Verdant Wind: Chapter 17

First off, it's weird only doing two routes this time, since SS skips over this chapter, and I'm not going back to CF until all the final chapters are ready.

Below's all my thoughts about VW's take on Gronder Field. 😭I was not ready. OMG. How could you do this to me?

Pre-Battle:

Oh dear, God, no, Hilda. Is this Fog of War?

I picked "I'm worried" for Byleth, but it's not for the reasons Claude thinks. It's because I know Dimitri's coming (it's clearly setting up Battle of Eagle and Lion Round 2), and I'm betting he's not doing so hot.

Oh, shit, yep, here he is. I'm not ready for this guys.

It wouldn't make sense to "kill" Dimitri, just to bring him back and kill him for real a second later though.

I'm clinging to that. But I still don't feel good.

It is kind of pathetic that Dimitri has a more interesting plot in VW than Claude so far.

Oh, crap, everyone's here. Mercedes, Dedue, and Bernie. Do I have to kill them? I'm going to avoid killing whoever I can. So much for "kill 'em all - I am pathetic. Except Hubert lol. I love the guy, but I don't feel bad taking him out.

OK - but like Dedue and Mercie? They are too precious to have fun with "kill em all." And Bernie was so sweet after Jeralt's death that I feel bad.

At the same time . . . Killing them all . . . could be fun.

But Dedue and Mercie 😭And then I feel bad excluding Bernie.

I wonder if my dancer!Felix can fight Dimitri. I'll make sure Claude fights both lords, but I'm curious to see if Felix and Dimitri get unique dialogue.

What if I said - I don't want to defeat Dimitri - but the game said - defeat all enemy commanders 😭

Ohh - cut scene! God, it's been forever.

Edelgard fire bombing everyone. Dimitri getting revenge for the dead. Nothing's changed.

Seriously, Edelgard? She's like "we were classmates, but not today" and looks so sad. Like, girl, you caused all this.

I'm kind of annoyed at how she always feels so sorry for herself, not going to lie. I don't mind the characterization, but just it's always so focused on her and never her victims. But I feel this is my annoyance with CF bleeding through.

Which makes me wonder how I'd feel about her if I played this game one route after the next.

"Kill every last one of them!" - Chris Hackeny is a gem.

Imagine how shocking that is if you didn't play AM. I'd probably quit right there and see wtf happened, since all the Kingdom drama + Dimitri's Disney death + mysterious reappearance with a totally new attitude and sexy eyepatch would just be too much.

I feel so bad for Claude though. I've spent more time talking about Edelgard and Dimitri than him. But they both get such interesting in-character stuff, and he's like "man this class reunion sucks." Only Byleth got less stuff.

OK - Edelgard got some points back with her chaotic warfare and smarts trying to block the Kingdom and Alliance.

Battle Thoughts:

I've got a million fliers on this team, and Bernie's range is just too long. I think I'm going to just have to kill her.

Eh, whatever. Let's kill them all.

Hubert doesn't think much of my strategy.

Dimitri's not holding back here. It makes it really clear how far he's actually come in AM seeing him in VW like this.

Lysithea nuked Dedue and he . . . retreated? Does Dedue get to live? 😭😭😭

Dimitri's "Shut up and retreat. You must live, Dedue." after Dedue insists on fighting 😭😭😭Again - even at his absolute worst, Dimitri always gives Dedue special treatment.

HOLY SHIT - Edelgard just lit Bernie on fire. Oh my God. Guess that means I'm killing her :(

LAMO - Claude crit Edelgard. Kinda deserves it after that.

Now to have him (and Felix) fight Dimitri. If they can. Apparently Dimitri can one-shot Ignatz (that was one use of Divine Pulse).

Can anybody explain why Dimitri gets the "effective against" warning against literally every unit??

It's too bad Dimitri and Claude don't just team up. The situation feels kinda forced, but it makes sense given Dimitri's state of mind. Still feels like the game is just forcing "no two lords for you!"

WTF is this? Dimitri's even got effectiveness against an infantry dancer.

So Dimitri told Felix he's not worthy and to get out of his sight. Then Felix crit Dimitri and told HIM to get out of HIS sight. No unique dialogue though. 😭😭

OK guys, I spared Mercie. I . . . just couldn't. Dedue got nuked but retreated? And Bernie got set on fire AND had a droppable Brave Bow. Sorry.

