From the get go, we start with a clear image illustrating the situation, and a quick, concise summary of what led to the comic’s starting point; this informs the readers of the brothers’ motivation and goal in this story.

Then, despite the simple, exaggerated style of next panel, carrying a clearly rushed and comedic energy, the formatting is still well done, using the rule of thirds to draw the readers’ eyes to Draxum and Raph, respectively.

The next text box, draws a comparison to a Rise episode that utilizes this same trope using the same narrative device (a spell) as in said episode. This further helps the reader understand what is happening in the story, implying and stating that the brothers are going to travel through Leo’s mind and witness her memories.

The final image is centered, placing an emphasis on it. This part is important, because it marks the start of the brothers’ journey, clearly showing them casting the spell. Here, the background fades to white, creating an effect of a magical glow, while also transitioning into the gradient on next page’s background.

Page 2

The background starts white at the top, strokes turning darker as they travel down, until they reach black. It creates the impression of sinking, of falling into the mindscape. This also establishes the comic’s black borders, something indicative of the turtles being in the mindscape.

Accompanying this are three panels overtop, of Raph’s face as the spell activates. The soft white within these panels indicates this is him in the real world. He looks disgruntled and disoriented, and effect added to by the way the panels zoom in on him—his tensing jaw, his bracing squint—and the placement of those panels; they are disconnected, crooked, broken up in places.

This leads to a shot of the brothers standing together in the bottom center of the page, packed together. The border around their heads separates them from the background, while also filling up the space they’re in. Raph appears driven, if hesitant, and his wide open eye partnered with the previous images of him carry an animated feel which makes the components of the page be less disjointed when put together.

Mikey’s expression appears bored, he’s being flippant and casual about the mission. In contrast, Donnie seems anxious, but focused, worry/stress evident in how he holds himself. Behind them, there are waters and stone pavement; Donnie notes that the setting of most of Leo’s memories should be the sewers, establishing what the environment the entire rest of the comic will take place in.

Finally, large (loud) laughter leads of the bottom right of the page, leading the reader to the next page.

Page 3

The laughter is large and loud, taking up a lot of space as it stretches across the page, right above the beginnings of Splinter’s chiding. The size of the laughter could be alluding to how formative this event was to Leo, Splinter’s mocking laughter ringing loudly through the memory. The way the sound stretches along is also very cohesive with Raph in the panel below; it looks like he’s walking along with it, following the sound to its source.

The first two panels show a fluid sequence as Raph moves smoothly between actions. He hears the sound, then he follows it. His fast action and awareness—him being the only one shown to be doing this despite his brothers following—shows that he is the one taking their mission the most seriously.

In the third panel, all three brothers are somewhat acting as a frame, looking on at a distance. This separation allows the comic to veer away from them for a moment, as it focuses on the memory. Leo and Splinter are at focal points in the panel as they are the new subject of the comic.

In the next panel, Splinters’s expression is light, in similarity to the bright background. He seems unbothered, as he gives Leo his advice. Leo however, looks deeply confused, clearly bothered by Splinter’s flippancy and not at all comprehending the problem.

Taking focus, Leo argues that the dress he found is pretty. Her current mindset innocent and simple. There is an honest distress to his lack of understanding. His question is cut off, Splinter’s tone change made evident as he says Leonardo’s name in bold, his speech bubble outlined as no others have been thus far.

Leo is tiny and cropped, barely in the panel, as Splinter looms over her, appearance suddenly massive and menacing, the background dim. This is probably how Leo saw Splinter as his question was answered, how big of an impact those words made. He asks how Leo plans to be a warrior in something so ridiculous. He holds up Leo’s current life goal, her most guaranteed expectation, and tells her this behavior will get in the way. He calls the dress ridiculous, which would of course make Leo feel like he wouldn’t be taken seriously in it, like he’s inviting derision and mockery just by wearing it. In Leo’s mind, the dress now undermines her.

I have no need, Splinter says, giving Leo the idea that he might do something that would make him hold less worth. This would have made him feel like he could be discarded. And the use of the words feminine and undisciplined together no doubt form that association in Leo’s head, plants the idea that to partake in anything feminine is to be undisciplined, and to undisciplined is to be unworthy of Splinter’s affection.

In the next panel, she’s still looking up at Splinter. She is listening. And it only takes a moment for every word Splinter said to sink in.

