I have no idea if it's intentional, but does anyone else feel like there's some real potential of a huge fallout between Butcher and Kimiko?

Something that really annoyed me in The Boys Season 2 is the whole scene where Butcher tries to kill Kimiko's brother just for a shot at saving Saint Becca, and the whole scenario is used as conflict for a fight...between Butcher and Hughie. It's been a while since I've watched The Boys all the way through, but as far as I remember, I don't think there's a moment where Kimiko calls Butcher out on this and I don't even think she saw him about to shoot her brother - Hughie was the one who stopped Butcher and specifically told him who Kimiko's brother was and Butcher went for it anyway because everybody else is expendable to him.

But it was frustrating that we were robbed of Kimiko's reaction to this and instead her rage is refocused by the writers to Stormfront, since she killed her brother personally. Which is fine but it was annoying that a cool moment of character development for Kimiko was instead not explored and used as fuel for the relationship between Butcher and Hughie.

Then we have that whole thing in Season 3 where Butcher makes Kimiko go act as a honeypot to get something (I don't remember what) and she ends up saving a bunch of sex trafficked girls, but naturally she's still pissed at Butcher and tells him "I am not your gun." Then he menacingly tells her she is, they glare at each other and then it's cut off again by Frenchie. Kimiko and Frenchie even are about to leave the group at the end of Season Three because they're sick of Butcher's shit.

I have no idea if the writers are going somewhere with this, but I hope they are because it really makes Kimiko's character feel incomplete that she doesn't really have much personal conflicts or stakes in the group - she's just kind of there as the token female character and the only Supe, but I really wish that the writers would let her do more then just hang around Frenchie all the time. Season Three in general felt like it had no idea what to do with Frenchie, Kimiko and MM because they were too busy setting up Soldier Boy - in fact, a lot of plot points in Season Three felt incomplete to me, like the whole Homelander/Starlight fake dating thing was such a fantastic idea and never got utilised in an interesting way. Or Supersonic was such a boring character to me that I didn't remotely care when he died, because what did he do that whole season except simp over Starlight? I also thought Maeve's writing was awful because her motives seem to be all over the place and her sex scene with Butcher made me cringe.

Anyway yeah. I really hope there is a massive fallout between Butcher and Kimiko because honestly, the fact Butcher was perfectly fine with murdering Kimiko's only family that she just got reunited with after years of them being torn away from each other just for a shot in the dark at reuniting with his wife who ran away from him rather than simply tell him the truth was peak Butcher selfishness and it's disappointing that the only person who reacted to it was Hughie. I love Hughie but it wasn't really his moment, or at least it shouldn't have been.

not counting my characters from original works, selene is the oldest oc i have. i've played oblivion lots of times and she (for the most part) always been there with changes through the years. i went off with the moon as a concept for her, "she's a dreamer from the moon" is a line that always makes me think of her. selene is the unwilling hero, the one that got dragged into smth bigger than herself and slowly, since she had no choice, took the shape of the role they imposed on her. she found a mirage of a home for a little while, only for that to be taken away from her. it's truly not worth it to be a hero, huh?

a difficult battle between vio, akira & zefyr but in the end i went for vio. saying "mean" is an understatement. 'a rose born among thorns'..well she's a thorn born among thorns. it's difficult for me to speak of vio at times, she's more of a concept than a person, more of a numb soldier than the one in charge of her own life. an assasin and a pawn in the hands of a patron, melancholy and remambrance, her life is like a long walk to the gallows and while she's walking that path she has full intention of making it everyone's problem

this one made me realise how i barely have 'soft' ocs jklfds. easy sweep for joelle!! she had her whole life ahead of her with her wife & the son they just adopted, she looked at the future with exctiment until everything was taken away from her. joelle could've let the pain harden her heart but she didn't let that happen. joelle strives to help the people and what's left of the world she knew, she's a cutie who will listen to you talk for hours and crack stupid jokes to see you smile. her 'soft' nature doesn't make her naive so caution is still advised if you try to fool her!!

i love zefyr madly. MADLY i say. they are a powerful draconic bloodline sorcerer that values their privacy AND peace more than anything else. zefyr lives as a hermit in a forest where they can fully concentrate on their studies of the arcane & such. they do not trust easily (or at all) and their guard is always up. you probably won't get more than a few words from them (unless you ask them about magic and power and such), they just want to be left alone u know? they are known as the ashen terror and not only for their hair color: ashes and fire are the only things they leave behind if you dare anger them!! also they are pink. if pink why evil, they're probably just misunderstood..

Dear diary,

I was running errands in town yesterday when I had the pleasure of running into Mrs. O'Sullivan! I'll admit I haven't seen her since the wedding, which is odd given our being neighbors and all. Grandmother certainly raised me to be more hospitable than that, so I asked if Mrs. O'Sullivan would care to join me for tea after church on Sunday.

She was delighted to accept the invitation, and said she would extend it to Mrs. Grantham should she run into her before I did.

I'll admit I was very excited when Sunday afternoon eventually did come around. Much as I appreciate the company of the animals, there's nothing like having another like-minded woman to talk to. Our husbands had all gone out fishing for the afternoon, so we fortunately had the house all to ourselves.

It was all well and good for awhile, we mostly sipped at tea and talked about happenings around town, though if I am to be honest, it was a little more difficult for me to keep up with Mrs. O'Sullivan -- Maeve, and Mrs. Grantham -- Agnes, as they happily gossiped about some church-goer who supposedly dabbled in the making of current wine. I've never been one for gossip, so I only smiled and nodded whenever I could.

Eventually my silence was noticed by Maeve, who requested a penny for my thoughts. Both she and Agnes were curious to know how married life was treating me, so I began to tell them.

"I'm not sure," I'd admitted as such. "I would like to believe it is going well, but...

"But?" They'd both pressed.

"But, I'm afraid that I'm disappointing Caleb. I've been acting so closed off around him, and asking him for permission for the simplest things, things I could've easily done myself. I feel like more of a bother than a comfort most days, I fear that I am no better than a simple hired hand."