So . . . Did Dimitri retreat or die?

Post Battle Thoughts:

Oh, shit. Hilda's "I saw him" doesn't sound good.

Well that sucks.

They really brought Dimitri back to life, only to kill him off two seconds later. It might be my Dimitri bias coming through, but that seems . . . kinda pointless tbh.

At least he's getting sympathetic treatment 😭😭😭

Dedue lived and he's all alone 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Why is it that Kingdom characters seem like they're getting a better story than poor Claude?

Lysithea's story is more interesting than Claude's 😭😭😭 Poor girl had it rough. Fuck the Empire.

Aww, Lorenz is the first one who said he'd follow Claude.

I love how on VW, Leonie and Raphael realize that the Empire's actions are a threat to the things they want to protect, but in CF they'll just toss that all into the wind because professor power.

Aww, Marianne's "I'll fight too." 😊😊😊I needed that after the drama with Dimitri and Dedue.

Why do we never get to see Holst??

Oh - so that's why Lysithea held off on her A-Support. It was waiting for that stuff with the mages.

Judith is so hot. I'm still mad I can't use her in battle.

All I need to take Fort Merceus is Dimitri - oh wait.

Is this the best the game could come up with for Claude's "schemes?" They dress up as Imperial soldiers and just walk in?

VW's tone feels too lighthearted for this game (esp after Dimitri 😭😭😭) , but at the same time it's a nice breather.

Literally ANYONE that could be a decent parental figure and help him not drown in his PTSD and survivor's guilt, which includes Seteth, Alois, and yes even BYLETH (because I have an ENTIRE au dedicated to that ask me later). I also think Dimitri and Annette could vibe really nice together yknow

My unpopular opinion about this character

On one hand, Himbo Dimitri is very funny and nice and I'll never get tired of it. On the other hand, Dimitri isn't really that kind of stupid. He's oblivious, yes, and denser than a brick wall, but I imagine he's smarter than even he realizes (or is willing to believe with all of his self loathing ;u;)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Pre-Verdant Wind Endgame Update

An Update on the ol’ Three Houses Verdant Wind playthrough, since I’ve been neglecting documenting my journey properly for a bit:

• My current placement is Ch.20, so I’m only a few chapters away from the last one. It’s kind of a weird thought because I feel like I just hit the timeskip, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will feel well-paced out. In terms of writing, I’m known for being a bit of a stickler for good flow. It’s why all of my fanfics take so long to update! I have to make sure my flow is perfect.

• The fact that they have been giving background information on characters has been so amazing. Learning that Raphael’s sister’s name was Maya and getting to hear about her has made me irrationally happy.

• Also, just generally, holy shit people sleep on Raphael and Leonie. Raphael often gets shoved to the side, and Leonie is treated like her only trait is liking Jeralt, and for me it all just culminates in the question of “so did you like... not do their support conversations, or...?” Seriously. I think Leonie might be one of my favourites in the game so far, and I adore Raph. He’s so sweet!

• The Flame Emperor reveal for some reason gave me “and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids” vibes. I liked the venom Cherami Leigh had there as Rhea, too. I think I read from someone that in Japanese, Rhea’s actually super calm in that scene. I don’t think I have a preference towards the anger or the calmness, honestly. I think I just liked how smoothly the emotion came across. Plus, I’m a little biased, I’m fond of Cherami as an actress. I haven’t found a performance from her I haven’t enjoyed yet.

• I was really confused as to why Seteth showed up in my house after Chapter 12ish I think? I wasn’t expecting him to just be there after the paralogue, but I definitely wasn’t unhappy. I do like him! I just never use him, because I recruited Bernadetta and Sylvain, so I kinda have a full roster going...

• I was also confused in the Gronder Field fight because I couldn’t see what people meant about Bernie getting set on fire. Then I remembered Bernie wasn’t on the hill because she was with me. I recruited her. Whatever this proves about me, I don’t know.

• I did end up beating Marianne’s paralogue! It actually wasn’t as hard once I levelled her up a bit and classed her to a Holy Knight. The big thing with her in that paralogue seems to be that she needs a decent amount of power and movement to really get by, so that’s what I’d recommend for anyone else playing it. Using rescue will also probably help you out, but I tried to avoid using Flayn there because it’s kinda easy to kill her.

