I've just learned something very interesting about my writing style- I write in third person limited (TPL).
and it's not even just about their thoughts and feelings, my literal style is based on what I feel their thought process would be:
This is me writing Lestrade in TPL:
He leaned forward and hit his head on the steering wheel with that last one. They were practically good friends at this point, he’d even managed to get a laugh or two out of the usually stoic man. By any means that was impressive in itself, so there must have been some kind of friendship between the two. Right? It wasn’t going to be weird, Lestrade wasn’t going to make it weird, nope.
It's conversational, simple, to the point. It's how Lestrade's demeanor is in the show
John in TPL:
He chuckled at the casualness of their interactions over the years. At first, John assumed that Sherlock was just a madman waiting for his opportunity to get away with something unscathed, but then found out that Sherlock was just curious about everything. His mind craves input and stimulation. It was rather endearing to watch him discover something new and get excited about it. More often than not, John would sit and patiently listen to him ramble about the most vague and random subjects for hours on end, and he would enjoy it.
Little details, admonishing Sherlock, admiration, romantic like John's journal entries
Sherlock in TPL:
He slowly made his way to the washroom. Not sparing a look in the mirror, he stripped the rest of the way, turned on the taps and stepped in, careful not to get his back in the steady flow of water, just like John said. The hot water felt nice, a rhythmic pattern gently massaging his aching muscles. He wet his hair and lathered his lavender honey shampoo in, soon following with conditioner in a similar scent. He finished his shower and wrapped a towel around his waist, still not looking in the mirror.
Quick, concise, detail-oriented, much like Sherlock's mind-palace scenes
Now that I have noticed this about myself, I wonder if I'm too lost in the BBC Sherlock sauce- Excuse me while I have an existential crisis about my writing.

Periodic reminder that you are not immune to reactionary radicalization through fandom.
We all know the "jokes" about how old bronies either came out as queer or became fascists - except they're not really jokes, and a lot of the queer ones admit to having been in the pipeline before they came out (some in a way that implies they never totally got out of said pipeline and don't understand the gravity of it),
GamerGate was an entire right-wing reactionary movement that was - and this is not hyperbole - partially responsible for turning fascism into a "legitimate" position by the American Overton window, composed entirely of people who feared losing their fan spaces,
We've had terfs right here on tumblr dot com BRAGGING about how useful fandom is as a recruiting space,
TJLC was a big pipeline for acephobia on this hellsite in particular, when people argued that headcanoning Sherlock as ace was inherently homophobic because it was denying a TOTALLY GONNA BE CANON (while the creators were promising that it wasn't going to be canon) gay pairing, and puritanical, and just HAVING that headcanon was saying that people COULDN'T ship Johnlock, all in the interest of a "fake" sexuality and "pretending to be oppressed" and oh whoops there you went,
We see people who all but center their fandom activity and identities around figuring out which people in predominantly queer fandom spaces are SECRETLY PEDOPHILES AND GROOMERS, acting consciously or otherwise under the assumption that predominantly queer fandom spaces are just massively infested with them in a way that other spaces are not for SOME reason, who twist the definition of "pedophilia" in these spaces until it covers shipping a 17-year old fictional character with an 18-year old fictional character, or a 30-year old with a 45-year old, or including an autistic character in a ship, and drawing two 17-year old characters kissing constitutes "child porn", and who unironically say we should bring back the Hays Code and Censorship Is Good Actually And Our Problem Is We Don't Do It Enough and this often becomes a pipeline to "sex ed is child abuse; people shouldn't even know what sex is until they turn 18; you need my consent to wear certain outfits in public if I see them as sexually charged, and Pride SHOULD be an assimilationist sideshow for our corporate overlords family-friendly party with no sadness or anger or ESPECIALLY acknowledgement of sex allowed",
We've seen otherwise progressive people defend literal hate symbols in fanart when pushback against the above brand of reactionaries gets corrupted into zero-nuance "it's us vs. them so anything they don't like is Good",
Even outside of those examples some of the most vicious, unapologetic, blatant queerphobic abuse I've seen in recent years hasn't come from right-wingers but from LGBT+ people, dressing their deep, violent, seething hatred for queer people who aren't exactly like them in a thin veneer of progressive language, who have become so convinced that they're the main character of the fucking universe that they think writing or enjoying a queer story that doesn't resonate with them is more queerphobic than sending a queer person who writes or enjoys such a story countless rape and death threats and denying their identity,
We've seen these examples again and again and again, and we keep seeing it again and again and again, so I am once again on my knees BEGGING people to recognize that this is not Something That Happens To Other, BAD People, or Something That Happens To People In BAD Fandoms, or Something That Happens To People On The OTHER Side Of Perennial Drama; this is something that CAN happen to you.
These things are the result of the fact that fandom is, by nature, a place of heightened emotion and if you don't know what to look out for that is very exploitable; you need to know the methods people use to do this, simply Being In The Right Fandoms or Liking The Right Ships is not enough.
So, if you see someone trying to convince you that you have the ONLY valid approach to any specific character, or ship, or show, or whatever, that your ship is activism and your fanfics are praxis, and liking something else or liking the same thing differently is Only For Bad People, that is the single biggest red flag that YOU NEED TO RUN, THEY'RE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT WANT