"Oh my dear, I know this must be such a hard adjustment for you," Maeve had sympathized. "But these things take time, you cannot expect to feel at home after only a few short weeks. Agnes here knows exactly how you feel, don't you, Agnes?"

I'd looked at Agnes in surprise. I'd known that she and Mr. Grantham were only recently wed, but they'd been so natural and loving with one another. I would've thought they'd known each other for years with how at ease they acted.

"Do you really, Agnes?"

"In a way, yes. Philip and I...well, our marriage was arranged, just as yours and Caleb's was," Agnes explained to me. "Those first few weeks, the first month, even...it wasn't a very easy time, but Philip was so understanding, so patient with me. Over time, I saw him as a confidant, and I can't imagine my life without him now. I'm sure you'll feel the same way with Caleb soon enough, he has been treating you well, hasn't he?"

"Yes...actually, he's been very kind to me. I'm just..." I'd shrugged. "I want to believe that its coming from a good place, and its definitely not that I'm ungrateful for everything he's done, I'm just afraid I'm terrible at trying to express my gratitude..."

"So's my Brendan, poor man has never really had a way with words," Maeve laughed. "You want my advice? Do what he does whenever he wants to show his gratitude."

"And what's that, if I may ask?"

"He does things for me, brings me gifts. Sometimes its a hand carving, sometimes its wildflowers he picked while he was out hunting, or even a bag of white sugar from the store. That's how I know he acknowledges what I do for him, and how much he loves me."

"Yes indeed, that's all you need to do, Josephine! I'm sure you'll think of something!"

I'd only nodded glumly, slumping back in my seat without much idea of what to say next, as Maeve and Agnes swiftly went back to their mindless gossip.

They'd left a little while after that, as the men had returned from their fishing trip -- mostly empty-handed from what I understand, but even then, I can't say I noticed. I was thinking a lot about what Maeve had said to me, about showing my gratitude. It is a good idea I must say, I'm just not sure I know what to do with it yet.

What could I possibly give Caleb to show that I'm not as poorly simple as he thinks me to be? I'm certain I'll figure something out, I have to. Else I'm sure I'll go mad, because I don't know what else to do otherwise.

I've been on a Elena/Maeve mood today and while on the bus I started thinking about many things but I wanted to ask you about one in particular, especially because I don't know how these things works in USA.

So, I assume Maeve had money. I don't know how much but if they're meant to be like very popular celebrities I assume she had a considerable amount. What do you think happened to that, if she's "dead"?

Could she have a will? Do you think she left everything to her father? Or maybe even to Elena since she, presumably, didn't have anyone else and still loved her? Or she found a way to get it somehow before going into hiding?

I don't know, just a random thought but I was really curious to hear your take...

oh boy. i HAVE thought about this a bunch, though not for a long time, so let me think back and also do some more quick googling to get together a way too detailed pitch that basically boils down to "celebrities are rich" (i am procrastinating at work lol).

disclaimer that i am not very smart about money shit and just going from casual knowledge and guesses

so, yeah, Maeve certainly has a lot of money. but to try to get a better idea, i'm guessing her net worth in the hundreds of millions range, definitely not billionaire because a billion dollars is a stupid amount and most of the richest entertainers don't even come that close.

I don't think the show gives solid numbers very often but one reference point we have is in the pilot, Madelyn offers the mayor of Baltimore a contract with Nubian Prince for $300 million per year. Even if we assume Vought is taking the majority of that for themselves, that suggests that a Supe like him is getting at least $50-100mil per year as payment. Which makes me think the Seven are probably all getting over $100 mil per year through some combination of salary and other compensation. That's not even getting into how much they might get in terms of merchandising or image rights, etc. And Maeve, I would GUESS is one of the higher paid in the Seven? but then again, maybe not, because of how women are usually paid less in general... but also in episode 1, when Translucent mentions they've all got "four points" (i believe this means 4% stake in merchandising? which tbh would be LARGE for each of them) - then A-Train says "the fuck, you got four points?" (a nice nod to him getting a worse contract as a newer member or bc of racism...) and Maeve adds, "and clearly, better lawyers." which, doing my thing where I take one line of hers and wildly extrapolate from it, says to me she feels good about whatever her contract is so talk about it so glibly, like she knows she has good lawyers & got hers... and she doesn't chime in with what % she gets but seems like its 4 or higher but she's smart enough to keep her mouth shut about it, ANYWAYS none of that matters...

tbh, some of those numbers sound ridiculously high, so idk, but this is a fuckin fictional show about superpowers, so it doesn't matter--

the point is, Maeve probably has a net worth in the nine digits.

I imagine her good lawyers would not allow her to NOT have a proper will laid out for what happens to her money. so there's gotta be some plan in place. I like to believe she explicitly left nothing to her father, just to spite him. idk if he could try legal action to get a piece of it (i dont know much about the law around this stuff) as her next of kin... but I imagine if she had a proper signed will saying he got none, that would stand. I don't know that she would include Elena in her will because that would kinda out her, but maybe if she trusts her lawyer and doesn't care about people knowing after she dies, she would. Or maybe she'd do it secretly, more on that later. given that we don't know anyone else significant in her life, I bet that she specified the majority of her money would go to charity. not out of goodness of her heart, exactly, just that she has nowhere else to give it and that's an easy lazy answer, yknow?

but then idk what happens to the rights to her image, or her profit shares in merchandise/movies after she dies. again, not a lawyer, but when celebs die their rights usually go to their "estate", so maybe her dad would have a say? but also idk if an "estate" is automatically granted to next of kin or if that's something that has to be specified ahead of time in a will (in which case she could deny it to him)... but the most likely outcome in either case seems to be that Vought would own her likeness forever, especially given the comments in the show when A-Train is on the verge of being replaced by Shockwave, that Vought owns his name and will put Shockwave in his costume. (which is a weird thought to me, though, bc A-Train replaced a guy with a different name and costume, why wouldn't they let Shockwave be Shockwave in the Seven? lmfao. maybe that dude was just trying to get A-Train scared.).

