favorite mistake
myoui mina x fem!reader
summary: you've got a tough shell and mina seems to be the reason you make your way out of it.
wc: 2.4k
warnings: blood ; bruises ; cursing ; injuries idk : rushed and not proofread well
Tumblr media
a/n: small drabble. I hope you guys like it (idk if I like it myself :-[ )
//
mistakes are a common part of life; especially yours.
you've made a lot of mistakes, but there are three significant mistakes that made who you are today.
mistake 1: leaving your so-called "home" at 17 with barely any money or plans.
mistake 2: picking up boxing gloves
mistake 3: meeting myoui mina.
-
your friends often compared you to that stupid mario character bowser, jeongyeon says you're "all mighty and strong" but in the inside you're a "softy," you remember the constant snickers and snorts from when you went to watch that stupid kids movie wtih her.
jeonyeon has been by your side ever since you made your first mistake, and the second – but she's the reason you made your third one.
you remember it so clearly, every single second and detail of that moment. the night of your biggest mistake.
-
there's a knock at your door. your head is spinning and you don't want to get up.
when you turn at the silver doorknob theres a woman wearing a brown coat, her face catches you off guard. her features are so delicate, and her eyes are honey-like and sweet looking.
"you are?" you greet, though it's a bit uninviting.
"where's jeongyeon."
"she's out."
"oh, i see."
you two have a five-second staring competition, and it's enough time for you to notice the beauty mark on her nose and above her lip. you don't know who this woman is, but she's truly captivating and you feel a little soft under her gaze.
she looks up at you, you're a few inches taller and your sharp features are like daggers that point at her. she notices the various bandaids that are scattered all over your face: there are bandaids on your lip, eyebrow, nose, and upper cheek.
"are you okay?" she asks you. the woman sounds just barely concerned, even if her question sounds more like a comment.
your jaw tenses and you look her up and down, the hand that rests against the door frame starts to tighten around it.
"hope you work it out with jeongyeon." you mutter coldly, closing the door and returning to where you were and what you were doing: sulking and pondering on the couch. drowning yourself in a bittersweet comfort, something so temporary.
the door opens ten minutes later; the voice that scolds you is familiar. you groan in annoyance.
"y/n, where are your damn manners?" jeongyeon complains. you sit up slowly, propping yourself up with your sore arms, jeongyeon curses you out a little more. "you can't just be so rude to everyone, you know? have some fucking manners for fucks sake."
when you look over to see the woman you share the apartment with, there's another woman that stands with her: the same one you had closed the door on. you roll your eyes and pull the blanket over your body, closing your eyes again.
jeongyeon grumbles once more. "I'm sorry mina, she's probably just tired and grumpy."
"that's your roommate? i've never seen her around." the woman's voice is soft and inviting, it's really different from the usual aggressive and aggravating tones you're always hearing and you fucking hate it. it's too different from what you're used to.
"she doesn't go to the university," jeongyeon explains, "she just lives with me."
"oh, I see."
"just leave her be, don't let her ruin your mood. how about we work on that project?"
the girl hums.
mina you think. what a pretty name.
-
mina walks out of jeongyeon's room to see you in the kitchen. the white tank top hugged your figure nicely, and the toned muscles in your upper back were emphasized under the dimmed light. mina took note of how broad your back was, though your waist was slimmer; your body was extremely built, and very athletic. it seemed like you worked out often. the bandages on your tricep and forearm also made it seem like you were one to get violent.
most would be wary of you just from one look. though, mina is anything but frightened or intimidated.
your hair falls in a loose, disheveled fashion, it seemed like you had just woken up. it made you seem more approachable. there's a soft melody that plays, the mood of the setting is different now. you seem more inviting, less hostile as you crack an egg into the bowl.
"you're not slick," you mutter. mina's gaze was fixated on you, it paranoid you, you didn't have to turn around to realize the dark-haired woman was there.
"i wasn't trying to be," she responds with a monotone voice. your jaw tenses and you turn your head so you can see her from the side of your eye.
"did you need something?" you ask, though there's a hint of annoyance laced in your words. it's uninviting.
"jeongyeon told me to grab water." mina says, and it's surprising how calm she is, you think.
"cups are in the cabinet to the left of me," you murmur. mina hums.
there's no other noise other than the sound of the cups shifting from their original spot, the whisking of the eggs in your bowl, and the sound of water filling the cups. mina leaves and you two don't exchange any more words.
you lean against the counter as you watch her leave. there's a string that's trying to pull the two of you together – you don't let it tug at you so easily.
-
mina's visits become more frequent.
the bandages on your arms disappear, but now some bruises and scars are unveiled under the cloth. mina is so incredibly curious, (and, slightly worried for someone who's been such an ass to her for as long as she's known them). she doesn't know why and it bothers the young woman.
there seems to be a new bruise every time mina comes over, she decides to pester jeongyeon – she doesn't budge – says it's not her business; mina's interest grows.
you two meet in the kitchen again, and you always tend to have such silent moments with each other in that small kitchen; the tension in the air isn't unnoticed, ever.
mina is the first to mutter something on some wednesday afternoon. "if you add ice, it helps the bruises."
you turn to face her and mumble under your breath, "thanks for the tip."
"are you clumsy or...?"
"I don't think that's a question you should ask a stranger."
"well, it bothers me that you're always so hurt when i'm over."
"it shouldn't bother you at all."
"i know." mina breathes. "I wish it didn't."
you feel your heart skip a beat a little, it shatters slightly at the same time upon hearing her response.
-
jeongyeon invites you out and you decline the offer. jeongyeon mentions mina and you pretend to be bothered. you let your roommate drag you out for dinner, and you seem to be stuck to mina's side the whole night.
you're a flower that slowly blooms when she happens to be near.
mina changes something in you, and you hate change.
-
the heart that beats in your chest is rarely warm, almost always cold unless jeongyeon seems to make you chuckle every now and then.
your heart seems to have been cold since you've been alive, and sure there were times when there had been small sparks – though, never enough to warm you up.
mina seems to change that.
mina's attentiveness is something new to you, so is her unique presence. she seems to ignite a sudden tranquility into any room she's in, she makes you feel content even when you're all over the place, when your mind is running too far and too fast that you can't catch up. mina grounds you.
myoui mina makes your chest feel all warm, she gives you goosebumps when she accidentally makes contact with you – she's the only person you're able to have physical contact with, at least without hurting them.
your petals are forming, you're in bloom.
-
maybe it was when she had suddenly bandaged a terribly wrapped cut, or when she had complimented your eyes. maybe it was when she had first met you, or when your first conversation happened. maybe it was when she managed to pull a simple fact about yourself from you, or maybe it was the first brush of your hands against each other, even if it was an accident.
there's no definite start or initiating event to what blooms between the two of you, it just happens naturally, and everything that led to it and what started it was too subtle to ever notice.
you start to care for this woman, and she seems to care about you.
how could she care for someone who's so wreckless and violent?
-
mina's hands are soft, they're delicate, and they're perfect just as she is.
they're so soft against your skin, so soft when her knuckles graze against your scratched cheek and make you feel all warm in the chest. they're perfect in your hand, so grounding it scares you, and her fingers intertwine so well with yours it's unbelievable.
it's unbelievable because your hands, in contrast, are so terribly rough. they're so messed up you think that they don't deserve to hold the delicate hands of mina.
your knuckles are scratched and beat up, your palms have noticeable calluses, and the back of your hand is bruised. your hands punch and distress, mina's hands are ones that love and cherish.
-
you've never been so terrified up until now. nothing has ever made your heart drop as quickly as the three words that mina says so gently, not even the time you had broken your arm or rib. it's so strange how three words scare you more than injuries that could've ruined your life.
"y/n." mina mumbles.
you hum softly.
mina lays down next to you, and the only thing that had been heard other than the chirping of crickets or the wind was her steady breaths as she lay there. the sore feeling in your whole body had been erased as soon as you let yourself relax next to her, shoulders making contact and and hands brushing against each other. the only thing that had illuminated the quiet, warm room was the moonlight that spilled through the blinds.
mina's words are barely above a whisper,
"I love you."
your breath catches.
...
"you don't have to say it back." mina mutters, "you're not obligated to."
there's no response from you, only silence. mina figured this would happen.
your hands find her way into hers, but still no response. you're terrified.