Sometimes life is continuing as usual than all of a sudden you just become unnecessarily concerned over the fact that Victorian Sherlockians never witnessed further interpretations of it.
I mean, it doesn’t make any sense, but I just think how much some of them would have wanted to see the more modern adaptations of their favourite books.
They never got to witness Jeremy Brett being one of the best Holmes, or people quite literally falling in love with the guy who they thought killed Sherlock because he was Andrew Scott and not some old guy, or when Holmes and Watson were mice, or other crazy adaptations like Sherlock meeting an alien, or just the entire concept of TJLC and the continuation/ expansion of people investigating the Great Game, or the fact that people could instantly buy the entire collection which they waited literally decades to read because you know what would in fact kill a Victorian child? The original pilot episode of BBCSherlock.
They never saw the abundance of actors portraying Holmes and Watson in many different styles and stories and settings and were never there to judge when film makers interpreted the story entirely wrong because I bet they had a better understanding than a lot of us now and did not see Holmes as sociopathic as most do now.
What they did get was their generation’s version of problematic authors, with ACD hating and abandoning his character to the point where even his own mother had to tell him to get his shit together and start writing, but they had to wait so long for even the mention of a new story, and they had to create the entire basis of the fandom, since all they had were the books. But create they did.

One more thing about "he is rude"-post
When I first watched BBC Sherlock I hardly knew anything about Sherlock Holmes. I had read four stories and watched the RDJ movies, so i didn't knew he wasn't supposed to act so rude.
Then, when I joined TJLC, I accept him being rude as a part of the narrative because I always thought it would lead somewhere. Which was a logical assumation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From a storytelling POV this is what we SHOULD have seen in season 4. Him becoming a good man. This is how it was set up, right in episode 1
Instead he kept on being rude, softer but still rude. Texting on his phone the whole time (TST), then hitting rock bottom in TLD and then being busy solving a serial killer riddle in TFP. Him becoming a good man? this narrative was long abandoned. Which is a shame because it was set up so beautiful... and then it lead nowhere

I've been seeing more and more people recently compare the current Good Omens/Our Flag Means Death/What We Do in the Shadows fandoms to the build up from the Superwholock days. and let me tell you, as someone who was just getting into fandom during the height Superwholock but was observing from outside those fandoms, i definitely see it.
similar amount of crossover within the fandom, similar types of crossposting. similar formats of engagement (response gifs, edits, and metas regularly breaching containment and being seen and engaged with by people outside the fandom) and similar intensity of theorizing and analysis. similar desire for comments and responses from writers and actors involved. I can even point out how they are analogous to each other as crossover fandoms.
good omens is the most obvious . it has the angels and demons and religious/mythological imagery of supernatural as well as the fandom engagement and irl stanning with the creators. it shares David tennant and several actors with doctor who. and you cannot look me in my face and honestly tell me that coffee theory and the similar theories don't have tjlc vibes and that the way we talk about and engage with Neil gaiman doesn't have the vibes of how sherlock fans engaged with Steven moffat and Mark gatiss if they weren't massively weird cunts to his fans and kind of homophobic.
our flag means death involves fictionalized and revised history as well as having several stories/arcs that feel like they are coming from different genres but that still fit together like doctor who. it also has the giffability and similar types of analysis for characters and relationships. it has both the capacity for mundane lines delivered so uniquely that they become deeply quotable like doctor who and lines that are so absurd that they are imminently quotable like Sherlock.
What We Do in the Shadows has the long running with a few different iterations thing that doctor who has. to a lesser degree, but still. it has the absurd dialogue and situations that Sherlock had but without the distain for its fans or weird homophobic subtext and queerbaiting. it has the wide representation of mythological and folkloric creatures and stories and consistent random out of context lore notes that supernatural had.
the most entertaining part of this is how deep we all seem to be falling into this. the depth of this crossover fandom hole definitely seems to go as deep as superwholock. I mean I've seen several friend groups that have a similar breakdown to what is going on in my house right now which is
me: has been a Tumblr kid since before the height of superwholock, escaped the curse of supernatural
roommate 1: was a supernatural fan on the Internet during the height of superwholock, escaped the curse of tumblr
roommate 3: was neither a supernatural nor a Tumblr kid but was in the Voltron Instagram fandom and has read more fanfic in total than the rest of us combined
roommate 3: has been busy playing Minecraft and Lego star wars the whole time all that mess was happening. knows nothing about fandom.
all of us right now: losing our collective shit about gay angels and pirates and vampires. at least one person in this house cries about them daily. there is at least one tortured wail echoing down the hall when someone gets a sad edit on their fyp/feed every day. we have regular in depth discussions of characters and head canons and different interpretations. we bribe each other to trade chores or do favors or let us win games by offering one shots of the other person's preference.
and I haven't seen this many people go this feral in this way since superwholock died down. and I'm having fun actually participating this time around

