#I'm hoping that once I have my schedule all sorted I can get back to drawing with more regularity :)

So I'm warming up to the idea of Cable now with this new animation style. And now I can't help but imagine a mutant reader seeing him shirtless for the first time 👉🏽👈🏽. Maybe she's helping him treat a wound he cant reach on his back and he's too worn out to rely on his telekinesis for it. Sure she knows that he has a metal arm. Techno-organic viruses were nasty business. But she never imagined she'd get to see the stark contrast of metal and flesh up close. Just a tender moment where she gets to see him at his most vulnerable. Preferably sfw. Sorry if this is too long winded or specific. Really love your writing and enjoy what you share with us regardless if u choose this one or not 🫶🏽

SFW!Cable/GN!Reader OOOOGHHHH when I tell you I have been thinking about this since you sent me the ask!! I've been dying to write this but forced myself to follow a schedule :( I've never really been a Cable girly but this scenario has been in my head non-stop! I just hope this fic does the same to others!!! Speaking of which, I hope this isn't too OOC for him! This also might get a pt 2 with some smooching 😘
Read pt. 2 Here :)
-Ps- Heads up, finals week is coming up for me and I have a lot of essays and work to do. my writing is sadly going to slow down a bit. I don't think I'm going to close requests for now but it's not out of the realm of possibility! TWs: Can't really think of any. Gross depictions of techno-organic shit. As always, Reader written while picturing fem! but no pronouns mentioned. The reader is short in this one, sorry to all my Amazonian friends.

Prime sentinels were like wasps. Squashing one could be relatively easy with the right tools, but it was difficult to handle multiples at once. It had been a rough day, and your ears were still ringing from the sounds of blaster fire when you got to the safe house. Your hands are shaking from the adrenaline, body exhausted from overusing your mutant powers. Bruises are forming all over you, and despite the pain and soreness, you know you got off easy compared to Cable.
He’s got an arm slung around your shoulder, using you as a crutch as you help him limp over to the table- although you’re sure you’re not a very good one, too short for him to properly lean on. His gun clanks on the floor as he sits, grunting as the movement sends shooting pains through his body. You can tell his left arm is aching, the techno-organic virus fighting to beat the telekinetic powers keeping them still. You weren’t the only one who overdid it today, but you also weren’t the one who had to keep a virus from eating you alive.
Once Cable is settled, the routine starts. You cautiously make a round through the safe house, making sure blinds are drawn and entryways secured. Usually, the task was split between the two of you, being faster and safer than it would be alone- but he would take it over when you were badly hurt. It was only natural that you would do the same. You feel the sting of anxiety and worry in your heart. Cable had saved your ass today. He had done so many times, but normally the fighting wasn’t this extreme. You had been stupid, and he was suffering the consequences.
A series of pained grunts lead you back into the kitchen once you’ve finished, and you can tell Cable is pissed just by the tone of them. You’re facing his back when you walk in, noticing the large red stain that spans across the width of his shoulders. You try to hide the worry on your face as you approach him. He has the medkit sprawled out on the counter, sorting through the various items in it.
“Can’t believe this thing doesn’t have a damn mirror.” He grunts. You hum in response, looking him over before examining the items on the table.
“What do you need a mirror for?” You ask, voice coming out a little hoarse. You clear your throat, must be from the smoke earlier. Cable sends you a look, tossing his head towards his back. You mouth an “oh” before looking at him, unable to hide your worried expression. You’d seen him stitch his wounds up with his telekinesis before, when the fight was all guns and no powers. An action like that was child’s play for someone of his capabilities. For him to actively avoid it, and the way his arm seemed to be bothering him more than normal… It made you worried. It made you feel guilty.
You look down at the suture kit, open on the table from where Cable had unzipped it, and then look back at him, wordlessly asking. He gives you a cautious look for a moment, before it shifts into something much softer. He doesn’t bother nodding, choosing to simply take his shirt off instead.
You blush a little but quickly get to work, grabbing a pair of gloves and pulling them on. They’re too big for you, meant to fit Cable’s sturdy hands instead of your own smaller ones. You try not to get distracted by the sight of him shirtless as you pick up what you need and get behind him. The air has shifted between the two of you, forming into something a little more intimate. Something that builds itself on words unspoken, truths that neither of you is quite ready to communicate yet.
His back is broad and beautiful, dotted with scars and bruises. The gash on his shoulders is from a stray blast, starting at the top of his left shoulder and ending at the lower shoulder blade of his right.
You’re not sure if you had been ready to see the cut-off between flesh and metal.
The cords of metal attach to the skin of his shoulder in a way that makes your skin crawl. They sprout from underneath the skin, winding against each other in a way that makes no clear sense to you. The top layers of skin are rough, keloid scarring having formed at the impasse of skin and metal. It's horrific, the way the virus has both eaten and forced its way under the skin. The top of the gash is somewhat deep, the deep inner cording revealed by the wound cutting through the top of his skin has you unable to look away despite the horror that has taken you.
“I can feel you staring, you know.” Cable’s rumbling voice causes you to snap back to reality.
“Right. Sorry. I didn’t mean to…” You trail off, not fully able to place the words. He sighs, and you mistake it for annoyance. You quickly get back on track and begin to disinfect the wound. Cable hardly flinches as you do so. You’re overly cautious as you stitch him up, focusing on each stitch being perfectly placed. You know they wouldn’t stay for long. Cable had a habit of tearing his stitches. You hope that maybe you’d be able to keep that from happening this time.
You place both hands on his shoulder blades when you are done. The nerves have worn off as the pseudo-doctor in you took over. You’re trying to examine the stitches, but find that your attention keeps being drawn back to that stark contrast of his shoulder. If Cable notices, he doesn’t say anything. You glance at the back of his head, trying to gauge what he’s feeling.
Your left hand drifts a little. Cable shudders as your thumb gently traces that line of scarring, the metal of his arm feeling extra cold compared to the heat of his skin. You’re waiting for him to say something. To tell you to back off. To grumble and shake you off and avoid speaking to you like he used to when you first started to work together- when he was so determined not to get attached.
But he doesn’t say anything. Not at first, anyway. The tenseness of his shoulders slowly gives as the gently touching morphed into more purposeful touches, working the stiff muscles- what was left of the organic ones, anyway.
It’s intimate. It’s quiet. It’s… nice. Part of you wishes it would last a little longer. Part of you wishes he would let you touch him like this more often.
Cable stiffens again as the thought crosses your mind, recoiling away from you. He stands suddenly, turning around to face you. His towering stature used to make you nervous out of fear. Now you’re nervous for a completely different reason. Part of you had forgotten about the glimpses he takes into your mind. A flicker of anxiety ignites when you realize how much he might have seen. The two of you just look at each other for a moment, his brown eyes hard compared to the softness from earlier. You hadn’t meant to think so much. You didn’t think he was horrific. It was the virus. What it was doing to him. The energy and effort it takes out of him. That was what scared you.
Cable was used to the stares. The horror. Most recoiled at the sight of his flesh. It only made sense to him when you did too.
But Nathan… Nathan wasn’t ready for the depth of your thoughts. The care in your eyes. He wasn’t ready for the depth of his own feelings. The ones that cause such a storm within him. The ones that cause him to be stupid. The ones that make him focus more on saving you than the goal of every mission.
“Is this… Are we okay?” You ask. He didn’t need to be a telepath to sense the fear that has swelled within you. Most of your emotions were always written on your face. It made things easier for him when he didn’t have to search for your thoughts. That hardness in his eyes softens yet again, and he glances away for a moment.
“... Yeah.” Is all he says. His heart feels light when you finally smile at him, even though an underlying nervousness still resides behind that smile. You let out a relieved sigh, and he can’t bear to look at you any longer. Instead, he sits back down. He faces away from you, giving you the space to finish taking care of the wound on his back.
You don’t realize how late it is until you’re finished, and the mess on the counter has been cleaned and contained back in the medkit. The two of you sit together as you eat. The food isn’t great- consisting of an MRE that’s not exactly as advanced as the futuristic weapons and technology would lead you to believe. He doesn’t say anything when you lean on his shoulder, or when your breathing evens out, having fallen asleep on his side.
The aches and pains don’t really bother Nathan as he carries you to bed, but the thoughts of you, your feelings, your thoughts… Those keep him awake longer than any wound would.

A bunch of sketches for the protag!kairi au! These are ideas and sketches that have been sitting on my computer that I’ve finally gotten an opportunity to clean up :) Tarzan is an interesting first world in KH and in terms of the AU I think perhaps Kairi could relate to Tarzan in someways. And I still like the idea that Kairi would still be working on the lucky charm or something happens to it that she needs to use materials from other worlds to fix/finish it. The others are more brainstorming for Riku and now Sora. I just can’t see Sora sitting doing nothing after he wakes up and so I think he would pester Leon into teaching him or, if he’s stuck in Traverse Town after the crew goes to Hollow Bastion, he’d take it upon himself to learn something about gummi ships and travel! He’d want to do as much as he can to help Kairi and save Riku! So, some sketches of him hanging out at the accessory shop and with Geppetto :)

They left me no choice.
The animation industry is an absolute trash fire right now, and TBH... I don't think it's going to recover. Not in a form I recognize, anyway.
I could go on all day about the self-hating monster that is the Animation Business, but I've said it all before. Right now, none of the major studios are making much of anything, and almost all of what they are making is "library content". I'm currently doing storyboard revisions alongside a number of other former producers and directors, and I'm lucky to have the work. Once all of the mismanagement and the mergers get sorted, though, there should be plenty of room for more mismanagement and mergers. And the A.I. Don't forget the A.I.
It seems that I either give myself over fully to the souring corporate teat in the hopes that I can pretend that I still live in a world where "the grind" matters. Or I take a risk and make one big push to do... something.
First up:
Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry:
This is my interview/reality/documentary show on the making of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy from stem to stern. I'll be talking to as many people as I can who worked on the show about all sorts of different parts of the process. We'll definitely get to voice actors, but the first segment is probably going to be about Billy & Mandy's pre-history and the Big Pick Weekend.
The Upward Expedition:
This is my pick for my indie show. I have a bible. I have a decade of ideas. Time to sit down and tell a story. I want to get some screen sharing going at some point. I'll definitely share artwork as well as the trials and tribulations of getting from There to Back Again.
I'd love to get a Discord server going and provide a place where people can talk about the stuff I'm making (and the entertainment industry in general). I still have enough Billy & Mandy swag left that I'm sure I'll factor that stuff in as well.
In the immediate future, the funding goes to securing a space to do the interviews and probably to banking money for voice actors. I'm still deciding on my update schedule, but it should start in earnest next week.
I'm excited. Pretty scared... but also excited.
More updates to come. Definitely let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see on the Patreon!
As always, thanks for sticking around!

Jing Yuan the... Lion
✧ jing yuan x gn!reader
✧ based on the ask: how would the characters react when jing yuan somehow magically transforms into a lion (like mimi) for a day? x reader is ok!! - requested by @/ephemeralyae
✧ contents: humor, established relationship, fluff, mentions of other characters
✧ a/n: i've noticed a certain pattern with my writing sideblogs, and that is the fact that i'll always get this sort of request HAHA. And in line with similar patterns, this will be the first post written in a headcanon format! i went the x reader route with just a hint on how characters would react (not that big of a reaction, moreso what they have to do in this situation) so i hope it was okay!
not beta-read again lmfao.
Tumblr media
✧ He is as confused as everyone else with this situation. One moment he's sitting idly by his office, writing on his desk and the next moment he's left staring dumbfoundedly at a gigantic paw quite similar to the paws he squishes quite frequently back at home.
✧ Is the quick rundown you're given when you arrive at the Seat of Divine Foresight along with Fu Xuan and Yukong - having been frequently spammed with incoherent messages from Qingzu in the span of a few minutes.
✧ And although this very much is a serious situation - nevermind the mystery that the Divine Foresight is always absent from his usual seat, if he actually stays in this lion form for more than a day everything onboard the luofu will be behind schedule and he will for real be absent from the Seat of Divine Foresight because he's going to be taken in by the alchemy comission to figure out how to turn him back.
✧ And yet, as everyone is scrambling around trying to figure out a solution to turn him back and a reason to why he specifically was turned only - you're just left staring straight back at the lion with soft white hair and golden eyes who seem all to relaxed when staring back at you.
✧ Heck the tail is even comfortably swaying back and forth - even though he's well aware of the chaos he's caused.
✧ "... You know everyone in this room is in a disarray because of you, right?" a small roar that oddly sounded like his usual laugh, "... Yukong have to be able to discreetly send a message to the other flagships without even alerting anyone else in the Palace of Astrum, you are aware of that, correct?" you swear you saw the lion nodding his head.
✧ "... Master diviner Fu Xuan is going to have a lot more on her plate with this added problem, you agree to that right?" you ask once more, the lion only gave you a closed eyed smile.
✧ "Yanqing will be disappointed when you're not going to spar with him today, you've already avoided it for the past 2 weeks and you promised him today," the lion merely turns his head around, promptly ignoring you with a side glance of mischief.
✧ How can he be a scoundrel even when turned into a lion.
✧ "... Mimi would probably attack you the moment she spots you," you settle on saying. And somehow that information alone was enough for the once relaxed state of the lion to be in distress. Jing Yuan's once laid down form springing back into all fours - the sudden action making Qingzu who were still sorting out documents yelp.
✧ "... You know you could've tried saying you would leave him to see if he would react," Fu Xuan comments as the lion before the two of you makes his way over, "I think he would die on the spot if I said that, now how do we get him to-" you're unable to finish your answer back to the master diviner when you're suddenly pounced on by Jing Yuan.
✧ And as anyone would've expected, the much heavier weight makes you topple down to the floor with a loud bang.
✧ "... Did he already gain some feline traits?"
✧ You're unable to answer the question, desperately slamming your fist down on the lions mane before you're able to wriggle your head away from the amount of fur in your face, "Jing Yuan-" you wheeze, "I'm barely able to carry you while you're human, what made you think I can carry you when you weigh close to 200 kilograms?!"
✧ The lion seemed to not care, merely nuzzling his nose against your hair while making no move to actually get off of you.
✧ "... You know what, let's just call the healers down here and leave him here for the day. I have other business to attend to and Yanqing is already blowing up my phone asking where this idiot is," you say, tapping the lion on top of you on the nose before letting your hands tousle the mane, blinking in surprise at how oddly soft it was.
✧ "... On second thought I'll stay here until the healers come," you rephrase, continuing to run your hands through the mane, Jing Yuan seeming to purr in content at the excessive rubbing.
✧ So this is why Mimi is so content whenever you would excessively rub her everywhere.

