Best of 2023 Music #22: Ryan Gosling “I’m Just Ken”
If anything can be said about the Barbie movie that’ll be further explored within 4 more entries this month, it’s that it goes beyond what we all felt it was going to do,
Case in point Ryan Gosling delving into Stereotypical Ken’s insecurities about losing what he had built up and how he really doesn’t want to be without his beloved Barbie.
With this he ends up making us see beyond Ken as a stereotype and give so much to him.
Plus unexpected dance numbers just work.

‘23 Was Definitely For Me (Year In Review)
Another 365 Days around the sun complete.
And once again, the hype didn’t crash with all the pressure that was put on it.
But like before, as we enter the Jack Bauer year, we first must take a look at the goals I had set myself 52 long weeks ago.
As before previous scoring will apply to it and all that had been set up with it.
Now…
Find Someone
Result: Split
Got to meet some new faces and learn new skills but in terms of love life, I’m still looking.
Do Pushups and Sit-ups Daily (More reasonable amount this time)
Result: Split
Mixed in some new Facebook advertised exercises, but never did end up doing them daily.
Try Ice Fishing
Result: Fail
Never got the chance.
Lose Weight
Result: No Decision
Dropped 15 but added 9 Back, may try a different approach.
Move Forward
Result: Pass
One of the big personal growths I had this year, took opportunity on a new job which went great although didn’t end up panning out.
6. Visit Another State Besides Minnesota
Result: No Decision
Ended up keeping things close to the chest.
7. Attend and NFL or NBA Game
Result: Split
Made plans to attend nearby NFL Draft so that counts.
8. Make an impact at work
Result: Pass
Whether it was with my short stint or long term impact I did make myself heard and felt with my jobs this year.
9. Save $250
Result: Pass
May not have been via the bank, but secondary job ended up allowing me the rare feat of banking with what I’ve earned and withdrawing if I needed funds for pre payday usage.
10. Try not to be afraid of things beyond my control.
Result: Pass
Despite some scary moments for me I didn’t waver at the sight of bad things happening and got to work fixing any issues that may have arisen.
Our Final Score.
2023 Overall Score 6.5 Out of 8
Verdict: If anything could be said about ’23 For Me its that like its namesake the results are both unexpected and bountiful in more than one enterprise.
Never got the chance to get outside the state but have gone further south than ever with my first solo trip to Menominee.
Visiting an amazing theater then ended up coming back in the middle of a rainstorm.
Ironic considering 5 days later I ended up caught in one resulting in damage to my car only windshield ended up being fixed.
We would continue to also see time move on for us family wise as Connor would firmly establish himself in the contract building game, though losing another dog was the downside.
Made one of the biggest leaps in my life with taking a new job opportunity and I did have myself a great few months helping out people who needed it. Only wish that could have stuck without the dreaded q word that would do me in.
Now of course we do have to set ourselves some benchmarks for 2024.
Starting with the Carryovers.
Find Someone
Do Push-Ups and Situps Daily (Reasonable Amount)
Attend a Sporting Event (Preferably NFL, NBA or MLB)
Move Forward
Make an impact at work.
Save $250
Visit another state besides Minnesota
Along with 3 newbies.
8. Read More than Apple Books and Goodreads Goals.
9. Establish EMAC Lmtd (For Real)
10. Reunite with old friends.
Like before if I can get 55% of these done, I’ll consider this upcoming year a success.
Many are calling 2024 one of the most crucial years we’ll be seeing for some time. Which is why I’m calling it the ticking motion.
If Jack Bauer can mange to do so much in 24 maybe I can do a lot more when it comes to 2024. Plus, we’ll have an extra day on top of it, so much I know can be done in that timeframe.
Either way this upcoming trip around the sun will be something I’m looking forward to.
Like before, its going to be a fun ride.

Best of 2023 Music #1: Dua Lipa “Dance The Night”
On our final entry we get as what Barbie herself calls it a bespoke song with planned choreography in a blowout party.
The best overall entertainment moment of the year comes as we get a Barbie dance montage you would only see in an animated film of hers, only now it’s for real.
The cast getting down showing off the skills and mood that all of Mattel’s iconic property over 65 years can put into a perspective.
Pure fun and pleasing moments for all.
What gives this its gravitas is the ballad by Dua Lipa, as she gets the party mindset with a catchy jam that also keeps the mood despite the dour subtext in the bridge that would ironically play into the plot.
Simply enjoyable in an unexpectedly great moment.
Even montaging well with its counterpart.
But like with MindaRyn this really was a tossup. Only here the pure fun of the scene is what pushes this out in the street as we follow along with Stereotypical Barbie and company dancing the night away.