One could easily not watch it, but any given day on tumblr would still become a tjlc shitshow, and I say that as a longtime fan. People aren't horrified at the thought of more Sherlock but at the fandom behaviors that weren't cool to actors or other fans. Has everyone in the fandom grown past that crap? Likely some have and some haven't. I'm happy never seeing that beast woken again by new content personally
I suppose I can understand that rationale... But having lived through the worst of the tjlc period, it was bad but I got very good at unfollowing and blocking people and blacklisting terms I found obnoxious, and that worked pretty well to keep the drama off my dash.
Idk, but I love Sherlock and I would put up with an awful lot to have a little more of it. Even if it meant going on a Tumblr hiatus for a while until the mess died down.
I understand not everyone is so passionate about it, but... Well, I suppose the good news is this decision isn't up to us in the slightest! It's not like tptb are putting it to a vote or anything lol, so we'll all just have to make do with what we get, or don't.

it's time for...a dual tng/ds9 update. i'm gonna be real, i would strongly prefer to put updates for separate shows in separate posts to keep my tags/archive clean, but i tried to imagine doing that for all seven seasons of ds9 (which either run concurrently to tng or voyager) and became horrifically overwhelmed. so, unfortunately, this is the way it has to be. last night we watched tng's "ship in a bottle" and ds9's "captive pursuit."
ship in a bottle (tng):
to be totally honest, i probably would have had more nuanced thoughts on this episode if 1. i hadn't been sleep deprived out of my fucking mind and also had the Worst Day Ever 2. they didn't pronounce the name "regina" to rhyme with "vagina."
like, i'm sorry, WHO SAYS IT LIKE THIS? AND THEY KEPT SAYING IT. every time i calmed down someone would say it again, or catherine would say it again to menace me, and i'd dissolve back into hysterics. i almost couldn't follow the plot of the episode because i was laughing too hard
that said, i did glance over the transcript in the cold light of day, wherein i can (attempt to) read the name "regina" as god and the mean girls intended, and i do have a few thoughts, which are as follows
i don't think moriarty makes a good villain. i mean, it's just a sherlock holmes crossover, which i'm already a little chilly on because of those fucking tjlc people, but also, it's not...really star trek. also lmao him like "YOU FORGOT ME AND I STAYED IN A MICROCHIP FOR FOUR YEARS" and meanwhile picard is like "uh no we totally researched" dude. you didn't. we all forgot about him. please be serious
ALSO, we pulled him from season 2. they were like, "SOMEONE said 'create an opponent who can out-think data'" and they can't even say pulaski's name because that was such a cheap shitty move from a cheap shitty season. do not bring that shit forward. let it die.
the sci-fi concept of "what if this nonsentient npc became self-aware and wanted to be real" is solid, i'll give it that (and bonus points at the end for picard implying they could all be living in a simulation, WHICH THEY ARE, and there's also a theory that our world is one too), but instead of...exploring the concept at all and try to decide what the ethical thing is to do about it, they play this...cat-and-mouse inception game with moriarty instead. AND THAT COULD HAVE BEEN FUN. i was actually decently impressed when geordi caught that thing in his left hand and realized a second before they told us that they had been in the holodeck all along. tng doesn't manage to trick me often and i really enjoy it when they do! i think an episode utilizing that plot twist could have been great! but it's an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT episode than "the holodeck characters may be sentient, what are you going to do about it?"
the implications were also there in "the big goodbye," which apparently won awards even though i hated it - that guy asking if his family would be there when he got home, or if he was just gonna disappear when picard walked out the door. and of course picard walked out the door and he just ceased to exist. and that one episode with what's her name, riker's dinger lady gf. there is EVERY implication throughout this series that the holodeck characters are not only CAPABLE of becoming sentient but that they ALREADY ARE SENTIENT.