• Admittedly, I’m not 100% sure how I feel about the support system. In some ways, I think it’s better that not everybody has that forced S-Support. Oftentimes we were either squeezing a love confession out of two characters who were unlikely to have one, or characters with decent potential might get snubbed because their connection was less apparent to the writers (and unfortunately that still does happen in the case of same sex S-supports in 3H). Having the conversations only go to a certain point is helpful, but at the same time, the inherent romantic undertones of several of the A-supports do make things feel strange. If it weren’t for the fact that I know characters can have only one partner as their paired ending, I would think lots of them were in a polycule. Nothing wrong with that as long as everyone’s comfortable, but because I know they can only have one person in their ending, I find it pretty jarring.

• I think it was interesting that they went to do the fights for breaking into Enbarr and then taking down Edelgard back-to-back. I’m glad they did, honestly, because while I don’t usually like to do two fights next to each other unless I’m grinding, it doesn’t mess with the suspension of disbelief. It would be stupid to break into Enbarr and then just run right back to the Monastery.

• I have still not completed the randomized quest from just after the timeskip. You know, the one I was yelling about with the weeds? Still haven’t gotten any weeds. I think I might just have to give up on it. It’s hilarious that my luck is so good that it’s actually bad.

• The fact that Byleth is praised for having more of a personality than Corrin is the biggest slice of bullshit I have heard from this fanbase in a long time. Byleth is literally designed to be a silent protagonist with nothing going on with them – they even came up with a story reason for why Byleth is such a blank sack of meat! In the kindest way possible, I don’t think most people realize that they are implementing whatever personality they want onto Byleth. Personally, I don’t find anything relatable about being stoic, calm, and not inclined to anyone (until plot happens, of course). I’ve always been the overly enthusiastic and caring type, with a tendency towards nervousness. Trying to relate to Byleth was like trying to relate to the experiences of a cactus. While I definitely don’t think Corrin is the strongest of the modern FE avatars – that award goes to Robin – they still had some things I could understand and relate to. If you’re not the type of person who loves the cool, “I fight for my friends” types like Ike, though, you’re likely to have a hard time relating to Byleth. If you can manage that type of character, then you’re more likely to have present them with a personality of their own.

• Actually, while we’re on the topic of Byleth getting praised for things Corrin got dragged for, the fact that Corrin is still cited as the character who receives the most “player pandering” is ridiculous too. Do a lot of characters like Corrin? Yeah! But most of them who do are deeply traumatized in a way that inclines them specifically towards Corrin. The Nohr siblings cling to each other due to their abusive childhood, the Hoshido siblings all in some capacity seem to suffer from abandonment issues (oldest) and/or attachment issues (youngest), and the official foursome of retainers have also had some sort of abandonment struggle in their past (forced separation from parents, murdered loved ones). While the cast of Three Houses needs therapy and is traumatized too, there is no reason why the inclination moves towards Byleth. Bernadetta feels safe around them just because. Edelgard is obsessed with them just because. Marianne learns to feel better about herself just because. Why are there so many exceptions for Byleth, and so many just without explanation? I don’t hate Byleth by any means, but these two things make my opinion of them lower than it would be otherwise. It kinda sucks that my image of Byleth is tainted by the fanbase’s hypocrisy, but I know I can’t have everything.

• The gameplay overall for 3H has been pretty fun! I love the addition of the Demonic Beasts, as annoying as they are to fight. There’s a charm to having some of your stronger units working to take on the soldiers blocking the path, meanwhile your army’s more intermediate strikeforce works to keep them safe by bringing down the beast. Once you get the hang of it, gameplay with the new additions is fun. The only thing I don’t use is Divine Pulse, but that’s because I’m on Casual and usually when I want to rewind, I want to just plain start over. So I use the old “turn off and start again” trick.

• Edelgard’s death scene was actually pretty good. I must confess that I went out of my way to avoid Edelgard in the academy phase, as I knew how hard the game was going to hit me with the “she’s obessed with you” thing and I wanted to see how wonky it would feel if I didn’t speak to her much. I was right that it’s incredibly awkward in terms of writing when you haven’t spent the time with her, but surprisingly, her death scene still holds up. Good voice acting, animation, and music. My only beef with it is something they have done in FE before, and it’s something I wish they’d stop. If a character is dying, you either let them have a few last breaths after their last lines or you kill them mid-sentence. It’s probably just a personal nitpick, but hearing them get their last word out without struggle and then immediately die just makes me aware of how badly the directors wanted the whole line to be in there. I can totally understand it but I find it so troublesome in the grand scheme of things that I just can’t.