MCE Best of 2023: Honorable Mention
Music: Taylor Swift and her Taylor’s Version Remakes
Our penultimate entry (and last honorable mention) takes us back to December with another look at Taylor Swift.
Here we focus on a litigation concerning her back catalog of music.
Scooter Braun, notorious for his management of many acts gained the rights and original recordings of Taylor’s original 6 albums with his acquisition of Big Machine Records, the studio in which Taylor was originally attached to.
But as Taylor held the publishing rights to the albums themselves and was now part of Republic Records her solution rather than going back to Braun was to re-record her 6 albums to gain complete control over her music.
The first 2 Fearless and Red came out in 2021 and were well received by many with some even calling them far superior than their original versions.
This year we got the next 2. With Speak Now coming first and her major highlights came from both her reworked version of Mine.
As well as I Can See You which many discovered for the first time this year.
Her other rework came from the game changer 1989 as she brought her most notable jams to new resonance.
With Shaking it off.
Writing about Blank Spaces.
And re-teaming with Kendrick Lamar, for a fresh version of Bad Blood being the major crowd pleasers .
With the year she’s had let’s hope that both her self titled debut and reputation have equal opportunities for swifties.

MCE The Jaw Droppers 2023 #1: Damar Hamlin
There’s no question what the biggest jaw droppers of the year is. With it occurring just 44 hours into 2023.
When a simple play by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin happened to impact him just right to stop all body functions for nearly 25 minutes and nearly cost him his life.
The sheer miracle of the training staff who kept him alive and him waking up days later with his functional activity in check is something to be thankful for.
Even more so when he made a return to the field this fall.

Best of 2023: Game of The Year
Winner: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom^
Our winner of game of the year continues a legacy that has quickly become one of the biggest in history.
After 6 years we return to Hyrule and a different landscape than we travelled through in the heyday of the switch.
Showing why Tears of the Kingdom certainly lives up to if not surpassed the major expectations.
While exploring the caverns below the castle, Zelda ends up being abducted in a flash of light, sending Link back up to the sky and damaging the mater sword. Losing his arm in the process, Link begins to acclimate to new abilities and enemies among the floating islands before returning to the changed surface.
Finding grown versions of the champion descendants he came to know when he reactivated the divine beasts, Link begins the process of going after Zelda once more all the while an ancient evil that even Link assumed long gong now gains a voice.
Many advances have happened since Breath of The Wild wowed us with its open world of Hyrule.
Here we see that come across as Link uses his new arm to create and innovative technology scattered above and below.
The possibilities are limitless in what can be creatively constructed.
Or done to get rid of those pesky Koroks.
But even 37 years later the sheer scale of adventure that Link, Zelda and all versions of Hyrule have become known for still ring true here.
Easy reason why this runs away with Game of the Year.
SUM 22: Returning to a changed Hyrule sees Link once again doing what he does best as he goes after Zelda via creative freedom.

Honorable Mention: A Sport Goes Swiftie
Like last year there is one more shocker moment to mention.
Taylor Swift had an eventful year.
One of the notables belonged to a coupling that formed when Travis Kelce tight end for the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs attended the Eras Tour concert when it arrived at Arrowhead Stadium in July.
A phone number left on one of the Swifties bracelet staples led to them meeting up.
By September she became integral in the suites of Arrowhead next to his mom Donna as the NFL officially boarded the Swiftie train.
With many appearances from the big time at MetLife.

To even the surprising ones at small towns like Lambeau in Green Bay.

If this does go predictably where she’ll end up using him for album inspiration down the line. At least we’ll have these fond moments to look back on.

Best of 2023 Music #2: MindaRyn “Way to Go”
A rarity in which the two best songs of the year will flip flop, but both are that great.
A major player of my top 5 in music in recent years involves the feelings you can get from an anime song.
‘20 showed us the power of heroes and the faith in having hope.
‘21 gave us the meaning of manifesting destiny
And last year had the bonds of family coming from unexpected sources.
With this year our entry shows off the strength of living your best life.
MindaRyn is a Thai singer and YouTuber known for many catchy songs in her native language and culture.
Her unexpected breakthrough came with the closing theme of the anime By the Grace of The Gods. An isekai showing off a reborn preteen who comes to master the slimes of his new native land while befriending a duke his wife and daughter.
Known as BLUE ROSE Knows, this showed off her vocals while keeping the story of Ryoma in spirit.
So with the second season coming out they came back her way for the theme.
While she manages to give a new mindset of moving forward while keeping those you’ve grown to care for ever present.
Pure enjoyment arises out of this , and especially with the state of music being in a downturn this year it’s very refreshing to have mindful energy in a theme.
Even if it involves slime.
