#I don't regret building my pc

Sorry I’ve been MIA this week. I know I promised more LMK Tang content (it is coming I swear) but I ended up taking a little me time and stepped away from social media for a bit.
And by “me time” I mean I spent two days staring at a blank page trying to get some writing done, three days finally watching and then rewatching ROTTMNT, and then spent two days creating a stupid compilation of my favorite character in the show. You’ll never guess who it is.
Anywho, I had this weird urge to put together this video that forced me to use the video editing "skills" I hadn't used in eight years, with my brain deciding that I couldn't get anything else done until it was finished. So here ya go. Enjoy this 4-minute video of Donatello moments nobody wanted or asked for:

rereading tâm's character sheet. my girl is genuinely a disaster but i love her anyway
#sola said#like i remembered that i really was not playing her to her full statsheet potential (hey. hey sola. TAKE BOTH YOUR ATTACKS. USE REACTIONS.)#but i had genuinely forgotten/maybe never realized just how silly her build is. why does this character still have two +0 mods at level 20#21 str 15 dex 19 con 10 int 18 wis 10 cha. babygirl why#the thing is that it's actually really nice to look back and realize how differently i would know to build her now if i were to go back#i still don't think of myself as the crunchiest/smartest of players but it's nice to know i understand more than i did two years ago lol#but also. the real answer is that i wouldn't go back. i wouldn't give up anything about the way wandering isles/my first dnd experiences#went for literally anything in the world.#what do you Mean most people's first dnd experience isn't roleplaying slowburn unrequited romance turned aroace interpersonal conflict#turned platonic soulmates after all in the most cathartic and exhilarating possible way?#wandering isles was truly such a way to join and play the back half of a campaign and. yes tâm was a pretty poorly built character but that#was never the point. and it's really nice to look back and be like. i genuinely have no regrets about any of this.#i don't miss playing tâm in that. she got her epilogue. i don't have story left to tell with her. but she still owns my heart#sorry to every pc and campaign i play or will play in the future but i'm genuinely ruined for ttrpgs now <3#tâm#wandering isles

This is my protocol bingo! (Thank you as always osric.com).
Lena is just doing her evil job - No thoughts, no morals, no alligence. Girlboss.
Nobody ever finds out Jmart's real names - I just think that would be tragic, and fit in with what RQ have been saying about this not being too attached to Archives.
Redemption arc - There was a notable lack of these in Archives even though forgiveness and making a conscious effort to behave morally were important themes in the later seasons. I'm ready for Mr Bonzo to have Kylo Ren's exact redemption arc where he's redeemed mostly through kissing. I don't even care who he kisses.
Froyo trip - It's pretty clear that we're being told that this is Somewhere Else through things like the Archives staff having tea and the OIAR staff having coffee. The s1 Archives gang iconically got icecream, so I'm gunning for a froyo trip, and a Gwen monologue about preservatives.
Colin dies first - He's just so killable. Plus, Celia can't die until they do her reveal and they'll probably want to build up to it, Sam can't die because he's the driving force behind investigation into Magnus, Alice can't die because she kinda makes the whole show, Gwen can't die because she's mid-arc and it is of the type that if left unfinished it would be anticlimactic not tragic, and Lena can't die because the impact would be pretty low.
Nostalgic PC games - I LOVE that RQ appears to be into old tech. I want to see Chester and Norris play Catz 5. Lowfi retro charm.
Dyhard - I go back and forth on this one, it feels too obvious what with the hot drinks imagery workplace annoyances to lovers stuff, but at the same time it does Just Make Sense.
Somebody becomes disabled - In Archives people were injured a lot, but none of that amounted to a long-term physical disability, except for Melanie's blindness. Feels like something to do in Protocol.
Police brutality - Feels like a theme that Jonny still has more to say about, and an incredibly easy one to weave into this kind of story.
Alice is hiding something - I actually think she isn't but y'all are saying it.
Alice naming stuff has consequences - She does it so much and Colin warned her off it, clearly seeming concerned but not explaining why, I think it will have unforeseen and damaging consequences.
Someone has a pet - In Archives, especially in the earlier seasons, everyone was notably unattached. Martin has a mum to take care of, but nobody has partners or children. I think this was partly because it made them easier to manipulate, and partly because it meant that tragedy could be dialled up: Sasha dying was sad, but not as gutwrenching as Daisy dying because Daisy's relationships were more fleshed out because it was later in the series. We're already bucking that trend with Celia's son, so I think we might see a pet too. Also, the pet will probably die.
