There are two times soap is mentioned (by Ed, but also at all by anyone in the show). First is in the wake of Ed and Stede’s breakup in We Gull Way Back when Lucius is helping Stede by giving Ed some of his stuff back. The other is in the very next episode where Ed holds up the bar that he was given with the rest of his personal effects for his service and excitedly notes it.

The soap calls back to the previous episode, connecting the only other time we’ve seen soap be mentioned; relating to Ed and Stede breaking up. A moment where, even though they’re in a situation neither of them wants to be in, they’re both together and smiling. But the soap is a specter. A haunting, foreshadowing that connection being made once again. By the end of this episode, they’ve split again and this time in a catastrophic way.

Jack -green flags; cooks good soup, good at taking care of you, loves you an absurd amount -red flags; forces you to go wherever he’s going, disregards family, treats you like a trophy spouse/SO

Davey -green flags; gives amazing hugs and gives them often, loyal, values relationships (family, friends, etc.) -red flags; doesn’t let you hang out with friends, gets into a lot of arguments both over that and other things, horrible with money

Spot -green flags; lets you go wherever, protective, goes to therapy (well as best you can in 1899) -red flags; voilent, bad with boundaries, flirts with other people to a really bad degree

Racetrack -green flags; in touch with emotions, really sweet, good with relationships (friends, family, you, etc.) -red flags; gambling addiction, “nice guy” complex when crushing on someone, overprotective