All that to say I think the majority of her money would be inaccessible to her after her "death". BUT. I think Maeve being a smart person who clearly wanted out from Vought for a long time probably had an emergency fund set up somehow, whether it was stashing actual physical cash in case she went on the run, or some secret account under a different name she could access in the future (or elena could access). i don't know how people actually do this, but you know who would know? ELENA, who is a banker. and since Maeve and Elena did at some point talk about running away from the Seven together, I bet she told Maeve exactly whatever is the smartest way to hide some of her money so she could take it in an emergency, and Maeve probably implemented that for several years leaving them a sizable amount to live off of post-season-3... even if it's a tiny fraction of Maeve's former wealth.

so by now, the kid is 8/9 ?? if we're saying he joined the BAU at 22 and he's 31 in s8 and his wife is the same age

this is a plot i think about a lot because i think spencer would be veryyyy distant with his wife during this point. with his headaches, he's worried it's schizophrenia and since his dad left his mom over that, he's worried she's going to leave him and take their kid.

and then Maeve comes along during a rough patch and even if he doesn't realize it, Spencer talking to her is seen as more than friendly by Maeve and probably his wife when she finds out.

when he realizes he's fucked up, he'd be so incredibly sorry because he loves his wife more than anything else and he can't imagine being without her. and he does everything he can to make it up to her

i'm unsurprised but,,, kind of disappointed? i expected phoebe and nate as narrators bc phoebe had the most going on by the end of oouin, and karen has repeatedly said nate is her favorite.

i wasn't expecting maeve because her narration has always seemed the weakest in oouin (i've noticed that karen's strong narrations in the oou world are always comparable to some other narrator in one of her stand-alones, but i've never had a perfect maeve comparison).

since nate is a narrator, i didn't expect to have bronwyn, especially since the rojas sisters have been narrating for two books in a row. also it doesn't make sense to have someone who doesn't live in bayview anymore narrate.

knox and nate are too similar. you can't have both.

coop is in the same boat as bronwyn — he's too far removed from bayview now. same argument for kris bc he lives in san diego and he really is a minor character.

addy is unsurprising. if there's an important character, they'll have a connection to her. the only other pov character i can think of who shares that trait is maeve. addy is the sister-in-law of knox's employer. she's phoebe's neighbor. she's besties with the b4 and their partners (partners being kris lol). she's friends with maeve, and she works with luis. ads just makes sense (plus the mystery is def going to revolve around her but that's for my next post).

but what i'm really disappointed about is luis. only two characters have had direct influence in both mysteries, and it's maeve and luis. the rojas sisters have had their moment in the sun (and honestly i'd be upset if it was extended) but luis has been there since day one. he got the license plate numbers, he stood up for coop, he got the video for knox. those things feel small but they had really important repercussions. i guess it's just annoying to see luis as a plot device for two books but then not get recognition.

also, luis is connected to everyone too. he's best friends with cooper and addy and kris. he works with phoebe and he seems friendly with knox (plus he's dating knox's ex). he's dating bronwyn's sister, and nate is his girlfriend's brother in every way but blood relation. plus if it really is jake who's back (see more in next post) then we need his narration. the story won't feel complete without it.

plus it kind of feels like karen has toyed with the idea of a luis narration because mateo and jonah sound a lot like luis would if he had a narration. it's really disappointing not to have him as a narrator.

and in terms of relationships, i feel like maybe cooper/kris and maeve/luis will be sidelined just because of the narrators. natewyn isn't going anywhere, they are the couple of the oou world. and phoebe and knox have a lot of development in their future. coop/kris and maeve/luis are just going to be on the sideline which is disappointing bc we haven't had a lot of cooper/kris and maeve/luis are just starting to date and there's a lot of stuff like trust issues to get through before they're stable.

It has now been two years since I joined the BAU and everyone has treated me like family…except Spencer. I don’t know why he hates me, I don't think I've done anything to deserve it…have I?

My heels click against the tile floor as I exit the elevator, but are soon muffled as I step onto the carpet. Everyone is at their respective desks and I set my stuff down on mine across from Reid. He’s reading a book, a Spencer Reid classic.

JJ is here…so is Tara and Luke. I wonder why he’s not chatting with them.

I sit down at my desk and wait for Hotch or Garciai to say something about a case. I drum my fingers against the desk, trying to keep myself occupied when Garcia walks in the bullpen, a smile on her face.

“Hola crime fighters, I haven’t received word of a case so it looks like the serial killers took a day off,” she chirps happily.

I smile, happy that we have a break from sickos today. My smile fades as I notice a stack of paperwork on my desk. I groan lightly, knowing that today's going to be boring.

“Everyone has a stack of paperwork on their desk so better get to it,” Hotch says, coming out of his office and heading into Rossi’s.

Everyone groans, except Reid. I look over at his desk and papers are nowhere to be found.

Of course he’s already done with it.

I grab a portion of my pile and start working.

It’s a few hours later and I lean back in my seat, my hand in agony from writing so much. I like writing…to an extent. Would I prefer catching serial killers than filling out paperwork all day? Absolutely, but paperwork is necessary unfortunately.

I lean my head back so I’m looking at the ceiling and I sigh, stretching my hand to make the pain go away.

Our job is very intense, I guess you would say. We catch serial killers and a lot of other wackjobs who can make even the most sane person go insane, which is why I introduced “Sanity Checks”. It’s a way we can communicate with each other if we need to take a breather or to talk about something that’s bothering us.

“Sanity check!” I call out.

“All good!” I hear JJ and Luke respond.

“Hanging in there!” Tara calls back.

At this point, I don’t expect Spencer to respond, he never does. On occasion I do look over at him to check on him, but he gives me nothing. Even the most skilled profiler can’t read him when he’s next to me. I’m sure you can read something about him based on his silence but I have no clue why he is the way he is around me.

