"your top 15 favourite tv shows can say a lot about your personality!"
I got tagged by the lovely @plavoptice! Thank you!
Uhhh... my taste in TV is actually mostly just baking shows. I pretty much only watch GBBO and the various [Seasonal] Baking Championship shows since the pandemic. But I still feel like I love TV? So, ignoring baking shows, my top TV (at least for rewatchability) shows are, in no particular order:
WandaVision
Boy Meets World
Law & Order (original flavor)
The Good Place
Parks & Rec
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Law & Order: SVU (Mostly seasons 1-13, and I haven't watched the last couple at all)
Bob's Burgers
Arthur
Lizzie McGuire
Cold Case (the drama, not Cold Case Files)
CSI: NY
Community
BBC Ghosts
Mystery Inc.
I feel like I'm missing something super obvious. I mean, I also love all of the various Y2K-era weird little shows that no one else remembers, and Full House, and I'm the one person who's liked almost all of the MCU shows. But yeah. That's my list.
I tag @bebeocho, @dracosollicitus, @morethanonepage, @ryebecca, @gloryhalleloujah, @yessoupy, @idontgettechnology, @elismor, and @puzzlebean!

hello ghost au enjoyers….. i have been having thoughts recently
thinking about the future in the ghost au! i did make this au before double life and limited life existed, and i’m still mostly leaving those out of the au probably. but i’ve been thinking about the fact that, out of the living trio, only pearl returned after last life. i think that would mean that lizzie and mumbo die and don’t become ghosts! i think only pearl would become a ghost. i’m thinkin maybe something happens that could possibly relate to the whole scarlet pearl thing in double life and kind of limited life? i dunno, i don’t wanna have another breaking-and-entering murder (we already have ren & skizz) but i can’t think of anything else that would make pearl look scarlet-pearly as a ghost yk?
i’ve also been thinking about etho, i might write a short little scene of ghost etho talking to alive etho before he time travels. i think that would be fun!
i’ve also started watching bbc ghosts and .. yeah, people were right, it seems very similar to the ghost au. just overall plot and vibes and all that. it’s so fascinating seeing the similarities

A/N: Huge shoutout to the lovely @perseusannabeth who obsess over Pride & Prejudice as much as me. After very politely threatening asking  me to write more of Nessian as P&P (I’m so glad Sarah made it canon that Nessian’s relationship is Darcy and Lizzie’s) she told me about THE lake scene in the BBC version. I watched all six episodes and fell in love, so I highly suggest you all watch it too.
Also, huge shoutout to @firebirdofscythia (I stole your Azriel line lmao) and the rest of the gc for being so supportive!! Enjoy
Tumblr media
Pemberley’s Lake
Cassian was so tired it was a wonder he had not fallen from his horse, which made him realise that Azriel may have been partially right in telling him to take a break and go back to his state to rest.
Although he suspected that Azriel kicking him out of his office and practically throwing him in a carriage to Pemberley had more to do with the fact that Azriel had gotten sick of his mopey mood more than anything else.
“I shall never show my face in society again” Cassian had told a bored looking Azriel one afternoon, laying on his office’s floor as if it was the end of the world “I shall work until my eyes grow tired and my beard and hair are so long they reach the ground.”
“Stop with the theatrics brother. It is not becoming of you.” Azriel had answered as he shuffled a deck of cards.
“Theatrics!! Azriel for Cauldron’ sake I have no idea how I can keep on living after that refusal” he sighed from his place on the carpeted floor “There is not another woman alive who could hold my heart. It's lost forever. And now I shall live in regret and shame of not being enough for her.”
Azriel rolled his eyes so hard at his brother’s words it was a wonder they did not stay permanently like that.
“I shall grow old and drown my sorrows in the finest beers and wines, turning fat and bald. And after I have passed, my cursed ghost shall roam our country crying in despair over my terrible life”
That had been enough to make Azriel pack Cassian’s belongings and get his brother the fastest horse available.
“If it were not for the laws of this land” Azriel had mumbled after he had bid his brother farewell, wishing a good trip and forbidding him to appear in his office again until he had fixed that mood of his.
Breathing in the clear and fresh air of his home, Cassian was able to momentarily forget his troubled heart. But one look at the blue sky and he was reminded of the gray-blue eyes belonging to the lady who had made him, General Commander of the British Army, who had enough condecorations to fill his whole coat and who had made enemies tremble in fear when faced against him, wallow in self pity and misery.
Lady Nesta Archeron.
Her name alone was enough to make his chest tighten in longing.
Feyre’s oldest and most notorious sister, if not by her breathtaking beauty and intellect but by her ruthless and dismissive regard to the oposite sex. Whereas Feyre had surprised society by marrying before her older sisters  — and securing herself the best of matches of the season at that with his brother Rhysand, which was nothing but a Duke  — and Elain had enough suitors to fill a ballroom, the oldest Archeron did not seem inclined to marry at all. Oh she did catch the eyes of more than one gentleman  —  Cassian could vaguely reckon that she had had a long courting with Sir Thomas Mandray, although it had ended rather abruptly — but no one had been able to snare her heart.
That had been what had initially peaked his interest. He had briefly seen her at Rhysand’s wedding, attempting some small talk that was easily and diplomatically dismissed by her. He had then relentlessly engaged in conversation with her in any opportunity he could find, being it from the few occasions in which she frequented Feyre’ small reunions over tea or when he coincidentally met her during her daily walks around town to visit Lady Emerie, a modice whose popularity was raising tremendously after Feyre’s bridal trousseau and wedding dress were all designed by her.
It was not until Feyre’s first official gathering as Duchess that Cassian realised the depths of his feelings for the sharp eyed lady.
He had been watching the ballroom from the sidelines, trying to escape the mob of scary mamas who wanted to throw their daughters at him, a glass of champagne in his hand.
