illumi and hisoka, pure awful villain love

so. i love illumi and hisoka. I think they’re perfect for each other. I also think they’re more than just a quirky villain couple. it’s not just “he’s killed people but I still love him.” they’re truly the worst of the worst.

by which I mean CW for child abuse and pedophilia. it’s pretty core to their relationship and to this analysis. nothing that isn’t brought up in canon but like, fair warning

first off, i love this interaction between them. the way illumi is just like “i know what you are. anyway not my problem." hisoka isn’t exactly subtle about his feelings for gon so I’m not giving illumi a ton of credit for picking up on it this early in their relationship but it’s telling how easily he jumps over this hurdle.

also makes for a good parallel to this exchange:

when hisoka threatens to “make a move” on killua, illumi reacts so strongly not because he’s disturbed by this side of hisoka but because That’s His Brother. hisoka can have gon but killua is His.

(imo, hisoka definitely doesn’t mean “kill” here. the wording is ambiguous in japanese and can be translated as “kill” or “fuck” but the inclusion of that hand gesture was clearly intentional.)

i love how hisoka compares himself to illumi here. like not only is he self-aware abt his obsession with gon, he sees that obsession in illumi's relationship with killua.

illumi’s love for killua is deep. it’s toxic and obsessive and smothering. and hisoka knows this and looks at illumi and goes “we’re not so different, you and I.”

illumi is able to accept hisoka’s proclivities because his upbringing has basically ruined his sense of morality, especially when it comes to child abuse. he likes hisoka because hisoka is useful to him and he doesn’t care about the rest as long as hisoka stays away from his brother.

that’s the other thing abt this that makes illumi so terrifying imo: he’s not completely soulless and unfeeling. his love for killua is REAL. sure it’s a deeply unhealthy and abusive love but it’s love. he truly cares about his little brother, and yet he’s still capable of horrific things. illumi isn’t a monster, he’s a person capable of love with something he wants to protect and he STILL does what he does.

and as for hisoka, i think it gives him some depth too. it’s interesting how self-aware he is, especially considering how blatant he is about his attraction to Gon particularly in the earlier parts of the series. he doesn’t feel remorse for it, but he knows what he’s feeling and doing is wrong (which, imo, makes it scarier).

their relationship is so… idk how to describe it. I guess give and take works. they look at each other and go “you’re a horrible person but who am I to judge?” they’re useful to each other. they like messing with each other just to see what happens. they’ve mutually agreed not to fuck with each other’s favorite 12-year-old boy. they’re both depraved, awful people and they’re meant for each other.

they’re amazing villains with a batshit insane relationship and I love them for it

When I’m playing genshin, I’m mostly listening to either Paternity Court, or Steve Wilkos. Imagine the characters hearing all of the stuff and being so scandalized by the results and comments. Or being genuinely disgusted and heartbroken for the victims in more serious cases. I can def see a good chunk of them being invested

I don’t think I’ve listened to those yet! I do occasionally get on a true crime binge listen, however the weirdest thing my characters have heard has gotta be Game Grumps episodes or compilations lol

What if i listened to every season of Buzzfeed Unsolved.

What would we do then my Genshin characters, my people, what then.

I saw someone else write about this true crime documentary thing but they described everyone being pretty terrified or disgusted by the podcasts

Which I definitely think some would be literally horrified lmao

But also I think a lot of them definitely would be invested-

I would be so interested in what kind of person they were, and why they were listening to true crime stuff,

Since the third round aired, it’s become very popular. Are you feeling the buzz?

Alien Stage is growing in popularity every day. Did the crew recognise me during the CF shoot? It's funny because at the beginning of the show, there weren't many people in the world who recognized me, and now there are so many people that I can't get through the streets by myself. (Laughs)

You’re currently ranked #78, at this rate top 20 is possible, isn’t it?

Thank you for your kind words. I'd love to keep the momentum going and make it to the top 20, but I'll leave the choice up to the masses.

You have a lot of titles that describe you, right? Do you have a favourite?

My favorite is "Blocell's #1 Brand Reputation" from a recent article. It makes me feel like all those days of photo shoots and commercials weren't in vain.

What do you think makes you unique?

I can think of more bad things than good (laughs), but, um… I think the thing that fans talk about a lot is my partial fang. I think I have a normal face, but there are many people who remember me for my fang.

What’s your secret to getting the best shots?

The day before my schedule, I study the brand I'm going to shoot for so that I can clearly understand the directions on set. Knowing the brand in detail is fundamental as a model. I also think it's important to make it a habit to take care of my body.

What is your ideal girlfriend? Lots of girls around the world want to know!

I don’t have a specific dream girl, I’ve never really thought about it. If I were to choose one…. No, I don’t have one. (Laughs)

Are you close with Till?

