Anime Talk - Keep it Cool, Guys

There are quite a few good anime to watch this season. Other than continuations of Uzaki-chan, My Hero Academia and SpyxFamily, I'm also watching a few other new series that I would like to bring to everyone's attention. I have two of those in total.

Today is my second favorite of the new series. It is called Cool Doji Danshi (Cool, Clumbsy guys) in Japanese or Keep it Cool, Guys in English.

Each episode is about 10 minutes in length, so it is a good thing to watch if you don't have much time, but it is still enough time to develope a story.

The series follow four different guys who seem to have no connection to one another. What they have in common is that they are all clumbsy in their own way and have different ways to deal with it.

Ichikura Hayate is a 20-year-old university student. While he is clumbsy and forgetful, he reacts calmly. One thing he does is going to the convenience store, grabbing one thing and going to the register while holding his wallet in his other hand. While deep in thoughts he hands the casheer the thing in his one hand, only to find out he handed her his wallet instead of the thing he wanted to buy.

Futami Shun is a 17-year-old high school student. He is also clumbsy and forgetful and when called out he claims it is on purpose, even if it's not. On his way to school one morning he is listening to music at a high volume while riding the train. It's not until he is about to get off that someone reminds him that he has forgotten to plug his earphones in his phone, or at least they aren't plugged in all the way.

Mima Takayuki is a 27-year-old office worker. He is clumbsy, but seems to be completely oblivious to the fact, going on like nothing happened. After being handed a paper cup of coffee (you know, those with a lid that you can drink through) he misses the tiny opening as he was trying to drink from it while having a conversation with a coworker.

Shiki Souma is a 19-year-old studying web design at a "Senmon gakkou" (specialty school). He is clumbsy like the others, but just laughs at it. He stands in front of a glass door, waiting for it to open, only for one of the other students at his school to tell him that it's actually not an automatic door.

What I like about this anime is that you get a good look into the characters' heads, and get to listen to their thoughts about how not-cool they think they are and how cool the other three seem whenever they do come across each other. Also, I don't know about you all, but I have done at least one of these things before, the door-thing being one of them. To me, this anime is very relatable, and the characters are likable. The art is simple, but that's to be expected from a shorter series, and it's not bad at all.

Why do I decide to talk about it?

Because it's good, it's sweet, it's simple and I'm pretty sure no one is going to talk about this thing and because it speaks to me, I feel like it has potential to speak to a lot of people, in the sense that I think a lot of people can relate to this. I can be really clumbsy myself and this anime has told me that 1) I'm not alone and 2) there might actually be someone out there who sees my mistakes in a different way than I do, which is a lesson I am still learning.

I want. Four to get appreciation. Because

Four gave a ton of unnoticed help when Twilight was injured

The fight with Wild was difficult, and I know we're all concerned about his negative view of the shadow crystal

But Four did something that no one else really thought of to help- He took care of Twi's stuff

From the beginning he told Twilight to not worry about them

So Four took care of pretty much everything but the others (that Sky and Wars handled)

He took care of Epona

Which is so very important- he took care of Twilight's horse. After her arrival at the stable Four followed up on her

And for Epona, a horse so attached to her human, having some company can help so much for reassurance

He took care of Twilight's stuff

He got Twi's shield- his bags and equipment, and organized it into one place

And he was worried. He obviously found the shadow crystal while handling Twi's stuff, but his negative reactions to it were out of concern.

Also- because of his placement in this scene

I'm fairly convinced Four was ready to start cooking before Wild showed up (since he's beside the counter with food supplies). At the very least he had the basket of fruit out for everyone -but he was literally standing with food behind him- he thought of everything

And he did housekeeping!

Wars payed for the inn, so Four took care of the inn

Realistically these boys were probably not too concerned with tidyness. Four got all of Twi's things on one table, and took care of the room they stayed in

Organizing tables and Twi's things, having food supplies ready, and opening the curtains- overall he was the one tidying up the inn

Four helped in a huge way! He took care of Twi's horse (Epona is so important), his equipment and shield and bag, as well as the other rooms in the inn

Four filled in all the little tasks that others didn't think of. He helped in ways that were needed, but not obvious

There's a lot of problems with the shadow crystal and with Wild, and I don't know what's gonna happen in the future

But don't forget this- don't forget that Four was one who stepped up in an almost unnoticeable way

Don't forget that when everyone was barely holding it together, Four visited Twilight's horse and took care of his things

No matter what develops in the future- this amount of care shown is important ya know?

If episode 5 wasn’t already enough to convince you, then episode 7 HAS to be enough to. I could’ve posted nearly the entire episode here, but I feel like this scene is the most obvious out of all of them. His friends and teammates might just call him dumb, but it’s very clear that the problem is that he has trouble concentrating.

Not pictured here, the trend of another (older) neurodivergent person helping out a younger one with whatever it is they’re struggling with. In episode 5 it was Takayuki helping Hayate with losing his keys, and in this episode Hayate passes it on by helping Shun with studying for his exams.

Danny & Co joining the Justice League and everything...but it's that wonderful DC AU where Bruce died in Ethiopia instead of Jason and Tim decided to be Dad (TM) of Jason's Robin and runs around as kid Batman for awhile (eventually becoming full legit Batman).

Danny & Co joining up after all of that, they have only known Tim as Batman (and for fun let's make this Brian Dead where Danny & Tim are dating, or are dancing around each other, maybe Super Brain Dead because I love Kon being involved).

Bruce is losing his mind

Okay so at the start of this there’s an unknown vigilante (danny) that Batman tends to bump into. Except Batman isn’t sure what he is.

Every time they run into each other Batman can tell there should just be a person beside him but before he gets a glimpse and opens his eyes to empty fresh air.

A vigilante that can vanish before their very eyes?

What do the bats think about this?

They think this vigilante can control time and is doing that to sneak out of their gaze.

Now here’s where the funny part comes in

Bruce goes on a wild hunt to search for the vigilante with a plan. To make them turn back time so that he can save his son.

The problem with this?

Danny is not a time traveler most days–scratch that he's not one at all. He can save his son Jason though, in fact he wants to, it’s just he needs to figure out a way to do this whilst not blowing his cover that he is the goddamn ghost king.

So he pretends that he does have time powers and that he just… uh… needs a minute to figure them out… yeah that!

Cue Batfam getting progressively more worried about Danny because ‘if he could turn back time—why doesn’t he avoid those hits?’

They all kinda think Danny is like purposefully hurting himself so now Danny is forced to eat breakfast with them and sleep at their manor.  I mean he’s confused at why they always look so worried about something but he’ll make sure Batman’s son gets home soon! Plus the rich people temporary-living-situation without all the ‘I want to adopt you’ billionaire bullshit is pretty sweet!!

(somewhere in the ghost zone jason is tearing up laughing at the batfam as they struggle to not burst into flames trying to figure out danny-- like for christs sake they think the ghost king is an american doctor who and are trying to get him to spill where his tardis is)