My alarm goes off, signaling that it’s noon aka lunch time. I set my pencil down and stand up, my stomach growling at the thought of food since I haven’t eaten yet today. Grabbing my lunch bag, I head into Garcia’s tech room. She has a takeout container of chinese food in her hands as she watches something on one of her many computers.

“Hey Penny,” I greet.

She turns around in her chair and smiles at me, “Hey Y/n! How is your paperwork going?”

I groan as I pull up a chair next to her, “I’m barely halfway done. It’s just so much.”

“I would suggest for you to ask for Boy Wonder’s help, but I doubt he would,” she replies.

“He’s been reading books for the past four hours and I’ve been struggling to finish my paperwork. At this rate I’ll have to stay late so I can finish it,” I complain, “I don’t get it, why is he the way he is with me?”

Penelope shrugs, “I have no clue babes, I wish I could help you more.”

I sigh, “It’s okay, I guess I’ll never know.”

I grab the container of food from the bag and open the lid to start eating. I swallow the bite and continue talking.

“I’m guessing you are enjoying your day?” I assume.

She beams, “I am actually, just enjoying my alone time in my cave. It’s nice.”

“I wish I had your skills. Hell I wish I had Reid’s skills too but I don’t,” I frown.

“Well, you are perfectly talented in everything you do. I wish I had your profiling skills, plus you’re a badass in the field. Everyone says so,” Penelope reassures.

I smile slightly, “Thanks Pen.”

I finish my food and continue talking with her until my break is up and I stand up.

“Well, have fun. I’ll see you later?” I say, bidding my goodbye.

“Of course, girl! Good luck,” she replies.

I smile and wave goodbye and head out. Not looking, I accidentally bump into Spencer.

“Sorry, Reid. I didn’t mean to bump into you,” I apologized.

He nods in acknowledgement before continuing to walk. Anger and confusion boils in my blood, and before I knew it I grabbed his wrist and dragged him into Morgan’s old office.

“What are you doing?” he asked as I closed the door behind me and blocked it so he couldn’t leave.

“No, who do you think you are, Spencer? Why is it me that you barely even speak to unless it’s work related? What did I ever do to you?” I interrogate.

The expression on his face quickly turns to anger, “You wouldn’t understand.”

“No, what I don’t understand is why you’re treating me like absolute shit when you’ve welcomed Tara and Luke with no problem whatsoever. Do you understand how that makes me feel?” I yell.

“That’s the thing, Y/n, you’ve done nothing wrong. In fact, you couldn’t do anything wrong even if you tried. The fact that you are absolutely perfect makes me question everything that I’ve ever known,” he confessed.

“Spencer—” I started, “I still didn’t deserve that treatment from you! You hurt me Spencer.”

“I know and I wish I could take it all back but I can’t,” Spencer replies. “There is no possible way that there is a good excuse to explain my behavior but I just want to at least try to.”

I furrow my eyebrows in simmering anger, waiting for him to hear his explanation, “Well?”

He sighs, “Four years ago the woman I thought was it for me, was murdered right in front of me and I couldn’t do anything about it. From then on I promised myself that I wouldn’t fall for anyone else in order to not get hurt. Then you came along and I made the choice to distance myself from you, but I didn’t take into account the pain it would cause me because I hate the way you make me love you. The way you actively make sure that everyone is okay after a tough case, the way you smile, everything about you is so intoxicating and I can't get enough of you.”

I couldn’t speak, there were no words to even come close to responding to all that. I guess he took my silence as a cue to continue because that’s what he did.

“There are no words to tell you how sorry I am and I know that it's a long shot for you to ever forgive me, but I truly am sorry and if there's anything that I can do to make it up to you then I will do whatever it takes for that to happen,” he finished.

I smile, “I have an idea of what you can do.”

He looks at me confused, “What would that be?”

“Take me out on a date and I'll consider forgiving you,” I smirk.

A smile spreads across his face as he says, “I'd be happy to.”

Time for a recap of the last twelve months! It's basically my tradition at this point. This year was a weird one. I'm not even gonna get into real life issues. It sure was something and I'm going into 2023 with no energy and zero expectations, lol. But with this mindset, I can only be pleasantly surprised, right? Or...the world will show me that when you think it can't get any worse, it will.

Anyway, simblr stuff! This is the year I started drifting away from tumblr. It makes me sad, but really, it just isn't the same as it was when I joined. The interaction is not what I wish to get so I'm simply moving to places where I feel like I'm actually heard and seen. Idk. I've tried a few times to "be the change I wanna see" but it's hard to change stuff around here. But oh well, to each their own. I'll probably stick around, even if I hang out more somewhere else and what you see are mostly queued posts. And, well, if twitter burns down, which I wouldn't be surprised if it did, you know I'll fully come back here. I love this hellsite. Genuinely. It makes me mad but I love it.

We're slowly moving onto Bloom's very short generation, as well as gen 3 of my lepacy. It's Ginevra's time to shine, but first, we spent a lot of time with the winners of Axel and August's BC.

Bambi and Candy are born, as well as the BC babies. Loads of baby cuteness in April on this blog. Oh and Ross flourishes in his babysitter era. Well, he's always been a babysitter to his descendants, but I feel like this is where he 100 % accepts it 😂

Gen 3 ends and Sawyer is ready to take over Bridgeport but he has to wait for a bit. Pastel enters the blog and her bonding with Ross is seriously one of my most favourite things. I didn't think of this at first when I was playing, it only came to me later when I was posting the generation, but he definitely grew fond of her because she reminds him of Sunset so much ;-;

Good news: Bambi and Atsuko get married. Bad news: Ross and Caleb break up. *sigh* There's so much to unpack with their breakup storyline. Yes it makes sense that they'd hit a few bumps on the road, yes it makes sense that some of them would be bad, but...deep down, the breakup only happened because of my insecurities and lowkey being afraid of using a townie in my stories. At least I kinda got over that this fall (thank you twitter moots).

More good news: I'm finally posting the BC!!

Sawyer's time to shine has come. Well, not really, his siblings are constantly stealing it. Don't be surprised if he one day, you know, steals their organs and sells them.