When Bradley parked at work a little early on Monday, he sat in the Bronco for a few extra minutes. He had just witnessed you and Noah making breakfast together, and it was making it really hard to be away from you right now. When he walked into the kitchen, you were brewing coffee and singing the dinosaur song with his son while the two of you spread that weird avocado stuff that you liked so much on some toast. He had started to love it, too, and Noah would eat anything you made.
He removed his aviators and pinched the bridge of his nose. There was so much he wanted to get done this week, including looking at a few engagement rings, but he knew better than to make any sort of excuses to get some time alone. That had nearly backfired on him when he went to get Skittles. He was going to have to get creative somehow.
When he pulled out his phone to call the animal shelter about getting Skittles' cast removed, he froze. Across the parking lot, Nat and Javy were both getting out of his car. "Interesting," he muttered to himself as he watched his best friend groping their coworker, and he grimaced. He'd already seen too much.
"Hello, this is the San Diego shelter. How can I help you?"
Bradley nearly dropped his phone; he'd forgotten he was making the call. "Yeah, hi. I need to schedule an appointment to have my dog's cast removed?"
"Oh! Are you talking about the Yorkie?"
He smiled as he climbed out onto the already hot pavement. "Yeah. Skittles. I'm hoping she has sufficiently healed."
"Why don't you stop in on Wednesday and we can check her out."
"Sounds good, thanks," he replied, following Nat and Javy at a very conservative distance. But apparently he wasn't cautious enough.
"So," Nat sighed once Bradley joined her in the hangar, "you saw Javy and I in the parking lot." It wasn't a question, so he decided to just nod and roll his eyes in response. "Oh, come on, Rooster. I'm just having some fun."
"Look at him," Bradley muttered, glancing to where the man in question was smiling at Nat. "Are you serious right now? You want to make him cry or something?"
Now she was the one rolling her eyes. "I'm not taking advice from you. You're historically terrible at dating."
"I'm doing a pretty good job now," he said, smiling as he thought about you.
"You can't even get Cyclone off your girl."
Bradley covered his face with one big palm. "You noticed that?"
Nat laughed. "Everyone at the botanic gardens on Saturday night noticed that."
"Fuck," he groaned. "If she wasn't so young and so fucking hot, I wouldn't be about to embarrass myself by trying to get him to let me fly in the air show."
She just shook her head as she reached for her helmet and muttered, "Oh, cry me a river."
"Hey." Bradley turned just in time to see Javy greeting the two of them like a puppy looking for Nat's attention. He was honestly worse than Skittles at the moment. "The guys are talking about a beach day this weekend. You know, since the summer is ending."
"We don't need to do another beach day. We live in San Diego," Nat replied as she sipped the coffee she wasn't supposed to have inside the hangar. "It's the same season all year round."
Javy laughed like she was a comedian, and Bradley looked back and forth between the two of them, completely baffled by this dynamic. There's no way you and he made a couple this wild.
"Yeah, but it's still the end of August," Javy said, now smiling at Nat as if she was the most adorable thing in the world. "Rooster, you can bring your girl and your kid. It'll be fun."
"You know what," he replied, "I think I'll go if Nat goes."
Then Bradley strolled away as they started arguing, because he saw Admiral Simpson on his way to the tower. He just needed to get Cyclone alone for a few minutes, swallow his pride, and try to head Jake off for the air show. The opportunity arose after lunch when Bradley caught him checking his phone outside the rec room door.
"Admiral Simpson, sir," he greeted before grinding his back teeth while he thought about you. "May I have a word?"
Cyclone glanced up before pocketing his phone, a look of vague amusement on his face. "Lieutenant. What can I do for you?"
"It's about the upcoming air show. Sir. I was hoping you could tell me if you'd made selections regarding who would be flying in it."
His look of amusement grew. "I have not. I believe that was on my agenda for today or tomorrow." He paused before adding, "I've been meaning to thank you for that glass of bourbon on Saturday night. Woodford Reserve is one of my favorites."
Bradley remained unflinching. Although he had no idea what Admiral Simpson was talking about, he thought it better to simply agree with him. "Yes. The Woodford Reserve."
He nearly took a step backwards when the other man started laughing. "You'll have to thank your girlfriend for me, too. And I'm assuming the reason you're here is because you want to fly in the air show?"
"Yes...sir," Bradley replied slowly, feeling very off balance now that Cyclone was being so agreeable.
Still chuckling, he said, "I'll see what I can do," before turning and walking away.
Once he was out of earshot, Bradley pushed through the door to the rec room as he muttered, "What the fuck was that?"
-----------------------------
It was almost fun for you to pick Noah up from daycare now. Not that you would ever admit that out loud. But the enjoyment you found in the way Casey pouted at you was a bit of a guilty pleasure, and besides, you got to have Noah greet you like you were the most exciting and interesting person in the world.
"Mommy!" he called out as he ran across the lobby and into your arms. "Guess what my craft is!"
"A dinosaur?" you asked as you shot an extremely fake smile at Casey before heading outside.
"Nope."
"A... dog? Did you make Skittles?" you asked as you put him in your car.
"Nope."
"The solar system?"
"Nope."
"Hmm. Will you give me a hint?" you asked, brushing his soft curls away from his forehead and giving him a kiss. But he was already unzipping his bag and pulling out his newest painting. There was a big, light blue shape that looked like it could have been Bradley's Bronco along with a man who appeared to be sporting a mustache. "Is that Daddy?"
"Yes!"
Then you noticed a little brown blob. "Is that Skittles?"
"Yes! She's his best friend!"
You laughed, because Noah wasn't wrong. Skittles seemed to love Bradley the most, and as much as he tried to fight it, the dog won him over. "She is," you agreed before buckling him in. "She's his best friend besides Aunt Natasha."
Noah shook his head. "She doesn't count, because she's an Aunt."
"Right, right," you said, not wanting to fight his childhood logic when Skittles wasn't even a human. "You're completely right. Should we go home?"
You started singing the dinosaur song as you drove, and because of a detour, you had to drive past the park where Meredith had chased you down. A shiver rippled through your body as you remembered falling and scraping up your arm in your haste to get Noah safely in your car. You hated coming home this way. There was a reason you never did it.
"Mommy, why did you stop singing?"
You glanced in the mirror at Noah's face. "Sorry! Where were we? The part about how the dinosaur stomp, stomp, stomps?"
Bradley was already home when you pulled into the driveway, and you found him dozed off on the couch with Skittles curled up on his chest. Two seconds later, he was jolting awake with the dog in his hand as Noah ran for him. "Daddy! I made you! Out of paint!"
"Cool," Bradley told him, pulling Noah onto his broad chest as well. "And how's Mommy?" he asked, his voice a little raspier just for you. "How was your day, Princess?"
You shook off the last remaining thoughts of Casey and Meredith as you leaned down to kiss him. "Pretty good." He chased your lips for more, but his arms were too full of Noah and Skittles for him to be able to reach for you. "Looks like you're still tired from the weekend," you said with a wink.
"I had a nice conversation with Cyclone today."
"Oh? About what?" you asked as you started to head to the kitchen to make dinner.
His expression remained completely neutral as he told you, "Bourbon. Woodford Reserve, to be specific." When you said nothing, he added, "We can chat about it later."
So you made spaghetti, knowing you'd been found out. You had been tipsy on Saturday night at the retirement party, but you were pretty sure you remembered what you did. Probably. You hoped Bradley wasn't mad at you over it, but he seemed to be in a good mood as he ate dinner and offered to give Noah a bath while you walked Skittles.
She was stubborn for you at first, plopping down on the front porch and whimpering for Bradley while you tugged gently on her leash. "Come on. You're making me look bad! You were my idea. Mine and Noah's." When she remained in her spot, you had to reach into your pocket and say, "Treat?" That did the trick, and you got her to take a slow lap around the block with you while you broke a milkbone into little bites and gave it to her.
When you returned home, Skittles bounded into the house to get to Bradley where he was sitting on the bathroom floor, looking comically enormous with Noah's rubber duck in his hand. You stood in the doorway and watched him automatically reach down to pet the little pup, taking caution with her casted leg while he rinsed the shampoo out of Noah's hair.
"You want to go to the beach this weekend, Bub?" he asked softly. "With Aunt Natasha?"
"Can Skittles come?" Noah asked, and you watched Bradley place a soft kiss on his wet forehead that left you reeling. Suddenly you couldn't wait for Noah to be in bed so you could have him all to yourself.
"Maybe. If she gets her cast off on Wednesday," he replied softly as the dog fully plopped down with her head on his thigh.
"Daddy?" you asked from your spot in the doorway. It was almost a whine, and when he looked up at you, you were certain he knew what you were thinking about by the little smirk on his lips.
He reached into the tub to drain the water as he asked, "Do you need some attention?"
You just nodded, still in your scrubs from work, but you felt too warm now as you pressed your thighs together. "Yes."
"Fifteen minutes, and then you can have it," he replied with an edge to his voice. "Can you wait that long?"
"I can try," you murmured before you turned to go into Noah's room and get his dinosaur pajamas ready. Anything to expedite bedtime. You listened while Bradley took his time reading three stories, and then you kissed Noah's forehead before you tried to pull Bradley toward the hallway.
He chuckled and whispered, "I'll meet you on the couch."
"Oooh, the couch," you said before running from the room. Before you could even decide what you wanted to do, Bradley was behind you wrapping his arms around your waist and tickling your neck with his mustache.
"I kind of miss those nights when I would help you study."
You moaned softly. "Anatomy really is your specialty."
You felt him pull his right hand away from your body, but before you could complain, it reappeared in front of you with a bag of Skittles on his palm. When you spun in his arms and kissed him, you whispered, "You're so sweet."
Bradley lifted you up and took you the few steps to the couch where you settled in straddling his lap while you opened your candy. "If you're this excited about something I picked up at the gas station, I wonder what you'll do if I buy you something a little more expensive."
You met his soft eyes and leaned in to kiss him. "How much more expensive are we talking?" you asked, treating him to the orange Skittle you pulled out of the bag. He parted his lips and you slipped it between them, watching his jaw work as he chewed it up.
"A lot more expensive," he replied as you ate three candies. "Hey, this is a 50/50 relationship here, Princess."
You shoved a small handful into his mouth and kissed his cheeks as he sputtered and chewed. "I'll share everything I have with you. Too bad I don't have much."
Bradley swallowed down the treat and reached for your free hand. "You give me everything I need. Everything I want, too."
You basked in the warmth of his words as your eyes closed, and a welcome heat crept into your cheeks. "I love you."
"Then I think you'll love what I'm planning on buying for you," he whispered as his mustache grazed your chin and jaw.
You grinned, hoping you already knew what he was talking about, but too afraid to say it out loud. So you pushed the thought from your mind and scooted a little closer toward him on his lap. "What's this I'm hearing about a beach day? And Skittles getting her cast off? This is all news to me."
He didn't miss a beat as he wrapped his big hands around your hips and said, "What's this I'm hearing about some bourbon at the retirement party? It's all news to me."
"Oh," you whispered softly before eating more Skittles, buying yourself a little time to think. "Well, you see... I wasn't exactly sober."
"You're joking," he deadpanned.
You rolled your eyes and shoved more candy into his mouth. "I may have had a glass of bourbon sent over to Admiral Simpson, courtesy of Lieutenant Bradshaw and his girlfriend..."
After a few quiet blinks, Bradley's head tipped back in laughter so loud that Skittles the pup came running into the room. "You didn't!" Bradley said. "I have to work with that man!"
"Somebody had to make the big move, Daddy! It cleared the tension!"
He met your eyes, still shaking his head and smirking. "It also made you look like Daddy's good little girl."
Your heart skipped around in your chest at his words, and you set your candy aside in favor of wrapping your arms around his neck. "Am I not? Daddy's good little girl?"
"Oh, you absolutely are," he replied as he lifted your top inch by inch. "I just never thought my boss's boss would see it that way."
You raised your hands up in the air, eager to lose your shirt, but he took his sweet time about it. "Daddy."
"You can be patient," he whispered, smiling when he saw your purple bra. "Pretty." Your top dropped to the floor as he cupped you through the lace, finding your nipples right away. "You feel like going to the beach on Saturday?"
Bradley's lips found the tops of your breasts, and you could no longer formulate real words. You just hummed in response already knowing he was going to take expert care of you right now and on Saturday as well.
"You could wear your purple bikini and tell all the other guys to fuck off," he said as he ran his nose softly along your skin while he unhooked your bra and let it fall next to your top.
"Would you like that?" you asked as your fingers tangled up in his hair. He answered you by nodding as he took your nipple between his lips. Bradley was all big hands on your bare skin and just the perfect amount of roughness. "Oh god," you whined.
And then he had you on your back in the middle of the area rug with his body over yours. His thigh was rubbing you through your thin pants, and you bucked up gently against him as his heavy weight pressed deliciously against your body. "I love you," he grunted as you tugged at his hair.
"I love you so much, Daddy," you gasped as he yanked your pants and underwear down and off, leaving you in only your socks. He fumbled with the front of his pants for just a few seconds before pulling his length free, and you spread your legs wide for him.
His lips and tongue were wet on your neck as you held him close, lost in the domesticity of having sex here now. Just like your first time with him. Right next to the snag in the rug. But this time you could hear Skittles' claws tapping across the kitchen floor, and you could see some of Noah's crayons that had rolled under the couch while Bradley fucked you. You could smell the lingering scent of the pasta sauce from the dinner you made. You could taste Bradley's now familiar tongue as it met yours. And you could feel his rough hands on your hips and belly where he'd now touched you hundreds of times.
You fell in love with the flood of familiarity he brought to your senses, and it left you smiling up at him when he broke the kiss. "Jesus," he grunted, cupping one cheek in his hand. You kissed the side of his thumb as he stroked your skin, and you watched him slowly come undone for you. "I'll get you there," he promised, changing his angle so he rubbed your clit with each movement.
Just like the first time, he filled you up as soon as you came, and your name was all over his lips as you smiled at the lost crayons before closing your eyes. Bradley collected you against his body as he eased himself down onto his side, and you sighed contentedly. You held onto his wrist as he ran his hand along your hair and kissed you. In that moment you would have agreed to anything he said.
"Baby, I'll be a little late on Wednesday night. I have to take Skittles to get her cast off, and then I need to stop at the store."
You hummed softly in response, pressing your lips to his. "Sounds good."
------------------------------
The only time Bradley heard from you on Wednesday was when you told him that one of your patients came in with an emergency, and you wanted to let him know you'd be helping Dr. Kelly with a minor surgical procedure. He was excited for you, but he didn't want to bother you. Even though he had good news.
"Congrats," Jake drawled in the locker room after a very long day of flying. "Don't know how you managed to pull this one off, but I heard you're flying in the air show."
Bradley ran his towel over his chest before tossing it into his locker. "Thanks," he grunted, trying not to smile. He'd be able to take you on the tour of the hospital with him, and then you and Noah could watch him fly. His son had never seen him in the air before, and it gave Bradley goosebumps knowing that the two of you would be able to do that together.
Jake gave him one last appraising look before he got dressed. Honestly, it was probably the fact that you upped the ante with Cyclone that Bradley was chosen over the others. Perhaps now things could be called even. You managed to keep everyone on their toes in the best way, and it made him smile even now.
You were in rare form this week, luring him in for living room floor sex when there was a perfectly new bed in the bedroom. And then last night, you got him to watch a Disney princess movie with you, even after Noah was in bed, and Bradley had begrudgingly enjoyed it. You were laying across his lap on your back when the end credits rolled, and you said, "If you're a good boy, I'll make you beignets just like Princess Tiana."
Bradley had smirked. "Do those have cream filling?"
"No," you whispered as he eased your shirt up so his palm was flat on your belly.
"Do you want some?"
He had been thinking about getting you pregnant as he made you bury your face in the couch pillows to keep you quiet.
And that was just one of the many reasons he was about to leave work and head home to grab Skittles before stopping at the jewelry store across town. If Casey managed to bump into there and ruin this surprise as well, he would probably lose his mind. But the jeweler near the animal shelter was one of the best in the city, so that was where he would go.
Bradley awkwardly held Skittles while he drove, and eventually she curled up with her head on his thigh while he sat in traffic. She seemed to be doing great, so he hoped that was a good sign that the cast could come off. You and Noah were delighted with her, and she somehow made Bradley fall in love, too.
"Yeah, you're sweet," he told her, scratching her behind the ears while he drove. He parallel parked the Bronco with one hand while he continued to pet her, and when he took her inside the shelter, he held onto her a little tighter. It was hard to believe she'd been here just a few weeks ago, completely unwanted.
Bradley pressed kisses to the top of her head as he waited for the receptionist to finish her phone call. When she hung up, she asked, "And who do we have here?"
"Skittles Bradshaw," he replied, nuzzling his nose against her fur and wondering how on earth he had gotten so attached to this little pup. "Hopefully she can get her cast off today."
He only had to wait a few minutes, and then he watched as they examined her before cutting into the cast plaster. Once she was free, Skittles took a few tentative steps across the exam table, and then she jumped right back into Bradley's arms.
After he paid the monstrous bill for such a small creature, he carried her down the sidewalk, enjoying the cooling temperature as the sun set. When he checked his phone, he saw that you'd finally texted him again.
My Princess: Noah and I are going to play at the park near the beach. Leftovers when you get home?
He typed out a quick message letting you know that sounded perfect. Thoughts of you and Noah together filled his mind as he entered the jewelry store, and two women looked up at him and Skittles. "Is it okay if I have her in here?" he asked, but they both immediately rushed over, practically screeching about how cute his dog was. Honestly, the pet would have probably worked out better than the dating app had for him.
"What are you looking for?" the first woman asked as she petted Skittles on her head.
A soft smile made its way to his lips as he said, "An engagement ring."
"Oh! Of course, let's just head over here to see what you like best. Do you have anything specific in mind?"
Bradley followed behind her as he nodded and said, "A princess cut diamond."

A princess for a Princess. Also, there is no way Skittles wouldn't be a magnet for all the ladies. A big man with a small dog... just fuck. Thanks to @mak-32 and @beyondthesefourwalls