What’s your definition of “close”? (Laughs)

We’re just okay. Mediocre at best.

also for the part about his fang my translator translated that as “false teeth” and boy when i tell you i was confused 💀

seokjin — i think people are expecting me to say his brat taming thing, bc it is objectively hot, but if this is a safe space and we’re oversharing together on a stormy friday night, i think it’s kinda hotter if he… doesn’t? like, knows you’re being a brat but goes along w it and “lets” you act up. so that’s not my answer, obviously.

so, to me, it’s his perseverance. i think it’s very hot to straight up say, “hey, i’m not all that great at this, but i’m gonna do it and try my best anyway.” i am a person who gives up the second i’m not good at something right away or as soon as it gets hard, so. yeah. very attractive and hot quality.

yoongi — cop out answer, but anytime he does anything with his hands. it almost put me in the ground when he made all those cutting boards. add on him playing guitar and i was donezo. he has really nice hands and he knows he has really nice hands and it’s sick. he’s sick.

hobi — idk how to explain it but hobi emanates this absolute freak aura and it’s, like. very hot. like you can just tell he’s comfortable and confident in himself and would be down to do anything and get a lil weird with it, and that kind of energy is powerful.

namjoon — this is where parasocial relationships come in handy bc this is something i find so hot hypothetically but would make me wanna strangle him irl, but: his petty streak. my god this man is SO petty and i find it SO hot, but if it was directed at me i’d cry so bad. like, hickeygate??? closer pt. 2?? kill me.

this is not me trying to assign him a label. it’s me as a person who does not necessarily feel all that connected to their gender (hard to describe what i mean by this but: i’m cis and know i’m cis but i still don’t know what being a woman means to me personally, and therefore i feel disconnected from it sometimes) seeing someone look at what society expects them to look and be like because they’re a man, and say, “yeah, nah.”

taehyung — how messy he is. another trait that might drive me bonkers irl, but from a very far distance? love it. it’s similar to what i said about jimin in the sense that, as an idol, there are expectations for him. and he just waves them away. like, there are not very many idols who are gonna go on weverse and threaten to shoot someone in the neck for violating their privacy, but taehyung will, and that’s very hot of him. those pictures from that club in paris? also very hot of him. he just sort of does what he wants and in an industry that’s so rigid and boxed-in, i can’t help but love a rebel.

jungkook — idk man. fucking everything. i had an embarrassing and public meltdown over him last year in his calvin klein era and now i can’t look him in the eye. if you put a gun to my head and made me pick one, though? it’s the way he’s got this overwhelming sort of fuckboy energy but you also know you could make him cry. we love a man with duality.

this isn’t rly a coherent point just a thought but i feel like the succession audience anon might be getting at the fact that the sociopolitical commentary of the show is lost as its audience increases? imo jesse’s political commentary is very clear but i also have my commie goggles on. but i know for a fact that the show is was not written nor marketed the way i’m consuming it. maybe jesse leans that way a bit but like he’s obviously descriptive and not prescriptive in his art so there’s that, and the constraints of tv are that it has to have broad enough appeal so you can’t be shoving your politics down the people’s throats necessarily. i think it is marketed to the brooklynite class you’re describing and i think they don’t fully get it and i also think as more people watch the more its themes are ignored in favor of stuff like omg who’d make the best successor, despite that not being what the show is about at all (also jesse has told us from day one who would make the “best” successor). idk like the people who get excited abt kendall becoming ceo you know? like omg it’s a win for him! like… are we watching the same show

ok i agree with a lot of this, and i am certainly also a known user of commie goggles lol. i think the fundamental limitation with the show is, like you said, that it's more interested in a descriptive mode than a prescriptive one, which means at its best it can nail character development and political satire, but it isn't really trying to offer any coherent alternative worldview. the portrayal of logan's gender / body politics is not flattering and doesn't flinch away from either the interpersonal trauma he inflicts on those around him or the broader political harm done by liberal capitalism; the show has also always been fairly sharp i think on the fascistic tendencies of capitalism and the way the latter turns into the former—again, shown both through logan's ideology of domination, social darwinist thinking, valorising certain types of bodies, etc, and through waystar's engagement with politics and politicians. however, i'd agree that this is all motivated by a description of the characters' worldviews and by satire of them, and we would probably see more of the cracks in the writers' and showrunners' politics if they tried to put forth some kind of more active alternative political platform.

that said, the fact that people miss these aspects of the show says as much to me about the political consciousness of viewers as it does about the intentionality of the writing. people with certain beliefs about masculinity are always going to watch 'fight club' and think tyler durden rules, no matter how effectively the critique is or isn't being made. similarly, people who think capitalism is a good or necessary system and doesn't derive value from fascism, or that succeeding in business is a matter of skill and mystical genius powers rather than a game of luck and accreting wealth, are always going to watch 'succession' and think that logan rules, or that the point is to identify the person who 'deserves' to take over waystar, or that capitalist electoral politics is a noble exercise in rhetoric that has simply been corrupted by a few evil apples, or what the fuck ever.