THINK ABOUT THIS A SECOND. that fake deanna with no free will of her own that barclay made specifically for him to fuck is sentient. the enemies in the klingon training scenarios. the guys in the westerns. riker's fake family. geordi's creepy holodeck sex doll gf. every background extra in the dixon hill setting. the alternate versions of riker and geordi from those episodes with recordings. the alternate version of riker on the trail where he was accused of RAPE and the victim he supposedly assaulted. ALL SENTIENT.
and instead of doing anything about this, like notifying starfleet and immediately disassembling all the holodecks and never ever making another one or AT THE VERY LEAST ceasing their use until an investigation on whether or not their use is ethical takes place. we just. put moriarty and his poorly named gf into a little cube and make a 4th wall joke. a good 4th wall joke, but still.
like, is it ethical to trap them in a holosimulation that they believe is real for the rest of their endless existence? there's no choice probably but if this is the hell they go through, if they can feel the passage of time between bouts of being solid in the holodeck, isn't it unethical to create more of them?? it is the EXACT argument made for data's personhood in season 2 - the holodeck characters exist to be therapists and entertainers and whores, and there's potentially an entire race of them in there, but it is LITERALLY PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to give them agency and lives and choices of their own. YOU HAVE TO DISASSEMBLE THE HOLODECK. or stop making these kinds of episodes.
i will say that i was so worried about this being A Barclay Episode but like he was just in it. and that was fine i guess. like he didn't do anything horrible he was just there. i can live with that...but at what cost. good fucking lord. the one time tng has a solid sci-fi premise and they totally waste it on stupid ass bullshit
oh, yeah. the two gas planets colliding in this episode to make a star was cool esp bc one of them was a jupiter knock-off. i'm pretty sure that's not how stars work but i don't know enough about it etc etc etc. compelled me anyway though.
captive pursuit (ds9):
sour note right at the beginning when this poor lady was telling sisko that quark tried to fuck her...i like quark a lot so i wish we could like retcon some of the horrible ferengi stuff cuz it really takes the wind out of my sails. but whatever
i am tosk!!! it was so cute because like he literally is tosk. but then by the end it's a bummer because he's only tosk. you know :(
i love o'brien in this episode. he called the strange alien "friend" like 3 times and then proceeded to become his number one best buddy. i was so worried when he went into the ship alone that this alien was a big meanie who would jump him but instead he just smacked his head which was pretty funny
quark acting as a therapist in this episode was really funny. he's like, tell me about your problems. and o'brien is like, thanks i'd rather die. but then he does and quark is so pleased, it was extremely funny
o'brien busting tosk out really was the only solution and very cool also. o'brien NEVER got to do stuff like this in tng. "die with honor" i love that he got the gist of it and that you could see on his face that he went from wtf to honored and touched. very sweet.
side bar but ODO DOESN'T USE PHASERS??? how does he fight...he's so fascinating to me. i want to know everything about him
surprise sisko moment at the end where he gives o'brien the business and then o'brien is like okay yeah i had that coming but like could you not have caught us. like i was so sure you were gonna catch us. what happened. and then you remember sisko is being a hardass but he literally did tell odo to walk slower. i think it's another good example of sisko threading the needle where he has to follow starfleet's rules but he knows in his heart what the right thing to do is. i like him so much
TONIGHT: tng's "aquiel" and ds9's "q-less" (GROSS what is q doing on this cool show get your tng shit outta here)