• I also like that in the fight against Edelgard, they tried to make it ambiguous who had the key. Immediately as it told me that, I decided it was Petra and ended up being right. I was kind of sad to kill her though, to be honest. I don’t know her well, but she’s probably one of the Eagles I like more.

• The fight against the Death Knight at Fort Merceus ended up being surprisingly pretty easy. In fact, while I paved the way for most of my army, Nader ended up making it to the Death Knight just as Claude did. He did most of the damage – I’m not kidding, the Death Knight was down to 1 HP – and then Claude took care of the rest. It was a weird fight. They said impregnable a lot leading up to it.

• I understand why they kill Dimitri off-screen at the Gronder Field fight, but I was admittedly a bit disappointed. Again, Salli Saffoti does a good job doing Hilda’s voice for it, but I would have liked to see it animated. It was also nice to have that little rapport with Dedue! If only we could have allied with the Lions a bit more. Everyone always says Claude and Edelgard have similar goals; however, it’s their methods that differ. Claude seems to align himself a bit closer to Dimitri, so I’m usually a bit confused by the idea that Edelgard and Claude would work together. I was spoiled on enough to know her background and story, and even so, I think that her methodology is just a bit too violent for his tastes. But that’s just my two cents.

Alright. I think that’s about all I can drain out of my brain from the top of my head. With that, I am off to kill the slithers! We’ll see how this goes. Wish me luck!

a tiny list of wanted plots, aus, & connections ( fe3h edition ) !!

the first & most obvious of connection desires--- the remaining housemates! plots / threads with the rest of the blue lions ( dimitri, dedue, ingrid, mercedes, annette--- technically also felix for sylvain & sylvain for felix considering i have my own version of each ) as well as the remaining golden deer ( hilda, lorenz, ignatz, marianne, raphael and of course a claude & lysithea since, again, i have my own test versions of each )

i would love to also plot & focus on their relationships with other characters within the series--- examples being characters they may have supports with ( that could be better fleshed out ), characters they should have supports with and that imo we were very clearly deprived of and deserved, and characters that could have ( and very well may have ) met prior to their academy days; a prime example being edelgard and my blue lions boys, being that they’re both childhood friends of dimitri’s ( as mentioned & inspired by the lovely eaglegard ! )

i would love to plot and thread out arranged marriage scenarios, namely given the time period ( arranged marriages were a big thing back then as they are here ! )

soulmate aus, soulmate aus, soulmate aus, soulmate aus, sou---

game of thrones aus which would fit ! with the time period so well !

alternate house verses--- i would love to throw sylvain, felix, & lysithea into other houses ( i would especially love to play with black eagles verses for sylvain & lysithea specifically due to the backstories, histories, and feelings regarding crests, the church, & religion / the goddess in general )

quest for magic aus where the muses in question live in a world where magic once existed but has since vanished ( due to a spell or a curse cast by some wicked king or queen, etc ) and now have found themselves together on a journey to restore it--- again, this would fit so well with the time period

worlds split in two— humans vs fae ( think acotar, throne of glass, or the cruel prince ). again, fun & fitting for the time period !!!!

i’ve mentioned this one in a prior wishlist post ( actually, i’ve mentioned a couple of these on prior wishlist posts i’ve made ) but, give me a plot / au based on the relationship between jon snow and ygritte a la game of thrones— two muses from two totally different worlds, from two enemy organizations, fall in love against all odds. however, one muse, though genuinely in love, has been working undercover, spying, the entire time and betrays the other muse. now muse two is out for blood--- will their love prevail or will one ultimately die ??

i want a thread based on sylvain & his recklessness on the battlefield--- give me a plot / thread where one of his friends / comrades is in trouble and he races across the battlefield to get to them in time, where he flings himself from his horse in an effort to save them, where he ultimately risks and sustains serious ( potentially near fatal ) injuries to protect them, risking his life to save their own with reckless abandon

me? still weak ( & dying ) at the idea of someone training felix to be the house representative for the white heron cup

i want tea time & snacks & bonding time for lysithea !!!!

speaking of lysithea i want people to push her out of her comfort zone, i want her to have friends and live her life the way she deserves !!