Alice dies in the last season - Alice is very killable but she's also the heart and soul of the character relationships, so I think they will kill her but they'll wait to do it, and then do it mid-final season as an OOH THEY WENT THERE turning point, like how Tim dying brought in a new, darker era for Archives.
Conclusion that love isn't what makes you human - At London Comicon in October, Alex or Jonny (I forget) said that if Archives was about what makes you a monster, Protocol is about what makes you human. I think it's kinda trite if love is the answer, and I think the conclusion re love will be that monsters can love, because that's cooler. Hell yeah romantic monsterfucking.
Celia evil - I LOVE that we're seeing another Welsh person, but she doesn't sit well with me.
Agnes returns but we don't hear her speak - The tree on the other side of the rift is still alive, and if that universe was this one then that means that Agnes may still be alive. Jonny and Alex have said that they regret not doing more with Agnes, and I don't think they'll miss out on the opportunity to use her again. However, I think the fact that she doesn't speak is central to her tragic character and role as Jon's character foil, and I don't think they'll change that. I actually posted a tiktok about this.
Scene on London public transport - We're already seeing our gang at the pub and on dates, I think we're going to get some tube content.
Jmart fate worse than death - They're going to have us WISHING that they died in mag200.
Fears never treated as separate - I just think we're over that.
Breakup - They're getting the character relationships in early, so I'm predicting an onscreen breakup, because that's one of the few ways that we didn't see relationships between characters going bad in Archives.
Gerry's life gets ruined again - I'm sorry guys but I don't think they're going to let him have peace. He's going to get dragged into the OIAR situation and he's going to suffer.
Alice's brother lives - People are already noting similarities between Alice and Tim, I think that it'll be essentially the same character beat again if her brother dies. Adapt, improvise, overcome, RQ.
Another Michael - Just another character called Michael, unrelated to the four existing Michaels. I wasn't going to put this because Jonny is very aware of the four Michael problem, but this man plagurised his own full legal Christian name, so anything is possible.
Jack is Agnes' Jack - I think it's cool if we all think about how there was actually a massive age gap between Agnes and Jack because she didn't seem to age past her twenties, so he was absolutely a child when she was an adult. Not that I want to have Discourse or anything, that relationship was hecked up and complex in plenty of other ways, just because it's interesting.
Onscreen kiss - They said they wouldn't do it during Archives and then they did and it wasn't that gross, so I'm ready to see it happening again. They might have a relationship between allosexuals this time, I don't think they're going as far as onscreen fucking, but I'm game to be surprised. Insert joke about reusing the whimpering noises from Archives here.

Learning To Love Minecraft Again (A Thread)
Written by Daniel T. Gaming
I've been recently falling in love with Minecraft again. After so long of not playing it. I decided to pick it back up & play it again, and It has been one of my favorite things to play in SO long. However, I did a few things to spruce up my newly found interest.
Tumblr media
1. A Fresh Client I had decided to switch over from the tradition Minecraft launcher to the ATLauncher, a mod-eccentric client. And while it may look a tad confusing, it's actually very handy. I am now able to save as many different versions of Minecraft I wanted without my save files or mods controlling one another, unlike the official Minecraft launcher. on top of that, the official launcher also installs a bunch of useless Xbox junk because, well, Microsoft.
Tumblr media
2. Bringing Back The Old With the ATLauncher's ability to save as many versions of Minecraft with their own dedicated files & saves, I am now safely able to play older versions of Minecraft as my heart desires.
Right now, I'm playing 2 different versions, Beta 1.7.3 (A version regarded by a LOT of people as one of the best versions of Minecraft to play today), and Release 1.5.2 (The first ever version of the game I EVER played back in 2012). I will still pick up & play Release 1.20 cuz I do like a lot of the new decor pieces & things, but if I ever just want to play a standard game of Minecraft, I have these 2 versions to keep me occupied.
There's also the old legacy versions from Consoles that people are coming back to, but I haven't gotten to those yet, but planned on them soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Making My Own Goals
My mind has always saw that "Beating the Ender Dragon" was the ultimate goal of Minecraft, and that once it's done, it's done. And while a part of me still feels that way, I'm slowly moving away from that, because that mindset has literally KILLED so many of my past Minecraft maps, and I deeply regret it.