this night together - chapter twelve (j.yh + s.mg)
Tumblr media
chapter twelve: home is always home
chapter summary: you were planning to tell them how you felt on saturday, but when things go sideways at the studio you find yourself running home as fast as you can.
warnings: this is the chapter i've been warning about for a long, long time. please read responsibly if you're easily triggered by any of the following topics - guy who can't take no for an answer, aggressive/sexist language, physical and verbal assault, panic/ptsd, physical injury/blood, hospitals, police interaction (mentioned), nightmares/night terrors, self harm (sort of?)
notes: please note, if you're reading this on or around 12.3.23 when i'm posting, i've put up three chapters at once. make sure you don't skip chapter ten and eleven! additional notes under the cut~!
pairings: alpha!yunho x alpha!mingi x omega!reader
genre: smut, a/b/o/omegaverse, angst, fluff, romance, polyamory
word count: 11.6k
previous chapter | next chapter | AO3
for my readers who aren't that familiar with a/b/o, i'm introducing something in this chapter that you may not have seen before. i wanted to add some context! if you're new to a/b/o, there is something that alphas have often called "alpha tone", "alpha voice", or just "tone". alphas in many depictions have the ability to lower their voice in a particular way that is seen as a strict command to an omega, and it triggers/activates their submission. this is something that can be used negatively or positively, but in this scene will be negative. there's also something called headspace/subspace that you will see referenced, and an omega can be put into headspace/subspace via alpha tone. it is a bit of a dissociative state where the omega can only really hear and understand commands. this can be used negatively or positively as well, but again, definitely not good in this scene. i hope that helps.... and happy/responsible reading!!
You really, really wish today was Saturday and not Thursday. Thursday just means you still have to get through Friday and then all of Saturday morning before your scheduled dinner with Yunho and Mingi and all the things you want to say are practically eating you up inside. But there’s a right way and a wrong way to tell someone you’ve been an idiot and you’re in love with them, and blurting it out in the middle of dance practice isn’t really going to help make this easier.
God, you hope they still want you.
On the plus side, this week has been insane. With the full crew back things are moving at a million miles per hour, and you’ve been in more meetings about what’s coming up next in the past week than the entire time you’ve worked for BB Trippin and KQ.
Your schedule for the next six months is frankly intense. Between preparing for year-end stages and working on the choreography for the newly debuting girl group, you’re juggling conversations about New World’s next comeback and the next round of touring. With the money coming in now there’s an opportunity to take more dancers, and that just means more late nights and early mornings getting everything right.
It’s after your third concept planning meeting of the week that you find two minutes to talk to Wooyoung, his bag already slung over his shoulder as he refills his water bottle.
“So, you’re going?” You ask him vaguely, trying not to tip off anyone else in the vicinity that he’s got a date.
“Yeah,” He nods, eyes flicking over your shoulder to see if San and Seonghwa are nearby, “I think I’m going to throw up,”
“No, you’re not,” You assure him.
“I might,” He whines, running a hand through his mop of long black hair, “I never know what to say to him,”
“Woo,”
“I know what to say to everyone, y/n,” He lowers his voice, panic evident in his eyes, “but every time Sangie smiles I go fucking blank,”
“Sangie?” Your eyebrow quirks, “Is that what we’re calling him now,”
“Shut up,” Wooyoung blushes.
“Wow,” You prod him softly, “you’re down so bad, it’s been like three days,”
“It’s so bad,” He grimaces, “this is embarrassing,”
“Now you see how I feel,” You smirk, “it’s kind of fun being on this end of things,”
“Please,” He rolls his eyes, “are you telling me you’re not panicking?”
“Oh, no,” You laugh, “I definitely am. It’s just nice to know I’m not alone here,”
“I was never this mean to you,”
You hold his gaze, just blinking, there’s nothing to say to that he doesn’t already know.
“Okay, fine,” He sighs, “but still, feeling like this,”
“Feeling like what?” Seonghwa’s voice shocks you both out of your quiet conversation and you both jump back from each other.
“Jesus,” You breathe, “you scared me,”
Seonghwa smiles, “Sorry,” he shrugs, “everything okay?”
“Perfect,” Wooyoung takes a step back and shakes his head, “totally good,”
Seonghwa’s brows come together in the middle, “You seem like something’s wrong, can I help?”
Wooyoung almost blanches, and you know he’s dreading telling San and Seonghwa about Yeosang, so you jump in to help. “Woo was just helping me figure out Saturday,” You cover and draw Seonghwa’s attention back to you, “you know, figuring out what to say to them,”
“Oh,” Seonghwa nods, but you can see that he doesn’t really buy it, “right,”
“Anyways,” Wooyoung starts walking backwards towards the exterior door, “I have to go, but you know, y/n, call me if you need to talk more later,”
“I will,” You nod, “I definitely will.”
Wooyoung knows that what you mean is that you want detailed date updates, and he almost looks mortified at the idea. He disappears fast, leaving you and Seonghwa relatively alone in the hallway.
“What is up with him this week?” Seonghwa asks, confusion on his face.
“He has a date,” You tell him quietly, “he’s kind of freaking out about it.”
“Oh,” Seonghwa glances towards the door where Wooyoung just disappeared, “that’s not that weird for him,”
“It is if he’s this interested after only a few days,” You say, “but don’t tease him. He’s kind of worked up about the whole thing,”
“Who’s he seeing?” Seonghwa asks.
“He should tell you that,” You beg off the gossip immediately, “just do me a favor and give him a little space to talk to you and San about it,”
“Okay,” He draws out the word, not sure exactly where you’re going.
“He’s nervous about upsetting the delicate balance,” You gesture towards him, referring to the carefully constructed relationship that is Wooyoung, San, and Seonghwa.
“He’s seeing another alpha?” Seonghwa jumps to that conclusion with ease, and you can see how he would get there.
You’re shaking your head before you can stop yourself, “It’s not that,”
That does surprise him, and Seonghwa’s eyes widen a bit, “Oh,”
“Right,” You nod, leading him to the conclusion as close as you can without spelling it out, “my point is, he’s nervous and he’s got a pretty serious crush, and he hasn’t said so but I think he’s scared you and San won’t approve.”
“I would never,” He stumbles over his words, “out of anyone, we would never judge him, he has to know that,”
“Hey,” You reach for Seonghwa, stepping a little closer so your voices stay low in the entryway as you brush your hand down his forearm, “he knows, he’s just panicking a little.”
“Should I talk to him?” Seonghwa asks, his eyes earnest.
“Not yet,” You shake your head, “he’ll figure it out, just don’t push him right now. I’ve never seen him this anxious,”
“I won’t,” He promises, “thank you for telling me,”
“Mhm,”
Seonghwa chews over your words a second and then decides to let it drop. With a sigh he refocuses on work, “Are you staying late?”
“Yeah,” You shrug, “I have some things to catch up on. You?”
“I need to track down San,” He says, “but then after that I’m probably heading out a little early,”
“Nice,” You nod, “still shaking off the jetlag?”
He nods, “Unfortunately,”
Down the hall you watch a few of the dancers gathering up their belongings, and then the door to the back office opens to reveal Yunho and Mingi, sitting close together and studying a computer screen as Jaemin leaves for the day.
“Well,” Your feet are already moving, “then I’ll see you later,”
“Sounds good,” He says, and then he gives you a knowing look, seeing exactly where you’re headed.
Before you know it, you’re moving through the people in the hall and trying desperately to come up with a reason for crashing their tete-a-tete.
“Hey,” You knock softly on the open door, “am I interrupting?”
“No, no,” Yunho smiles when he sees you and your stomach bubbles.
“We’re just watching back practice,” Mingi leans back in his chair, rubbing his tired eyes.
“Oh, nice,” You say, and your empty words do little to fill the empty space.
“Do you… need something?” Yunho tries.
“Ah, yeah, sorry,” You scramble internally for something to say, “I’m staying late, but I’m kind of starving, I just didn’t know if you still had stuff stashed?”
“Sure,” He gestures towards the cabinets on the side wall, “whatever you want, help yourself,”
“Great,” You dash towards the cabinets, and you can’t even imagine eating right now with how fluttery your insides have been, but you snag a couple of protein bars anyways.
The silence is brutal. Not like before, not like the tense and uncomfortable angry silences of the past, but it’s still sitting there between you. Part of you wants to shut the door right now and just get it all out there, but again, you know you shouldn’t.
Mingi’s warm, chocolatey scent is richer in here, evident after a hard practice of working up a sweat and being given a chance to permeate with the door closed. You feel your body naturally relaxing at it, so comforting and familiar, and then you get the first pang of Yunho’s warm, summer rain.
You can hardly believe how you convinced yourself that this wasn’t scent sympathy when right here and now it’s so obvious they belong to you. You wonder if they feel it too.
“Are you okay?” Mingi’s voice snaps you out of your sudden daydream staring at the cabinet full of snacks.
“Yeah, yes,” You shut them and step back, “I’m fine, just a little tired.”
“Not sleeping well?” Yunho says, concern all over his features.
“I’m fine,” You wave him off, “just a busy week,”
“You don’t have to stay late,” Mingi offers, “I’m sure whatever you’re working on will still be fine tomorrow,”
“I know,” You nod, “but if I don’t get it out of my system I’ll just be thinking about it all night, you know how it is,”
Mingi nods, “Still, take it easy later,”
“I will,” You promise, and you start to turn towards the door when the words just bubble up out of your throat, “you’re both still free Saturday, right?”
“Yeah,” Mingi answers for them both, “are you?”
“Definitely,” You nod, “I just wanted to make sure, I’m looking forward to it,”
“We could do tomorrow instead,” Yunho offers, “after practice?”
“As long as you don’t have other plans,” Mingi cuts in, “for a Friday night,”
“Tomorrow works,” You jump at the chance, “I’d actually love that, I just didn’t want to crowd you when you’re adjusting to the timezone again,”
“It’s fine,” Mingi brushes that thought off, “I’d rather see you,”
“Yeah,” Yunho nods, “it’ll be good to catch up,”
You smile, “I want to hear all about the trip,”
“The trip,” Mingi says, just repeating your words like he’s weighing them out on his own tongue.
Something about his voice sends a sharp zing up the back of your spine.
Your body feels a little soft, relaxing bit by bit.
Yunho’s eyes flick over you, “Are you sure you need to stay late?”
Something your primal little brain cannot handle right now is the thought of your alphas being protective, not when you’re standing in this room encased by their scents that feel a little too right. Your stomach tightens and you pray that you’re not blushing pink at the flickering thought in your mind of them taking you home.
You need to get out of this room before they realize it.
“I’m good,” You tell him, stepping backwards towards the door, “but thank you, and dinner tomorrow is perfect,”
Mingi says something, you think he’s agreeing, but you’re giving another excuse over your shoulder about how you need to get back to it so you can make it out of this room.
Your heart is practically beating out of your chest as you leave the office and make it down the hall, heading for the studio room you’ve booked for the afternoon. You nearly run into Dahan and Minseok as you cut around the corner, but you apologize quickly and barely give them a second glance as you hide yourself away in one of the dance studios alone.
With the door firmly shut you lean back against the closed door and take a deep breath. These feelings are going to work you into a frenzy if you don’t get them under control. Scent sympathy is rare, an almost perfect match between an alpha and omega that makes every part of a relationship heightened, especially once that initial sympathetic bond is fulfilled with a claim. While they were gone you came to that conclusion slowly, the steady ache in your chest so clearly informed by the lack of them, but now that they’re back and here the realization of it collides into you full-force.
You love them, that’s true. But what’s more is how much you need them, and how much you hope they need you. You can’t let them realize it before you have the chance to say everything you need to say, and if you had stayed in that room a few minutes more they might have felt themselves. With the dinner moved to Friday you just have one more night to get through. One more night, and one more day of work. And then the chips will fall where they may.
With a deep breath you let the hammering of your heart slow and then you focus back on the work ahead. The more you pour yourself into work the faster these 24 hours will go, so you put your head down and get to it.
You work for a long time, probably too long, until your muscles are positively aching and any thoughts of Yunho and Mingi are drowned out by lyrics to the chorus of this song that just keeps looping in your mind as you try different patterns of footwork. Here in this bubble you don’t know who’s still at work, who’s left for the day, what time it is, or if the sun has set yet. You just know your own body and every which way that it moves to this one singular song.
Your hair is hot around your face, sweat clinging to your brow as you finish out the latter half of the choreography that you’re confident with. It’s fast, and includes so much up and down floor work you’re pretty sure you’d be passing out if you weren’t hydrating properly. Focused on your reflection in the mirror you gather your hair up and away and into a knot and then move to find your towel and water bottle.
The door to the studio opens behind you, and you glance back without really seeing who’s popping in, “Hey,”
For a split second it occurs to you that it might be Yunho or Mingi and your stomach flips as you start to turn.
“Hey, y/n,” Minseok’s voice is a bit of a surprise.
“Oh, hey,”
He looks like he’s just stopping by to grab something from the far desk in the corner. You’re honestly surprised that he’s still here, he had looked on his way out earlier when you bumped into him in the hall.
“Are you heading out for the night?” You take a drink of water and catch your breath, leaning against the mirrored wall behind you.
“Soon,” He nods, running a hand through his dark hair and snagging a sweatshirt hanging over the back of the office chair.
“Well,” You smile, “have a good night,”
“You too,” He says as he walks past you, but then his steps slow and you hear him sigh before he turns on his heel, “listen, can I ask you something?”
“Sure,”
“I hope you don’t think this is weird,” He takes a few more steps back towards you, “but I’ve actually been meaning to ask you something for a while now,”
“Oh,” Your eyebrows raise, and suddenly you can see everything in his expression. You know this look. You know the way men get when they finally rip off the bandage and change the equilibrium of a room, the moment they decide they can’t see you as just a friend. What absolutely terrible timing he has.
“I was thinking,” He says, a little pause before the rest and you hope you’re keeping your face nice and neutral, “do you think I could take you out some time?”
“Out?” The word leaves you.
He smiles, “Yeah, out, like a date.”
“I appreciate that,” You shake your head a little, trying to smile and keep things light, “but I don’t think so,”
His lip quirks and his nose scrunches and you suppose that if you were interested you might find this part of him charming, but you’re not, so it isn’t. “Are you seeing someone?” He asks.
“No,” You tell him honestly, “not right now.”
“So, I can’t get you to give me one chance?” He takes a step forwards, gesturing between you both and keeping his gaze hopeful.
“I really don’t think that’s a good idea,” You shake your head, “we work together.”
“Oh, it’s fine,” He assures you, brushing past the boundary you tried to set with casual indifference, “don’t worry about that.”
“Still,” You shake your head, “but thank you for asking.”
You’re not at all thankful for him asking, but he’s nice enough, and it feels like the polite way to keep the status quo.
“That’s a shame,” He admits, his smile dropping almost entirely, “are you sure I can’t convince you to give me just one chance? I really do like you, y/n,”
“I’m sure,” That should be firm enough.
“I thought we were getting along well,” He cuts off the end of your words, “becoming friends.”
“I thought so too,” You straighten up off the wall behind you, tossing your towel over your shoulder and setting up to walk right out of the studio room if that’s what it would take to end this interaction, “I thought we were friends,”
You can’t help but emphasize the word friends, and you watch the moment his expression drops more, annoyance flicking through his jaw.
“I didn’t think you had such a problem seeing people you worked with,” He says pointedly.
“Excuse me?”
“It’s just that,” He shrugs, nodding towards you, “I didn’t think it bothered you. Considering.”
“Listen,” You lock eyes with him, “let it go. I’m trying to be nice about this, but I can be clearer. I am not interested in going out with you.”
“You don’t have to be rude,”
“Goodnight, Minseok,” You’re not staying for this.
“I’m a good guy,” He says as you start towards the door, “don’t, come on just stay a second,”
You keep walking.
“y/n,” He says, his voice startlingly close behind you, “stay.”
It’s like your legs stop working, an echoing strike of nerves down your spine and you stumble slightly as his hand closes around your wrist.
“Let go of me.” You start to turn towards him, pulling your arm back as you do, but he speaks again.
“Stop.” His voice is so low suddenly, situated smack in the center of his chest, a tenor you’ve never heard from him before. Your legs stop working all together, suddenly feeling like lead.
“Take your hands off me.” You blink hard, your head feeling a little full suddenly.
“I just don’t understand,” He bites, “we’ve been flirting for weeks.”
You can’t find the words to tell him that you being nice isn't flirting, but you’re stunned into silence. You can barely even think of a time when you had a sustained conversation with him where someone else wasn’t present. How could interactions that felt so routine to you feel so significant for him?
“And you’re just… not interested?” He scoffs, “You’re what, twenty-six? Twenty-seven? You’re going to start running out of good offers.”
So many things about Seo Minseok fall into place with just those words. The way that just a few weeks ago he barely looked at you, barely spoke to you. Always spending his attention on the alphas in the room around you, but never you. How when that tide shifted you thought, maybe naively, that he was just shy. But he’s not shy, not in the least. He’s just another alpha in a long line of alphas who look down their noses at omegas until there’s something they want from them.
“That’s really none of your concern,” You shake your head, “now get the fuck off me.”
“Be quiet.” His jaw sets hard.
So does yours.
A thousand thoughts run through your brain like a wildfire eating up a hillside of dry bark but nothing can make it past your lips. The tone of his voice has you rooted to the spot, his instructions not suggestions but strict commands. It’s been a long time since you’ve heard an alpha use tone, but it’s certainly the first time it’s been directed at you. You’ve heard stories, the way the primal omega brain surfaces even when you don’t want it to. You thought it was a bit of an overstatement, but now on the receiving end you can’t control your response to him and fear floods you.
“You talk a lot for an unmated omega,” He looks disappointed.
Something shrinks inside you.
His fingers tighten, his body suddenly closer, “But we can fix that.”
In a breath his hands push you backwards, your back suddenly cold against the mirrored wall of the practice room. Later, much later, you’ll discover that the reason your memory of this moment is patchy is a combination of your omega’s response to alpha tone and full dissociation. You’ll remember little pieces, quick sensations here and there. The same song still looping through the stereo, the sound of his deep inhale with his face pressed against your throat, the sharp pin pricks of his teeth as he seeks out the soft juncture of your neck and shoulder. The way your mind in one heaving breath both screams in rebellion and folds open in acceptance when he successfully locates your gland.
You suddenly can’t hear right, can’t think right. All you know is his teeth. The hot feeling of breath. He smells like burnt, bitter oranges. He’s talking again, saying something that your conscious mind can’t register, but your omega does, and you stretch your neck long to give him the access he needs.
And then you’re under.
You’re dropping before you consciously register your brain entering a new, hazy middle space. It feels like being at the bottom of a deep pool, the sudden, immersive quiet. You understand that someone is talking to you, or around you, but all you can hear is the echoing tenor of an alpha, the words unclear, all cocooned in the water around you.
There’s a bang somewhere but it feels far away, and you feel pin pricks against your throat.
Minseok’s overwhelming acrid scent and heavy pressure against you is gone, the sudden loss of his weight leaving you off balance. You think you’re falling, or maybe you’ve already fallen. The world feels tilted, something hard and cold under your back. You smell something sharp and tangy, and there’s something loud in the room but you can’t understand it. Everything is white, bright and intrusive.
Mingi’s face swims into your vision, and you feel his hands on your cheeks. It takes you a minute to understand anything, but he looks upset, stricken and his cheeks are tinged pink with panicked anger. You want to reach up, soothe his brow and see what’s wrong, but you can’t lift your hand. Don’t move an inch.
“Jesus,” Mingi glances to his side, “he put her in subspace,”
Someone responds, but it’s muffled to your ears.
Mingi’s face darkens entirely, his hands leave you, “I’ll fucking kill him,”
He’s gone. There’s a scuffle to your side, but you can’t turn your head, you want to, you just can’t. Tears bubble in your eyes, emotion pulsing through you and your breath is tight and thready in your throat. A sharp, whining sob bubbles from your lips.
Warm rain swims through you, and Yunho’s there, sliding right into the spot Mingi left. His eyes dart over your face and then he looks to his side, his voice firm, “Calm down or get out of here, do you understand me? You’re scaring her,”
There’s a long beat, noises to your side again but you can’t understand it. Your stomach flips nervously, the place you’re stuck in your head throbbing a sharp spike through your brain.
Yunho’s warm, brown eyes settle back on yours, his face calm and easy, “Can you hear me, y/n?”
You can, but you can’t make your mouth work. Don’t move an inch.
“Can you hear me? y/n?” He asks again, his thumb brushing your cheek, “You’re safe, he’s not going to touch you again,”
The hard feeling of Minseok’s hands on your hips pushing you into the practice room mirror snaps inside you and you release a soft sound.
“You can hear me,” Yunho nods, “come on, wake up,”
“Yunho,” Mingi’s voice is close again, hard and steady, “that’s not going to work,”
“Why?” Yunho looks up to his friend, “she can hear me, she’s okay,”
“She’s in subspace,” Mingi pushes his friend to the side, coming into your eye line, “she’s dropped so far under it’s going to take more than that,”
“W-what do we do?” Yunho’s voice is shaky.
“Let me try something,” Mingi murmurs, and then his eyes lock squarely on yours.
Yunho slips his hand into yours, holding you tightly, but you can’t squeeze him back.
“Omega,” Mingi’s voice is firm, and it’s the clearest thing you’ve heard since sinking under the water, “Come up now.”
Don’t move an inch.
“You need to come up now,” His fingers tighten on your cheek, “listen to me.”
Don’t move an inch.
“Why isn’t this working?” Yunho asks, squeezing your fingers.
“I’m not sure,” Mingi’s voice is low, and then he shifts closer to your face, “y/n. Omega. Listen to me now,”
All you can do is manage to make a quiet, tight noise, and even to your muddled brain you can hear the tenor of distress.
“Come up now,” Mingi repeats, “right now. Listen to me, omega.”
You’re being torn in two, your primal brain fighting you every step of the way.
He swallows hard, his voice dropping low in his chest, “Don’t disobey your alpha,”
Suddenly nothing but his voice exists.
Mingi’s expression is cold, tight and ruthless, his rich tone cuts straight to your core, “When you’re given a directive, you follow it. Now,” He locks his hands on either side of your face and his next words are a pointed and perfectly clear command, “Come. Up.”
The room is so much louder than you thought a moment ago. There’s shouting outside and you vaguely register San’s voice amongst the mix. The music from practice is still on low. Yunho’s leg is bouncing nervously, the athletic fabric making a rhythmic swish with every bob of his knee. You can hear your blood rushing in your ears.
“I’m sorry,” You choke out, the first feeling that floods back into your body is intense shame.
“Oh my god,” Mingi’s expression crumbles and he pulls your limp body into his arms “you’re here? You’re with us?”
“M-Mingi,” Your vision clouds with tears again and every feeling that tried to course through your body while you were in subdrop crashes into you sideways.
“Shh,” He rocks you in his arms, “we’ve got you, we’re right here, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,”
A dull throb radiates through your skull and Yunho takes a sharp inhale, “She’s bleeding,”
“What?” Mingi pulls back, his hand searching your body.
“Here,” Yunho brushes the back of your hair, his fingers coming away with a small line of blood, “it’s not too bad,”
“What happened?” You reach for the cut at the back of your head, nervous tears coming up as you try to understand.
“You don’t remember?” Yunho asks.
“I’m,” You swallow hard, “it was practice? Or I was practicing? I had the room booked.”
“Yeah,” Yunho nods and squeezes your hand, “what else?”
The date. The hard set of Minseok’s jaw when you said no. His hands on your hips, his lips on your neck, the soft drag of his teeth and the flat of his tongue over your gland. Your shirt tearing when he hauled you up against the mirrors. Hands everywhere. Hands nowhere. The white ceiling. His voice, harsh and direct in your ears, the alpha tone unmistakable. Submit. Heel. Don’t move an inch.
Your mouth is suddenly hot and watery, and your hands are shaking, “I’m… I’m going to be sick,”
“Shit,” Yunho moves fast, sliding across the floor to grab the wastebasket that sits under the desk, pushing it into your hands.
You wretch instantly, shaking and heaving, losing the contents of your stomach into the plastic bin.
“Okay,” Mingi soothes, gathering up your hair into one hand and holding it away from your face, “you’re okay,”
“He touched me,” Your hands won’t stop shaking, his voice flooding back, and you heave again, “the things he said,”
“Shh,” Yunho shifts closer, rubbing a hand up and down your back, “you’re safe. None of that is true,”
“He talked to me like a dog,” You sob, “and I couldn’t move, he told me not to move and I just let him,”
“No.” Mingi’s voice is harsh and you twitch under his hands, “He used alpha tone on you, he wanted you to stop fighting and he said it in tone until you couldn’t hear anything else. You didn’t let him do anything,”
“I’ve never,” You wretch again, a dry heave with nothing to give and it makes your eyes watery.
“We’re right here,” Yunho murmurs, “you’re safe.”
When you’re sure your stomach will hold, you push the wastebasket away and drop back to the floor, your head throbbing, “I’ve never been in subspace,”
“You’re not there now,” Mingi soothes.
“I don’t remember,” You manage, looking down at your mussed clothes, “it’s so muddled I can’t remember,”
“What can’t you remember?” Yunho asks softly.
You’re pretty sure you’d register it if his attempt at claiming had been successful, if the word attempt should even be in consideration at all, but the end is so fuzzy you just have to know. “Did he… did we?”
“No.” Yunho’s firm, sliding in front of you so he can make you look into his eyes, “absolutely not,”
Your mouth tastes terrible, but it’s the overwhelming bitter smell of him on you that doubles it and makes you want to throw up again even though your stomach is empty.
“All I can smell is him,” You scrub your hands under your eyes to wipe away tears, “I can’t even breathe,”
“Take her,” Mingi says, “I’m getting water,”
Yunho pulls you into his arms, sitting back against the mirrored wall for some support and cradling you to his chest, “Come here, is this okay?”
“Make it go away,” You hold onto his shirt and sigh into his neck, “please, Yunho, please,”
“Just breathe,” He soothes you, “I have you,”
He smooths his thumbs over the glands in your wrists, easing the initial panic inside you, and then gently draws your head back with his hand, “It’s only me,” He murmurs, “you know I’d never hurt you,”
Yunho licks a long stripe up your neck, and instantly your body starts to release, tense muscles unlocking and your fingers falling slack. His scent washes over you, enveloping you tenderly.
“Y-Yunho,” you shudder as he licks another long stripe, moving to suck softly on the fleshy part of your neck that narrowly avoided teeth marks.
“Yes?” He kisses your neck softly, and licks again.
“Thank you for coming for me,” You exhale slowly.
He stills, sinking closer and resting his closed lips on your shoulder. When he breathes in you hear the catch of emotion, “I thought we were too late,”
“I’m okay,” You murmur, and it’s starting to feel true now that he’s washing away Minseok’s scent.
“God,” He sighs into your skin, “when I heard you scream… I’ve never heard anything that terrifying in my life, I’ve never run so fast,”
“Did I scream?” You don’t remember it.
“Bloody murder,” He nods, pulling back to look at your eyes.
“Yunho,” Your eyes flick up towards the open door of the practice studio, “where is he?”
His hands tighten on you, “Probably nursing his broken ribs. The guys have him,”
Your eyes widen, and the realization that he’s still under the same roof has you trembling in his arms, “He’s still here,”
“Not for long,” He murmurs, “we called the police,”
“But,” Your mind is spinning and you feel the weight of him on your chest once more, “what if he comes back?”
“y/n,” Yunho draws your eyes away from the door, “San and Seonghwa have him, and he’s in rough shape. He’s probably focused on trying to breathe, not thinking about you anymore. And even if none of that were true and he did come back,” he says, “I’d put him on the floor faster than you could blink. Mingi and I both would.”
Your muscles start to relax again, “Okay,”
“You are completely safe,”
Mingi reappears a few moments later, bottles of water in hand, and he smiles warmly, “Hey, you,”
“Hey,”
“Feeling a little better?” He asks, settling on the hard practice room floor and passing you an open bottle.
“I don’t know,” You murmur honestly, shifting in Yunho’s arms so that you’re resting on his lap with your back against his chest. You take a long drink of water and sigh.
“Listen,” Mingi smooths a hand across your thigh, “the police are going to want to talk to you. They’ll be here within the hour and then we’ll go to the hospital.”
“Why?” You tense.
“Your head,” He nods.
“It’s stopped bleeding,” Yunho assures you, “but he’s right, you could have a concussion.”
“I don’t have a concussion,”
“I didn’t realize you had a medical degree,” Mingi says, a little edge to his voice.
Hot tears well in your eyes at his tone, and you shrink back into Yunho’s arms. You know rationally he didn’t mean to scare you, he’s just worried about you, but after the day you’ve had you can’t help but shrink back in fear.
“Hey,” Yunho presses his lips to your neck, “it’s alright, Mingi didn’t mean it like that”
Mingi’s eyes blow wide, “Fuck, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything,”
“I know,” You tip your head to the side to offer more of your throat to Yunho’s soothing touches, “I’m just not myself,”
“It’s okay,” Yunho says again, returning to your neck and peppering kisses across your gland, and something about this should feel intimate and awkward when you haven’t talked to them yet, but all you can feel is safe.
“Really,” Mingi reaches for you, but doesn’t touch you, “I just want you to let us help, and I’m so angry with Minseok I could kill him, but I didn’t mean to put that on you,”
“Mingi,” You take his outstretched hand, “I’m okay, you just startled me, and you’re right anyways. I’ll come to the hospital,”
He sighs in relief.
“After,” Yunho murmurs, “would you - I mean, will you please come home with us tonight?”
It’s strange how much you feel like it is home, despite only spending your heat there, months ago, so long ago now you shouldn’t still feel this preternatural pull.
“I don’t know,” You say, even though your body is begging you to agree, to stay with them and only them.
“I know it’s been different between us,” He murmurs, arms tightening around you, “but you know how I feel. I just don’t want you to be alone tonight, someone should be with you,”
“Someone you feel safe with,” Mingi adds, “if that’s us,”
“It is,” You lock your hand down on Mingi’s, “I’m sorry, this is… of course you’re safe, of course you are. I’m just,”
“Let’s talk about this later,” Mingi smiles, shooting a look at Yunho you can’t quite make sense of, but brushing your fears to the side all the same, “for now, let’s just get you taken care of.”
You shudder out a breath, letting the warmth and safety of their bodies sink into you. You turn into Yunho, resting your cheek on his chest and matching your breath in time to his. Your thoughts spin, bubbling over as threads of the incident come back to your mind and you press your eyes closed before the question slips out, “Why did he do it?”
Yunho wraps his arms around you a little tighter, dropping his lips to your hair, “I don’t know,”
Mingi clears his throat, “He’s about to hit his rut,” he says, “that’s what his excuse was. He said he’s… he kept saying how sorry he was, but,”
Your eyes snap open, “Sorry? He’s sorry?”
“Sorry someone interrupted him, maybe,” Mingi’s voice is hard, his eyes firm and unrelenting, “a rut doesn’t make you do that. Not like that.”
Yunho shakes his head in agreement, “Definitely not,”
You know that, of course you know it, but after seeing Minseok’s black eyes you’re not so sure. You had never felt completely comfortable with him, but in the past you would have chalked that up to personality differences, and in the past few weeks that had all started to change. He was the kind of guy you wouldn’t date, but you wouldn’t worry about bothering you.
You sigh softly, “He didn’t seem like himself,”
“Mm,” Mingi hums, non-committal.
“A rut doesn’t make it impossible to hear the word no,” Yunho says firmly, “you don’t become some mindless animal. What he tried to do… that’s… a rut’s an easy excuse.”
You tense up in his arms, a brief flicker of what could have been. His teeth in your neck, your mind spinning into submission.
“Yunho,” Mingi shakes his head at his best friend, glancing down at you to indicate that it’s not something you can hear right now.
“I’m sorry,” Yunho soothes, holding you closer if it’s at all possible.
Your chest tightens, “Can I… I need to get up,”
His arms relax immediately, hands shifting under your elbows to help support you while Mingi jumps up and offers you his hands to pull you up. Back on your own two feet you waver a minute, but you shake off the dizzy spell and try to get your bearings again. They're waiting on a razor’s edge, hands out and ready to intervene, but you’ve made it clear that for the moment you don’t want to be touched.
A shout from the hall leaves you jumping, but you register Wooyoung’s voice a moment later, “Where is she?”
“The studio,” San’s voice replies, “slow down,”
“Is he in the back office? Give me a fucking minute alone with him,” Wooyoung’s voice is murderous and you smile at how ready your best friend sounds to do battle on your behalf, “I’ll show him what an omega can fucking do,”
“Youngie,” San’s voice is even and warm, keeping things soft, “you need to calm down,”
“Calm down,” He scoffs, his voice getting closer as he travels down the hall and you know he’s almost at the door.
“I hardly think y/n needs,” San starts to say, but then they round the corner.
Wooyoung’s eyes are wild, searching and terrified, and something inside you shatters. San’s words die on his lips when he sees you, and in a startling moment of clarity you rush forwards and into Wooyoung’s arms.
“Shh, shh,” He wraps you up tight, one hand at the back of your head as he rocks you back and forth, “you’re safe, you’re in one piece,”
“Woo,” Tears come fast, and you bury your face in his chest.
“Stupid fucking alphas,” He curses into your shoulder and you can hear his breath hitched and clouded with tears of his own, “acting like they can take whatever they want,”
You’re sure the rest of the room is bristling at that comment but you couldn’t care less.
“You want me to break the rest of his ribs?” He kisses your head, “I’ll make it look like a fucking accident, I swear to God,”
“Woo,” You laugh into his chest, vision blurry with unshed tears, “stop, that’s insane,”
“I am nothing if not a little insane,” Wooyoung squeezes you, “and you and me? We protect each other, right?”
“Always,” You grip the back of his shirt like a lifeline.
The bond between omegas can’t be understood by a single other person in the room, maybe even in the building. You cling to each other in the middle of the studio floor, encased in this moment of shared grief. Of what you are and what that means. He shifts you in his arms so he can look at your face, cupping your tear stained cheeks.
The sight of his own tears makes yours come faster, “What did I do?”
His expression hardens and he shakes his head, sucking in a harsh breath, “Nothing, not a single fucking thing. Do you hear me?”
“Woo,” You want him to let you go. You want him to tug you close again.
He shakes your shoulders hard, and in your periphery you see Mingi take a half step forward as Wooyoung pushes back on your words, “You didn’t do anything. You’re existing, and he tried to take advantage of that. This isn’t your fault, there’s nothing you could have or should have done.”
You open your mouth to say something but he plows forward.
“Alphas take, alright?” He shakes you again, more gently this time, “We’re lucky. You and me, we found good ones, but alphas are programmed to take, and we’re programmed to give. He used it against you. Nothing else.”
Your breath hitches, and you launch yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck and letting him cradle you again.
“Shh, shh,” He rubs your back, soothing you again.
“I hate this,” You manage, your face buried in his shoulder.
“I know,” He eases you, “I fucking hate it too,”
You hold each other a little longer until both of your tears start to subside. You stay steady in his grip, his fresh salt and cotton scent lulling you into safety. The buzzing of your brain starts to release, and the fear is still there under your skin but at least for now it’s low and letting you breathe.
Nuzzling into his shoulder you sigh, “What are you doing back here anyways?”
“San called,” He kisses your hair, “I broke several laws getting here,”
You laugh against his collarbone where his oversized t-shirt is pulled down, no doubt from the way your hands grip whatever part of him you can.
He rubs a warm hand up and down your back and when he speaks again it’s not to you, this time he addresses the alphas in the room. He clears his throat softly, head lifting up and away from yours, “So, who busted his nose?”
“Uh,” Yunho makes a small sound behind you, “that would be me,”
“Good,” Wooyoung says, “when she stops crying I’m giving you a handshake,”
You smile against his damp skin and shake your head, “I’m not crying, I’m fine,”
“Sure,” Wooyoung murmurs, but he doesn’t let you go, just strokes your back more until you settle further into him.
“The police will be here soon,” San murmurs, his voice staying relaxed and steady to make sure everything stays level in the room.
“Right,” Wooyoung sighs, “y/n, can I let you go? I don't have to if you’re not ready,”
You nod immediately though, unwinding your arms from him and taking a ginger step back. He gives you a soft smile, and you scrub the last of the tears from your face with the sleeves of your sweatshirt. He gives you a minute to stand steady and then turns to Yunho and Mingi who both look frozen and unsure of what to do or what to say.
“You both got him off her?” He says, matter of fact.
“Yeah,” Mingi’s voice is tight, like he had been choking back tears of his own, and Yunho simply nods.
“Thank you,” Wooyoung tugs Mingi into a hug and squeezes him tight before shifting to Yunho to hug him too, “seriously,”
Once they break apart, you’re left all in a haphazard circle, and you can feel all the eyes on you. It makes you so tired, dizzy, ready to be done and just crawl under a blanket for the rest of the week. In the back of your throat you still taste bitter orange.
“Um,” Your voice comes out a little more scratchy than you want, and you clear your throat, letting everything fade.
“What is it?” Yunho asks gently.
You don’t know how to ask this, how to beg them to keep holding you together so you can just get through existing in this room. You sigh, the deep exhale making you dizzy again, and step towards him, “C-can I,”
He opens his arms immediately, letting you close the space so he doesn’t assume your needs, but as you collide with him again he responds perfectly, scooping you up into his arms and letting you wrap your legs around his waist. He supports you with ease, an arm under your thighs and another situated high on your back.
“Better?” He murmurs, smiling a little as you bury your head in his neck.
You nod into his neck, and then you allow yourself one tiny moment of weakness, listening to your body and what it needs for once over your anxiety. You mumble it into his neck, but he hears you when you say, “Yunho?”
“Yeah, baby?” His voice is so soft, quiet like he’s afraid of what you might say.
You don’t miss the way Wooyoung’s eyebrows go high at the endearment, but you ignore him and focus instead on the man holding you up, together, in one solid piece. You lift your head so he hears you clearly, “Will you please take me home?”
He goes still and turns his head just a little, “Your apartment or,”
“Take me home with you,” You repeat, “I want to go home,”
This will surely just make everything more muddled and foggy between the three of you tomorrow in the cold light of day, but you don’t care. Right now you just want to be home, in whatever form that means.
He exhales low and shaky, “Alright,” he murmurs, kissing your throat softly to help calm your trembling, “I’ve got you, let’s go home,”
A warm wide palm rests on the center of your back, and Mingi leans in close to catch your eyes, “y/n, can you look at me a second?”
You pull your head up from the crook of Yunho’s neck where you’ve just been taking deep steady inhales of wet earth and meet his eyes.
“Hey,” He smiles.
Your eyes dart between him and Wooyoung, who seems suddenly ancy. “What?” You straighten up a little more in Yunho’s arms.
“You can go wherever you want,” He starts off, “but do you want us to take you home, or would you feel more comfortable with Wooyoung? Or… Seonghwa, if… if that would be better for how you’re feeling,”
Yunho tenses a little, his fingers tightening where he holds you, and you can feel him physically holding himself back from saying a single word, from begging you to come with them.
You’ve made up your mind though, and within a second you’re shaking your head, “No, I want you,”
Yunho relaxes, his lips returning to your throat and you sigh.
“Then you have us,” Mingi assures you.
The sound of the elevators in the hall stop you all cold though, and San holds up his hands, “I’ll go see, it’s probably the police,”
The idea of talking to them suddenly makes you sick, and you’re sure it shows all over your face.
“It’s going to be fine,” Wooyoung jumps back in, “don’t worry, we’ll be there the whole time.”
You need this to be done. You grip down on Yunho’s shoulders, “I want to go home,”
“I know,” Mingi nods.
“Y-Yunho,” You’re scrambling a little in his arms, sudden panic swirling in your gut, and you twist to find his eyes, “please, get me out of here, please take me home,”
You feel it the minute he chooses you over anything else, “Okay, alright,”
“You need to talk to the cops,” Wooyoung shakes his head, trying to reason with you.
You’re trembling in Yunho’s arms and he shakes his head, “She needs to go,”
Mingi senses your heightened emotions too and you feel it when he moves closer, both of them shifting to protect you, “She can do this later,”
“I don’t know that that’s such a good idea,” Wooyoung insists.
“I couldn’t give a fuck,” Yunho grips you tighter, “we’re taking our girl home,”
“Your-” Wooyoung scoffs when he hears the words, “fucking alphas,”
“Who she wants to take her home,” Mingi points out, a distinct edge to his voice.
“Stop arguing,” You beg them, hanging onto Yunho’s shoulders, “please, please,”
“Fuck,” Yunho relaxes, stroking your back, “I’m sorry, of course we won’t, I’m sorry,”
Mingi brushes his hand over the back of your head and Wooyoung gives you an apologetic face, his defensiveness over you is understandable, but he also knows how you feel about these men and you watch him choose to hold his tongue.
A knock on the door brings you all back to the present, San handling the situation with more grace than any of you combined, “The police said that they can speak with you at the hospital and make it brief.”
You exhale heavily and nod against Yunho, “Okay, fine,”
“Are you sure?” Mingi strokes your cheek.
“I just want to be done,”
“Should we stay with you?” Yunho murmurs.
“Please,” You grip his shoulders.
“Alright,” He sighs, “Woo, could you… I’m sorry, can you grab her things? Let’s just try to make this quick for her,”
Wooyoung clears his throat, his eyes never leaving yours, “Yeah, I got it,”
“Uh,” San interrupts as you all try to gather your things, “Yunho, they want to talk to you first, they’re waiting in the back office,”
“Oh,”
“They have some questions,” San explains quietly, “but she she doesn’t need to be there for that,”
“Right,” Yunho nods and then presses a kiss to your hair, “can I put you down, sweetheart?”
Your chest warms.
“No, here,” Mingi cuts in, his hand sweeping over your back and you feel them shift you from Yunho’s arms to his, “come here,”
He settles you against his chest and you wrap around him just the same, soaking in the warm scent of cocoa and cinnamon. You let your eyes drift shut as you rest on his shoulder, “Hey, Mingi,”
“Hey,” He says softly.
“Thank you,” You sigh.
“Mhm,” He rocks you a little as he takes your bags from Wooyoung and slings them over his shoulder, the combined weight of it and you not fazing him at all, “I told you once I’ll always be here, I meant it,”
“I believe you,” You murmur into his throat.
You rest here, Mingi’s thumb rubbing a comforting line over the back of your neck.
“Time to go,” Wooyoung’s voice pipes back in, “there’s a car ready, Yunho will be there in a a few minutes,”
“Alright,” Mingi presses a soft kiss to your hair, “here we go,”
He carries you with ease, and you sink into the steady thump of his heart under your palm that’s keeping you grounded. Over his shoulder you watch Wooyoung walking with you and you see police officers down the hall. The door to the back office swings open and Yunho is leaning against the desk as he speaks with an officer. Seonghwa sits in a chair next to him, his head in his hands, blood coating his knuckles and the sleeves of his shirt. Something pulls in your gut, begging you to go to him, but then you’re outside and all you can feel is Mingi holding you as he ferries you into the car.
“Do you need anything?” He asks as he settles you into the passenger seat
“I don’t know,” You tell him honestly, letting your head drop back against the seat and taking a deep breath, eyes slipping closed.
“Don’t fall asleep,” Wooyoung jumps forward, “keep your eyes open,”
“I’m fine,” You tell him, but you still do what he asks.
“Just in case,” Wooyoung presses, “you shouldn’t fuck with head injuries,”
“He’s right,” Mingi murmurs, crouching next to you just outside the car, “and I’m sure you’re fine, but let’s just be sure, okay?”
“Okay,”
A noise just past the two of them makes you jump.
“It’s just Sannie,” Wooyoung assures you.
You nod and Mingi takes your hand in his, lacing your fingers together.
“Yunho’s almost done,” San announces, but he hurries to the car and leans in to check you, “doing okay?”
“Yeah,”
“Can you do something for me?” He cups your cheek to bring your eyes up to his.
“Mhm,” You nod again.
“I need you to just focus on us for a minute,” He moves to crouch next to Mingi, and then Wooyoung steps closer too, blocking out some of your peripheral vision.
“Why?” You fight the urge to turn around.
Red and blue lights flash in the car mirrors and you reflexively glance up at the rear view mirror, catching sight of an ambulance, and tension fills your stomach.
San reaches up and catches your face again, “Hey, look at me,”
You pull your eyes away, “Are they here for him?”
“Yes,” San nods.
“Is he badly hurt?” Your mouth feels dry.
There’s a pause and then Wooyoung sighs, “Don’t lie to her,”
Mingi clears his throat softly, “He’s pretty busted up,”
“Good,” You breathe.
San smiles, taking your other hand in his and smoothing his thumb over your knuckles. The sound of the doors catches your attention again, and you resist the urge to turn around once again. San shakes his head a little, “Just keep looking at us,”
“He really picked the wrong person to fuck with,” Wooyoung says, his hand resting warmly on your shoulder.
An image of Seonghwa and his bloody knuckles flashes through your mind and your breath quickens, “Is Hwa okay?”
Mingi’s brows draw together.
“He’s fine,” San assures you immediately.
“I saw blood,” You can’t articulate it exactly, the image is just static in your mind.
“It’s not his blood,” San promises, “we’re all fine, Seonghwa is fine,”
The sound of the ambulance doors swinging shut makes you jump.
“Shh,” Mingi squeezes your hand, “you’re safe, you’re with me,”
Everything in your body feels tense and stretched thin, but Mingi’s hand is solid in yours and you grip down on it, letting it tether you.
You listen as the ambulance pulls away, your muscles unclenching one by one as the sound of the vehicle fades.
“Woo,” You manage, “can you check on Hwa for me? And text me?”
“Yeah,” He assures you, “I got you,”
“Take a deep breath,” Mingi instructs you, “please, for me,”
You take a long inhale and meet his eyes and he nods as you let the breath out low and slow through your nose.
“Again, please,” He nods.
You breathe again, the same steady pace, “I’m tired,”
“It’s the adrenaline wearing off,” Mingi tells you, “but as soon as a doctor says you can sleep, you can rest,”
“Okay,” You nod.
San’s hand disconnects from yours and he starts to stand, “Yunho’s done,”
You twist in your seat to see him, Wooyoung stepping out of the way, and you can see Yunho jogging towards the car, “Everything okay?”
“Mhm,” Mingi keeps himself calm for you.
“That took forever,” He says, “I’m sorry,”
“It didn’t,” You shake your head, “don’t be sorry,”
“You should go,” Wooyoung interrupts, “get her looked at,”
You find your best friend’s eyes, “You’ll text me?”
“Of course I will,” He nods, “but right now just focus on yourself. We’re all okay,”
You nod, and your eyes feel heavy again already. You know they’ll be trying to keep you awake in the car at this rate.
“Let’s go,” Mingi nods, “can I have my hand back for a minute?” He smiles at you.
“Sorry,” You drop his hand, almost embarrassed at the way you’re clinging to him.
“Go,” San ushers Yunho towards the driver’s side, “if you need anything, we’re here,”
Before you know it everyone’s moving and your car door is shut. Yunho slides into the driver’s seat to your left and Mingi moves into the backseat behind you.
You meet Wooyoung’s eyes through the window and he rests a hand over his chest. He mouths a simple message - I love you, okay?
You nod and the car starts to move, but you know he knows you love him too.
Mingi shifts forwards in his seat as Yunho starts to drive, and his long arm reaches around to find your hand again. He laces your fingers together once and this time he doesn’t let go.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Later that night, the warm, rich scent of their apartment almost takes you out at the knees when you finally cross the threshold, so overwhelmingly comforting and enveloping that you want nothing more than to bury yourself inside the feeling for days. Mingi nearly runs into your back when you stop short in the entryway and Yunho’s watching you carefully as he hangs up your jackets.
“What?” Mingi nudges you gently.
There’s a million things to say. Things left unsaid after your last conversation, that fight you wish you could forget. The letter. All the things you were planning on confessing Saturday. The way you want so badly to erase today and just be with them. Every ounce of their soothing physicality after Minseok brings all your emotions up tenfold. Their tenderness almost chokes you. All the things you want to say are stuck in your throat. You need to get your head on straight. You need sleep.
“Hey,” Yunho waves a hand in front of your dazed expression, “are you alright?”
Not really. The hospital was long and awkward, seeing a glimpse of Minseok’s name on a hospital room door even worse, and the police had so many questions that all sounded fairly judgemental. Not to mention the probing questions from the hospital staff about your cycle and if you’re close to pre-heat. As if that matters at all. You settle for something a little less dire though, “I’m fine, sorry, it’s just been a while,”
Yunho’s ears darken to a deep shade of pink and he nods.
“You can sleep in my room,” Mingi offers, “like before. We can stay or not stay, it’s up to you.”
“I’d like to be alone,” You tell them, “if that’s alright,”
“Of course,” Mingi smooths a hand down your arm, “whatever you want.”
“Um,” You sigh heavily, “honestly I’m exhausted. I think I might just shower and sleep as long as you don’t mind,”
Yunho shakes his head, gesturing towards the hall, “Not at all, just… call if you need anything,”
You start back towards the bathroom, your eyes down and away from them, but Mingi calls out, “You remember where everything is?”
There’s no way you could forget, and you call back that you’re fine. You got it. You just need to be alone, alone is good, alone feels safe.
In the shower you scrub your skin raw, spending extra time and attention on your glands even though it makes your skin there puffy and red, pinpricks of blood at the surface of your skin and lilac bruises surrounding every edge. It doesn’t matter how comforting their scents are, nothing is taking away the deep intent of Minseok’s mouth on your neck - and the bitter, burnt citrus smell takes ages to wash away. By the time you finish, you’re about ready to collapse.
Mingi leaves you clothes again, folded neatly on his bed and ready for you. They’re nowhere to be seen, taking your plea for time alone seriously. He’s laid out a clean pair of sleep pants and a t-shirt, both fresh from the wash. The hoodie you had stolen during your heat lies next to it, and it’s a kind gesture, but suddenly you don’t want it. You want nothing.
You toss the hoodie to the side and start to climb into the bed, but that smells so heavily of cinnamon spice that you can’t think straight. You had just gotten used to blissfully smelling nothing after your shower, and so you strip the bed entirely, discarding all of the pillows and blankets and sheets into the farthest corner of the room.
The mattress is bare now, but once you turn the circulating fan off you fix the issue of the cold and his scent washing over you every time you try to close your eyes. You can still sense him, sense them, somewhere in the background, but here on the stripped bed in sterilized clothes with your skin rubbed raw, you can rest.
You drift into sleep this way, your head clear.
It doesn’t stay that way for long.
You’re not sure how long you’re asleep before you wake in abject terror, but it must be at least a couple of hours with the sky outside pitch dark and the apartment completely quiet around you. It’s obvious you’re the only one awake, but your brain can’t quite process it right. All you feel is shaking fear and the echo of hands pressing you into the wall, fingers in your hair yanking your head to the side, teeth grazing against your throat.
You scramble back, only to find the edge of the bed and you collapse off of it, ending up on the wood floor with your head spinning, Mingi’s bedside table lamp crashing down after you, a harsh flash of light pulsing through the room as the bulb breaks and gives one final dying flicker.
The pleading whine that’s caught in your throat sounds like a trapped animal to your ears, the pounding of your heart threatening to break your chest, blood rushing through your ears like a train. You can’t grasp reality, everything feels hazy and disconnected.
The door to your right bangs open, Yunho bleary and confused, but responding to your heightened state of fear within a moment. “Mingi!” He calls over his shoulder, “Mingi, get up right now,”
There’s a faraway faint noise from the other room.
Yunho skids to your side, careful not to touch you as he tries to meet your eyes in the dark, “Sweetheart, it’s just a nightmare.”
Part of you knows that you’re awake, safe and home, and not trapped in subspace with a threatening hand in your hair, but you can’t quite grip back to reality. You stutter out a reply, “I-I can’t breathe,”
“Mingi,” Yunho calls back over his shoulder again, “right now!”
“Please,” you whimper, part of your brain still lodged in the nightmare, “I can’t breathe,” Your hands cling onto the edge of the rug.
Mingi stumbles into the room now, half asleep but forced into consciousness and he’s shaking himself, catching up quickly, “What’s going on?”
You hear him, but your body is stuck remembering and you feel like there’s a weight on your chest, pressing you down harder, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,” you stutter.
“Sweetheart,” Yunho comes closer now, his body curling around you carefully with his face directly at your side, “it’s a nightmare, you’re safe.” His arms loop around you gently, but stay open in case you need to move.
“I can’t,” you shake your head, images swimming before you.
“You’re not there,” he tells you, “we’re home, you’re with us, me and Mingi,”
You wheeze, trying to regulate your breath.
“Get a light,” Yunho pleads suddenly to the dark room, and you can hear scrambling, “she can’t see where she is, get a light on.”
Mingi trips over the discarded lamp on the floor, and fumbles back to the lightswitch on the wall near the door, searching for it with his hands but reluctant to tear his eyes away from you. Suddenly the room floods with the overhead light, a stark fluorescent glow, and the black spots across your vision start to clear.
“I have you, I have you,” Yunho repeats, holding you to him.
Your hand searches blindly for Mingi on the other side of you and he collapses next to you both, taking your hand and moving in to cradle you from the opposite side, “Baby,” he murmurs, “look around, look where you are,”
Yunho’s hand on your thigh grounds you, and then Mingi softly touches your jaw to draw your gaze to him, “Look at me,”
Your eyes flick up. He looks tired, exhausted even, his hair a wayward haystack. You blink hard, “What happened to you?”
“To me?” Mingi’s brow furrows and he glances up past you to Yunho.
“You need sleep,” You manage.
Mingi laughs sharply and cups your cheeks, “I’ll sleep later. Can you tell me where you are?”
“Your place,” You manage, and you feel the nightmare receding back into your mind inch by precious inch, your breath steadying out.
“Yeah,” He sighs, “Yeah, that’s right,”
“I’m home with you,” You repeat, your fingers sinking into the plush rug beneath you.
Yunho swallows hard, fixated on the way you’ve called their apartment home, not their home, for the third time tonight. You watch the flicker of recognition in his eyes, but he lets it pass and so do you.
Tears well up in your eyes again and you sigh, “I’m sorry about your lamp,”
“What?” Mingi’s brow furrows, “Who cares about that?”
“Still,” You manage, “I’m such a mess right now,”
“If you weren’t a mess I’d be more worried,” Yunho takes your hand in his, squeezing your fingers, “and you can take all the time you need to be a mess, we’re here.”
You slump forwards onto his shoulder, “I’m… so tired,”
“Let’s get you back to bed,” Yunho soothes, his voice soft.
You nod, letting them both ease you up to your feet, but when they turn to the bed Mingi makes a soft, confused noise, “Where?”
“Oh,” You gesture towards the corner where all his bedding is wrapped up in a ball, “I’m sorry I was just… it was too much,”
Mingi’s jaw tightens, the muscles in his neck jumping as he swallows hard, and you know he’s holding down so much anger, that someone could have scared you enough that any alpha’s scent became overwhelming, that your fear might extend even to them.
“Okay,” Yunho cuts in easily, “whatever you want,”
He eases you back onto the mattress, but the idea that they might be gone again strikes a deep lance of panic through your stomach and you grasp his arm, “Don’t go,”
“Are you sure?” He murmurs.
“Please,” You insist, tugging his arm again.
He eases down beside you, and Mingi crosses to the opposite side of the bed so he can follow suit, sidling up to your back but careful not to touch you until you make it clear that you want him to. You fold your arm underneath your head and rest yourself down, and when your hair shifts off your neck you hear Yunho’s sharp intake of breath at the sight of your tender gland.
“Baby, what,” He reaches for you, fingertips hovering, “sweetheart, what did you do?”
“I’m fine,” You murmur but when you feel fingers gently coast over the raw skin you hiss sharply in pain and both their hands pull back.
“y/n,” Mingi’s voice is low, shaky, and he scoops up your arm to check your wrists, finding them as swollen and bruised, “oh my god,”
“I know,” You murmur, letting your eyes drift shut.
“This is not okay,” Mingi sounds pained, “you can’t hurt yourself like this,”
“I’m okay, I promise,”
“We could have helped,” Yunho insists, “we could have scented you again, both of us, or called Seonghwa, or something, anything,”
“Seonghwa?” You start, but Mingi cuts you off as he pushes your hair further to the side to see more of your neck.
He makes a tight noise with his tongue against his teeth, “These look tender, Yunho’s right,”
“You scented me plenty,” You shake your head, letting your hair fall back into place, “but I promise, I’m okay,”
Mingi wraps his arms around you from behind, tucking you close to his chest and dropping his head onto yours, “You’re scaring me,” he confesses into your hair.
“I know,” You murmur, “but I wasn’t trying to hurt myself,”
“And now?” Yunho asks softly.
“I’m a little better,” You pull him closer, “I was overwhelmed earlier and… even you both I didn’t want, but now? I feel safer, clearer,”
Yunho kisses your forehead, letting his lips linger as you all get your emotions back in check, “Okay,”
“Can we stay just like this?” You nuzzle into him, pulling Mingi in closer behind you until you’re snuggled up so tight you might overheat .
“I’ll be wherever you want,” Mingi wraps his hand around yours and tucks them into your chest.
Yunho murmurs his agreement softly and you nod, letting their heat soak into your body and releasing your tense muscles bit by bit. You were supposed to tell them how you felt already, you need to get it out in the open before things get too blurry again, but right now you have to let it go.
Silence stretches between the three of you, their breathing even and low, and you’re not sure if they’re asleep or awake when you make your quiet plea in the dark but in a whisper you beg them to never, ever let you go again. At least for tonight, they hold you fast.