-
two weeks pass by after the words had been said, and you still haven't said them back.
-
two weeks after that – a month – you stumble into the apartment with your head spinning, shoulders sunk, and a new bruise on your back. mina runs up to you, her brows are furrowed, and her heartbeat spikes.
she makes you sit down on her gray couch, she doesn't ask what happened.
mina had already known about your little "career," you fought people for money and it was as simple as that. sometimes you'd win, the bets would go into your bank account and you'd be less paranoid or tired. sometimes you'd lose and it seemed like you lost all hope.
"im sorry." you say, though you don't look at her at all while saying that. mina sighs and shakes her head.
"it's okay, where are you hurt?"
"i think my back is bleeding," you respond, and the way mina's jaw tenses and brows crease aren't unnoticeable.
your shirt is off, leaving you only in your bra and black sweatpants. mina looks at the cut you had received from a harsh hit, you don't even know how it made you bleed. she wipes off the blood and works away at the injury carefully. mina tries to ignore the low groans and sharp breaths that escape your lips, though it's harder to ignore them this time.
"mina," you start.
"hm?"
"i'm not going to box anymore. I won't fight," you murmur, though it's more of a harsh, low groan since you wince at the way mina bandages you while you say it. mina sits down next to you after finishing up, she looks at you with the softest gaze, tilting her head.
"why?
...
"because," you begin. the eyes that peer into yours are curious, waiting for an answer.
"i love you."
the way it rolls off your tongue feels perfect, it feels right and it's like a two-hundred-pound weight had been hurled off your chest. the confession is quiet, soft, and it's so genuine.
"you don't have to quit for me y/n-"
"I want to be with you. I don't want to hurt anyone or myself anymore, I don't want to hurt you." you explain, "I already found a solution to not making money too, i'm done with fighting. I'm done."
mina takes a moment to process the words and she immediately kisses you – it takes you by surprise.
you've never shared a kiss with her, even though you've exchanged your "i love you's," maybe it is the right time, you think.
her lips are so soft against yours, you're now a fully bloomed flower as her hand gently cups your face and your nose inhales her floral scent. you can't get enough of her, everything feels perfect.
she's your favorite mistake.
she's not a mistake because you regret meeting her; she's your biggest mistake because she made you feel, she made you feel alive. it's so strange, it's so different – it feels like a mistake because you feel as if you don't deserve this woman – you can't help but wonder if she really is set on loving you. she made you open up, and now you're going out of your way to let her care for you, you're becoming a burden and you wish you could go back and prevent that from happening.
you don't want mina to handle all of you, to carry all of your problems.
even as you two grow to love each other, even as you let yourself unwind and improve, even as you continue to kiss her and love her.
you'll still carry the burden of being her biggest mistake. maybe that could be bad an good, though, that feeling of guilt will always stay in your chest.
always.

One day we're gonna talk about how fanfiction writers literally leave out trans women 100% from their writing.
That day is TODAY
Fanfiction, Cis-sexism, and the Erasure of Trans Women in fandom spaces -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ex'scuuuusseee me - I got something to say.
They say 'I can't write ftm because I don't write for men'-
Okay but you write for women though. You write for women yet all your readers in your smut are explicitly cis women.
Fanfiction writers know that writing a trans women as a fem!reader would alienate their cis audiences and they know labeling it as m*le!reader is literally transphobic so instead they just don't include trans women at all.
I don't think I've seen a single fic of Hobie with a trans woman. I knoooww for a fact I've never read about Miguel with a trans woman.
The fact there's no romantic fic of Hobie with a black trans!woman speaks VOLUMES considering he's a character known for sheltering a young trans girl.
But him being portrayed dating a trans woman his age - 🤷🏾 *crickets*
HELL IMMA TAKE IT THERE - I haven't even seen MILES X GWEN where he acknowledges her being trans, or validates her identity, or helps her with dysphoria.
GWEN - the character heavily implied to be trans.
If it's in a romantic context - poof! That goes out the door. They're written as a cis4cis couple and Gwen never has dysphoria or talks about being trans ever.
We all call ourselves trans allies and big up Gwen but ask someone to write a trans-fem!reader being romanced or assured and waaaiittt a minute now that's a different story-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay. Okay cool coo nice talk
I've read a lot of fem!reader fluff but have never seen a fem!fic outright say she's trans, or feeling dysphoria, or transitioning or anything.
I read a lot of fem!reader smut but never seen a fem!fic outright say she has a dick.
Cause y'all will write x-reader - not tag the gender - and just assume every reader will be a cis woman and if they aren't they're met with open hostility or outright ignored.
The fact that mtf women are completely left out of fanfiction - especially in x-reader - is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cis-sexism in x-reader smut.
Yeah, you only write for women. WHICH women though? 🤨 Or do you think you really write for all women and think that trans women aren't apart of that?
Tumblr media
'I can't write trans men, I don't write men' - Okay but you write women so you have no excuse to not write trans women other than 'I don't care for them' or 'I don't wanna do the research' or 'writing bodies that aren't cis makes me uncomfortable because that's all I've ever been conditioned to see as worthy of praise and sex in a normal loving context'
You're not slick. I see the behavior. Cease it at once. Romanticize all women in your writing. TRANS women too

I know about the origins of the Bechdel Test, but I do think it's inaccurate to say it's not meant as a criticism of movies that don't do that. I think that when people stop thinking in binary terms of "is this feminist?" or "is this anti-feminist?" and instead look at things more holistically, that you can recognize both that a character like Mako Mori is great, a step in the right direction for female characters in action movies and especially WOC, go forth and stan her and write all the fanfic you want.... but yeah, it is also a valid criticism of the movie (and many others like it) that she doesn't talk to or have relationships with any other woman in the film.
I think one thing to help people realize just HOW much of women's lives are being left out of media representation when we never talk to other named women about something other than a man in movies, is to just think about your own life. I talk to my mom every day, and if we are not talking about my stepdad or my brother-in-law (and I don't think we've ever had a conversation that wasn't at least IN PART not about them or another man), then it passes the test. I'm a professor and when I talk to a female student about her homework or project (which is, again, something that happens pretty much every day I teach), that's passing the test. If I order food from a female cashier and she has a name tag, that's passing the Bechdel Test! It's literally just constant for the vast majority of women on the planet, and that's what's being left out of our stories.
Like, I like the takes I've seen about how part of the joke in Dykes to Watch Out For is that this is *particularly* alienating to lesbians - as a lesbian myself I agree - but I also think it should be frustrating to straight and bi and ace women as well, because like unless you are like exclusively interacting with your husband or male relatives every single day + you work in a workplace where you are literally the only woman, you are almost certainly passing the test constantly. That's a pretty big part of women's lives that Hollywood is leaving out!
But I think it's important to view it as just one piece of the discussion about feminism and women's representation in film, not the final judge on if a film is feminist or not. Which it wasn't intended to be - as you said, it was mostly a joke on the extreme maleness of 80s action movies. Honestly, I do not miss those days on Tumblr where people were obsessed with declaring certain movies/TV shows/other fandoms they liked as "feminist" or "anti-feminist" and the really bizarre granular discussions people would have between two works that BOTH had a long way to go in terms of representing women. I remember people in the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom would use this to argue about if the original anime or Brotherhood/the manga was better - when both have some fantastic female supporting characters, but are ultimately male-centered stories where even a lot of those women's lives and stories are centered around their male love interests and family members. It's better than a lot of shounen, but if that's your bar for feminism - either version - you have a long way to go (and need to watch WAY more anime because there's sooooo much of it that is female-centric). I also remember people coming up with other tests that were blatantly silly: like I thought the Mako Mori test about "if a woman has a motivation/story that isn't centered on a man" was fair because it did point out a legitimate criticism, but there was that ridiculous "Tauriel Test" where it was "a woman who is good at her job." And it was entirely about someone just disliking that movie critics and feminist commentators alike were down on the Hobbit movie trilogy, which a) were bad movies, sorry you have bad taste, b) are absolutely not where you should focus your attention if you're so concerned about women's representation in film, Tolkein has always been a sausage fest! And her big thing was being mad that people thought Judi Dench's M in Skyfall was a better female character, and so she arbitrarily decided she was "bad at her job" and Tauriel was "good at her job" even though that's completely subjective and can be challenged in both cases.... but also, once again, why are you looking to the fucking JAMES BOND franchise for movie feminism! There's nothing like comparing the relative "feminism levels" of JAMES BOND and LOTR to make it obvious that this is 100% about validating your subjective taste preferences by giving it a "progressive" excuse, not actually about feminism and not actually caring about women's representation beyond how it makes you look good. And yet SO many people took that transparently stupid post seriously. I'd see professional articles mention the Tauriel Test as "one of the new tests" like there was anything serious about it.
