see the thing is, i don't mind other ships (though i don't like, actively ship them, but i respect them for existing and can enjoy them at times) as long as they stay in their era of the narrative. like there are many relationships that were important and formative and significant, esp for dean, but i don't think abt them outside of their confines in the narrative. they happened, they're past, and i appreciate them for where they exist within the narrative. but i don't think abt say cassie or lisa or benny coming back and suddenly being dean's endgame. by the end of the narrative there's one clear person in dean's life that he treats like a life partner in all the ways that matter, and that's cas. they couldn't let dean live and give him a blurry wife scenario bc it would make zero narrative sense by that point (and would've been a massive slap in the face to cas and his confession). it's why when at that one con where the topic of who dean could've ended up with came up and someone in the audience shouted "lisa" jensen, amused and affronted, went "LISA??!!?" because, absolutely nothing against her but, it would make no sense for dean at that point in the narrative. he's moved past that relationship and others. by the s15 he's been celibate for years, no longer portrayed as the "ladies man bachelor" (which was largely a front anyway). he's settled comfortably into domesticity and embraced the family he has, and in all way besides explicitly seeing them kiss cas as settled into the role of life partner / spouse / love interest. so, to make a serious non-shitpost-y post about this, this is why i am big destiel. not because i hate other ships but because, for me at least, there is no other logical conclusion by that point in the narrative. there is no one else in the role of love interest for dean, and dean has no interest in pursuing other people either. they are it for each other. and they killed dean, no doubt for other reasons too but partly because there is no other 'epilogue' of a life they could give him that would make sense without cas there too.

anyways i appreciate other ships for where they exist in the narrative and their purpose at the time. but the beauty of destiel is that it doesn't hinge on just one time or era. it stretches and spans over 12 yrs. and beyond. continuing to grow and evolve. it's forever.

Smitten: Despite the exuberant and overly romantic behavior, he finds more joy in the little things. The kinda person to watch their loved one pick lint off their clothes and thing about how incredible it is they’re on the same universe together.

Nightmare: She likes dancing, and seeing her flowy skirt swish around, and if someone were to approach and hold her as she spins without fear, she’d be the happiest ghost there is.

Smitten&Nightmare: I also headcanon that Nightmare’s organ shutting down is related to how afraid someone is of her, and so, Smitten isn’t affected at all when alone in her presence (except by her beauty!!!), that alone intrigues Nightmare, and I can see his earnest attitude quickly endearing him to her. I think Smitten would ask to take off her mask, and while he isn’t unaffected, he clings to his fortitude, and Nightmare is also actively trying not to break him. He find the beauty in what she is and then they kiss <3

TomEdd is a very slow burn, but it has always been warm. Do you remember what it’s like to have a crush on someone you thought was very cool? You become friends and that warm feeling has always been constant when you’re together. It’s soft and gradual, it’s light touches and years of smiling at each other, you start to feel like you’re home.

EddMatt is a really Fun and Funny ship for me. It’s two main characters coming together in a crossover, except one is from a slice of life show and the other is from a fantasy. It’s a very high energy relationship, it’s exciting and bursting at the seams with ideas and passion. Have you ever had someone who’s basically your favorite caffeinated drink personified? They come into the room and suddenly your deep bone tiredness goes away like it was never there, and they smile at you and you feel as though you’re never going to get tired again.

TordMatt for me is a relationship that started off on the wrong foot. Their egos don’t match and they might have said or done somethings that rubbed the other the wrong way, but part of them holds some kind of respect for the other. I always thought that Tord thought Matt was so cool for being so unapologetically himself, that he could openly like himself when Tord seemed to always hate who he was. Matt on the other hand thinks the same except that Tord seemingly doesn’t care about what other people think of him, when Matt cares a whole lot. I think they could help each other heal. They’re the relationship that talks in whispers together in the dead of night, when everyone else is asleep, and they spend their restless night together, fingers laced, looking up at the ceiling, saying things they wouldn’t in the morning.

EddTord is the bestfriends to lovers to enemies to friends and MAYBE lovers ship. I always thought that they would fit a passionate doomed romance narrative. They start out so great, it’s love and passion and laughter, running off on adventures together, hands held tight, eyes on each other at all times. Then it’s tears and screamed words, betrayal and regret, history cast aside and hands reaching out to nothing. Then it’s quiet, a lingering look, words unsaid, unsteady peace and a longing to hold again. ‘Hey, do you remember when I smiled at you for the first time?’