So I started to make my own goals & my own rules. My current survival map never had a bulk smelting machine, so I added one. I never got to refine my mine & make it more like an actual mineshaft, so I got to go & do that.
I don't just want to make Minecraft a point A -> B kinda game. I want to make it a game about creating as much stuff as you can. There are people in this world who have been able to build worlds that have taken them over a DECADE to finish... so why not give yourself that same level of encouragement?
Tumblr media
4. Playing With Friends I recently managed to get a personal Minecraft server going on an old PC. And playing with my friends has been an AMAZING experience. It's actually pretty cheap to run a server nowadays, and Bedrock editions now have general multiplayer support, so playing with friends is now becoming even EASIER than ever before.
Tumblr media
5. Modding Makes The Difference Although I haven't got to do this one yet, I *am* planning on it, as it's been talked about by a LOT of people. There are actually a handful of mods out there that are not just for entertainment, but for bringing fresh vanilla-eccentric changes to Minecraft to keep its charm that it had in its early stages. Two that I have heard of are ReIndev & Better Than Adventure. Both of which actually run off of Beta 1.7.3 too, so that's neat!
I think personally, what these two mods are doing are GREAT, and I cannot wait to play them.
Tumblr media
6. Making It Personal
Personally, I've been handling the game on a more personal level, and not too personal to where it's overbearing, but I mean as in I like to just do traditional fan things that I've done long ago. Watch Minecraft videos, pull out the old Minecraft merch I had from when I was young, listen to the soundtrack, etc.
I haven't felt this attached to Minecraft in SO long, but I am glad it's coming back. I might make this whole thing into a video, but until then, I wanted to make this thread to tell you all how I managed to finally get back in touch with Minecraft.

didn't you say you were making Draxum's house in the sims? Did you ever finish? :(
So I whined about this on my main blog, but I'm having issues with my computer. The power port, and I've noticed this for a while, gets extremely hot whenever I try to run anything more intensive than Powerwash Simulator, and the past few months it's become harder and harder to get it to charge. (I'm not overclocking or anything-I bought this computer for gaming and made sure it had the specs to run shit like my heavily modded Skyrim and Fallout, it should be able to run Sims) I contacted Acer about a repair and they quoted me over eight hundred dollars. The actual computer was about 1200-1300, for comparison. There's other issues with it as well-there's a chip on the screen that's really obvious on a white background, and they advertised that it would support a second hard drive, but it's never recognized the one I bought. The power port is the most grievous though, and power ports on laptops are notoriously hard to repair.
And this computer isn't old. I bought it last spring. Less than a year and a half-and I've barely been gaming on it because I've been writing this, so I spent over a thousand dollars on a turtles fanfiction machine essentially. (there's been other reasons, depression funk caused a complete disinterest in gaming and after so many mass shootings I've started feeling guilty whenever playing games with guns, but writing is mostly what I've been using this expensive gaming PC for) I only had the one-year warranty that came with the computer, but honestly I can't find it in myself to regret that too much because I have never once had a company actually honor a warranty. It's like safety deposits on apartments or insurance claims-they'll do everything they can to weasel out of doing what they're supposed to.
So back to your question-I currently don't trust my computer to run the Sims. Or anything else. And I can afford to buy another gaming PC right now, but it would be financially pretty irresponsible. I returned the tablet I bought to draw with, and I think I'm going to get one of those two-in-one laptop/tablets so I can use it for drawing and writing. Maybe I'll be able to run the Sims 4 on that-it doesn't have to run great, I use it mostly as a building simulator. Kind of sucks though, Crusader Kings 3 came out with another expansion pack and the new Cities Skylines is coming out this fall, plus I've been getting a hankering to play Skyrim again.
But enough about my computer woes, I do think I have some screenshots I could show...
Tumblr media
First floor, I apparently took these during the first round of building because I made a lot of changes. The lab is way bigger now, and I have the rest of the house shell done. The blank space in the back right is where I was going to put in the multi-story room where the turtles find the weapons-which is probably the least completed part of the entire house because holy hell the building controls do not want to work with me.
But in the back left you can see Cass and Gale's rooms! :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like how the main hallway turned out. I know it was mostly destroyed on Creation Day, but let's just say Draxum redid it in the same style. The middle picture, that's the little storage room that hides the door to the part of the house where Gale's room is. If you know the Sims you can tell where the secret door is.