This is the only point in the page where Leo stops looking up; he looks up to Splinter as a source of wisdom and authority, and so looks down on himself upon being “corrected”—the beginnings of self loathing. He’s also likely embarrassed at having done something so supposedly shameful without even realizing. The background surrounds him in black, as he takes these ideas to heart. He’s ashamed. Subdued. Leo apologizes for it all.

Page 4

A wide panel at the top of the next page, reintegrates Raph, Mikey, and Donnie into the scene, still watching the memory from a distance with some discomfort. The background shifts into Leo’s emotional state, the background taking on darker tones in messier strokes, the border becoming significantly less rigid, highlighting Leo as she becomes shrouded in that darkness.

The next panel shows him facing away, still seemingly part of a memory. Dark drips into the background around him. Mirroring this, it’s as if the border itself drips down, framing Leo, indicating her connection to this world. He turns, clearly addressing the turtles. His new eye stands out, glowing against the shadows of his new form.

As Leo explains that she needs help fighting the worm, Raph seems taken aback at being addressed by this child version of Leo, an open surprise on his face.

Raph pushes past the oddness of the situation as he agrees, but his averted eyes display that he finds this turn in their mission unsettling. Leo appears entirely stoic, in contrast to the real Leo seen into the memory, which drives the reader to separate the two to a degree.

Leo establishes that she’ll be the one taking them from memory to memory, in their search for the worm, driving the story along. This control he has over the story is emphasized by him tearing into the background, wherein three colours can be seen: Black only found in the comic borders and backgrounds; Purple and orange are similarly unique, seen only (in excess) on Leo himself. She swings her claws in an arc, ripping open a portal of sorts. And she stands next to it, entirely in black space, undeniably a part of the world around them.

RISE TWITTER QNA! no major news or announcements, but here's a list of new information and confirmations:

S3 could be brought back as a retro show in the future, but it probably wouldn't happen anytime soon (focus is on mutant mayhem at the moment)

it was never decided whether capril would be friends or girlfriends (due to rise's focus on platonic relationships)

council of heads! they're in power, but a lot of influential yokai (like big mama) aren't easily controlled, and "game the system"

despite not having his dual katana, supposedly f!leo DOES still have mystic powers

ron corcillo would love to see a spin-off focused on the caseys (if rise were ever continued), and likes the potential of a raph + casey vigilante duo

the turtles got their names after splinter's love for renaissance art

big mama's henchman WAS planned to be the missing sister, and rather than venus de milo, she would've been named after a female artist (possibly frida kahlo)

for halloween: raph dressed up as a kitten, mikey as a lion, leo as a rockstar, and donnie as j. robert oppenheimer

the mystic weapons stolen from draxum acted as a conduit to help the boys unlock their innate mystic powers with a "little boost"

they didn't realise mayhem's potential as a character/force until too late, but it could've been fun to do some stories of him being an operative (a la perry the platypus)

there weren't any planned stories for side villains (aside from the foot's cupcake shop), most focus was on the turtles

not much on casey jr's backstory, just that cass and the turtles were fighting the krang and leo raised him as a warrior. casey jr only has brief memories of cass from when he was very young, and was mostly raised by leo

there were definitely six baby turtles (two sisters)! and the turtles were gonna split up to rescue the one with big mama and the one in "the dimension", but they never planned much of it out

there's most likely a time gap between the rescuing leo and the ending scene of the movie, as "after a fight like that, [everyone] would definitely crash and need some recovery time"

there would've been more big mama in future episodes, and stinkbomb was planned to return

since the turtles became known to the public at the end of the movie, they'd have to fight to retain their reputation. this and their reception to criticism/backlash would've become a major arc.

on brother rankings: mikey is definitely raph's favourite, and they all look up to raph

the stronger someone's ninpo is, the greater the drain on their energy is (as seen with f!mikey and karai)

there wouldn't be much threat on villains going after casey jr's future intel, because most of it would've been rendered obsolete

nickelodeon would never give up the rights to rise, but they could license it to a partner company (such as IDW for a comic!)