Soft Perv! Steve x AFAB reader
Idk how else to say this. Steve shaves reader's 🐱
A/N: I feel like he'd be into that. Actually, I'm pretty damn sure he would be. Fight me idc.
You could barely see above the brown paper bags crowding your arms as you lugged your groceries inside and heaved them onto the counter in a single trip. Noting the time with a quick glance at the kitchen clock, you grimace when you see that you're running late.
You knew Steve wouldn't have minded. He would forgive you being a little behind schedule but it was you who was feeling impatient tonight. You were looking forward to it. A simple night in together, order some dinner, watch a movie and hopefully, more. You didn't like the idea of missing a moment of it. Darting back and forth, you deposited your newly purchased frozen foods and vegetables in the the refrigerator in a flurry, leaving the nonperishables behind to be put away later. Steve would be arriving soon and you were yet to shower and get changed, still cursing under your breath about getting held up at the understaffed grocery store. You make sure to leave the front door unlocked for him, figuring you could jump into the shower and be ready without keeping him waiting for too long if you hurried.
Tumblr media
You tip your head back under the running showerhead, letting the warm spray wash away your shampoo, pomegranate and black current wafting from your lathered locks and clinging to the fine mist fogging up the room. The soft foam glides down your back and freshly shaved legs, joining the water at your feet and spirals down the drain. You're about to reach for the razor sitting on your shower niche when three gentle knocks against your bathroom door alerts you to your boyfriend's arrival.
You step out of the tub carefully without toweling off, padding over to the door to inch it open enough for your face to peer through. "Hi", you greeted him with an apologetic smile, wiping the water away from your brow. "I'm so sorry but could you give me fifteen more minutes? I got held up". That's when you notice that Steve's still dressed in the same clothes he'd worn to work today, dark denim jeans that fit a little too well, making your eyes travel below his belt and a striped polo, now unobstructed by the dark green vest adorned with his nametag and the Family Video logo. "That's alright", he starts, referring to your delay. "Actually that works out, I didn't have time to stop at home. Mind if I join you? I could use a shower too".
You hesitate and he notices.
"What's wrong?", he asks, looking mildly concerned now. You'd showered together so many times before that it was hardly an unusual request for him to make.
Only this time you're a little caught off guard and just the slightest bit more embarrassed given what you were about to do in the shower. "Uh- it's just that I was about to shave", you explain hesitantly like that might suffice for an answer. You realize it didn't when he continues to look at you like you're yet to tell him what the problem was. "I don't mind", he answers when you don't say more. "It's a big tub. I wont get in your way" he adds, a little amused by your sudden nerves.
"Um- I mean, I was gonna shave...well, not my legs", you clarify, hoping he'll understand your roundabout explanation this time.
"Oh...", his brows raise, gaze lowering from your face and to the door that shielded you like he might be able to see right through it, see your body all soft and damp and trembling at the thought of showing him the places you felt too shy to reveal. You notice the glimmer in his eyes before they grow darker, his lips pulling into a soft smirk. "Can I help?"
Tumblr media
You wondered if it might have been his attempt at a joke as you stood facing him in your tub, both of you nude, sharing a kiss as more of your shampoo washed away from his once perfectly quaffed hair and coiled down the drain until the water at your feet ran clear again. You knew for certain that it wasn't some sort of attempt at humor when your passionfruit scented body wash was cleared from your bodies next and your boyfriend pulled his lips away from where they'd been kissing down your neck, whispering against your ear underneath the running water. "Wanna lean back for me, baby? relax and let me take care of it?", he reaches between your legs, gently cupping your cunt, thumb brushing over the hair there in half circles.
You have to bite down the little whine creeping up the back of your throat as he caresses you, so tender yet somehow so lewd with his touches. "Steve...are you sure?", you peer at him through your lashes, dotted with tiny droplets.
"Are you?" he countered playfully, stroking your waist with his free hand until you answered first with a nod and then audibly with a palm smoothing over his matted chest hair. "Please".
Steve never insisted on having you shave. He had made it clear that he desired you no matter the state of you, showing just as much hunger, if not more on the days that you hadn't been able to spend some extra time in the tub with your razor. You had wanted to do it because it was your preference for the night and he was only happy to be the one to assist you with such an intimate task.
You leaned back against the end of the tub for him, porcelain cold and dewy on your back as you spread your legs and rested your ankles over each edge. He liked you like this, more than he could put into words, eyes unblinking as they fixed between your legs, opening up just for him. "I can't handle it when you look at me like that", you fussed lightly, more for the sake of seeking respite from the smoldering tension rather than a sincere complaint. His eyes flicked up to yours as he positioned himself between your thighs, looking amused by your little statement. "Like what?", he challenged you for an answer, knowing it would only fluster you even more having to explain what you meant.
You pout as heat collects in your cheeks.
"Looking at me really closely. Like...you're studying me."
Like you want to swallow me whole, you thought to yourself.
"How else am I supposed to look at you right now?", he chuckled, reaching for your purple razor and the little can of shaving cream. "Want me blindfolded?", he suggested jokingly. You shuddered at the thought. "No..." you concede. "Then I'm going to keep looking" he smoothed a palm over your inner thigh. "Need to see all of you if I'm going to do this right".
You're the one watching him closely now as he deposits a dime sized portion of the shaving cream onto his palm, reaching between your parted thighs to spread the creamy foam along your skin. Your legs tense and relax as he applies it gently and thoroughly, making sure to cover every inch needed. The cocky little smirk that had remained since his bout of light teasing begins to falter now. He seemed sure of himself until he drew his fingers away from the foam, washing them clean before pinching the razor between his fingers. "Where should I start?", he looks to you for guidance, waiting patiently for your instruction.
"Oh", you think of how you usually did it yourself, wanting to suggest a safe place for him to start. "Um, over here" you pointed your index finger at the top of your mound. "Maybe, work your way down?", you offered. He nods, looking completely focused as he aimed the razor at the spot you pointed out before slowly bringing it down. You release a breath you hadn't been aware that you were holding when the blades glide smoothly over your skin, a stripe of freshly shaved skin emerging as the foam wipes away with the first stroke. "How was that?", he checked as he pulled the razor away, deep brown eyes flicking up to meet yours. "Great, keep going", you encouraged him, toes curling at the strange yet alluring reality of what you're letting him do to you.
You didn't have to guide him much after that, only sneaking looks at him as he continued. Damp locks of his hair hung over his hungry eyes, the undivided attention he gave you making your belly feel warm. Nearing the end, he runs his fingers along each area in search of any hair he might have missed. His digits trace your inner folds, thumb skimming your clit, spreading you open occasionally. You suspected those touches had little to do with making sure he'd accomplished a clean shave but you say nothing, entranced and a little breathless at how well he's handling you.
Keep touching me there, you almost let slip, teething at your bottom lip to keep yourself quiet.
"Christ, you're pretty", he mumbles under his breath, spying the slick that had begun to drip from you. You're unaware of it, naively thinking you've managed hide how turned on you've become as he swipes his thumb over your entrance lightly, wetting it with you. He subdues a laugh at the thought of you all embarrassed, trying to argue that you were entirely unaffected and that he'd mistaken the clear residue for water. The distinct slippery texture as he rubs his index finger over his thumb confirmed otherwise. He doesn't let on that he's noticed how wet you've become, placing the razor back on the niche to signal that he's finished.
You look over the remnants of shaving cream streaking your skin as he pulls the detachable showerhead off the holder and brings it between your thighs. He aims the warm spray above your mound, watching the leftover foam wash away from you. If you'd been looking at his face you might have noticed the way Steve's eyes flashed as he discreetly thumbed at the showerhead settings, finally acting on an idea he'd been sitting on for long enough. You gasp when the water turns from a gentle spray to a single stream with noticeably stronger pressure, positioning it right over your clit. "Steve!", you cry out, an electric pulse shooting through you at the surprise stimulation. "Do you like that?", he grins, a rhetorical question because of course you did. Anyone who'd heard your sultry cry of his name would know you liked it very much.
Your eyes are wide, mouth agape as he directs the stream of water away from your clit to hold your attention.
"I want to watch you cum", grin fading to show you that he's serious.
"That's fair, right? I did just help you out after all"
You don't bother reminding him that he was the one who had asked to help in the first place, not the other way around. "Y-yeah", you stutter out your response instead, surprise receding to make way for the need growing hot inside you. "Fuck- yes. Please Steve, make me cum".
He directs the stream back over your clit and your breath catches in your throat, toes curling as the pressure beats down on your swollen bundle of nerves.
"Just relax and let me take care of it", he reminds you, lips curving into a dangerous smile.