And yes, I know the half-walls under the stairs look ridiculous, I've fixed it since then. I couldn't just extend the half-wall all the way back because it would delete the upper staircase, for some reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm pretty proud of how the living room is turning out. Could be a little bigger, but the symmetry of the bookshelves are just too perfect. (also the curved walls get fussy, FUCK CURVED WALLS) Needs some clutter on the mantle though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen no longer looks like this, I moved around a lot of the pictures and added another layer of cabinets, because Draxum probably has like six sets of fine china he's received as gifts throughout the years and refuses to part with. I added more retro-looking décor, because the last time he remodeled this room was in the sixties and I wanted it to look a little old-fashioned. I also imagine he refuses to get an electric stove, saying his mystic wood-burning stove works just fine. I tried to work a pantry in, but it didn't really pan out. (lol) And the more I think about it, he probably has a legit larder somewhere in the basement, since Draxum is from a time before refrigeration and would have grown up storing food in underground cellars. (and he deffo has like several years worth of food stored away, he's pretty much a doomsday prepper)
This is also incidentally the layout of the kitchen at my old house, hence the weird octagon dining area. Except we had windows. With no curtains. In the woods. It was unsettling to cook at night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Draxum's study is bigger now, and I think I added a fireplace? He absolutely has eight bazillion degrees and awards and he puts them ALL on his wall. He earned that shit, dammit.
His bedroom's nothing to write home about. It's comfortable, not luxurious. There's no electric lights because he prefers candlelight.
Just imagine that white bathroom counter stained with pink splotches from Draxum's hair dye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had BARELY done anything with the pool, but as you can see it is indeed a tank. Draxum was planning to keep a mutant or something in there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was actually in the process of redoing the entire greenery lol, but I think I did an okay job on 1.0. Not the mason jar lamps though, I'm not sure what I was thinking there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some pictures of Lab 1.0. The ooze-vine-thing looks terrible; I straight up haven't even started to recreate it in 2.0. I pushed back Draxum's alchemy area and gave him an actual medical bay in the back, which is where The Table would have been located.
That's mostly Gale's area on the left, I think it still broadly looks this way? I didn't put in stuff like the robotics table because it just looked silly-and besides, we're not actually playing this build. We know Galois only needs two hands and a welder to make a robot.
Tumblr media
I will leave you off with a slightly more clutterfied Gale's room! Oh, but also, I GOT PURPLE CC CURTAINS FOR HIM. :D After I took this picture, but just know he has them now. He has no reason to have them because he does not have a window, but I'm happy for him.

Tech friends, I need your help.
I'm choosing between 2 laptops to buy. We'll call them laptop 1 and 2, for the sake of simplicity. (I'm in no hurry to buy one, mine works... just fine... but not great. It struggles when I have too many tabs open in Chrome, and is lagging as I write this post with literally only Discord open in the background. I'm sure you can imagine how it handles any heavier program. Yes I made a mistake by cheaping out when I could afford better, yes I am aware of this, yes I regret it deeply, let's move on.)
Laptop 1 is about 100 dollars/euros/1000 SEK cheaper.
They both have OLED screens with approximately the screen resolution: laptop 1 has a 15.6" display with 2880 x 1620 resolution (16:9) and laptop 2 has a 14" display with 2880 x 1800 resolution (16:10). My current laptop has a 14" display with 1920 x 1080 resolution (16:9) so either way it's a pretty big upgrade. In terms of size alone, I prefer the 15.6". (Laptop 1 weighs 1.8kg and laptop 2 weighs 1.45kg, which is not enough of a difference that it really matters to me.)
Laptop 1 has a higher refresh rate (120Hz vs 90Hz on laptop 2).
Their processors are both AMD Ryzen 7s (8 cores, 16 threads, 16GB RAM) with equal base clock speed (3.2GHz), but laptop 1 has a Ryzen 7 5800H while laptop 2 has a Ryzen 7 6800H. The two processors use different RAM types (5800H uses DDR4 RAM & 6800H uses LPDDR5 SDRAM (though it is fully possible that the 5800H also uses SDRAM and the sites I'm looking at just aren't telling me)). 5800H has a higher peak temperature (105 Celsius vs. 95 Celsius). The 6800H has a higher turbo clock speed (4.7GHz vs. 4.4GHz).
They both have the same graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050), they both ship with Windows 11, and they both have 1TB of storage space.
