When the +++Positives+++ released this letter in January 2023, they blacked out all of the signatories but one:

The full signature line was:

So yes, Bob Jones III was writing to his own legacy institution to “being to make corrections.”

WutBJU doesn’t know who was present at this Winter Board Meeting of the FBFI outside of Bob Jones III.

I’ve bolded those names who are either current or former members of the BJU Board of Trustees. UPDATE: I eliminated this indication after receiving all the names who signed.

The men present who voted unanimously were either all of those or some of those. We don’t know. We can presume that the Officers were all likely present: Kevin Schaal, Gordan Dickson, Taigen Joos, Bud Steadman, and Michael Privett.

Who abstained? Bob III didn’t. Mike Harding as a present BJU Board member? Stephen Jones as a very absent member of the Royal family? Mark Minnick as a current employee?

The only name on there that I can guarantee did not abstain was Don Johnson, but he’s an old friend of mine. ;)

Best of 2022 Movies #7: The Bob’s Burgers Movie

Hand drawn animation is what many call a dated art.

So it’s fitting that the best animated film of the year belongs to something simple.

The bonds of family.

Bob Belcher and the brood have delighted us all with their misfit nature since having their Gran re re re opening in 2009.

The big screen outing which sees Bob and Linda fight for their restaurant after a sinkhole brings about more misfortune than ever is actually quite clever.

As well as Tina Louise and Gene playing their part with solving a mystery that arises from the hole.

Wonder Wharf and all that reside around the area are connected indeed.

SUM 22: The Belchers continue to prove the importance of family in the years best animated outing.

The Bob's Burgers Movie

The Bob's Burgers Movie [trailer]

The Belchers try to save the restaurant from closing as a sinkhole forms in front of it, while the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family's restaurant.

I've never seen an episode of the series. But I feel to be familiar with its characters by seeing countless gif posts here on tumblr over the years. While it's unlikely I will ever find the time to watch a whole season, I used this opportunity to finally meet the Belchers.

Turns out they really are a very lovable family. And so is this movie with its low-key animation and story that perfectly fits the limited ambition of the film.

Naturally, I loved all funny store names.

Even though the lyrics are amusing, and they didn't really bother me, I could've done without the musical numbers.

So WutBJU has received the latest letter from the FBFI, and it's not the letter you think it is. Or it's not the letter you want it to be at least.

Apparently, when regular folks email Kevin Schaal of the FBFI for a copy of the letter the organization sent BJU last February regarding the #BJUVogue fashion show (which WutBJU covered when it happened), here's how he responds:

We have not been given permission by Steve Pettit or BJU leadership to release any private correspondence between us. They have expressly asked us NOT to do so. We agree with and are honoring that request.

I would refer you to BJU to get the information you seek.

Strange.

Okay. Whatever.

But then he adds a letter he feels like he can release with this explanation:

The following is the only internal communication we have had within the FBFI board on this subject.

And here's that letter:

Dear FBFI Board,

The issue of the tenure of Steve Pettit at BJU has entered into the public discussion. We have been contacted by individuals and news outlets regarding this matter. Our Fellowship is not involved in that discussion. The only correspondence we have had with BJU was nine months ago and was intended to provide constituency feedback on policy issues, not personnel. [We have been assured by members of the BJU board that] it is not a factor in the present decision-making process. Steve Pettit and BJU board members have requested that we make no public comment about it [or release any documents]. We agree with the wisdom of that and will honor that request.

We believe that Steve Pettit and the men who are on the board of BJU are godly men, and they need to be able to work through their issues without pressure from us or anyone else. We understand that the FBFI is being cast as the villain in this matter. Anything we say to defend ourselves would be a violation of trust and destructive to others.

So we respectfully request that you also hold your peace and make no public comments regarding BJU and its present decision-making process.

So. Steve Pettit has one last little shred of power in the BJU-universe, and he demonstrates it by withholding this letter. He's desperately trying to control the narrative in all this.

BJU Positive Folks, you'd better adjust your expectations here. Pettit is not staying in the BJU presidency.

Also Kevin Schaal is not going to be the next president either, I would venture. I earlier proposed that he would, but he's got enough power in the conversation that it wouldn't look good for him to take over now.

Rookie-Critic's Top 25 Films of 2022: Honorable Mentions - The Bob's Burgers Movie (dir. Loren Bouchard & Bernard Derriman)

Movies based on long-running adult-animated programs tend to not be smash-hits in the quality department. We all remember the half-funny, extended episode that was The Simpsons Movie. However, The Bob's Burgers Movie might just be the single funniest piece of media that was unleashed upon the world in 2022. With a whip-crack sense of humor that rivals anything from the show both in dialogue as well as animated visual gags, this romp through Seymour's Bay had me crying for basically the entire runtime. The characters are lovably funny, the animation is excellent, even the songs hit a funny bone in me that similar animated musical numbers just don't normally hit. If you're at all a fan of the world of Bob's Burgers and its characters and you haven't seen this yet, stop wasting your time and get on it.

Currently streaming on Hulu & HBO Max.
