assume he was desperate for cash.

so yeah. Goncharov 2 is objectively terrible and problematic and lacking in gay vibes or juicy Goncharov lore, but if you want something to get drunk and laugh at with your friends it's got you covered

History.

November 5th, 1056. Born out of wedlock to a stable man and young village woman, Marina was an infant to a very poor family. After her birth, it was not long until her mother fell ill one winter, shortly after a bad harvest of that year. With her mother’s death, and no prospects for land or surrounding family, Marina’s father had no choice but to give his only child away. As early as two years old, Marina had been sent to live within a nunnery, where she would eventually grow up amongst the other orphans. Upon the age of her twenty-seventh birthday, during their weekly trade within the marketplace of the larger cities— she had caught the eye of a wealthy and mysterious man. Her beauty deserving of immortality, she had fallen in love with a beast made from stories. She did not cower, instead she was entranced by his beauty and understanding of the world. In which, she would then leave the sisterhood, to follow after him. They would get married after the next two years, where she would learn all there was about the lore of vampires, and upon her wedding night, she would become as he was. Along their marriage, she would live within his home that stretched for miles outside of the country. And within that home, she would share what would soon become her new family. Henrik was a collector of many things, he had two other wives he would share a bed and home with. And alongside, a plethora of workers and followers that would capture his way of thinking. Amongst that, over time, became a coven of vampires that would live within the castle grounds. A coven that would last for centuries surpassing even his death.

August 27, 1507 the story of Dracula was a fable born of through Europe in the early centuries they walked the streets. Many of these stories were later told to be drawn from the Romanian Prince Vladimir, also known as Vlad the Impaler. What history seemed to erase, was the man who came before. Stories were spun in Henrik’s likeness, being the original inspiration for the stories to come of Nasferatu and Dracula. It told of a man not of man, who lived amongst them in his empire of blood. The stories were not far off, though their coven had expanded, the rules were founded in the ground of it. They do not turn others without intention. Should a member of the coven create a sire, they are now responsible for the vampire that bore their blood. Should the vampire turn ripper, or blood thirsty, they were to solve the problem— whether it be death or teaching— whichever the member saw fit. And if they can not, the coven will vote on their sire’s further existence. Should they live, or die? These rules had been in effect so long as Henrik was in rule of his people, but in the fall of 1507, the coven would divide upon his death. It came unexpected, Marina was now living amongst the royal courts, of noble blood that Henrik had created for those of his coven. She was married, and spoken for, but delighted in the corridors of the castles throughout Europe, when they settled amongst the English. Lady Marina whispered in royal ears, and caught the eyes of many lovers during her time within the castles. Even so much as watching historical events unfold. Henrik would die from an assemble of hunters that allowed the stories of vampires to run loose over time. In which, he died so that his coven would live. After fifty years, the coven migrated around Europe.

December 25th, 1816 among many lives Marina has changed her name as the times went on. With each, she has lived and died with new stories and people that grew to love who she was during that era. Much time had passed since Henrik’s passing, and the divide between the coven was at an all time high. Those who felt the next appointed was not fit to lead them, that Henrik was mistaken in choosing him. That they should choose within themselves. And during this divide, their morals and rules within the coven were split as well. Some factoring that they were hunted by humans, why should they live amongst them? Why not over them? While the other side, was more logical. Standing on the ground that this is what made them different from the others. That the coven was made to not live amongst humans, but to exist within their world, to strengthen and thrive. However, Marina had decided that she would go with those into the new world, and settle within what would eventually become American soil. She spent the next several years, until the year 1816, recorded in history as the United States year without summer. Crops failed. People were starving. Marina had decided to appear as an immigrant, who lost her family during the crop cycle.. only to be blessed with a Great Aunt in the rising city of New York. The Victorian era was a lot, seeing as one of her coven members had turned a man that would lead into being one of the most notorious unknown serial killers of their time. It was the first time in the last two hundred years, in which the coven had all returned, to dispose of the problem. In the following years, Marina’s cover was becoming suspicious from local townsfolk.. causing her to fake her death yet again, and disappear.