Ultimately, I think the main question is whether laptop 2's better processor makes a big enough difference that it negates laptop 1's comfort of a bigger display and justifies the price difference despite it being smaller... and I do not know enough about laptops to make the call there.
("Build your own PC" and "buy a desktop PC" are both advice I will not take because I do not own or have space for a desk.)
(They're both Asus Vivobook Pro OLEDs: laptop 1 is M6500QC-MA025W and laptop 2 is M6400RC-KM001W, and more specifically, they cost 15990 SEK and 16990 SEK. My current laptop is also an ASUS Vivobook but I don't even think they make it anymore because it's so bad. It has a 2-core Ryzen 3 processor and 128GB of storage space.)

Doing some meta pondering on character arcs for future chapters of "Open Your Eyes and It Will Blind You" (x) while waiting for the dye to set in my hair at the salon.
(I find I feel weirdly embarrassed talking about this fic; the fact that Jaheira/Rasaad did not exist at ALL on AO3 as a pairing threw me for a loop and has convinced my brain that I am being Self-Indulgent and Weird despite the fact that literally all fic is Self-Indulgent and Weird and that is why we love it. XD So I am trying to push myself past that and allow myself to be excited about the thing regardless. #personalgrowth That said, this really is just me thinking out loud so feel free to ignore, lol.)
As I said to Springy when she was helping me beta the first chapter - one of the big challenges I'm encountering with this fic is that I think Jaheira and Rasaad would be good being together post-BG2, but writing/plotting them getting together is a little like pulling teeth - they are both people with very strong emotions who have lost much, but they are also both reserved as hell about actually sharing/showing/indulging those feelings visibly.
I have spent a considerable amount of time studying the romance dialogue both of them have with the PC in BG2, but it was no help because BOTH of them have a romance arc centered around the question "Oh gods, what am I doing, what if this is a mistake" and all of the conversations are "[has a feeling] [immediately backpedals]" until the PC basically has to whack them upside the head with their intentions. And Khalid says in Siege of Dragonspear that his original courtship of Jaheira back in the Harpers consisted of him slamming through a hospital door and pouring his heart out to her while she was injured and couldn't hide from the Feels, and it turned out she'd already been sitting on the same feelings for months. XD
So - the question becomes how two people who are BOTH that reticent about their emotions manage to get past it and reach an understanding.
My intention is that the next chapter will make clear that the feelings are there (probably helped on by some Avariel wine at Quayle's birthday party), which will spook both of them, with Rasaad's response being "time to run back to Calimshan, face the music, and die" (kicking off the actual plot as the squad demands to come along with him), because healthy coping mechanisms are a foreign concept in Faerun.
So they will both be sitting with that awareness from pretty early in the story, hopefully leaning into one of my favorite tropes: "The feelings are actually requited, they're both just dumbasses." But as for the actual incident that pushes them to acknowledge those feelings...hm.
Fundamentally, I see both of their character arcs in this story, even before the romance, as being about looking forward vs looking back. Jaheira feels stagnated with no battles left to fight and Rasaad is trapped by his regret over what the monks half a world a way think of him. Ultimately Rasaad's epiphany in going back to Calimshan is not that he is forgiven by the monks there (for something he didn't even do), but realizing that he does not need their approval because he has grown beyond who he was when he lived there and has people who truly care about him and know him. Jaheira's is a little more nebulous, but I see it as building off of Caden's comment in the first chapter that sometimes simply living is enough - that a grand purpose is not always required to live a worthwhile life (this is a topic I've been thinking about a lot in the context of my own life lately and feels like a worthwhile theme to explore).
(Obviously Jaheira is eventually going to get drawn back to Baldur's Gate and a life of purpose in the war against the Absolute, and based on her BG3 dialogue it's clear that she's regressed a bit in this regard from any progress she might make with Rasaad. XD But I don't think that negates the possibility of her being able to have some happiness for a while.)
However... I think I want any romance development to be independent of these epiphanies, because "I have realized I have something to live for because you exist" is a perfectly satisfying trope but feels like a lessening of these characters in this scenario. "I have realized I have life ahead of me, and consequently but unrelatedly am opening myself to you" has more appropriate depth, I think.
Honestly, there are two existing moments in BG2 that feel like they might make sense to build from that I might end up adapting into the fic...
First is a moment from Jaheira's in-game romance. She wakes from a dream where Khalid was watching her but she was unable to reach him; the PC can comment that perhaps Khalid is happy to see that she still has people to travel with and isn't alone, and she says something to the effect of "it wasnt the whole group, it was just you and me. But I think you may be right." It's actually a really sweet little moment, one of the more emotionally resonant bits of the romance line.