Oh, and it's also TS3!Ross's time to shine. Because of course it is. I knew I needed to use his TS3 self somewhere, and all things considered, this felt like a perfect time for that.

December was also the month I started posting videos on youtube. I'm sorry if I'm annoying about that, but I just enjoy it so much. Never thought I'd say that. So, if you haven't yet, feel free to check it out (and subscribe maybe? 🥺). I'm hoping to do some fun stuff next year.

What's in store for 2023? I'll probably talk about that later, but to put it simply, I think this blog will be stuck with NSB and lepacy.

what's wizarding music like in the ttdl universe? i've almost always got music on in the background and especially when i'm studying, but all of your characters are just. they're just sitting there studying and doing homework in silence! that would drive me insane!! so i was wondering what wizarding music is like, how available (? accessable? idk) it is in day-to-day life, and if you know, what are the 5th year slytherins' musical preferences? :)

anon you have hit on something that i think about a LOT and still don't have a totally developed 100% this-is-ttdl-canon answer for, so you're going to get a ramble!! and also INFORMATION ABOUT JOHN DOWLAND

(note from the birl who has completed her ramble - actually, less about john dowland than i anticipated, because i had Restraint because there was too much other stuff to talk about. i also haven't really read anything about dowland in like 2 months so WHAT IF MY INFORMATION ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DIED IN 1626 IS OUTDATED)

i generally think of wizarding technology as being behind muggle technology, for the obvious reason that it is. in the 1990s, they've got radio, but they don't have telephones, television, CD players, or computers

some of this is explained by the 'magic and electricity don't mix!!' principle but i'm a little suspicious of this principle bc... well, because i am afjslkghsjkdf. mostly because of 'how do the radios work then'

so imo the REAL reason wizarding technology is behind is because of, as with many things, Blood Purity Mentality. they're not really inspired to figure out how to adopt these things

so, where are they at in the 1970s? there's still radio - it operates on a ~magical frequency~ that manages to get down into the dungeons of hogwarts, so go magic. i think they have gramophones and even vinyl (just in time for muggles to figure out cassette tapes ajfslkghkjldsf), but a certain class of pureblood will sometimes sneer at vinyl for being Too Muggle.

if we think of wizarding culture as being, say, 15-20 years behind, then vinyl's been around for about 10-15 years, so it's been adopted pretty successfully in wizarding culture, but it's viewed as inferior to live performance (create an idea of scarcity and exclusivity!!!!)

like, with things like pensieves and enchanted art, the idea of recording a song so you can play it again without needing to go to a concert where they happen to play it is less special. can you afford a reasonably-sized enchanted oil painting of a string quartet? if you commission one with a list of your favorite pieces etched into the back of the canvas so it's guaranteed that they'll know the pieces you want to hear, you're good to go, no record player needed

so record players definitely aren't ubiquitous, and they tend to be a little unwieldy, so the only people who are going to be lugging those to hogwarts are people who really care about being able to listen to Specific Music. radios are more common. (people also generally aren't lugging oil paintings of musicians to hogwarts ajfskhgskf - wealthy students interested in music might have a miniature- to medium-sized painting with one to three musicians and up to 8 pieces on their 'setlist')

the rosiers have like. over a dozen small portraits of john dowland with his lute the dream and OH MY GOD i don't have room to talk about this on this post this post is already long and hhhhhhhh ANYWAY. if your family ever acted as patrons for a musician, you've probably got at least a couple of paintings of them lying around

but live music is still definitely viewed as Elite. ghost ensembles are popular to hire for events - they have basically infinite time to practice and learn new pieces, and they really don't ask for much in return beyond an audience and applause. live music performed by live people is Especially elite, bc exclusivity mindset

lucinda grew up listening to popular music on the radio and she got maeve into pop with her - there's definitely a radio in the girls' room, i just can't decide which of the two of them it belongs to ajfslkghlksjdf. charlotte will start pulling her hair out if people are playing music while she's trying to think, so they have a lot of Quiet Hours, but charlotte does a lot of her homework in the library anyway so it's not a huge restriction. emma will beg and plead and bribe people with candy to listen to as many quidditch matches as she can possibly manage - lucinda's usually down to listen to pro matches, but sometimes she'll go 'emma i have literally never heard of those teams' and emma goes 'THEY'RE THE FARM TEAMS FOR THE BRITISH LEAGUE' and that's usually when the bribery starts happening, because lucinda likes quidditch but she doesn't like it That much

(maeve gracefully avoids being dragged into those discussions. she's down for whatever :) which means she does not actually want to listen to an exhibition match between farm teams but emma does so)

evan's got a radio stuffed into his wardrobe somewhere - he usually listens to quidditch matches in the girls' room with emma and other than that he doesn't really care ajfslghsjdkf

barty's family has a ton of records thanks to his mom, spanning a wIDE range of genres - he doesn't really bring any of that with him to school (his trunk is already full of books and, you know, unimportant things like his uniform) but he knows a surprising amount about random things here and there. lots of information from liner notes his mom read aloud. he's a mars the bringer of war basic bitch but i forgive him because it is a banger and aren't we all, and also mars the bringer of war is significantly less basic in wizarding culture because it's a Muggle Composition

and regulus fjslghslkdghjsljk. regulus LOVES his peace and quiet. there's a reason he used to do almost all of his work in their dorm room and only moved out into the common room to be Seen. like charlotte, he would lose his mind a little if he was trying to listen to music and do work at the same time - he'd have to block the music out. no radios or enchanted oil paintings for him

so for regulus, listening to music is an Activity all by itself. he's been to a handful of (classical) concerts, and heard plenty of live music at the more salon-y high society gatherings, but his education in pop music (or other genres of commercial music) is,,,, sub-minimal ajglshkgjsldf. (evan's not much better tbh - lots of those salons are In His House, he's just as immersed in art music as regulus is, except for when he happens to be in the girls' room when they're not listening to quidditch)

i haven't put much thought into the development of magical instruments or techniques, because tbqh i am a singer and things like the mechanics of instruments often totally fail to enter my mind as a thing that should be thought about - now i'm having thoughts about dark arts applied to vocal abilities to build quite literally superhuman voices

but i think that one of the reasons that regulus doesn't listen to a lot of music is because it affects him too much. that boy is repressing so much shit and if he listens to too much beethoven or tchaikovsky or dowland or god forbid a REQUIEM MASS (other than like. fauré's) it's all going to come out