When you were twenty, you had graduated from bed-ford college, which was very uncommon since not many people could read or write, but luckily your mother learnt you from a young age how to both which allowed you to complete your studies.
However, this meant that when people found out you were from London and had gone to one of the most prestigious colleges for young women, you were judged. Most people thought you were a privileged woman from a rich family. Unknownst to anyone but yourself, you aren't. You lived in a one bedroom apartment with your mother and two younger sisters. Your father had left your mother ,after your youngest sister was born, for a younger woman.
As you grew up, your mother had become ill, she had began to suffer from Melancholia, as her doctor described it. She never recovered from it and died when you had moved back home after graduating. When your mother died, your young sisters were left in your care and you decided you wanted to leave London and find somewhere else for your sisters to grow up. After nearly four years, you found your current home, Birmingham.
You loved your job, all you had to do was respond to letters for Tommy, make sure his schedule was up to date, make sure there weren’t any over laps and make meetings on his behalf. The only bad part of the job was sharing the room with tommys other secretary, Lizzie stark. At first, when she had started working two weeks after you started. She was nice, you spoke everyday, had lunch together whilst on break but once you started to get closer to Tommy she began to change.
At the beginning, you pretended not to notice, thinking maybe she was just having a bad day but every time you went into tommys office without knocking or every time Tommy comes in work, he stops to speak to you and asks you how your weekends been and how you sisters are, Lizzie would grumble under her breath and when you weren't looking would steal the paperwork Tommy gave you to sort out so she could do it and claim you weren't.
Today was one of the days that Lizzie was being extremely bitchy, it was a Friday afternoon which meant Tommy wasn't in the office most of the day. He was either at a meeting or in the betting shop. This left you and Lizzie alone.
You had just gone into tommys office to put the paperwork Tommy needed on his desk when Lizzie walks in as well.
“ Tommy has a lot of whores, one for each month, which one are you?”she sits down at the round oak table, getting out a cigarette then lights it.
You turn around to look at Lizzie and frowns, not understanding the purpose of this conversation “ what Mr Shelby does in his personal life is none of my business”
“don't act dumb, you know what i'm talking about Y/N” Lizzie spits, venom lacing her voice.
“ i don't think we should be having this conversation when Mr Shelby isn't here, its not appropriate” you asserted, picking up another pile of paperwork, being to walk back to the double doors that leads out to you desk and Lizzie.
The sound of scuffing catches your attention, making you stop walking and look towards Lizzie once again “ get off your high horse Y/N, this is Birmingham everyone is a whore, they don’t have money to act like they are better then everyone” Lizzie barked, pointing a finger at you.
Your heart begins to race, the blood running through your veins begin to rush to your face, causing your cheeks to begin to heat up, it was like someone had turned up your internal thermostat to the maximum and now your face is a shade of red that would make a tomato jealous.
“ i'm sorry if i offended you in some way, i did not intend too” you apologise, you knew you hadn't said anything offensive but you didn't like confrontation and you wanted to avoid yelling in any possible way.
Lizzie takes a drag of her cigarette “ you are so insufferable, i dont know how your family deals with you” she chuckles under her breath.
At the mention of your family, you take a shakey breath and turn away from lizzie “ i need to start this paperwork” . As soon as you sit back at your desk, you began to look through the paperwork but you couldn't concentrate. what Lizzie said to you runs laps in your head, making your chin begin to quiver as your eyes begin to fill with tears.
Unfortunately, at the same time polly walks through the main doors into the building, she walks over to you. Wiping under your eyes quickly, putting a smile on your face.
“ hello Polly, what can i do for you?” you ask softly, your voice breaking slightly as you try to hold in your emotions.
Polly raises an eyebrow and places her purse down on your desk, watching as Lizzie walks out of tommys office with a smirk on her face but as soon as she sees Polly, she quickly covers it with a smile.
“whats happened?” Polly asks, suspicion filling her words, looking between Lizzie and you.
“ nothing pol, just talking business” Lizzie puts on a smile and looks towards you, her eyes widening for a second to tell you not to say anything.
“yes, just business” you agree, nodding slightly.
Polly hums “ if you say so, anyway is Tommy free in the afternoon this week” she asks.
You grab his schedule from your draw and begins to look through this weeks page he's free Wednesday afternoon from two o'clock onwards” you grab your pen “would you like me to write you in for a meeting with him”
Polly smiles and grabs her purse again “ yes, thank you Y/N, your a doll” she kisses your cheek softly then leaves.
The visit from Polly, helped you distract yourself from the situation with Lizzie, you smile happily as you begin to write down the information bout polly's meeting in tommys schedule. As you begin to write in the book, the ink tub falls onto the page causing you to gasp.
You look up and see Lizzie standing in front of your desk, smirking. she lights another cigarette “opps, i guess you'll have to tell Tommy you ruined his book” she tuts, shaking her head.
Once again, your pulse begins to race, your heart starts to beat so incredibly loudly, louder then gunshots. Your hands shake as you begin to try and pat the ink with her handkerchief but it wasn't working.
“no,no,no” your eyes begin to well up with tears for the second time, in less them an hour. You look up at Lizzie, disbelief in your eyes.
“ why would you do that, this has all of Tommy's schedules” you ask astonished.
“ you don't belong here, I've known Tommy before you even were in Birmingham, i should be sat in your chair. Everyday i have to see you prim and proper, giggling at Tommy” Lizzie rants angrily.
Unknownst, to both of them. Polly was still behind the door listening to the conversation. she knew something was wrong so she wanted to listen in case they were hiding something.
Polly leaves the office, determined to find Tommy to tell him what she heard between his secretaries. however, she couldn't find him.
It had been a few hours since the incident, you were quiet s you write a letter to Tommy, you have decided to leave your position of head secretary, you couldn't cope with the daily taunting from Lizzie.
The sound of the door opening and close catches both of the women's attention, you stand up immediately when you see Tommy.
“ Mr Shelby, i need to speak with you if that's alright” you ask softly as you walk around your desk, to stand beside Tommy.
Tommy nods and lights the cigarette that was resting between his lips “ come through to my office miss Y/N” he gently places his hand on the small of your back as you begin to walk to his office with him.
As the door to his office closes, you didn't notice Lizzie watching you. Her eyes like daggers.
“please sit” Tommy nods to the chair by his desk as he sits in his own chair, slowly blowing out the smoke from his mouth. You gulp and nod, sitting down slowly on the cold brown leather seat. the coldness helping to cool down your skin.
“ I've been thinking for the past couple of weeks, and i didn't want to do this but its the best thing for me” you explain, nervously fiddling with the letter in your hands. Your hand shake as you give Tommy the letter “ i'm giving in my notice as Secretary, i will be leaving this company after we finish this conversation”
Tommy frowns, taking the letter gently “ may i ask why” he raises an eyebrow, looking towards your direction. you end up making eye contact for the first time during this conversation.
You smile slightly, your eyes showing that you were distressed “ no reason, i just feel ready to move on”
The next day
Tommy had organised a company/ family meeting, he had some business to talk about. Lizzie had to sit in the meeting since you use to but now you had left your position, no one else can do it.
Tommy had ordered two peaky blinders to watch your flat, wanting you to be protected since people knew you were associated with them.
The meeting had started nearly half an hour ago, however Polly just noticed Lizzie sitting at the table. She frowns “ Thomas, where is Y/N?”
Tommy sighs and leans against the wall, taking out his cigarette holder then opens it “Y/N has decided to move on with her career and no longer work for me” he announces.
Polly raises an eyebrow, glancing at Lizzie, seeing her smirk slightly “ have something to say Lizzie?” her voice full of bitter.
Lizzie shakes her head, no saying anything. Tommy nods and lights his cigarette “ Lizzie, by tomorrow afternoon i need an advert in the paper for a new head secretary” he explains.
Lizzie frowns “you're looking for someone else, i thought i would take that position” she admits.
Polly chuckles and shakes her head “ is that why you forced Y/N to leave? or is it because you want to fuck Thomas?” she quizzes.
Lizzie blushes slightly as Tommy raises an eyebrow and looks towards her.
“is that right Lizzie?” he asks, his eyes turning cold.
“ it wasn't fair Thomas, she came in and you gave her the job straight away without even knowing her” she snaps, putting down her pen. The room went quiet after lizzies confession.
“you were jealous of her so you made her feel bad about herself so much that she left her job? ey? are you fucking proud of yourself” his voice begins to rise as he speaks.
“it wasn't-” Lizzie begins to defend herself when Tommy interrupts her.
“ By the end of today, i want your desk cleared and you stuff gone, you're fired” he points to the door as he speaks, Polly smirking as she watches Lizzie stand up and rush out of the door. As soon as Lizzie left, a blinder rushes into the room.
“Tommy, shes leaving. we followed her to the train station. shes got bags and her sisters are with her as well” he states, catching his breath.
Tommy immediately grabs his coat and cap, rushing out of the betting shop.
At the train station
The sound of people yelling and rushing to and from trains fills your ears as you carry your bags, your sisters infront of her, walking towards the platform where your train back to London would arrive. The clunking and screeching of train engines makes you flinch slightly, you never get use to that sound.
Your train was due for another hour but you wanted to have enough time for your sisters to say goodbye to their friends before you went to the train station.
As you sat on the bench with your sisters, you didn’t hear Tommy calling your name since the platform was extremely loud. However, in the corner of your eye you see him walking over.
“ girls, stay here” you instruct, standing up.
You walk over to Tommy, looking up at him as you both stand infront of each other. However, you didn’t have time to say anything before Tommy kisses you. You didn’t know what to do at first but after a few seconds you felt your shoulders relax as you ease into the kiss.
Time slows, your lips felt like they were made to connect with each other. The feeling of Tommys hand on your cheek causes goosebumps to arrise on your skin. You had wanted his mouth on your for months, but now it’s happening, you want to savour the moment.
Your lips part softly, chasing tommys as he pulls away “ what was that for?” You whisper, biting your lip ever so softly.
“ I should have done it awhile ago” he whispers, stroking your cheek bone gently “ come back, I know what happened, lizzies gone” he explains, looking into his eyes. His pupils blown.
You smile, chuckling under your breath “ okay” you whisper, putting your hand over his.
Tommy brushes his pad of his thumb over your bottom lip. A silent harmony parts your lips as a soundless breath leaves your mouth. Your eye lids slide shut as Tommy leans in, brushing his lips across yours, feeling the coldness of his skin, like snowflakes trundling down from the sky. The soft pillow of your mouth gives Tommy the pressure that he longed for.
This is the light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re so glad you survived.
A/N: hey guys, I don’t really like this one. It feels rushed and it’s unedited so there are a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes. Please do like and comment, I appreciate all of your support ❤️

if your requests are still open for svt fics, could you do one where dino and the reader do a danceology together kind of like a meet cute?
asdfghjkl that's such a cute scenario, and of course I'd love to do a fic on it 😍!! I hope you enjoy <33
Right place, right time
Tumblr media
genre: fluff, meet-cute (sort of??)
pairing: idol!Dino x idol!reader
summary: What are the chances that you would be able to dance with the one person you've who you've always wished to dance with?
The answer? Next to zero.
So, you would've never guessed the way your wish to dance with Dino would come true by you happening to be in the right place at exactly the right time. Fate truly outdid itself this time.
warnings: a little bit of swearing
note: I don't know much about dancing, so I apologize for any errors relating to the topic of dancing in this fic 😭😭. Enjoy <33
Tumblr media
The events that led up to this situation are a blur to you.
One second you're peacefully drinking a latte and letting your manager brief you about your schedule for the day. The next second, you're being whisked away and practically tossed into Seventeen's dance practice room to participate in Dino's danceology video.
Apparently Dino had been planning to do a danceology video with a different idol, but then that idol suddenly declined today, the day they were going to shoot the video, due to a scheduling error.
This left Dino's managers scrambling, for someone—anyone, who could participate in Dino's video. Which was why when they stumbled across your figure sitting near a window, they practically got on their knees and begged you to help them out and do a video with Dino.
Which you agreed to do, because how could you ever refuse that offer?
Truthfully, you had always been a fan of Dino's danceology videos. Heck, you were even subscribed to Seventeen's channel on youtube just so that you could watch Dino's danceology videos. As a fellow idol who loved to dance, you couldn't help but appreciate and admire Dino's dance skills from afar. The way he was strong and sharp with all his movements, but at the same time graceful and smooth never failed to leave you in awe.
Which leads you back to the situation you are in now. No longer are you just watching Dino behind a screen, now you're watching Dino, no screen between you and him, as he starts to stretch only a few feet away from you.
"Hey, wanna join me in my stretches?" Dino asks casually from his position on the floor once he notices your presence.
Relived to finally have something to do instead of awkwardly standing near the door, you quickly make your way towards Dino and copy the stretches he's doing.
"Sorry my managers had to drag you here to do this danceology video," Dino says sympathetically once you get settled onto the floor next to him. "Everything's kind of a mess right now, so thank you so much for taking the place of the previous idol and dancing with me."
"Oh no, it's no problem. Besides, I voluntarily agreed to dance with you! To be honest, I've always liked your danceology videos, so it's really nice that I can finally participate in one," you say truthfully, as you watch a relived smile appear on Dino's face.
When you and Dino move onto the next stretch, Dino seems to remember something as he suddenly sits up, his eyes widening. "Oh, I never got to introduce myself property! I'm Lee Chan, but you can just call me Dino. I'm looking forward to dancing with you today," Dino says with a sincere smile as he holds out his hand.
You quickly reciprocate Dino's smile and take his hand to give it a shake. "I'm Y/n, and I look forward to dancing with you too."
As you're shaking Dino's hand, everything feels so surreal.
You're really going to be dancing with Dino.
This isn't just a dream.
Tumblr media
Watching Dino's danceology videos online didn't do his dance skills justice. Although, yes, Dino's danceology videos online showcased his already impressive dancing. Watching Dino make a choreography, learn the choreography, and teach you the choreography in real life was on a whole new level.
You couldn't help but notice how Dino made sure every minuscule detail was absolutely perfect. From the way he would move a certain part of his arms, to the way he made sure you and him were perfectly in sync.
"Your arms have to move like this, not like this," Dino instructed as he first showed you the way you were doing it, before showing you the right way, his arms moving up more slowly and gracefully to demonstrate. A tiny detail, that could make a big difference in the overall performance of the dance.
Still, even with his instructions, Dino could tell you didn't quite understand what he was trying to say. "How about I show you? Uh..do you mind if I touch you?"
Seeing your nod of confirmation, Dino walks behind you so that his chest presses against your back.
What. The. Fuck.
Blushing at the sudden physical contact, you try to control your breathing and focus on what Dino is saying.
Grabbing hold of your wrists, Dino demonstrates, again, how the dance is supposed to look. "Make your wrists a bit looser so that the movement looks more smooth and graceful," Dino instructs as he leads you through the movement. "Do you understand?"
You did not understand.
But that was your own fault.
While Dino was trying to teach you how to do the movement right, you weren't focusing on Dino's instructions. But rather, Dino himself. His muscular chest that was pressing against your back, his fluffy brown hair that fell beautifully across his forehead, and his gentle but leading touch made your brain completely shut off.
Noticing the sudden silence and Dino's eyes on you, you quickly snap back to reality. "U-uh.. sorry I wasn't paying attention," you mutter, embarrassed as a tint of pink litters your cheeks.
Dino simply laughs in response. "I figured, you looked like you were spacing out. Should we go through the movement one more time then?"
Seeing your nod of agreement, Dino leads you, again, through the movements. This time, you pay attention and quickly fix the mistakes Dino was pointing out.
Before you know it, you and Dino finished the rest of the choreography and filmed it without a hitch.
As you begin to pack up to leave and go to thank all the staff, you hear a voice from behind you. "Today was really fun for me. It might be too soon to say, but I really like you and would love if we could meet again for another dance video...or a date if you wanted."
Turning around, you're met with the sight of a blushing Dino. Laughing in disbelief, you reply happily, "a date sounds nice, here's my phone number."
"Well, I have to go. See you soon," you say with a gleeful smile on your face before adding on to say "Oh, one last thing before I forget."
Taking a step closer to Dino, you quickly lean closer to his face to give him a small peck on the cheek before running out the door waving goodbye.
As you turn around to get one last good look at Dino before you go down the hallway, you giggle at the way his cheeks are now a bright shade of pink as he softly holds the cheek you just kissed.
Walking down the hallway, in both disbelief and utter giddiness, you can't help but think of the fact that if you weren't in the right place at the right time today, you might've never met Dino.
You wouldn't have been able to dance with Dino, you wouldn't have been able to kiss Dino's cheek, and you wouldn't be walking down the hallway now with your phone containing Dino's phone number, the promise of a date in the future making you blush.