The other moment is a bit of banter between Rasaad and Aerie if neither of them are romanced. They're chatting and she makes some subtle comments about wanting to spend more time with him, and it goes completely over his head. The PC then had the chance to chime in and tease him about missing her signals. ("you have no idea what's going on here, do you"). Given the characters involved in this fic, it might make sense for Caden to get involved in playing matchmaker a bit in the late story after the feelings have been stewing for a while.
Anyway... again, mostly thinking out loud but I want to make sure my thoughts are in order. I'm not used to writing multi-chapter fics and it's a very unique challenge trying to make sure the emotional through-line is set up at the beginning and carries through to the end.

11, 17, 3, 2 for the oc creation thingie
2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
✪ Nora: Sort of? I've mentioned before that Nora was built with the idea of looking at the story of Fo4 and what the game lets you do and going "Who would do all this though? And how would they react to it all?".
Who would venture forth into a dangerous and unknown world to reunite with the last bit of their family and pre-war life left? Facing centuries old foes and going above and beyond what most people would be able to withstand? Who would befriend all of the companions and help them with their troubles? Who would don the mantle of The Silver Shroud to bring safety to a troubled town and make a lonely old ghoul feel better? And most importantly, what the hell are they thinking this whole time?
So, she's not specifically designed to just fit with any one character, but they definitely factor into who she ultimately is. From companions, to other characters important to the main story, and even smaller side characters. The interactions she's expected to have with others definitely factor into who she is built to be.
Of all of the companions, I'd say Preston and Nick have the most impact on how I made her, mostly because of them playing large parts in the roads she has to go down (main story and Minutemen stuff).
✝ Alberta: I did also build Al off of my knowledge of Fo3, having played a ton in the past but not so much recently. So there's a lot there that impacts who Al is overall: James relationship with a female Wanderer (he talks differently to a son), Butch and the Tunnel Snakes, playing baseball in the vault, etc.
But I originally created them to see how Nora would react to The Wanderer, and posed an opportunity to show Nora a bit of a dark mirror for herself considering the similarities between their origins and motivations. Also how the differences in their environment and MO changes things too - like if the two had swapped roles, how different would things be then? Better for 3 but worse for 4? How different could Al have been if they had supportive friends from the start like Nora does? Would Nora be so worse off if she'd had to struggle and learned to distrust others as Al had(yes)?
Most everything else came after that. The gremlin took over my mind. Just took a seat and said "I live here now."
3. How did you choose their name?
✪ Nora: Default female character name. Sosu is obviously a play on 'Sole Survivor', but that's actually Nate's last name. Nora's full maiden name is 'Nora Diane Peel'.
The other parts of her name come from actress Diana Rigg and her character Emma Peel from The Avengers (not marvel - an old B&W tv series). The character is cited as being some of Bethesda's inspiration for what the female PC would be like.
I actually also used this name for Nora's mother, keeping the 'Diana' spelling for her. This also means that in my canon Nora's mother sort of named her daughter after herself a little, which is on brand for her.
✝ Alberta: When Fallout 3 was being announced they used 'Albert' as a placeholder name for showing some of the gameplay. This was likely a callback to Fallout 1, where one of the default player options was called that.
I took it and ran with the idea that James and Catherine had chosen that name assuming they were having a boy, but Al came out afab and Catherine died, so James kept the name they chose together and just 'feminised' it. Al thinks that's dumb and also doesn't really like being called by their full first name - it sounds like an old lady name, and they are neither old nor a lady in any sense.
11. already answered here!
17. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Not really. I haven't had the chance, since I'm still in the early writing phases and I don't commit to anything on these things if I'm not mostly sure of it - also avoiding telling spoilers.
That said, there have of course been moments where I think through a potential story bit and decide it doesn't work. Nothing to mention though.

What do you recommend that’s a good base pc to build off of over time, one that’s cost effective but good enough to run ts3 and ts4 simultaneously but I can add better graphics cards and ssds later on?
I think it depends, it's hard to really recommend any specific one bc, I've only ever used one, and they don't manufacture them anymore. I also got my PC to play Fallout 4, bc my old PC crapped out, and I was over sims at the time. Considering its open world, and all the mods I would likely cram into it, I didn't wanna waste money on just anything, so I did some research on gaming PC's ( which I'd never bought until then ) and ended up getting an Acer Predator for about 1299$ at the time.