Ooh, thank you for asking! :3 This got away from me and is rambly, so strap in. But first, I’ve got a playlist for her here:

A lot of it is angsty because that’s just the kind of music I listen to lol. It’s a bit of a mix - the first part is sad angsty music, then it goes into a handful of Mae/Crow songs, and then finally into some sort of “happy” songs. I update this every so often, so there will be more OTP and happy songs in the future. I’ve just been a little depressed in the first half of the year, and her playlist has suffered for it 😅

A bonus fact before we get into my rambling is that her tag (Maezi) is a nickname that I imagine Saint giving her. I don’t think I ever said that here, now that I think about it? It really just came about because I was thinking of her normal nickname combined with her last initial, Mae Z. It sounded like Maisy when I said it aloud, and it also sounds like a funny name someone would give her, Saint being an obvious first choice. I spell it like that because her last name is Zin.

Mae is my main guardian, one half of my Young Wolf pair. I only recently started playing D1, so I don’t have a ton of info about that time. For D2, I’ve mentioned in a few random places (so forgive me if you’ve seen this) that I started playing a few months before Forsaken came out and then left sometime around Season of the Drifter, I believe. I didn’t come back until last year, about halfway through Season of Plunder. So there are a lot of gaps in Mae’s story and things that I haven’t really thought about because of having to rely on going back to watch videos on Youtube to absorb the story. So as a general disclaimer, things change in her development A LOT. I know this is normal for OC creation, but I always feel really insecure about it. There are already some things from just a few months ago that I've retconned. So yeah lol

Mae is a jack-of-all-trades hunter who is primarily an arcstrider, sometimes nightstalker (spectral blades). She is capable of using solar light but chooses not to, and doesn’t often rely on either of the Darkness subclasses. For long-range combat, she prefers bows; Wish-Ender and Le Monarque most often (no, I’m not projecting that at all). Melee and close-quarters combat is more of her jam, though. She most often uses hand cannons and SMGs, swords and glaives for actual melee. For armour exotics, it’s a little complicated. In an ideal world, she would wear Liar’s Handshake and have some leg armour that looks like ST0MP-EE5 but don’t necessarily function as they do in game. She wears (fake) stompies because of their bracing; she has a persistent stasis-induced injury to her right ankle that is not easily healed. (Things might have changed on this since BL was quite some time ago, but Ghost repeatedly says in that campaign that there isn’t much he can do to fight stasis. Seems like if you got a shard of that embedded in your skin or in a joint, it would be difficult for a Ghost to heal, even if the shard was removed. That’s my thought process on this little aside.)

This is her canon armour, as long as you pretend that those hardened basilisk vambraces are Liar's Handshake :P

High level overview of what I currently have in mind for her general story — the other half of my little YW pair (Phaeston) dies between Curse of Osiris and Warmind. She handles this pretty poorly. Phaeston had been with Mae since she was revived, and they’re sort of a platonic bonded pair. She feels a little lost without him, feels like it was her fault (WIP), and becomes a bit reclusive. She has a pretty significant shift in personality as a trauma response, going from being a playful hunter to a quiet and solitary lone wolf. Cayde tries to help in his own way, feeling like she may be feeling like he did after Andal died (not that he would ever admit that to her). It only sort of helps and mostly just makes things worse after he dies too. She feels a little skeptical of the Vanguard after she kills Uldren and takes an extended assignment to the Dreaming City to help Petra try to contain the curse cycle. Anything between the end of the Forsaken campaign and Season of the Lost is mostly just a WIP.

Mae is also a Crow-mance because I am weak lol. Loosely, Crow is the one who takes the lead in their relationship and initiates it in the first place. Mae originally takes him under her wing as a sort of protégé, remembering what it was like for her when she was trying to find her footing as a guardian. She also feels mildly guilty for his early life, whether she necessarily should or not. He’s a good catalyst for getting her back to her old self and getting her to reconnect with her friends, but I do want to stress that it’s the early mentor/mentee relationship that does this, not the romantic one.

These days, she’s doing about as well as most guardians can be, I suppose. I haven’t even started thinking about her mental state this season with [potential spoiler] bringing up past regrets for several of the main seasonal cast. I’m still stuck in past seasons 😂 I could ramble on for an eternity about Forsaken and Season of the Haunted if you let me.

God uhhhhh idk if this really answered much of anything, but it’s been 2 hours since I started typing some of this out, so I should just call it here. I’m trying to get better about engaging with ask games again, so hopefully I can answer some specific things in the future.

Honestly this book is mega depressing. I desperately want to feel something other than sadness, and sorrow, and pain. We’re out of Maeve’s clutches, and no longer being tortured, but the psychic damage is real, and it endures.

I kind of don’t even know if I’m going to feel better when Maeve gets destroyed. I know we gotta do it, and I’ll be glad when we do, but for the most part, I don’t feel good about it - I just feel desperate.

It’s kind of the difference when reading a fantasy novel vs a dystopian novel. Saving the world and being a hero. Vs disrupting the unjust system, fighting to bring the villain’s fall. This book is feeling more dystopian than ever. I’m having a hard time rooting for the hero’s because…. Everything sucks right now. And it’s hard to “root” for the downfall of a villain.

I am ready for the actual war to just be over and the characters to have a good day. A day where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. I feel like it’s well earned.

Theories on who the first two routes will be?

Hey!! I did write an answer to this at like 1am yesterday but i was doing it directly in tumblr and... well long story short it's gone now.

But this is something I have Some Thoughts On, so here goes!

I've laid out my thoughts and how I arrived to them here, but if you just wanna see the conclusions, skip down to the bottom!