Rhysand and Feyre had already danced the opening song, so the floor was now free to hold more partners. Both Cassian and Azriel had danced once with Morrigan — Rhysand’s cousin and a dear friend of theirs — and Elain had enough names on her card that they’d have to wait a fortnight to dance with her. Nesta on the other hand…. she had refused all invitations, although one could not help but wonder why by the way she seemed to glow whenever a new song was played.
“Lady Archeron” Cassian had greeted, bowing deeply and throwing at her his best smile, one that usually had young ladies fainting and old ones blushing.
But not Nesta Archeron. No, she had only deigned to make a polite bow and look ahead.
“I could not help but take notice of how entranced by the music you appear to be, my Lady” he had offered her his hand “Would you do me the honour of allowing one dance?”
That had caught Nesta’s attention, and she turned towards him, her gray-blue eyes finally meeting his hazel ones.
“I do not think why I should. I am perfectly satisfied to watch from the sidelines” she raised a perfect manicured eyebrow, glancing in the corner where the mamas and their daughters were “I am sure many other young ladies would rather have my place”
Cassian knew she was lying. Knew she desperately wanted to dance, but something was holding her back.
“It is said that dancing is the best way to encourage affection. Even if one’s partner is barely tolerable” he had nonchalantly said
“I beg your pardon” Nesta had exclaimed
“The lady has nothing to fear. I will not let you suffer ridicule because of your poor dancing” he had said in a patronizing tone, if only to see that fire in her eyes ignite.
And to see her accepting his offer with a murderous intent.
They had moved to the center of the ballroom, shocked faces all around them, both from the fact that Nesta was joining the dance floor and her partner being him of all gentlemen.
Cassian had never been proved more wrong once the first string from the violin was drawn and Nesta moved. He had been sure she knew how to dance, had only said those words to get a rise from her. But to see Nesta Archeron actually dancing… it was something straight out of a dream.
Cassian knew the waltz. His mother had insisted that all three sons have the same education, even though only Rhysand was set to inherit the duchy.
However, when paired with Nesta Archeron one could not be called nothing but a simple object to display her talents. Even the most notorious dancer would pale in comparison to her.
And Cauldron, she knew that. Nesta knew she was Terpsikhore, greek Muse of music, song and dance.
What a fool he had been, what a complete and utter fool he had made of himself. His only consolation was that some good had come out of his childish behaviour.
Nesta Archeron was dancing, and when she danced she threatened to bring empires to their knees, for her beauty got inhumanly enhanced, her delighted smile sending an arrow straight to his chest.
Cassian realised he had fallen hopelessly in love with Nesta Archeron. If he was to be true with himself, he had been for quite some time, since their first exchange of words when she had all but dismissed him as a pesky bug.
And as the last note was drawn, as the whole ballroom breathlessly took in Nesta, in complete awe of her, Cassian decided he was going to marry her.
Was going to propose to Nesta Archeron right at that moment.
Using the excuse of getting some fresh air after the tiring dance, he walked them to Rhysand’s extensive and well lit garden, quiet enough that they would not be interrupted but not so isolated as to risk her reputation.
They had walked only a few minutes in the garden when Cassian declared his feelings. He all but tripped with his words, hoping Nesta could see past his fool’s act.
She had not.
She had refused his hand in the most brutal way, her words so articulately poisoned that Cassian felt himself a young boy again, desperately trying to achieve perfection so his father would dare to spare him more than a passing glance. Would not regret having adopted him into his household and given him a home.
He had uttered an apology, saying how sorry he was that his feelings had caused her such pain and disgust, reigning his temper enough to walk her back to the ballroom.
Cassian left town the same night, and had stayed in his office and headquarters training the new milicia since then, burying himself with work until Azriel grew tired of his awful mood.
Sighing, Cassian brushed his horse’s neck, eyeing the lake.
Maybe a dive in the cold waters of Pemperley would help clear his mind.
~•~
Pemberley was, in Nesta’s opinion, the most beautiful state she had ever seen. Even more than her newly married sister’s dukedom.
“However this house’s lady is, she sure is happy” Emerie commented as the head maid showed them to the music room.
“As if someone could be unhappy with this much money” Gwyn whispered back, eyeing the grand piano.
Nesta was inclined to agree, even more after having seen the library. She could not help but envy the lady. Her husband must be a very cultured gentleman.
“May I show you the external grounds? I am sure the gentleman will find it quite delightful” the head maid said, looking at Balthazar, the only men among their group of four.
“I am most grateful for your hospitality” he answered, and they promptly moved outdoors.
Their party of four had been travelling through the countryside for almost two weeks. It was as much as a vacation for Emerie and Balthazar — with Emerie’s shop the season’s current sensation and Balthazar being her current business partner  — as a time out from the ton, which Gwyn — the most required opera singer of the season — had announced to be in desperately need of a vacation from.
As for Nesta, she had always wanted to travel, but as a single woman of marriageable age without a male relative to escort her, it would have been a nearly impossible feat to accomplish.
When Balthazar had offered to escort both her and her friends Nesta had wanted to shout in delight.
Secretly, she also wished to avoid a certain gentleman, one whose heart she had mercilessly and regretfully broken.
Nesta shook her head as she walked through the garden, distancing herself from her party to think and remember.
Remember how she had enjoyed dancing with Lord Cassian.
How her body had sung and heated where his skin touched hers.
How she had found herself smiling and agreeing to take a stroll with him, using the excuse of feeling overwhelmed in the crowded ballroom.
How his smile had faded once she tore at him, throwing every hateful word his way to refuse his proposal.
Nesta had not seen Cassian since her sister’s ball, but she did not want to risk an encounter.