And then on the flip side, over-reliance on the Bechdel Test alone led to some clueless conclusions especially in anime fandom, given that anime has an abundance of shows that exclusively feature female characters in school clubs being cute, where those characters are nonetheless two-dimensional archetypes designed for the male gaze. Someone like fandomsandfeminism did a presentation at an anime con that called one of those types of shows "feminist" and some Japanese user eviscerated it, but that just led to the equally shallow fandom analysis of "everything a Japanese person says about anime is automatically more valid" and "any Westerner who wants to criticize anime on feminist/progressive grounds is culturally appropriating and ultimately coming from a place of ignorance, even if they literally have a degree in Asian studies."
Wow, this turned into a rant about the history of bad "feminist media criticism" on this website. Sorry about that, I think I had a point in here somewhere. I guess that the Bechdel Test is indeed a joke and those origins should be understood, but also, I don't think it's wrong to say that it identifies a real problem and one that people could probably take MORE seriously than they do - but as just one part of the conversation, not the Feminism Litmus Test, and certainly not as a dick-measuring contest about whose fandom gets them more progressive brownie points.
--
I think as long as we grasp that the joke is "The bar is so far under the ground that we might as well go home and eat popcorn there", it's fine.
The real issue with the test is that people started thinking a pass was meaningful.
If you say something like "X% of 2020s movies can't even manage this weaksauce level of women existing", that's a meaningful statistic. Even if you got a couple of data points wrong, you're not factually wrong enough for it to matter because X is going to be some massive, massive percentage, and the overall trend is so clear.
But a pass is nothing to celebrate, and that's where we went wrong.
Like you say, litigating which of two big franchises that barely do anything with women wins on tumblr points is idiocy.
I think people are so unaware of what media that genuinely centers women even looks like that it's hard for them to even begin having a discussion.
I personally have been a massive fujoshi type from adolescence, and media that centers female characters isn't actually what I typically want. (Though media that is by and for women and that doesn't give a fuck what men think of this is.) I am also not much of a fan of slice of life in general...
But when I was coming out and figuring my shit out, being able to go buy collections of Dykes to Watch Out For was incredibly valuable to me.
Ditto the other lesbian comic books that were just sitting there in the bookstore. I'm sure if I went back and reread them all now, I could find things to nitpick or ways they were more for lesbians and less for me as a bi girl, but the really distinctive thing they did was let me exist in a world where media isn't all 80s sausagefest action movies where women are not people.
In fact, they were a world where men don't matter terribly much—not because they're dramatically rejecting men in some facile and reactionary way but because... who cares? They just had other priorities... and this was normal.
It feels like people who've never taken a vacation from really mainstream media just have no concept of what it would feel like to exist in some other space.
And I think that's a pity even if, like me, they later choose to go read mostly BL later instead of focusing on female characters or they genuinely love trash 80s action movies despite everything wrong with them. It's not just sexist media that's the issue: it's that feeling like the fish can't see the water it's swimming in.

I liked your thoughts on diversity issues in the LA TLM. Would be happy to read your analysis of the whole movie.
Thank you for enjoying my thoughts! I think people are really blinded by the casting of Halle to realize that a film set in the Caribbean (TLM 2023) should not look like this:
Tumblr media
It's also worthy of noting that the only two people of color in this picture aside from Halle are only featured via their voice- Halle's father, uncle, and love interest are all white- even Ariel's "alter ego" (ie the one who stole her voice and is using it, so should conceivably look enough like her to believably be the original owner of the stolen voice) is also a white British woman...such a missed opportunity. Especially since Disney doesn't have a black Prince (Naveen is South Asian).
Honestly, that specific fandom is probably the worst to interact with if you aren't blindly praising the movie. I think it was a mistake just like every other live-action Disney movie, which are always inferior versions of their original counterparts. I could get more granular but, again, I really don't feel like being countered on why this movie is the best ever and every choice was genius when I have a difference of opinion. I think the added lore was confusing and convoluted and never paid off, the design of the costumes and the worldbuilding was ugly tbh, I think they put WAY too many expectations on Halle and the character of Ariel to the point where it obliterated the very human and vulnerable components of her, they went against all of Howard's original notes of effect vs going broad, and Rob Marshall showed who he was multiple times by saying how he felt the original had a shallow love story that he never connected with, Eric was two dimensional character in the original, and just all the other negative things he said about Ron and John's great work while simultaneously ripping them off (Jodi's said multiple times that Ron kept mentioning to her during the screening that they used a ton of his lines from his original story treatment).
I think the performances were wooden, to put it mildly. And, honestly while a lot of this boils down to bad acting and lack of chemistry (Javier might give the worst performance I've ever seen in a film), it also isn't fair to have actors navigate a heavily CGI'd world compared to the medium of animation that has like four performances for a single character (between the many supervising and sequence animators a single character might have, their voice, the dialogue director, etc). In the original, you can see how Triton and Ariel keep interrupting one another in a masterclass of expressive animation and dimensional voice acting, they're almost one top of each other, and the heave Ariel musters as all the emotions build in her chest. We can feel how frustrated she feels at her inability to be heard and how she's fighting to keep her emotions from getting the best of her. Halle and Javier have a different dynamic, where they never really get that heated or emotionally charged and they're barely interrupting one another; they're super still, and the calm way with which she stares at him before swimming off...I'm sorry, this just isn't it for me lol the film isn't as bad as Lily's Cinderella but nothing ever will be lol

It's official the HBO series will happen.
What's your thoughts?
I'm so so annoyed.
But before getting into my personal feelings, I find it a very weird investment choice. In ten years? Yes, it would have made sense, but now? It's too early. The movies are still very relevant for a lot of people. That mixed with JK Rowling's current reputation is a recipe for disaster. The only way for them to not get cancelled on season 2 is to make a bloody masterpiece. It seems the only way for people to forget JK Rowling's transphobic shit.
I think the two main driving factors were JK Rowling trying to regain popularity and also I believe they want to give it a final try at a Harry Potter cinematic universe, Marvel or Star Wars style. But to do that they need some decent central material, so clearly they couldn't use those godawful movies.
It could be a masterpiece, but I don't believe it will be.
They showcase Rowling being an executive producer as a reassuring thing but frankly, that worries me even more. Do I really need to pull out all the interviews in which she shows she doesn't remember what she has written? Because I can. Every single one of my mutuals here on Tumblr knows those books better than that woman, I can bet whatever you want on that.
I thought a lot during the years about how a Harry Potter tv series should be, I have notes written down, but I have zero trust in these people.
If Steve Kloves gets anywhere near that writing room I'm going to personally set it on fire with all the people working on this project inside
I hope they are going to use the possibilities the media they are using gives and show things even when Harry is not there. And I also hope they are going to use the fact that everybody already knows the story. In season 2, show us what goes on with Ginny and the diary, we already know Ginny has the diary, and the birds in the sky already know Ginny has the diary, you don't need to make it a mystery for the viewer, just for Harry. And in general, if they are smart (and I don't think they are) they are going to show a lot of Ginny's storyline that we didn't get in the books. A story of mental health with a strong female character? They'd be fucking idiots to waste it.
In moments like the Yule Ball, show us what is going on with every character. Show us Ginny meeting Micheal, explore why Hermione likes Krum, show us George trying to not be jealous of Fred with Angelina.
Show us Ron and Hermione when Harry is not there!!! Maybe let them speak about Hermione's relationship with her parents and try to give some sense to the fact that she has children young despite the fact that she seems everything but family oriented from Harry's perspective.
Show us what happens at Hogwarts during the war, especially considering how fucking boring the Horcrux hunt is (some of the most boring writing I've ever seen).