I start off with some general thoughts on how the routes might be organised/decided, then discuss each character's route and my feelings about them, before finally drawing conclusions at the end.

Did you expect this to be a 1-sentence answer? if you did, you were wrong. HEHEHE

Really interested to see other people's thoughts as well - feel free to discuss in reblogs or tag me if you have something to add :)

General Constraints:

We know the routes will be released in pairs

I think it would be fairly obvious for the pairs to be 1 Seelie and 1 Unseelie LI each

I highly doubt that Keagan and Flannan, or Maeve and Aife will be released at the same time. If it were me, I would have them staggered rather than feast + famine for those who are more interested in women than men, or men than women. Additionally, Keagan and Flannan seem to be the 2 most popular characters, so I would think that releasing them at once would be less strategic on that basis.

That said, I could see Shae and Robin being released at the same time... asterisk. I think that's more likely than M&A or K&F.

Seeing as the secret story can only be unlocked once all the routes have been completed, and the devs specified that each route has something different to add (🥺) I imagine it would go in an order intended with the least spoilers for the other routes

Other options might be something to do with pacing for popularity of characters, or perhaps going for matching in terms of the positions the character holds in the court (e.g. aife and flan are the royals of their respective courts).

RE popularity: the devs have explicitly stated they did not want to base the release of the routes on popular vote.

I'm referring to them in waves - wave #1 = the first 2 routes, wave #2 is routes 3 and 4, wave #3 is routes 5 and 6.

The Love Interests

Shae:

Their route is going to be more of a ghibli-esque adventure and detective route!

I think that this would be a really good candidate for wave #1 because I think it's sweet and would be a really good ramp up

I think that their search for the princess would give us some really interesting context + information about the war, and be quite good for teasing/setting up at least a few of the other character's routes (esp Aife & Flannan, likely having had the most close story to the princess. possibly even Keagan if the battle where he helped turn the tide was the one where the princess had to escape?) without actively giving away all of their secrets.

That said though, I do think that the princess is going to be hidden somewhere on Unseelie territory, so I'm hoping for some Shae/ Flannan interactions <3

Keagan:

His route is gonna have intrigue and mystery, trying to unravel the past, weave the threads of the future and unfurl the mystery of the master of secrets himself.

He is the master of secrets and he is GOOD at his job. I think he knows a LOT. He definitely knows Aife's secrets, and if my Keagan/Flannan have 👀 History theory is correct, then he'll know rather a lot about Flan as well. He knows a bit about Shae (but underestimates them, so perhaps not everything) and about Maeve. He knows the least about Robin (much to his chagrin).

I think that he has so much dirt on everyone that his route will come late because he'd know too many spoilers for the other routes lol. (Much as it pains me to say this.)

But devs - feel free to prove me wrong heheh. In fact, I welcome it.

Aife:

I think her route is going to revolve around her mysterious and suspicious rise to the throne, the difficult choices she had to make (and has to make, as queen of a realm in a recent and uneasy truce with their next door neighbours). About trust and the snakes in the grass of the seelie court.

This one I also think is quite a strong candidate for wave #1

She met Keagan when she was doing... whatever nefarious deal she did for her power. I don't think that she knows as much about him/his past as he knows about her. She doesn't seem to have met any of the unseelie, and I'm not sure if she fully knows about Shae, other than thinking that they are a traitor. So her route would not contain heavy spoilers I think.

In fact, I think her route would be a good one in terms of like opening up the world of TNN for us a bit and introducing us to its players and the landscape and the game.

Maeve:

Her route I think will involve MC helping her in her efforts to try and stabillise the region. Fighting those monsters hinted at in asks? Tracking down the bandits? Sorting out the food insecurity? Watching her have her magical girl transformation and also making eyes at her?

I feel like this will in some ways mirror or foil or complement Shae's route, in terms of being quite adventurous and involving a lot of exploration - great introduction to the Unseelie territories. Also, they're both very ... close to the people I think? Down to earth.

Maeve I think is also a good candidate for wave #1 or wave #2 for those reasons.

She's approachable and kind, but also a badass who isn't afraid to throw down. There's some trauma and tragedy in her backstory which will be so fun to explore and see how she became the woman she is today.

Flannan:

His route I think will consist of trying to find out what happened to his father, and also him grappling with whether or not he wants to go back to war. He definitely seems fairly set on going back to war, or thinking about it at least. And certainly angry that the unseelie position is significantly weakened without their figureheads.

He also obviously cares for his citizens, despite being very stern and seeming humourless. War isn't really good for the common folk regardless, so perhaps that's something that would also hold him back.

I think he would be a good candidate for wave #2, because the whole bombshell at the end of the demo is just so damn INTRIGUING!! I feel like it will reveal a fair amount of tangled web threads. But he doesn't know everything.

It could also be a good candidate for wave #1, since the reveal at the end of the demo is directly about the main plot thread (that we know of) for his route! So it would follow on very naturally.

However, I just have a gut feeling pointing him towards wave 2. I don't know why.

Robin:

I have no idea what their route will involve tbh. They seem like an open book but they are NOT. They seem to have some beef with the druids, they are friends with Daonna, and Keagan said they take an interest in us, MC. If I were to hazard a wild guess, a stab in the dark, I'd say perhaps they might want to get some kind of revenge...

I think that Robin as a character needs you to have some time to warm up to them before you will utterly fall in love with them (obviously some people fell in love with Robin straight off the bat! but for me, and some other people I am aware of, I fell in love with them over time)

Therefore I think they are unlikely to be in wave #1 - I think they'll be a bit of an antagonist in other routes first, so you sort of get used to them being around and their antics - both annoying and irritating, setbacks and actually helpful

I think Robin is likely to be wave #2 or #3 and I would probably bet on route #3 because I think that would be lots of time given so that you build up a picture of them in your head.

However, Robin's persona and their inner feelings are very different, I think. They are lonely, and they want to be loved and accepted and wanted for who they are.

