Have you ever wanted to draw something but you fought due to your skill level at the time you decide not to do it
Yeah I’ve had moments like that. It’s always frustrating when you have a vision in your head and it’s not translating to your medium of choice. But honestly? I say go for it anyway. Getting something out and pushing yourself has always been worth it to me, and it gives you something to look back on when you do have the skill to pull it off how you want. (Also, I’ve found references help immensely when I’m struggling with a particular pose or background element!)

This is a reminder to everyone in North America who is unable to get tickets for the pre-sale and general sale of Sleep Token’s Teeth of God tour. DO NOT buy resale tickets through third-party vendors like StubHub, Seat Geek, Vivid Seats, etc. Tickets for the Teeth of God tour are mobile-only and non-transferable. Creators I love you but it's time to wake up
Among rumors about our tumblr user data being sold off to Midjourney/Generative AI, recent Extremely transphobic events (that have been ongoing) coming to a head, another extremely concerning internet censorship bill being pushed in upper levels of government, and a general air of frustration over how the site belongs to and is operated by perhaps the second stupidest CEO (second only to twitters own) of our age, I'm very done with the last few vestiges of what the old internet held for artists.
And if you're reading this, you probably are too.
I know we're tired. We are all tired. It is not always viable to pack up shop and move, again and again and again.
From tumblr to twitter to anywhere else we've ever grown up posting, things no longer work. Our audiences are kneecapped by aggressive and hostile algorithms, our reach is abysmal - if we aren't shadow-banned or silenced for one (transphobic) reason or another, we're thrust into an ever growing pit of hostility where the only thing that drives clicks is fighting and contention.
We're tired. We're so fucking tired. We aren't businesses, we aren't content mills, we cannot keep this pace that modern social media has set for us, to wring every ounce of creativity out of us to profit from and leave us rotting.
The key to staying afloat here, and I cannot stress this enough, is to stay connected to your peers.
Pack up and move as units if you must. Exodus from the sites that are killing us. Push your entire friend group of artists to move from one site to the next that promises you a kinder experience.
Art drives movements, it drives change, it is all that encompasses being human. If you take that away from the shitty places, they will be left with nothing but a cesspit of inhumanity and the people who follow you will be more incentivized than ever to move with you.
Yes, this is terrifying. There are no guarantees. There never was, and never are, and never will be.
But stay connected. Stay human.
Support each other and be willing to hold hands and jump when we all - as a group - need to jump from the flames we're all trying to convince ourselves wont kill us before rescue comes.
Rescue isn't coming, rescue will be found hand in hand with each other. I'm offering you my hand, please take it. There's always a new start, there are always helping hands reaching for you. You have to look up from the doom-scroll long enough to see and take them.

Team "would rather die than admit something's bothering them"
So for the first good chunk of their relationship, Bad Luck and Vash were more "fucking" than "dating". Bad Luck was really apprehensive about romantic entanglements, and had been taken advantage of by a friend, in the past. (While not THE reason he was kicked out of his community, it was definitely related.)
However, Vash-- aware of Luck's hesitance but not of the reasons why-- already had a little bit of a crush on him. So when Luck stupidly offered a FWB situation, Vash accepted, thinking he could be chill about it. He quickly realized, no, he could NOT be chill about it, and spent the next few months relentlessly pining and feeling guilty and wanting to broach the subject, but never saying anything.
Eventually, Vash's crush gets revealed, and by that point Bad Luck has kinda fallen in love with him and they get together and Bad Luck insists that it's all fine, water under the bridge. Truthfully, though, he feels a little betrayed, and has this sense of "why the fuck would you think that's a good idea" towards Vash, hanging over his head. But he also thinks he has no place feeling this way because he never told Vash why he was so hesitant (and still hasn't), and also he does love Vash now anyway, so there's really no point bringing this up now and messing with the status quo, right?
And that's just the beginning of their relationship. There's a whole bunch of other plot-related problems they never talk about until after things boil over. Eventually, they'll get their acts together and talk through everything, I promise. Eventually. It just, might take until after the plot's fully resolved for them to get there.