Hermione is a character that aged really badly in terms of contemporary feminism, and it will be even worse in the later seasons if they get to do them because they'll come out in a decade. Don't change her character to adjust to new times. Make sure the narrative addresses her wrong behaviour without changing the story. For example, make Harry and Ginny have a conversation on how wrong she was at setting the canaries on Ron, but save the storyline by making Harry convince an angry Ginny to let Ron and Hermione sort their shit out on their own.
Throw away the children's filter. Show us alcoholic Sirius Black that lives with the ghost of his best friend.
Also, while I'm on that: more Harry bonding with Sirius!!!!
Give us special episodes focused on other storylines. Give us one special episode on James and Lily's story, who cares if we see Snape being friends with Lily before DH, everybody already knows the story!! Give us an episode on the story of the three Black sisters! Give us an episode on Remus and Tonks. And at the very end, give us an episode on Harry and Ginny getting back together.
Remember that you are working with a visual art. When Harry looks at Ginny dancing at the Yule Ball she should have a green dress that matches Harry's green robes, so that you can have a shot of them dressing coordinated but dancing with other people. HBP has a binary structure of juxtaposition of light and dark, fucking show it!! On this note, Ginny should always look a bit brighter if she is around Harry.
In general, use those fucking colours!! Visual art!!!!
I want to be able to see what's on the bloody screen
So many cool things could be done, but they are not gonna do them, and that's why I'm going to hate every single second of it.
I hope to be proven wrong.

LorelaiGilmore101
Hey, welcome to GilmoreGirls101 with me, Tatum Drake. If you're interested in my opinion on Gilmore Girls characters, you've come to the right place. These blogs will be about ten of the characters in the show and why I like them so much. For my first-ever blog, we are starting off with the best character in the show, the one and only ish, Lorelai Gilmore.
Tumblr media
You may disagree with that, but it's very unlikely. Lorelai Gilmore is the best character on the show for many reasons. I believe Lorelai Gilmore is the best character because of her independence. She not only raised Rory at 16 all by herself, but she managed to be a great mom and send her kid to Yale. Lorelai also managed an Inn by herself and did a wonderful job. When she finally wanted to take the next step, she bought her own Inn. She transformed it and built something out of nothing. I find it so inspiring for a single mother in a small town to be brave and go back to school in order to be qualified to run her own Inn. Especially with going against her parents and starting from the bottom. I think, so many people would be overly impressed with her accomplishments, because I surely am. I also find it very inspiring that Lorelai is independent with or without a man. She's had a few different relationships, and the ONLY thing I'd say that isn't perfect about Lorelai, is sometimes the breakups really were her fault, even though they tried to make it seem like it wasn't. But, it doesn't bother me because as long as she stays a good mom and good friend, then I don't care. Lorelai is an amazing woman, and that's why so many guys are in love with her. Team Chris or Team Luke? Personally, I'm team Lorelai. Although I love the little romantic scenes she has, I love her by herself. She doesn't need a man, she doesn't need anyone but her daughter Rory. And I love that about her, because I want to be like her, an independent woman, who doesn't NEED a man. But, every character does have their flaws, and that's what makes them more relatable. Lorelai just may be one of the most relatable characters to exist of all time. She's a caffeine-loving, shopaholic with an addiction to movies, music, and food. Lorelai Gilmore isn't Lorelai Gilmore without 6 cups of coffee, a buffet to feed 8, and a movie she's already seen 10 times before this. She is HER.
Kirk's quote of the day, "Oh, man. I think I've got a cavity, I got to stop partying like this."
Clearly, Kirk can't keep up to the Gilmore's eating habits, and that's okay!

Also this is Incredibly petty and shitty and dumb but.
So I've been reading more fanfic lately and especially among Gen Z writers (presuming a lot of things here but it tends to line up that way I think) that when part of a m/m ship is canonically in a relationship with a woman, to have her also not have ever been attracted to men/him after they break up.
Which. I get the idea behind it!!! It can feel sexist to force her away just to get your two boys available for one another, and if it's an overall fluffy and lighthearted fic, it makes the whole thing a lot easier to swallow if she also was actually never really into it all along. Plus, there's a general trend to making most of the cast queer these days, and this allows for a quick and easy Queer Woman, so. It just makes sense.
Personally I kinda... have some mixed feelings about it because I think it's perfectly normal? for somebody to have bad feelings after a break-up and maybe be kind of human and hurt and even bitter about it, and I sortaaaa resent almost the implication I feel sometimes that it's more ~feminist and independant~ for a woman to have never had Actual Feelings for the guy. But THEN AGAIN I am simply an angst-liker deep down, SO.
But see the thing is. I expressed above that the woman in question is made as never having been attracted to men after all. But in absolutely every single case that I can remember of this (and there are a lot!), the woman was, very specifically and explicitly, made a lesbian. Not once, in ANY fic I've read, has she been aro/ace.
Even when there's nothing you could so much as hint at in canon of her being into girls. Even when there's not even a real plausible canon possibility for her girlfriend. Even if said girlfriend is entirely imaginary and theoretical, it will ALWAYS be assured to the reader that she definitely, 100% has one (or if not, is going to get one very soon).
which.
On the surface... I do not think there is any actual good reason for that. All the positive aspects I mentioned above would still apply 100% to an aro/ace character. And, like, when the plot itself focuses so strongly on romance between two men? That's the perfect place to bring in an aspec character as contrast!! They'll actually be able to provide a totally outsider view to this all! To me, that seems like the clearest option, diversity-wise?
...but. well. it's not hard to guess why things don't happen that way.
And it's the same sort of reason that Gen Zs are so eager to point out any random female character, no matter how strongly associated with romance with men, as a lesbian. While I have once again never seen such a character randomly labelled aro/ace (except by explicitly aro/ace people who forcibly acknowledge self-consciously that this isn't canon and they're just projecting because they like the idea haha don't worry!!!)
Because lesbian representation is 'more important' than aro/ace representation.
And because women aren't really 'not attracted to men' unless they're attracted to women instead. Otherwise, it's just 'not liking sex.' And that's just not nearly feminist enough, is it? Where's the female solidarity in that?!

For the ask game: 💛 💚 💜
💛: What is a popular ship you just can’t get behind, and why?
Tbh... unpopular take but most of the popular ships in Glee don't appeal to me. I don't like P*zberry, Qu*nntana, F*berry, P*ckurt, P*ckleberry and H*vans. I won't get into all of it but one of them I just never understood is Kl/aine. Just never got it, even after five seasons I still don't get it, doesn't do anything for me at all.
💜: Which character is way hotter than everyone else seems to think?
Brittany. I noticed that Santana and Quinn basically get all the love in terms of their appearance whereas Brittany gets way more haters calling her ugly or just flat out ignoring her or just being the one who's forgotten about when people talk about attractive Glee girls. She's incredibly underrated. Her performances in the first Britney episode were so sexy and so was Run The World, to name a few examples but she gets so slept on because people prefer the other two. She usually gets the least amount of edits and fanart out of the Unholy Trinity (and maybe even most of the other girls?) sadly.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
Oh man... be prepared for a lot of unpopular takes. I wouldn't know where to start with what fandom get wrong about Brittany. Although tbh almost all the Glee characters get mischaracterized by fandom, so she's far from the only one. Based on the headcanons/art/fics I've seen, one thing I noticed is that Brittany gets taken to extremes in their portrayal of her.
There seems to be this constant need in fandom to prove that Brittany isn't stupid at all. Whereas, imo there's nothing wrong with her being stupid. I don't see it as a bad thing. She is smart in certain ways, like emotional intelligence. She's also not very smart at all in other ways. Her being stupid doesn't mean she has no worth or that she doesn't deserve love. It doesn't mean she can't be a good character.
She often gets written as this superwoman/independent woman who somehow is the best scientist/chef/doctor to ever exist with a million talents. She's too perfect. I feel like some fans do this to overcompensate for how she was passive/not super successful in conventional ways and not intellectual in the series. It just makes her way less appealing to me when she's portrayed like that.
She also sometimes gets portrayed in the reverse where she's completely childlike/incapable and helpless in every single way - worse than she ever was in canon even - with no edge or agency either which also is not really her.
Her traits like her quirky side that make her unique get washed out and she becomes what my friends and I refer to as the "Wattpad y/n girl" or the generic girl that's totally bland instead of having her Brittany-isms.