as previously mentioned, the 2nd sister would've been trapped in "another dimension" and venus/frida would have to be won over by "helping her see that she had been brainwashed [by big mama] as a child" (and redeemed)

given more time, the show would've fleshed out: the hamato story, the hidden city's origins (krang spaceship that crashed into the crying titan being the source of the ooze, its fuel being what gave the yokai mystic powers), and would've used the rat king (who ron corcillo would've liked to be a powerful yokai with rat-like abilities and some form of mind control, who could've threatened the council of heads for power in the hidden city)

as far as we know, the turtles (aside from leo's spanish) only speak english (and even their english is sometimes a bit off)

rise probably wouldn't have ever "gone dark", but after the turtles were publicly known and full-time heroes, it might've had more of an extended plotline

the turtle's casual clothes somewhat reflect their music tastes (r&b for raph, glam rock for leo, techno (and 80s) for donnie and boy band for mikey)

future heights: mikey grew a bit and then shrunk under mystic strain, leo was at least 6ft, donnie a little taller than leo, and raph at least 6'6

mikey's powers could get pretty intense, which could've resulted in some multiverse episodes (ron corcillo would be most inclined to do a 12 crossover, but any could work). while leo portals short distances, mikey's cross space and time (with great effort)

given more time, how the turtles met april would've been fleshed out

in terms of how they take after splinter: donnie and leo have a lot of his cockiness, raph his courage and sense of duty, and mikey senses him missing his family (which is part of the reason of why he tries to hold everyone together)

given more time they would've done more with the transfer of leadership from raph to leo (and originally the plan was to draw that out over S3, rather than the abrupt S2 ending). they would've been co-leaders for a while, and at times mikey or donnie would lead (they aren't really a group with just one leader archetype)

there were plans for april to have more time with the specific turtles other than donnie (like how the gumbus was focused on her mikey and leo)

the cast's mystic abilities would've increased over time, and splinter has a lot of power that hasn't been revealed (as he spent a lot of time in the hidden city in his past)

venus/frida would've been very disciplined and so serious that's she's funny, and the dimension sister would've been "a little kooky"

there weren't really any plans on how the turtles would look in cloaked human forms, just that they'd resemble lou jitsu and may be inspired by their VAs

mikey is the only brother who can fully pull all his limbs and head into his shell (being a box turtle)

any usagi appearances would be a rights matter, and depend on collaboration

on timelines: april is 16 at the start of the series and 18 in the movie, but exactly how much time passes isn't confirmed

ron corcillo would've liked to do more donnie + raph episodes, like one where despite how donnie considers himself smarter, raph ends up beating him in common sense and emotional intelligence

f!leo didn't go with casey jr to the past due to being mortally wounded in his bleeding side

given more time there would've been more flashback episodes with the turtles at various ages

though he'd never admit it, hueso has a close relationship with leo

in early S3 there would've been an episode of setting up the new lair

mystic warrior f!mikey is pretty old (maybe in his 70s), and is strong enough to use basically any mystic power, but at great cost to him physically

no major plans with bishop, but once the turtles became more well-known he could be a bit of a thorn in their sides (like j. jonah jameson to spiderman)

there might've been some redemption from big mama, but also some relapses into her "villainous ways"

given a full season, karai would've been alive for longer, and would've trained the boys for a number of episodes

confirmation that some of early s1 aired in the wrong order (which the writers weren't happy about)

in rise, there's always an unpredictability as to how sentient a mutant will turn out to be

raph probably wouldn't be super uptight about swearing, provided the boys weren't offending anyone

there weren't any plans for romantic relationships (and DEFINITELY never an april-turtles love interest), but if they had ever tried something eventually it would've been with the same species

there were no specific plans for alopex, rita, or rennet, but anything's a possibility

in terms of the 1000 years ago krang/mystic timeline, the spaceship crashed first (possibly spawning the yokai), and other krang followed it, drawing in the invasion

that seems to be about it but if there's any more i'll do a reblog with additions

CASS! YOUR BRAIN! IT'S SO... HUGE!!!!Okay, okay. So, to recap what you have confirmed to us-

The robot that we see is NOT controlled by Donnie's spirit. We see that Donnie is able to control it via headset, etc.

Also, the reason this "Plan B" did NOT work is because Casey got possessed by Don's Hamato spirit in a memory from the future on accident.

It was going to work. He was literally mid-crawl before Casey swooped in and tried to help him but ended up somehow bringing his spirit into the past and cloning him a new body with plot serum.