That trip could not have been more well timed.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she did not notice her hair getting caught in a low tree branch, ruining her intricate updo.
“No one is around” she muttered to herself as she took off the pins holding it in place “A few minutes with my hair down will not hurt”
So Nesta took each pin off, massaging her scalp as she walked in the direction of the state’s lake, the sun shining over its  clear waters.
And that is when she spotted him.
Cassian.
Cassian was at the lake.
Cassian was shirtless, dripping wet by the lake’ shore.
Nesta knew she should turn around and forget what she was currently seeing.
But she could not take her eyes off of him.
Seeing a shirtless man in person was indeed a far cry from what her imagination conjured when reading romance novels.
Especially the way the water was running down Cassian’s tanned and hard torso, all the way down his pecs and stomach — was that a six pack or were her eyes playing tricks on her? — until it collided with his pants, which were hanging so low on his hips that Nesta could not help but feel a weird sensation low in her stomach.
Her legs stopped obeying her, and she swore her knees got weak when Cassian noticed he had company.
“Lady Archeron?” he exclaimed, as if he could not believe his eyes.
“Sir!” was all she could say, feeling her cheeks warming.
Cauldron what was wrong with her? It was just a body. A very nice, very wet muscled body and—
“What may you be doing here?” Nesta quickly inquired, cutting her errand thoughts.
“I am the owner” he simply answered
“Of the lake?”
She wanted to smack herself. How could have she blurted such a stupid and rude question?
“Yes, of the lake. And of Pemberley” he answered, amusement lacing his words.
“I didn’t know. The head maid said all the family was not home— we should not have presumed—”
“I returned without prior notice”
“Excuse me, are you and your sisters in good health?” Cassian added, and Nesta dared to think that he sounded a bit nervous.
“Yes. Yes they are. Thank you, sir” she managed to answer, her eyes firmly placed upon his face and not anywhere else.
“I am glad to hear that” he licked his lips and Nesta could not help but wonder if they would be cold due to the lake’s water or if Cassian’s unbothered face meant he was not cold at all.
Was she really inquiring of how his lips would feel against hers? Against her skin? If kissing Cassian would feel as dreamily as her novel's kiss appeared to be?
Nesta hated him.
Did she not?
“I had never seen you with your hair down”
Cassian’s words took her out of her reverie, and Nesta suddenly felt self conscious.
“Do excuse me for showing myself in front of you with such an unsightly appearance” she felt mortified. To have Cassian of all people seeing her like that, hair in complete disarray….
Nesta quickly turned around, fumbling with the hair pins in a vain and desperately attempt of redoing her hair.
“It’s beautiful” she heard Cassian saying in a breathless voice, and thanked the Cauldron her back was turned so he would not see how her face warmed considerably, a small smile gracing her lips.
“Let me help you” he quietly added, and she gasped at the proximity of wet, shirtless Cassian, who touched her hair softly.
“How come a gentleman such as you knows how to hairstyle a lady’s hair?” Nesta asked, feeling his warmth on her back, a tingly sensation between her legs when his fingers brushed her neck.
“I frequently helped my younger sister, Georgiana, fix her own hair in the occasions she played a little too far from what would be deemed proper for a young lady” she felt his hot breath against her neck as Cassian laughed “She favours outdoors activities such as horseback riding, although she’s quite accomplished in arts and music.”
“Your sister sounds lovely” Nesta said, turning to face him once she felt he was done fixing her hair.
“She is my brothers’ and mine whole world. There’s nothing we would not do for Georgiana”
Nesta felt her heart warming at his words, at his devotion and love towards his family. She wondered if he would do the same with his wife.
If he would have acted the same way towards her had she accepted his proposal.
Unbeknown to her, Cassian was imagining the same thing.
He was picturing how he could have helped her every morning with her hair if she had agreed to marry him. Instead, he would have to live with this one memory forever.
He was lost in her eyes, their bodies so close they were sharing breaths and Cassian was holding back by a sliver thread of self control to not hold her against him.
If it were not for the appearance of three people — Cassian supposed them to be Nesta’s companions — he very well could have done that.
“Excuse me” Cassian abruptly said, bowing deeply and leaving Nesta alone.
Although soon her friends joined her, Gywn and Emerie bombarding her with questions seeing her ruffled state.
Their party was getting ready to depart when Cassian appeared again, having ran inside to get changed and appropriate.
“Lady Nesta!” he called before she could get inside the carriage “Please allow me to apologise for not receiving you properly just now. You are not leaving?”
“We were, sir. We have already imposed too much” she said, spine straight and looking every bit the regal queen she was.
What he did not know was that was her way of maintaining a cool exterior and not blush remembering his naked figure.
“You are not displeased with Pemberley, are you?” Cassian asked, anxiously brushing his hair back.
“No. Not at all”
“And you approve of it?”
“Very much” Nesta said softly, a dreamy smile on her face as she remembered the library “A few would not approve”
“But your good opinion is rarely bestowed and therefore more worth earning” he said, and his smile was enough to make Nesta’s heart skip a beat.
Why was she feeling in such a way, she wondered. Why did her body feel hot and strange all over whenever Cassian was involved?
“Thank you. That is very kind of you”
“I shall not hold you back any longer” he said, helping her in the carriage, his calloused hand a stark contrast against her soft one “I will call on you and I hope you can introduce me to your companions. Perhaps we may go fishing tomorrow? My property is blessed with an abundance of them”
“We would be delighted to. Thank you, sir’
After the farewells were bid and Nesta’s carriage was only a distant dot in the horizon, Cassian got inside, smiling broadly at his head maid and butler.
“You are very chipper, sir'' the old woman said with a knowing smile, the butler agreeing with her. Their lord had been mopey for quite some time now, so it brought joy to their hearts to see his mood so high.
