Remember when Marius and Santino are gathering up what they think are the remains of Armand:

We talk a good deal about Marius’s influence on Armand’s subsequent relationships (there’s a lot there to dissect, of course) + the obvious trauma of the kidnapping & torture/indoctrination into the cult.

Which leads me to my point—Armand would’ve been 18/19 in human years when this happened, and it’s entirely possible at least part of the way he learned how to “love” (what he was forced to accept or interpret as love) actually came from Santino, especially given the number of years they spent together vs. Armand’s three with Marius. Forgot to reference my TVA because I LEFT IT AT HOME WHILE I WENT ON VACATION LIKE AN IDIOT but he spends six months with Santino, not years. Still very very bad, still traumatic af, but it wasn’t as long as my brain wanted me to remember. Which is good.

something that’s always been funny to me is that long fics with smut tend to do better than long fics without but it’s like. if you write a longggg 10k+ word fic with a build up and plot and sprinkle in smut at the end, people will read that long build up and pay attention to the plot in order to get to the smut. and 99% of the time the tags and comments will talk about the plot itself and the way it was written as opposed to the sex and they will ask for more or for part 2’s and as annoying as the part 2 comments can be sometimes, it also means that they focused on the plot and not the smut. but if you post that fic without the smut—as in same fic and same build up and everything, but the smuts not there, a lot of those same people will simply not give the fic a chance. it’s just funny to me bc yes, a part of it is just horniness, but also i think it’s partly that there is also some conditioning to believe that a “perfect romance” or a “perfect story” of a romance is sealed with intimacy that’s more often than not sexual in order to actually be valid. and yeah. idk. it’s an interesting thing to see from a writers perspective

#me personally i write what i want im at a comfortable place in my writing that #i don’t rly feel i need to add that smut to get engagement #partially bc i think im blessed with readers who are very kind to me and always reiterate that they would read whatever i put out #i have so many anons that tell me they don’t know anything ab genshin but they read my works for the fandom anyway bc i wrote it and i feel #grateful that there will always be an audience i can count on to support my writing #but partially also bc i’m also happy w my writing that if i did post a fic that had not smut and it didn’t rly get attention i wouldn’t feel #disheartened by it bc writing it was meaningful to me #but #ig it’s just an interesting divide to see of like ‘i won’t read it without smut’ vs ‘i will read it with or without for the story !!’

horror and psychological thriller in tgcf was done so incredibly well that if the beautiful and touching love story wasn’t incorporated into the book, I would be fully convinced mxtx decided to switch to another genre.

no one really talks about her fascination with the descent to madness and the morals surrounding humanity. at least one main character of each book goes through it. for lbh, it stemmed from the fear of abandonment and the emptiness that follows when the people you care most about decide you aren’t worth being chosen. for wwx, it was the outside in. society deemed him a monster so he had no other option available to him. no way to prove them wrong, and no way to convince himself he’s not either. anything he would do, despite his most well meaning, sincere, and self sacrificing motives, will always be twisted by the world who likes to paint others the devil. for xl…it was such a defeating combination of the two that it was near impossible for him find a way out. no family nor friend to turn to, no place to hide or run away, continuously forced to confront dilemmas beyond anyone’s capacity that sawed away at his already frayed sanity. worse was him having to confront godhood doesn’t mean omnipotent, nor does ascension mean free of suffering.

the way i choose to see it as this is her commentary on human nature, in both freedom and fallibility. ascend to heaven as a human, yet those in heaven are still human. wants, desires, fears, traumas, love, hate, selfishness, self-lessness, kindness, compassion, sacrifice, loss, hubris, duty, family, friends, hierarchy, power, and, above all, free will are all things that make humans what they are. are we wwx and xl? sacrificing ourselves time and time again only to have it all thrown back at our face? never once chosen or understood unless when it’s something short of a miracle? or are we the masses? afraid of the sinister, the disease, the wars? afraid for our young and old, for the talented and lame? for our lives and legacy? what are we, if not forever doomed to be helplessly flawed and hopelessly human?

the way she sees it, we have always been, and always be, both sides. because to her, they aren’t mutually exclusive, but rather each reflections of the other. both never wrong, but never quite right either. convoluted and confusing, mundane yet a tale as old as time.

mxtx writes her beautiful loves stories seamlessly. but she displays her talent best of all by weaving tales of hope and humanity into the threads.

One of the (many) reasons why Harringrove works so well as a pairing is because Steve and Billy are compatible on a very fundamental, almost archetypical level. Steve Harrington being “the babysitter” might be a bit of a running gag in the show, but it really highlights his character as the caretaker. And who do we have on the other side? Billy fucking Hargrove, whose entire tragedy is that he desperately needs somebody to care.

This is a shipper’s wet dream—a pairing that is set up for success.

What’s even better is that the pairing has a lot of potential for angst and conflict (which naturally makes the resolution even sweeter) within this very same dynamic. See, Steve’s caring nature is fully capable of biting him in the ass; he often strikes me as the kind of guy who finds taking care of others more important or easier than taking care of himself (this post was made by the Too Depressed To Get Out Of Bed And Feed Myself, But My Cat Lives Like A King gang…), and as a result is prone to neglecting himself for the sake of other people. Billy is fun too, because his need for closeness and affection is directly sabotaged by his prickly exterior and self-defense mechanisms that make him always keep a safe distance between himself and other people. Holy shit, you can do so much stuff with these tropes.

So yeah, from a writer’s point of view this ship is built on a very solid dynamic. Because of this inherent compatibility Harringrove makes writing a fantastic experience for me. Now please excuse me, I have this “Billy and his mom move to Hawkins to escape from Neil” S2 AU to write…