like, i'm not saying the writing is perfect or denying that it hits a wall in terms of actual radicalism. but i do think there are certain critiques the writers consistently and clearly make, often specifically via satire, that large swathes of the audience simply don't pick up on because they're approaching the text through their liberal capitalist ideological lens. you can see this, for example, in the journosphere's takes on the cruises storyline, which by and large completely failed to engage with the broader critique of capitalism as inherently producing death, exploiting bodies, and specifically preying on those deemed other or marginal—namely sex workers, migrants, women, etc. these points were very clearly made in the show and the meliorist viewpoint very clearly satirised (eg, in 'argestes'). ultimately, though, you can't rescue viewers from their own liberalism and you can't make them read the text from beyond those parameters. it's an issue of political consciousness, and although it can certainly be exacerbated by bad or milquetoast writing, even an explicitly radical piece of art will be interpreted through that liberal lens by people who are liberals (anyone remember the reviews of 'sorry to bother you'?)

i also would add that, in my opinion, this season has actually been more willing to overtly engage with the political threads than season 3. viewers can no longer hide behind the idea that the problem starts and ends with logan as an individual. matsson and his people have consistently been characterised as staking their own worth on their supposed biological superiority, with specific references to athletic ability, bodily strength, élite education that forms a class barrier, and the general idea of racial and genetic superiority ("nasdaq master race," "shallow end of the gene pool"). i'm aware there are many viewers, including on tumblr, who are not stringing these things together and seeing an overall discourse on capitalist eugenics and racism—but i do actually think that the satire here is being laid out pretty clearly in front of our faces. is this a show interested in exploring imaginative political alternatives? no, and you could convincingly argue on that basis that its fundamental stance is more self-satisfied snark than anything resembling actual leftist politics. i think, though, that this would be pretty evenly true since day 1, and that, at its best, the writing does hit on some key aspects of how capitalist spectacle functions, the power abuses it creates and enables, and how these things are inherent to capitalism writ large rather than being a unique pathology of the roys or waystar.

ultimately i love to see art that is actually communist / leftist in nature, is interested in alternatives to capitalism and ways out of our current political economic arrangement, etc. 'succession' is not that, clearly. part of the reason i do shit like blog about it is because it used to annoy me so much that no one was connecting certain more radical dots (like the obvious path from the show's historicised thinking -> a critique of capitalism as contingent) that are implied or allowed-for by the writing but never unpacked or explicated. so, often what interests me in the show is at least as much the lacunae left in the writing as the things it explicitly says. again, commie goggles. i also would tentatively agree with you that it's primarily marketed to people who are basically liberal and milquetoast, for reasons of profit motive, although again i honestly take in so little television advertising that i don't have much that's cogent to say about this angle of things lol.

i'm certainly not lying to myself that this show is any kind of radical statement of communist party values—i just also think that there are points of actually interesting satirical critique that the writers are very deliberate about, and that the guardian-new yorker-industrial complex is pretty much inherently going to miss these points or ignore them, for reasons that don't necessarily reflect one way or the other on the actual quality of the writing.

anyway, it was maybe goofy to write this out like an hour before the election episode airs, but these are certainly questions i will continue rotating after i see it lol.

Thank you! But honestly I don’t have any great recommendations lol. Disco Elysium feels like a pretty obvious answer, but that game is specifically about social systems and structures and so its premise sort of demands that macroscopic view of a fictional world. I have a pretty narrow media diet and therefore feel unequipped to give good recommendations in that regard. I think this might also be an issue of western media in general, given that it is produced in and comes out of liberal capitalist hegemony, so that context prescribes a political orthodoxy that is the exact issue I’m talking about in that post. I know that’s not helpful though sorry lol.

Also sorry x2 this is going to be a complete sidebar and not an answer to your question. What I had in mind when I originally wrote that post was trying to describe my sense of - idk alienation? Is maybe the correct word? When I see trans characters pop up in media or even when people headcanon characters as trans. It’s not wrong to do those things or represent trans people in media - obviously not - but often in genre settings like sci-fi or fantasy there is no engagement with gender as a social system outside of a trans character being there. Modern western binaristic gender identities are left fully intact, except for this small space carved out for a trans person. And because my own conception of trans-ness is so deeply tied to modern social circumstances and historical contexts (capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, settler-colonialism, orientalism, etc), I find myself unable to relate to trans characters who appear in those settings because in order to relate to them you need to set the groundwork for like, how does a transgendered relationship to gender work in this setting? How does a character go about transitioning, or expressing their trans-ness in a social capacity? What gendered expectations do these characters respond (or not respond) to? And if you’re duplicating modern western gender norms in those settings (which is almost invariably the case), how does that system interact with other social systems of control and domination in this fictional universe?