“I had a very good evening Mrs.Pots” he declared, thinking about how he should swim more frequently in the lake.
A few miles from Pemberley, Nesta stared at the scenery lost in thought, Cassian’s touch lingering in her hand all the way back to the inn.

PARANOIA // Thomas Shelby
Chapter One // Chapter Two // Chapter Three

Description: In which the Birmingham boss finds a new ally in London and perhaps something more
Upon Tommy's return home, the bleak winter had taken a turn for the worse. Clear windows were now shivering under soft snow. The morning's milkman had delivered a frozen bottle under the frosty dawn light. Ghostly, The cold cobbled streets of Birmingham held a touch on notoriety with each step taken by the MP. Following his icy return home, Thomas Shelby had moved his family back to the working streets of their past home. At first, this request was vetoed but after a long week fighting with Lizzie more than any other member of the family, the Shelby's were back in Small Heath.
Thomas Shelby, in all of his distinction, entered the Garrison, a simple ghost of its former life, a pub in the rebuilt Small Heath. The place to avoid, as the Shelby clan had cleared it out to hold a family meeting. Among the present, there subsisted Ada, Polly, Arthur but no sign of Fin or Michael. Muttering quietly, Ada and Pol discussed plans for the newest Shelby babe. There was a comforting joy between the two women but Tommy, he was a whole mood on his own. As Fin finally broke through the doors behind him, the stoic brother only looked up to draw a cigarette to his lips.
"Fin!" Arthur's voice boomed as he pointed at the youngest brother while Ada pulled up another chair. Huffing heavily, the young boy took his place at the table. Leaning forward to address the table, Arthur wanted to know everything about the business in London.
"Come on Tom, tell us what's been 'appening in London then" Ada interrupted before Arthur could get a word out. Taking a drag of the lit bud, Thomas leant back to locate an object lodged in his inner jacket pocket. Due to the morning frost that stuck to the charcoal jacket, Tommy's shivers at the cold interior pocket. Softly, the MP plucks a small photograph of an honest woman. The delicate still graces the table contrasting the rugged face of his eldest brother.
"This is the woman-" Thomas began before Ada jumped in.
"Lucille Hughes, Tommy why are we doing business with the Hughes?" she questioned as the image was of a woman shed befriended during her time in London.
"HUGHES! This is why you TWO decided to go to London without... Wait this is why we had to come back, what did you do Thomas Shelby" Polly piped up as her gaze scattered between Arthur and the MP. Before Arthur could say anything to defend their actions, Tommy had already started chuckling to himself as he stubbed out the smoke. His mind wandered to how his sister knew more about Lucille than he did. The dirty blonde curls appeared, once again, in the clouds of his mind.
"Alright, Ms Hughes is open to discussing business with Shelby Limited, right Arthur?" Arthur sent a nod towards Tommy as his brother continued to smirk. In response, Ada and Pol both raised a brow while staring wildly at the MP.
"Tom, the Hughes will have your head if they find out you two are in cahoots," Ada illustrated to the icy blue-eyed man.
"Not me, us, Shelby Company Limited distilleries" Tommy followed up but Ada's frown confirmed his suspicions.
"Livelihood at risk" the words of the beautiful businesswoman echoed in the blinders mind like a harmonious lyric stuck on a gramophone. Thomas pierced his lips together as his mind was thrown back to leaving her office four days ago.
As Lucille walked towards the door of her office go see him out, Tommy took the time to admire the figure. Carefully, looking her up and down, the taller woman confused him. No ring. No tan line. No person. His eyes were constantly drawn back to the image of a strong working woman that resided on her bulky desk. While he was out of view, Tommy stripped the image of Ms Hughes from the desktop. His smile dropped as she turned down his business proposal. Standing immediately, the MP knew he'd have to woo and impress the woman but also look for holes in her business- her masterpiece.
"-Good day, Mr Shelby and send my regards to your dear brother." That was the last thing he wished to hear from her lips. She had sent him away without a second thought and instead of insulting him, this act had further intrigued Tommy. Unwillingly, Tommy exited the modest office into the dense space where the secretary sat fidgeting in her seat. While brushing off his long cotton coat, he zoned out to the exchanged between Ms Hughes and the younger worker until his ears perked up at "Lucille" She was sweet. The young secretary hadn't meant to call her boss by her first name in front of a potential client but instead of correcting the young woman, Lucille (a name me now knew because of that slip up) smiled and retreated to the bare main office.
"Pleasure to meet you Mrs Dennet" Quickly, Tommy plucked a business card from his wintered coat and tossed it to the fumbling woman. During his walk out of the converted warehouse, Tommy took note of the red lights that appeared as he drifted away from the Hughes. As he watched the way the red lights shifting back to a mundane position, he saw the guns held close to their chests. She has security. No. She has people who watch her movements. On Thomas' way out of London, he was constantly drawn back to the image of Lucille he had lifted from her office.
With a cough, Thomas was snapped out of the ripe recollections of his appointment with the elegant woman. Pol smirked as she finally discerned why Thomas was persistent about attempting business with the Hughes. Straightening up his suit, the MP cleared his throat before the Shelbys resumed their meeting about expansion. After three hours and two bottles of whiskey, Thomas got each of his kin on board even Michael who had shown up over an hour tardy.

I realized something wonderful today.
Did you know that you can use everything Lizzie from the Lizzie Bennet Diaries says about meeting Darcy for the first time and it would fit almost word to word to how Merlin would describe his and Arthur’s first meeting?
Ehm, allow me to demonstrate:
Merlin talking to the camera (or Kilgarah xD): as you might have heard, I recently had the absolute pleasure of meeting Camelot’s prince, Arthur Pendragon.