One thing I absolutely hate personally is the obsession with portraying Britt as this super dominant controlling top, or this masculine woman who pushes Santana around. It's just not her and it's gross to warp their dynamic into that imo. I see no appeal.
Another thing I noticed that bothers me is that fics often remove Brittany's sex appeal and femininity entirely for some reason. I often feel it's because they dislike the character or they just don't care about her at all.
I noticed on this site especially Brittany also gets demonized and portrayed like if she's some evil borderline sociopath who only cares about Santana and her cat. It's so weird to me, especially when it's fans of some of the biggest bullies on the show of all people who say they can't support Brittany because she's a "bully." Yeah, Brittany has a mean catty side and she dislikes a lot of people but she's not some extreme bully and no worse than most others on the show.
I noticed that people like to switch Brittana around and try to push Brittany's personality traits on Santana/vice versa for some reason.
For example, they are desperate for Santana to be the more cheerful bubbly one who loves all the New Directions and is super creative while Brittany gets pushed in the background and portrayed as the cold one who doesn't care about any of them except Santana. Which is closer to the reverse of how it is in canon. Brittany was the softer, more creative one of the two and they want Santana to be that instead. Or they portray Brittany as this jealous insecure girl with Santana who gets all heated in her jealousy (that is so unlike Britt - that's Santana). Brittany was rarely ever insecure or jealous at all.
Or alternatively, one thing that's annoying as hell is they want Brittany to constantly act as the protector for Santana who goes after people who they think wronged her, when in reality in canon it was almost always Santana who was actively protecting Britt. Brittany rarely ever went after someone who she felt hurt Santana or attacked them. I think her standing up to Alma Lopez and Artie when they were harsh about Santana were two of the only times but she never just ran after Santana's enemies and physically or verbally attacked them.
I also get annoyed by fandom acting like Britt had no agency at all in her romances. For instance, people seriously still act like Santana practically forced her to have sex with her in S2 or they act like Santana ruined Bram and forced Britt to break up with him. Which ??? that is so off. If you really think Brittany didn't know what she was doing was cheating on Artie in S2 or that she didn't want to have sex with Santana, idk what to tell you.
Another thing about the fan reaction to Britt that's way off is how so many people still say things like "Brittana was one-sided because Santana loved her more" or they act like Brittany ruined their relationship more or Santana was more committed/loyal to Britt than vice versa. I won't even get into that here but it is so untrue in canon.

Sweeney Todd Revival on Broadway!
Saw it over the weekend and have had some time to marinate on it. As a former theatre (or tech) kid I have to throw my thoughts into the void. I'm serious, this is a long and wordy babble, you are not gonna read it all, I'm really just thought-dumping.
Cast:
We were told as we were entering that Josh Groban, the big draw for most folks, would not be in to play Sweeney. Sweeney was instead played by the guy who usually plays Pirelli. I don't know much about Groban, but I do hear he has a great voice, so I am a little bummed I didn't get to see it.
Still, other guy (Nicholas Christopher per the slip) was...obviously talented-- everyone in the show is extremely talented, it's Broadway. Tremendous voice on him. He had an excellent growl and did my favorite thing (in Epiphany, he went UP on "nor a hundred can assuage me" and it was so STRONG and RAW and AAAGH I love it. Here at 2:22 if you wanna know what I mean. George Hearn is my fave Sweeney.). That said, his Sweeney wasn't my cup of tea. George Hearn ruined all other Sweeneys for me (hyperbole tho). This fellow was a bit stiff...like, he has the sound of the rage but not enough expression of it to get me, if that makes sense. He was explosive but it often didn't feel like a passionate rage, just a loud one.
Certainly a very different Mrs. Lovett (Annaleigh Ashford) than I'm used to. She wasn't my ideal Lovett (again, spoiled by Angela Lansbury), but I can recognize that she was still an excellent one. Gorgeous voice with impressive range, super animated. What was different about her, I think, is that she played her more self-aware than I'm used to. It was a little more "this lady is funny and she knows it" rather than "this lady is fucking weird and it's delightful". But, again, just because that's my preference doesn't mean this was any less good. Very slapstick, way hornier, but ultimately very much understood the character at her core.
The kid who plays Dustin in Stanger Things (Gaten Matarazzo) played Toby! It's clear some people were there just for him. He has a strong singing voice and is just super charming. Truly a treat that I got to see him in this role, I think he fit it really well.
Such! An! Interesting! Johanna! This girl (Maria Bilbao) had a really unique take that I kind of loved. She played her like a bird-- twitchy, always on the verge of panic-- which is such a great choice given the symbolism around the character. I want to scream how much I love this: it ties her to the "Beggar Woman"! Lucy was also very twitchy and jerky, what with the being crazy and all, and it was such a smart way to subtly show that these two are related without the audience being able to realize the connection until the reveal.
Pirelli (Daniel Torres), my beloved. I've never seen a single bad Pirelli.
The guy (John Rapson) playing Beadle Bamford was SO hammy and it was SO good. Super flamboyant, expertly annoying and able to switch so quickly to smarmy and cruel. His timing and tone in Parlor Songs was so fucking funny.
Judge Turpin (Jamie Jackson) honestly kind of took me out of it whenever he was around. He played Turpin as sort of a creepy but ultimately frail geezer. To me, Turpin is usually meant to be like large and intimidating and overbearing. He's an enormous shadow that swallows people. This one to me was just sort of...a grandpa. I didn't feel the evil enough.
Anthony (Jordan Fisher), also my beloved. This guy had, IMO, the most beautiful voice of them all. Like, so beautiful that the sound itself, not the subject matter, made me teary at times., especially during Johanna. Had just the sweetest face and most charming demeanor- didn't feel put on at all. So earnest and naïve and passionate. In general just "have you ever heard a voice and seen a man so beautiful that you cried".
Not much to say about Lucy (Ruthie Ann Miles), and not in a bad way. She had a beautiful voice and played the role well.
Set:
So cool! The show starts in London, with just Sweeney and Anthony standing in front of a bridge. The bridge then becomes the upper room: the flashback for Poor Thing, the upper parlor, Johanna's window. It was abstract for some scenes, like Johanna's window, but it felt very natural. Like there was literally no window, just her looking out between the rails, but you got that it was a window. What was, if I remember correctly, a crane on the side rotated to become the stairs leading down to the cellar, with the "meat hatch" on the back. Again, not sure I'm remembering correctly-- the set is very dark at times and purposely makes you think you're looking at something entirely different-- but I believe the same part had this little niche that became the asylum. Also, of course, the chair. I don't think I have a single complaint about the set. It was clever and wonderful.
A/V:
In the beginning, in his first few lines in The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, Sweeney's mic wasn't working. I hissed internally. It was only a few seconds but I felt the "NOOOO" inside of me that I guess comes from having spent a lot of time hanging with the guys in the A/V booth in high school productions.
I really liked the lighting for the most part. What struck me most was when the ensemble sang. The fog rolled around their feet, the stage entirely dark but for them. At the end Ballad when they were all lined up at the very front of the stage ("Isn't that Sweeney there beside you?" "There! There!"), the light shone up under their feet and gave them this gargoyle-ish look, so stark and deliciously unnerving. My only complaint was this like bright white flashing during City on Fire, but tbh I don't really love that scene anyway, I think it's kind of out of place, so whatevs.
Another petty thing that's less me saying "this was bad" and more me going "nooooooo"- Johanna shooting Fogg...her action didn't quite match up with the bang. Oof ouch.
Choreography/scenes/songs/general thoughts:
The flashback sequence of Poor Thing seems to be done differently every time I see it, but it's always good. This one was really abstract but incredibly striking. Todd and Lovett were lit up below in the shop, and above them it was all silhouettes on the bridge. Lucy moved like Johanna (again, aaah such a good choice), twitchy and nervous. The scenes weren't direct portrayals as it usually is (i.e. Lucy cradling the baby, Beadle and Turpin calling to her, Turpin descending on her at the party) - it was more like interpretive dance and it was very compelling.
Ngl, I didn't enjoy A Little Priest as much as I normally do, although the audience clearly loved it so, y'know. Art is subjective. But Lovett was a little too over-the-top (at one point she collapses laughing on the floor and propels herself around in a little circle), and I didn't get a real sense of mirth from Sweeney.