And like idk if that feels like asking for too much, but even when I see trans characters on screen or on the page (which is incredibly rare already), I don’t really feel represented by them because the boundaries of their trans-ness stops at their individual body, and so you end up reproducing essentialist ideas about gender just by virtue of the fact that nothing else in the setting is troubled or complicated by the presence of a trans person. The appearance of a trans person means there is a social system that fails groups of people, that an oppositional relationship to binaristic gender is possible in this world, but that’s never reckoned with - at least not in the media I have ever encountered. So I default to almost wanting trans-ness to not appear in media because at least then gender in these universes is a fully “settled” matter and I don’t have to think about it beyond that. Which isn’t a fun experience either, but it’s at least easier to avoid thinking about it in those cases.

Anyway sorry my answer to your question is that I don’t have a good answer. If people have good recommendations they can feel free to offer them in the replies, but I probably won’t be able to speak to those at all

In this scene if I’m not mistaken(which I could be as I haven’t read it forever) Sebastian was threatening to take Ciel’s soul after he started to question if he should give up revenge against the cult. (This whole discussion is kinda void if he did not try to eat Ciel during this interaction and only threatened to kill him, but I recall he at least acted like he would eat him)??

Does Sebastard have to make a contract with someone in order to take their soul? Or can he just do that to anyone? Because if that’s the case that he can only take a contracted soul after the agreement terms are met… if Ciel were to annul the contract and release the contractor from having to complete the work order doesn’t that mean the originally required payment is no longer a valid expectation? 🤨I mean, their contract said you help me get revenge and when it’s over u can kill me and eat my sorry ass. So if Ciel giving up means a breach of contract… how tf can Sebastian still be like ok kid imma kill u now? Is it just cuz he feels he can do whatever he wants if the contract is annulled? Ok so why make a contract to begin with then… wtf just let the kid wallow in his sorrow for a while and then eat him (not that I think that’s nice or ok obviously LOL) like why not say “Ouu I will help u to be nice” and then kill him when u get tired of it, rather than saddle urself with rules? That action implies only being able to eat a client lol

Did they ever set any terms for if someone breaks the uh, idk butler lease as it were, early?? Is there some settlement for Sebastard if Ciel decides to abandon his revenge? Or would it just mean he could manipulate him about “wasting his brother’s soul being a sacrifice” and nothing more? What I’m saying is how can he threaten to take Ciel’s soul when he didn’t fulfill the contract because it’s been canceled… doesn’t it just mean Sebastian keeps the initial down payment of all the cult mf’ers evil souls or watever? He didn’t finish the job… the complete payment was to be released after the work was complete. Ok so maybe Ciel has to pay some kind of legal price for terminating the contract unfairly or watever, but I would expect it still to not be the full soul as described in the contract.

“Oh this is stupid it’s not a literal contract it’s a demons pact literary device boohoo” ya ok but whatever I don’t care I want to play layman’s court with y’all and have a needlessly in-depth discussion abt it🙄if Ciel fires Sebastian does he owe his evil adopted dad type thing some stock in Funtom or some money for a cat or something? thank you for the long & thought out response. while i do fully agree with you on stances like prison abolition & the myth of the stranger pedophile scapegoat, my question and discomfort with jimmy’s actions comes not so much from a political/philosophical standpoint but from a very human emphatic one. i put myself in the shoes of the girl he groomed and abused and imagine people listening to and enjoying the music of my abuser and it makes me sick to my stomach. so thats more where my guilt and discomfort comes from. that said i can’t say that their music doesn’t have an impact or isn’t enjoyable. i also agree with you that this mass outrage and very public renunciation and demand for punishment is very much a social mechanism and automatic reaction that quite simplifies a complex situation. however these mechanisms exist for a certain evolutionary purpose after all (sorry my background is psychology) but thats sort of besides the point because im also not a fan of how these things get handled with zero nuance.

its also true what you said that me or you or anyone deciding to disengage with this band or their music changes nothing in the grand scheme of things, so doing it as some sort of Noble Cause against abuse is useless. so in this case i feel it’s up to personal preference and whether or not i can swallow the cognitive dissonance and discomfort this information arises in me whenever i listen to their music from now on.

thanks again for the insightful response, i’m glad we can have this sort of discussion because i also think this topic is extremely important but people often shy away from it because it’s so heavy.

im glad you asked me to share! like i said ive spent a lot of time thinking abt this specifically so its very much like years worth of mishmash thoughts kinda strung together only by me experiencing them over time in succession lol. but i agree its important to talk about it especially within a culture so ensnared in the logic of the prison and particularly how effectively thats been exported into like 'mob justice' for lack of a better word.