Tumblr media
Arthur is so obnoxious, I can’t tell if I like Camelot’s magic death penalty now or if it just seems awesome by compassion. Arthur is horrible, stuffy, unbelievably rude. He thinks he’s too good for us “common folks”, but he’s handsome and rich! Oh, dilemma, dilemma!
I just can’t probably express what an infuriating douchebag this guy is. Just because you’re rich and heir to some kind of kingdom does not mean that you’re better than everyone else! He probably uses his money to lounge around all day in 5000 dollars boxers watching BBC min-series with people he pays to be his friends, since no sane human being can ever actually put up with him. I mean what does he do with his life?
it’s official. Merlin is a romantic novel/movie and now I have the ghost of Jane Austen on my side.

Garry Jones Interview
Tumblr media
When I was younger, Garry Jones was one of the kids down my local park who was always out and about, always down for a skate, and always interested in more than just skateboarding. He contributed towards this very blog on many occasions donating footage, photos and even old cameras! His interest in photography proved to be something he had a great talent for, and now he is one of the UK's most prominent skate photographers: having snapped official shots of the Team GB skaters, and photographing some of the world's best skateboarders at Street League London and the European X-Games. I asked him some questions where he talks about photographing Tony Hawk, Jamie Foy, and of course, everyone's favourite northerner Joxa.
Those behind the camera sometimes don't get much recognition, so for anyone who doesn't know you - tell me a bit about yourself.
For sure, I'm Garry Jones - photographer from Coventry. Moved away for a few years to study my undergraduate but eventually came back to Coventry. Without sounding too much like a profile on a dating app: I'm 28 years old, and recently just completed my Masters Degree. I shoot photos of everything from beer brands to shoes but my main focus these days is working in the music industry, portraits and making album art. Saying that occasionally I get to shoot skateboarding also.
How did you first get into photography?
Not sure exactly when I decided I wanted to be a photographer, it was just always a notion I had from being a kid. Skateboarding influenced me pretty heavily: I had this Blueprint poster, can't remember the skater, but he was silhouetted doing a FS Krooked down a handrail and flashes going off behind him. I used to always stare at the poster figuring out how it was taken. My first steps into the photography world was in secondary school, using a darkroom where I learnt quite a lot to prepare me going forward.
What was your first "proper" camera?
My first DSLR was an Olympus e-410. I got it around the time I started college at the age of 16. That camera served me well: I shot my first events on it, and skate photos I was happy with. I think things got a bit more professional a couple of years later, when I jumped over to Nikon, and everything started to look a bit cleaner.
Tumblr media

Who were your influences growing up (skaters and photographers)?
Still to this day, there's not many "photographers" that really have influenced my work. If there is, it's more likely photographers that are my close friends that I work with, and they affect my work flow and style. It's skate culture, and the artists/documentarians within skateboarding, that have truly inspired me.
Ed Templeton is the first, and probably biggest influence: everything he has done with Toy Machine, to his photo books that come out on Um Yeah Art (which is Thomas Campbell's publishing company). Greg Hunt: as a film-maker, always really inspired me with his work with DC and Alien Workshop. I always thought it was really amazing and always used to try and find interviews of him speaking about his work.
French Fred and his documentation of my favourite brand Cliche really showed me what you can simply do with a black and white 35mm roll of film. Cliche really had such a cool visual aesthetic from their board graphics to the tour videos they put together, such a rad team also.
Mike Blabac too: his photography of Danny Way, and his first photo book were insane, and to this day those photos are incredible. What I liked about Blabac was the fact he could shoot a really good portrait in a studio also, and had this really nice high contrast imagery which really has influenced my work even more recently as I did a transition into more portraiture work.
Who were the first pro/sponsored skaters you ever shot?
Sponsored skater has to be Joxa, thinking back: me, you and Joxa used to head out a lot all over the place. Joxa was on Witchcraft back then, so it was always fun shooting with him, plus he's the coolest, most friendly dude. As for pro skaters: I was at NASS 2015 when the Birdhouse team came through on tour, and I had woken up a little bit worse for wear from the night before. I walked through the back entrance of the park and bumped into Jaws, shot a portrait of him with a fisheye and a flash, because I panicked and didn't have time to swap my lens. Later that day, I got to shoot Tony Hawk, which was insane, plus got to see Lizzie Armanto skate in person and she rips!
Tumblr media

Who are your favourite photographers?
Hands down, my favourite photographer of all time is Ed Templeton. I love the way he documents the world around him. To go more outside of skating, Don McCullin is a British photojournalist who has work that needs to be seen either in a gallery or in the paper layout it was intended for. He documented the rise of the Berlin Wall, Vietnam and many other conflicts but his imagery is always so strong and tells the story like no other.
I was always a fan of Lewis Baltz's work too: He explored the notion of how humans use space, the 'urban', focusing on the shape and form. It was a very matter of fact style of shooting. I have a complete obsession with anything to do with the documentation of the Beastie Boys, so Spike Jonze has to be in there. His latest book is amazing, and the Girl collab boards are so sick. Also a lot of my favourite photographers are my friends I work with, as they are inspiring people: Mike Massaro shot a photo of artist Caribou that I just love.
What format is your favourite to shoot?
Ever since getting a medium format film camera, it's been my favourite. I really love shooting 6x6 medium format, so the frame is a square. Really tried to champion and shoot more film this year: in New York I shot a load of bands with my Bronica SQ 6x6 camera and fell in love with it all over again.
I saw you on BBC Sport taking pics in the background at the UK National Champs: Was it weird to see UK skateboarding being given such a huge spotlight?
I was really fortunate to come on board with Skateboard England early on, and shoot the announcement photos of the skaters for Team GB. At that point, or maybe even before that, Neil from Skateboard England had really kept me in the loop and tried to get me on board. Saying that, Neil has been a big supporter of me shooting skateboarding, and is the nicest dude, giving me loads of opportunities over the past 18 months.