We don't know if this robot would have worked. We don't know if Donnie even had enough equipment to make a robot body like the one he made for Raph. Maybe it would have failed. Maybe everything would've been okay. I just don't know.

But that's the beauty of this series. You planned this since you first decided how Donnie was going to die. Yes, you've said that you're kind of as clueless as we are at times when it comes to "what's next." But the amount of detail you put into this is ASTOUNDING!

Even with your VERY FIRST COMIC, you used Don's failed experiment with Leo and turned it into another chapter where we found out that Donnie was trying to find a cure for Mikey's peepawed body!!!

The fact that Donnie not only didn't say anything before he died because you knew that it "wasn't the end for him," but he also had a plan B that he didn't tell anybody about hence the guilty faces, the reasurrences, and ignoring Leo's "we don't need to worry" talks. And he couldn't simply tell them that "everything was gonna be okay" because his plan possibly wouldn't even work!!!

AND THAT'S WHY HE HAD A BREAKDOWN WHEN HE LOOKED BACK AT ALL THE RECORDINGS OF THE RESISTANCE FAILING BECAUSE NOT ONLY IS HE WATCHING EVERYONE HE TRIED TO PROTECT WITH EVERYTHING HE HAD DIE BEFORE HIS EYES, BUT HE ALSO REALIZED THAT HE FAILED THEM AND LEFT THEM WITH NOTHING!!! HE FEELS SO USELESS AND GUILTY FOR SOMETHING HE HAD NO CONTROL OVER!!!!

Even since we first met Raph, we got Don's theory about how storing spirits into mechs worked. He probably used the rest of their most valuable resources to even BUILD that thing.

I don't know if when they all realize that Casey is actually the reason Mikey couldn't sense any of their spirits because he snatched them up and brought them to the past/different timeline that they're either gonna feel angry or like "Oh!....oh." You know?

It seems to me that they still don't know the answer to that question. With all of them back, I thought they would have by now, but I guess we'll see pretty soon.

A lot of things could happen in this chapter. Good things, bad things, it's quite a toss-up. Let's just hope this whole big misunderstanding comes to a big finish soon. Donnie deserves a comeback. Everyone deserves to have a breather where they can all just...talk. Cause' by GOD there is a lot to talk about. I know they had some downtime before Miwa showed up, but Donnie's still working. If Donnie doesn't finally open up to his family by the end of this, I'm bringing out the beach balls, I swear.

“LIFE MISSION: SAVE MY BROTHERS” 💖 The Red Knight’s Mission (Episode 1: The Buried Memory Page 28-41)

and, finally, the last set for this episode. this was actually harder to get through compared to the rest of the sets, physically and emotionally 😭 drawing leo grieving broke me and i cried like a baby sketching that panel. i wish i could add more panels in but i didn't want to drag out the comic too long and give myself too much work. it was supposed to play out similarly to "E-Turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" where leo's memories pushed back against him to avoid painful memories but i feel like that would've destroyed the vibe and somberness of the softer moments. plus it'll make the episode much MUCH longer. also leo didn't actually lose the colors of his scarf. it was more for symbolic reasons. and if the last panel of page 35 looks familiar, i took inspiration from the movie and imitated the expression mikey had when he tried to open the portal for the third time to save leo. (no, i did not trace it) it may or may not be foreshadowing for later 🤭 and yeah, the comic will be taking a hiatus……. to make more of the comic 😂 dw it's not for mental health or personal life reasons… actually it's partly that because i have an upcoming VISA interview 😭 bUT i'll still be making LM stuff behind the scenes, dw >:3 next episode won't be as drama or action packed as this one but… we will meet raph for the first time 👀 i'm really rEALLY excited to work more on the comic, and that's TWO reallys! i just hope y'all will be patient with me because it is no easy feat working on this. i love it but i'm only one person, after all 😄 thank you so so much for supporting this comic again! comments and shares are very much appreciated! 💖 BEGINNING / PREV / NEXT EPISODE (coming this april) •

AND SO HERE WE REACH THE END. THE EPILOGUE. THE 50TH PAGE OF MY 20 PAGE COMIC. BRILLIANT. I hope i never do this again. good lord. I can’t say it isn’t satisfying to end something like this but MAN did this balloon. This was because I got an ASK, do you guys remember that?? Do you remember that i started this comic on a whim?? Because I got an ask?? And then i held a poll about what comic I should make??? THAT WAS MONTHS AGO.