If requests are still open, could you please do Soft!Dark!Daddy!CEO!Carol forcing herself on Secretary!Reader? Bonus points if she's trying to convince Reader to become her sugar baby.
warnings: smut, coercion, imbalanced power dynamics, daddy kink, strap on usage
sorry this took four centuries
"We both know you want me, just take the offer. I promise it's much better than working at a desk all day."
The fabric covered bulge pressing against your ass was too much on its own. It was overstimulating when combined with the fact you were forcefully bent over a desk by your boss of all people. Carol had always been a little inappropriate towards you, but you never thought it'd get that bad.
"Ms. Danvers, you have to stop! You have a meeting in-" Your attempt to push Carol away only earned a harsh slap on your backside. A low moan escaped from your lips before you could catch it. "I'm not interested in your proposition! Now let me go!" Every time you pushed Carol simply pushed back twice as hard.
"All they do is try to squeeze my pockets dry, but you're always there to make sure that doesn't happen. Don't you think you deserve a reward for keeping this company safe?" Carol pulled away just long enough to spin you around so your back was against the desk. Her hands groped at your ass before stripping your lower half. "Just let this happen, okay? Being my baby is so much better than worrying about those shit heads."
Another moan escaped your lips as Carol swirled the tip of her strap-on around your clit. "M-Ms. Danvers, this is really inappropriate! I can't- I can't just quit my job because you want to date me!" You tried pushing Carol off of you only to have your forcefully pinned to the side. Before you could even complain, your boss had buried herself deep inside your walls. "Ah- no! Stop that, please!"
Carol held both of your wrists with one hand and used the other one to stroke your face. "Shush, it's okay baby. You don't have to quit if you don't want to. That just means we'll have to keep it a secret." She whispered into your ear as she began rutting into you. A smile spread across her face as your moan started to get louder. "That's it, just let daddy make you feel good."
The title should've made you uncomfortable. It should've disgusted you how your boss had forced herself on to you and then took control of your body like it was nothing. But it didn't. The wetness leaking from your cunt and onto Carol's pants was proof enough. "Fine, fine! You win, just ah- we can't be late to this meeting!" You attempted to squirm away only for Carol to pull you back down flush against her hips.
"Awe, you're such a hard worker, but daddy would much rather spend time with you today. Why don't you clear my schedule for me, hm?" Carol reached into her back pocket and handed you her phone. "Go ahead, do your job since you want to work so bad." She watched as you hopelessly fumbled with her cellphone to make calls.
You took a deep breath and held the phone close to your ear, hoping the caller wouldn't hear the vulgar sounds coming from your pussy. "Uhm, hello. This is Ms. Danvers' secretary speaking. I was calling to tell you that-" You nearly screamed when Carol started playing with your clit. "That she unfortunately has to cancel today's meeting due to…uh, personal matters. Would it be fine if we rescheduled at the same time tomorrow? I- we could arrange a hotel room for you if necessary!" The call felt like it went on forever. Usually you were so quick with your responses.
"You're doing such a good job for daddy. We can buy you something really cute once I'm done with you for the day." She stroked your cheek like you were some sort of pet. "You want a reward, don't you?" She affectionately squeezed your cheeks.
You nodded, unsure of what else to do. You didn't want to watered down to some human fleshlight, but Carol was much too strong for you to fight. All you could do was obey. "I- daddy, I think I'm gonna cum!" Your declaration lit a fire in Carol. Her thrusts became tougher. If you weren't on the brink of the best orgasm of your life, you would've been worried about breaking the desk. "Fuck, fuck, I'm cumming! Sorry-" A wave of arousal shot through your body and right out onto Carol's pants.
"Fuck, baby. Are you always this messy or are you just happy to have a new daddy?" Her thrusts got slower until she was sure your orgasm was over. She slid out and sat down in her chair. "Ah ah ah, let daddy see you." She spread your legs apart and marveled at the mess between them. "You're such a pretty thing." She whispered before dipping her finger into your cunt.

Randomly Cuddling Them
A/n: Hahaha hiiii (;^ω^)it's meeeee I'm baaaaack In all seriousness, I've been dealing with a shit ton of stuff and summer depression is kicking my ass. I'm sorry I haven't posted in ages even when I promised I would, I just haven't been able to motivate myself to write. I won't promise you guys a schedule or another fic anytime soon, but I will say that I have no intentions of deleting this blog or stopping writing all together. Just be patient with me and to those who have requested things, I'm sorry I haven't answered them. They'll all come in due time :) In the meantime, have some fluff to make you forget about your depression.
Warnings: none, fluff, slight angst(?)
Gn Reader Masterlist
Steven
Welcomes the cuddle with open arms
He'll ask if you’re ok a few times, just wanting to make sure his darling is feeling well
He'll pet your hair and start talking about his day or a new book he's read to fill the silence
"You wouldn't believe the ending though! The main character has to sacrifice his "
Just sort of talks about anything to fill the comfortable silence, hoping it'll distract you from anything that's stressing you out
Definitely playfully brags to Jake and Marc in the headspace during and after the cuddles
"They wanted to cuddle with me :D"
Once you're ready to pull away, he'll give you a kiss on the forehead and continue reading or whatever it was before, but keeps an eye on you
He isn't sure what brought on the cuddles, and while he loves them, he wants to make sure you're ok
If you start looking upset or frustrated with a task, he'll gently pull you away from whatever you're doing and sit you on the couch
"Lovey, you can finish it later, just sit with me for a bit yeah?"
He'll pull you into his chest and read aloud from his book or ramble about something to distract you
He'll play with your fingers, interlacing them and kissing your finger tips before holding your hand to his face
"Love you, darling"
He'll say in the sweetest voice, you'll forget all about the stresses of the day or the stresses of tomorrow
Mission accomplished
Marc
He's a little caught off guard, but pulls you into his arms eagerly
He'll never turn down cuddles (cough touch starved cough)
He'll run his fingers through your hair or rub his hand up and down your back
He'll ask if you're ok, but won't push past that
He'll stay silent unless you ask him to talk
"Uh... I saw a lizard earlier today. It reminded me of you cause it was cute :)"
He's trying his best
If you stay in his arms for a long period of time, he'll start to think something might be wrong so he'll start making really really bad jokes
"I went to the deli earlier and the sausage they gave me was the wurst :D"
He won't stop until you laugh and he's not above tickling you until you pee your pants
It's like he unlocks a little box inside his head of terrible jokes and playfulness just for the purpose of seeing you smile
After the cuddles session, he'll watch over you carefully
If you start looking stressed or tired or anything but relaxed, he'll pop off with another joke
"Ya know, babe, I used to hate facial hair. But then it grew on me."
Is that a frown on your perfect lips? Not on his watch
"I don't think I told you this before, but I used to be able to play piano by ear. Now I have to play it with my hands."
Eventually, if you start looking too stressed, he'll just pull you into another cuddle session
"Can't have my baby getting stressed."
He'll explain, kissing you on the forehead and shushing you if you try to leave
He'll carry you to bed or the couch, locking you underneath him with his head on your chest
"So comfy, might just fall asleep here."
He snores loudly, trying to coax a giggle or two out of you
And when you fall asleep from the warmth he gives off, he'll watch you with love in his eyes
"Goodnight, babe. I love you."
Jake
There're two ways this could go depending on how he feels
He could be very smug about it, hold you tightly to his chest, mutter things like 'poor bebito/a, so needy for their Papi~' and make sexual or teasing jokes to lighten the mood
Or he could hold you securely in his arms, run his fingers across your back, occasionally kiss your head, and ask in a hushed voice 'what's wrong, mi amor?'
He thrives on physical affection, so either way he's incredibly happy to give it to you
Whether it be a quick kiss, setting his hand on the small of your back as he walks by, resting his hand on your thigh as he drives, or just touching your knee with his in a crowded space, he loves all of it
And depending on why you suddenly held onto him, he'll be very attentive
If he's making jokes when you just want to be held, he'll pick up in it right away and mutter a small apology with a kiss
He'll hum a song he heard on the radio, he'll keep his breathing long and slow to help calm you down if needed, he'll even read you one of Steven's 'boring' books
He's like Marc in a way, they'll both do absolutely everything in their power to make you smile or laugh if the situation calls for it
If you've gotten your fill of cuddles and start to pull away, he'll pout and pull you back down, muttering something about feeling cold without you on top of him
Which is a lie, they run extremely hot which has cancelled many cuddle sessions in the summer because 'It's too hot, Jake! And don't give me those puppy eyes!'
He refuses to let you go until you explicitly tell him you want him to
He'll act all sad, but he lets you go after a passionate kiss
Openly watches you closely afterwards, determined to see any slip of annoyance or frustration so he can whisk you away to your shared room and cuddle the stress away
And the second your brow twitches in frustration, he's coming up behind you and hugging you
"Bebito/a, dance with me."
He'll say, already swaying to the music playing in his head
He'll spin you around and subtly drag you away from the chore or work you were doing with a charming smile and his swaying hips
When you've rested your head on his chest and sigh softly, following the shuffling of his feet and sway of his hips, he knows he's succeeded in calming you down

some informal thoughts
hello! hope the holiday season has been kind to all of you. and i hope all my jewish followers had a lovely hanukkah! anyways, since i said a few months ago that i’d pick poetry smackdown back up sometime around this time of year, i thought i should make a post. the gist of it is that i’m still quite busy, i have a break that’s about three weeks shorter than I was planning on, and i don’t currently have the mental bandwidth required to read, contemplate, and sort through poem submissions in a way that does justice to them, even if i were to recruit some friends to help out. since running a tournament format requires at least five weeks of continued engagement once it’s underway, and since i’m not at capacity to offer that right now due to the change in my schedule, i’m gonna have to bow out for now. sad bc i was looking forward to it!
my hope is that i’ll have some more time over the summer to hunker down with it, in which case you’ll be hearing from me. it’ll frankly depend on the kind of job i land in for the summer, but i find that my unemployed spirit can typically keep me doing stupid shit regardless of workload...to a point. i don’t want to make any promises because i don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up just to let them down again LOL. i do admit the amount of exposure the first tournament got has made me feel like more of a perfectionist this time around, doubly because i don’t feel that i’m very suited to being a public online presence (even a relatively quite small one)—i’m bad enough at responding to emails for my own real life responsibilities, let alone tumblr asks for the silly responsibilities i invent for myself lol. that’s not to say i no longer want to do it, or i don’t enjoy it, or even that i don’t feel capable of making a really interesting bracket—just that if i am working to put something new together, and if people are taking the time to submit poems they care about, then i don’t want to half-ass it.
my second admission is something like this. I made the original bracket as a celebration of poetry and our relationships to it. yes it was silly and competitive, and the poems were very tumblr, but still, celebration was the intention—I wanted to have conversations about poetry. I stand by the bracket format as a fun and valuable way to foster conversations about poetry, but truthfully, the poems i’m wanting to have conversations about right now—the poems that we should be talking about right now—are ones that i'm not comfortable putting in a bracket. I reblogged The Baffler’s Poems from Palestine collection on here earlier, and Najwan Darwish’s “Who Remembers The Armenians?”, which I still often find repeating through my head when I'm traveling from one place to another, walking home or riding the bus. I came across this beautiful thread recently where people have been translating Dr. Refaat Alareer’s “If I Must Die” into their own languages (this just makes my translator's heart sing!!!!!!). @havingapoemwithyou has been posting some great poems from and for Palestine as well—check out their tag here.
There's always more to add, and I'll be posting more on here as I come across it, but that's what I feel anyone should be focusing on right now when it comes to poetry. i think poetry can be an escape but it should never be a distraction. does that make sense? i wouldn't be against doing a one-off poll here or there, but it feels weird to be making a tournament for poetry right now, or anytime soon. i feel like what free time i have right now is still best utilized helping my friends with organizing in the real world. and god, a bit off-topic but while I'm talking, fuck poetry foundation—I have so much respect for all the poets keeping up the boycott, because while i think it's a simple decision, it's not always an easy one (Aurielle Lucier discussed that here).
anyways, if you read all of this, thank you for your time!! I could go on and on, but really this was just meant to be a message telling y'all that there won't be another tournament for a while lol. even so i'll be trying to use this small silly platform as best i can until palestine is free because that's the absolute least i can do.

LUXIEM Bedtime Routine
Writing type: Headcanons
Rating: SFW
Total Word count: 1036≈(before edits)
Other notes: Implied some sort of established relationship with the reader (you can interpret as platonic or romantic, it's up to you)
Featured?: Ike, Myta, Vox, Luca, and Shu
Author comment: HA! with a blog name like mine you'd expect a XSOLEI headcanons first but gotta keep them guessing ig.... Please enjoy;; my headcanons are a stream of my consciousness if anything; I haven't written anything publicly in like a year ahaha (killme)
Disclaimer and Reminder; this is based on the characters made by NIJISANJI, not the people behind the character voicing them. If in the future the person expresses or states that fics of this nature makes them uncomfortable I will 100% remove this or anything I write about the characters involved.
Tumblr media
Bedtime routine:
Always has a cup of sleepy time tea before bed
Will force you to drink one too (because you both have no sleep schedule <3)
For nights where you both go to sleep on time, skin care routine
Hear me out.... I'm talking face masks, creams the full sends baby
Once all of that is taken care of y'all will eventually change into whatever you sleep in (Oliver-sensei outted Ike the other day for sleeping in only boxers lmfao but that's not relevant)
He will spend at least an hour reading in bed before falling asleep, be prepared with a sleeping eye mask maybe?
Or start a night time books club with him because he will not change this
He is a novelist after all
Once he's done reading and the glasses come off, one of two things will happen
He will fall asleep immediately
Or you guys will be up for the majority of the night talking about deep stuff
You know those sleepovers you have with your homies where it gets deep, that's what I mean
Regardless what time you pass out you are sure to sleep safe next to Ike!
Extras:
Ike doesn't strike me as a guy who likes to cuddle in bed, if anything you accidently snuggle up to him he'll shuffle away from you
He sometimes will fall asleep at his desk which is a habit he only started since streaming, back when he was novelist he didn't have this problem for some reason
Ike sleeps with like one blanket? I hope you like the cold <3
Tumblr media
Bedtime routine:
I feel like Mysta's bedtime routine is a wildcard, you never know what he's gunna be doing to eventually end up in bed
You brush your teeth and he goes "OoOOoh I knew I was forgetting to do something."
Sleeping feels more like a chore to him then a necessity
You'll catch this man up at 3 am playing Minecraft and he'll still be like "Oh shit, is it bedtime?"
He's a piece of work to even get him to start to migrate towards the bedroom
Once he finally changes and lays down; he's kind of like Ike, where he'll immediately pass out or will spend hours talking to you
However the conversations are more like "Why is cheddar cheese orange do you think?"
GOOGLE IT IDK I'M TIRED
Once he finally falls asleep he 100% mumbles in his sleep, you find it endearing as you slip on a pair of headphones or earplug's
Extras:
Opposed to Ike; you will wake up either cuddling or being cuddled by Mysta
Despite the struggle to get this man into bed, he sleeps better next to someone
Known to occasionally sleep walk
You found him in the bathtub one time it was kinda scary
He firmly denies this ever happened
Tumblr media
Bedtime Routine:
Vox is very ritualist when it comes to bedtime
He's also a very sleepy demon and enjoys maximizing his sleep to its full extent
So with him it's very "no nonsense"
He takes a shower
Blow-dries and cares for his hair
He brushes his teeth (While still in a towel)
Again h e a r m e o u t....
He's a voice demon that came back to life, he has a skincare routine for bedtime (Still in a towel btw)
All luxury products of course
After that he change into something comfy
For some reason after all of that this man sleeps in mismatched socks like a sociopathy
Once y'all lay down he'll watch some stupid memes on his phone of a bit or do some light reading
There is no in between
Once he's done however he is out like a light, usually within an arms reach of you
Extras:
Similarly to Mysta, you will wake up in his arms
It's funny because he insists it's entirely your doing
On the rare occasions where he can't sleep he'll get up and cook something
He says it helps him relax
The delicious aroma however wakes you up and the two of you share a lovely midnight snack
Tumblr media
Bedtime Routine:
Luca tends to stay up really late
This is partial because of old work habits (if no ones awake to see you get rid of a body then it isn't a problem)
Luca like Vox though has bit of a ritualist bedtime getting ready routine though
Shower
Brush teeth
Change
Without fall no matter how late into the night (morning) it is
Once in bed, he crashes
The man is out like a light
I think because his bedroom is definitely his own space he feels at ease and can just doze off
It does help that he has a very nice bed I guess too
Once again you know you can sleep safe next to Luca, he wouldn't let anything disturb you
Extras:
Like Mysta, Luca does occasionally talks in his sleep, but not nearly as loud as Mysta does
He doesn't strike me as the cuddling type either, i think if you tired it wake him up
Despite being able to sleep easily he also wakes up super easily
Again probably due to his pat
Fear not though, once Luca let's his gaurd down again he passses out pretty quickly again
Tumblr media
Bedtime routine:
Shu, like Ike, has a big cup of tea before bed
He swears up and down that drinking something warm before bed gets you to sleep faster
He's also diligent with his night time hygiene needs
Once again; for the final time, I'm asking you to hear me out
Skin
Care
Routine
You cannot sit here and tell Mr. Shu Sorcerer Yamino (eyyyyyyyyy) doesn't take good care of his skin
Off track but anyway
Kind of like Luca, once he's in bed he is out
I also feel like Shu snores but like not loud? It's kinda like white noise (like listening to ocean??)
Sleep well sweet sorcerer
Extras:
Shu is also not a cuddler, he's more the type to like accidently fall out of bed if you snuggle up to him
He doesn't like feeling the extra body heat on him while he sleeps
Off topic again but he also has a strict morning routine which consists of him getting up early
He's be trying to get you on board but like sleep ya know?
(My request are open plz send me some)

spinning out, waiting for you to pull me in
“Hey,” Amanda's voice quivers. She physically can't look Angela in the eyes when she greets her. Fuck, this shouldn’t be happening right now. The day has barely started and Amanda already feels like running away from everyone.
Angela looks at her skeptically, “I would say ‘Good morning,’ but you look like yours has been pretty terrible already. Everything okay?”
Amanda collects herself enough to muster a sort-of smile and shrugs. She watches as Angela furrows her brows, contemplating something. Before Amanda can insist that it’s no big deal, she feels herself getting tugged towards the back of the office and led between the costume racks.
“Spill. What’s up with you?”
“It’s nothing, honestly,” God, Amanda feels like she’s a teenager again. It’s stupid that she’s this upset about it.
Angela scoffs and rolls her eyes, “Oh, come on, Amanda. Don’t give me that bullshit. We both know something is wrong,” her tone softens once she sees Amanda’s eyes start to become glassy, “It’s not stupid to be upset.”
She laughs a little, “How did you know that’s what I was thinking?”
“Because I know you. And I’ve never seen you like this before.”
“I appreciate you checking in, Ang,” Amanda sighs, “But I really shouldn’t be getting into it at work.”
“I know we’re coworkers, but we’re friends too, right? It’s fine if you really don’t want to talk about it, but I’m here for you,” she grabs Amanda’s hands and gives them a gentle squeeze. That simple gesture was enough to break down the final brick of Amanda's wall, and suddenly, everything came spilling out.
Two nights ago, she had gotten a call from Ian telling her that she didn’t need to come in for work the next morning, which Angela already knew, seeing as she was the one filling in for Amanda yesterday.
What Angela didn’t know, however, was how Amanda’s jaw tightened when she saw the close friends stories of her coworkers, her friends, having fun while she wasn't there. How she had to stop herself from spiraling as she rewatched the videos over and over again. How disappointed she felt in herself for letting this affect her.
Angela lets go of her hands. Amanda’s heart drops for a moment, thinking that she’s overstepped boundaries and came off immature, until she feels Angela hug her.
“We missed you too, you know?” Angela leans away slightly to look up at Amanda, arms remaining around her waist.
"I hate that I'm feeling this way. It feels so high school of me to be sad about my friends hanging out without me. And it's not even like you all planned to see each other! This is our job and," Amanda bites her lip, hesitant to admit, "I guess the kid in me remembers what it was like to get excluded from things. For the longest time, I was convinced it was a me problem. Maybe I never got over that."
"I get it, but you're right. It's a job where none of us have control over who's scheduled on any given day. It's not just a regular hang out between friends. Because if it was, I want you to believe me when I say we'd want you around every single time."
This time, Amanda is the one that pulls Angela into an embrace, "What would I do without you, Angela?"
"Probably cry alone in the gender-neutral bathroom." Angela laughs.
Amanda has to admit, Smosh is a pretty sweet gig. After all, it brought Angela into her life.