Researches for my plot/comics on Series 5
Hello dear!
I love U and hope all the best for you <3  This is my first ask to you. :) So...
I'm plotting a BBC Sherlock story that i want to transform in a graphic novel / comics:
It's canon compliant and it will be my prediction for season 5. I'm gathering metas, predictions (especially from @garkgatiss 's @afishlearningpoetry 's @coffeeteaitsallfine 's ), and I'm serching hypothesis from already written fictions creating a plausible series 5. Would you like to share your more plausible ones or your favourites ones? I'm asking also for other lovely people in here to suggest their favourites. Please help me to create my story <3 This fandom is helping me to restore my passion to make art!   Lots of love,
ketty
ps: as metas goes, I'm for tjlc.
Tumblr media
(submitted by @kettykika78)
-------
Hey Lovely!
Ah, lots of fun, LOL. Yeah, I want to write a meta-fic / comic too, but I'm lazy, LOL.
I know of three meta-fic, one of which I've read:
Sacré Coeur by Mamaorion (M, 95,235 w., 27 Ch. || S4 Fix It Rewrite, First Kiss, UST / RST, Eventual Happy Ending, Coming Out, Holmes Family, Marriage Proposal, Husbands, Healing, Evil Mary, Beekeeping, Caretaker Sherlock, Mind Palace, Alzheimer’s Disease, Protective / Big Brother Mycroft, TD-12) – In this s4 fixit, John must piece together the gaps in his altered memory if he and Sherlock are to face the terror that has plagued Sherlock since childhood. As they untangle the web, seven years of hidden love ignite.
From a Drop of Water by victorianpining (M, 95,900 w.,12 w. || Post-TAB / S4 Fix-It Fic, Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, Friends to Lovers, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Case Fic, Implied/Referenced Drug Use, Canon-Typical Violence, Villain Character Death, Angst With Happy Ending) – Sherlock is certain that James Moriarty is dead and he already has a theory for the person behind his apparent return. Considering Sherlock was overdosing at the time, it's only to be expected that he overlooked a few details in coming to his conclusions. John meanwhile has moved back in with Mary after reconciling with her at Christmas, but finds himself agonising over why Sherlock would have thrown away everything he cares about to keep her safe. Could Sherlock be in love? (TRANSLATIONS: 中文-普通话國語)
The Lost Special: Family Matters (As Do Relationships)  by ShirleyCarlton (M, 144,688 w., 40 Ch. || S4 Fix It Fic / Meta Fic, Unreliable Narrator, John’s Mind Bungalow, Friends to Lovers, Happy Ending, Demisexual Sherlock, Holmes Family, John Whump, Gay Mycroft, Misunderstandings, Drug Addiction, Parenting, TFP is a Nightmare, Virgin Sherlock, Slow Burn, Minor Character Death, Switchlock, John’s Past, Sherlock’s Past, Eurus, Love Confessions) –Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.
------
As for theories and such, I have a tonne of my own and a link or two to others' posts:
Sherlock S4 Meta list (Apr 8/22) [Not Mine, contains a lot of the theories going around currently]
Post S4 Meta Masterpost (August 2018) (mine)
S5 Posts (Masterlist Apr 2020) [Mine]
Blog Theory / Unreliable Narrator / John’s Alibi Mini Masterpost (Dec 2017) [This theory is the one I stand by the most]
John's TAB Masterpost (May 2017) [This theory as well]
My PERSONAL Problems with E/M/P (Dec 2020)
What would You like to see in S5? (June 2021)
Janine is a Moriarty
Twin Series Theory [I actually still lowkey believe this one; it's the theory that a "twin series" was filmed at the same time as S4, and will reveal what really happened in S4. Though as time goes on, this is less plausible, since if it was already filmed, they would have released it by now]
My "Secret Episode" ficlet [for a LONG time as a coping mechanism, the fandom believed there was a secret 4th episode. This was my contribution to that and is the basis of my own meta-fic I want to write]
Hope this helps a bit :)
Feel free to add your own, friends, to help Ketty in their research!

People when they are introduced to a complex situation and character struggle: 'No it must be because of a coffee affecting them and pure manipulation'. Literally, where is the interesting part of this? Fandoms' insistency on reducing something to make it more palatable and more underwhelming can be so annoying.
It's because boring, underwhelming characters are easy to self insert. At the end of the day a lot of fanfiction is just self insertion without the name, that's why everyone is obsessed with harassing NG to confirm this and this headcanon of theirs. Fanon becomes more important than canon now even when the canon is actually good and written by a competent writer who has a lot more patience than anyone else would in his position (certainly not me, I am against creators interacting with fandom).
Fanon!Aziraphale is the perfect cinnamon roll that totally never said insensitive shit to Crowley and totally has no conflict between his loyalty to Heaven/God. Fanon!Crowley is both a the same time a brooding, dark demon that is totally capable of the worst evil (those Duke of Hell theories) but also has no life outside Aziraphale. Fanon!God is totally a shipper and not an Eldrich Abomination that doesn't give a fuck about the suffering she caused to her creations to set up her games.
So all of this was contradicted this season. Aziraphale is still conflicted (as he was in Season 1, which wasn't entirely resolved), Crowley has bounderies and God is an arsehole.
Fandom is about delusion to fix perfect little boxes since the early 2010s lol. Every time I see the Sherlock fandom mentioned as if they were victims against the evil, evil writers I remember I was also there and I have a completely different picture of how those people were around other fans (ie. Aggressive, deluded and cultish, especially if you were of the few that didn't see any romance or romantic chemistry between the leads), and a lot of the GO fandom just goes for the same patterns, maybe because a lot of people come from there. A lot of the theories give me TJLC flashbacks and no, not in the 'good way' because there wasn't a good way on that, it was all bonkers. More in the 'I won't accept my fanfic is not airing' way. That insane Magic Trick Google Doc with the insulting 'praising' language, the coffee/lie/whatever theory just being lazy ways to make Aziraphale into the most boring character in the show, like... I actually believed that, since this is a show done by one of the few English speaking writers I actually respect and that the fandom is not as rabid as others I have been, the readings would be, I don't know, different? Interesting?
But never mind, all the fandoms are the same and go in the same patterns. Especially when shipping is involved.