When I bought it, it had a 1060 GTX, 500GB SSD, 1TB HD and 16GB RAM, dealt with 6 years of my bs with not an issue.
Now the reason I say it depends is bc, many games can run on anything honestly, a lotta them these days want to get in as many hands as possible, so making them work well on lower end systems, esp laptops and consoles, is the best way to do that, since a lot of gamers honestly couldn't give chicken noodle soup about how great a game looks, just that it doesn't lag. However if you plan to play on high to ultra settings, with mods and cc, esp high texture cc, you're going to have to keep some things in mind.
Processor
Intel i5's are pretty powerful for the cost, but I'd recommend an i7 if you can fit the bill. Replacing it shouldn't be too difficult, so long as you find one that's compatible with your motherboard, and they tend to cost a little less, and be more readily available than GPU's for instance.
GPU
I've seen some mid-high gaming rigs run on a 1660 GTX which I hear is a pretty good card, they also run a bit cheaper than the 20 or 30 series RTX, and honestly... you don't need a 20 or 30 series RTX to play The Sims 3 or 4, it doesn't even have any built-in options to utilize a lotta the innovative features these cards have.
I played The Sims 4 on ultra on my 1060 GTX, and it ran and looked fine. Though should you decide to upgrade, understand it might be quite costly, and also a bit difficult to find considering we're still technically in a chip shortage.
Memory
16GB is pretty standard these days, anything more is for those into heavy multi-tasking, however some games are beginning to suggest 32GB.
SSD
Main drive needs to be a 500GB SSD minimum... 250 will absolutely get you nowhere with how Windows updates gobble that shit up. You'll also be storing all your saves, mods, and cc on this main drive, so honestly if you can, go for the 1TB, you won't regret it, especially since upgrading mine to a 1TB was an absolute nightmare.
You'll likely need a second drive as well, and although it's common a second drive will be a regular ol' hard drive ( HD ), which is fine, you've gotta install your Spotify app somewhere, do absolutely consider getting another 500GB or larger SSD installed later, games these days basically start at 80GB install size easy, this doesn't include updates and dlc added later, and a drive doesn't run well when it's almost full.
Brands
I've had my Acer Predator desktop for roughly 7 years now, and it's an absolute champ... my husband's Acer Predator Helios on the other hand... crapped out like two years in, he only ever played Skyrim, and only ran it on medium-high settings. So when it comes to brands it's kinda... eh, I would just try to avoid anything that's like HP or Dell... they're kinda iffy and difficult to upgrade unless you're willing to drop 2k+ on an Alienware, I hear a lotta pretty good things about Lenovo tho, and MSI, if a laptop is more your thing.
Finally, a lotta straight out the box gaming rigs are outfitted with AMD processors and cards these days, and they've come a long way over the years. They're pretty powerful now, almost equal and at times even better than their Intel or Nvidia counterparts, but can be more cost effective if price is a big concern.

DM/GM Mistakes I made my first time
And how to not make them
I started my first ran campaign as a homebrew so trust when I say I have made grand mistakes. I myself am still new to the game, and finding new things every day, despites starting about three years ago.
So here’s some of them, and how not to do them
Giving players OP (magical) items
I still regret this one in my running campaign. I tragically gave my players a handful of OP items out of fear of not pleasing them with the loot prepared. I didn’t think of the implications real well, and kept doing it after seeing the glee on my players faces after the first one.
How to avoid...
Never give powerful items on a whim
Think of the implications, whether your players are assholes or not, they will metagame, minmax, and exploit. So plan for it. Pretend that they will, and plan for it.
Start small, and experiment with your players & loot. Tiny little things will do just as well most of the time, and big items are better for late game players.
Sidetracking Side Quests
Players try to look at everything as a puzzle or challenge. Often times they manage to find fake red herrings in the norm, or chase after wild geese you didn’t even know existed. Sometimes that goose is a side quest you intended to be small, and now for a second session you are watching your players chase it down.
How to avoid...
Have all or most of your side-quest tie into the main quests, so even if they get super sidetracked it will eventually bring them back into, or build on the main storyline, potentially enriching your worldbuilding & campaign.
If a quests seems too off putting for the world or storyline ditch or change it.
Don’t make the side quests more enticing than the main storyline, otherwise players will believe that it is the main storyline.