I considered adding one more page that's just a wide shot of Raph watching Splinter looking at Leo but I figured you get the point well enough already.

here's some round up fun facts under the cut!

this script is 3596 words long

it spans 8 pages of my 90 page tmnt google doc

it was originally supposed to be around 20-30 pages AT MOST

the reason behind its specific style choices is that I was IN THE MIDDLE OF COLLEGE when i started it and i wanted to be able to make pages as fast as possible. so i created a limited color palette so that i wouldn't over do things. i still kind of over did things tho.

because the point was to draw pages as fast as possible I frequently make little mistakes like forgetting to draw bandages, knee/arm pads, masks, and donnie's entire glasses.

one of the most frequently forgotten things i think is Raphs hand bandages. i think i draw him without them more than i draw him WITH them ;_;

when I started this i wasn't going to include anything to do with CSA, because I was unsure that people wouldn't be weird about it

halfway through the comic, I started to write Donnie with a stutter. this is because I was still developing the characters when I started this comic and it was supposed to help me figure out their emotions more, so quite a few decisions were made about them in the middle of script writing & the days/weeks between drawing pages. that's how you end up with shit like Donnie suddenly developing a stutter.

because of the placement of when i decided to write him with a stutter, it kind of looks like he develops it after a particularly traumatic memory, and i think thats kind of funny.

THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE LONGEST FINISHED COMIC I’VE EVER MADE.

When a rat turns a 1000 years old they become a Kyūsu. They grow large like a cat and have been known to take care of orphan kittens, but this old rat found four turtles in strange green ooze. The Kyūsu did not expect the second physical change in his long life nor did he expect to raise four not-quite kappa in modern Japan.

Makin robots and the portal duo! This was the full page of the original comic

These are both based on memories of me and my older brother! We loved playing games and building Legos together, and we were both in a junior robotics team once upon a time. I died a lot, even in co-op games lol

My brother was much better at coding and building than I was, but he did let me put googly eyes on all our robots, so I like to think it was a group effort!

Dialogue under the cut:

First comic-

Mikey: Leo! Stop dropping my robot in acid!

Leo: No~

Mikey: It’s a co-op game!

Leo: More like “cope” cause you’re mad I’m winning.

Second comic:

Mikey: Can I help you build it?

Donnie: Why not? I can’t bar science from a curious mind.

Mikey: Can we put a Jupiter Jim inside?

Donnie: It’s a scout bot, I need that space to hold the CPU.

Mikey: Can it have moon buggy wheels then?

Donnie: Those don’t have enough traction. The treads will keep it from falling into the sewer pipes.

Mikey: Um- Oh! What about arms? So it can move stuff out of the way?

Donnie: Hnn- No rotors strong enough for that, I’m afraid. These materials are pretty subpar.

Mikey: …

Donnie: There! Now, to set the camera…

Mikey: pfft- I thought you said I could help.

Donnie: What? You are helping.

Mikey: Then why aren’t you letting me add anything?

Donnie: Idea! I know how you could contribute!

Yeah, I keep making more Rise of the TMNT art, as long as I have inspiration (and hyperfixation, apparently), there will be more. Rise is officially my comfort show, and it gives me life, happiness and all other positive emotions. Honestly, I still can't get over the movie, and especially the relationship between F! Leo and Case. I've been rewatching this first 5 min promo for... I don't know how many times, but a lot, and just these 5 minutes made me fall in love with this movie. I so wish we could get more interactions between F! Leo and Case, as for me it's always amazing to see a character from a completely differnt perspective and in a completely different role. Like, Leo went from "my brother asked me to pull out his baby tooth, I pulled the wrong one, BUT IT WAS A BIG TOOTH", to being a war veteran and an adoptive father to his dead friend's son (at least one of the crew members confirmed that Casey don't have many memories of his mother, and Leo was the one who mostly raised him, so, yeah, obvious conclusion). That's tough, and amazing, and beautifull in a way. I love to see characters growing up in this way. If/when we will get a season 3 of Rise, I hope we could get like a mini arc with stories from the future.

And I think I'm gonna draw some more stuff with these two, and I already have an idea for a little comic... And animations... BECAUSE I CAN
