for those of you too young to know? i can't even begin to explain to you the joy i felt on June 26, 2016, when gay marriage was ruled legal across the US by a narrowly conservative Supreme Court. I lived in Texas, a deeply red but also threatenenly blue state. My mom worked in a church. I was dating a woman at the time (unbeknownst to my parents), and still deeply in the closet. My mom mentioned that the church was in disarray, trying to figure out amongst themselves if the pastors had to bless gay marriages. did the ruling allow them to deny gay couples the use of their building for marriage purposes? what was the order of precedence when it came to a gay couples' right to wed vs. their religious right to not recognize it?

I was too overjoyed at just being LEGAL to tell my mom anything. I didn't come out to her. She still doesn't know I dated women.