Hey! Your art really inspires me. Do you have any tips on drawing faces? Or where to start? :))
i answered an ask a while back on my drawing process if you’d like to apply my general tips to faces!
but when it comes to face studies + interpreting specifically, the best way i can describe my process is.. vibes? it’s why i avoid drawing characters i’m not familiar with, and why the most helpful kind of refs i can receive as a commission artist includes some indication of personality (like different expressions or a brief bio)
i mentioned in the other ask that i have poor facial recognition + visual memory, so collecting references of a variety of faces over time helps more than you know! try to go for candid shots of average ppl too, pinterest models start getting redundant at some point. i like to study actors bc, yes, even tho they’re more likely to be conventionally attractive, many of them are casted specifically bc they have a recognizable face or some kind of unique feature(s). it’s even better if you do a character from a live-action show bc they’ll look more natural in motion than the actor posing for the camera. this goes double for people-watching irl (DO NOT take photos of strangers without their consent). basically if you’re me, romanticize all the different features that exist and always take an interest in the inherent uniqueness of every individual ^__^ 👍
the smaller details also rly help liven up a face; every feature adds up. i usually start drawing based on feeling, and Then try to go into what i’ve drawn with a deliberate consciousness. study what feels right and exaggerate the traits that are more unique to This Particular Face. i tend to take notes for characters i’ll draw often bc i’ll know what Vibe i’m going for. sometimes i can tell that smth is off/missing, so i keep notes to know where to steer my eyes. having visual-only refs helps ofc, but i like giving a story to the things i draw, it builds up the bigger picture in my head

Feel free to ignore this, but I love reading your analysis and was wondering how you start analyzing things? I try to do it myself but I always feel so unconfident in my interpretations and feel scared about posting about them and them being “wrong.”
Just curious to see how you approach your analysis and meta! Have a lovely day!
Ooh, what a good question! I'm happy to share a little, sure.
Under the cut bc it got long hehe 😅
So my first (and probably the most important) response to this is: it's hard to feel 100% sure that you are totally "correct" about this stuff.
There are always going to be other ways to interpret things. There are things you miss, or perspectives you don't consider. There will always be people who disagree. And even if you are as accurate and totally convincing as humanly possible, there always going to be different types of analysis that you can't cover all at the same time!
I think, especially when it comes to like, doing casual analysis for something you love, it really helps to just follow your passion. It's fine to speak confidently about an interpretation that you find compelling, even if you haven't considered every possible angle of how it could be wrong. It's about what speaks to you, after all.
For instance, the conflict-avoidant Falin post (which is currently the analysis post of mine with the most notes) was largely born from an interpretation of Falin that really resonated with me, based on a couple of points I remembered strongly from reading the story. It's definitely not the only way to look at Falin, and I don't think it's like the universally correct interpretation of her character. But it is the interpretation that got ME interested in talking about her, and in turn, resonated with other people, too!
I have plenty of anxiety about this stuff, so I won't pretend that it's just easy to turn off that "what if I'm wrong, though" part of your brain, but I will say it doesn't hurt to try to start writing. You can always draft a post and come back to it, or delete/private it, or reblog it later to add more context or nuance. You aren't shackled to your opinion forever, much as the internet (and anxiety) can make it feel that way.
As to where to actually start with analysis... for me, it's almost always either a detail, a question, or both.
Here's an example of an Idea In Progress I've been thinking about.
While I was grabbing screenshots from the Nightmare chapter, I noticed that Marcille's hairstyle there is similar to one of the chapter covers I'd also just looked at:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So like, that's interesting to me! Especially since the cover was from the chapter where Marcille makes her deal with the Winged Lion. So then I can start to ask like... what does it mean that there's this similarity? I could tie it in to the way I think the Lion kind of infantilizes her, talk about what influence the Nightmare chapter might have had on Marcilles decision. Alternatively, I could ask, are there any other similar times Marcille wears this hairstyle? Any other hairstyles that are repeated at key times?
Any of which could lead to some fun analysis! Alternatively, it can also just be fun to post about the detail without the analysis. Just be like, "hey, look at this weird thing." Other people might chime in with ideas about it, or maybe it will sparks something for you later! Either way, you'll have an easy reference saved for reference. Even if deeper analysis doesn't come, it's still fun to have pointed out. Details and connections are just. They are just great. And Dunmeshi especially has SO much to dig into.
(Oh, also, quick aside here: ignore anyone who tells you the details don't matter and weren't intentional. It fully does not matter. If drawing a connection helps you realize a new meaning in the story - if it inspires and motivates you - it's worth investigating.)
Anyway, the Adventurer's Bible is also a great place to find details to jump off of. The timelines and little blurbs highlight important events or facts about the characters, and you can then go fishing for other times those things come up or are referenced in the story.
In terms of starting from a question, it can also be fun just to spend a little time with something you don't feel like you totally got. I had a great time doing that with the succubus chapter, for instance. If there's a scene you find yourself kind of skimming over because its not clicking for you... go back and try and examine it! Even if it's just a small thing - an expression you missed or a panel with a funny little joke - it can be just as rewarding to try and pay attention to the parts of the story you don't understand as it is to dig into the parts you do.
~
Really, in a lot of ways, I like to use analysis as an excuse to just spend time with a story I care about. It's a way to savor it! And if you can write up those thoughts and ideas, you can share them with others, which can be even better. A dish doesn't have to be perfectly cooked to delicious, after all. Go, with Senshi's blessing, and make good food.
And of course, as with all things creative, never forget about Two Cakes:

Hi! Excuse my anonymity, you’re super cool and I’m super anxious
I’m an artist starting out on tumblr, do you have any advice for getting my work out there to more people?
I understand if you can’t really answer, but you’re one of my favorite Tumblr artists, so i figured I would come here!
Sorry if this caused any inconvenience-
hm... i think my best advice is to be consistent(ish), confident, and to tag accurately!
people tend to respond more to posts where the creator is positive about their own work - in the post body, and in the tags. even if it's something you're not sure you like, Someone will, and they'll be more likely to interact if the work has confidence (fake it till you make it! it) this also does wonders for mental health surrounding your own work - it's been my method for a while and it's not half bad!
with tags, make sure your search tags are within the first 20 (or they won't count) and that they're accurate. people Will get annoyed / report you as spam if you tag, say, a picture of a peach with "grapes" or "will smith". but thorough accurate tagging makes sure your work is in sight of as many people searching for the subject as possible
and another thing that can help is adding on a little "reblogs are appreciated" to the post body (or the first tag, but i'd suggest the post itself so that the phrase sticks with rb-s). it's a nice, non-pushy way of enticing people to reblog - a simple phrase like that can add a little extra delight to reblogging, & it makes rb-ers feel like they've helped out! which, yk. they have!
(and to anyone reading this who doesn't really post & is new to tumblr, reblogs do wonders - they keep tumblr running and creators creating. if you like a post, why not show it by reblogging too? it only takes a second to make someone's day!)

How did you progress your Pokémon art? I’m looking to get back into drawing myself and I’ve always loved Pokémon 😁
That's awesome that you're looking to get back into drawing!
In general, I can have a very hard time staying motivating with my art. I was never a person who consistently made a lot of art for myself (as opposed to assignments for school), and I struggled with completing personal projects I started.
When I had the idea to start In-Progress Pokemon, I was able to stay motivated by (1) working on something that I enjoyed and was passionate about (2) having a very clear goal for myself and (3) involving my followers and creating a sense of community. When I started this blog, the IPP I did were based on requests from followers, which inspired and compelled me to keep going. I didn't want to let people down and it was motivating to know people were looking forward to my work.
I also found (and still find) it motivating to redo old artwork and compare them, to see how far I've grown as an artist. I find it hard to force art, so when I'm lacking general motivation or don't have much time, I usually turn to an art redo to get me working again.
There are many, many art tutorials out there that can help you if you get stuck with a certain technique or want to improve in a concentrated area. I wish you the best luck on your artistic journey!

so this might be an odd question, but how long does it take you to complete a piece of art (im thinking specifically like a chapter of ur soap/ghost/könig comic) because u put them out v frequently it feels? as an artist i create things so incredibly slowly, it feels as if i never actually get anything done, so i was wondering if u maybe had any tips for improving the speed at which u actually create stuff?
( also an obligatory “im in love with your art and your interpretations of the characters” bc its true and ur also my fave cod artist <3 )
it's funny that you ask that, since I've recently been feeling super insecure about how long it takes me to draw comics and how I don't think the quality's up to par which. goes to show how personal perception fucks with you haha
first, you should remember that art is never a race. It's always great to aspire to improve, but never beat yourself up over having to take a little longer than others. and for another thing - I'm lucky enough to be completely self employed which means that art IS my job. I have the luxury of spending literally all my time every day on this craft (which is a DREAM) but it also means i've had years of experience with making comics under my belt. I've gotten faster at it simply because I've done it for long enough.
In terms of tips...I honestly don't have much meaningful advice to help you speed up the process. If there's a section of it that takes too much time and frustrates you - consider looking up speedpaints, online tutorials and other resources that can give you a different direction. Change up your brushes! See if you can find one that just makes the lines come easier. And if you're an artist focused on people, practise your anatomy. You'll be able to bust out a pose in seconds once you're familiar enough.
edit: i just realised i didn't even answer your initial question. Usually takes me 3 days to complete a 'chapter', maybe more if it's extra long or I'm just having a couple of bad art days :P