i've been watching the winchesters since the start but without really caring about it online... well today i went into the tag out of sheer curiosity to see what the tumblrinas were saying about it and pretty much all i saw besides gifs was stuff about destiel and people complaining about plot inconsistencies. sigh. I was not only reminded of why I don't check tags very often but also of the good old tjlc days with this stuff,,, and people doing the same in the star trek snw fandom. anyway, I like the show, I love carlos & lata & ada, and since I remember almost none of spn because I've only seen it once as it aired, I have no idea what it's getting wrong and therefore I'm not only enjoying it but like it more. it has light. it has cool 70s outfits. it has interesting characters. they're besties, they're a family, they're a polycule, take your pick. it's funny how it parallels spn with the missing dad plot actually!! and just because john isn't a total arsehole now it doesn't mean he can't become one over time :) I'd love to see it yknow <3

listen listen listen ok hello BIG bkdk shipper here but like.... I definitely don't want to be caught in a TJLC situation if, when the last chapter of bnha comes, out bkdk isn't explicitly canon. I don't want to let myself have so much hope that I become convinced that there's a 'secret good last chapter' where Bakugou gets down on one knee or something. But the fact that Horikoshi has had LGBTQ+ characters in his work (with not the most amazing variety of representation, mind you, but not jokingly, which is, as far as I know, very rare for Shounen), paired with the fact that I genuinely think that Bakugou and Deku have more written chemistry and development than the supposed 'canon' ships like izuocha, I think that we at least have a chance, and it makes me both excited and scared for when the series finishes (however far in the future that may be).

I escaped tjlc hell 4.5 years ago, and I entirely blame you and gregle for pulling me back in. As an adult with a mortgage, I don't have time to revert to my life-consuming, teenage obsession over a show that I worry may never come back or will remain just queerbaiting even if it does return. I should fight it, but it is a desirable, inescapable death of my sanity. What has my life become?
I don't mean to speak out of turn but this show is more important than your mortgage, always remember that <3
@greglestrade i just got a message from one of our victims

ok after a lot of toil and trouble i was able to get through the sarah zee video. here are some take aways (it’s 5 am and i got a migraine doing this so not exactly coherent):
not as mean spirited as it could have been, still comes off condescending
a lot of info omitted. no mention of eileen, or m&g where jackles said parts of his reaction were cut
no discussion of how cast & crew have confirmed in the past that touchy-feely scenes with dean and cas were, essentially, censored
irrelevant info like britta lundin getting to be a writer on riverdale bc jackles was homophobic once
she keeps cheekily bringing up the way people “blamed her for destiel happening” and it’s annoying. similarly she credits herself with “bringing tjlc back to life”
early becky is discussed but season 15 reformed becky (and her implications) not mentioned at all
she took the jackles longcon powerpoint laughably seriously
her take on the spanish dub is it was some kind of poetic license on the part of the translator, based on her knowledge of anime dubbing (a completely different language and cultural barrier).
like her example is that in japanese dubs, casual “i love you” isn’t directly translated for cultural reasons. but what’s the cultural reason for bisexual spanish dean? are latin americans more likely to reciprocate love confessions??????
she seems to think the editing of The Scene is normal and not bad which.... cannot relate but alright... she doesn’t mention the way jackles falls in the wrong direction lol
portrays fans as either Ironic And Memeing (correct) or Into Absurd Conspiracy Theories (pitiable); possibilities are binary. i.e. either misha is 100% telling the full truth about there being a “rogue translator” or he is 100% lying and there are coded messages in the tweet thread (no one thinks this??)
similarly, it’s always “there’s a secret destiel episode” and never “there’s a previous draft or deleted take where dean did something to indicate reciprocation.” pretty transparently cherry picking the most out-there theories such that the narrative becomes about Fans Gone Wild
(seriously she will not shut up about how tumblr EXPLODED and everyone went CRAZY)
excessive use of the word “conspiracy” to describe HIGHLY plausible possibilities that would not require any conspiracy at all and likely happen on network shows all the time; i.e., the theory that the cw said “we have decided not to let you do destiel” and then the writers weren’t allowed to do it is considered a “conspiracy theory”
just always finding the most extreme angle to present even if it doesn’t fully reflect what most people are saying or what the hashtags are about
i kept shouting in the voice chat “NO ONE THINKS THAT. MAYBE THREE CRAZY PEOPLE THINK THAT”
very little discussion of the hashtag movements beyond that fans are mad bc they (implied falsely) believe there was censorship—ignores the million other grievances being brought up
ethically dubious use of people’s posts and memes in a monetized product; a significant proportion of the video is showing other people’s reactions and it feels exploitative and zoo-like. some of it is out of context. afaik no one with posts in the video agreed to be in it. she’s not actively poking fun but it comes off as punching down
OH ALSO. she describes jack as “half demon” which made wanna rend my garments because him being half ARCHANGEL is a HUGE PLOT POINT and GOD SHE REALLY DIDNT WATCH DABB ERA HUH

