Happy birthday! Hoje de manhã tivemos um culto de aniversário. Três crianças da igreja completaram mais um ano de vida. Foi o primeiro aniversário timorense com comemoração que eu participei, eu até tinha dúvidas se as pessoas faziam alguma celebração. Cantamos, oramos, meditamos em Provérbios 3.16, cantamos mais um pouco e depois cantamos o "parabéns" em indonésio e em português. Na foto 5 você vai ver as três crianças, depois de assoprarem as velas, cortando o bolo. Nas fotos seguintes você vai ver o aniversariante mais velho dando bolo na boca dos pais e avós das três crianças. Dar comida é uma gratidão e um compromisso. Os pais sustentam os filhos e agora, ao dar o bolo, o filho retribui,mas também se compeomete a dar de comer aos pais quando precisarem. No casamento também, os noivos dão de comer e beber aos pais e depois um ao outro. Aos pais, a gratidão, pois até agora eles que os sustentaram, e o compromisso de agora retribuirem. E, para com o cônjuge, o compromisso de sustentarem um ao outro. Sobre a comida, arroz à vontade, frango frito, uns miúdos de frango bem apimentados e uma sopa com verdura e pedacinhos de frango. Bolo simples, biscoito, chocolate para as crianças, água e refrigerante. The photo is terrible (I was very hungry at this point and they were not long for this world either way) but first attempt at homemade ravioli was a modest success!

The pasta was maybe a little thick—a pasta roller would have helped a lot, as it’s quite a workout with just a rolling pin. I think I could have gotten it thinner with more patience, though. I used cookie cutters to make the circles and just stretched the tops every so slightly larger to fit over the filling. The silken tofu works perfectly as the egg binder, and the ravioli themselves held together like champions during the boil. My biggest mistake (I think) was not allowing them to dry at all before cooking, which I suspect made them a little more waterlogged and pierogi-esque than they would have been otherwise. The brown sugar sage butter was very good but left me with a lot of extra sage leaves it turns out do NOT taste as good as basil does eaten raw (#livingandlearning). As delicious and easy as the butternut filling was, I do prefer a savory filling, so will probably stick with good old tofu ricotta and marinara next time, as well as go thinner on the pasta, use the smallest cookie cutter I have (went with the biggest initially so I’d have fewer to make), and let the fresh pasta dry out a bit before boiling it.

Missionário tem corpo!? Sexta à noite (fuso horário do Timor) foi tempo de conversar sobre o cuidado físico no campo transcultural. Pra quem já não é muito fã de atividade física, ela parece ainda mais supérflua quando se está no campo missionário. Afinal: "estudar a língua ou fazer alongamento?" "Caminhar ou preparar um estudo bíblico?" A resposta para essas perguntas parecem óbvias, afinal, eu sou uma missionária!!! #sqn Faz dois meses que estou no Timor e, sinceramente, já estou cansada de ficar doente! Intoxicação alimentar, reação à medicamento, diarréia, assaduras por causa do calor... Afinal, eu vim para evangelizar ou ficar estatelada na cama sem poder fazer nada? A resposta também parece óbvia, mas foi da vontade de Deus que, logo no começo do ministério aqui, eu tivesse essas pausas forçadas a fim de atentar para algumas coisas importantes e, uma delas é: eu não faço missão sem um corpo! Sim amigos, missionários não são feitos só de espírito!!! Eles precisam comer, beber, dormir, descansar e, pasmem, fazer atividade física! E tudo isso, na nova cultura, é um aprendizado! Saber o que posso comer e beber, descobrir um remédio novo para uma necessidade antiga, aprebder a lidar com o calor de um país equatorial... Tudo isso é cuidado físico! Claro, minha oração tem sido "Senhor, ajuda-me a viver esses dias com alegria e satisfação em ti", pois o corpo também pode abater o espírito, não é mesmo!? Digamos que o espírito estava pronto, mas o corpo ainda está em adaptação! Essa adaptação requer boa alimentação, hidratação, alongamentos, caminhadas, controle do peso, atenção às doenças e, quando necessário, ficar estatelada na cama para se recuperar! Muito obrigada a todos que têm orado por mim. Orem por cura, boa saúde, atenção e cuidado físico, alegria e satisfação em tudo!