re: the emotive aspect im not sure i have much to say other than like Yeah its a very strong one and i dont think its a bad thing at all to have. i got the impression from ur ask--and idk how true this is--that you were wrestling between a desire to return to the music bc you enjoyed it and that response preventing you and feeling a sort of obligation to do one over the other n struggling with that. so i think i approached it as like 'heres ways you can reason w that emotional response and grapple w it if its smth ur agonizing over' or something like that. im also a firm believer in the ways politics shapes the ways we think n feel so my instinct was to tease out some of the structures that may be shaping ur thought processes--which of course i nor anyone but you can fully know. but i dont get that same sense from how u describe it here and either way i think whatever feeling ur having about it is like...i dont want to say its 'valid' but ur allowed to have that and do whatever you want pretty much lol. i cant and am not going to force anyone to engage w the band and theres probably more reasons than i could think to list why its not for everyone even without the sordidness of abuse hanging over it.

without getting into a much much broader discussion i would gently push back on the idea of a biologically innate reason for the existence of carceral/punitive logics (and frankly psychology more broadly), if only bc it does a lot of the work of justifying them. keep in mind that these are concepts ideas and patterns of thought that exist because they serve systems of power and particularly the state. we did not have to have a society which created them, we only happen to--which is to say theyre not innate in this way and i disagree that they have an 'evolutionary' purpose bc it fails to properly historicize them. but thats me coming from an antipsych position lol

Going off of last nights vent lol. A presenter at the social work conference last week talked abt maslows hierarchy of needs and ya boi is a huge proponent of that model. If u don’t know it’s a pyramid w basic human needs at the bottom and works up to things that help u feel satisfied in life and not just surviving. The idea is that if ur not getting those bottom level needs met how are u supposed to even worry about the upper ones. I’m used to the bottom level saying like “food water and shelter” and I’ve almost always had those things, it feels precarious and the fear of being homeless Someday weighs on me but at least I have the privilege of that being a hypothetical. Anyway the example this lady gave included “warmth” on the same level as those things and I was like wow. I don’t have that. Like, protection from actual frostbite sure. I’m not sleeping in the snow like my clients and I’m grateful for that every time I get in bed and I wonder where they are. But also I’m cold enough every day that my body doesn’t function properly, cold enough to give me emotional outbursts sometimes. I wear a marshmellow jacket to class and at work and yet I’m like not taking in information properly bc all I can focus on is how miserably cold I am. That rly is a maslow situation huh lol how am I supposed to feel things like confidence or peace when I’m just like “if I shake my leg rly fast maybe it will warm me up a little”. The next level up from that includes “safety” which is also iffy for me like again I have somewhere to Go but I can’t walk 10 minutes in public without someone threatening my life. I feel a substantial amount of the middle level things like love and a sense of belonging but I don’t get to *feel* those things bc I’m so consumed by the bare requirements that I don’t get to do. I have a partner and friends that love me dearly but when I’m in their presence I’m anxious bc there are more pressing things I need to get to (and bc I’m cold!!!) idk I feel like that whole theory is a great way of describing where I’m at in life rn like am I happy?? Idk maybe but I don’t get to even strive for happiness or recreation or sense of self. I strive for warmth and less pain and doing all the required things. And I never rly thought abt how the hierarchy thing also works in the sense of like,, yes you don’t get a chance to Try for those high level needs if ur stuck on the bottom but also even if you Do Have higher level needs met as a respite from not having basic needs met,, you don’t get to focus on that either bc ur still physically not ok. Much to think about

•Ok there is a whole thing abt the verbal times in Spanish (if y’all don’t know Spanish is one of the most difficult languages since it has a lot of grammatical stuff, so yall and Sae are very smart to understand at least a little of it!) it’s kinda complex to explain it buut here we go:

-If we wanted to say y/n’s mother is a pussy we could say y/n’s mom “es una marica” first, why not “está”? Bc when you say está you’re saying that it is something that it’s happening right now, simplified, The verb está is used to describe temporary states.

•(Fex: Eita está (is) muriendo (dying) de celos (of jealousy)).

Instead, “es” is used to describe permanent states or states that last a long time. (To be easier to understand, take this shit like the verb to be in English!)

•Finally, why marica instead of concha? Bc we usually don’t use concha to insult somebody, you can swear with it like the Argentinians do (“la concha de mi madre” it’s literally the pussy of my mother😭 but they’re not saying their mother it’s a pussy, it’s just a swearing out of a exasperating situation.) so it sounds better if we call her “marica” in a way she’s a fucking pussy for not knowing how to treat her daughter properly! >:(

butters. and I think it boils down to mistaking his naïveté and gullibility for innocence. Much like the other residents of south park, he’s not a good person. he can be nice, but not always good. I’d best describe him as a nice opportunistic asshole.

I think a best example showcasing butter’s dark side needung little provocation is vindaloop. When cartman tricks him into thinking it’s virtual reality, all Cartman has him do is silly things like chores for other ppl. but once recognizing the freedom he has, butters decides to kick his dad in the balls, steal a car, and run over a prostitute… twitter gnc angel butters would not do that.