There is this point in the show, in general, that I love because of the audience. The play is funny. It's really, laugh-out-loud funny. Some scenes are just absolutely ridiculous and it WORKS. But there is a point-- it sort of starts during Not When I'm Around but really kicks in after Parlor Songs, which is like the last funny moment. You spend the whole play going back and forth between Sweeney's intense brooding and Lovett's looniness, and it kind of lures you into lightheartedness despite some of what you're seeing and hearing. It all gets SHARPLY cut off (no pun intended I swear) when Sweeney kills Turpin. The audience goes totally silent and stays that way 'til the end. It's SO well done, it just makes your stomach drop, it takes your face in its hands and says "now here's the real shit". The silence pulls you in and it feels like everyone is holding their breath.
Hehehhehehe I love catching reactions of people who haven't seen the show before. I saw at least one person with their hands over their mouth when they realized the beggar was Lucy.
There was some really great new little things I loved with Sweeney and Lovett. At the end of A Little Priest, instead of the two of them standing there triumphantly, they both slam a butcher knife and a rolling pin down on the table in time with the final note and then the stage goes totally dark.
In the same vein as the above- at the end, usually Sweeney and Lovett kind of look at each other from opposite sides of the stage and then it goes dark. Sometimes there's a door slam. In this one, they turn their backs to the audience and walk through the fog toward the back of the stage. In the very final moment, they clasp hands and jump together into an unseen pit. Like they literally walked hand-and-hand into hell. Internally, I'm making high-pitched sounds over how much I love that.
The ensemble was fascinating. Lots of jerky, kind of interpretive movements. In the beginning Ballad they do this thing where they all simultaneously start drifting to the side and then they suddenly stumble. In God, That's Good! they just sort of slowly lay Toby down on the table and then drag him off. It was weird, but a very intriguing kind of weird. It really unsettled you, which I think the ensemble as "the people of London" is supposed to do. They are meant to be unpredictable, dreamy, listless, and at other times wild. Neato.
I'm sure there's more I can say but I can't think of it right now so let's just stop me here because I've been writing for over an hour. Overall: Really enjoyed it, would recommend. I do wish I knew what Josh Groban Sweeney was like though.
If you actually read all this: Did you see it? Tell me what you thought! I truly really would love to hear about it.

Hey! Don't know if you've seen the latest article from The Direct, but it says Marvel Studios reveals that Sylvie is not genderfluid like Loki.
Well, according to the Loki series writers and director, Loki himself isn't genderfluid either! Oh excuse me, I mean the other Lokis "haven't got there yet". 🙄
You know why I think they're erasing genderfluidity from Loki's identity? Because they want the fact that Sylvie is female, the only female Loki, the only "good" Loki, to be what makes her so superior and special. That's it. That's all they've got. Oh, and the fact that she has the most tragicest backstory that a team of writers have ever made up as they went along, and that somehow gives her an element of "specialness" that dumb ol' inferior Loki could only dream of achieving.
I wish with all my heart that they had just let Loki be genderfluid, instead of forcing this poorly written, slapshod "original character" to be the most special thing ever, just because she's female. I honestly wish that Sylvie just didn't exist. I don't know if it's because they think Loki is just a shit character, and that's why they need Sylvie to be so special, and created her with a mix of Enchantress and Sylvie Lushton because being just Loki or just Lady Loki isn't enough? I don't understand why but I don't think I've ever despised a character more than I do Sylvie.
Of course I don't mean this in a misogynistic way. They want us to think that what they're doing is feminism and that it's empowering to girls but it's really not. It's a patronizing pat on the head. It's insulting. The whole "oh baby you're so superior" thing is crap, and it's costing us dearly. It's costing us the characters we love, and it's ruining the potential of other characters.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I just needed to unload after seeing that this morninng.
Hey that's alright. I understand the frustration, believe me 😉
And please, don't worry about the so-called "misogyny". You can dislike as many female characters as you want, in fact, if anything that's what is truly feminist here: to like or dislike fictional characters without a care in the world as to whether they're men or women or everything in between.
I hate the "she's superior because she's a woman" trope too. There's nothing empowering about that, quite the opposite, and I couldn't agree more with you when you call it patronizing.
They give us a woman, tell us she's perfect and she's the only woman that matters (wow, that is so feminist, huh 🙄) and of course she has a tragic backstory because they want her to be complex but they won't ever put in the effort to write that complexity, so the easiest way to go about it is to claim she has a rough past.
And of course, in these cases the woman needs to be compared to a man because no matter how much they try to tell us the woman is the most perfect creature in existence, she still needs to be evaluated against a man so that she can earn her place in the story (you never see this with men). So she's superior to the male lead in absolutely everything -- but she's not going to show that (we know the writers don't really give a damn about her to write her as complex) so that superiority will be spoken, said by those around her and especially the male lead, who will do everything in his power to remind the audience time and time again of how perfect she is -- lest we think a woman has any value until a man decrees it. What of all this doesn't sound feminist...?! 🤦‍♀️
They were never going to have Loki as genderfluid because the entire purpose of the series was to 1) belittle him and abuse him, 2) retcon him to be the most palatable, basic and normative character of all. Genderfluidness would have ruined that. Just look at what they did with his bisexuality: he comes out, Sylvie says not a single one of his relationships were ever real, he falls in love with her and he's then beaten in the time cell. That's what you get for coming out in Disney.
But what can we expect from people who do this...
Tumblr media
LaufeySON for a woman (they changed that in the series so bonus points for that, I guess) and they write her race is Asgardian but her birthplace is "unknown". She's the spawn of Laufey, she confirmed she was adopted, how the fuck is her birthplace unknown?!

Alrighty! 'Choose violence ask game!'
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
I'd say the answer for this one might be Yang tbh. Lately, I've been really struggling to like her, and it's because for the past couple of years and especially now that V9 happened, no one is allowed to dislike or criticize ANYTHING Yang does or says. She's treated like not only a completely flawless character who is always in the right, but she's also put on a pedestal way above her sister and tbh her love interest as well. And on top of how people act like it's immoral and wrong to ever think Yang might be slightly in the wrong, they do this weird thing where they'll convince themselves of things that aren't true, like volunteering her for a 'buff woman' tournament and then some of them arguing and fighting when she got rejected. I also don't like how some of Yang's fans treat Blake.
I loved Yang for seasons and I still love my headcanoned version of her, but canon got bad. I could've ignored that though, but some Yang fans are just so annoying that it makes me just get so freaking sick of her.
9. worst part of canon
Okay, can I say that V9 in its entirety is imo the worst part of canon? Even rwby at its worst historically has some good concepts that can be salvaged. V9 is the first time that I came out of a rwby season going 'about 90% should've never even been on the table.' The concepts weren't even good. It was a completely pointless detour that made almost every single main character look three times worse, and it did speed of light badly done 'arcs' that make it seem like they're going to stop developing those characters, and the badly handled suicide allegory is super bad. Anything good they introduced in volume 9, they took back and ruined by the end of the season. It was a total waste of time that doesn't even belong in the story of rwby.
10. worst part of fanon
I'm not very involved in the main rwby fandom, but from what I've seen, I'm gonna say the fanon invented stuff for Ironwood about him being like an evil dictator grooming Winter and trying to use Team RWBY as weapons and stuff is just so annoying. Like he's such a hate-sink, I don't know why people have to make things up to hate on him. XD This wouldn't even be that bad though if fans didn't convince themselves it's true and that anyone who thinks otherwise is evil. Like, when people said that Ironwood invaded Vale in volume 2 and when I was like "where" they told me 'that's what the writers wanted us to think' and then told me they had to go with what was true rather than what I wanted, after providing zero evidence. Like bro???
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Ooh, okay. I can't understand why so many people like the characterization of Blake as a sad submissive shy girl who can't stand up for herself and flinches away from angry people and doesn't really care about politics or the world that much, and acts the opposite of how Blake in the first five seasons acted. I can't understand why so many people liked Jaune's 'got old, turned young again' arc. I can't understand why so many people get so much from Summer Rose when she is very dull and badly done in the narrative imo. I can't understand why so many people are down for endless betrayals in a show supposedly about hope and goodness and growth and how working together and being good beats out evil. That's just off the top of my head.