To get back to your question, I wouldn't say it was weird, I would say it was about time. There's some really amazingly talented skaters in the UK, and the spotlight was being put on them deservingly. Hopefully we get to see the rest of this journey towards the Olympics soon. Add any of the guys and girls that were in that comp: if you go on their Instagrams, you can see how much they throw down, so everyone getting that moment of coverage is credit to them and their love of skating.
Tumblr media
Alex Hallford at the UK National Championships last year
How did you end up taking shots for the European X-Games?
There's really no crazy story behind this: basically I emailed and asked. Shortly after, I got a reply saying they would love for me to come over. Just goes to show, putting yourself out there and having a conversation with someone goes a long way!
Which pros did you meet there?
I met Felipe Gustavo the first year I went along, with a few others, but to be fair to everyone, even in practice people were really focused that year. Second year I went, it was way more mellow for some reason. On the first day, I showed up after getting off of the flight and got to chill at the park and hang with Jamie Foy, who was the nicest dude. We spoke about his New Balance shoe, and his thoughts behind it while Gustavo Ribeiro was just tearing it up in the background. Kelly Hart was there judging last year's comp, which was cool as we had met before at Street League London a couple of times, so I got to catch up with Kelly again.
What was it like shooting someone as gnarly as Jamie Foy skating? Did he land everything practically first go?
At these big comps, the practice sessions are basically the guys putting their runs together: they are trying the same thing over and over again. Watching Jamie Foy just Krooked everything in sight super pinched was super gnarly, it was crazy to see that level of skating in person. On the other hand, there's Ishod Wair, who just flowed around the course adding bits on and improvised as he went: he's probably the best skateboarder in the world.
Tumblr media
Leticia Bufoni with a BS Disaster at the European X Games in Norway
What was the difference in vibe between the European X-Games and the UK National Champs?
At the X-Games, you can really tell it's a big TV style presentation, with music and competitions and loads of other stuff going on, plus there's all the other sports there. At the UK National Champs, everyone knew each other, and if you didn't know anyone, by the end of the three days you did and it was rad. Churchill was on the mic, so what else do you need?
X-Games is that finished, high-end product that's been going for years, but I got to go to Simple Sessions' 20th event this year. Simple Sessions is this great comp run by people who do it for the love of skateboarding, and it comes across. Everyone has a really good time with loads of stories coming out of it. You see amazing skating at all of these events and I guess the difference in vibe is maybe down to what's on the line for these skaters who enter.
With so many high profile photography jobs on the books, do you get any time to skate?
Once a year, me and the Ghost Town Social Gang (Andy, Lyle, Ryan, Paul and Chris), go to a far away land like Paris or Barcelona and have a week or so of skating, hanging out and beers. On the run up to that I attempt to skate, but it doesn't normally happen if I'm truly honest. Think I'm more of a documentarian these days, and see skating as more social than ever, hanging out with some of my closest mates and having a push about.
Tumblr media
Cov’s own Andrew Scott popping over a unique gap opportunity
Did you get to skate the X-Games course?
Never got to skate it - saying that, I never have my board at those events, as I have to carry loads of camera gear and clothes for a few days. I wouldn't be able to skate it anyway: they have a schedule of who's allowed on the course to practice, and they break down the days so everyone gets time without it being hectic as the courses are only small. If you had all the men and women involved skating at once it would be chaos. I think you have to have the correct wristband to skate as there are stewards everywhere checking. I'm lucky I get pretty good access, just no athlete access!
What has been your favourite park/spot to photograph?
Favourite park to shoot was the first year Street League was in London, at the Copper Box Arena. Apparently, the course was awful to skate but it had the Union Jack done in concrete so up high the photos looked great. Also I have had some good times over the years shooting the vert at Epic/Creation: normally Jim The Skin is skating, so always get rad photos. The big Herbert 3 set in Coventry with the old cathedral in the background looks epic. I shot a photo of Tez Aldersley that I still love to this day of him kick flipping it.
Tumblr media
Tez Aldersley floating a kickflip down at the Herbert spot in Coventry
Which skater (that you haven't photographed) would you love to get pics of?
Arto Saari would be sick! I love his skating. Spanky would be pretty high up: been really enjoying watching his footage recently. The skater that takes top of the list would have to be the fastest man in skateboarding: Dennis Busenitz. Just a photo of him pushing or bombing a hill would be a dream shoot!
What advice would you give to any aspiring photographers out there?
Just enjoy your photography. Put as much time as you can into it, and most importantly talk to people and make connections.
One last note on this: educate yourself! Take time to learn about photographers before you. Look at different areas, visit galleries, study photo books, listen to lectures - it all helps and gives you a better standing when moving into the professional world.
Anyone you would like to thank?
Firstly, I’d thank you Ade: all the lifts to parks years ago, and people I met through you, and the videos you made.
In skateboarding: big thanks to my friends over at Skateboard England, and always a big shout out to Jim The Skin and Ride. Everyone at X-Games & Simple Sessions: you rule.
Thanks to Andy Scott also, as he kept me in skating for years, he's the hype man. Vic Frankowski: always a supporter of my photography from Content (@hello_content). There are so many to thank, as I can’t do what I do without people giving me opportunities and their time. Love to everyone.