give me an au where sylvain actually does run away, where he stops trying to be the ideal son, the perfect noble and heir that he’s expected to be, where he grows up and lives his life entirely differently, without all the pressure of the crest that he bears, that he’s expected to pass on

ships & dynamics ( platonic, romantic, & familial ) that allow me to further explore my muses & their thoughts, their feelings, & the inner workings of their minds, their internal struggles--- i would especially love to focus on felix and sylvain, being as complex as they are in regard to their relationships with other people ( namely when it comes to friendships and potential love interests ). also because they’re my main 3h muses, so...

basically just give me plots & aus that involve angsty romance, sylvain & / or felix falling in love and being fucking complicated and messy as they are prone to being, discovering & dealing with & coming to terms with their feelings, facing their inner demons and struggling, and just..... let them experience romance, let them fall in love, let me explore this, let me explore these sides of them

while on the topic of potentially complex and complicated romance...... imagine... two muses courting one another, having legitimate feelings for one another, falling in love but !! as is the nature of their time period, one ( or both ) of them is promised to another, in an arranged marriage, has been for years--- the angst and drama of it all !!

in other words, secret dating, secret dating, secret dati---

a plot / relationship based on this headcanon & this post because it would be absolutely hilarious

tell me this wouldn’t be fucking exceptional--- an au based vaguely on the idea of hercules in which one muse ( perhaps a would be god who’s lost their immortality and is trying to earn it back or a human with a prophecy ) must prove their worth by completing a series of seemingly impossible tasks; killing ‘monsters’ for example ( now also imagine that, perhaps, one of those monsters is the other muse; alternatively muse one could be saving them from a monster ). GREEK MYTHOLOGY AUS FOR THE 3H MUSES !!!

another fitting for the time period au--- a cinderella phenomenon au ( for those unfamiliar, the muses in question would bear curses inspired by faerie tales, often with the worst possible outcome. for example, a muse afflicted with the little mermaid curse might literally dissolve into seafoam after a set amount of time should they not find their true love )

all of them dealing with their thoughts, with their feelings, with the loss that they’ve experienced amidst the war

fe3h blogging 2 because the post got too long

Edelgard Claude foiling. Both see that the world is wrong and that motivates them to make it better. Claude listens to people, Edelgard listens to herself. Claude reflects and introspects, Edelgard doesn’t.

I was going to write more but I realized I was just bashing Edelgard so I stopped. Anyways, the Gatekeeper has a backstory??? a younger twin brother and they’re from the empire?? Also wow Edelgard is REALLY into you (the light in the darkness pft)

I also want to comment how the Church of Seiros unlike some other fantasy religions really is like real life historical (and current) religious organizations. There’s a mix of people from the non believers but there to help, to those that believe this is the best way to help people, to those looking for power, to the people who are there because its a way to make a living. I want to make clear though that Sothis/The Goddess is dead and she can only act a little bit through Byleth. Before the game The Goddess has NO influence on Fodlan. Anyone praying is doing nothing in terms of reaching The Goddess.

3h totally fooled me with the hair colors. I’m too use to JRPGs have rainbow haircolors so I think nothing of it but in this game the white/green hair are plot significant.

Somehow related to dragon shenanigans(white/green): Sothis, Lysithea, Flayn, Edelgard, Byleth, Rhea, Seteth

Plausibly a normal color with weird undertones: Ignatz, Shamir, Petra, Felix, Lindhardt,

That inexplicably JRPG colored hair: Bernadetta, Hilda, Caspar, Marianne, Ashe, Lorenz

Ch14 of Crimson Flowers has made me unfathomably sad. Claude hold himself so tightly, closed off with high walls. He always has a face on, doesn’t break composure. But in ch 14 in the face of losing his dream you can see the cracks in walls. And Claude may be closed off but he is in no way cold hearted or uncaring, he cares so much and you see that as the Empire gains ground. That battle is one of the few glimpses of Claude. Whether he is killed or spared, both are sad. The cut scene after Claude is spared is seemingly lighthearted and a tonal contrast to the serious battle right before it. Without knowing Claude better it seems like a breather before more plot happens, but knowing Claude that scene really breaks my heart. In contrast with the moments of honesty during the battle, Claude’s social mask has snapped right back into place, hiding all of his pain. Claude’s dream meant all to him, being able to walk side by side with his friends in a new world, and that dream just took a devastating blow. Claude is by no means dishonest during that scene, but knowing how devastated he is on the inside yet forcing himself to hold it all together... He’s sad and now I’m sad.