Networking In Hell
Tumblr media
Vees and A Celeb Reader✨
Change is uncomfortable and hard, maybe that's why people gravitate to what they know, what's familiar. Maybe that's how you found yourself standing in front of a huge building with a neon sign with three Vs on it. It reminded you of the HQ of your recording label, the thought makes you chuckle slightly.
You had concluded the person you were looking for was named Velvet, she seemed to be some social media/ PR bigshot, like the biggest of bigshots.
You had nothing but hopes and dreams to go off on, for what reason would she give you a meeting? You were betting that for some reason (not to sound conceited or entitled) she would know about you since apparently, everyone knew about you and your spouse's demise. Taking a deep breath and walking through the fancy glass doors you're greeted with another aquatic demon at the front desk.
"Hi, I- I'm trying to get a meeting with Miss Velvet. Um I don't have an appointment or anything but um well I just got here and-"
The demon looks you up and down for a second and then their eyes go wide. "You're the siren! the one all over sinstagram! The one who killed their husband! I- Miss Velvets' schedule is very busy but I- You can- I can try and get you a meeting" You're very taken aback again, you thought that hell would be nothing like up above, and maybe for once you wouldn't be recognized everywhere you went, but as you finding out not much is different from up above.
"Miss Velvet's main office Is on the fourth floor if you want to wait up there I'll find- someone to talk to you, Siren!" The demon clambors reaching for the phone. You nod heading towards the elevator. As the door closes you catch the phone conversation.
"No it's them definitely, the Siren from the news, I mean they don't seem that dangerous, no I mean- I KNOW they're going up now-"
When the elevator opens you take a second to get your bearings, the building is big and you weren't given specific directions.
Luckily or unluckily shouts can be heard from down the hall.
"Well, he's up there waiting for a flat-faced prince to calm him down' a woman's voice angrily shouts.
You walk closer and see a tall man silhouette standing by a door at the end of the hall.
"and what's got him in a sorts this time" a man's voice sighs annoyed.
You walk closer almost directly behind the man in the doorway who you now see has a TV for a head, the more the day goes on the more unfazed you are by people's appearances.
"I don't know but he tore up my best model and you know the show can't wait for that-" she cuts herself off looking past the man spotting you in the door. " I don't have time for your crap intern unless you're here to fix my show for me figure out the issue yourself!" she yells.
"No, actually I'm not an intern I-" you stumble but she cuts you off even more angrily. both of them are now staring you down.
"Well then I double don't care who you are get out of my studio! What are you one of Val's bitches? I really have had enough of-" she cuts herself off again, looking you up and down more carefully.
"You're that Siren bitch. From Sinstagram the popstar who drowned their husband" she pauses looking at your phone and back up at you. You assume she pulled up some news from earlier today when you died.
"That's who you were talking about this morning? Hell gave you one ironic form, didn't it. I mean a hot one but ironic nonetheless. You did say drowning right?" the man mumbles to himself looking you up and down. Velvet ignores him.
"Well I take everything back maybe you are fixing my show... Have you ever walked a runway?"
You're In.