2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom

Lol just had a mini conflict with some ppl on Twitter, imma bring up points that they made and my responses. I find it interesting on how they seem to be recycling the same points and then just cursing and insulting the bylers lol.

Btw, i tried to keep on a non bias agenda during these so keep that in mind.

Person One (talking abt a byler shipper) : I genuinely have no words.... Like the way they're all completely refusing to comprehend the monologue and Mikes love and care for El.... They would rather cut their right arm off than see an abuse victim finallv receive the love she deserves it's absolutelv sick.

Lmao the amount of inaccuracy from this take ^

My response: I mean they're kinda right? Mike had to be pushed and encouraged by Will to say those things in first place. He couldn't say it when El was literally being choked to death he had to be reminded of the painting that he thinks El commissioned. (she didn't) "You're the heart mike"

Person One (Talking to me) : If Mike didn’t love El, how would the idea that she thought he was the heart change that? The reason Mike needed help to say it was because of his own insecurities, not because he didn’t mean it. No matter what pushed Mike to say it, the fact of the matter is that the contents of the monologue are all about El, to El. A huge monologue. Mike doesn’t tell her because he thinks El helped with the drawing, he told her because Will made him see that his love is valuable

My response: Not what I meant lol. My theory is that he didn’t love her as much or in the way el wanted him to or maybe that he was falling out of love, and the way that Will described it to him resonated with him and helped him gain confidence to say I love you, whether he meant it or not. Imo, I think that Mike doesn’t love el the way he’s supposed to and he’s recognizing it and maybe feels guilty about it so saying “I love you” is like lying to her face. Plus I doubt it’s bc he’s insecure El has told him time and time again that she loves him. She’s told him in letter after letter after letter. Told him in S3 and kissed him while he just stood there with his eyes open not touching her, just being completely still. Which is..weird, considering he was making out with her at the beginning of the season. If he was really insecure and his whole thing about saying it and admitting his feelings would make the day that El realizes she doesn’t need him anymore hurt more is strange bc that just exposes him for thinking he’s nobody while El’s a “Superhero” El herself didn’t want to be called a superhero she wanted to be recognized as her own person, a normal person, like Mike. And those insecurities of hers are shown when she says she’s different, and she doesn’t want to feel like that. And yet mike keeps saying it?? In short he’s basically saying, “I’m insecure because I think I’m dating literal superman and I’m a nobody who just happened to find her in the woods that day.” That makes El feel like her and Mike are too different and just “a superhero” and nothing else, and mike can’t see that.

Person Two (Talking abt my first response) : In that moment it didn’t occur to him because his main priority was making sure she could breathe. Plus don’t forget the fact that Mike was about to tell her he loves her right before Argyle interrupted. He had already attempted to twice before but was always interrupted. + It does feel a little cheap though that Will had to prompt it. Idk I feel like that wasn’t the best writing. Mike should of said it on his own since he’s always felt it.

My Response: They could have easily made them cool and a power couple at the end, and set up for S5, make Mike have an actual good monologue, and a kiss at the end.. but they didn’t and it’s either they have no Idea what to do with them or they’re trying to set something up.

-not to mention the time skip, it happens right as the climax is finishing but we don’t get to see it? Why?

Person two: Imo the Duffers just aren’t that good at writing romance tbh. They thought him saying it while El was in danger it would be more impactful. Which in a way it was but Will shouldn’t have had to prompt it. Unpopular but all the couples besides Lumax aren’t written well this season. Even Lumax at points as well. I love them but most of time they are broken up and they just feel like friends. I know lovely dovey isn’t them but I honestly can’t tell if they were officially still together or not last season besides like the first episode.

My Response: They have so many relationships to fix up that I have no idea how they’re going to fix it all in 12 hours or less? If just a dumb decision on their part. Especially with Mileven, they could have fixed that relationship if they chose to keep Argyle out, but. They. Didn’t.

Person Two: I heard season 5 might be shorter maybe like 9 or 10 hours. Idk why they like to push everything to the last minute. That’s why everything feels so rushed. Jopper is definitely the most solid couple atm.

My Response: Exactly, and they have so much to repair with Mileven so I question their decisions and their writing skills atp.

Person 3’s response to a Byler: one thing bylers are going to do is somehow make mikes monologue about will.

My Response: Lol Mike probably wouldn’t have said those things without Wills encouragement just saying.

Person 4’s Response to me: He was about to tell her i love you in season 3 before he was interrupted and when they were eating pizza before he was interrupted.

My Response: You realize that the van scene was before that right? Also we don’t rlly know that I’m sure he was going to but the duffers didn’t do that. It doesn’t make sense to me, it would have felt more meaningful if he said it on his own, without being encouraged in that moment. Which is just confusing? Why save Mileven for later? They could have easily had that convo, have El know that he already loves her and have her fight on her own. They could have ended it like they usually do and have then say I love you and kiss.. But they didn’t? Imo, If they rlly wanted Mileven to be as good as ships like Jopper and Lumax then why? It just doesn’t make sense and neither does mikes monologue. They ended it off with, “???” With Mileven. They could have easily had a set up where Mileven was a cute power couple by S5. 🤷‍♀️

Person 4’s response: He opened up and that takes time? He’s struggled with his experiencing for opening up. If you haven’t experienced struggling with your emotions in a relationship, don’t speak on it. He took his time and that’s okay.