The Insurrection of the Seven is fascinating to me. Just because people keep saying different things about it. Was the Emperor seeking to consolidate power for the throne and the nobles stopped him or where the nobles always seeking to turn the Emperor into a puppet ruler? To my limited knowledge I think for a while Emperors had been losing power. Enough so that the experiments on Edelgard and her siblings could not be stopped. He then tried to expand his power and was crushed.

Crimson Flower is quite interesting. Edelgard and Hubert are walking a fine line balancing the church and the Agarthans. The Empire appears unified but its a shell for the Agarthans and Edelgard is betting on the appearance of that shell.

Wow Dimitri is surprisingly sane and not feral in CF. Does the purple clouds in Dimitri’s death CG remind anyone else of the S support CGs?

Lysithea and Edelgard can bond over shared childhood experiences and being short

Can you imagine Claude, Hilda, and Sylvain as a squad. They would radiate such chaotic energies just standing next to each other that Nemesis would leap out of his cyberpunk containment pod and start dancing to leek spin

How is Dimitri clean shaven post timeskip?? Most people in the grips find it hard to be functional and do basic tasks and your telling me he meticulously shaves everyday? I'm calling it. Dimitri is trans and can't grow a whisker

So the brits (and w europe really) went mad for tea and got it through colonization of india. Where does fodlan get its tea?? I dont talk about dorothea enough. I almost chose BE just for her. She hates nobles and its great. The voice acting is top notch too. Dorothea-Ferdinand c support is memorable to me because of the voice acting. The line delivery was so good. Especially the " I hate you " from Dorothea. She's so savage. She was the only one I considered S supporting after intsys robbed me of claude. Didn't go through with it though. It always feels wierd romancing fictional characters.I remember how P3 forced me on the harem route and wow that was uncomfortable. Dorothea is kind. I like kind people. She's so full of love (Manuela is the other character overflowing with love), and her compassion extends to everyone. She understands the grief of war. Contrast that to local manlet Caspar. Once he's decided someone is an "enemy" he stops caring. Oh Caspar... All of Dorothea's supports are so good too... Dorothea's backstory can get a little disturbing. She's 18 at the beginning of the game. She began singing with the company at 10 and gained fame at 13. What troubles me his how she talks about how after every show she was innundated with marriage proposals and such. The way she talks about it, it went on for a while, and while sure the letters and stuff could have been from other teenagers, that she was getting all this as a teenager is creepy. In addition, then she talks about the nobles fawning over her and it made my skin crawl. But the worst was that a noble possibly her father was coming on to her . Like Dorothea, I'm with you. Let's burn down the world. Despite the justifiable anger though, dorothea is so full of love. Until the last her heart never turns cold.

Thinking about claude and edelgard. On one hand their personalities, ideals, and ambitions complement each other. On the other hand Edelgard doesn't understand how people work and Claude is a manipulator, guarded, he never lets any one in(edited)Claude can totally read her, but Edelgard reacts poorly to criticism and dissent.... Claude has no faith. Not in his dreams and not in himself. With out a push, he's not proactive. Edelgard charges straight ahead while Claude takes the circuitous path. "Defensive" thats the word for edelgard, she so easily thinks people are out for her. Whereas claude deflects. Both are fuelled by a sense of justice. Edelgard thinks in terms of eliminating enemies, claude thinks in terms of recruiting allies. The point is the the tragedy that they would make great friends! But thats not happening in this universe! Because edelgard's bull headed and claude wont open up!

Watching s supports and anyone notice theres 3 variations on the ring. There 2 silver and green ones. At first I thought small green stone was from people with common origins and big stone from noble. But I just saw saw one with a gold ring.It could be that the character is just that extra. And yeah it is gold is from Ferdinand and Lorenz.

so that whole fuss that byleth's mom was rhea's daughter was because tons of "gamers" chose BE first and misinterpreted Edelgard's speculation. When in reality Jeralt was the one who Rhea gifted her crest (seiros) to, extending his lifespan. Rhea then cut out baby Byleth's heart and then replaced it with Sothis's crest stone hoping that Sothis would posses byleth. All we know of the mom is that she was a nun and died young. Flames crest stone joined to Byleth's heart (CF ending cutscene). Rhea placed Sothis' heart in baby Byleth to revive Sothis (VW ch 22 opener). She has done human experimentation on people to revive Sothis before (implication). Seiros/Rhea did so so that Sothis would posses the body (Rhea dialog consistently referring to Byleth as "Mother" or hoping that Sothis will poke through).

