you can borrow e-books with your library card!!! it works with your local library system!!! they auto-return at the end of your turn so it's guaranteed no-fees and you can place holds as well!! it works functionally the same as an irl public library!!! and (since it's an e-library meant as a way for public libraries to let people borrow ebooks) using it is a great way to support public libraries even if you cannot go to one irl!! libby my beloved

I miss Overdrive sooooo much. It was so great to have a library app that didn't crash randomly, was easy to navigate, allowed you to customize the UI, remembered where you were in your book, had decent sound quality for audiobooks, had notifications that worked, and so many other things that they just didn't bother to build into the replacement app.

#Ancillary Justice #imperial radch #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is a p terrible synopsis but like. who hasn’t heard of these books #anyway: i finally read them!!! 10 years after reading the first 5 chapters lmao #did take me a bit to get into it #but once i got into it; a lot less complex than i expected it to be? or like. smaller scale. which I enjoyed. #also. it’s funny? not like all the time but more so than i was expecting #(i mean I wasn’t expecting or not expecting anything in particular) #love a grumpy not-friendship (as it is in the first book especially) #audiobook cons: skips the first two pages of every other chapter. pros: singing! in a way that actually works #(i only listened to the audio of book 1 bc the libby wait times are SO LONG for the others) #translator zeiat a standout in book 3. obsessed with her #i feel like i don;t have many concrete thoughts other than yea its good #anyway i will read the other 2 books at some point also

maybe an unpopular booktwt/booktok/bookstagram opinion but buying limited special editions of a book or book series you havent read is so odd to me. Like theres people who have actually read and want that limited limited edition but you just buy it to look pretty on your shelf. Yeah you can buy books you plan to read but i have seen so many posts of people buying DOZENS of books and just having them on their tbr or displayed on their shelf.

its a big part of the growing issue of overconsumption on booktok/bookstagram/booktwt. Theres nothing wrong with buying a book you like but these people doing expensive book hauls, especially off of amazon (which has tons of its own issues to unpack) are so weird to me.

Support libraries!!! read a book from the library before you buy it!! this benefits way more people in the long run and is much more sustainable.