Not on my knees quite yet, but I was a fool back then (ellie williams x reader)
Tumblr media
ellie williams x fem!reader
summary: ellie would've saved a lot of time if she stopped avoiding uncomfortable conversations
warnings: angst!, swearing, slight nsfw (kissing), ellie's being a d!ck from time to time
words count: 9.1k
a/n: the last piece i published made cry while writing so naturally (and gladly!) this one made me smile — and laugh. i'm sucker for this sort of trope and i figured i owe you something a lil happier after my previous work. i hope you didn't forget about me.
also! this si an angst and comedic gold at the same time. lol enjoy!
"did I let you down before i can make my peace? so if you're listening now, could you hear me out at least?"
The sun was already down, leaving the moon take its rightful spot. Your boyfriend’s touch was lingering your shoulder as you stood in his living room, mind drifting away from the conversation you were a part of just a second ago. With a polite smile on your face until you caught a sight of her. There, on the other side of the room, leaning against the wall with a cup of beer in her hand, looking right at you. More than anything, you wanted to press your lips against hers. To stop the world around from spinning. To satisfy that little desire of yours.
Yet you couldn’t.
Because that’s not what friends do. And that is what you and Ellie mutually agreed to be. Without realising how much of impossible quest you had given to each other.
It wasn’t always like that. Not so long ago, staring into her eyes without falling even harder wouldn’t seen so impossible. But not so long ago, the two of you were just friends. Two people who might have been impeccably good at hiding their likings. Two people who used to spend every minute of their days with each other. But those two people truly sucked at having uncomfortable conversations.
And somehow ended up here.
“Is everything okay?” your boyfriend’s voice pulled you back to reality, finally breaking off the eye contact with Ellie.
Your eyes locked, seeing a hint of concern glancing in his. Smile crept up on your lips, sending a nonverbal answers for his worried mind.
“Do you want a beer?” he asked, offering his cup.
“No, it’s alright. I'm going to get some water,” you shook your head.
“Y/N?”
Before you made a single move, his hand swiftly reached out for yours, stopping you. There it was again, the concern.
“I’m fine,” you smiled, dedicating him the most believable form of fake smile you had in store.
And once you managed to get out of his sight, you let a frustrated sigh out of your mouth. Closing the kitchen door, you got yourself a few minutes of peace. Few minutes to sort out your shit and pull yourself together. Before he will grow more suspicious, if that was even possible.
You were here with your boyfriend. Yet you couldn’t stop thinking about her. And those words she shared with you on patrol.
The two of you hitting the road wasn’t something unusual. Quite the contrary. You and Ellie took almost all of the patrols together, feeling the most safest around the other. From time to time, you ended up taking a route with someone else due to Maria’s schedule system. And although the townsmen of Jackson knew their way around guns, you never felt as comfortable as when you went out with her. You knew each other’s tactics to very last detail. You worked so well together.
Every other day, just not today.
Due to awkwardness that’s been floating over your friendship like a dark cloud, you ended having multiple close calls. Usual encounters with runners and clickers that you would handle without a single worry seemed almost lethal this time. The miscommunication and unfinished business you’ve been avoiding for weeks took its toll on you. And had you walking home without a single bullet left in your pocket.
“I had it under control,” Ellie muttered, anger covered in her words.
“You didn’t have it under control,” you retorted, visibly not in the mood to be having a conversation with her.
It was supposed be a usual route to check out the stores in a town nearby. One of the shops, a book store, ended up being full of infected. Something that became absolutely normal for you to come across. The two of you wanted to clear the space stealthy, just with different tactics. Both of you went separate directions, unintentionally drawing the attention of runners with your chaotic way of communication. A second later you were quite literally fighting for your own lives with shouted insults filling the air.
Ellie wanted to run out through a little office space at the back of the store which led to emergency exit while you wanted to go back and took the main entrance since there was too many of runners for you to handle without any casualties. Ellie, as stubborn as she usually was, disagreed with you. More specifically, she didn’t even let you express your disapproval. She simply headed back there, with your yelling echoing the room. You managed to shoot down two more runners when you heard Ellie’s sudden cry for help.
Needless to say, the worst appeared in your mind. You didn’t know which one of those catastrophic scenarios would be worse. Ellie being dead or bitten with the necessity of you to shoot her to prevent her from suffering? Thankfully, none of those turned out to be reality as you succeeded to save Ellie in the last second.
Lying on the floor with clicker on top of her, Ellie was trying to reach for her gun tossed in corner of the office room. Not waisting any time, two of your bullets went through that clicker’s head, drops of blood splatted on Ellie’s freckled cheeks. You didn’t even have time to give her proper shit about it. Instead of that, you grabbed the gun, pulled her up and grabbed her hand, getting both of you out of that bookstore.
As if that wasn’t enough. Once you were back on the street, barricading the main entrance with literally everything suitable, you needed to patch ourselves up. You headed to pharmacy two stores away, hoping to find something usable. You were on foot today and Jackson was more than an hour of walk away. You opened the door, letting the guard down for a second and stepped on the glass shattered on the floor. Ellie’s scream pulled you back to reality, as well as her hand, literally pushing you out of the store. Falling on the cold pavement, you looked at Ellie firing her last shots.
“Motherfucker,” she mumbled, putting her gun back into her thigh holster.
You spotted the clicker bleeding out on the floor. Worse than that was just that banging coming from the bookstore, letting you both be aware of the fact that the barricade won’t hold for too long.
“Fuck,” Ellie hissed as she turned to you. “Let’s go,” she walked past you. “Or do you wanna sit around and wait for a bite?”
She was unbearable.
As a matter of fact, that’s how you ended up fighting. Halfway to Jackson, because of her snarky attitude and your habit of not letting shit go.
“I had it under control,” she stopped, looking right at you, fists clenched as she tried to surpass her anger.
“No you didn’t,” you repeated your previous words — this time with much more resistance. “Because if you had it under control, I wouldn't have to jump over there and save your fucking ass!”
“Like you’re the one to talk,” she laughed sarcastically. “Why the fuck did you go to that pharmacy in the first place? Previous close call wasn’t enough? Are you feeling suicidal today? Otherwise I can’t explain that fucking reckless decision of yours!”
“I wanted to find us some bandages!” you explained, pointing you to multiple scratches on Ellie’s hands.
“How generous of you,” she spoke ironically. “You’re such an idiot, truly.”
“Am I what?” you whispered.
“An idiot,” she repeated her words and took a step closer. “An actual idiot.”
You couldn’t help but laugh over her affectedness. “Well, I’m sorry that I tried to help you!”
“I didn’t ask for it!”
“You’re such a pain in the ass today, seriously. We should’ve taken the main entrance as I told you—“
“Are you seriously going to turn this into a lecture?” she wasn’t even trying to hide her sarcasm. “Do you really feel like you’re in the position to be giving me shit about my bad decisions? You?”
“What is that supposed to mean?!” you snapped, hands crossed over your chest.
Ellie stopped for a second and took a deep breath, probably rethinking her whole dedication to have this conversation right now.
“Nothing, let it go.”
She responded quietly, breaking off the eye contact and getting back on the road. She didn’t bother to wait for you. In fact, you stood there for another five minutes, watching her silhouette disappear out of your sight. She arrived at the east gate without you, completely ignoring Jesse’s concerned voice asking her about your whereabouts. You arrived twenty minutes after her, not as furious as when she left you there. Mostly just confused by her words. Not in the mood to have a conversation with Jesse, who was visibly puzzled over your and Ellie’s strange behaviour.
After that uncomfortable patrol, you headed home. Lately, it has been more than odd between the two of you. Even though you’ve made an agreement to be just friends, it didn’t seem like any side would be particularly pleased with that choice. In fact, it only made you more distant. This was just the final nail in the coffin for your friendship.
You were so mad at her. Mad because no matter what shit she caused, it wouldn’t change the way you felt about her. She could’ve behaved like an absolute asshole, yet would still think of her. You would still give her a chance. Your feelings for Ellie weren’t leaving anytime soon. Which, in the end, made you feel horribly. Considering the fact that your affection towards your boyfriend was nowhere near the one towards Ellie.
You already felt like the worst person after what you and Ellie did — what ultimately led to this mess.
Obie was your rebound. Your distraction. Someone who appeared in your life, willing to give you that kind of love you desired to receive from her. And for a moment, you wanted to make this work — while Ellie was dating Cat. During that period of time, the two of you almost never hung out, rather avoided each other.
You’ve been thinking about it for weeks — about that night. About doing the right thing — accepting the consequences. You just didn’t have the guts to do it. You planned it for some time, yet failed every attempt to do so. But Obie wasn’t an idiot and soon enough picked up on your weird behaviour. That’s why he asked you to come tonight. To have fun with him and his friends.
Which didn’t include Ellie. But she somehow managed to show up here and made you feel even worse. Again.
You were aware of that poor choice of timing. Yet you couldn’t wait any longer. Appearing back in the living room, you grabbed Obie’s hand, quietly urging him to stop the conversation and head out with you. Taking a quick look around the room, your eyes met with hers. Noticing your intertwined fingers, she drew up, watching you both carefully as you fled the scene.
Sitting on the stairs on Obie's back porch, second thoughts crept in. As bad as it might sound, Obie represented an insurance. Insurance for you that even if you can’t be with Ellie, you have someone who’s willing to give you the kind of love you demanded. And in some ways, he was your friend. Your occasional patrol partner. And you didn’t to prolong this. More than you already did.
As soon as you let a frustrated sigh out of your mouth, Obie already knew where this was headed.
“I’m sorry,” you mumbled, feeling too cowardly to look into his eyes. “I really am. I’m aware of the fact that you most likely won’t believe me, though you have every single right for it, but I never meant to hurt you. That wasn’t my intention.”
“What was it then?” he looked up at you, confused.
“You liked me,” you whispered. “And I thought that by giving it a chance, I could eventually like you the same way. But I don’t. And you deserve someone who will.”
“I hope you’re not planning on giving me that heartfelt speech of how much I deserve to be loved,” he mumbled sarcastically. “You should’ve ended this right away.”
“I know,” you nodded with your tail between your legs. “And I’m sorry.”
“Well, I guess she’s the winner, after all,” he muttered, getting your attention.
A confusion was drawn over your face. “What are you talking about?”
“Ellie?” he laughed. “Don’t tell me you’re so blinded by your own affection that you didn’t notice how much she’s pining for you.”
“She’s not—“ you stopped. “Ellie’s not interested in me. Not like that.”
“The least you could do right now, is stop lying to me.”
“I’m not lying to you,” opposed.
“You’re just embarrassing yourself,” he laughed to himself. “Why do you think I brought you here tonight? To prove my point. And I succeeded the second I saw how you were looking at each other. Or did you really think you’re so inconspicuous? Don’t even try to tell me that nothing happened between the two of you. Even if you do, it doesn’t matter anymore. 'Cause I am done with this. With you.”
“Obie—“
Before you attempted to finish your sentence, the door swung open, letting someone else to join your conversation.
“There you are!” Jesse exclaimed happily. “We’re gonna play some games, are you guys joining us?” he asked curiously, overlooking the tension between you and Obie.
Obie didn’t wait a single second. He stood up and left to room in a matter of seconds while you sat there, replaying your previous choice in your mind.
“Are you going or not?” Jesse’s voice pulled you back to reality.
You nodded quietly and followed him.
“Did I interrupted something?” Jesse asked while the two of you walked through the hallway to Obie’s living room. “You guys seemed to be in the middle of—“
“Jesse, can I ask you something?” you blurred out, stopping in the middle of a hallway.
Curiousness in his eyes served as a nonverbal kind of answer you were looking for.
“You, Dina and Ellie went out last night, right?” you asked.
During your morning patrol with Dina, she casually brought up their plan for the evening. She mentioned her, Jesse and Ellie were heading out for a few. She tried to persuade you to join them but staying home felt like a more suitable option for you. You’ve already declined Obie’s offer to go out that morning, when he walked you to stables.
Jesse nodded.
“Obie mentioned he was going out with other guys from patrol team. This might sound strange but… do know if Ellie and Obie ran into each other? More specifically — if something happened between them?”
“Hell yeah, I was actually starting to get a little worried, for Obie, of course. He made a few comments and you know Ellie. She wouldn’t just let it go and leave. They had an argument and it escalated into Maria and Tommy pulling them apart before Ellie managed to break his nose, in the better case,” he clarified. “Weren’t you patrolling with her this morning? I’m surprised she didn’t tell you. Considering how much she hates his guts.”
Somehow, Ellie’s behaviour made much more sense now.
“What did he say to her?” you mumbled impatiently, craving for answers.
Jesse sighed, visibly not feeling comfortable in this conversation. “Listen, it’s none of my business. You gotta ask one of them.”
“C’mon man!” you whined. “You can’t just leave me hanging!”
“I didn’t hear much of their altercation. But from the parts that I caught, I reckon it was about you. It got pretty ugly for a second, before Maria interfered.”
You were given what you had asked for, unsure whether this was the sort of answer you wanted.
A few seconds later, you and Jesse joined others in the living room. Not many people left, mostly just guys from your age group at patrols. Majority of them, including Obie, were sitting on the sofa, except for Dina and Jesse who were snuggling on one of the chairs. And Ellie, who’s presence was somehow different this time — more pleasant. After what you learned from Jesse about the incident, you felt a bit guilty for snapping at her this morning.
Although the reasons for your actions were justified. It was the anger and frustration bubbling inside you for the past few weeks that got triggered by Ellie’s stubborn persona and her need to have the last word. You had every single right to be furious with her, but right now — you couldn’t bring yourself to it.
So when your eyes were struggling to find hers, minute after you appeared inside, your heart sunk deep into your stomach. You wondered if seeing you and Obie disappear was the straw for her. If this was all she needed to be done with you. Maybe she left, choosing the comfort of her little shed in Joel’s backyard. A part of you wanted to run after her. To get the answers, to stop this madness.
Until you found her. Coming from the kitchen, she immediately saw you. A momentary smile was brought to your lips over that sudden sight of her. A momentary smile that she managed to spot and frown, confused.
Redness in your cheeks forced you to look away and sit down on the carpet, trying hard to avoid locking eyes with her. Unfortunately for you, her steps led to the same place you took. With all the space left to choose, she still sat down right next to you, her thigh casually brushing against yours, sending shivers down your spine. You didn’t dare to look at her, though you knew her eyes were all over you.
When you finally took the courage to do so, your eyes met with Obie’s. The kindness was gone for good once you spotted the viciousness aimed at you while his eyes danced from yours to Ellie’s.
Then Dina offered to play spin the bottle. The four of you had your own version, mostly just forcing the chosen one to do the stupidest shits for fun. The fact that this wasn’t the silly version you created in Ellie’s house became obvious the second Obie made his turn. This version, completely followed by his rules somehow turned to be his own form of vendetta.
Especially once the bottle pointed at Ellie.
“Fuck me,” she cursed under her breath.
Point of the original game was simple. The one spinning the bottle chooses the task for the selected one. Nothing's off limits and in case the player decides to refuse to finish demanded task, they have to handle a piece of clothing as a form of penalty.
“I’m all in for happy endings,” that smile pictured over his face reminded you of Cheshire Cat.
Ellie sighed with annoyance, definitely not having the time of her life.
“So how about you give that best friend of yours a little kiss? Or a big one. That’s totally up to you,” he grinned, sipping from his cup of beer. Visibly proud of what he was trying to achieve. “I’ll watch it anyway.”
For a second, you thought you might deserved to get this treatment from him. He was hurt by your actions. But not in any case, he had a single right to take out his anger on Ellie.
You stole a glance at her and noticed she was taking off one of her Converse sneaker. Without a single word, she tossed it right at him.
Cold sweat covered your body, realising what she just did.
Obie caught her shoe, slimy grimace on his face.
“And to think you wanted to break my nose for this,” he laughed, shaking his head. “Guess it wasn’t worth it after all. If this is what you want, then I'm happy for that sudden change of heart. But spare a thought for your best friend, she probably just got her heart broken.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Ellie’s eyes met with yours, noticing the slight disappointment you tried so hard to cover up. You looked away, taking a deep breath. You didn’t want to make this any more embarrassing — knowing that’s exactly what Obie was hoping to achieve. Getting up and storming out the house wouldn’t be the smartest choice considering your current reputation so you stayed. Trying so hard to avoid Dina and Jesse’s confused looks pointed at you and Ellie.
As the rounds went on, so did the tasks. Dina and Jesse had to make-out which seemed rather ridiculous to you, considering they were doing this 24/7, mostly to annoyance of others. You sat on the floor uncomfortably, watching the two of them almost eat each other’s faces. For a second, you caught a sight of Ellie who shared mutual feelings till the moment she spotted you. Disgust was replaced with concern before you turned away.
For some reason, the bottle never pointed at you, much to Obie’s obvious disgruntlement. Must have been a blessing in disguise that saved you from one of his vicious tasks. Ellie, on the other hand, wasn’t as lucky as you. And whenever the bottle stopped at her, Obie happened to be the one choosing the tasks. The second time she was dared, he ordered her to answers how many of her girl-friends she had kissed to which she replied by taking off her other shoe.
By the time the clock turned twelve, Ellie ended up totally barefoot, losing even her socks. You couldn’t help but wonder why did she choose to stay? Knowing how much she despised him, you thought she’d leave after that first task he came up with. But she stayed, losing pieces of her clothing as she refused to give him what he wanted.
It couldn't even be more embarrassing for you. Another two tasks ended up being somehow connected to your and Ellie’s relationship. You hated yourself for how much you told him about the two of you as it has become the perfect weapon for him to use. Making this whole night an unbearable experience for the both of you, but mostly Ellie. Who got the worst of it.
Eventually, he ran out of ideas. So when Jesse proposed to play seven minutes in heaven — right after Ellie got most of her belongings back, he couldn’t be more pleased with that offer. Obie as per usual, had to have his own rules. He declared to be the one choosing the couples to go into his pantry. Knowing how much he was enjoying the situation, you expected the worst outcome.
You sighed, looked right at him, sitting in the middle of the sofa, looking around to find his next target. The second his eyes landed on you, there wasn’t any pleasing result coming out of this.
“How about you, Y/N?” he asked, fake sympathy in his voice. “I feel like you’ve been pretty neglected tonight,” he mentioned, eyes pointing at Ellie.
You knew she was looking at you, but didn’t dare to assure yourself of that assumption.
“How about we spin the bottle to find your—“ he didn’t even finish his sentence.
Especially the second Ellie grabbed your hand and pull you up with her, forcing you to almost trip over your own feet.
“No need for that,” she mumbled, not even bothering to look at him.
Instead of that, she dragged out through to hallway, right into his kitchen. Letting the anger bubble up.
“Could you slow down?” you uttered, trying to stop Ellie.
Though she heard you, she didn’t bother to obey. Once she reached the pantry, she opened the door and pushed you in, her hand still holding yours.
“You do realise you could’ve just closed the kitchen door? We didn’t have to be stuck in here,” you whispered. “It’s not like he is going to get his ass out there to check it out.”
There wasn’t even the slightest concern towards your words. Instead of that she dropped your hand, taking a step closer to you, not leaving you any room for potential disagreement. Instead of that, she filled every inch of your comfort zone with her presence, grabbed your cheeks and pressed her lips against yours.
Without a single warning.
It lasted a second. A second that still managed to make it feel like a lifetime. A second that brought up all those memories from that night. That night that caused the two of you to grow apart.
It was shortly after Ellie called it quits with Cat. That evening you were at Joel’s house. You and Jesse offered to help move around some furniture in his living room and ended up having a dinner with him, Tommy and Maria. And, surprisingly, Ellie showed up. Overwhelmed with everything that happened over the past few days, she decided to accept Joel’s offer to join. She initially went there for new patrol schedule Maria left at his place. But once she saw you there, she couldn’t leave.
It was for the first time in weeks that the two of you got to talk. Both of you knew you needed to sort things out, once and for all. And Joel’s dinner turned out to be the best opportunity for it. You spent the whole dinner chatting and enjoying each other’s presence the way you used to. After that, Ellie spontaneously offered you to spend a night at her place, reviving one your oldest traditions.
“I didn’t bring my stuff with me,” you laughed while you were standing on Joel’s back porch.
“That didn’t stop you before,” she grinned. “I can lend you my space t-shirt.”
Your eyes lightened. Ellie’s space t-shirt was a piece of clothing that you absolutely adored. Blue shirt with solar system that Ellie found in one of the stores nearby during one of your patrols. Both of you had your eyes on it and she offered to sort the true winner with a game. So you rock-paper-scissored it and Ellie won. Though you were still convinced she was cheating which was why she never lent it to you.
“You mean the one I rightfully deserve?”
“Since when?” she mumbled sarcastically. “Are you gonna mention that—“
“That you cheated? Yes, I will,” you laughed. “Ellie you had paper and changed it to scissors in the last minute—“
“If I lend you that t-shirt, will you finally shut up about it?” she stopped you by stepping closer, smile dancing on her lips.
An hour later you were sitting on Ellie’s bed. You decided to watch one of her all time favourite movies but just after twenty minutes in, Ellie confessed she broke things off with Cat. Out of nowhere, she spilled it, forcing you to stop the movie and take a proper look at her. She explained you how this was the right call and she’s okay — because that’s what you wanted to know in the first place. If she was alright.
The two of you weren’t the most affectionate kind of friends but you couldn’t help this time. You moved closer, crossing to her part of the bed and leaned closer. Whispering a quiet sorry you pulled Ellie into a hug, knowing damn well you should’ve kept your distance considering your own unresolved feelings towards that auburn haired girl.
This was an exception you had to make. Her hands immediately wrapped around your waist, pulling you even closer, your bodies brushing against each other. You were lying there in the darkness on Ellie’s side of the bed while her hands stayed pressed on your body parts. You felt her lingering touch on your hip and realised, now more than ever, how much you like being closer to her, physically. She was right behind you with her face snuggled into your neck and breath dancing on your skin, sending shivers down your spine.
You knew this wasn’t what friends were supposed to do. Yet there wasn’t a single bone in your body that would pull away from this. You slowly closed your eyes, trying to keep this memory of the two of you in your mind.
When Ellie broke off the silence.
“I saw you around town with Obie,” she whispered. “Jesse said that you guys are dating.”
The last thing you wanted to talk about was Obie. Obie who served as your form of escape from your feelings towards Ellie.
“We went out a few times, it’s fresh,” you mumbled, noticing the grip around your waist has loosened.
Cold sweat covered your body. You didn’t want to lose her, in any way. Physically or mentally.
“I don’t know if we’re dating. Nor if I want to,” you whispered.
“Why’d say that?” Ellie wondered.
“Let’s just say the first kiss wasn’t something I’d want to repeat,” you uttered, hearing Ellie’s muffled laugh.
You turned around, curious to see her reaction. A grin pictured on her face was enough for you to roll your eyes.
“I knew he was a bad kisser,” she grinned.
You laughed sarcastically. “How the hell would you know that?”
“Because he’s a guy,” she shrugged her shoulders. “Guys are not good at kissing. At least not as good as me.”
“Alright, Ms. Pretentious,” you shook your head, still laughing. “I think Dina would disagree with that statement.”
“That’s because she never kissed me,” Ellie winked at you.
A second later, the two of you burst into laughter.
“Poor Dina then,” you mumbled, wiping away your tears dramatically. “Poor me. If only I had kissed you before I had that horrendous first kiss—“
“Wait,” she stopped you. “It was your first kiss?” that pure shock in her voice confused you.
“Yeah, I just told you that my first kissed sucked,” you laughed.
“But I thought you meant first kiss with him,” she shook her head. “Not that it was your first first kiss.”
Silence settled across the room once again.
“Man, that really ruined the whole mood,” she mumbled.
Unbelievable gasp left your mouth. You reached for the pillow underneath you, hitting Ellie in the face.
“Hey!” she grabbed the pillow, laughing. “It’s not my fault you have poor taste in men.”
“Fuck you,” you frowned, turning your back at her.
Ellie’s hand touched your shoulder as she tried to turn you around.
“C’mon, Y/N,” she chuckled. “It was a joke.”
“If I have a poor taste in men, then you surely have a poor sense of humour.”
She giggled, enjoying the situation. She gave it a few tries to force you to look at her but ended up lying down next to you, defeated.
“Let me make it up to you,” she whispered, catching your attention.
It was the curiousness that led you to turn to her face, just a few inches away from yours. The closeness between your faces was driving you crazy. Adrenalin was running through your veins the second her hot breath brushed against your lips. You tried more than ever to keep your shit together while looking into her eyes.
“How?” you dared to ask.
“By giving you the kind of first kiss you deserve.”
You heart skipped a beat.
Now more than ever, you had to hold it together.
“I already had that one,” you whispered.
“Yeah well, how about I give you mine as well,” she moved closer, devilish grin settling on her face. “Then, you can decide which one was better.”
You’d be foolish to have any sort of objections. Considering the fact how much you wished for her to be your first kiss. How much you wished for her to look at you the way she used to look at Cat. How much you wanted Ellie to love you. The way you loved her.
That tension was undeniable. Ellie slowly leaned closer to your face, the tips of your noses almost touching. She was observing every single detail of your appearance, not rushing anywhere. Even the smallest birthmark seemed interesting enough for her at this moment. You’ve never felt so vulnerable. So loved as you did the moment her lips met with yours, causing an immeasurable amount of arousal explode in your body.
Understanding the fact that it was your first, proper kiss, she tried her best to make you feel as comfortable as possible. You always knew she was much more experienced than you which, in the end, made you feel better. Feeling that gentle touch of hers, feel her lips moving against yours. Whatever your idea was it wasn’t half as good as the reality. Reality that dawned on you the moment she pulled away.
Still staying closer, she licked her bottom lip, letting that devilish grin back.
“So?” she asked, already sensing what answer she’s getting. “Which one of your first kisses turned out to be better?”
And you wanted to get back at her so badly.
“Tough call,” you confessed.
Your words brought sudden confusion to her eyes.
Didn’t take her long to realise what you were up to.
“Tough call, you say?” she repeated your words, starting to close the distance, again. “Think I need another try to show you who’s the obvious winner.”
“I think you do.”
This time, she wasn’t holding back. Within seconds, she was sweeping her tongue between your lips, forcing a quiet moan to leave your mouth. She smiled to herself, grabbing both of your cheeks to pull you closer and deepen the kiss. You couldn’t describe any of those feelings running through your veins. A wave of arousal exploded in your body every time her tongue brushed against yours. More than anything, you were craving Ellie. Craving her touch, craving her kisses.
One kiss turned into another and before you knew it, you were sitting right on top of her, passionately kissing her while her hands were discovering the unknown places of your skin. That night you lost almost all your boundaries. Nothing would’ve stopped you from reciprocating every single kiss of hers. Shortly before sunrise, you fell asleep with Ellie tight grip around your waist and her lips tracking every inch of your neck.
Hoping this feeling of euphoria would last forever.
That, of course, required Ellie not to disappear in the morning. When you woke up, shortly after eleven, Ellie’s side of the bed was empty. Not leaving a single note behind, she took off. As the yesterday's remorse was slowly taking its rightful spot, you grabbed your belongings and left her house. You were supposed to see Obie that night as the two of you planned to have another date yet it seemed as Ellie’s presence wasn’t leaving your mind anytime soon.
As well as the unknown reason as for why she ghosted you. Though, you can’t say that your actions would be telling a different story. Not knowing how to face what you did, you accepted the same kind of tactic — pretending as if it never happened. Which, turned to an absolute nightmare. You knew doing what you did that night would’ve hurt you. But you didn’t expect that amount of madness to take over your mind.
Every time you were patrolling together in deadly silence, you thought of that night. You thought of her lips finding their way to yours. You thought of her lingering touch sending shivers down your spine. You were screwed, more than ever.
Especially once she stated that it was just a friendly thing. It was your first actual conversation since that night when Ellie proposed the two of you should not make a big deal out of it. A sentence that swiftly managed to break your heart and drive you right into Obie’s arms. Her words crushed you but more than that you wondered if that’s all you ever were for her. Just a friend.
Now she was standing right in front of you, pulling her lips away from yours.
And all of those feelings inside you were ready to explode.
“What the fuck was that?!”
You didn’t even bother to keep your voice down. You pushed her away, anger rising within you.
“What do you mean?” she whispered, properly taken aback by your reaction.
“What do you mean?” you repeated after her. “What do you think, Ellie?”
“Alright, now I’m confused,” she admitted. “I thought that you—“
“You thought what? That you had a right to do this?” you shook your head.
“Well, considering the look your were giving me while your fucking boyfriend was sitting a feet away—“
“Excuse me?!” you were losing all your temper. “What the fuck is wrong with you, Ellie?”
“What the fuck is wrong with me?” she couldn’t help but laugh.
“You didn’t have one nice word for me this morning on patrol and suddenly you feel an urge to kiss me?”
You couldn’t believe how lightly she was taking this whole situation.
“Thought I could win back my socks.”
That was all you needed to reach for the doorknob.
“I’m done—“
“No, no, no! Y/N, wait!” Ellie jumped right in front of you, forbidding you from leaving.
You didn’t want to look into her eyes but just like any other case — no matter how much you tried, you couldn’t resist.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered — honesty in her voice.
There it was, the guilt in her eyes.
“I’m sorry. Fuck, it was a joke,” she mumbled, all nervous. “Please, stay.”
And you realised, this might be the only opportunity for you, to sort things out.
So you took a step back and leaned against one of the cupboards. Giving it all one last shot.
Ellie eased up a bit, most likely rethinking all of her previous statements. For a second, it was quiet. With her, immersed in her thoughts and you — trying to find the right approach to this.
“Is it all a joke to you?” you whispered, wondering out loud.
Your words forced her to look into your eyes, facing her crimes.
“This, me and you, us. The kiss.”
Her eyes lightened up like the stars.
“Was it all a joke to you, Ellie?”
And then faded away.
“I don’t know whether you care or not but it was never a joke to me—“
“Then why were you with Obie?” she interrupted you. “If it wasn’t a joke, why did you went out with him that night? The night after I kissed you?”
There was pain her voice, though she took a mighty effort to cover that. She did it most of the time. Ellie always struggled with her vulnerability — mostly not knowing how to handle it properly. But you could always see right through her and she knew it.
“Why are you with him now, Y/N? When he’s acting like an absolute piece of shit—“
“Like you should be the one talking,” you mumbled sarcastically.
Hitting the right spot.
Ellie’s eyes widened over that sentence, not even trying to hide her pain this time.
Which you realised, just two seconds later and let out a frustrated sigh.
“I’m sorry,” you said softly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. It’s my fault he’s taking out all his anger on you.”
“I doubt that,” Ellie chucked quietly. “He was never a big fan of mine, if you haven’t noticed.”
You caught the weird vibe from them but paid no mind. Looking back, maybe you should have.
“I heard you two had a falling out last night,” you admitted, drawing even more of Ellie’s attention. “He didn’t told me. Jesse did.”
You answered the implied question.
“And did he tell you what was the reason?” Ellie asked carefully.
There wasn’t need to bring up what you knew from Jesse. You wanted to know the truth, directly from her — that’s why you shook your head, giving her an opportunity to speak up.
“I never really cared for him, until the two of you started dating,” she avowed. “I picked up on his hostility towards me pretty soon but until yesterday, I didn’t realised how much he despised me. I didn’t even want to go out, but Dina insisted. I wanted to leave as soon as I saw him. He had a lot to say. Mostly giving me shit for making you feel so miserable. He made it very clear you’re not available.”
“For who?”
“For me,” she said softly. “He told me to stay the fuck away from you, to which I asked him if he finally managed to improve his kissing skills.”
Maybe it was the result of everything that happened today or a pure madness that forced you to absolutely lose it over that statement. Either way, it took one look into each other’s eyes for both of you to burst out in laughter.
For a split of second, all the tension was gone. Once it again, it felt so easy. So simple. Like those endless nights in her little shed.
“You’re such an idiot,” you mumbled between laughs.
She felt relief, seeing a smile appear on your face — even more, knowing she was the reason.
“He’s an idiot,” she replied with a grin on her lips. “After that, the only thing he could do was call me a slur and I sorta lost it—“
“And nearly broke his nose?” you finished her sentence. “Heard that part.”
Ellie gave you a fleeting smile before she looked away, hypnotising her black sneakers.
“Well, me and that idiot broke up,” you confessed, seeing her eyes lighten up once again. “And the only reason I went out with him that night was because I thought you didn’t want me. Not the way I wanted you. I figured that was probably why you disappeared without a single world — wanting to avoid the awkward outcome.”
Now, she was the one in loss for words.
“I'm sorry about what he called you at Seth's,” you whispered. “And I’m sorry for what he did tonight.”
“He just saw the opportunity and he took it. It doesn’t matter,” Ellie shrugged her shoulders. “It’s not your fault, Y/N. It never was.”
“I know, but still—“
“Y/N, shut up, I’m serious,” she laughed. “Stop being such a people pleaser.”
You felt slightly offended over that statement and she noticed. Just two seconds later, as soon as she saw the look in your eyes.
“I didn’t—“ she whispered. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
You nodded quietly, still glancing at the tips of your sneakers.
“Fuck,” she cursed under her breath, rubbing her cheeks.
There it was again, the silence. And for a minute you thought that maybe this was to closure you were longing for. Just for a minute.
“Do you wanna get out of here?”
Before she spoke again.
“We probably already waisted our seven minutes, so…“
“No, dumbass, I meant—“
“Seriously?” you stopped her, fighting the urge to roll your eyes.
She clenched her fits, taking a deep breath.
“Y/N,” she whispered, “I meant get out of this house. I’ve had enough of stupid games and jealous boyfriends for one evening. Let me take you the hell out of this place. And fix this night while I still can.”
She was a feet away from you, but you could still see that glimpse of desire glancing in her green eyes. And no matter how much you tried, Ellie was too hard to resist. Especially in this moment.
A to be completely honest, you weren’t particularly keen on the idea of going back to the living room and face Obie and his bizarre vendetta tricks. A part of you already regretted going here in the first place — just a part, the rest was glad for that choice since it brought you and Ellie back together.
Ellie, whose hand was currently holding yours while she was trying to quietly sneak you out. She reached for her jacket on the hanger in the hall before she grabbed the doorknob and pulled you both out of that haunted house. Just as you crossed the doorstep, you thought of Jesse.
If it wasn’t for him and his impolite barging in, you and Ellie might never had this conversation. You could’ve gone home. Never knowing that you could’ve found an answer. And a solution. There was a guilt in you, for not saying goodbye to him — you felt like you owed him that.
But within seconds, you forgot about all of them. Because the only thing you could possibly think of was her. Ellie, whose hand was still holding yours as you were walking down the streets of Jackson town. You wondered if she did intentionally or simply paid no mind. You didn’t dare to ask or have any sort of objections — you were enjoying it more than you probably should.
There it was again, that feeling of simplicity. Hand in hand in the middle of the night, you thought of all those walks you and Ellie used to take. From time to time, when the two of you had a sleepover at her house and one of you couldn’t fall asleep, you’d took the flashlight and go out. Occasionally, you even traded the streets of Jackson for the world behind the gates.
Though, you were always very careful. You were aware of the growing tension between Ellie and Joel and knew that if one of Maria’s patrol men saw the two of you outside, they would certainly bother to share this information with him — causing Ellie even more trouble that she already had.
That’s why you mostly took midnight walks around her small neighbourhood. Sometimes even till the sunrise. Sometimes you spent hours talking, the other days you chose the enjoy each other’s presence in silence. And when Joel and Ellie stopped talking, you took these walks nearly every day.
You knew Ellie had nightmares. The bags under her eyes, the sadness in her face — you saw it every morning on patrol. And then she showed up at your house, at three fifteen in the morning, all sweaty and shaking. You walked around yours this time. You held her hand and kept talking. About everything that could keep her mind off that. That could keep those nightmares away.
You always took her back home. Tucked her in and sat at the edge of her bed till she fell asleep. Waited an hour to make sure those nightmares were not coming back. Only then you would go back to your place — after you knew that she was going to be alright. After you knew she was safe.
Ellie had a special place in your heart. And there was nothing in the world that could chance that.
No matter what happened between the two of you. She was sitting next to you right now, on the stairs of Joel’s back porch and you knew that if she got one of those nightmares again, you wouldn’t leave. You would stay there and hold her hand till she falls asleep.
“So this was your idea of fixing the night?” you asked, squeezing the beer bottle in your hand.
She brought you into her backyard, sneaked into Joel’s house and stole two beers from his fridge.
“How is this any different from sitting at Obie's porch?”
“That dick you dated is not here, that’a first bonus,” she grinned.
“And where’s the rest?”
Ellie couldn’t help but chuckle.
“You're really hard to please,” she laughed. “I wanted to spend time with you without risking any of those douchebags barging in.”
“You didn’t seem to care about that when you kissed me.”
That was a risky move.
Ellie put the beer bottle down, taking a deep breath.
“We don’t have to talk about that,” you whispered. “Again.”
Though you wanted it. You wanted it so badly. To get a clear answer from her, once and for all.
“I wanted to kiss you.”
There it was.
“In the living room, in front of him. After what he said, a part of me wanted to just shove it down his throat. Get that fucking grin off of his face.”
In all honesty, you struggled to pay attention to the rest of her speech after you heard the first sentence.
“But it wasn’t worth using you. I didn’t want you to think I kissed you, because I wanted to prove a point.”
You nearly got it.
“Then why did you want to kiss me?”
For a second, she looked into your eyes. “You know why.”
Nearly.
“No, Ellie. I don’t,” you whispered. “You might be surprised, but I have no idea why you do what you do. Because you never give me a clear answer—“
Not even bothering to let you finish your frustrated statement, she closed all the space left between the two of you and smacked her lips onto yours.
“If you’re gonna say that this is a clear answer, Ellie, I swear to God—“
“I wanted to do this the night I saw you in Joel’s dinning room. And morning after that, when I saw you sleeping on the other side of my bed. And then again, every single time I saw you walking around the town with him," she admitted. "It was driving me crazy, because I loved you, Y/N. I love you so much. And that’s the first and foremost reason as for what I did this. Today or any other day.”
Almost there.
“Then why did you leave?” you whispered the only thing on your mind. The one thing that’s been bothering you for weeks.
“Because I panicked,” she confessed. “I went out because I needed to clear my head — I didn’t know where we stand, where you and Obie stand. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if I should go back and if so — what to say. And when I saw you that night with him, I figured. Or at least I thought I did — until tonight.”
“You could’ve just ask me!—“
“And then what?” she interrupted you. “Was I supposed to beg you to break up with him? I felt like a selfish asshole just thinking about it.”
And then it all got to you. Weeks of avoidance, days of sleepless nights when the thought of her didn’t seem to leave your mind. The anger and frustration that you subconsciously tried to bottle up exploded.
Right into her face.
“You're such an idiot!” you bursted out. “Oh my god!”
It was safe to say that this wasn’t the kind of answer Ellie was hoping for after opening up to you. Hell, this was nowhere near what she was expecting. That sort of reaction caught her off guard — that was for sure. At least according to that confusion that appeared in her eyes, leaving her in an absolute loss for words for nearly twenty seconds.
“Excuse me?” she frowned.
“This was the moment you chose not to be selfish? You’re such a dick, Ellie!”
In your defence, you didn’t give yourself much time to rethink those words before they left your mouth — in fact, none. The ire got the best of you, it definitely wasn’t your finest moment. Though, no one would probably dare to blame you.
“You knew I was with him because—“
“Well, I know it now!” she mumbled sarcastically. “This is so fucking stupid.”
“Tell me about it.”
Every time you felt like you could finally reach the end, another obstacle emerged. The frustration felt never-ending. As if the two of you were walking in circles — again and again. Till one of you finally decides to make it stop.
“You wanna know where we stand? Well, so do I. And we’re never gonna get there if we’ll keep pointing fingers at each other,” you expressed.
“You’re the one calling me names.”
There it was again, the sarcasm. She was making difficult for you to stay patient.
“Ellie!—“
“Just wait here,” whispered and within seconds, got on her feet and headed towards her little house.
You obeyed, most due that confusion caused by her sudden resolute action. You stayed there, sitting on Joel’s cold stairs, replaying the events of tonight in your mind, till she hove into view again — this time with a piece of clothing in her hand.
That landed in your lap as soon as she sat down next you.
“Is that…” you stopped to take a better look at it.
Crumpled blue fabric that was slowly fading. Yet the solar system was still quite visible — enough for you be taken aback and pause for a second to process that. You needed a few seconds.
“The space t-shirt.”
You looked into her eyes, determined to find the answer.
“Why are you giving this to me?”
Why here? Why now?
There was way too many questions running through your head.
“I listened to you and I’m choosing a better moment for my unselfishness,” she replied softly. “I also might have considered that strange theory of yours…“
“Pardon me? It’s not a strange theory. I was the rightful winner from the beginning—“
“Yes you were,” Ellie admitted, nodding with a smile on her lips.
Which caught you by surprise. The look in her eyes, the spark shinning again.
“And I’m sorry it took me so long to realise that.”
Finally.
“It was yours from the beginning. And if I wasn’t so stubborn and overthinking everything, it could’ve been yours long time ago. I wanted nothing more than that.”
“I really hope we’re not talking about the t-shirt anymore.”
All the seriousness she was building up disappeared the second those words left your mouth.
“I was trying to be romantic!” Ellie mumbled between laughs. “You’re such an idiot, Y/N.”
“Romantic my ass! That’s the second time you called me an idiot today!”
“Because that’s who you are,” she whispered, devilish grin on her face.
You couldn’t help but to roll your eyes, annoyed.
“Seriously, this is the worst attempt—“
“But you’re my idiot,” she leaned to you, closing the space once again.
Again and again until her hands reached your cheeks as she pulled you closer, deepening the kiss.
“Unless you don’t want to be,” she whispered into your lips. “My idiot.”
“Ellie, it took you weeks to say this, are we sure I’m the idiot here?”
She saw the sneer on your face.
“Shut up,” she chuckled, pecking your lips. “I love you. Is that good enough for you?”
“We’ll see. Do you have any better, less degrading nicknames for me?” you mumbled sarcastically.
You felt her breath dancing on your cold cheeks as she slowly leaned in, ready to kiss you again. “Wanna find out?”