The only time Claude’s anger breaks through his composure is with Rhea. This is significant as Claude almost never loses his composure, and this highlights how Rhea in the only person Claude hates. Claude doesn’t hate Edelgard or Dimitri or any of the other people that may kill him, just Rhea.

question about the Black Eagles/Crimson Flower ending: why does Byleth collapse and then Sothis' crest stone break? I mean I will give it a break since its symbolic and thematically significant and all and it was a excellent touch that Sothis' heart and Byleth's heart have literally weaved together. Is reviving Byleth Sothis' last act?? Why did Byleth have to die to begin with though? ... well maybe Byleth didn't die since they didn't have a heartbeat to begin with. So far the writing in 3H has been pretty good though there have been weak spots. I think that CF final scene was put in more because it "felt right" than because it was logical. it fits with edelgard's goals and what the route's been about. its just if you really think about it. It doesn't make sense based on what is already known. I mean crest stones could have other powers but I haven't seen that anywhere else in the game. As for the story as a whole, the main acting forces in the game are Edelgard+Empire, those who slither in the dark, and Rhea+Church. Claude also has his own ambitions, but those 3 are more deeply entwined. Each faction has its own goals and past and a good chunk of the game is figuring out what those are. Its also ironic that GD despite how Claude is not enmeshed in ... that other mess, sheds so much light on the other factions.

The main theme is probably about Rhea since it plays a lot during Rhea scenes and the church is a central focus of the story.

i think blue lions was written first. 1 the two monthly missions that have to do with students’ families are both in BL (Ashe and Sylvain). 2 two fairly important side characters at the monastery are related to BL students (Annette and Mercedes). Chapter 3 actually provides a intro for all the lords in their respective routes. Edelgard’s scene is serious but not especially sad, instead you can feel te fire burning within Edlegard and the scene shows how she’s willing to sacrifice the lives of those under her if she believes she is doing the right thing. Claude’s is actually quite light hearted in tone after the first few lines and it highlights the mystery surrounding him and makes him seem very sketchy. Chapter 3 in Blue Lions though is really sad. Ashe my baby boy. Here there is a sense of tragedy in the post battle scene

oh there is another Claude loses his temper. Its when a bunch of thieves (badly) impersonate Almyrans and Claude is so offended they didn’t put enough effort into the act and that they’re weak.

Ignatz and Raphael. I must protect both of them. sweet sweet boys. Raphael has the biggest heart and Ignatz just wants to help. Team Protect Raphael's Heart. When you fight her shes wearing armor with elements from both the flame emperor and her part 2 outfit yeah edelgard is yikes. i agree with her goals but her disregard for yhe lives under her concerns me. And between her tendency to brute force solutions, those who slither in the dark, and the empires situation, I think she was doomed to fail from the start

Is there anything you’d change about the characters in Three Houses for fun? Such as, height, age, clothes, body type, hair, or even their house? I find myself unintentionally imagining Caspar buffer and taller then he actually is ^^,

I’d make a lot of them older. The teacher student thing would have been a lot less of a weird issue if they were all at least 18-20. I mean Sylvain and Mercedes were in their 20s from the beginning so idk why they felt everyone else had to be like 16. Except maybe Lysithea whose need to be seen as mature would benefit from everyone being 20 somethings to her 15-16. It would also make her backstory, imo, sadder being the youngest by that many years and still being the most likely to die. It would make her look smarter and play up the whole prodigy thing. Like all around her character would benefit from everyone else being older.

And I’m going ahead to say this got longer than I intended lol. I’m so sorry! The rest of my long rambling mess under the cut

I don’t really know a lot of the character heights. I know I’ve looked at the heights even charts people made with all of them lined up but I guess cuz their fictional I don’t keep that in mind to much. I’m probably imagining a lot of the character heights wrong to but it’s whatever to me. Caspar funny enough though I had checked and I swear I remember seeing he was 5′9″, which was fine that’s taller than I am lol, but I checked again and he’s actually 5′6″ which is shorter than me but only by an inch so it’s still fine like it’s hardly a noticeable difference. I do prefer guys my height or taller though so I guess I’d make him taller??? It just seems kind of ridiculous cuz it’s just an inch lol.