Too many PC's pets
Players will try to adopt anything and everything whether or not it's practical. Owl Bears, Displacer Beats, Local mysterious NPC. Soon enough my party had so many I couldn't keep track, and dreaded the introduction of any other animal.
Fight your PCs. If you think they shouldn't have it or be able to care for it don't let them.
Keep the pets weak and flimsy. Makes for dramatic emotional roleplay moments when they perish, and allows you to control the numbers.
Force your players to care for them so the next six pets are seen as extra resource consumers and responsibilities.

recs please?
looking for a desktop type pc. high storage, runs games nicely. not interested in 'top shelf/top of the line' kinda shit. if i can avoid rgb gimmicks, too, that'd be dope. just want something that still gives me a good time without sacrificing video quality or putting me in debt lol
price range, $1500 - $2000
i want my games to look nice, but i don't care about needing to render every tiny ballsack hair of whatever character i'm playing, yknow? ray tracing has my heart tbh... not a deal breaker tho.
bonus points: if i have the ability to swap parts to upgrade in the future.
i'd prefer not to spend over $2k, but if it's close enough i'll consider it.
pre-built bcuz i'm lazy and would rather not fuck up something by accident lol. something that i won't regret spending money on and that lasts for awhile if/when i ever decide to try a custom build later on.

On today's episode of "my journey to earn 100% achievements in Planet Zoo":
Tumblr media
(except that my pc is wonderful, it's Frontier who hates their players and the pc in the gif is actually their career mode)
Myers Sunshine Happiness Zoo on hard difficulty was either not tested at all or was made with the intend that the player will search for every single piece of scenery that's not nailed down in order to sell it (the scenery also being the exhibit animals bc they cost way too much to take care of them).
I finished that scenario by sheer determination, but by all the gods, I hate it with all my being. I had to sell every rock, every lamp, even the paths through which the guest spawn. If there was any piece not nailed down by the developers' restrictions, I found it and sold it. And bought a giraffe and an orangutan. And a lion. And somehow managed to build habitats for all of them.
I even had to place heaters throughout the zoo because the guests kept complaining that it's too cold. Because of course the cold weather is on me, not on the guests that don't want to dress for the weather. Frontier, what are you doing?
I need to do the African scenario now with Bernie (my current safe has 40-70k debt 🙄) and a Greek one with Myers. I hate both, the African even more tbh. But at least the Sunshine one is in the past now. I still have no idea how I managed to pull that off. I didn't want to restart (and frankly, I didn't know what else to do), so I winged it.
When I finish with the achievements, I'm not gonna play this game for quite a while. I kinda regret buying a couple of DLCs bc they add more career scenarios. Sure, I can just ignore them but they're also just sitting there. 😩
Anyway. I think I need a break from this game. I should pull myself together and get back to writing, lol (it's just that my mind fixated to a thing to do, the thing being 100% the achievements).

09.14.23 - It has been quite a minute..,.
Whew been awhile eh? Almost a year since I came back to the Philippines and we're adjusting well as a family. I can see us easing into getting our footing here. Mother opened up a pop up store and it's honestly nostalgic. A chunk of my childhood I can remember spending every day in a busy restaurant without a worry in the world but to get to our computer shop and play some Audition on PC! Having this small pop up store really brings all those precious times back but now I'm involved and having trouble getting through to my mother with my ideas. I wouldn't say my ideas are great either but I'm just eager to get involved. My parents have a lot of things going on now. Rice has never been so accessible for us. Father's been busy building up his piggery and chicken coop. We're living the country life now baby.
Speaking of nostalgia, I can't help but reflect on my withdrawals after smoking marijuana for almost 2 years after COVID. That was intense but I don't regret going through it. I feel more contented with life and living peacefully by taking it day by day. Whenever you think life is going too fast, it's actually not.
The systematic consequence of life in a thriving city with bustling people achieving their daily tasks and surviving yet another adventure in their lives cannot compare to the gentleness on top of the vulnerability of a provincial life. As humans we really do get easily blinded by the light especially if there are factors that would let us steer in the direction that would make our lives easy but "easy" don't mean longevity.
It's like having the same processed microwaved meal every day without tasting what the farm fresh version taste like. We get so hung up on the quickness of everything that we can't help but play catch up once we are granted that privilege to do so. That's the secret ingredient to living.
Recognizing that it is okay for now, but yearn for the real thing later.