Do you still think there is a chance Rin isn’t the mom?
Sadly no, not after episode 15. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The writers of this show don't have the ability to pull off something as complex as a bait-and-switch. The writers of Yashahime couldn't write their way out of a paper bag in my opinion.
I guess that's a little uncharitable though. To be fair, we all know this show was slapped together as fast as possible. The Tyquira DT video on HNY mentions the large number of writers it has, and the fact that this sequel was very likely put together very fast, (an opinion I actually have too. Just because a show or movie might have "been in production" for a certain period of time, does not mean that it was actually being worked on that entire time. A movie or show goes "into production" as soon as it's greenlit, but any portion of that time "in production" can actually be spent in the pre-production period where the studio is waiting for writers, directors, or actors to become available to work on the project, or while they are waiting for funds, materials, etc.)
So we can make a reasonable assumption that if the writers for the first season were given very little to work with, in a very short amount of time, then that's going to go double for season two.
I'm predicting that the plot holes, confused direction, wonky pace, poor character development, and overall bad quality of the second season is going to be just as bad as the first season, if not worse.
The amount of care that Sunrise has put into this sequel proves to me that it was in fact nothing but a quick, cheap cash-grab from the start. (Personally, I don't know why I was ever surprised, they straight up said in one of the interviews from the start that the reason they made it was because there was still such a big market for it...) And considering that Sunrise has already alienated a majority of the fanbase by now, the only people still willing to spend money on it are the shippers, so I doubt Sunrise is going to burn them at this point in the game.
~THIS IS WHY YASHAHIME ISN'T CANON IN MY OPINION AND NEVER WILL BE~
That being said however, if some people still want to believe that Rin is a red herring, all power to them. Theory building in fandom is fun, and I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade. I think that those who are still hoping for a different mother reveal are valid.
AND I'm seriously loving all the Mom!Kagura content, Yashahime re-write fix-it fics, and other content that fans are putting out there.
If I may though just give a few pieces of advice for people to keep in mind while they work on making the best out of this terrible sequel:
Don't hope for a different mom reveal just so you can rub it in the shippers faces. Like I said it's unlikely Sunrise will burn the people rabidly shoving money at them because they now feel validated. I KNOW it's something we hope for because we all want to see karma come due for them. They have been horrible this whole time, and if any fanbase deserves it, it's them, but at the end of the day, it's unlikely to happen. (Honestly, the best karma to hope for in all this is HNY crashing and burning because support from the shippers alone isn't going to keep this show afloat.)
Conversely don't listen to the shippers input about your theories. I cannot stress this enough, but FUCK 'EM! Who gives a rat's ass what the shippers think? This isn't about them, this is about the rest of the fandom trying to salvage something that's negatively impacted a beloved story.
Don't become the next TJLC! If Yashahime ends/is canceled and there never is a different mom reveal, don't twist yourself into knots hoping for some secret episode drop, or extra content that will give you what you want. This is fandom baby, YOU make the content you want for your own experience.
And finally, if you don't like what you've seen in HNY so far, stop supporting it with your views and money. Even if you are still holding onto hope that Rin isn't the mother, continuing to support the show financially will not send that message to Sunrise. I'm LIVING on the fact that viewership dropped severely after episode 15. And if Sunrise DOES by some miracle decide to reveal a different mother, it would be equally impactful if viewership only went back up after such a reveal. But in the meantime, if you still want to look out for that plot twist, pirate the shit out of this show.