piri i need horror movie recs it's been too long since i saw a good oNE
this ended up becoming Piri’s Ultimate List Of Horror Recs (2017 Version) so i’m putting it under a cut rip
note: this list has trigger warnings but i am operating under the assumption that you are okay with the standard level of explicit sexuality, vulgarity, violence, and gore present in mainstream horror movies
horror
original nightmare on elm street series, but especially 1, 3, 4, 6, and freddy vs. jason (tw for implied pedophilia and explicit child murder, tw for rape in #6)
friday the 13th (original and remake)
honestly all the friday the 13th sequels are A Treasure but if you want The Core Canon watch 1-3
my bloody valentine (original)
psycho (original) and tbh all its sequels (tw for sort-of-kind-of incest vibes)
psycho ii and psycho iv are my favorites because (1) meg tilly is adorable in psycho ii and (2) psycho iv has a harley/norman cameo and nobody can convince me otherwise
child’s play, child’s play 2, bride of chucky, maybe some sequels after that idk i haven’t seen them yet :(
scream franchise
not the mtv scream series
i mean s1 is decent but there are definitely other horror shows that i would recommend more
1-3 are the best, 4 is worth watching if you really like the characters but as a concept the series has p much run its course by then
tw for rape mentions in scream 3
predator
peeping tom
kenneth branagh’s frankenstein (tw for a graphic depiction of death in childbirth)
james whale’s frankenstein
bride of frankenstein
the phantom of the opera (1925)
the phantom of the opera (1989) (tw for a much grosser depiction of the phantom story than the 1925 or 2004 versions; i wanna say all tws are left at implication but i haven’t seen it in a while so i’m not sure)
alien franchise
the wolfman (2010)
darling (tw for rape)
house on haunted hill (original and remake)
final destination franchise
medium raw: night of the wolf (tw for pedophilia and child murder)
the babadook
the final girls [horror comedy]
the shining (tw for implied child abuse)
the cabin in the woods
hellraiser
heathers (tw for eating disorders, suicide, everything high school kids are insensitive assholes about)
from dusk til dawn
an american werewolf in london
the guest
it follows (tw for dubious consent)
nightwatch (tw for implied necrophilia/descriptions of necrophilia, self-mutilation)
re-animator (tw for rape, pedophilia mentions)
carrie (original) (tw for child abuse, religion iconography)
the remake had some interesting like... subtext/imagery but other than that it was pretty *wet fart noise*
the awakening
the craft
the blair witch project
honestly i loved the book of shadows: blair witch 2 bc it kind of parallels the crucible but i can admit that objectively it is Terrible
elvira, mistress of the dark [spooky comedy]*
american mary (tw for rape, (consensual surgical) genital mutilation)
fright night (original and remake)
jaws
halloween franchise
1-5 are the best imo but no matter what skip #3 because it literally has nothing to do with any of the other movies
not the rob zombie remakes, those are awful
let the right one in [swedish (?) film, watch with subtitles]
rosemary’s baby (original)
night of the living dead (original)
28 days later
suspiria
silent hill (tw for child molestation)
crimson peak (tw for incest)
the lost boys
interview with the vampire
the ring
one missed call
the raven (2012)
repo! the genetic opera
teeth (tw for rape, incest, t’s??????? about a girl who has razor-sharp teeth in her vagina and how that coincides with her sexual awakening as a very straight-laced religious person???? so idk like watch it for The Wild Ride if you want but watch at your own discretion)
american psycho (tw for rape, general misogyny)
sweeney todd
speaking from experience, this is much better live, the movie sucked out all the fun and humor that wasn’t literally written into the lyrics, so i recommend watching the original broadway cast on youtube or something
there’s also a 1936 movie but i haven’t seen it so i can’t speak to its quality BUT i would recommend it on the basis of it being made before the musical was created and thus being based more directly on “the string of pearls” novel which is where the sweeney todd urban legend was originally documented
abott and costello meet [insert universal horror monster here] [spooky comedy]
little shop of horrors (original and remake) [spooky comedy]
the last man on earth (1964)
adapted from the same book i am legend (2007) was adapted from but the last man on earth stays much closer to the original book
c. h. u. d.
ghostbusters (1984 and 2016 versions) [spooky comedy]
ghost ship
sick girl (tw for bugs, pregnancy horror)
misery (tw for torture)
puppet master (tw for rape)
the haunting in connecticut
zombieland [horror comedy]**
jurassic park series
lizzie borden took an axe
*spooky comedy: a comedy movie with a spooky premise that i am categorizing with horror movies due to the genre overlap, but that lacks the intense violence, gore, etc. of a horror movie
**horror comedy: a spooky comedy that does not lower the level of violence, gore, etc. that is standard in a horror movie
thrillers
stoker (tw for incest, has a scene in which the protag’s mother verbally abuses her)
m [german film, watch with subtitles] (tw for themes of pedophilia/child molestation/child murder, but it’s worth noting that the whole point of the movie is to condemn and demonize pedophilia)
also one of if not the very first detective movies
nightcrawler (tw for rape)
the vvitch/the witch/however the fuck it’s spelled
rear window (original)
zodiac
hannibal lecter franchise (tw for cannibalism, obviously)-- the silence of the lambs, hannibal, red dragon, manhunter
manhunter is adapted from the same book red dragon is (red dragon) except manhunter was made before anthony hopkins became The Iconic Hannibal Lecter(TM) so it focuses much more on will graham and francis dolarhyde
hannibal rising is worth watching for gaspard ulliel’s performance but the book was much better
the hannibal movie adaptation changed the ending of the hannibal book while still maintaining a really good and really compelling storyline so the book and movie are definitely both highly recommended by me
gone girl
shutter island (tw for asylum horror)
pan’s labyrinth
documentaries
cropsey (documentary on child murders)
urban legends (another documentary, by the same people, talks about how real-life crime affects the american psyche and lives on as urban legends/horror tropes)
the poisoner’s handbook
h. h. holmes
nightmares in red, white, and blue
his name was jason
never sleep again: the elm street legacy
television
bates motel
ahs s1 (tw for... literally everything)
slasher
similar basic premise as ahs, but imo ahs is v exploitative and builds the plot on violence and vice, whereas slasher builds the violence and vice on the plot