Thanks for these asks!

hi! just wanted to pop in quickly to tell you that i've finally gotten around to reading both of your alicia clark books! i remember starting the first one a long time ago but never managing to finish it - i reckon it's because i've never actually watched fear the walking dead because, well, i ✨fear✨ the walking dead (sorry for the pun lol but no seriously, i'm too scared to watch such shows, even though alycia's in it 😭) but i always manage to come back to ur account and ur fics (i basically grew up with them) and i'd seen that you'd posted new content about alicia clark, so i just had to give your books another try and i absolutely loved it. i loved alicia & kamille, i loved mía and al and oliver and so many other characters and it really broke my heart when joanie and madison and adam died.
kamille is an amazing character; she is patient and calculated, fearless but also scared. she is hope and warmth and the future alicia always deserved.
i'm not religious by any means, but you still managed to make me understand and respect the hope people gain from having faith in something/someone but also the boundaries and doubts that come along with it (even though you didn't mean for it to take over the story). believing in something also often comes with rules, so it was very interesting for me to read about kamille's inner conflict about breaking them: did they really matter in a world where law and order was gone and safety and trust was always only temporary? and even if the world didn't turn to shit, kamille is a muslim lesbian and a woman of color - as i've said, i'm not religious, but i'm also a queer woman of color and i did grow up in a househould with certain beliefs, so if you don't mind and feel comfortable sharing it, i'd love to hear more about your opinion/thoughts on this matter. only if that's okay with you though, you can skip this part, if you don't want to answer that question of course! i don't wanna pressure you into anything!
but yeah, i really did love kamille (even though she was so fucking stupid and oblivious sometimes 😭). and as i've already said: i've never watched ftwd before but kamille and alicia just somehow made sense to me. i haven't felt this single in a loong time hahahaha 🥲
i believe the ftwd fandom is not very huge and i know that some of your other fics for other fandoms might get more attention, but i really do appreciate it every single time u post a fic about alicia (i mean i appreciate every fic you post but i'm kinda loving alicia clark very much right now).
just wanted to let you know that bc she seems to be one of your favorite characters and you must like writing fics about her. so yeah, if you ever feel like those fics are not being recognized properly; i recognize them. and i very much appreciate them. 🫶🏻
sorry this message is wayyy longer than i intended it to be haha
firstly can i just say there’s so much to unpack with this but first and foremost, this brought tears to my eyes because it’s such a genuinely sweet and thoughtful message, and it means a lot when someone really delves into what i’ve written and appreciates it as more than fanfiction, so thank you 😭
okay so i love your fear the walking dead pun, really made me laugh 😂 i really appreciate you giving my fics another go as well, especially as someone who doesn’t usually go for scary stuff like that – it means a lot! ♥️
you’re right about the ftwd fandom being tiny haha, it’s a struggle writing stuff when not many engage with it, but thank you so much for letting me know you enjoy my stuff! i think i’ve been writing a lot for Alicia lately because i genuinely just miss her character and there’s a lot to work with in that universe and with her, plus i’m still having withdrawal from the kamille x alicia fic as it was so fun to write and i miss them 😂 you’re right btw - kamille was a dumbass haha but her and alicia felt so real to me and i genuinely forget she’s not in the actual show 😂
again, very grateful you recognise that though – it’s always so touching to know there’s someone out there delving into what i’ve written! as you said about the subtle commentary within the fic about religion and beliefs combatting a world where it isn’t ’needed’ anymore, that was something that i’m glad you picked up on! i feel like i try to include subtleties in my writing on similar more serious themes, rather than just a fic or imagine, so it means a lot someone noticed them :)
in terms of my opinion on the whole queer women of colour and belief system, i’m happy to share! honestly writing the kamille x alicia fics were a little outlet for me as i’m in a similar boat, a pakistani lesbian, and i genuinely face this issue every day, so obviously i can only share my opinion.
as a person of colour yourself, you must understand how it is being viewed in the lgbtq+ community as someone who isn’t white, but i feel like it’s even harder when you’re a follower of a religion, so in my case Islam. But i won’t go into how it is being viewed like this externally because you can see that anywhere. For me, it’s the internal conflict.
i think knowing that i like women and can never feel otherwise makes it hard because it’s always a decision between do i force myself to think and feel differently because of my family? or do i lead my life how i want to? but then that in itself is hard because even though i’ve told myself i’m a lesbian and accepted that, have i really? i don’t share it to anyone other than my friend and sisters. I don’t know how to. And then my religion and beliefs come into play - i genuinely believe God/Allah wouldn’t frown on me for feeling this way because He created me, but other Muslims would see it as a sin and me straying away from religion. But is it really straying if it’s not my choice? Surely my beliefs should be between me and God, not everyone else?
No matter what, believing in something bigger than me and the fundamentals of my religion make me feel calm and centred. I don’t care how many times people say being gay and Muslim is wrong, because it’s not to me. I can be both. And it doesn’t change any of what i believe. Saying that though, my parents put religion first even though they’re not very religious. Family is second to them whereas it’s first for me. Their beliefs shape them and i can’t exist within that if it doesn’t follow their ideals.
It genuinely comes down to perspective, and as much as i tell myself i don’t care what others think, i do. Mostly my parents. If they knew, they’d despise me. And it’s that thought of do i lie forever to keep them in my life? or live my truth? the answer is, i don’t know. My biggest fear is being alone, funnily enough like Kamille, so i don’t know if i’d rather live an unhappy life surrounded by people or a happy life alone.
But yeah - that’s just the base points of my thoughts on the topic, as well as my experience. If you have any more questions or want me to clarify anything, do let me know! the truth is, most of the stuff Kamille fears or worries is a mirror of my life lol. Only difference is, her circumstances don’t make her choose because it’s not a choice, it just is.
Hope that helps and once again, thank you for your kind words! 🥰♥️

I dont understand HOW sjm has SO many fans! Like, all those celebrities who have done a bad thing (Amber Heard, Chris Brown) or believe in something that is seen as negative and hurts other people (JK Rowling) are terrorised by the media and its people! But sjm? No, she totally didn't do ANYTHING bad or terrible! 😱
It's not like she copied other authors works and implemented them into her own story! It's not like she created the Illyrians, who are POC (apparently) only to HATE on them and make them out to be misogynistic and abusive to females?! Other authors would be getting called racist by now! It's not like she sexualized Nesta being skinny and even body shamed her in the books! It's not like she acts like her MCs are feminists, only to be brought down for a man who then impregnates them and lies to them about their life being in danger! Oh, HOW feminist of you Rhys! How feminist of you Sarah Janet MyAss! She should be getting called a misogynist, but SOMEHOW she isn't? She also makes out that woman can't be powerful unless they know how to fight! Wow. Thanks Sjm, I've always known I was weak during my fight from poverty, but it's ALWAYS good to get an amateurs opinion.
And then there's the whole Mor thing, with terrible LGBT representation. Her own fans were not sure whether Mor was a lesbian or Bisexual because she just didn't explain it well enough when writing that conversation with Feyre, as Mor states that she's attracted to both genders, and YET her reaction to her sleeping with Helion REALLY doesn't show that she's bisexual, as to me personally it seemed like she was scarred from having sex with a man instead of having sex with HELION himself.
And finally. . . 😤 ignoring the trauma of LITERALLY every character except Feyre and Rhys, despite being VERY aware that her series is popular and MANY young adults and teenagers would read these books and think 'Oh, I guess this behaviour is okay', which, it's isn't! Rhys sexually assaulting Feyre, Cassian gaslighting Nesta, Azriel being willing to screw Elain but then ditch her. . . none of that is okay! But young people don't know that and aren't aware of this, so they believe EVERY single toxic and abusive thing that sjm tells them, and THATS exactly why Feysand and Nessian still exists!
Nesta: suicidal, depressed, sexual assault victim, has been body shamed and over sexualized by her mate, has PTSD, may have a food disorder
Lucien: possibly suicidal, sexual assault victim, abused and used by LITERALLY every single person he has ever met
Tamlin: borderline depressed, PTSD, sexual assault victim, may be suicidal
SJM: Oh, that's so sad 😥! But let me just ignore this *wacks away the coloured letters* and I'll forget about it! 😚 Let's focus more on Rhys, Feyre and Gwyn!!