ok I just read the yellow face for the first time (yikes @ the title and some stuff in it obviously) but oh my god there was So Much in there, generally but especially in regards to bbc sherlock/tjlc, there's got to me a lot of meta around it right? do you have written any or can you recommend any? thanks!
Hi anon! Oh boy, if there are any stories you still haven't read, get ready for a lot more of this. There isn't a lot of meta on Sherlock and The Yellow Face; I know of one, by the incomparable darlingtonsubstitution, who is unfortunately no longer on tumblr. I'll reblog it after I post this, but of course, anything under a cut is inaccessible now. As she pointed out, this story has connections to TBB and MHR, and of course there are also links to TAB and TST.
I haven't written any meta on The Yellow Face myself yet, but I would like to eventually, linking it with a few other stories. So, I will keep some of my secrets, but am interested in reading whatever you write; please tag me! As you say, and as darlington also said, this can be a difficult story to discuss for game-playing purposes because of its race and gender issues. This becomes even more complicated by the fact that Doyle was usually telling a story beneath the surface.

6, 13, 18?
HI BESTIE ty for asking sorry i didnt do it last night I Went To Bed. lets fuckin go
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
well, look, the obvious answer would be those j*hnlock truthers, and i do hope those tjlc people are having a wretched day rn wherever they are, but ACTUALLY im actually choosing atla for this just to say (sorry) i hate zu//kka SO MUCH. i hate it so much, it's unreal. i don't particularly have beef with the shippers necessarily but i think the concept is so fucking lame. it's a classic case of migratory slash fandom paired with a side of misogyny. the thought process goes like "zuko is rotting holes in my brain > want to ship him with someone > i don't want to ship him with a female character > the only one left is sokka." (even though suki is right there.) aang is out on the basis of being a baby and the rest of the gaang is girls. if you don't like zutara that's fine, but sokka/zuko is the SAME THING with less anger issues and less women. katara is kind of a devisive character to begin with (this is misogyny) but then one time i saw someone deride zutara for being "straight" to reason why shipping zuko with sokka was superior and i have never forgiven it. IT'S THE SAME SHIP. like HOW was this popular enough to PIT ZUKO/SOKKA/SUKI IN THE OT3 SEMIFINAL POLL? hello?? what were they doing there?? suki and zuko speak TWO LINES to one another! god! i guess that's better than using your ship to excuse hating suki but jesus christ it's so transparent just say you hate women and go
13. worst blorboficiation
i'm not doing this one or your other one for spn bc someone else sent in these exact numbers so i am choosing teen wolf. what im gonna say is so controversial but it's actually peter hale and it's not even fanon that did this IT'S CANON. i used to be a big peter fan and then it got completely ruined. ok so peter's whole thing, right, is that he's a deeply horrible person and that kate argent burned every molecule of humanity out of him during the hale fire. okay, got it. fuck yeah. that's rad. SO WHY THEN. IN THE SEASON 3 FLASHBACK EPISODE. WAS HE ACTING EXACTLY THE SAME AS HE DID AS AN ADULT. and this was the one thing that fanon was getting RIGHT. pre-fire versions of peter in fic were wildly different to post-fire versions BECAUSE THAT WAS THE IMPLICATION. peter works perfectly as a villain because his actions are reprehensible but his motives are justified which makes him COMPLEX and with one episode they RUINED IT. it speaks to a larger problem of jeff davis backtracking a lot of stuff that was said or implied in season 1 (such as kate preying on derek when he was underage) for censorship or what the fuck ever. now whenever i see peter in anything the only thing i wanna do is roll my eyes. they made him like him for ten whole minutes in 6A and that was the best it ever got again. sorry to peter hale fans.
18. it’s absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…
i won't list my teenwolf rarepair here, but that. oh, wait, actually, my ff13 rarepair. fang & lightning are WAY BETTER than fang & vanille. this on the basis of 1. hot. that section where you can do double commando. sexy. 2. everyone keeps calling vanille a kid and it weirds me out to ship her with someone who calls her that/thinks of her that way 3. lightning/fang is sort of the same dynamic as lightning/snow which i love in a NONROMANTIC way in that lightning is the straight man, very stoic, and fang is so flippant and casual about everything and so open with her emotions that it gets on her nerves until it becomes endearing. and theyre both quite In Charge generally so when lightning is like well every monster is one step closer to rescuing vanille they keep each other going in that same way, out of sheer stubbornness. anyway 10/10 ship dynamic i completely understand and respect fang/vanille fans but i wish fang/lightning got the same amt of attention
[ASK MEME]