My Response: Lol I do, I hate talking abt my feelings personally. Which is why I kinda relate to Mike. But if I knew someone loved me that much, when they show it and tell me, then I would say it. And if my insecurities were causing the other pain then maybe we need time away. In a realistic stand point that isn’t healthy. You shouldn’t be in a relationship with someone who makes you feel insecure, especially if it isn’t their fault. That’s problems that you have to figure out yourself. And mike always wanting to be with El and being over bearing Like that is not healthy at all. I used to ship Mileven but the way they started to portray it in S3 & S4 is not it. If they want them together they shouldn’t have written it like that and waited all season to repair their relationship in the last season in which they plan to be Shorter makes no sense at all. If anything with the amount of ships they left in the dark ST5 might just turn into a drama romance scifi if they aren’t careful. Imo, Mileven is beyond repair, and if they do it’ll probably be poor writing, and undermines their characters like hell.

Person 4’s response: He was going to in season 3!!!!

My Response: Yeah but they never made that happen?? So why would they do that? To save Mileven till last season? That’s stupid and just causes unnecessary drama. The amount of Milevens I’ve seen change from wanting them to just be friends bc of season 3 & 4 💀💀

Person 4’s response: Well they’ve had Development and if you can’t see that, that’s your vision which I can’t change. The duffers worked really hard on this season and Probably wanted people to ask questions. He also said he’s loved Eleven since he saw her. Speaks for itself.

My Response: Lmao well that’s rlly bullshit and rlly questionable on their part. In S1 E2 they discuss abt what to do with el bc if you found some lil kid in the woods wouldn’t you take them in? Mike had a whole ass plan of what to do with her and to “Send her back to wherever she came from” And then “we’ll too totally be in the clear and tomorrow night we’ll go out and this time we’ll find will.” His main priority was finding Will and he was just being nice. The only reason why she was kept there was bc the “bad men” were after her. If he rlly loved her then he would have kept her in his house just bc he loved her. Not to mention the ST writers don’t believe in love at first sight and kinda clowned on it with Argyle and Eden in that one scene. So It makes u question if they’re bad writers, Or if Mike monologue’s was lies. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s both lol.

Person 5’s response to my first response: Don't you guys really watch the show Or understand how screen writing works Mike tried many times and he was interrupted by Dustin and argyle The whole monologue thing was designed Because it's crucial in the end Where el fights vecna It's all a pattern.

My Response: Yeah but It would have been better if he confessed without being interrupted and El could have gone into the fight knowing that mike loves her Just like Max knew her friends did.. But they didn’t. In which completely threw away her independence arc. She needed her bf to save her when they could have set it up differently, but they didn’t? Which is why I think if they don’t make Mileven break up or at least work thru their problems then that’s just horrible writing. They sacrificed her whole character dev for a cute scene.

Person 6’s response: I think mikes hug with hopper was pretty meaningful towards future mileven. they came full circle with that duo bc there won’t be young love dramatics next season. The resolved the dumb tropes from s3/4 (hopper not liking mike/Mike’s ILY) and set them up fairly well for s5 Aside from El’s likely internal self hatred after the max/ vecna fail. I’m sure after what he told her, El will consider herself the monster again or at least the one to blame for opening the gate in ‘83. That’s probably the only source of tension mileven will have going into s5

My Response: Yeah that may happen too, there are too many things going on in their relationship and too many conflicts to workout, considering that they left all of the other ships in the dark, Ie, Mileven, Byler, Lumax, Jancy, Stancy, etc. Also a lot of unanswered questions. Also considering that they’re aiming for only 12 hours or less, and the fact that they have to fit in the sci-fi / thriller concept is a lot to grasp. And they also broke from the pattern where one of them says I love you or kiss and the end.. That didn’t happen? To me if they wanted Mileven to be canon they should have stuck to the pattern that they had usually had instead of saving it with the next season when they have a lot of things to wrap up. Which honestly tells me they’re mainly going to be focusing on will and the ships in ST5. If they want to start another conflict in a season where all of the other ships are in a conflict as well is confusing and it makes me feel like it will be rushed and poorly written. I hope that they were planning this and can turn it around, but I don’t have much faith.