supernatural (LISTEN........ LISTEN....................... conceptually it’s the bees knees okay)
penny dreadful (tw for constant explicit sexuality, religious iconography/sacrilege, asylum horror)
criminal minds
bbc broadchurch
bbc river
bbc sherlock but literally only ep. 3.4 “the abominable bride”
rosemary’s baby (2-part made-for-tv movie)
podcasts
the black tapes podcast
small town horror
alice isn’t dead
king falls am [spooky comedy]
limetown
welcome to night vale [spooky comedy]
video games
until dawn
outlast series

GIGsoup Interviews Holiday Music
Formed at the back end of 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Mike Hlady, the Austin-via-Boston outfit Holiday Music has its origin in the Massachusetts indie scene of the late 2000's. Notable amongst this scene were Magic Magic, hailed at the time as one of the 50 best new bands in America by the Boston Phoenix. Despite receiving air play on BBC Radio 1 and having their self-titled debut distributed by legendary UK indie label Rough Trade, strangely and disappointingly a record deal didn't follow suit. After a few more releases and the creation of Hanging Horse Studio, Magic Magic faded quietly into the background and the newly formed Holiday Music came to the fore. Their debut album Atlantis arrived soon after their formation in 2014, and this was quickly followed a year later by Brain Waves Are Real? via Disposable America. Spending a little longer on their third album, John Wayne Syndrome was released in 2017. After another three year gap, their latest and fourth album Certified Ailments arrived at the end of February via Super Wimpy Punch. It was certainly time well spend as it’s their best work to date. Clocking in at under 30 minutes, its eight tracks are packed with a catchy and energetic blend of lo-fi, alt-rock, garage punk and a hint of psychedelia. GIGsoup recently caught up with Holiday Music vocalist and guitarist Mike Hlady to ask him a few questions about their latest album and how life under lockdown has been so far. First of all, congratulations on the new album. Can tell us a little bit about the making of Certified Ailments and inspirations behind it? The title is based on things that are bad for you. Things that make you feel good, but might not be good for you. I started recording the year before last doing demos. Then, last year I brought a couple songs to a friend of mine and really focused on overdubbing and finalizing everything. Mixing was a collaborative effort between myself, Evan Wynn and Daniel McNeill. We got the single ‘Expire Medicine’ mastered by the legendary Greg Calbi. It’s cool all the nice feedback we’ve gotten from everyone on the album. I do think this one finally represents ‘our sound’.  http://youtu.be/aX8JQ_-C7KE Did you get to tour the new album much before venues started locking down? We didn’t. It seemed to come at such a poor time. I had been wanting to put this album out for a while, and finally after coordinating with Super Wimpy Punch we decided to on February.  We had an album release show on the day it came out with our friends in Spirit Ghost, and then that was that. We had a bunch of shows set up for SXSW with lots of cool folks from out of town. It was a bummer because we haven’t seen some of the bands in a long time. How has life under lockdown been for you so far? How have you been occupying yourself? What music have you been listening to? Yeah, going a little crazy but trying to remain a stone statue as I usually do. Reading more, working on mixing music for friends, and video gaming. I watched Pink Floyd live from Pompeii on YouTube and it was insane. It’s awesome having the time to do that. I'm trying to let other stuff inspire me so making music comes more naturally. Right now, while writing this I'm listening to 'Venus in Furs' by Velvet Underground and 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' by Donovan.  Some bands new and old I’ve been listening to are Guided by Voices, Minutemen, Pixies, Disq, Broadcast, Bowie, Thin Lizzy, Kate Bush, Unicorns, Cocteau Twins, Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Stephen Malkmus and Roxy Music.  More artists have been opting for cassette only releases in recent years, what was your thinking behind putting Certified Ailments on tape as opposed to vinyl or CD? I actually always think to do vinyl but it’s so expensive. Vinyl is for the real collectors. CD is fantastic too. I’m all about CD’s but CD players are harder to come by I think. Tapes are cool and as I’ve collected more myself I think they are efficient and get the job done. They are definitely a desirable medium. http://youtube.com/watch?v=z6CV65Jsxqk I saw that you were involved in the creation of Hanging Horse Studio with some friends a few years back. Is it still operating? It’s not. It disbanded and everyone shifted more to doing their own thing. Which is cool. There ore recording studios or home setups all over now. Also, more music coming out from everybody. I did the first two Holiday Music albums there which you can definitely hear it in them. Brainwaves Are Real? especially. Hanging Horse was initially more of a recording studio rehearsal space for Magic Magic. Those were some really amazing times. Being a big fan of your work with Magic Magic I have to ask, what happened with the band? Are you all still in touch? Your debut was one of the best albums of the 2000’s for me personally, and among the great ‘lost’ records of my lifetime. It slowly fizzled out with time I guess. I’ve learned that time is more crucial than you think with art or a band. John and I still will work on stuff all the time to this day. All of us do still collaborate actually, under whatever moniker. It doesn’t matter what, it’s just the creation process everyone needs in their life. John and I work really well together at creating. When we are all together with Brendan and Dylan, it all clicks again too. Over time, we all just got pulled in different directions. We did a new Magic Magic record a couple years ago but never really finished it. Maybe it’ll see the surface at some point. How do you think the virus will affect touring and the live music scene when things gradually start to open back up again? I’m not sure, but I’m hoping we stay closed for a while to be safe. It’s not easy to say that because I work in live music. I want to play out in the world again dearly but I guess we’ll have to stick with livestreams for now. I’m doing a livestream on Monday 4th May via Super Wimpy Punch which will be on their Instagram (3:30pm CST / 4:30pm EST). You can follow Holiday Music on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Their latest album Certified Ailments is available via Super Wimpy Punch. Read the full article