And I'm not invalidating Rhys, Feyre or ESPECIALLY Gwyns trauma. Gwyn SHOULD get a healing arc. But SJM completely forgot about the other threes trauma, especially Lucien and Tamlins, because she knew that if she spoke again about how poor Tamlin and Lucien are, feysand stans would be on her ass being like 'Lucien left feyre to die! Tamlin locked her up!'. But instead of giving the two characters some closure, she just decided to make them the NC's lap dogs (Nesta and the Valkyries too).
And I'm not saying this because I hate Gwyn (Love her, she deserves better than Assriel and having Eris as her grandpapa, Lucien would be a better choice) but SJM DOES kind of make what happened to Gwyn stand out more than the trauma that Nesta and Emerie went through. . . I was rereading Acosf, and I ALWAYS got a bit teary when it came to Gwyn speaking about her trauma, but with Nesta?
The fact that Thomas nearly raped her was basically GLOSSED over and Emerie having an abusive and misogyny family who clipped her was just summed up in one page (if I remember correctly) whilst mentions of what had happened to Gwyn were scattered all over the book, and since this was NESTAS journey, I was surprised at first when I first read the book (acosf), cause I didn't really care about Gwyn then, and I was just hopping from excitement about Nestas trauma being mentioned more often (since I was scared sjm would never mention her trauma again), or even handled better, but it just. . . was a lot of Feysand and Gwyn propaganda, and Nesta slander. Yeah 😭
Sjm EVEN focuses more on LoA and Helion than Lucien, Tamlin and Nesta, who ARE essentially some of the main characters 😭
Anyway, SJM ignoring all this trauma that the characters have or even acting like it isn't important, is going to teach those people that trauma should be ignored and forgotten, that if you're suicidal, NO ONE cares! If you're being body shamed, NO ONE cares! If you're being harassed or sexually assaulted, NO ONE cares! If someone is being racist to you, NO ONE cares!
And I think that THIS is why SJM should just stop WRITING BOOKS! Because people DO care about your trauma, and SJM is going to make you think otherwise. The author may not say it directly, but her work is proven to be misogynistic, racist, sexist, and as they say, 'the words and actions within a book says more about the author than the actual book'.

I am coming here so I can more easily complain about the new Monster High generation since Twitter's limit is agitating.
So, for one, I love Draculaura's new body type. It fits her well, it's cute, and her doll itself is quite endearing. However, I hate her new look; She is painfully TikTok. I hate the split hair, it is not nearly as cute as her old hairstyle and color, and it just does not fit her. I do not like her clothing, either, it has none of the charm of the old clothing with no creative takes on.. anything (jewelry/shoes/etc). The charm of her old clothing is completely wiped. I also am not a fan at all of her new personality. She is a completely new character, and one that I am not a fan of. A true bastardization of her.
Lagoona is just disgusting, sorry. Nothing about her is redeeming. Her clothing is boring and ugly, her 3D and doll model is boring. Over all, none of the choices made really do anything to enhance her design. She looks messy and just generally unappealing. Every change they made to her was another blow to her and she just turned out a complete mess.
Clawdeen's changes are mostly just strange. I understand the reason why they wanted to change so much about her, but I just don't think the direction they went with her was the right choice. She is not the same character in the slightest, and it is disappointing to see. Her clothes are especially underwhelming since she was "the most fashionable" and they turned her into the average Californian art student. Minus Kanken backpack. Another character that stayed the same in name alone.
I think Cleo is okay and they made a few improvements in her design but only in makeup, Ghoulia is bad, Abbey is painfully boring/ugly from what I've seen, and Frankie is okay... but, again, boring.
Base line, I just hate the new fashion so much; it is unoriginal, boring TikTok "alt" fashion. Where with the original generation everything was very unique and inventive in most of the designs, this is just average clothing nowadays as opposed to how the original was all edgy Hot Topic inspired alt styled, and it is just embarrassing to see how generic even the alt monster girl doll line has become.
The shoes with the crazy heels, all of the jewelry with each of the girls' personal flair, the unique hair styles, all replaced... with what? I just don't think it is interesting at all anymore. Obviously, yes, I am an adult now with an interest in dolls, so these are not for me, but the quality of everything just seems to have gone downhill with this new generation and it has none of the same charm. It's Shein clothing with clunkily put together aesthetics. It isn't "bizarre" or "weird" anymore, it's boring, and drab, and generic.
I also think despite the fact that Frankie is nonbinary now, I feel that they have somewhat actually regressed in "progressiveness". Every single woman has long hair now, for some reason? Including Toralei. Most of the characters before did, of course, have long hair before, but Toralei in particular was one character that never did... and on top of that, they made her wear a skirt. This is just disgusting to me, personally. They could not leave the (relatively, with no competition in the slightest) butchest girl in MH alone, and instead had to make her super feminine as well. And look like a TikToker, too, of course. You could argue here that they did it so that the main characters weren't being bullied by the butchest girl in the series, but I honestly never GAF as a child because I thought she was super cute. I also think the removal of her facial markings is sickening.
On top of that, I do think they missed the fact that a lot... of the young girls who watched this show imagined these characters dating. Which is really odd after all they did with EAH and Darling Charming. A lot of this is to do with the fact that the school was mostly populated by women, and the fact that everyone's boyfriends were basically background characters that only ever showed up for an episode or two, just to cause drama for their girlfriends (which made me dislike them more and want the girls to be together more). The girl's friendship was always stronger than whatever guy they got together with for however many episodes. Clawdeen and Draculaura were perfect together in my mind... and they threw the aforementioned together with Deuce?! This is unforgivable. Obviously, the last problem is one I just find really weird personally based on what I thought was cute as a child, but I really don't think they/them Frankie is doing much when all of the girls are still straight.
Also, Deuce in the live action looks like Jughead from Riverdale, which agitates me further.
Another thing that is kind of just nitpicky is that I really hate the proportions on the legs and shoes in this new animation style? This is just so weird looking, I can not get over how tall and short her shoes are and how big her calves are compared to her thighs.
Anyways, I doubt anyone will really read this, or care too much for my Monster High opinions. But I needed to talk about it somewhere. If you do end up reading this and have anything to add, go ahead. I'm not happy with this generation no matter what, though, due to the fact that I feel like it has been stripped down to it's bare essentials with nothing good or new to offer, but I welcome opposing opinions.

Sigh another day, another racist post, why are so many (I know not all) BH stans like this? I block and unfollow and they come out of the woodwork. I swear they're like hydra. The things the accuse Tabitha of, thier wishes, headcannons and desires... And I have to ask, did everyone honestly think that all the OG couples would be endgame, all the HIGH SCHOOL couples would stay together? No one would move past those relationships clouded by thier traumas of the time? Outgrow thier SO? Really?
They seem to really get rowdy when big Jabitha episodes come around 👀
They take out their anger about their ship not happening on Tabitha/Jabitha. We've seen this kind of behavior ever since Tabitha's obvious introduction as Jughead's romantic partner. They don't take her seriously as a viable leading lady or love interest for Jughead, and that's on them. The way they view Tabitha and her character tells you everything you need to know.
Honestly, I don't know how you sit through season 4, watch Bughead (and Varchie) implode like they did and have the audacity confidence to think those ships are coming back, much less be endgame. The timejump didn't break up those pairings and those couples, Betty and Archie did (long before the timejump ever came to be). Betty and Archie and their feelings for each other have been teased every single season of the show, they were inevitable. It doesn't mean the old ships weren't good or don't have good moments, of course they do. But the ships were never locked in and set in stone, especially pre-timejump.
The only show I can think of where the OG couples stayed til the end is PLL and one of those couples included a literal groomer so... sometimes what's best for the characters is to let them grow and mature, not lock them in to the choices they made as teenagers.
I love adult Jughead, I think he is the best version of the character. I think Tabitha is his perfect match and I think he is the perfect partner for her. Jughead and Tabitha fit together seamlessly and they are so healthy as a couple. They are adorable and inspirational.
Some people can't handle seeing Jughead with a beautiful, confident, intelligent, driven, and compassionate black woman and it shows...
I've said it once and I'll say it again, the racist takes that pop up when Jabitha get content are best left ignored, they can argue with the wall. Tabitha is fantastic and Jughead Jones loves her with all his heart.
