What I think the Leverage Team is truly afraid of:

Nate: Losing. Not just losing the con- but more importantly losing the team. Of course he never voices it. However the team knows. It's why they always come back. Nate already lost his son, his job, and his wife- can't lose his team. He can't lose his second family.

Sophie: Broken Masks. This may be a jump in the dark- but. Sophie has SO many personas. Mask's she's created all on her own that I don't think she even knows who she is anymore. I think she's afraid of somebody finally figuring her out and that terrifies her. Not only because she'll lose all sorts of control- but she'll think if they figure out the real her, all they'll see is a women that's weak.

Parker: Abandment. She's finally found people who are like her. In a way that of course their different- but still they are like her. These people know what it's like to be alone. To be lost. Having to figure out a way to get out, because it's a way to survive. She's afraid that one day- they'll walk away. Just like everyone else. And I think that's why she pokes and pushes. Trying to figure out what it'll take for them to walk away. They don't.

Hardison: Uselessness. I think this is why he's so outgoing. Why he's so out there and personal with everyone. He wants to be seen as strong. As being useful. I mean- he hacked into Sweden(?) to pay for his Nana's surgery. He felt useful then. Now, he's in a team- and with all these useful members. He's afraid they don't need him. That's why he's tried multiple times to be the mastermind. And of course he fails- not because he doesn't know what he's doing. But because even with the "I know what I'm doing," attitude- he's terrified that he'll do it wrong.

Eliot: The Dark. This I can't explain fully. Maybe it's from the tidbits I hear in conversations. But he's afraid of the dark. Not the actual dark. No. The darkness that's in him and that he tries to keep control of. It's the darkness he had when he was working for Monreau. The monster that was created in him every time he spilled innocent blood. Eliot is afraid that the darkness will come out and his family will see just how much of a monster he is.

Hi friends, just a quick message about the Seb in The Apprentice situation. I've (understandably) been getting quite a few messages about it, most of them wondering why on earth Seb had to take this role, and also expressing concerns and hurt about the whole thing. I absolutely hear all of you, and really feel for those of you who are worried and upset. I am too, to some extent, but I know it's far worse for some of you who have been directly affected by this despicable man's actions and influence. I'm so sorry this is bringing back awful memories and emotions, and that it's tainting what should be your safe space and/or escape. That genuinely sucks, to put it mildly 😔

While I always try to make sure that this blog remains a positive and safe space as much as possible, this is something that I couldn't help but express my own concerns about as well. However, I have done that now, and I feel like for the moment, that's all the attention I want to devote to it. The more we talk about it, the more negativity it seems to garner, and that's doesn't feel beneficial to anything. So for the moment, I won't be replying to any more asks about this situation, at least not until we have more substantial information about the direction this movie is taking and what its goal is. I hope that's okay. Thank you for understanding, and I'm sending lots of love and hugs to everyone who needs it ❤️

One thing I haven't seen anyone touch on yet is a major deciding factor for me: Are we talking about the initial surprise at the exact second you open the door, or are we talking about the lingering effects of the encounter?

I voted walrus as more surprising because if I open the door and see a big fat walrus, it's going to be much more of an immediate shock. I'd be doing a double take. "What the hell is this thing doing here?!" It's right in my face, it probably stinks, it may be confused and aggressive. It might very well trigger my fight-or-flight response on sight. Even if it's just an elaborate prank, unlikely but plausible, that fact will still take a hot minute to process.

Conversely, if I open the door and see a fairy, it's likely to take slightly longer for the surprise factor to kick in. Depending on the size and appearance of the fairy, it might just look like a person in costume. Even if it's a tiny sparkly pixie, it'll take an extra second to spot it and fully take in the reality of it. I'm not necessarily going to immediately think "wtf, a fairy?!" and be mindblown. More likely, I'll INITIALLY think either "Did I forget it's Halloween today?" or "What's that floating in front of me?"

However, if we're talking about the surprise that lingers afterward and the lasting effects on my worldview, fairy is more surprising, no question. I've already had time to figure out how exactly the walrus got to my door; it was probably a prank or some kind of wild mishap. And even IF it's a crazy smart, totally sentient walrus, that at least kind of tracks with... evolution, I guess??? Whereas a fairy will completely shatter my existing worldview. (In a good way. I'd LOVE that! But still - totally shattered.)

Alright. I'm going to say it. I'm not that excited for First and Toru's section of War of Y.

I just don't imagine how I will find the ending of this story satisfying in any way. If the show truly wants to explore toxic BL shipping and the implications in a real life relationship, then from a meta point of view it's very interesting - but then it won't truly be a "BL", and it'll probably end sad in some way shape or form.

On the flip side, if this goes the star-crossed lovers who do eventually get together...I begin to worry about potential fandom response and galvanizing the more aggressive shipping behavior.

I can fully acknowledge that the more meta-critical BL's are just not going to hold my interest. I deeply support the anti-shipping messages behind Lovely Writer, so I let the show play in the background of my tabs to support it even though I didn't watch. So this is probably largely a me issue, but I just wish I was more excited.

They were my favorite pair in Y-Destiny, so I'll probably at least start the series, but I'm not getting good vibes.

I find the idea both fascinating and worrying.

Right now, there is a huge boom in people shipping actors, talking about them as soulmates, discussing their crushes and yelling about them calling each other attractive.

And having a show come out with not just the idea of actor shipping but what is likely to be happy shipping of a couple of actors playing actors that will confirm the idea that everything they post in social media about their relationships is always true? Oof. Worry. Do not like. Fear.

But I also love meta-critical BLs, no denials. I tend to adore them.

This one looks more like a soap opera than a meta-critical to me, though.

It doesn't feel realistic the way Lovely Writer or Call It What You Want did.

This chapter of War of Y feels more like... a messy BL soap opera with a 'realistic' twist that isn't a twist or realistic at all.

Am I excited? Eh. Messy isn't my thing and, frankly, with both Check Out and Love Mechanic running right now I don't know if I need more mess in my life. And it doesn't help that this looks like someone took those two shows and shoved them into a blender and poured them out into a soap opera.

My greatest dream for this show would be for it to end in a poly relationship (3 Will Be Free's soap opera successors, if I may) but I don't believe in that at all.

But yeah. Honestly, anytime a show starts to blur the line between reality and fantasy, character and actor, I worry. Because people are so, so prone to doing the same thing. We can see them. We know about it.

So... am I excited? Eh. Honestly, they're not even my favorite acting pair from Y-Destiny.

But I will watch it and discuss it and analyze it and look at it through a critical eye. Because that's how I enjoy it.

Anyway.

Actors are people.

They are not who you see in the shows or even on their social media. They are real people with real lives and what you know is what they let you know and that's good. Please respect that.