So I think that this hidden angst coming out for a whammy in wave #3 would work very well.

Conclusions

Frankly, I think that Shae and Aife would be my first guess for wave #1, if it weren't for the fact that I am fairly confident that it will be 1 seelie and 1 unseelie. But I am more confident in that than in anything else.

I am fairly sure that Aife and Flannan's routes will be released at the same time. Call it a hunch. I think they would just complement each other well, plus, you are not immune to propaganda. It would be more balanced to be exposed to seelie and unseelie royal propaganda at once lol.

I'm fairly sure that Keagan will come out in wave #3, and I actually convinced myself while writing this post that Robin will too.

That would leave Shae and Maeve coming out together as well.

Final Answer:

I'm thinking that wave 1 will be Shae and Maeve; wave 2 will be Aife and Flannan, and wave 3 will be Robin and Keagan.

other than with your f/o(s), how are your insert’s relationships with other characters like? have they made any close friends or enemies+ how did that happen?

my best friends are absolutely emily and penelope. jj and i are also close, but we don't get to see each other often because of her family commitments. also, we sort of fell off after she confessed her love to my husband while they were being held hostage.

derek has always been like an older brother to me. he also lowkey wingman-ed me and spencer for a long time. i grew up around rossi a lot because he was good friends with my father, so i see him as an uncle.

what about their reputation, are they well known outside of their circle? what do others initially think or assume about them?

i worked in hostage negotiation before i joined the bau, and there i was known pretty well. i hate to brag, but i was very good at my job there and was on my way to a promotion before i transferred.

what were your f/o(s) first impression of them? vice versa, what was your insert’s first impression of your f/o(s)?

i've talked about this a lot, but spencer initially was pretty standoffish towards me. i didn't have anything against him, in fact i thought he was sweet, but he didn't seem to want to talk to me. this led to a confrontation where i asked him why he hated me so much, and he admitted he just "gets nervous around pretty girls".

our hobbies! we both really enjoy reading and writing in our free time. our personalities are largely the exact same.

my s/i isn't nearly as sensitive as i am. being in the fbi, you can't let things get to you too much.

how would they spend their day to day in your f/os’ universe? do they have a job or any other daily commitment? a routine they follow?

most of my time is spent at the bau office. when i'm not there or on a case, i'm relaxing at home. sometimes spencer and i have movie nights, and every third friday of the month, the bau girls go out for drinks.

does your insert come into the story and what part do they play in it? how do they fit into everything, and how does the story change with them involved?

cm is more of an episodic show than anything, but i do play into some of the overarching plots. most notably, i was the only person to actually reach out to spencer after revelations and make sure he was doing okay. i helped him through withdrawals and that made us much closer.

also, the maeve plotline just did not happen. she does not exist. boo. that plot is instead replaced with me being kidnapped by the replicator (the unsub of that season, who was replicating previous crimes solved by the bau). he was attempting to replicate spencer's kidnapping from s2, but he didn't get far enough to drug me, luckily.

give us a brief (or not-so-brief) summary of their backstory! how did they end up wherever they are? memorable moments? etc.

usually business casual & comfortable enough to run after unsubs if needed. it's often stuff like this:

i think i'd often get misinterpreted as the sunshine-y & innocent one. i also think a lot of reid girls wouldn't like me.

how does your insert look like: are they an exact copy of you? are they you, but with minor adjustments? (e.g they have a tattoo, different hairstyle or eye color, etc)

they're me, just a little older and more mature.

what does their living environment look like? is it minimally decorated, messy or super high tech & futuristic? is it a place you could actually/want to live in?

my apartment kind of a controlled chaos space. there's lots of plants and books as decorations. it's very bright and i try to let in as much sunlight as possible. it's a happy space, somewhere i can get away from work. something very much like this:

my father helped to found the bau with gideon and rossi, but he passed away when i was young. because of that, i saw the two of them (rossi more often) a lot and they became like uncles to me.

as of criminal minds: evolution, spencer and i have three children: annabel, jason, and ruthie (oldest to youngest). annabel was born around s10, jason around s13, and ruthie after we left the bau after the finale in s15.

How do you feel about the implication that Madelyn had groomed Homelander? I’ve always felt like it was … kind of yikes.

yeah, so, I've mentioned a couple of times my dislike for what diabolical 8 does to the show continuity/characterizations, and this is one of those issues for me. homelander straight up tells maeve he's known her the longest, which conflicts with what diabolical 8 tells us (that he would have known madelyn longest, followed by black noir) and I feel like it takes the rug out from homelander and madelyn's interactions through s1. madelyn and homelander have such an interesting, complicated build up. his fixation on her has clearly gotten significantly worse since she had a baby. to me, madelyn's trepidation with homelander doesn't make sense for someone who's been grooming him for over twenty years. during s1 her sexual advances felt more like tentative, desperate attempts to control him when he was spiraling in a way she didn't know how to handle. it was the culmination of years of tension and subtle manipulations. that's why homelander reacts so strongly to it to me. because it's new for him, and he desperately craves it. the scene where she tells him "we need boundaries!" really feels like this is new territory for them. the vibe I always got from them was that madelyn came into his life when he was more established. homelander does NOT respond well to male authority, there's clearly a lot of tension there from the get-go with stan edgar. I think homelander hugely resents this mysterious figurehead who never pays him enough attention. yet another failed father figure. then in comes madelyn, and suddenly homelander is a lot more cooperative with her. meanwhile, she's now dealing with a deeply damaged, emotionally stunted man with world-ending super powers who is projecting a lot of complicated feelings onto her. I'd be scared, too! which isn't to say she's innocent by any means. the callousness she shows towards him when he opens up to her about how hard it is to give an interview in his fake childhood home stuck with me in a real yucky way. at the end of the day... it's yikes either way! all of it is bad, whether she groomed him or not. madelyn is in a scary situation, and homelander is horrifically abused by vought as a whole. I personally have no problem with exploring uncomfortable and dark themes like this, but this one in particular just... didn't really make sense to me, or how I interpreted their interactions in the show.