Hair though! That’s all Felix and Raphael like holy shit do they have terrible hair. Felix more so than Raphael. Like Raphael just needs it maybe a little less fluffier and shorter. He highkey looks like a hobbit post time skip and tweaking it a little could remedy that. Felix on the other hand has like three different parts to his hair. Idk if that’s suppose to mean he’s trying to look good or if it’s suppose to show he isn’t trying at all but Pre-Timeskip had the perfect “I don’t care about my look” look. It was pulled back in a messy bun with strands sticking out everywhere because he genuinely doesn’t care about the superficial. It perfectly told us that he woke up pulled his hair back and called it a day oppose to his timeskip look which seems like he took more time for??? Judging from the little ponytail it’s also shorter which is a good choice. I totally believe Felix just got fed up of dealing with his hair and just cut it to not waste his time on it anymore. So maybe they could have gone shorter. Maybe like a more messy version of timeskip Claude’s hair? Or keep the short ponytail but just don’t have the three different hair parts to get to the ponytail.

Clothing wise I’m gonna say they should have let Raphael l have a boob window! Like it looks like they were gonna let him have one but then added another layer to cover him up. Like if Bernie of all people can have a boob window why not Raph??? I’d also change it so Caspar could maybe have at least his arms exposed. He’s very proud of his muscle (which is why I think a lot of people draw him beefy) so I would think he’d want them out for people to see. He literally has a tea time line drawing attention to his arms being muscular but we can’t even see them??? The generic warrior class, which is his cannon timeskip class, is also pretty revealing so he more than other male character could have been showing off some skin. Change his unit class color to something other than brown. I want to say blue but I think they might have not done that so he wouldn’t be confused as a blue lion,which I get but it also didn’t stop Marianne. Green or teal would be nice to if we can’t go blue (which are Lynhardt colors but their besties so its fine).

Speaking of going blue and being mistaken for a blue lion. If I had to change Caspar’s house it be to blue lion. I’ve seen a few posts on here actually of people making a case for why he’d be great in that house and I can’t say I disagree. He has a lot of potential dynamics there (three of his supports are blue lion with only two yellow deer already) with the most important to me being with Felix. Those two would immediately fight for sure but I think come out as best friends at the end over their love of fighting and even world view. They’re both characters who don’t care about nobility or what others think of them just doing whats right for them and looking out for people. A support with Sylvain could also be pretty funny considering how his C-support with Dorothea and A-support with Hilda went. He’s lovable but not particularly flirty or even good at catching on when someone is flirting (shout out to the random girl who tried to get him to the goddess tower) but clearly interested in flirting, sex, and romance based on his reaction in Dorothea’s C and B-support (personally I think he really thought he was getting to first base until he was made to move furniture lol) and how excited he got in Byleth’s S-support. So having Sylvain try and teach poor oblivious Caspar would be great! Idek if it be funnier to have it end miserably like Dimitri’s or in actual success. A support with Dimitri would be…Something. If you have Caspar, which of course I did, Dimitri personally apologizes to Caspar about Randolph and Caspar didn’t really seem to care but maybe seeing that conversation in more detail could be interesting. Theirs also the whole justice and violence conversation they both could have with eachother. Other than Caspar idk who else I’d move maybe Lyndhardt to yellow deer? The house is a lot more chill so it seems more his speed. Mercedes being a black eagle could lead to very interesting interactions with Edelgard and Huebert.

For body types I’d make Leonie and Petra have a more visibly athletic build. I honestly think Caspar is suppose to be muscular. Based solely on that one tea time line and his support with Raphael but if he isn’t then I’ll make him muscular! Like the only reason he isn’t…Shown? Is because they gotta have the characters with mostly the same body types to make all the unit class modeling and animating easier. They did this in Fates to with the most glaring example being Saizo. The portrait clearly shows him as this really buff very muscular ninja but give him the towel and all of a sudden his like really lean??? I think that’s what’s happening in three houses. The brawler and grapplers show this the best because Raphael and Dedue who are clearly bigger than the whole cast still have the same model as everyone else. It’s honestly a little weird but I get why they do it. So while I don’t think Caspar is anywhere near Raphael or Dedue he is beefier than what his brawler/grappler/war master class would suggest imo