October 10th, 1939. Upon her return to New York, Marina was now known as Josephine Wilde. An all American girl, who grew up on the country side of the city. When WW2 broke out, she spent her time tending to soldiers, working as a nurse on multiple bases through the war. Unbeknownst to them, she saved many lives, those that she could, using her blood as treatment. Many men evaded death, and were able to return home to their families. At the end of the war, she would return back to America. And in doing so, meet her future husband. He was a troubled man, she knew that from the underground arenas. A place where misplaced soldiers would linger, place bets, fight— it was no place for a lady they’d tell her. But the 60’s were wild. She thrived. And in doing so, she took a broken man, and loved him. While she had lived many lives before, taken many lovers, she had even been married once— this was different. Arthur was both her entire desire, and bane of existence. They would marry only eight months after their initial meeting. And later, she would turn him just as she had been. They would spend the next twenty years together, nearly a lifetime for some, then separate. An immortal life is to be full of just that, immortality. They would live it to the fullest. And when he would stray, and at one point turn into a ripper, she would bring him back. Through methods of her own, of course. They would spend the next several decades, filtering in and out of each others lives as they saw fit.

April 24, 2033. Upon all the happenings in New Orleans, word of her husband had drifted back to her. She didn’t return entirely for him, however with the world changing and the heat of it being here— she doesn’t plan on Arthur existing quietly within the walls of it. Call it curiosity, or a thorn in his side— but she’s returned.

Notes: This work is completely inspired by TikToks by Nicque Marine. I just thought that I would take it a put a bit of a spin on it. There are scenes added in, extra dialogue, and so on; but the vary basis for it came from her TikToks. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the story!!

Chapter 1: The First Meeting

“Good morning, everyone!” greets Nezu at the beginning of UA’s weekly faculty meeting. The white rat got only a few responses from the tired staff member; however, Nezu’s mood could not be darkened, especially today as he had an interesting idea he wanted to try out. The meeting carried on as normal: going over lesson plans, talking about ideas, and such, that is until the different classes worked their way into idle conversation.

“I just do not understand how you handle your class, Aizawa,” commented Vlad King. “They get into some kind of trouble every single class.”

“It builds character, Vlad. I would rather deal with the problem children than with weaklings,” defends Aizawa in his monotone voice.

“Yes, but you must admit that it can not be good for fifteen-year-olds to be fighting highly talented Villains every week; that is not even mentioning the training you put them through.”

“How else am I supposed to train them? If they want to be Heros, they will be going against Villains like this all the time.” A few Hero teachers nodded their heads along with the statement, but there were a few, mostly non-Hero teachers, who did not seem to agree.

“That may be true, but this is only their first year. They have time to learn and grow,” Vlad pointed out.

Before a full argument could be started, Nezu decided this would be the perfect time to propose his plan. “If I may suggest a solution?” the principal did not wait for an answer before continuing, “Why don’t you and Mr. King trade classes for a few days!” The joy in Nezu’s voice caused a look to Aizawa’s face, but there was no refusing the principal so he just moved farther back into his yellow sleeping bag. The teacher of class 1B also did not protest the change of classes, and so the Great Class Switch of classes 1A and 1B began. Effective Monday morning.

The excited laughter of UA’s principal could be heard throughout the rest of the day by passing students and teachers. Oh, this was going to be fun!

During the last race weekend in Abu Dhabi I was asked to take a quick portrait of @sebastianvettel for the promo artwork for Sebastian Vettel - For One Last Time video which is now out on the @astonmartinf1 youtube account. (Go watch it, it’s great!) I knew I wouldn’t have much time to shoot Seb as his weekend was jam packed. So I had to plan something super quick. I was asked what sort of shot I thought I should take for it and immediately I knew what I wanted to take. One of my inspirations in F1 photography is @vladimirrys and his shot of Seb (second photo) is such an iconic photo of a young Seb taken years ago.