Long post incoming idk how to do Read More on mobile, sorry. Tldr: just a post abt my writing as usual and stuff about my interest in lwa (nothing crazy)

I know I talk abt my old fuckin fics all the fuckin time (like Jesus theyre old enough to be considered toddlers now) but anyway this is my vent blog and y’all will never hear the end of it so guess what still has an absolute GRIP over my mind after 3 years

Its forest of arcan- im jk its dreamer of stars lmaooo. I reread it right now for the funsies after months of forgetting abt it, and each time I read it I think “surely I am over this story and can move on with my life” and like the first half of the story its like yea I kinda am over it haha but then the second half just obliterates the thoughts and runs me over and I just lay in my bed and contemplate my life and go into like a State of Emotions and simply have to talk about it (but it also could be because its 4am at the time of writing this)

I do think it mostly has to do with nostalgia though. Truthfully I’m probably not able to write smth like that again because it was 100% written completely on emotion and quite actually everything bad Diana was feeling in the story was smth i was also going through so it was easy to… write a vent and disguise it as a fic LOL. But I was also running on the high of being in love with my best friend which also really easily translated to everything going on in the fic blah blah nobody remembers it but me so this means nothing to anybody and im being cringe and gay on main (not even my main)

ANYWAY the point of my babbling here is that honestly I miss having that intense amt of emotions that would spur that level of creative writing? Like yea forest of arcana (not updated in over a year) is fun and all but it definitely isnt written on a personal level like dreamer was. I also just genuinely miss writing lol and its like ok bitch why dont you write then and then its like good question why dont i?? I probably still enjoy writing more than i do drawing and i know my blogs say otherwise but the two mediums are both definitely different outlets for my life. Maybe i would change my mind the day my art is actually good tho 😛

Im laffing rn seeing me talk abt this “deep” different outlets of life cause like when u think abt it im also literally just Currently describing little witch fanfic and fanart since thats all i do LOL. Not that theres anything wrong with lwa being my Muse of course, but it just adds humor in whatever the emo hell im going on about

Another side sad mini vent but i dont think im as into lwa as i used to be which also waters down my interests in doing things, but im literally not interested in any other media or fandom rn either so lwa stays my hyperfixation. Plz dont be alarmed lol im not saying im NOT into lwa anymore since diana is still a fuckin god to me like 10/10 chara design and vibes, but its definitely not as strong as it was when i first joined the fandom 3 years ago. And you know what maybe it has to do with me not watching little witch academia in full in those entire three years after i first watched it lmao. Most of the friends ive made in the fandom are pretty much gone too which is sad but is what it is. Sometimes i get a burst of seratonin when i think about smth diakko and definitely like now when i reread my fics i also remember the Emotions i had for these Gays and it like floods back for a bit like a buff.

I think something im very interested in for both the spark of writing and also the revitalization for my love for diakko is that i wanna do like a oneshot slice of life series for diakko. Just something easy, cute, subjectively funny, and a vibe. I still fantasize abt diakko shenanigans even if mundane and i wish i could also capture it more in my art but im not at that level yet, so writing it is. First i probably need to rewatch lwa in full since ive forgotten most everything except for key diana scenes haha oopsie And sucy world episode that was a good fuckin episode.

Anyway thanks for reading this far if you did lol sorry for the LONG ASS NONSENSE POST. Sometimes i see how i type in my blog and to people and compare it to my writing and its like where the hell did my comprehensive english go. 2- I do know persona! I’ve just never played it or watched anybody play it. But I’ll look into smt whenever I finish up this Zelda phase (which who knows how long that’s gonna take lol) which brings me to…

Age of Calamity is the “prequel” to breath of the wild kind of ?? If you know the older Hyrule Warriors games from the Wii U it’s that game setting just better imo. I did like the other HW’s when they came out but they never interested me as much as the “real” Zelda games. But AOC is set 100 years before botw when the champions are still alive. It’s got a bunch of cute cut scenes that show the champions/Zelda/Link all interacting together and it makes me so happy lol. Anyway: I still haven’t finished it, I’m putting it off lol. I have 1 main mission left and 1 mission from the DLC left. I’ve been playing a bunch of side missions on apocalyptic mode as Sooga for the past like… 3 weeks now ? And speaking of him… yeah he’s just like a super fancy Yiga blademaster from botw. But he’s got the hottest voice I’ve ever heard (rivals with Law’s voice… I go back and forth between who’s I find more attractive lol). But I just. Am so in love with him 💀 even tho idk what his face looks like, but I don’t even care that much bc he’s so hot as is. (Also the height thing- my stupid theory is that he’s not actually as tall as they show him to be in the game bc of the fact he’s just a random Hylian who was “adopted” by the Yiga as a kid, PLUS there’s that guy in Kakariko Village who used to be a blademaster and he’s not 1000 feet tall lol. I think they just make him look giant to make him scarier lol. Also Link is super short so… using him to compare doesn’t help lmao)

4- I’m in the US eastern time zone!! I always end up posting super late into the night/early in the morning bc my brain is just…. More active during those times?? Idk why, I’ve always been that way tho lol. And I don’t really have a preference to how the asks are sent! Whatever you want works :)
